00:00:00.000 It's safe to say that the Canada you likely grew up in is no longer the Canada that you and I live
00:00:11.640 in. For example, things are suddenly impossible to afford. The idea of owning a home is out of
00:00:17.520 sight for millions of Canadians. Maybe you've realized that entry-level low-skill jobs are
00:00:22.400 filled with people who aren't even born in Canada. Maybe you've also realized that our trains and
00:00:26.880 planes no longer run on time or that Canadian infrastructure is failing. Or, for example, that
00:00:32.360 our cities are unusually filthy and dangerous to live in. But perhaps the most striking condition
00:00:38.200 of New Canada, if we can call it that, is the complete and total collapse of the Canadian
00:00:43.400 justice system. For the first time in most of our lives, we are seeing political prisoners in Canada
00:00:48.580 while repeat violent criminal offenders are released back onto the streets through our
00:00:54.660 revolving door bail system. You see, as repeat violent criminal offenders and even accused
00:00:59.920 murderers are released back onto the streets, the so-called Coutts 4, who have been charged
00:01:06.000 with conspiracy to commit murder of an RCMP officer, a serious crime, have been held in jail
00:01:12.320 for over 515 days. Well, we don't actually know why because a court order prohibits publishing
00:01:19.240 those details. What on earth is going on in this country? I mean, to say something is broken
00:01:24.700 would be an epic understatement. Drop a like in the video, help us out by subscribing to the
00:01:29.360 True North YouTube channel, and the common question for the episode is this. What do you think is behind
00:01:35.220 the push to reform bail and get repeat violent criminals back onto the streets? Let me know in
00:01:41.120 the comments and let's get into it. On Monday, the Ontario Provincial Police issued a rare statement
00:01:46.540 warning the public about a registered sex offender living at a children's camp for kids with autism.
00:01:52.440 Loriston Maloney, a man with 16 criminal charges related to trafficking and several prior convictions
00:01:59.220 related to trafficking minors, was living at the house where his wife, Amber Maloney, was running
00:02:05.440 the unfortunately named Beating the Odds children's camp for kids with autism. After news outlets picked up
00:02:12.320 this story that a registered sex offender was living at a children's camp for kids with autism,
00:02:17.300 some of the most vulnerable children in our society, a small protest was planned by mothers
00:02:23.280 who had sent their children to this facility just even a few days prior to this story breaking the news.
00:02:30.040 Well, I attended that protest yesterday morning and spoke directly with parents who had sent their
00:02:34.880 children to this camp. Listen as one mother breaks down while discussing what her and her child had been
00:02:42.560 through and her reaction to the shocking news released by the police on Monday. Take a listen.
00:02:48.480 My name is Candace Williamson. My son is eight years old. He's severe autistic, nonverbal, fully nonverbal.
00:02:58.560 He loved this place in the beginning. He loved coming here. He was progressing very well.
00:03:06.640 Past couple weeks, I was getting messages from the owner, Amber, asking me to hang out with her and
00:03:14.480 her husband, go up to their cottage. They have a hot tub. I deserve to relax. They know what I go through.
00:03:21.200 I don't know if that was trying to groom me, but also my I found I was supposed to go there to our
00:03:29.120 yesterday Tuesday and hang out with them until I found this out on Monday. Thank God. And I have a
00:03:36.560 friend of mine who her son comes here. We've been friends since high school. And after we found this
00:03:42.160 out, we talked and both of our stories match. They were trying to lure her there as well to go hang out
00:03:47.760 with them at the cottage. My child has been acting very different the past couple of weeks. He's
00:03:56.960 having super meltdowns before he would come here. He loved it in the beginning. Melissa,
00:04:03.040 the senior therapist, she's called, which I don't think any of these therapists are qualified. My one
00:04:09.440 son's other therapist, Riley, I don't believe she's involved in this. She ended up telling me that none of
00:04:16.400 the therapists have graduated. None of them are certified. I don't know why I wasn't told this.
00:04:23.840 I don't know why it wasn't disclosed that this man has these charges. I don't know why he's protected.
