00:00:00.000 I think we're going to hear a lot in the coming weeks months and even years when we look back on
00:00:11.040 the coronavirus crisis that it's government that is what saved us that's what saved society
00:00:16.920 individuals and businesses but hold on a second is that really true yes it's the case that
00:00:23.580 government has introduced various different measures to shore up yes the health care system
00:00:28.080 individuals and businesses that were flailing because of the lockdown and most people agree
00:00:33.540 regardless of political philosophy that some element of that was necessary but let's pause
00:00:39.100 for a second and take a look at what the private sector what business what manufacturing has done
00:00:44.480 in the past few weeks in the past couple months and we will see that they are the real heroes
00:00:49.580 I've actually been on the c seed and bcc of a whole bunch of emails between different manufacturers
00:00:55.300 manufacturer organizations and their contacts in government the people in government who are
00:01:00.200 tasked with ramping up ventilator production or at least trying to ensure that it is ramped up
00:01:05.140 getting different mask equipment and so forth and it's been really interesting to read these email
00:01:09.660 trails and see how the people on the front lines in manufacturing are actually the ones who know how
00:01:15.900 this works and they're the ones telling government here's what you got to do and the ones pushing
00:01:20.540 government to move faster and more efficiently and I gotta say it's really impressive they are the ones
00:01:26.880 who are actually chomping on the heels of government saying let's do this let's do that let's move
00:01:31.240 faster trying to mobilize society to deal with all of these problems quite frankly I think government
00:01:36.740 in all of this has always been two or three weeks behind so back when it was obvious we should
00:01:41.680 have done travel restrictions the feds were saying no the science shows that somehow doesn't work and
00:01:46.580 it's racist and so forth and of course a few weeks later those of us who were calling for it were
00:01:51.000 vindicated they did it same with the masks now we're in this position where it's time for a phase
00:01:57.060 one reopening of society mostly all across Canada maybe the hardest hit areas not yet but most provinces
00:02:03.120 we've got to reopen and it's the government that's being the most cautious about this and it's businesses
00:02:08.720 that are already implementing all of these different plans and initiatives to allow for the safe
00:02:13.920 reopening of society with different social distancing in the workplace and so forth so at the end of all
00:02:19.480 of this we're going to have that conversation about what happened what worked what didn't and there's
00:02:24.420 going to be a lot of people out there who already believe that the state needs to play a greater role in
00:02:29.120 our lives who tell us it was because government did all of this not so fast though I think we need
00:02:35.240 to acknowledge all of the initiatives that private businesses manufacturing individuals entrepreneurs
00:02:40.400 they all stepped up and they were the ones actually behind the scenes offering the innovative ideas
00:02:47.060 they were the ones always ahead of the curve throughout all of this our hats off to them a lot of great
00:02:52.420 Canadian businesses manufacturers we got to do everything we can in the months and years ahead
00:02:57.480 to make sure that they remain strong and that we create good jobs good opportunities in Canada
00:03:03.120 lots of made in Canada products that are made here that we buy here do not forget about them
00:03:09.080 you
