00:00:00.000 Well, speaking of difficult times, this Prime Minister's policies have given us a 32% increase in violent crime,
00:00:07.800 a 90% increase in gang crime.
00:00:11.360 Murder rates now rising again this year, year after year.
00:00:15.640 And what's his solution?
00:00:17.120 To ban Grandpa Joe's hunting rifle.
00:00:21.280 In fact, he wants to ban hundreds of thousands of hunting rifles and spend hundreds of millions of dollars doing it.
00:00:27.780 Why won't he leave hunters alone and go after the real criminals?
00:00:30.820 The Right Honourable Prime Minister.
00:00:35.700 Mr. Speaker, we've been very clear that we are not targeting law-abiding hunters and fishers.
00:00:42.440 We're not going after shotguns or rifles.
00:00:45.520 We have banned military-style assault weapons.
00:00:49.320 And unfortunately, Conservative politicians continue to mislead Canadians,
00:00:54.720 to base things on fear, and to be focused on making assault weapons legal again in this country.
00:01:02.480 Mr. Speaker, we will continue to take the necessary measures to keep Canadians safe
00:01:07.540 while respecting the rights of law-abiding Canadians.
00:01:10.960 That's what Canadians expect.
00:01:12.600 That's what we've been doing.
00:01:14.060 The Right Honourable Leader of the Opposition.
00:01:15.560 Well, Mr. Speaker, I get my information from the amendment that his government tabled in the committee.
00:01:23.100 And I have it right here.
00:01:24.820 A list of the firearms that he wants to ban includes the Webley and Scott wild fowl gun.
00:01:34.060 Fowl as in wild turkeys and wild ducks.
00:01:37.480 That's right in the list that his government put forward of guns he wants to ban.
00:01:43.360 Mr. Speaker, why is he more concerned with protecting wild turkeys from hunters
00:01:48.640 than he is concerned about protecting Canadians from criminals?
00:01:53.420 The Right Honourable Prime Minister.
00:01:58.380 Mr. Speaker, we see once again that the Conservative Party is deep in the pockets of the American gun love.
00:02:06.680 The reality is, Canadians know that we can and will continue to respect law-abiding hunts.
00:02:14.300 What a cloud.
00:02:16.560 Mr. Speaker, we're in the pocket of all this information.
00:02:21.620 It should be a shame.
00:02:24.780 So you have to breathe out for an interference.
00:02:29.060 What do you think, guys?
00:02:30.780 We're in the pocket of the third one.
00:02:32.420 We're in the pocket of the third one.
00:02:36.680 I'm looking to the whips for some support, and I think I got some.
00:02:43.260 Thank you.
00:02:44.840 The Right Honourable Prime Minister, maybe start from the beginning so we can hear the answer.
00:02:49.540 Mr. Speaker, once again, we see the extent to which the Conservative Party of Canada is in the pocket of the gun lobby.
00:02:55.680 We will continue to move forward in responsible ways, while respecting the choices of law-abiding hunters and fishers and people who use guns responsibly to be able to continue with their rifles and shotguns,
00:03:10.540 while at the same time we prevent those military-style assault weapons that were designed to kill the largest number of people in the shortest amount of time from being used in this country.
00:03:22.940 The Conservatives continue to try and bring those back.
00:03:25.940 We will stand strongly on better gun control.
00:03:28.300 The Honourable Leader of the Opposition.
00:03:30.240 Mr. Speaker, it's right on page 294 of his proposed amendments that he wants to ban the Webley and Scott wild fowl gun.
00:03:39.920 Again, this is a firearm specifically designed to go after turkeys and ducks.
00:03:45.220 These are tools for farmers and hunters, many of whom are First Nations who rely on country food in order to feed themselves, but he wants to ban them and turn those people into criminals.
00:03:57.860 I'm taking my information directly from these amendments.
00:04:01.960 Why won't he stand up and admit that he wants to ban hunting rifles and shotguns rather than going after the real criminals?
00:04:07.980 Mr. Speaker, again, the Conservatives do a good job of talking about their supposed tough-on-crime agenda,
00:04:21.200 and that single-minded approach they have is unfortunately wrong.
00:04:26.120 As we've seen, supposedly tough-on-crime legislation that keeps getting struck down by the courts doesn't do a thing to keep our communities safer.
00:04:35.020 That's why we're focused on smart legislation to ensure that Canadians are projected and making sure that our communities are safer.
00:04:44.860 We're going to continue to move forward on responsible gun control while respecting the rights of law-abiding hunters and farmers.
