00:00:00.800 Cluster B Capture Collapse Theory. How Institutions are Captured, Subverted, and Destroyed by Abusive Actors.
00:00:09.060 Please visit my Medium article for all of the links, which are not provided, in this audio version.
00:00:18.440 I'd like to present a phenomenon I see occurring across multiple institutions in our present social milieu.
00:00:23.720 You can guess the broad strokes from the title.
00:00:26.340 It involves Cluster Bs, psychopaths, narcissists, histrionics, and borderlines, capturing various institutions, and then driving them to collapse.
00:00:37.840 Add in some nuance, and by the end I hope to have provided an explanation of the what and why of our present apocalypse.
00:00:45.960 Too strong of a word?
00:00:48.160 Apocalypse is just the Greek word for the Great Revealing.
00:00:52.380 Take a look around you, as the tide goes out, and you'll find out who's not wearing pants.
00:00:58.300 My hope is that this analysis will bolster your hearts.
00:01:01.100 We still have a dark winter ahead of us, but the revelation that our leaders are corrupt and incompetent is ultimately for the good.
00:01:07.900 They have been playing their games covertly for years, leading to the growing subculture of people questioning the narrative.
00:01:13.560 These days, it's growing increasingly overt, and the cracks in the edifice are starting to show.
00:01:18.700 To quote my colleague, Quintus Cordelius,
00:01:22.420 This should make you happy.
00:01:24.420 The great leveling is happening.
00:01:26.420 It means that any man who can prove his mettle can make something of himself.
00:01:30.800 You only need character, a soul, and an undying hatred of moral corruption.
00:01:35.900 You don't need money, luxury goods, or multiple passports.
00:01:40.440 End quote.
00:01:40.900 There has, of course, been a lot of cross-pollination, which helped lead me to these ideas.
00:01:48.580 I'll be providing links to noteworthy examples throughout this piece.
00:01:51.840 For now, let's begin by discussing what exactly a Cluster B personality disorder actually is.
00:01:58.620 The Cluster B, a Predator in a Skin Suit
00:02:02.100 It needs to be emphasized that a personality disorder is not the same thing as a mental disorder.
00:02:09.140 The former is a distinct subset of the latter.
00:02:12.920 Mental disorders cover a wide variety of mental ailments.
00:02:16.060 Generalized depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, oppositional defiant disorder.
00:02:20.800 We all suffer periods of poor mental health,
00:02:22.840 and while these may occasionally cause the sufferer to act out in an antisocial manner,
00:02:27.640 they're curable ailments, which are deserving of sympathy.
00:02:30.320 When we discuss personality disorders,
00:02:33.440 we are not talking about your friend who is going through a rough breakup,
00:02:37.080 or who's snapping at people because they're overworked.
00:02:40.120 Personality disorders are a subset of innate and maladaptive patterns of cognition.
00:02:45.420 Cluster A includes the eccentric disorders,
00:02:48.300 paranoid, schizoid, and schizotypal.
00:02:51.160 People diagnosed with these are no more dangerous than anybody else,
00:02:54.320 though they may have trouble with normal human interactions.
00:02:56.840 For instance, think of the character Dale Dribble from King of the Hill.
00:03:01.460 A paranoid, obviously.
00:03:03.360 For schizotypal, I can think of no better example than the artist David Firth.
00:03:07.760 I have no idea if he's been diagnosed as such,
00:03:10.200 but his artwork has a distinctly schizotypal flavor to it.
00:03:14.260 As for schizoid, think of the weaponized autism of 4chan.
00:03:18.800 It's not actually autism.
00:03:20.680 Or Nikola Tesla.
00:03:21.560 What you should note is that all of these individuals cogitate in distinctly erratic manners from the general population,
00:03:29.300 but that doesn't mean that they're necessarily wrong in what they see,
00:03:32.860 or that they want to be fixed.
00:03:35.140 The Cluster A's might be maladaptive in a generalized sense,
00:03:38.560 but they also seem to fill an evolutionary niche.
00:03:41.700 They're humanity's mad geniuses, or prophets and shamans,
00:03:45.360 helping the neurotypicals break out of a toxic heuristic.
00:03:50.560 Cluster C's are the anxious or fearful disorders.
00:03:54.040 They include avoidant, dependent, and obsessive-compulsive.
00:03:57.940 While their behavior is pervasive and maladaptive,
00:04:00.640 unlike the Cluster A's, they will generally seek out treatment.
00:04:03.920 These disorders are often instilled by an abusive childhood,
00:04:06.900 and while they harm the sufferer,
00:04:08.600 they don't generally lead to antisocial or abusive actions.
00:04:12.780 Cluster C's are very deserving of sympathy,
00:04:15.360 and therapy can often prove effective.
00:04:18.520 Finally, we have the Cluster B's.
00:04:21.620 They are the Narcissist, the Psychopath, the Histrionic, and the Borderline.
00:04:27.140 In the past, I've compared them to broken versions of the four classical humors.
00:04:31.640 The Narcissist is a broken sanguine.
