Summary
In this episode, I discuss gaslighting and how Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been doing it for a number of years. Gaslighting is a term used to describe a tactic used by the Prime Minister to make us feel like he is the victim when in fact he's the one who is actually the victim. In this episode we explore a few times when we've been gasled by the PM and call him out.

So whether it's the pipeline protests, tech, or the UN Security Council seat, Canadians are
00:00:10.120
rightfully angry about the lack of leadership that Prime Minister Trudeau has been showing lately.
00:00:13.560
But the anger out there is different than what you get when a government is incompetent or makes
00:00:19.140
missteps or is even a bit hypocritical. Canadians are so angry because Prime Minister Trudeau has
00:00:24.120
been gaslighting us on a number of different issues and for a number of years. So I wanted
00:00:28.800
to explore a couple of times when we were being gaslit because it's important we recognize
00:00:35.320
So firstly, gaslighting. The term comes from the 1944 film Gaslight and in it the husband
00:00:42.260
slowly convinces the wife that she's going crazy. Now it stars Ingrid Bergman and Angela
00:00:46.660
Lansbury and there's some clips on YouTube so you may want to check those out. It's
00:00:49.840
quite an interesting film but in a nutshell it's basically when you call someone to question
00:00:57.020
their own judgment, question their memory, you flip things around on them, you accuse
00:01:00.260
them of what you're actually doing so that way you get to be the victim and they feel
00:01:04.200
kind of crazy when they call you out. So obviously the most recent example is the pipeline process.
00:01:09.380
So we see that the Prime Minister is extremely concerned and he's taking it very seriously.
00:01:15.800
He's called in the incident response team and when it came time to have an opposition leaders
00:01:20.580
meeting with everybody to discuss the crisis, he didn't invite Andrew Scheer. Now Andrew Scheer
00:01:25.880
gave what was possibly the greatest speech of his career. I mean, where was this Andrew
00:01:31.120
when we needed him during the campaign? But regardless, he gave a really good speech and
00:01:35.920
said that Prime Minister Trudeau, your speeches are a bunch of word salad, you're not taking
00:01:39.620
this seriously, you're phoning it in and so you've got to act. So the Prime Minister decided
00:01:45.020
he's not going to invite him. But the reason is that Prime Minister Trudeau said that Andrew
00:01:50.220
actually disqualified himself. Now let's sort of change up the scenario for a second. This
00:01:55.760
is classic gaslighting and think about it this way. Imagine someone saying, you know, I didn't
00:02:01.100
want to hit you. You made me hit you. Your behavior was what made me hit you. If he would
00:02:06.100
stop behaving like that, then obviously I wouldn't hit you. So this is a classic, classic gaslighting.
00:02:11.640
I don't think people realize it because he's been doing this to us for a number of years and
00:02:17.820
that's actually part of gaslighting. It's, you know, you don't even realize that it's happening
00:02:21.520
to you because it's been going on for so long. Now, speaking of going on for so long,
00:02:25.940
the entire protest issue lately is because of another gaslighting issue, another gaslighting
00:02:31.980
incident that happened where the Prime Minister has been failing on for a number of years.
00:02:35.480
So this is about reconciliation. Now, a long time ago in 2015, before the Prime Minister got elected,
00:02:41.640
he said that reconciliation was going to be a huge part of his party's platform. I think it was even
00:02:46.420
quoted somewhere saying that if he fails on reconciliation, he will have considered his Prime
00:02:50.560
ministership a failure. And so he really wanted to focus on this issue. Now, he's not been doing
00:02:57.540
the best job, as evidenced by the fact that this map exists where First Nations and Indigenous
00:03:03.800
communities around the country are on boil water advisories. So some of these communities are on
00:03:08.380
boil water advisories and they have been so since 1995. So imagine you're a, you know, 24, 25 year old,
00:03:14.980
you may have grown up and you've never ever had clean, reliable drinking water from the tap.
00:03:19.400
So this is an issue that the Prime Minister has, you know, he's not been doing as great as he could.
00:03:23.900
Is he a total failure? Is he not? You know, that's up for debate. But he's clearly not doing the best
00:03:28.920
at reconciliation and he's already been re-elected. So he's already got one term and he's, you know,
00:03:33.000
he's not succeeded, clearly. So the gaslighting comes in where he decides he's going to flip things
00:03:37.500
around on Andrew Scheer again. And it's not that, you know, it's not that he's failing. It's not that,
00:03:42.600
you know, he's doing real reconciliation. Andrew Scheer is actually the one who's failing.
