00:00:00.000 A state senator from Oklahoma is in Ottawa sounding the alarm over attacks on religious
00:00:09.940 freedom in Canada. Senator Shane Jett says the number of unexplained church burnings,
00:00:16.280 arrests of pastors, and the weakening of federal protections for Christians and other religions
00:00:21.380 is disturbing. Shane Jett now, the senator from Oklahoma, joins us from Ottawa. And that is
00:00:27.620 state senator. Welcome, sir. It's good to be here. Thank you, Mark, for having me on your show.
00:00:33.100 Well, thanks for being on the show. What made you decide to come to Canada to talk to
00:00:38.420 Canadian lawmakers about what's going on in Canada as far as religious freedom goes?
00:00:44.560 Well, actually, it's a constituent request from Oklahoma, an expat family that moved from Canada
00:00:50.900 to the reddest state in the Union. Sorry, Florida, that's Oklahoma. And he's doing a
00:00:56.660 documentary about the erosions of freedoms in here in candidates called Don't Talk About That,
00:01:02.080 which is very appropriate as we're visiting with people here that feel like they can't speak freely
00:01:06.300 about their faith, can't speak freely to the government about their redress of grievance
00:01:10.360 issues. And so it initially started when I shared information with a conservative group there in
00:01:16.580 Oklahoma about the efforts we're doing down in Brazil to support the Bolsonaro family and support
00:01:21.060 the Christian conservatives down there. And I had sent an open letter to the Supreme Court that's
00:01:25.460 basically become a dictator, a judicial dictatorship, and it made national news. And so
00:01:32.140 Brent Larson is shooting a film and he said, can I interview you for my documentary
00:01:38.640 to highlight some of the same issues that are happening north of the border? And so came to
00:01:43.940 my Senate office there in Oklahoma City. We shot it. And then we started talking about what else
00:01:47.820 can we do to help our neighbors to the north that we've enjoyed such a wonderful relationship
00:01:51.760 that have some of the same Christian underpinnings that America, the United States has.
00:01:56.340 They have some of the same quotes from the Bible, the same biblical doctrine that's in their
00:02:02.680 mottos, the dominion that's pulled straight from Psalms. And so he said, will you write a letter?
00:02:10.000 And I said, yes, I will. And then a few months later, he says, will you come to Ottawa and read
00:02:14.820 your letter? And I said, yes, I will. So here we are. Yeah, I mean, we have laws in place,
00:02:20.760 which suggests that there is language in the Bible that is hateful.
00:02:27.080 And so obviously this is going to raise alarm bells amongst Christians,
00:02:30.960 and I would think in the United States as well.
00:02:34.780 I don't know how plugged you in you are into what's happening in D.C.,
00:02:38.780 but, I mean, is that something that would be on the radar screen of the government,
00:02:42.680 of the Trump administration?
00:02:44.940 Well, absolutely, and I was in communications with my contacts at the White House
00:02:49.440 letting them know that we're going to be here because of some serious concerns about freedom
00:02:55.360 of speech and whether or not they would curtail my own freedom to speak here freely about the 0.88
00:03:00.480 issues that they're clearly suppressing their own Christian community. And not just the Christian 0.97
00:03:04.080 community, but the Jewish community here as well are reaching out to conservative Christians saying,
00:03:09.940 we need your support. And in fact, I'm a part of the National Association of Christian Lawmakers
00:03:15.640 who recently sent a letter to Donald Trump when they saw some of the anti-Semitism and the attacks
00:03:21.560 on Jews because of their faith here in Canada, urged the president to accelerate any asylum
00:03:28.160 seekers for the Jewish community here in Canada that feel unsafe. And so I supported that letter. 1.00
00:03:34.960 I'm a member of that organization. And Donald Trump responded immediately. And as soon as Donald
00:03:39.800 Trump responded, so did the governor of the state of Oklahoma, Kevin Stitt, issued a statement that
00:03:45.180 if it's accelerated by the State Department and immigration services, we would welcome
00:03:51.620 those expat communities into the state of Oklahoma. So that's some of the things that's
00:03:55.880 going on. And the conversation we had last night at the Bikers Church, and you may remember the
00:04:00.360 Bikers Church was the church that provided support, food, and help for the trucker freedom
00:04:06.360 rally that was happening. They are saying we need those same passport and immigration support
00:04:14.980 for conservative Christians who are also under attack here in Canada.
00:04:20.080 Have you had much contact at all with members of the Kearney government?
00:04:24.560 Have they given you any indication that they're listening?
00:04:27.680 So the Kearney government, no, we have not.
00:04:30.400 However, there are solid Christians here in the parliament,
00:04:34.980 and they are in the minority party right now,
00:04:37.520 and that have met with us, we've talked to them.
00:04:40.580 And, of course, the suppression is obvious because the concern is they can be targeted and singled out and punished for meeting with me.
00:04:50.740 And so we're meeting with them, met just off the floor of Parliament yesterday.
00:04:55.600 We could see the Parliament in action.
00:04:58.360 We were in the lobby, and one of the members said, can we pray with you, Senator Jett?
00:05:02.860 So my wife and I were right there.
00:05:04.720 We were here with a billboard, Chris,
00:05:06.800 who has been advocating against the abuse of children,
00:05:10.620 transgender all over the world.
00:05:12.160 He's a Canadian citizen.
00:05:13.200 He was with us.
00:05:13.760 And we just stood in a circle,
00:05:15.420 three of us with three or four congressmen
00:05:18.900 from the Canadian parliament.
00:05:21.940 They're called MPs and just prayed over us.