00:04:34.400 Instead of being cheerful and gregarious, if insincere,
00:04:37.440 he instead spins endless lies and recruits a cult following to believe them.
00:04:42.860 The Psychopath is a broken choleric.
00:04:45.360 Instead of being ordered and exacting, if a bit bossy,
00:04:49.140 he's instead an endless manipulator.
00:04:51.620 The Histrionic is a broken phlegmatic.
00:04:54.840 Instead of being a stable supporting element,
00:04:57.260 though sometimes a little too nice,
00:04:59.520 she subtly starts fights between those around her,
00:05:03.340 always the eye of the storm.
00:05:04.640 The Borderline is a broken melancholic.
00:05:07.420 Rather than being the private and gentle artist who sometimes takes herself too seriously,
00:05:14.420 she's the eternal victim who demands endless affect.
00:05:18.000 Positive, negative, it doesn't matter.
00:05:20.320 It's impossible to overstate how dangerous these people are.
00:05:25.100 In his book, People of the Lie, The Hope for Healing Human Evil,
00:05:30.020 psychologist M. Scott Peck relates how he went from atheist to Catholic
00:05:33.980 as a response to his study of cluster bees.
00:05:37.080 The depth of evil he observed required a supernatural explanation.
00:05:42.720 I myself began studying these people in depth over a decade ago
00:05:45.980 after suffering physical, sexual, and legal abuse at the hands of a Borderline,
00:05:50.580 and was likewise influenced in the direction of religion.
00:05:53.920 While there's no scientific definition of the human soul,
00:05:57.300 in most people there exists a spark which seeks out the good,
00:06:01.500 the beautiful, and the true,
00:06:03.660 even if they don't go about it in the right manner.
00:06:06.540 With cluster bees, this seems to be wholly absent.
00:06:09.660 Their behavior matches that of a sentient piece of clockwork
00:06:13.100 which is devoted to the ugly, the profane, and the cruel.
00:06:19.200 But nonetheless, it is a piece of clockwork made out of the pieces of a human psyche.
00:06:23.920 So we can make some useful statements about these people
00:06:26.320 whether or not they actually qualify for the label of human.
00:06:31.420 Let us consider the argument that the four types
00:06:33.940 are just different versions of the same thing.
00:06:37.640 In considering cluster A and C, this seems to make sense.
00:06:41.760 Those two clusters seem to involve a core type manifesting in different manners.
00:06:46.960 So it would make sense that we'd see this in cluster B as well.
00:06:51.360 And if my theory about their correlation to the four humors is correct,
00:06:55.040 then the only true differences are relative in nature.
00:06:59.260 The narcissist is more extroverted than the histrionic,
00:07:02.460 and the psychopath is more process-focused than the borderline.
00:07:06.200 But these differences only matter based upon the social milieu they find themselves in.
00:07:11.320 The kid who's considered introverted by the drama club
00:07:14.000 might be the charismatic leader of the chess club.
00:07:17.520 Fundamentally, there's a single cogitative mechanism underlying all of them.
00:07:21.820 And if they're all the same,
00:07:24.740 then let's consider how each one manifests in a cogitative disorder.
00:07:29.460 The narcissist is typically viewed as having high self-regard.
00:07:33.440 But this is more than the arrogance of a regular person
00:07:36.020 who might behave with an annoying sense of entitlement.
00:07:39.700 The narcissist feels that they have a right to everything on the earth.
00:07:43.040 Attention, money, sex.
00:07:44.880 And while they may have to engage in social manipulations to achieve these ends,
00:07:49.680 they're not actually obligated to exchange value for value in any deeper sense.
00:07:55.300 The psychopath endlessly manipulates.
00:07:58.640 Apparently for their own gain.
00:08:00.880 If they're stupid, they'll become a robber and a rapist.
00:08:04.220 If they're smart, they'll become a CEO who bankrupts the company just because he can.
00:08:08.960 But unlike your normal person, who can often be manipulative for the sake of achieving their own ends,
00:08:14.540 the psychopath manipulates for the sake of manipulating.
00:08:18.700 The histrionic gossips.
00:08:20.740 Spreads rumors designed to frustrate and insult those around her
00:08:24.180 while laying the blame at the feet of somebody else.
00:08:27.100 She creates storms of instability and harm.
00:08:30.800 While the borderline demands endless attention,
00:08:33.680 acting like a sex goddess at times,
00:08:35.360 and constructing persecution narratives at others,
00:08:38.180 all for the sake of affect.
00:08:39.900 Any affect.
00:08:41.120 She is entitled to your attention,
00:08:42.880 no matter that it's 3 a.m. and you have work tomorrow.
00:08:47.400 Cluster Bs use normal human tools for achieving ends,
00:08:50.700 but in a deeply pathological manner,
00:08:53.060 which fails to achieve any ends that would make sense to a normal person.
00:08:57.360 This, incidentally, is why they're considered personality disorders.
00:09:01.500 Because ultimately, their actions are maladaptive,
00:09:04.040 self-destructive.
00:09:05.860 While normal human evil is a maladaptive pursuit of something good through illicit means,
00:09:11.680 the Cluster B pursues destruction through illicit means.