00:03:45.840
He's, he's, he's the one without a vision for Canada. He's the one without the vision
00:03:50.500
for reconciliation. So again, it's flipping things around on someone and saying, you know,
00:03:54.620
I'm doing great reconciliation. What you're doing, that's a failure. The most famous one,
00:03:59.420
though, I think is this one. It's all stems from this. Now this is the, because it's 2015 remark,
00:04:05.800
you guys probably recall that the Prime Minister, when asked, you know, why do you have 50% women in
00:04:09.940
your cabinet? He, you know, slyly said, you know, he smartly said, um, you can see his nice smile
00:04:15.100
here, distracting. You can see his smile. He said, um, because it's 2015 now, you know, helping women
00:04:22.020
achieve, you know, helping them break down barriers where there's discrimination or even systemic
00:04:25.640
discrimination. These are all great things, but for a prime minister who holds himself as a super
00:04:31.080
feminist to then be accused of this, um, you guys obviously remember when he was accused of
1.00
00:04:37.340
allegedly groping a woman 18 years ago. Now there's a couple of issues here. And the first
00:04:42.720
one is right in the headline. So you can see, I don't remember any negative interactions.
00:04:46.940
So picture someone, you know, a couple, they've gone on a date and you know, they broke up and
00:04:51.640
you know, later the woman says that, you know, so-and-so he actually groped me and everyone
00:04:56.360
asks the guy and he says, you know, I don't remember any negative interactions. You know, I didn't,
00:04:59.840
I didn't do anything. Um, you know, I remember that day. Well, it was, it was a great day. I don't
00:05:04.200
remember anything. I don't remember doing anything. I don't recall any negative interaction.
00:05:07.900
But to top it off, he added that, you know, if he would have known she was a reporter,
00:05:13.800
allegedly again, he would have known that she was a reporter for a national paper. He never would
00:05:18.040
have been so forward. So it's like a multi-layer gaslighting because being forward and groping are
00:05:23.860
two really different things. Normally when you go on a date and you know, the guy's being forward,
00:05:29.240
I mean the girl, anyone can really be forward. Um, I'm being forward, you would think that they're
00:05:33.060
bringing up inappropriate subjects. They're talking about things that they might, you know,
00:05:37.040
they probably shouldn't. Um, not that they're groping. Groping is, you know, next level. That's,
00:05:41.260
that's not being forward. That's, you know, that can be assault. That can be a number of different
00:05:45.460
things. I don't think anyone really thinks that that's being forward. Now this entire thing got
00:05:51.000
compounded. His feminism got compounded by the fact that he ejected Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane
1.00
00:05:56.320
Philpott out of caucus because they raised concerns on a number of different issues.
00:06:00.260
So here we have super feminist Justin Trudeau, again, allegedly groping women and then injecting
00:06:05.260
some women out of his caucus. But the gaslighting begins when he says, you know, the entire thing
00:06:10.800
actually increased my feminism. So I'm a really, really big feminist and all these things that I've
00:06:15.440
allegedly done. No, no, no, no, no. Don't worry about them. I'm a big feminist and they've increased
0.98
00:06:20.020
my feminism. They've caused me to think about them differently. Now, um, the real turn
00:06:26.040
is when he then preaches to us and says that hatred of women is creeping into the public debate.
00:06:31.660
So I think that some of these issues and some of the times when we're being gaslit,
00:06:35.400
they're hard to recognize because they've been going on for so long. But whenever these sort of
00:06:40.720
twists and turns, whenever you think the prime minister is being hypocritical, we've got to stop
00:06:44.460
and think, wait, wait, wait, is this regular hypocrisy? Is he simply saying, you know, do as I do,
00:06:49.520
as I say, not as I do, or is it actually gaslighting? And if it is gaslighting, it's very important
00:06:54.560
that we call him out on it because it's got to stop. I mean, the East West divide is a serious
00:06:59.780
problem. That's not going to be helped by gaslighting. There's a number of issues,
00:07:03.560
reconciliation that are not going to be helped by gaslighting. So the next time you see prime
00:07:07.080
minister Trudeau do something and you think it's gaslighting, check it out. Let's call him out on
