In this episode, I discuss the situation in Hong Kong and how Canada should respond to the growing number of refugees wanting to come to Canada from the former British colony of Hong Kong. I talk about why Hong Kongers are better immigrants to Canada than immigrants from other Asian countries, and what Canada should do about it.

00:00:00.000 It's going to be interesting to see how the Liberal government responds to the
00:00:08.820 issue of refugees wanting to come to Canada from Hong Kong. We have seen that 1.00
00:00:14.320 there is absolute turmoil on the streets as the people in Hong Kong, they stand up
00:00:18.720 and say, we want liberty, we want democracy, we want freedom, and the
00:00:23.080 government in China, which controls pretty much all of Hong Kong's movements,
00:00:26.880 they try and crush them, they try and stop them, and as many people are concerned,
00:00:31.500 they're going to try to basically swallow Hong Kong up whole. So a lot of people are
00:00:36.060 staying in the fight and fighting for their freedoms. Others say, we got to get
00:00:39.420 out of here because they've already been arrested, detained, and they have a lot
00:00:43.100 of concerns for their liberties. Many Hong Kongers over the years have already
00:00:46.440 come to Canada. By all accounts, it seems like our values are pretty similar and
00:00:50.640 Hong Kongers make for great immigrants to Canada. So what's it going to be? Are the 0.98
00:00:55.300 Liberals going to welcome them with open arms? I mean, you would think so, because
00:00:58.680 Justin Trudeau is the one who likes to do the hashtag, welcome to Canada. They act
00:01:02.860 like there is no refugee that they will not open the borders to immediately, like at
00:01:07.100 the Roxham Road border crossing. Or when it came to the Syrian refugee influx, which
00:01:11.720 was very much a hardship for those people, well, Justin Trudeau, he partially won the
00:01:16.320 2015 election by basically doing a bidding war against Stephen Harper and Tom
00:01:20.420 will care about just how many people he would admit and how quickly he would let
00:01:24.460 them in. You will remember that from a number of years ago. A number of government
00:01:27.900 agencies, a number of charities and private organizations working to bring in
00:01:31.920 refugees, they said, hold on, you're doing it too fast, you're not doing it right, 1.00
00:01:35.100 we're having problems absorbing them. Justin Trudeau didn't care. Well, now there
00:01:39.660 are reports of these Hong Kong immigrants who want to come to Canada, and
00:01:43.900 Christia Freeland, she has just responded with a cautious, okay, well, you know, we'll see
00:01:48.400 what happens, we'll play it by ear. Whoa, whoa, hold on a second. Where's the virtue
00:01:53.080 signaling? Where's all the hashtagging about all of this? Why is it that Prime
00:01:57.460 Minister Justin Trudeau is willing to sing from the mountains, hashtag welcome to
00:02:01.400 Canada, de facto open the borders, when it has something to do with the U.S. and
00:02:05.580 making Donald Trump look bad? Why is he okay about doing a conflict in Iraq and
00:02:09.700 Syria, but why is he not okay doing it when it comes to arrivals from Hong Kong?
00:02:14.320 Maybe he still will, who knows? The time is early in all of this, but I think
00:02:18.380 these are immigrants who should definitely be welcome to Canada compared
00:02:22.060 to, you know, if you're gonna make your pick out of ideal immigrant classes,
00:02:25.880 Hong Kong people who are fighting for democracy, they are it. Yep, no words yet
00:02:31.380 from Trudeau. I saw one media report on it suggesting, well, you know, Canada may not
00:02:36.260 actually want to upset China with all of this. Really? So you're okay with upsetting 0.99
00:02:41.440 Donald Trump with all of your tweeting, but you don't want to upset the
00:02:45.140 communists in China. Where are our priorities on this one?