00:09:15.920 This is why they often go unnoticed.
00:09:18.440 Why would a man who has everything embezzle from his own company?
00:09:22.740 Why would a devoted mother murder her own children?
00:09:26.160 Why would a famous rock star lie about what sort of car he drives?
00:09:29.860 If they're a Cluster B, they do it because they can.
00:09:34.780 The difference between a psychopath and a manipulative jerk
00:09:37.980 is that the manipulative jerk will trick you so that he wins.
00:09:42.520 The psychopath will keep playing psycho chess games even after he's won,
00:09:48.920 and ultimately this will be his undoing.
00:09:51.600 These people succeed when regular people fail to believe that evil exists.
00:09:56.180 But eventually, their actions force this realization.
00:10:00.660 And with the scales fallen from their eyes,
00:10:02.680 they see them for what they are,
00:10:04.360 and all of their clever tricks stop working.
00:10:09.000 Cluster B cults and recruitment
00:10:11.280 Most Cluster Bs seem to be lone wolf operators,
00:10:16.640 individuals who pop into your life and do everything they can to wreck it
00:10:20.280 before finally being ejected and forced to move on to a new target.
00:10:23.880 But there are times when they pack together,
00:10:27.740 forming cults or taking over existing institutions,
00:10:31.420 and it's worth considering how this occurs.
00:10:34.540 I forewarn that this portion of my essay is going to be somewhat speculative.
00:10:38.920 By its very nature, a Cluster B cult is going to be occult.
00:10:43.660 People of the lie do not thrive in sunlight,
00:10:45.920 and while we have documented cases of Cluster B cults,
00:10:50.180 the recent exposure of the Navixim cult, for example,
00:10:54.440 not sure how to pronounce that,
00:10:56.800 the documentation is mostly limited to first-hand accounts
00:11:01.020 coming from people who've been heavily manipulated and abused,
00:11:04.980 and may not have noticed which manipulation techniques were being applied to them.
00:11:08.820 We don't have something like a sales training manual,
00:11:11.740 which explicitly lays out the process for detailed scrutiny.
00:11:16.200 And further complicating matters is that we likely have a sampling bias
00:11:20.300 towards cults which engage in some sort of sexual deviancy.
00:11:25.320 Rape triggers our apprehension and disgust,
00:11:28.600 and is thus more likely to be prosecuted
00:11:31.120 than a cult which relies entirely upon mental abuse.
00:11:34.540 Cluster Bs don't seem to be as appetitive as your typical brute,
00:11:40.900 forcing himself upon his prom date and a drunken lust.
00:11:44.480 Cluster Bs primarily use sex instrumentally.
00:11:48.460 So keep that in mind.
00:11:49.820 While sex is a particularly useful tool for destabilizing an innocent person,
00:11:54.420 it is not the only tool.
00:11:56.980 As stated, Cluster Bs typically only seek out victims.
00:12:00.400 They don't usually rise above the level of abusive spouse,
00:12:04.520 manipulative liar, or serial killer.
00:12:07.300 But every so often, they begin to flock.
00:12:09.960 As far as I can tell, they're motivated by something like boredom.
00:12:13.500 Bored of merely toying with one victim,
00:12:15.920 they seek to network with other manipulators.
00:12:19.080 To sharpen their skills,
00:12:20.500 to have somebody to show off to,
00:12:22.680 ambition.
00:12:23.960 I can't properly explain what their ends are with this behavior.
00:12:28.680 But nonetheless, it seems to happen.
00:12:30.400 Cluster B recruitment seems to happen most often in a college setting.
00:12:36.320 A good location to find bright, young, vulnerable minds.
00:12:39.820 They use the same sort of subtle hints and queries
00:12:42.120 which homosexuals used in previous eras to find one another.
00:12:45.740 Only instead of sexual interest,
00:12:47.840 the question they're asking is,
00:12:49.800 do you want to manipulate somebody with me
00:12:51.760 and delight in crushing their soul?
00:12:53.520 The artist Miles W. Mathis
00:12:57.400 presented an odd story from his college days
00:13:00.020 where an upperclassman from another school
00:13:02.440 approached him and his friends
00:13:04.140 and invited them to a house party at the next town over.
00:13:07.680 Notable is how he initially suspected the other student
00:13:10.440 of having a homosexual interest in him,
00:13:14.360 only to immediately dismiss the notion
00:13:16.100 upon a closer examination of his body language.
00:13:19.060 He wanted something, but what?
00:13:22.160 So he attended the party,
00:13:23.900 was plied with beautiful women,
00:13:25.560 and provided with a king-size bed to sleep in.
00:13:28.440 Thankfully, he says,
00:13:29.480 none of the women followed him upstairs,
00:13:30.840 even though normally that's the goal of college partying.
00:13:34.140 There was something off about the entire evening,
00:13:36.280 and he was thankful to never hear from the student again.
00:13:40.000 I shared that story with a friend of mine,
00:13:42.080 and it triggered a memory from his own college days.
