The federal government may have eased the carbon tax regulations, but don't be deceived, this is still a carbon tax and it's still just as bad. This is an example of the media not picking up on what actually happened here. Back in January, Catherine McKenna, the Environment Minister, set the benchmark at 70%, meaning that the federal government would be put on any company whose emissions were more than 70% of their industry s average emissions. Now, she's changed it to 80%, or for some industries 90%, but I want to make very clear about this: the percentage is based on the average emissions for the industry, which means that the average, as in where most people are concerned, is still going to be penalized.
