i have i have a question um because you two you two are both trans so i'm curious um
00:00:07.280
when you guys transitioned how old were you i didn't even know that i guess we can't tell
00:00:12.000
trans thank you i really appreciate that what i mean i just that's like that's something that
00:00:17.120
we should have the opportunity okay all right i just figured this is what you came on the podcast
00:00:21.760
to talk about sorry i didn't mean that still you know you don't necessarily out your gay friends
00:00:26.320
okay but you can tell i didn't well i don't know if anyone i'm not i'm not trying to be rude i'm
00:00:34.320
just being honest i mean i don't think paul said anything wrong i think obviously i can understand
00:00:39.680
to why you said like you know it's your kind of position to say and tell people but then
00:00:47.120
this is i just i feel like if you have if you were a man before and now you're a female if you're a
00:00:54.080
female now you're a man do you not think that it's facts like do you not think that you know
00:00:59.920
you still i don't know it's okay to say they're still biologically male or biologically female but
00:01:06.080
if they're presenting as a woman do you want to answer the question or no what was the question
00:01:11.600
what when did you transition how old so i came out when i was 28 okay i started my medical transition
00:01:17.360
two years ago okay and what was the process the process of like like of transitioning i'm just curious
00:01:23.520
how um in the process okay you're still i don't know how it works i'm in the process okay
00:01:31.600
medically for two years okay what about you i'll start when i was 25 okay um so my question is did
00:01:39.520
they look at you guys as hormones before because i i've worked i just i'm only asking because i worked
00:01:46.080
with a doctor um and he said sometimes trans people if they think they're the opposite gender but really
00:01:52.480
it's like their hormones are really off and so i'll talk for myself i'll talk yeah so like with me
00:02:00.800
yeah like i've always been a boy like since i was a kid i've i've i've always been a little boy
00:02:08.320
and you know i'm i was born in 1988 i grew up in the 90s yeah by the time i was 18 it was like
00:02:16.800
early i can't remember now but you know whatever the timeline is but it's a different time now than
00:02:23.440
it is for then and i can only imagine for people that were born you know earlier on than me but for
00:02:29.600
me i had to pretend for a long time that i liked boys you know i mean i had to pretend that i wasn't
00:02:38.240
a boy trapped in a girl's body because of of of losing my friends people's opinions it was a lonely
00:02:48.800
time um but i've always been a boy i've never been interested in all of that stuff and my parents put
00:02:55.280
me in a girl's high school and i swear to you yeah i i i was looking far and wide for the tomboys in
00:03:02.800
my question my question is more like i'm just i'm just curious if they did anything to prevent
00:03:08.560
you from transitioning when you went to the doctor so if they said let's get your hormones checked out
00:03:12.720
first let's do therapy first or did they did they just have you transition no so like they did the
00:03:17.600
therapy so it wasn't really therapy it was like they just asked you questions and like i was never uh
00:03:24.480
i've always like cared about what people think like i've always i've always cared about what people
00:03:29.920
think you know people's opinions of me has always mattered to me and i got to the point where i was
00:03:34.640
so unhappy that i just i had to put myself first like i had to really just say like you're not happy
00:03:43.200
with your life you're not happy with how you feel about yourself people would tell me i'm pretty and
00:03:48.560
i just feel ugly like i just didn't want i did i just didn't like any of it you know i mean it was
00:03:54.960
really difficult it's it's it's and it goes back way before so i'm just curious when you went to the
00:04:00.960
doctors they they had you do therapy so they spoke to me they asked me about my my past how long i've
00:04:07.600
wanted to do this for and all of these things and and so forth but i was really i was really excited
00:04:13.440
i was like look i need to do this i'm 25 i look in the mirror i don't see a 25 year old man and i felt
00:04:20.160
crap i felt really crap you know i mean and even when i started my transition i didn't get any facial
00:04:25.680
hair for a long time i thought okay so so when you went it's important so did they did they do therapy
00:04:31.120
first i'm just asking what do they do to prevent it or do they just give you guys drugs i don't do like
00:04:36.480
they let you talk they give you an open space and they judge you based on in my opinion my experience
00:04:41.200
this was like 10 years ago but they they they ask you relevant questions and they basis base it on what
00:04:48.240
they perceive how serious you are so therapy yes or no i just want do they have you do therapy first
00:04:54.560
yes or no i i i personally wouldn't call it therapy in my opinion that's not what i would call it
00:05:00.720
wait how old were you when you started did you say you were 25 when you started me yeah yeah okay so he
00:05:07.280
wasn't a kid anyway right i'm not saying they should or they shouldn't i'm just asking okay so yes no okay
00:05:13.600
or sorry yes no but but they what they probably gave me the same thing how long did you do therapy
00:05:19.040
for i had 20 sessions of therapy i had 20 sessions of therapy that's like over what three months and
00:05:24.080
then four months over longer than that okay um and then um yeah like i there was quite a rigorous um
00:05:33.520
like a discussion like couple discussions with um psychologists um you know like it was i was 28
00:05:43.280
eight when i went to my gp about it um i was 32 or 33 uh just before i was 32 when i started hormones
00:05:53.520
i had already thought about every single possibility this is not necessarily something i actually wanted
00:05:59.040
to do to my body but this is something that actually saved my life um i like um like you i i knew
00:06:07.680
from quite young from when i was about four that i was very very different there was something that
00:06:11.600
didn't connect um i tried to ignore that i tried to absolutely eradicate that from my being especially
00:06:18.640
as it was always said to me so negatively oh you want to be a boy in it or all of this it was always
00:06:24.480
extremely negative connotations so i really tried to and that was from being young there was there was
00:06:28.960
like we you know they were they were transgender people within my community when i was a kid in south
00:06:33.120
london okay so but you did roughly six months a year of therapy yeah okay which one six months or a year
00:06:40.080
just over six months okay six months of therapy and then did they check you guys as hormones first
00:06:45.120
they checked mine they checked they didn't want so did you have like low high testosterone like what
00:06:49.680
to be honest i don't know i didn't ask okay because i i just imagined that would be something they'd go
00:06:55.520
through with you if they're checking it possible i mean to be honest you don't remember no i got adhd as well
00:07:00.720
so okay what about you they check your hormones they do yeah yeah yeah they check my they check
00:07:08.240
my hormones and stuff but i can't remember what the results was i will say there is more to it than
00:07:13.600
just having abnormally high i am an owner of abnormally high testosterone i take two anti-androgens
00:07:21.840
um myself because i have polycystic ovary syndrome um insulin resistance is high um these medications
00:07:30.240
have stopped me from experiences and some of the medications would be the same as what a trans
00:07:35.280
woman would take um so i do think that being a trans woman there's more to it than just having high
00:07:41.360
a lot of women just have high testosterone especially if you're doing sports and stuff right no no that's
00:07:45.680
true um sports does raise your um testosterone but but i i just worked with a doctor he said he's
00:07:51.680
been doing it for 20 years i do think it's good to get your yeah no i'm just wondering if they do that
00:07:56.000
first i'm gonna do super chats for a second and then we'll go on to the next questions um these are