00:04:30.640 I think I don't know what to be honest. I'm terrified for my son and these kids. The day prior
00:04:37.280 on Tuesday night, Maloney was interviewed by CTV news and dismissed the concerns released by the police
00:04:45.360 saying that it wasn't a danger for him to be around children, despite him being a registered
00:04:49.840 sex offender. Maloney and his wife, Amber Maloney, the woman running this facility,
00:04:54.640 said that he had no interaction with the children at all. Well, another mother at this protest,
00:05:00.320 who had sent her child to this camp for over a year, accused Maloney of lying and CTV of being fake news,
00:05:07.760 saying that she has receipts, that this man was interacting with the children at this camp. Take a
00:05:13.520 listen. Do you, is your, does your son go to this camp, has been to this camp? Do you know people that
00:05:19.760 have gone to this camp and been here? He's been going here for a year and a half between IBI therapy
00:05:24.640 services, behavioral services and the camp. And yesterday, uh, the, the man said that he went on,
00:05:32.960 did a CTV interview, said that the police are not telling the truth, that they're intentionally trying
00:05:38.400 to make this out to be something that it isn't, but they took the extraordinary step to warn the
00:05:43.040 public. Surely there must be something going on. What do you make of the fact that he seems to be
00:05:46.480 denying his own charges, which are on the record? He's lying. CTV is fake news. I have text messages
00:05:54.560 from that man from June 25th, uh, July 25th. No, June 25th. He was with my son wanting to drop my son
00:06:05.040 off at home. His father picked him up and his father seen him in the kitchen. I see him here three days a
00:06:12.000 week, at least with the kids. He's a liar. So the idea that he, he says, and his wife says that he has a
00:06:19.600 different job and he leaves the house, but it's just a house. So it makes, it doesn't sound logical
00:06:24.960 that someone who lives in the house wouldn't have access to the children. You're, you're, you're
00:06:28.800 saying that's a straight up lie. It's a lie. He's a subpar contractor who relies on his employees to do
00:06:35.360 the jobs for him while he's at home all day. And last question, what do you make of the fact that
00:06:42.080 the police only notified the public on Monday about this and they likely would have known about this man's
00:06:48.080 rap sheet for a year plus? It seems like a quite of a late, quite a late announcement. It was late
00:06:54.240 and I understand that there, there is an active investigation still going on. And when the media
00:06:59.920 and people find out what that entails, they'll understand why it was delayed. Last night,
00:07:04.720 Lauriston Maloney and Amber Maloney were arrested by the Ontario provincial police facing multiple
00:07:10.000 charges related to human trafficking. These charges include recruiting, exercising control,
00:07:16.400 exploitation, assault, forcible confinement, and financial benefit from committing a crime.
00:07:22.480 The Maloney's are no longer on the street and for the moment are no longer a threat to the public,
00:07:27.600 but that is cold comfort to mothers who had sent their children to this facility for over a year,
00:07:33.440 not knowing who was really behind this facility. Now, this raises some serious questions about what the
00:07:39.760 Ontario provincial police were doing, letting a facility like this remain open for so long,
00:07:45.360 while knowing that a registered sex offender lived at the residence. That public statement by the
00:07:51.760 Ontario provincial police released on Monday mirrors a similar statement issued around 10 days ago by the
00:07:58.880 Winnipeg police warning the public about the release of a repeat violent sex offender known as Leslie Wayne
00:08:06.880 Oliver Mercredi. You see, the Winnipeg police know almost for certain that Mercredi is going to re-offend.
00:08:15.200 The police even state explicitly that Mercredi is at high risk to re-offend in a sexual manner.
00:08:22.480 All children are at risk, particularly females. You know, for all we know, Mercredi is back on the streets
00:08:29.040 planning to attack his next victim. But you know who isn't out on the streets right now?
00:08:33.440 The Coutts Four. These four men, Chris Lesak, Chris Carbert, Anthony Olenek, and Jerry Morin,
00:08:41.280 have been held without trial in jail for over 515 days on charges for conspiracy to commit the murder
00:08:50.400 of an RCMP officer. These four men were participating in the Coutts border blockade,
00:08:56.160 and due to two undercover RCMP agents, they were caught up in a sting operation, allegedly trying
00:09:02.480 to get weapons for, as they are charged allegedly to commit the murder of an RCMP officer. These men
00:09:08.720 have been held in jail for 515 days, denied even the most basic rights given to some of the worst
00:09:15.280 violent offenders. No bail and no trial date set. As is written in this opinion piece published in
00:09:22.720 Newsweek magazine by Gordon McGill titled, Justin Trudeau's Political Prisoners. These are serious
00:09:29.200 charges, which should imply serious evidence presented at an expeditious trial. The evidence
00:09:35.120 on offer is vague and ambiguous. Text messages, testimony from two undercover RCMP officers working
00:09:41.920 the crowd at the Coutts protest site, and a widely circulated photo of allegedly confiscated weapons that
00:09:47.840 provided the main justification for the invocation of the Emergencies Act. Whatever the charges against
00:09:53.600 them, the denial of bail is an egregious departure from the norm, and has been given no explanation. As
00:09:59.920 Donald Best, a former detective and 15-year veteran of the Toronto Police Service has pointed out,
00:10:05.280 everybody gets bail, including a suspect accused of first-degree murder of a Toronto police officer, and,
00:10:12.880 somewhat ironically, a member of Antifa who drove his jeep into a freedom convoy protest site in Winnipeg,
00:10:19.680 Manitoba. These are political prisoners' pure and simple, McGill writes. They are being denied basic
00:10:26.800 rights due to even the most violent of criminals because they are on the wrong side of the Trudeau
00:10:31.680 government. They are being used as a fig leaf, the last shred of Trudeau's legitimacy for invoking the
00:10:37.520 emergencies act and for the massive overreach of freezing bank accounts and seizing assets that it
00:10:43.120 incurred. The case of Tamera Leach is also a perfect example of what's going on in this country.