00:13:45.060 One day he was approached by an older male student,
00:13:47.660 who also showed an odd interest in him
00:13:49.820 which he initially mistook for being sexual.
00:13:53.900 Like Mathis, he was quickly convinced otherwise,
00:13:56.400 and the student and the student's girlfriend
00:13:58.300 wound up treating my friend to a dinner
00:14:00.500 at an expensive restaurant,
00:14:02.040 and then started asking him
00:14:03.220 if he were interested in mind control.
00:14:06.540 My friend asserted that he didn't believe
00:14:08.140 such a thing to be possible,
00:14:09.640 that human volition could not be subverted.
00:14:12.520 The strange student offered to show him an example
00:14:14.720 of how he could mind control the waitress,
00:14:17.500 but my friend was unimpressed with the proposal
00:14:19.700 and declined.
00:14:21.060 Like Mathis, he never heard from the strange student again.
00:14:26.360 Cluster B, Superpowers.
00:14:28.660 The Cluster B my friend ran into is hardly an anomaly.
00:14:34.720 These people tend to think very highly of themselves
00:14:37.240 and their ability to mind control other people,
00:14:40.720 or to influence real world events through magic.
00:14:44.200 I once had encounters with a Wiccan coven
00:14:46.320 who were convinced of this.
00:14:48.140 In retrospect, though I never met the leader,
00:14:50.340 the behaviors of their followers made it a near certainty
00:14:53.680 that they were a Cluster B cult.
00:14:56.920 In popular culture, they have a reputation
00:14:58.840 for being manipulative geniuses,
00:15:01.100 such as Hannibal Lecter,
00:15:02.720 and then there are the cases of some,
00:15:04.520 like Jeffrey Dahmer,
00:15:05.660 who were reportedly transforming into monsters,
00:15:09.420 into a monster during his assaults.
00:15:11.600 In reality, these superpowers
00:15:13.140 are utterly banal manipulation tactics,
00:15:17.260 which are ultimately destructive.
00:15:19.480 They're a double-edged blade without a handle,
00:15:21.720 which winds up harming both user and victim.
00:15:25.600 As a brief aside,
00:15:27.860 none of this is to state that the supernatural doesn't exist.
00:15:30.560 It most certainly does.
00:15:31.880 But it works along similar lines.
00:15:34.180 It doesn't grant superpowers to witches or psychopaths.
00:15:37.980 They merely cheat others out of things
00:15:40.060 that are rightfully theirs.
00:15:41.700 God is in control of reality, not the devil.
00:15:44.600 The devil has to play by his rules,
00:15:46.740 even when he's trying to bend them.
00:15:50.000 To illustrate why,
00:15:51.280 let's start out by discussing the light side
00:15:53.980 of manipulation tactics.
00:15:56.900 Despite the pejorative connotations,
00:15:59.560 there's nothing inherently evil
00:16:01.340 about manipulation or rhetoric.
00:16:04.060 So long as it's founded upon a solid basis
00:16:06.200 of facts and reason,
00:16:08.180 manipulation is nothing more than using tactics
00:16:10.820 and strategies in your communication
00:16:12.460 which are effective at convincing your audience.
00:16:15.620 Whether we're talking about sales,
00:16:17.640 flirtation, or philosophical debate,
00:16:20.520 the skilled locateur
00:16:21.800 will use their speaking skills
00:16:23.900 to draw out information from the target,
00:16:26.660 what their interests, opinions, and desires are,
00:16:29.580 and then present their thesis
00:16:31.540 in a manner which simultaneously satisfies the target
00:16:34.680 while also entertaining them.
00:16:37.260 Good sales leads to satisfied customers.
00:16:40.600 Good flirtation to passionate romance.
00:16:43.380 Good argument to education.
00:16:46.220 But like any skill,
00:16:47.360 it can be used for good or ill.
00:16:49.720 Thus, we associate the term manipulation
00:16:51.960 not with the character of the talented diplomat,
00:16:54.860 but rather the used car salesman,
00:16:57.320 the pickup artist,
00:16:58.480 and the shill,
00:16:59.720 people who use their talents at location
00:17:01.740 to trick you into buying a shoddy product.
00:17:05.880 But all of these characters,
00:17:07.480 despite their disrepute,
00:17:08.880 are nonetheless human.
00:17:10.880 The salesman just wants to make a buck,
00:17:12.840 the pickup artist wants to get laid,
00:17:15.760 and the shill wants paying followers for his ideology.
00:17:19.500 Caveat emptor and all that.
00:17:22.120 Nobody would describe a scam artist
00:17:23.720 as having superpowers.
00:17:25.460 They're just lying to get ahead.
00:17:27.440 With cluster bees,
00:17:28.660 it's the same thing.
00:17:30.320 Nothing but cheap lies and appeal to emotion,
00:17:33.080 but they take these tactics
00:17:34.380 to such an extreme degree
00:17:36.380 that they become a difference in kind.
00:17:39.080 One tactic they use
00:17:42.640 is the abuse of language.
00:17:44.900 During normal conversation,
00:17:46.340 it is often necessary for us to define our terms.
