00:00:00.400 uh why would uh xi jinping do this i mean it's like a self-inflicted wound right i mean 0.91
00:00:05.760 surely he knows what is happening in the rest of the world everybody else is moving on economic
00:00:10.320 activity is uh picking up um um and uh whereas in china people are being locked down in factories
00:00:17.520 this uh this there are protests now um what is what's he thinking what is the what is the
00:00:24.960 strategy here well i think ultimately for him it's about political power and control so since the
00:00:32.240 very beginning of the pandemic they've been telling their people because everything in china is 1.00
00:00:36.160 controlled by the party right so they've been telling the people like oh this virus is like
00:00:41.120 the most dangerous thing and there's almost a stigma around it so if you get the virus right
00:00:46.000 you're moved to these quarantine camps that they build and anyone in close contact to you even
00:00:52.160 though they don't have symptoms they don't have the virus they're also put there so it's all about
00:00:56.240 like this fear in the people right and then they've been told since the pandemic started like look at 0.95
00:01:02.240 what the western countries or other countries are doing they're really dumb they're getting it wrong
00:01:06.880 we're doing it right and we have so few cases because like from our own reporting they're not 0.94
00:01:12.320 revealing the true number there's no way it's of course thousand right it's like but they're telling
00:01:17.040 their people that right and then they point to the numbers and like america for instance they're like
00:01:21.440 look you know over like half a million like all these a million you know all these cases what a
00:01:26.560 disaster look at how great we're doing but two years later can they suddenly tell their people 0.90
00:01:32.320 oh sorry we were wrong right it's like they're not gonna admit that but within it it's like are you
00:01:38.560 gonna see maybe other sectors stepping forward when then without being silenced right you did have the
00:01:45.440 you know medical journalists or just independent journalists in the beginning of the pandemic trying to
00:01:51.120 sound the alarms and then they were you know accused of spreading rumors the regime's favorite
00:01:55.360 line like spreading rumors and get sentenced and then mysteriously die um and so it's it's ultimately
00:02:03.360 about power and control and that's like the whole thing with the communist party they're like you know
00:02:08.560 oh communism it's for the people we care about the people but it really isn't but the issue is there's
00:02:14.480 kind of like two layers of everything so it's like you know on the front end what they tell the outside
00:02:20.240 world you know oh we so care about the people so then you have um westerners like henry kissinger or
00:02:25.840 like elon elon musk too or uh canadians prime minister trudeau being like wow you know these communist
00:02:31.680 leaders they really do just care about the people but then if you were actually to go to china and see
00:02:37.520 what's happening not like the acts that they show the outside people if you actually see how the people
00:02:43.680 are living yeah they're being treated absolutely horribly so there's that disconnect and then like
00:02:49.920 two and then like hidden layers and the two levels of speech and everything so but with the the pandemic
00:02:56.640 and the zero covet it's ultimately about control and then it's like he's he's you know dug his stake on
00:03:03.040 this hill he he just can't suddenly go back like that was one of his biggest things and then in the
00:03:08.720 20th party congress speech he reiterated like oh we're gonna wipe out covid like you can't just
00:03:13.760 suddenly be like oh sorry guys i was wrong we're gonna follow america and so you know it's like
00:03:21.280 he's put his all of his eggs in that basket yeah follow the zero covet so yeah extraordinary
00:03:33.040 so
00:03:38.720 so
00:03:40.720 so
00:03:42.720 so
00:03:44.720 so
00:03:46.720 so
00:03:50.720 so
00:03:52.720 so
00:03:54.720 so
