00:00:00.000 I think it's safe to say that things aren't looking very good.
00:00:27.380 It feels as though we're collectively staring down the barrel of World War III, and very
00:00:32.320 few people are doing anything to stop it from happening.
00:00:34.820 When you mix that in with a decades-long program of mass migration into Canada, extreme financial
00:00:40.040 hardship being faced by Canadians across the country, and a more polarized and tribal
00:00:44.880 nation divided along ethnic and religious lines without a unifying Canadian culture
00:00:49.840 for us all to embrace, we are looking at what one might describe as a powder keg.
00:00:54.900 For two nights in a row, massive pro-Palestine demonstrations have taken place outside the
00:00:59.980 Israel Consulate in downtown Toronto, where very emotional people accuse Israel of being
00:01:05.620 murderers and of carrying out a genocide against Palestinians.
00:01:08.960 Not only that, these people at the pro-Palestine demonstrations are very angry at Justin Trudeau
00:01:14.960 and the Canadian government.
00:01:16.540 They accuse Justin Trudeau of having the blood of innocent Palestinians on his hands.
00:01:21.940 Just as we're seeing all over the world, large crowds of mostly immigrant Arabs are protesting
00:01:27.860 in the streets after a bombing at a hospital in Gaza, which they blame Israel for.
00:01:33.020 Israel denies all involvement and blames a misfired rocket fired from inside Gaza.
00:01:38.700 But here's the situation in Canada.
00:01:40.760 People in this country are very angry.
00:01:44.000 They're very upset.
00:01:45.380 Not just at a foreign country on the other side of the world, but this country, Canada.
00:01:49.860 They believe Canada is playing a role in the murder of their people in their home countries.
00:01:55.200 This is a bad situation.
00:01:56.900 And after being on the ground covering these protests for the past two days, although things
00:02:00.700 remain peaceful now, I am convinced that they are only going to get worse.
00:02:04.920 But on this episode of Ratioed, we spoke to the pro-Palestine protesters to get their side
00:02:10.280 of the story.
00:02:11.080 And we want you to hear what they have to say.
00:02:14.280 So drop a like in the video.
00:02:15.280 Help us out with subscribing to the True North YouTube channel.
00:02:17.400 Stick around for the Ratio of the Week.
00:02:19.500 And the common question for the episode is this.
00:02:22.520 Should the Canadian government take a harsher stance toward the pro-Palestine protests happening
00:02:28.660 across the country?
00:02:29.520 Let me know in the comments and let's get into it.
00:02:31.680 Didn't Justin Trudeau relentlessly remind us that diversity is our strength as he imported 0.90
00:02:36.940 millions of people into this country?
00:02:38.660 In Canada, diversity is our greatest strength.
00:02:41.900 Canadians get that, that diversity is and must be a source of strength.
00:02:47.620 Canadians understand that diversity is our strength.
00:02:51.460 Well, it looks as though this diversity might not be exactly what Trudeau was talking about
00:02:55.580 when he told us all it was going to be a strength for Canada.
00:02:58.800 Justin Trudeau, your hands are red!
00:03:01.200 Justin Trudeau, your hands are red!
00:03:03.400 And just days after the federal government decided to ban prayers at official Remembrance
00:03:07.860 Day ceremonies, prayers for Canadians who gave up their lives for this country to defend
00:03:13.240 the freedoms we have in this country, we saw mass Islamic prayers happening along Bloor
00:03:18.980 Street, which was shut down for a protest during rush hour.
00:03:22.520 Of course, this is totally acceptable, but praying at a Remembrance Day ceremony for Canadians
00:03:27.520 who lost their lives, that of course, doesn't fit with the multicultural vision presented
00:03:33.240 to us by our liberal government.
00:03:35.440 For the second night in a row, large pro-Palestine demonstrations have taken over the Bloor-Young
00:03:40.220 intersection in downtown Toronto, right outside the Israel Consulate.
00:03:43.900 This intersection is one of the busiest in the city and is likely going to be shut down
00:03:48.500 for the next few days during rush hour as these demonstrations continue.
00:03:53.100 It should be noted that these protests, despite requiring a very heavy police presence of riot
00:03:58.740 police, tactical units, and mounted police, things have remained very peaceful.
00:04:04.860 That being said, after spending time on the ground and talking to these people, there are
00:04:08.880 quite a few things that stand out to me.
00:04:10.700 For one, there are no Canadian flags anywhere.
00:04:13.820 That's because even if we're being charitable to these pro-Palestine protesters, they don't
00:04:18.280 seem to like this country very much.
