There's no use denying it, and there's no point delaying the inevitable.
00:00:08.000
COVID-19 rules are collapsing all across Canada.
00:00:12.000
We've got Saskatchewan pretty much doing away with everything.
00:00:17.000
We've got eastern provinces getting rid of a whole bunch of rules.
00:00:20.000
They were some of the provinces that had the tightest lockdowns previously.
00:00:24.000
And yet what's kind of interesting though is my home province of Ontario,
00:00:32.000
They have no plans to do away with the vaccine passport and the mask mandate.
00:00:40.000
We've got people all across the country saying,
00:00:44.000
We've got public opinion polling showing that the majority of people say,
00:00:48.000
Just let people make their own personal choices
00:00:51.000
if they feel they need to take COVID precautions.
00:00:53.000
We've got chief medical officers all across the country,
00:01:02.000
So how can it possibly be that Ontario has no plans to do away with some of these rules
00:01:07.000
when other provinces have gotten rid of all of them entirely pretty much?
00:01:12.000
Well, originally Ontario had said they would end the vaccine passport system on January 17th
00:01:17.000
and they would get rid of the mask mandate on March 28th.
00:01:23.000
They plunged Ontario into lockdown yet again in January.
00:01:27.000
And just to be clear, you don't need to check the timestamp here.
00:01:41.000
A lockdown that a lot of people certainly thought was unjustified.
00:01:47.000
More and more people have been saying as the months have gone by.
00:01:51.000
So what are the plans now if January and March were the times to get rid of the passport and the mask mandate?
00:01:56.000
Well, now the plans are, well, they have no plans.
00:02:04.000
They talk about the gradual and cautious reopening of Ontario.
00:02:08.000
They use those words so often, so many times in their documents.
00:02:12.000
And they talk about an easing of different capacity limits and indoor gatherings.
00:02:19.000
They say that's going to be the sort of final reopening announcement, March 14th.
00:02:25.000
It keeps in place the vaccine passport system and the mask mandate forever.
00:02:31.000
Well, I don't know about forever, but there's no indication when they're lifting it.
00:02:34.000
Christine Elliott was actually asked about this at a press conference.
00:02:38.000
And she said, yeah, there's no plan to lift the mask mandate or the vaccine passport system.
00:02:43.000
Now, Brian Lilly did press Christine Elliott on and she said, okay, we're not planning to keep these things in forever.
00:02:48.000
And I guess we can lift it sooner if necessary.
00:02:55.000
Did they not look around and see what's happening in the world?
00:03:03.000
Jurisdictions everywhere are lifting these things.
00:03:05.000
And yet Ontario stubbornly digging in their heels and saying, we're not going to budge.
00:03:11.000
Well, I don't think folks are going to like that very much.
00:03:13.000
I think you're going to see a lot of pushback on all of that.
00:03:15.000
And I have no insider knowledge to back this, but I anticipate things are going to move sooner.
00:03:21.000
And Christine Elliott and Doug Ford are maybe previously saying they're going to move.
