00:00:00.000 I'd like to make two observations about the vaccines conversation unfolding in Canada right
00:00:10.260 now. The first one has to do with doses, or lack thereof. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau really only
00:00:16.600 has one job right now when it comes to managing the pandemic. You know, this is primarily a
00:00:21.600 provincial issue. The premiers have all the tasks to tell people what they can and can't do, bring
00:00:26.280 in the lockdowns, manage the long-term care facilities, that is the place where most of
00:00:30.540 the deaths are occurring, and of course, doing the actual delivery of the vaccines. And they're
00:00:35.400 saying, all right, give us the vaccines. We're ready to get them into the arms of people. But
00:00:40.040 Justin Trudeau, well, he was the one to bring us all the doses, and uh-oh, he's failed in that one
00:00:45.880 job. How could he possibly do this? Because he was bragging just months ago, Canada has secured,
00:00:51.300 secured was the word he used, the most number of doses per capita in any country in the world. Is
00:00:56.640 it true? Yes, it's true. But what did secured mean? I mean, where were we in the timeline for all of
00:01:02.820 that, for the delivery? Were we just behind all these other countries? I mean, what good does it
00:01:07.020 do us if we've got more promised, but we're at the back of the line? Well, I think a lot of it had to do
00:01:13.140 with the fact, we know a lot of it had to do with the fact, that he put all his eggs in one basket
00:01:17.920 with just one company. And that all fell apart. Well, what was the company? Was it AstraZeneca or
00:01:24.160 Pfizer? One of those other companies that is a household name for many people in North America.
00:01:28.840 We're really very familiar with those companies, and we have some degree of trust in them.
00:01:32.760 No, it was with a company from China called CanSino. Really? One company putting all of it
00:01:40.360 into them? Yes. And then that all fell apart. Also at a time when Canadians are increasingly and 0.60
00:01:45.300 rightfully wary of the Chinese government and corporations in China connected to that government.
00:01:49.840 Yikes. What on earth was he thinking? But my second point, I also want to talk about
00:01:55.820 what are Canadians thinking right now about the vaccines and what they've sort of been led to
00:02:01.940 feel about the vaccines as this magic bullet solution. I'm really concerned that some people
00:02:07.380 are going to be in for something of a psychological crash when they clue into what a lot of infectious
00:02:12.740 diseases experts and immunologists are actually saying about the vaccines. I think a lot of
00:02:17.820 people have been wrongly led to believe that you're going to get this vaccine and a bunch of people are
00:02:23.780 going to get it. We're all going to get it by the summer, what have you. And then coronavirus, gone.
00:02:27.240 Done. Not a single person gets it again. Not a single person dies of it. It's a hundred percent over.
00:02:33.000 Not true. Actually, some of the heads of those various companies, the CEO of Moderna,
00:02:37.280 was just saying the other day, coronavirus becoming an endemic illness, which means it's just around.
00:02:42.980 It's out and about in society for the rest of my natural life. Jeez, I don't think Canadians are 1.00
00:02:49.160 prepared for that. What does the vaccine mean? Then what the vaccine means is that hopefully you're
00:02:53.040 considerably reducing the hospitalizations of people in high-risk categories in their 50s and 60s
00:02:58.940 and 70s. Does it mean nobody's going to die of it anymore? No, we're not sure. I mean, it seems like
00:03:04.340 people in their 80s and 90s, what some experts are saying, could still unfortunately die of this,
00:03:08.500 even if they have the vaccine. So I think as much as you need to hold Justin Trudeau to aggressive
00:03:14.160 account on getting those doses here, I also think we don't want to continue to lead people to believe
00:03:19.820 that this is sort of a magic bullet, quick fix situation where suddenly, bam, coronavirus is gone
00:03:25.780 and disappeared. Because a lot of people, I worry that they believe that. And then as the weeks continue,
00:03:31.260 the months go by and they hear more and more stories about various vaccine efficacy or just
00:03:36.400 that all these people are saying endemic illness here to stay, I don't know if they're prepared for
00:03:41.580 that. And I think we should do a bit more to prepare them for what the reality of the situation
00:03:46.880 may be in the months and I guess years to come.