00:17:49.340 For instance,
00:17:50.340 if someone says,
00:17:51.560 the truck is powerful,
00:17:53.480 do they mean acceleration or towing capacity?
00:17:56.460 People who are trying to genuinely communicate
00:17:58.540 with one another
00:17:59.160 will often devote a large part of the conversation
00:18:01.780 to defining precisely
00:18:03.460 what the important words mean.
00:18:05.500 In the case of the flim-flam man,
00:18:08.040 they'll outright lie.
00:18:09.400 Or allow you to misinterpret what they're saying.
00:18:12.240 But cluster bees,
00:18:13.680 people of the lie,
00:18:14.820 as Dr. Peck calls them,
00:18:16.820 like to wage an all-out war on language itself,
00:18:20.400 constantly introducing new words for old ideas,
00:18:23.540 or flipping the definition of common terms
00:18:25.640 into the polar opposite
00:18:26.860 of what most people think they mean.
00:18:30.420 A prominent example from recent history
00:18:33.020 were the campaigns of political correctness.
00:18:36.360 Words such as retard and moron
00:18:39.520 had precise scientific definitions.
00:18:43.720 They were used to communicate vital information
00:18:46.180 about childhood development
00:18:47.540 and the intellectual capacity
00:18:49.360 of vulnerable groups within society.
00:18:51.820 Then, political correctness introduced new terms
00:18:57.480 which failed to communicate
00:18:59.020 the same degree of information.
00:19:01.140 E.g., differently abled
00:19:03.300 doesn't tell you if it's a physical impairment
00:19:05.640 or a mental impairment
00:19:07.000 that the individual might need help with.
00:19:09.980 While simultaneously labeling anybody
00:19:12.500 who used the old term
00:19:13.600 as a villain who wanted to harm
00:19:15.480 those who lacked capacity.
00:19:17.920 While political correctness
00:19:19.100 is no longer an active campaign,
00:19:21.140 these tricks are still being pulled.
00:19:23.380 Fashionable redefinitions
00:19:24.840 and relabelings of popular words
00:19:26.840 with precise meanings
00:19:28.260 only serves to confuse
00:19:29.840 and abuse the population at large.
00:19:32.640 Use this new word that we just made up
00:19:34.740 or else you're stupid, ignorant,
00:19:36.640 and maybe evil.
00:19:38.480 Constantly having to learn new terms
00:19:40.160 for ideas or objects
00:19:41.760 which haven't changed
00:19:42.880 is a form of gaslighting.
00:19:46.740 Another way cluster bees will abuse language
00:19:48.660 is by flipping the terms upside down.
00:19:51.760 Three examples of this
00:19:53.100 would be the words
00:19:54.020 liberation, empowerment, and racism.
00:19:58.960 To most people,
00:20:00.680 the word liberation
00:20:01.860 means the freedom
00:20:03.540 to make your own choices in life.
00:20:06.720 Empowerment means having the support in place
00:20:09.720 so that you're not forced
00:20:10.940 into desperate choices.
00:20:13.240 And racism
00:20:14.200 is just a particular form of bigotry
00:20:16.940 focused upon race.
00:20:19.540 The neo-Marxist critical theory crowd
00:20:22.340 means the exact opposite
00:20:24.480 of these common definitions
00:20:25.820 when they speak about these things.
00:20:28.280 For them,
00:20:29.340 liberation means that you are liberated
00:20:31.600 from all cultural oppression.
00:20:34.560 That is,
00:20:35.440 you have no legal system ruling over you,
00:20:38.260 no language,
00:20:39.180 no philosophy of reason,
00:20:41.360 you have been liberated
00:20:42.760 from all the social technologies
00:20:44.620 which,
00:20:45.440 according to a normal person,
00:20:47.100 provide the agency you need
00:20:48.500 to actually be liberated.
00:20:51.260 Empowerment,
00:20:52.040 likewise,
00:20:52.520 means the opposite.
00:20:53.940 An empowered woman
00:20:54.940 isn't someone with the agency
00:20:56.760 to choose from multiple career paths.
00:20:59.320 Rather,
00:21:00.040 it's a woman
00:21:00.560 who's beholden
00:21:01.420 to affirmative action
00:21:02.460 or a welfare system
00:21:03.880 and who is forced
00:21:04.900 to pay lip service
00:21:05.860 to the party line
00:21:06.840 or else lose their income.
00:21:08.900 As for racism,
00:21:10.500 that's nothing more than power
00:21:11.860 plus privilege.
00:21:13.400 It's the bigoted statement
00:21:14.560 that if you're white,
00:21:16.500 you have both power and privilege,
00:21:18.500 ergo,
00:21:19.160 you are racist.
00:21:21.100 War is peace,
00:21:22.280 freedom is slavery,
00:21:23.600 ignorance is strength.
00:21:24.400 Another tactic cluster bees
00:21:27.940 will use
00:21:28.520 is the inducement
00:21:29.560 of neuroses.
00:21:31.100 While the rhetorician
00:21:32.440 will ask the question,
00:21:34.120 what do you want?
