00:00:00.000 Justin Trudeau and the government of Canada voted in support of Hamas at the United Nations on
00:00:04.920 Tuesday. I wish I was kidding, but I am not. Despite Canada's long-standing policy of support
00:00:09.420 for Israel, Justin Trudeau has stabbed Jewish Canadians in the back. He is now calling for
00:00:14.440 Israel to more or less surrender to Hamas, all in pursuit of winning votes for his Liberal Party
00:00:19.840 of Canada. I'm Candace Malcolm, and this is The Candace Malcolm Show.
00:00:30.000 Hi everyone, thank you so much for tuning into the podcast. So it has been an interesting week
00:00:36.000 for Canada's foreign policy when it comes to Israel. In the span of less than 24 hours,
00:00:40.780 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau went from breaking bread with Jewish Canadians,
00:00:44.620 lighting the menorah to commemorate the Jewish festival of Hanukkah, to condemning Israel at 0.95
00:00:49.260 the United Nations, and more or less calling for them to surrender to Hamas. Yes, Justin Trudeau
00:00:54.200 voted in favor, in support of Hamas at the United Nations. So how did this all happen? We're going
00:00:58.860 to go through the timeline on the show today. So this was a scene in Ottawa on Monday evening,
00:01:03.140 Monday, December 12th, at a ceremony on Parliament Hill. Justin Trudeau was there,
00:01:06.720 Chrysia Freeland were there. They were showing their support for Jewish Canadians and paid respect
00:01:11.020 to the religious holiday of Hanukkah, the festival of lights. Now, it may seem a little mundane to
00:01:16.640 acknowledge Hanukkah, but honestly, in 2023, as I talked about on my show yesterday, it actually
00:01:21.760 takes some courage as a woke progressive politician like Justin Trudeau to attend a Hanukkah event.
00:01:27.440 Leftist politicians from Calgary Mayor Jody Gonduk to California Governor Gavin Newsom have decided to
00:01:33.780 either cancel or completely avoid Hanukkah celebrations, lest we anger our pro-Hamas 0.97
00:01:39.160 constituents. Well, Justin Trudeau did show up, and here he is wishing a happy Hanukkah to Jewish
00:01:44.400 Canadians. Hello, everyone. Tonight, Jewish people in Canada and around the world will gather around the
00:01:51.400 menorah for the first night of Hanukkah. I know the past two months have been incredibly difficult
00:01:57.240 for Jewish people. On October 7th, the world watched in horror as Hamas committed acts of
00:02:04.560 unspeakable violence against innocent civilians. Since then, there has been a disturbing rise of
00:02:12.080 anti-Semitism that is making people feel unsafe in their schools, their workplaces, and their communities.
00:02:19.600 We've seen unacceptable, hateful acts that no parent should have to explain to their kids,
00:02:25.280 and that no rabbi should have to explain to their congregation. I want to be clear. Our government stands
00:02:32.640 with you. We will never accept any form of anti-Semitism or hatred, and we will always speak
00:02:40.320 up for Israel's right to exist and right to defend itself. The story of Hanukkah is a reminder that
00:02:48.000 light shines brighter than darkness, and right always prevails over wrong. It's also a reminder of the
00:02:55.920 resilience of the Jewish people who have persevered through periods of unfathomable difficulty before.
