00:00:00.000 Right now Canada is having a debate about a series of second lockdowns facing us in the fall after
00:00:10.260 politicians are threatening to do just that. Justin Trudeau saying, watch out, we could go
00:00:15.500 back to the way we were in the spring. Doug Ford rather disappointingly threatening similar things
00:00:20.640 as well. This after BC was pushing the envelope and realized banquet halls, large gatherings like
00:00:26.240 weddings, nightclubs, we're gonna have to roll back on all of that. Well what do you think? Should we be
00:00:31.560 talking about a second lockdown? I think we need to pause and and take a whole different approach
00:00:37.740 philosophically to how we're talking about the virus right now. There's a lot of jokes online.
00:00:42.860 People say, oh how many weeks are we in the two weeks to flatten the curve thing? The idea that we
00:00:48.100 go into hyper lockdown for just two weeks or four weeks or six weeks even and get it out of our system
00:00:53.260 and then return to some degree of normal as some people originally thought would be the case. Well
00:00:57.780 that's clearly not what's happening anymore but is it right to just go back into the same sort of
00:01:02.940 lockdown? I was speaking to an ER doctor in Toronto recently who he had been on the front lines dealing
00:01:07.960 with SARS back in the day and he's now dealing with coronavirus and as he was talking about the
00:01:12.440 vaccine he discussed something which other medical experts have been saying that the vaccine when
00:01:17.220 developed might not be a type of vaccine that fully eradicates coronavirus in the way that you know
00:01:22.500 the kids get the measles mumps rubella shot and you get that when you're a kid and then pretty much
00:01:26.880 we more or less have eradicated those illnesses. No we might find with coronavirus this doctor among
00:01:31.860 others was saying to me we may find it's kind of like the flu shot situation where you know you have
00:01:37.320 to get this shot once a year once every two years and we continually have to deal with this virus
00:01:42.380 for quite a number of years. It's a very kind of frightening thing when you look at the prospects
00:01:47.760 of managing society the way we are now but it does help us see things differently that really what it
00:01:53.400 comes down to is learning to live with coronavirus. Learning to adjust our lives, to adjust our
00:01:59.960 expectations, our hand washing, our hygiene protocols and so forth. Kind of a scary thing to talk about it in
00:02:06.780 that regard but at least acknowledging that that we may soon need to be discussing how to live with
00:02:12.740 coronavirus for the long term even with some sort of vaccine available means okay then we have to sort
00:02:19.620 of segue out of talking about these blunt lockdowns and look at going in different directions. One that
00:02:25.840 allow us to live our lives more, live our lives more freely and see that we undertake initiatives to
00:02:31.940 protect high-risk groups to make sure that they are tragically not dying of coronavirus like we saw
00:02:37.460 earlier on in the long-term care facilities. So just a note there on on a way we can sort of temper all of this
00:02:44.660 enthusiasm that some people seem to have for these second lockdowns because can we all agree that nobody
00:02:50.340 really wants to see that come to pass?