00:10:48.720 After Tamera Leach was arrested at the freedom convoy and charged with counseling to commit
00:10:53.840 mischief, Leach was the subject of a nationwide manhunt after she apparently breached bail conditions
00:11:00.560 by daring to take a photo at a gala dinner, standing beside the wrong people, I guess.
00:11:06.320 As Olenek, Morin, Carbert and Lezak are sitting in jail awaiting trial, which will likely be next
00:11:12.720 year, legislation like Bill C-75 passed by the Trudeau government back in 2018 specifically states
00:11:19.600 that special consideration should be given to the accused who have indigenous and other, quote,
00:11:25.120 members of vulnerable populations. Furthermore, a bill called Bill C-5 by the Trudeau government
00:11:30.640 was introduced to shrink mandatory minimum sentencing to, quote, address the over-incarceration rate
00:11:37.520 of black and marginalized Canadians and indigenous peoples. So thanks to Justin Trudeau and his bowtie
00:11:45.920 wearing justice minister, David Lamedi, we now have a revolving door bail system that releases violent
00:11:54.320 repeat offenders and locks up political prisoners. That is the state of the country right now,
00:12:01.040 and that is squarely on the prime minister. For example, Umar Zamir, a man accused of committing
00:12:08.880 first-degree murder against Toronto police officer Jeffrey Northrup is out on bail right now. The accused
00:12:15.840 murderer of 28-year-old Greg Pirchalla, the OPP officer, was released out on bail before he allegedly
00:12:22.480 committed this murder because a judge was weighing his indigenous background. An innocent mother who
00:12:29.120 was shot dead in broad daylight in downtown Toronto just two weeks ago was allegedly killed by a man
00:12:35.760 released out on bail. And the accused murderer of 16-year-old Gabriel Magalese outside of a Toronto
00:12:41.760 bus stop was also released on bail before allegedly committing this heinous act. Now, this is happening
00:12:47.760 across the country. Repeat violent offenders are being released out on bail almost certain to re-offend,
00:12:54.480 while other Canadians charged with other offenses seem to be not given the same treatment. It wasn't
00:13:00.880 really any surprise that we're seeing this in our country today. Interestingly, the public statements
00:13:06.160 issued by the Winnipeg police about Mercredi and by the OPP about Maloney both state clearly that
00:13:14.880 charter rights are being upheld for both Mercredi and Maloney. In fact, in the OPP statement, they say
00:13:21.360 that they recognize Maloney's charter rights and freedoms and that they cannot be infringed.
00:13:27.600 Interesting because I didn't see anything from the Winnipeg police and the Ontario provincial police
00:13:32.320 about upholding the charter rights of non-violent Canadians at the Freedom Convoy protests. That didn't
00:13:38.400 seem to be an issue for them, but they did go out of their way to express that the charter rights for
00:13:43.360 Maloney must be upheld. Ratio of the week time. The winner this week is Christia Freeland. It's been
00:13:49.280 a while since we've given Christia Freeland some recognition for being a ratio expert, but she really
00:13:54.640 has a has a knack of getting humiliated on Twitter. Take a look at this latest tweet that she released
00:14:00.000 just yesterday. Canada's plan to bring down inflation is working, Freeland writes. And she has a nice graphic
00:14:06.080 saying that Canada's inflation is the lowest in the G7 only at 2.8%. Well, for whatever reason,
00:14:14.000 this didn't really pass the smell test for a lot of Canadians. 3381 replies to only 1927 likes.
00:14:24.240 Take a look at some of these comments. What Freeland is not saying. Food prices have increased by over
00:14:29.920 9%, translating to a nearly 20% increase in two years, the fastest growth in more than 40 years.
00:14:37.520 Mortgage interest costs have also significantly increased, rising over 30% in the past year due
00:14:42.880 to the Bank of Canada's attempt to control inflation. Rent has also risen with an increase of 5.8% in the
00:14:49.600 past year. Food, housing and utilities are way up. These are necessities in life and the most expensive
00:14:55.600 items we buy. Inflation isn't down. I disagree, writes this user. Housing, fuel, food, none included
00:15:02.720 in the numbers. You are misleading Canadians. Almost 600 likes on that reply. Yeah, nice try,
00:15:08.480 Christian Freeland. I know you like to try and also fudge the numbers like that one time you spoke at a
00:15:12.560 grocery store and took the price tags off the food behind you. Aren't you proud of how we're doing in
00:15:18.320 this country? Shouldn't food prices be down? All right, everyone, that's going to do it for us this
00:15:21.920 week on the show. Thank you so much for tuning in. My name is Harrison Faulkner and this is Ratio.