00:03:04.000 Canada will continue to stand with Israel and with Jewish communities around the world as we
00:03:09.360 persevere through this as well. I hope that the lessons of Hanukkah and the glowing light of the
00:03:16.000 menorah bring you hope during this difficult time. I also hope you can find comfort and peace as you
00:03:24.000 celebrate your traditions, whether you're watching the kids play with dreidels, frying latkes, and
00:03:30.720 eating sufganyot together, or listening to the heroic story of the Maccabees. And as we begin the new
00:03:37.920 year, I want you to know that we will continue to stand with you. Chag Hanukkah Sameach. At around the
00:03:44.400 exact same time as Trudeau and Freeland were on Parliament Hill with Jewish Canadians showing their support,
00:03:49.680 Trudeau's very unserious foreign affairs minister, Melanie Jolie, was over at the CBC doing an
00:03:54.560 interview where she announced or introduced a bizarre new initiative that seemed to undermine
00:03:59.680 Canada's support for Israel and its right to defend itself. So in this interview with the CBC, Melanie
00:04:04.160 Jolie said that her government will eventually support an accountability system to investigate
00:04:08.880 Israel's military conduct during its war against Hamas. But interestingly, in this interview,
00:04:13.920 when asked about the ceasefire resolution at the United Nations, Jolie says she's still looking at
00:04:18.800 different versions of the expected resolution, and that basically they hadn't decided how they
00:04:23.120 were going to vote. So that was Monday evening. Jolie really showed no intention that they would
00:04:26.960 support a ceasefire resolution at the United Nations. But then Tuesday morning came Tuesday,
00:04:31.040 December 12th, and Canada decided to break its longstanding support for Israel by voting in
00:04:35.600 favor of a ceasefire at the United Nations. Now make no mistake, a call for a ceasefire is support
00:04:40.720 for Hamas. It's a call for Israel to stop fighting against Hamas, to allow Hamas to live another day, 0.76
00:04:46.080 to survive, to regroup. It's basically calling just for Israel to lay down its arms, 0.65
00:04:50.640 knowing full well that Hamas doesn't really listen to ceasefires. It doesn't really respect
00:04:54.640 ceasefires. They continue to fire rockets. They continue to wage unprovoked attacks on Jewish
00:04:59.040 civilians. We saw that during the very recent humanitarian pause when there was a massacre
00:05:04.000 at a bus stop in Jerusalem against civilians, including a pregnant woman who was murdered,
00:05:08.880 and Hamas took credit for it and Hamas celebrated it basically. So we know that a ceasefire
00:05:13.680 only really applies to Israel. It's telling Israel to stop. So why this sudden change in policy? Well,
00:05:20.000 here is Melanie Jolie explaining why the Trudeau government flip-flopped on this issue. Here's that
00:05:24.880 clip. We must recognize that what is unfolding before our eyes will only enhance the cycle of violence.
00:05:34.800 Well, this will not lead to the durable defeat of Hamas, which is necessary, 0.99
00:05:41.600 and the threat that it poses to Israel. With the future of Israelis and Palestinians in mind, 0.77
00:05:49.200 Canada is joining the international call for a humanitarian ceasefire. We have done so in a 0.90
00:05:58.160 joint statement with Australia and New Zealand earlier today, and we have done so this afternoon at the UN.
00:06:06.080 So somehow we're supposed to believe that stopping the war will help Israel defeat Hamas. Something
00:06:12.480 about cycle of violence doesn't really make a lot of sense. Let's read from the news story. This is
00:06:17.600 from CP on this issue. The headline says, Canada breaks with longstanding Israel stance at the UN
00:06:23.440 in voting for Gaza ceasefire. So Canada voted in favor of the non-binding resolution of the United
00:06:28.240 Nations on Tuesday that calls for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire between Israel and Hamas,
00:06:33.040 in a move that broke with years of Canadian policy and shocked Jewish groups. The vote at the UN
00:06:38.160 General Assembly represents a shift in Canada's longstanding position of siding with Israel
00:06:42.400 on major resolutions at the international body and arguing the Jewish state is unfairly called out
00:06:48.080 in global form. We'll continue reading from the CP story. It says, the liberals say the carnage in the
00:06:52.480 Gaza Strip led Canada to change its attack. They quote Melanie Jolie a few times from that clip that we just
00:06:57.440 played. Then it provides a bit more context about the war. Then it goes back to another quote from
00:07:01.120 Melanie Jolie. And she says, thousands of children are now orphans. Countless Palestinian civilians in