00:21:35.000 Is there a way
00:21:35.680 I can help satisfy
00:21:36.700 your desires?
00:21:38.360 The cluster bee
00:21:39.240 will instead chip away
00:21:40.300 at your self-image,
00:21:41.580 breaking your legs
00:21:42.420 so that they can sell you
00:21:43.780 a crutch.
00:21:45.000 This is a major tactic
00:21:46.300 used throughout
00:21:47.200 the advertising world,
00:21:48.820 one developed
00:21:50.880 by Edward Bernays.
00:21:53.740 Unlike his uncle
00:21:54.480 Sigmund Freud,
00:21:55.300 who applied his knowledge
00:21:56.420 of the human psyche
00:21:57.520 to try and help people
00:21:58.700 become stronger,
00:22:00.200 Bernays used his knowledge
00:22:01.420 to tear people down.
00:22:03.380 Each of us
00:22:04.040 is prone
00:22:04.600 to some universal concerns,
00:22:06.720 fear of death,
00:22:07.620 fear of loneliness,
00:22:08.700 fear of being a bad parent,
00:22:10.200 et cetera.
00:22:11.880 Building off
00:22:12.460 of Freud's insights,
00:22:13.920 Bernays found ways
00:22:14.860 of inducing these fears
00:22:16.240 subconsciously.
00:22:17.240 An image
00:22:18.580 whose background elements
00:22:20.180 are suggestive of a skull
00:22:21.960 to induce existential dread.
00:22:24.680 Or carefully arranged
00:22:26.120 NLP wording
00:22:27.260 to emphasize abandonment.
00:22:30.280 This inducement of terror
00:22:32.180 would then make the audience
00:22:33.800 more receptive
00:22:34.620 to the benefits
00:22:35.540 promised by the product.
00:22:37.720 You're gonna die one day!
00:22:39.380 Better buy this candy bar
00:22:41.000 to feel good!
00:22:43.220 On the surface,
00:22:44.480 this might sound ridiculous,
00:22:45.380 but it's a theory
00:22:47.240 that stood the test of time.
00:22:49.360 The trick
00:22:49.700 is doing it subtly.
00:22:51.200 Comedians frequently
00:22:52.100 lampoon this toxic behavior.
00:22:54.560 Family Guy featured
00:22:55.660 subliminal cigarette commercials,
00:22:58.440 which were nothing more
00:22:59.140 than an angry man
00:23:00.000 yelling at the audience
00:23:00.900 to smoke.
00:23:02.220 The aforementioned
00:23:03.440 David Firth's short film,
00:23:05.660 Health Reminder,
00:23:07.240 included an ad
00:23:08.160 from Big Pharma
00:23:09.100 which bluntly told the viewer,
00:23:10.840 you are ill.
00:23:14.340 Real world examples
00:23:15.360 are as immediately obvious
00:23:17.040 and often come with
00:23:17.960 the helping of plausible
00:23:19.080 deniability.
00:23:20.740 As with the last example,
00:23:21.920 let's dig into recent history
00:23:23.240 for an example.
00:23:25.820 Shortly after the 9-11
00:23:27.340 terror attacks,
00:23:28.600 the George Bush regime
00:23:29.840 instituted a color-coded
00:23:31.480 advisory system
00:23:33.120 to inform the public
00:23:34.660 of the current terror level.
00:23:36.420 What exactly was
00:23:39.300 the purpose of this?
00:23:41.220 What was accomplished
00:23:42.340 by informing the public
00:23:44.000 that America
00:23:44.900 is on orange alert this week
00:23:46.980 or blue alert
00:23:48.060 another week?
00:23:49.860 It's not as if
00:23:50.940 the general public
00:23:51.700 can prepare
00:23:52.380 for a terror attack
00:23:53.480 the way one might prepare
00:23:54.880 for a tropical storm.
00:23:56.820 The reason
00:23:57.820 the advisory system
00:23:58.960 was implemented
00:23:59.660 was to induce
00:24:01.060 fear in the public.
00:24:03.000 The government claimed
00:24:03.740 it was providing
00:24:04.820 a service
00:24:05.620 to keep you informed
00:24:06.960 while in reality
00:24:08.740 these warnings
00:24:09.800 made people neurotic
00:24:11.600 thus preventing them
00:24:13.060 from questioning
00:24:13.740 the legality
00:24:14.640 of the wars
00:24:15.300 being started.
00:24:18.140 Again,
00:24:18.820 this is subtly different
00:24:19.720 from what a normal human does.
00:24:21.720 The ad man says,
00:24:23.300 Hey, buddy,
00:24:24.480 you want the ladies
00:24:25.260 to like you,
00:24:25.780 don't you?
00:24:26.620 Why not buy my blue jeans?
00:24:29.280 The cluster B says,
00:24:31.820 Your dog's going to die.
00:24:33.940 Buy this suit
00:24:34.780 to ward off death.
00:24:38.800 Finally,
00:24:39.480 there's one more
00:24:40.020 manipulation tactic
00:24:41.260 that cluster B's use
00:24:42.980 known as splitting.
