00:02:46.080 news. So a report from the Globe and Mail reveals that Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ontario Premier

00:02:52.240 Doug Ford have privately discussed the possibility of an early federal election. This is according to a

00:02:58.400 Globe and Mail report that just dropped this morning, Monday, February 9th, 2026. Sources say the

00:03:03.200 conversations were informal and took place on several occasions, including around the time

00:03:08.080 of last month's first ministers meeting in Ottawa. One source says that Premier Ford raised the idea

00:03:15.040 of going to the polls as an opportunity to secure a clear majority. Yes, that would be Ontario's

00:03:22.000 Conservative Premier coaching our Liberal Prime Minister on how to secure a majority government. This comes

00:03:28.400 days after Mark Carney told reporters that he has no interest in calling a snap election following

00:03:34.400 speculation raised by an announcement by the government of a grocery rebate aka bribing voters

00:03:41.680 with their own money. This feels like many days we spent on the campaign when I was covering the

00:03:46.160 campaign, lots of grocery stores, lots of affordability, so you're not considering a spring election?

00:03:49.760 I don't, you can't draw that conclusion at all. Tell me that. Well, of course we're not. We're not. We're

00:04:00.240 focused on results for Canadians. We're working through parliaments to get results for Canadians.

00:04:11.760 Minister has repeatedly denied any plans to call in early election and his office doubled down on that

00:04:16.720 position over the weekend. A spokesperson from the PMO told the Global Mail, quote, we are not going to

00:04:23.360 the polls as the Prime Minister has clearly said in his media availability, unquote. Despite the repeated

00:04:29.600 denial, news came out today that Elections Canada has placed an order for 700,000 tally sheets and other

00:04:38.000 ballot supplies as reported by Blacklock's reporter and the wonderful Holly Doan. It's really unbelievable that

00:04:45.200 they can sit there and deny that we're going to an election while Elections Canada is out there

00:04:50.240 ordering all the stuff that you would need for an election. The timing could be favorable for Mr.

00:04:54.640 Carney as the NDP is currently without a leader and that party's leadership race isn't set to conclude

00:05:00.400 until the end of March. So we're looking at a window where we could be going into an election

00:05:04.880 very soon. Plus it comes amid rising trade tensions with the United States. President Trump has expressed

00:05:11.600 concerns about Mark Carney's relationship with China. As we reported here at Juno News, Carney was looking

00:05:17.280 very chummy with Xi Jinping over in China and the Americans didn't like that too much. President

00:05:22.960 Trump even recently called out Prime Minister Mark Carney on true social using the familiar

00:05:29.840 dig calling him Governor Carney. Remember that whole routine from last year? It kind of helped create the

00:05:35.920 whole elbows up movement that got Mark Carney elected in the first place. We'll keep an eye on

00:05:48.480 about a federal ban on the news social media platform X. While that's happening, one Canadian government is

00:06:08.960 something that happened over at the CBC speaking to CBC's Rosemary Barton. Former Liberal leader

00:06:14.560 Stefan Dion blasted Premier Daniel Smith accusing her of flirting with separatism. Now Dion who helped draft

00:06:23.440 the Clarity Act legislation which legally enshrined that a referendum for province can help legally can lead to

00:06:31.040 legally separating from Canada that has to have a clear question declaring independence. And he is calling out

00:06:37.600 Smith and telling her to quote, be clear if she supports Albertan independence or not.

00:06:45.600 What advice would you give to the federal government, Monsieur Dion? As you know, the Prime Minister signed

00:06:50.560 a memorandum of understanding with Alberta to look at the possible creation of a pipeline and to do some other things

00:06:57.520 around energy in that province. That was partly how the Prime Minister wanted to deal with some of this

00:07:04.800 frustration that Albertans are feeling. What would be your advice in terms of how to handle this situation?

00:07:11.920 I have no patience for separatist blackmail. And when the Premier is involved in separatist blackmail,

00:07:18.640 you should say to the Premier, I will come with a deal with you if it makes sense for Alberta and Canada,

00:07:23.680 but not in order to mollify the separatists of your party. Put your country before your party,

00:07:29.120 please. That would be my reaction. If this agreement makes sense for Canada and Alberta, you do it.