00:07:06.080 Gaza are suffering without food, water, fuel, or medicine, and their homes have been reduced to
00:07:10.560 rubble. So I'm sorry, but the fact that thousands of children are now orphans is because their fathers
00:07:15.760 were part of Hamas. They're part of Hamas. They chose to join a terrorist group. I don't quite
00:07:20.400 understand why that's Israel's fault. Same with the idea that Gazans are suffering without food, water,
00:07:25.360 fuel, or medicine. We know that Hamas steals those supplies. We know that Hamas controls all those
00:07:29.760 supplies. Why is it that Israel is getting the blame for this when it is clearly Hamas that is 0.94
00:07:34.480 doing those things? This is the kind of stuff that just makes you shake your head about the things that
00:07:38.400 Melanie Jolie says, the things that she freelances about and that she's allowed to say. She really
00:07:42.320 doesn't know what she's talking about. So, okay, literally up until hours before the vote happened,
00:07:47.120 Canada's position, Trudeau's position, whether they did not support the ceasefire. They have been saying that
00:07:51.520 throughout the war that they do not support one. They supported a humanitarian pause, but they did
00:07:55.440 not support a ceasefire. Canada supported Israel's right to defend itself, to recover those hostages,
00:08:00.480 to eliminate the terror threat on its border. It was the NDP, the left-wing NDP, and a small handful
00:08:05.680 of left-wing liberal MPs who supported a ceasefire, who independently put out that statement saying that
00:08:10.800 they wanted a ceasefire, but the Trudeau government did not. In fact, interestingly, even now after the
00:08:16.480 liberals have come out and moved their support away from Israel, some liberal MPs are publicly breaking
00:08:21.280 ranks with Trudeau, with the Liberal Party. They have made statements on social media, and let me
00:08:25.520 just emphasize that this is something that is very rarely done in Canadian politics. Party solidarity
00:08:30.080 is very strong in Canada. You very rarely see a Liberal MP breaking ranks with the Prime Minister
00:08:35.520 or a Conservative MP breaking ranks with the Conservative leader. So first we had Anthony Housefather
00:08:40.480 on Twitter. This is what he writes, in my view, any cessation of hostilities requires Hamas to release
00:08:45.680 all hostages and lay down arms and surrender. Hamas, a terrorist organization, is entirely
00:08:50.720 responsible for starting a war. I disagree with our vote at the United Nations today.
00:08:55.440 Good on Anthony Housefather to speak his mind. Likewise, we had Marco Mendicino on Twitter,
00:09:01.040 also putting out a statement, also saying this, I disagree with Canada's vote at the United Nations
00:09:05.360 today. I do not support his call for Israel to agree to what is effectively an unconditional ceasefire
00:09:11.520 at present that would only place in further jeopardy the safety and security of Israelis and
00:09:16.000 Palestinians in Gaza. So good for those Liberals to speak their mind and to remain principled.
00:09:21.840 Now oddly, after the vote, Melanie Jolie jumped back on Twitter to add a bunch more facts and a bunch
00:09:27.600 of more demands that are actually counter to what the United Nations had voted for, counter to what she
00:09:33.280 said in those stories to the Canadian press and to CBC. So she writes this,
00:09:37.760 Hostages must be released. Foreign nationals, including Canadians, must be able to leave 1.00
00:09:42.400 Gaza, and more aid must be able to enter. Hamas must lay down its weapons. Canada supports efforts
00:09:48.480 to a sustainable ceasefire, which cannot be one-sided. But none of those were conditions
00:09:54.000 to the ceasefire that she voted at at the United Nations. So in a nutshell, this is the problem with
00:09:59.360 the United Nations resolution. It only focuses on Israel. It's telling Israel to stop. It ignores the
00:10:04.880 party that wages the war, the party that endangers its civilians by fighting in plain clothes as
00:10:09.360 militant combatants in heavily dense, heavily populated civilian areas. It ignores the party
00:10:15.200 that doesn't care about ceasefires. It doesn't acknowledge ceasefires. And that, of course, is Hamas. 0.86
00:10:20.160 So Melanie Jolie, of course, was called out for her response. This is CJA, the Canadian-Israel-Jewish 0.88
00:10:25.360 Alliance. They wrote this, Empty words. You just voted for a UN resolution that intentionally and
00:10:31.280 explicitly included those considerations. Minister Melanie Jolie, you cannot have it both ways. Well,
00:10:36.720 that is exactly right. Now, many Canadians, especially Jewish Canadians, are probably now