00:24:45.340 This one is particularly
00:24:46.940 present in the borderlines,
00:24:49.200 but all of them use it
00:24:50.080 to one degree or another.
00:24:52.280 Splitting is when
00:24:53.240 they categorize everything
00:24:54.620 into black or white thinking.
00:24:57.740 Everything's all good
00:24:59.000 or it's all evil.
00:25:00.580 If you've encountered
00:25:02.340 a borderline,
00:25:03.400 it likely started off
00:25:04.680 with them praising you
00:25:05.880 as perfection manifest.
00:25:08.460 You were a hero.
00:25:09.580 You could do no wrong
00:25:10.900 until the day
00:25:12.700 you didn't do
00:25:13.220 what they wanted.
00:25:14.300 At that point,
00:25:14.920 you became a monster,
00:25:16.160 an oppressor,
00:25:17.040 an abuser.
00:25:17.600 You became the blackest
00:25:19.200 of villains in their mind,
00:25:20.740 justifying the worst
00:25:21.880 of treatments.
00:25:22.660 This is a tactic we see
00:25:25.960 throughout our
00:25:26.700 democratic political system.
00:25:28.720 And unfortunately,
00:25:29.660 I can't provide any
00:25:30.840 de-stigmatized
00:25:32.060 historical examples of it.
00:25:33.800 Even if I go back a century,
00:25:35.740 either the split is a debate
00:25:37.220 so old that nobody
00:25:38.440 remembers it,
00:25:39.260 the Scopes Monkey Trial,
00:25:40.740 or it's still part
00:25:42.660 of our national conversation
00:25:43.960 decades after it
00:25:45.480 should have become irrelevant,
00:25:47.300 Time Magazine's
00:25:48.200 1938 Man of the Year.
00:25:50.900 So,
00:25:51.520 please consider the following
00:25:52.840 dispassionately,
00:25:54.460 because the whole point
00:25:55.820 of cluster B splitting
00:25:56.860 is to force you
00:25:58.200 into choosing sides.
00:26:00.900 The most obvious example
00:26:02.640 of this is the split
00:26:04.120 of red team,
00:26:05.340 blue team itself.
00:26:06.520 As if one party
00:26:09.640 or the other
00:26:10.320 is entirely composed
00:26:11.740 of malicious demons.
00:26:13.820 Then you have
00:26:14.640 climate change
00:26:15.500 versus climate deniers.
00:26:17.380 And most recently,
00:26:18.480 pro-vax and anti-vaxers.
00:26:21.480 These are ridiculous
00:26:23.120 caricatures
00:26:23.960 of complex positions.
00:26:26.100 Anybody who forces you
00:26:27.220 to choose between
00:26:28.220 two of these
00:26:29.120 doesn't have your
00:26:30.360 best interests at heart.
00:26:32.080 They're inducting you
00:26:33.440 into a cluster B cult.
00:26:36.520 These are the superpowers
00:26:39.200 that cluster Bs
00:26:40.120 make claim to.
00:26:41.640 This is the mind control
00:26:43.220 that the strange
00:26:44.200 gentleman
00:26:44.900 promised to show
00:26:45.800 my friend.
00:26:47.360 They're shocking
00:26:48.280 in their insanity
00:26:49.080 and their pointlessness,
00:26:50.600 but there's nothing
00:26:52.000 extraordinary about them.
00:26:54.300 Quite the contrary,
00:26:55.420 they utterly lack
00:26:56.420 the divine spark
00:26:57.420 that comes with
00:26:58.320 Eureka,
00:26:59.600 that sudden flash
00:27:00.740 of insight
00:27:01.300 which we all
00:27:01.980 occasionally stumble upon,
00:27:03.460 which winds up
00:27:04.160 blessing the world
00:27:05.040 and turning it
00:27:05.740 into a better place.
00:27:07.380 The only thing unique
00:27:08.420 about these lies
00:27:09.320 is the sheer size
00:27:11.140 and extent of them.
00:27:12.920 Why would anybody
00:27:14.200 lie about something
00:27:15.240 like that?
00:27:16.720 Why indeed?
00:27:18.380 It's because these people
00:27:19.600 are insane
00:27:20.280 and we feel to see it
00:27:22.540 because we give them
00:27:23.760 the benefit of the doubt
00:27:24.760 and thus imagine
00:27:25.880 some sort of genuine motive
00:27:27.960 behind actions
00:27:29.280 whose only purpose
00:27:30.660 are profanity
00:27:31.860 and destruction.
00:27:34.660 A thief can play
00:27:35.780 a manipulation game
00:27:36.840 to distract a normal person
00:27:38.220 and then steal his wallet.
00:27:40.320 But that doesn't
00:27:41.280 make him smart.
00:27:42.700 It just makes him cunning.
00:27:44.720 The same thing goes
00:27:45.940 for cluster bees.
00:27:47.200 They're not smarter
00:27:48.100 than other people.
00:27:49.320 They're just more willing
00:27:50.540 to lie about anything
00:27:51.800 and everything
00:27:52.700 and our good nature
00:27:53.960 allows them
00:27:54.460 to get away with it.