00:07:34.960 But don't do it in order to please the separatist. It never works. And it's a waste of energy. In my

00:07:41.040 province, Quebec, I've seen that so much. People with full of skills and talents, instead of working to

00:07:47.600 improve the situation of Quebec in Canada and Canada as a whole, they are trying to split the

00:07:52.800 country and they are wasting their energy in it. That's very sad for Quebec. I don't think Alberta

00:07:58.240 should emulate that. Now, Smith has repeatedly stated that she does not want Alberta to separate

00:08:03.600 from Canada, stating instead that she prefers a strong Alberta with more sovereignty within a united

00:08:11.840 Canada. I've always been clear that me and our United Conservative Caucus are supportive of a strong

00:08:19.200 and sovereign Alberta within a united Canada. Last April, Smith created legislation to lower the legal

00:08:26.560 threshold needed for petitioners to initiate a referendum, lowered it from 600,000 back down to 180,000

00:08:34.880 signatures, stating it would, quote, expand opportunities for Albertans to be involved in

00:08:40.080 direct democracy. According to Juneau News, the conversation took place after several meetings

00:08:44.720 between pro-independence Alberta Prosperity Group and the US Trump administration, including in the

00:08:51.040 White House, over a potential Alberta becoming a sovereign nation within North America. And you

00:08:58.080 will recall that last month, BC Premier David Eby called the group treasonous. Unbelievable story here

00:09:05.600 out of Eastern Canada, New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt has declared that her government will be leaving

00:09:10.960 the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, after not liking the kind of, quote,

00:09:16.480 engagement from New Brunswicker, unquote, that she sees on the platform as according to Global

00:09:21.440 News during the CBC's Power and Politics on Friday. Holt said that she made the decision to, quote,

00:09:26.880 go where New Brunswickers are and to stop posting any communication on the X platform.

00:09:33.280 Well, it's something that we've been thinking about doing for quite some time,

00:09:38.560 because we've just seen that it used to be a forum for more dialogue. And we used to see better

00:09:46.000 engagement and back and forth with New Brunswickers on the platform. But that doesn't seem to be the

00:09:51.760 case anymore. And then our child and youth advocate also made the recommendation that government be off

00:09:59.120 the platform. So that was another straw on the pile, as they say. And look, we want to go where

00:10:06.720 the conversations are, are vibrant and diverse. In a post on X, Holt noted that the government could

00:10:13.920 instead be found on the app Blue Sky, Blue Sky, where the majority of the users are deranged anti-Trump

00:10:21.520 leftists. So that's where you have to go to get government updates. According to Premier Holt,

00:10:27.120 she said, recent concerns raised about X's operations are deeply troubling. Protecting

00:10:32.240 the safety and well-being of young people is a core responsibility of the government,

00:10:36.080 said Holt in her supposedly last post ever on X. She continued, we recognize that the platform's

00:10:43.200 recent history, including reports of harmful content and inadequate safeguards, has eroded trust that it

00:10:49.520 can be used in a way that aligns with our values and obligations to New Brunswickers, unquote. Holt claimed

00:10:56.080 to the CBC that her government's child and youth advocate, Kelly Lamarick advised New Brunswick to

00:11:01.840 leave the platform because of the exploitation. Certainly our child and youth advocate was calling

00:11:07.760 on the government to stop using X because of the exploitation of youth and the lack of controls or

00:11:15.120 safeguards on the platform for, as you mentioned, manipulated images of youth and really violent and

00:11:24.000 illegal images that he doesn't think that the government should be out supporting with paid

00:11:31.440 and subscribed accounts. And so we won't be sending any more money to X and we won't be pushing out

00:11:39.200 content through that channel. Okay. Finally, my family and I spent some time over the weekend

00:11:44.080 watching the Winter Olympics. Now, full disclosure, I love the Olympics. It's like the perfect

00:11:48.640 combination of sports, which I love and just patriotism. You could just outright love your country.

00:11:54.960 I volunteered at the 2010 Winter Games in my hometown of Vancouver, had a wonderful time. So I love

00:12:01.040 bringing my kids in and watching Team Canada, cheer for Team Canada all together. Now, despite how

00:12:06.800 critical we are of Canada sometimes and its government and the direction it's headed,

00:12:10.880 the end of the day to steal our country and we love it. And it feels great to just unabashedly cheer

00:12:15.840 and support Canada. But this year, Canada is getting some attention for all the wrong reasons. And that is

00:12:24.160 because of these uniforms, this dressing, this style that they came out in. So as some background,

00:12:31.760 typically in the past, Canada has been clothed by either Hudson Bay Canada, HPC, or Roots Canada,

00:12:39.120 we all remember back in the 90s and the 2000s, back when, you know, the Canadian style was sort of this

00:12:45.840 cute, preppy Canadian look. This was 2010 Olympics. I love this picture. And then nowadays, it's Lululemon

00:12:54.080 who has taken over the contract. I love Lululemon. Most of my clothes that I wear when I'm not podcasting

00:12:58.000 are from Lululemon. They're super comfortable. But I don't understand what was going on

00:13:02.240 with this look. It's a weird scarf poncho thing. It kind of looks like they're wearing a sleeping bag,