00:10:41.200 wondering, what led to Justin Trudeau's change of part? Why did Canada suddenly shift away from
00:10:46.000 its longstanding position? Why the sudden flop? Why the sudden knife in the back to his Jewish allies? 0.90
00:10:52.240 Well, the answer is quite easy. This one article published about four days ago says it all. So here
00:10:57.600 it is in the CBC. It says, group representing Canadian Muslim donors pulls back from Liberal
00:11:02.960 Party over stance on Gaza. From the letter, it says, representing influential Canadian Muslim donors 0.66
00:11:08.960 to the Liberal Party of Canada has dropped out of the ranks of the party's top donors, citing Prime
00:11:13.200 Minister Justin Trudeau's disinclination to call for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict,
00:11:18.400 CBC News has learned. In a formal letter sent to party President Sachit Mehra on November 27th,
00:11:24.880 the group, which says it has 400 members, says that it has called on Trudeau repeatedly to request
00:11:30.480 a ceasefire. The leader does not appear to be interested in truly listening, nor interested
00:11:34.960 in giving true value to international law. With broken hearts, we must depart to the Laurier Club,
00:11:39.360 the group said. The donor club is mostly made up of Canadian Muslim professionals such as lawyers
00:11:43.600 and doctors formed in December 2014. The group helped Justin Trudeau to win his first election victory
00:11:48.800 in 2015. Well, there you go. Now we know that part of the reason that Justin Trudeau won his first
00:11:54.320 election was because this group of influential Muslims, 400 Muslim donors, who the CBC is telling
00:12:00.560 us helped him win. So that's the reason. It's just that simple. For Justin Trudeau, it is all
00:12:06.240 transactional. It is about votes. For his entire tenure as Prime Minister, since he was running for
00:12:10.880 this position in 2015, Trudeau has put the Liberal Party and its electoral interests ahead of the well-being
00:12:17.040 of Canada, ahead of our unity, ahead of our national interests. I wrote a book on this topic back in 2016.
00:12:22.480 It is called Losing True North, which became a number one bestseller. It sold tens of thousands
00:12:26.640 of copies, which is really unprecedented for a Canadian political book. But there was a lot of
00:12:31.600 interest in it and the words that I wrote are true. It is still happening. Trudeau has a deliberate
00:12:36.160 policy to change Canada's long-standing immigration tradition, orient our immigration towards intake from
00:12:42.400 the Arab and the Muslim world. And rather than making attempts to integrate and to assimilate these 1.00
00:12:48.080 new Canadians, rather than telling them to leave their tribal hatreds at home and to come to Canada
00:12:52.160 and embrace Canadian values, Trudeau has done the opposite. He's told them that they can remain
00:12:56.720 exactly as they are. He's fueled radical Islamists and he has defended them at every opportunity.
00:13:01.840 Under Justin Trudeau's tenure as Prime Minister, Canada has welcomed more than half a million Muslims
00:13:06.240 and Trudeau wants to make sure that every single one of them will forever vote for his party, will
00:13:10.960 forever vote for the Liberal Party. And that is what this is all about. Jewish activist Anthony
00:13:16.560 Cook pointed this out on Twitter last night. He says, the Liberal Party understands demographics.
00:13:21.520 They're making a choice based on a very cold and hard political reality. There are far more Muslims 1.00
00:13:26.400 in Canada than there are Jews. And as time goes on, the disparity will likely continue to grow
00:13:31.200 exponentially. That's all there is to it. I think that's right. I think it's that simple. There's just
00:13:35.520 one more element, which is why I added this tweet. I said the demographic shift didn't just happen.
00:13:39.680 It was a deliberate change in policy by the Trudeau libs. They prioritized immigration
00:13:44.320 from Arab and Muslim countries for this reason. So the demographics are going to continue to shift
00:13:50.240 in that favor, which is why eventually we knew that Trudeau was going to make this jump. Well,
00:13:53.680 it happened on December 12th. The mask has slipped and Canadians can now see the truth.
00:13:58.160 Justin Trudeau doesn't care about principle. Justin Trudeau doesn't really care about democracy or
00:14:02.480 stability in the Middle East. He doesn't really care about supporting an ally or fighting against
00:14:07.680 radicalismism and terrorism. No, he doesn't care about those things. Justin Trudeau cares about
00:14:11.600 himself and he cares about the Liberal Party of Canada winning the most votes. That's all there
00:14:16.480 is to it. I'm Candace Malcolm and this is The Candace Malcolm Show.
