00:00:00.000 I think one of the things that we've seen in terms of what Conservatives have been saying

00:00:13.640 is that they are playing, not just here in Canada but around the world, a very dangerous

00:00:19.620 game around the politics of fear, the politics of division, of pitting Canadians against

00:00:25.000 each other and raising the kinds of anxieties that quite frankly don't help solve problems

00:00:30.600 but actually hinder them. I'm reminded of the very first conversation I had with Bill

00:00:35.880 Blair years ago when I was asking him to think about running for the Liberal Party of Canada.

00:00:42.640 One of the things he said stuck with me and certainly echoes in my mind today as we give

00:00:48.720 him these new responsibilities. He said the number one enemy of public security is fear.

00:00:57.700 And when Conservatives across the country are playing the fear card, we need strong, reassuring

00:01:04.320 forces to counter that and to demonstrate that the safety and security of Canadians and their

00:01:09.660 communities is something that we will never flinch on, that we will continue to deliver.

00:01:15.120 We will deliver in a way that pulls Canadians together instead of dividing them like the Conservatives

00:01:21.240 tend to be doing.