00:04:20.120 In fact, they accuse Canada and our politicians of being behind the murder of their people.
00:04:26.080 Canada, your hands are red!
00:04:28.220 Canada, your hands are red!
00:04:30.300 And whenever you feel about the protests happening in Canada, or the conflict happening
00:04:34.400 right now between Israel and Hamas, what these protesters are expecting of Justin Trudeau 0.96
00:04:38.640 is quite frankly ridiculous.
00:04:40.140 Trudeau has already condemned what happened at the Gaza Hospital as being unacceptable and saying 0.92
00:04:45.260 that humanitarian law must be followed.
00:04:48.280 The news coming out of Gaza is horrific and absolutely unacceptable.
00:04:55.500 International humanitarian and international law needs to be respected in this and in all
00:05:02.540 cases.
00:05:03.120 There are rules around wars.
00:05:04.780 But these protesters not only want Trudeau to condemn Israel for what they're doing to
00:05:09.140 Gazan civilians, they want Trudeau to unequivocally stand on the side of Palestine.
00:05:13.620 A side which refuses to condemn a listed terrorist organization in Canada, Hamas, which also happens
00:05:19.060 to be run in Gaza since 2006.
00:05:21.600 In fact, the people protesting in Toronto, as you will soon hear, believe that Hamas bears
00:05:26.460 no responsibility for what's happening to Gazan civilians inside Gaza right now.
00:05:32.100 Also, at several points throughout our coverage last night, we were confronted by people who
00:05:36.760 told us that we had to get lost to leave and that we are far-right media trying to agitate
00:05:41.600 the crowd.
00:05:42.500 As you will see from our interviews, that was not at all the case.
00:05:45.360 At one point, pro-Palestine protesters defended us as a very angry person confronting my cameraman
00:05:51.040 and I, just for asking people fair questions.
00:05:54.320 I know who you are.
00:05:56.560 I know who you are.
00:05:57.720 You're an agitator.
00:05:58.720 Undoubtedly, there is a level of intimidation that these protesters try to employ when a journalist
00:06:04.460 tries to explain what's happening on the ground at these protests.
00:06:07.700 As soon as you start talking to the camera or interviewing someone, a large crowd of protesters
00:06:12.500 will encircle you and listen to your every word.
00:06:15.460 And if you say something that they don't like, they will tell you.
00:06:18.500 I have covered many protests and that tactic is not something I've seen employed anywhere
00:06:23.820 else.
00:06:24.440 Again, whatever you think about this conflict or whatever side you're on, there are things
00:06:27.800 we know to be true.
00:06:29.000 Thousands of civilians, whether they are Jewish, whether they are Muslim, whether they are Palestinian
00:06:33.560 or they're Israeli, are dead. 0.65
00:06:35.700 It's terrible.
00:06:36.640 It's horrible.
00:06:37.520 And nobody should be cheering on the killing of innocent civilians or justifying it in any
00:06:43.120 way.
00:06:43.420 One civilian casualty is not better or worse than another civilian casualty just because
00:06:49.420 of the country that they come from.
00:06:51.000 War is hell and everyone should be able to pray for peace without being accused of supporting
00:06:56.640 one side or the other.
00:06:57.880 And as you'll see from the people protesting in the streets, that sentiment, despite whatever
00:07:02.220 else is going on, is the overwhelming sentiment that they don't want civilians to die.
00:07:07.280 Here's what the pro-Palestine protesters have to say about what's going on in their own
00:07:11.800 words.
00:07:12.440 What brings you guys out here today?
00:07:14.540 Today we're out here and we're preaching for the genocide of our people, our people that 1.00
00:07:20.120 have been under oppression for the last 75 years, our people who have had no freedom and
00:07:26.240 no justice, and our people that are crying and screaming for our help and yet no one wants
00:07:31.280 to listen.
00:07:31.740 To stop the genocide, to stop the killing, to stop the hate, to stop the violence, that's
00:07:37.080 what brings us here because it's not only my cause, it's not the Palestinian cause, it's
00:07:41.000 not the Arab cause, it's the humanitarian cause.
00:07:43.180 We want the killing, we want the hate, we want the violence to stop on all sides, on all parties.
00:07:47.020 We don't want anybody to die. 0.98
00:07:48.540 No more civilians dying, no more Palestinians dying, no more Israelis, no more Jews, no more 1.00
00:07:52.600 Muslims, no one, no more dying. 0.99
00:07:54.240 Just seize the fire, stop. 0.99
00:07:55.720 All wars can get accomplished on tables, not by killing.
00:07:59.020 We are here just to tell the whole world that we will not go down, we are standing for
00:08:05.280 our rights, we are spreading the truth about what's going on in Gaza.