00:05:25.040 And then we prayed over them for God to protect them.
00:05:27.520 But there is a clear camaraderie
00:05:29.760 with the conservative Christians here in Canada
00:05:33.340 that share the same views
00:05:34.640 as Christian conservatives in Oklahoma,
00:05:37.000 same views of Christian conservatives
00:05:38.620 down in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
00:05:40.740 And there's only two sides,
00:05:42.580 either you are for freedom
00:05:43.940 that comes through Christ Jesus
00:05:45.200 and the teachings of Christian principles
00:05:47.780 that underpins Western civilization,
00:05:49.880 or you're part of the Marxist cabal
00:05:51.520 that's trying to command and control the economy
00:05:54.800 through command economy or through legislative edict,
00:05:59.100 whether it's judicial or from parliament or what we see in C9, which is effectively removing the
00:06:05.880 religious protection for pastors to preach the gospel and effectively making Romans chapter one
00:06:11.620 and several scriptures in Genesis effectively illegal to even be able to state Christian
00:06:19.540 principles from behind the pulpit or out in public. Did you get any sense from your communications
00:06:25.100 with the Trump administration that America would open its doors to Canadians making refugee claims
00:06:31.980 based on religious intolerance and even attacks, anti-Semitism, anti-Christian behavior, that kind
00:06:39.660 of thing. Yes. So we were actually in Israel when we heard the response back from the Trump
00:06:45.340 administration, who was very favorable and responded openly to the letter from the National
00:06:50.920 Association of Christian Lawmakers with Senator Jason Raypert out of Arkansas put that together.
00:06:57.320 So yes, they are sensitive. They are watching what's happening in Canada. There's been over
00:07:01.920 a hundred church burnings here in Canada. So it's not just the Jewish community. It's basically
00:07:06.700 anyone who has the audacity or the courage to stand against the Marxist ideology and this
00:07:12.100 repressive regime, trying to control the narrative, trying to control the people. And as we saw with
00:07:16.960 the truckers, Canadians are not going to stand for it. We could talk a little bit about Brazil
00:07:23.020 since you've brought it up a couple of times. What happened with the election, I think, is going to
00:07:27.080 make a lot of people happy, people who believe in freedom. Absolutely. Are you on the group of
00:07:34.180 people who believes that cutting off USAID funds to these NGOs may have contributed not only to
00:07:40.720 what happened in Brazil, but what's happened to a number of other countries? Absolutely. Without a
00:07:46.420 doubt. It is my firm belief that USAID inclusion with people in the intelligence community in the
00:07:53.020 deep state undermined and stole the election from the Brazilian people. It is without a doubt,
00:07:59.900 and no one in Brazil doubts that as well. And it's fun to see what the Marxists are incapable
00:08:04.540 of doing when they don't have U.S. tax dollars to fund it. I understand you represent a Cherokee 1.00
00:08:10.440 area. Are you Cherokee yourself? Yes, I am Cherokee. My mother is Cherokee. So I'm actually
00:08:17.900 founded the Native American Caucus when I was a House member about 20 years ago. And so we're a
00:08:24.700 conservative group of civilized Indians here. And we've reached out also to the First Nations here
00:08:30.380 as well, and we would like to connect with them. I don't know how much you've heard about some of
00:08:35.100 the judicial rulings we've had up here, land claims by various Indian groups, Native Indian
00:08:42.620 groups, Indigenous groups. And they've been successful in getting rulings that have prompted
00:08:47.560 our government, particularly the one in British Columbia, to talk about handing over huge tracts 0.81
00:08:52.600 of land, a property the size of Portugal, over to Native Indian groups. There's been other rulings
00:08:58.560 that have awarded land, basically belonging, they thought belonged to people who had purchased
00:09:04.540 homes to these native Indian groups. Do you have any thoughts about that, given your own background?
00:09:10.100 I absolutely do. So remember, I'm from Oklahoma and we have the McGirt case, which is basically
00:09:14.700 a lawsuit designed to throw one of the red estates of the union into chaos and throw us into the 0.81
00:09:20.320 courts, challenging private property ownership. And anytime you see private property ownership
00:09:25.280 being challenged, then you follow the ideological strings all the way back to Marxism. The same
00:09:29.560 thing is happening here is they're leveraging indigenous people, some legitimate concerns
00:09:35.320 about mistreatment in the past. They're trying to use critical theory to pivot it as a direct
00:09:41.100 assault against private property ownership and pit indigenous groups or any minority groups against
00:09:46.240 whatever the oppressor and the oppressed is. So I'm all about having respectful dialogues
00:09:51.760 based on Christian principles about how to respect image bearers of God, whether indigenous people
00:09:58.300 or immigrants from Europe that came here looking for religious freedom. I'm for those open
00:10:03.380 dialogues predicated on mutual respect. But I resist this narrative. Stolen land was basically
00:10:12.400 concocted by Marxist ideologues as assault against private property ownership, which is assault
00:10:18.740 directly against liberty and trying to monopolize and manipulate the native communities with the
00:10:24.540 hope of getting some land that they feel like they have claims to, and to weaponize them into
00:10:29.600 a Marxist wedge issue. And so my counsel to our fellow Native Americans with deepest respect
00:10:36.520 is do not allow the Native, do not allow the Marxists to commandeer our Native history as a
00:10:44.000 weapon against our neighbors. Senator Chet, thank you so much for coming on the show. I know you
00:10:49.180 have to run. We really appreciate it. Thank you, Mark. I appreciate the work you're doing.
00:10:53.400 Thank you.