00:08:10.260 I'm here today to protest for human rights for the Palestinian children and mothers, and
00:08:16.800 to be honest, for humanity, for the Muslims, the Jews, and the Christians who are being
00:08:21.720 killed in Palestine.
00:08:23.080 Obviously, you believe that the response from the Israel government has been disproportionate
00:08:29.260 toward Gaza.
00:08:30.920 In your opinion, I know it's a tough position to be put in, but in your opinion, what would
00:08:34.540 a proportionate response look like for Israel for what happened 11 days ago?
00:08:40.800 Are we talking about proportional with math and calculations?
00:08:44.180 Because if we're talking about proportional, then we're never going to stop killing each 0.86
00:08:48.720 other.
00:08:49.020 We've heard people here chant that Justin Trudeau has blood on his hands, and a lot of people
00:08:53.720 obviously hold the Canadian government responsible.
00:08:56.500 We've also seen Trudeau say that the bombing at the hospital was unacceptable, and everybody
00:09:02.020 has to follow international humanitarian law.
00:09:04.040 So, in particular, what would you guys like to see the Canadian government do?
00:09:06.760 At the end of the day, it's not just the Canadian government.
00:09:10.600 It's the entire Western government, whether it be Canada or the States.
00:09:17.040 We sit as people, and we pay our taxes, and we fight for the rights of the Ukrainians.
00:09:23.980 We fought for the rights in the Holocaust, and this is Holocaust once more, and no one wants 0.97
00:09:30.360 to say anything.
00:09:31.020 Justin Trudeau was admiring the Israeli government, the IDF, for what they did in the first three
00:09:39.120 days, but once they bomb a hospital, that's when he wants to come on our side.
00:09:44.600 He can't keep switching sides.
00:09:46.880 He's saying unacceptable, but in the meantime, they are standing 100% with Israel.
00:09:52.740 Do you see the picture?
00:09:54.040 So, is that acceptable for you or for anybody to stand to pick and choose, and to say this
00:10:00.460 is unacceptable, but we are standing beside Israel, and Israel has the right to defend
00:10:05.340 their existing? 0.99
00:10:06.860 That's bulls**t. 0.98
00:10:07.780 I want him to come out and take Israel accountable for their actions. 0.99
00:10:12.740 Say anything that's remotely related to Israel committing this genocide that we've all seen. 0.69
00:10:18.480 The entire world is seeing what they're doing.
00:10:20.100 And Trudeau hasn't said one thing at all, condemning Israel's actions for the past 75 years.
00:10:26.560 There are no winners in war.
00:10:28.640 That's why Canada, that's why Justin Trudeau has blood on their hands.
00:10:32.120 I came here 21 years ago, and this country gave my family an opportunity.
00:10:36.800 It gave me an education.
00:10:38.520 It gave me a home, a safe home, where my people weren't getting killed.
00:10:42.620 And now, they're feeding the terrorists.
00:10:46.120 They're sending, they're not taking care of our own people here on land. 0.99
00:10:49.280 They're not taking care of our schools.
00:10:51.020 They're not taking care of our hospitals. 0.84
00:10:52.700 And I'm talking way before COVID.
00:10:55.360 Way, way, way before COVID.
00:10:57.480 Our homeless people here, people are on drugs.
00:11:00.560 They have no places to go.
00:11:02.660 Trudeau must go.
00:11:04.000 Biden must go.
00:11:05.100 Doug Ford must go. 1.00
00:11:06.080 Honestly, all the politicians in the running, they're all trash. 0.99
00:11:08.740 Do you think Hamas has to take any responsibility for what's happened to Palestinians over the past week? 0.99
00:11:17.820 Well, without any sort of resistance, you can pretty much say that Palestine will be wiped out. 0.51
00:11:22.840 Ever since 1948, we've been resisting.
00:11:24.640 We've been fighting for our lands, fighting for change.
00:11:26.680 In Palestine and other countries as well, like Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, other countries, we've all been protesting.
00:11:32.480 We've all been wanting our governments to take, like, steps to change the situation of the Palestinians.
00:11:37.660 Do you think both sides have a right to defend themselves?
00:11:40.420 No.
00:11:41.460 We are under occupation.
00:11:44.320 They are the occupied.
00:11:45.540 They are the one who's controlling the sea, controlling the food, controlling the land.
00:11:50.240 How you can equal between somebody who put them in a prison and the prisoner?
00:11:54.800 Are there an equal equation here?
00:11:57.900 By itself, it's injustice.
00:12:00.180 I am the one who are under fire.
00:12:02.700 Who am I the one who are under occupation since 1948?
00:12:07.120 Is that a clear picture for you?
00:12:10.440 At the end of the day, ever since 9-11, any single Arab that wants to fight for the freedom of their people is labeled as a terrorist.
00:12:20.080 Any single Arab that wants to speak the truth of their people is justified as a terrorist. 1.00
00:12:25.540 We are not terrorists.
00:12:27.600 If a white person or any other person came down here to speak for the freedom of their people, this would be labeled as a protest.
00:12:35.740 This would be labeled as a peaceful thing.
00:12:37.760 But when it comes to Arabs, this is terrorism?
00:12:40.980 We're sitting here peacefully.
00:12:42.900 In Islam, the murder of innocent people is wrong. 1.00
00:12:46.140 Bombing hospitals. 0.76
00:12:47.260 Bombing hospitals is wrong.
00:12:48.980 We don't do that.
00:12:49.820 And to say Gaza and Hamas were the ones that did it is completely incorrect.
00:12:53.520 We sit here and we want to justify it.
00:12:57.180 And the Western media portrays us as the terrorists.
00:13:00.920 They've been terrorists for years.
00:13:03.380 They are the terrorists.
00:13:05.000 They killed people in Afghanistan and in Syria and in Libya and in many other Middle Eastern countries and justified it off of 9-11. 0.87
00:13:15.260 We are not terrorists.
00:13:17.380 We will never be terrorists.
00:13:18.980 Thank you very much.
00:13:20.480 Thank you.
00:13:22.640 Although things remain peaceful for now, I wouldn't expect that to continue.
00:13:29.420 Things in Israel look like they're only going to get worse as a ground offensive seems imminent.
00:13:35.240 The anger at Israel and directed at the Canadian government is only going to increase as more civilians die, which of course seems horribly inevitable.
00:13:44.380 And we've already seen what happens at these protests in other parts of the world.
00:13:48.460 In Berlin, 65 police were injured at a pro-Palestine protest as organizers called to burn everything.
00:13:56.160 We've already seen leaders in other parts of the world called to ban pro-Palestine protests from happening.
00:14:02.040 And I would assume that politicians in Canada will soon start doing the same thing.
00:14:06.040 It also should be noted that it's unsustainable to be able to shut down the largest intersection in the city for several nights in a row during rush hour.
00:14:13.460 At some point, the city will eventually have to say, you can't do this at Bloor Young.
00:14:18.660 So I'm afraid this is not looking like it's going to end well.
00:14:22.060 All right, here is the ratio of the week.
00:14:24.300 The winner is Chrystia Freeland for this absurd take. 1.00
00:14:28.320 She wants to remind all Canadians that actually she is going to be the one who's going to make sure banks treat Canadians fairly.
00:14:35.680 Not, of course, like she was the one who told banks to freeze accounts for people who dared to protest the government.
00:14:42.280 Take a look at this.
00:14:44.040 Whether it is ensuring Canadians have access to affordable banking options and are not subjected to unfair fees,
00:14:48.860 or making sure they receive the mortgage relief they need in times of distress,
00:14:52.440 we will continue working to ensure Canadians are treated fairly by their banks.
00:14:56.680 Oh, sure you will, Chrystia Freeland.
00:14:58.980 1,670 replies to only 420 likes.
00:15:04.680 It seems as though, no matter what Chrystia Freeland writes on social media,
00:15:08.700 Canadians just don't believe a word of it.
00:15:11.100 Chrystia Freeland, the minister responsible for freezing the bank accounts of Canadians she didn't like,
00:15:16.400 is also the minister in charge of making sure that Canadians are treated fairly by their banks.
00:15:20.760 You can't make this stuff up.
00:15:22.940 Laughable and ironic.
00:15:25.080 By the way, that comment got over 1,200 likes.
00:15:29.360 Communism replacing the free market?
00:15:31.500 You are also making sure that you can shut down their bank accounts if they want to protest your fascist policies.
00:15:37.000 There, fixed it for you.
00:15:38.300 Yikes. Rough day there for Chrystia Freeland. 1.00
00:15:40.860 Did they really expect Canadians to forget that they froze the bank accounts of peaceful protesters?
00:15:45.820 Just incredible.
00:15:47.160 Alright everyone, that's going to do it for us this week on the show.
00:15:49.660 Thank you so much for tuning in.
00:15:51.320 My name is Harrison Faulkner, and this is Ratio.
00:15:54.180 You're welcome.
00:15:55.320 Have a good one.
00:15:55.800 monstess.
00:15:56.220 ...