00:27:56.100 For a while.
00:27:56.860 Systematized Cluster Bee Inducement
00:28:03.320 By this point
00:28:06.100 it should be obvious
00:28:07.080 that merely associating
00:28:08.660 with cluster bees
00:28:09.420 is bad for your mental health.
00:28:11.320 All of their tools
00:28:12.220 involve inducing
00:28:13.220 some sort of psychic harm
00:28:14.680 in their target
00:28:15.400 in order to get their way.
00:28:17.620 What's not so obvious
00:28:18.580 is what form
00:28:19.840 this mental illness takes.
00:28:21.960 Generally speaking
00:28:22.720 it results in the target
00:28:24.320 exhibiting cluster bee
00:28:25.820 behavior themselves.
00:28:28.060 This is readily apparent
00:28:29.260 in anybody
00:28:29.660 who's had a close relationship
00:28:31.020 with a cluster bee
00:28:31.800 whether it was
00:28:32.700 a parent-child relationship
00:28:34.560 a romantic partnership
00:28:36.180 or a supervisor at work.
00:28:38.680 Part of the healing process
00:28:39.880 is rejecting
00:28:40.860 those maladaptive behaviors
00:28:42.280 which have been normalized
00:28:43.640 over a period of years.
00:28:45.960 But for the purposes
00:28:46.760 of this article
00:28:47.400 we'll be discussing
00:28:48.060 the systematized inducement
00:28:50.300 of cluster bee behavior patterns
00:28:51.780 which occurs
00:28:52.760 when cluster bees get organized.
00:28:54.520 We'll be breaking these down
00:28:56.200 by the four types
00:28:57.300 of cluster bees
00:28:58.180 though of course
00:28:59.960 all of the cluster bees
00:29:01.240 overlap to some extent.
00:29:04.500 Our first example
00:29:05.720 will be something
00:29:06.400 that many of us
00:29:07.120 are far too familiar with.
00:29:09.280 The cover my ass
00:29:10.760 psychopath culture
00:29:12.060 which is evident
00:29:13.020 in corporate newspeak.
00:29:15.320 In far too many companies today
00:29:16.780 the path to advancement
00:29:18.060 is in learning the art
00:29:19.600 of cheerfully lying
00:29:20.940 through emails.
00:29:21.760 passing off blame
00:29:23.340 and making sure
00:29:24.160 the buck never stops
00:29:25.420 with you.
00:29:26.340 Treating bad news
00:29:27.340 as if it were something
00:29:28.220 everyone had been craving.
00:29:30.500 Good news everyone!
00:29:32.280 The cafeteria
00:29:32.980 has eliminated
00:29:33.760 the dessert bar!
00:29:35.100 This will help us all
00:29:36.160 achieve our fitness goals!
00:29:38.560 To be sure
00:29:39.460 not all corporations
00:29:40.520 are like this.
00:29:42.500 Corporations are just
00:29:43.540 legal fictions after all
00:29:44.760 run by human beings
00:29:46.220 and regulated by the state.
00:29:47.720 There are many
00:29:49.180 fine companies out there
00:29:50.700 who are led by visionaries
00:29:51.980 with a passion
00:29:52.700 for what they do.
00:29:54.200 Historically
00:29:54.720 we have Lamborghini
00:29:55.880 founded by
00:29:56.880 Ferruccio Lamborghini
00:29:58.080 in 1963
00:29:59.000 an Italian business magnate
00:30:01.040 who loved automobiles.
00:30:02.960 Legend has it
00:30:03.640 that he could tune
00:30:04.320 the carburetors
00:30:05.140 of his vehicles by ear.
00:30:07.440 Around that sort of passion
00:30:08.820 a corporate culture develops.
00:30:10.840 A certain style
00:30:11.680 a flair
00:30:12.320 and those who share it
00:30:13.480 will enjoy working there.
00:30:15.380 But when this leadership
00:30:16.420 is replaced by
00:30:17.500 cluster B manipulators
00:30:18.860 the integrity evaporates.
00:30:21.500 Lip service is still paid
00:30:22.820 to whatever values
00:30:23.700 the company used to have
00:30:25.060 but in practice
00:30:26.220 it's become nothing
00:30:27.240 but scheming mendacity.
00:30:29.560 And if you want
00:30:30.100 to keep your job
00:30:31.060 you'd better adopt it too.
00:30:33.880 Play at being a psychopath
00:30:34.940 for long enough
00:30:35.800 and eventually
00:30:36.800 you'll become one yourself.
00:30:41.140 Next let's consider
00:30:42.560 the induction
00:30:43.260 of narcissism.
00:30:44.460 of creating a shell
00:30:46.360 personality
00:30:47.060 that you angrily demand
00:30:48.920 that everyone believe in.
00:30:51.280 Back in 2016
00:30:52.420 a nanon on 4chan
00:30:54.020 related a story
00:30:54.760 about his time
00:30:55.440 as a consultant
00:30:56.220 and lobbyist
00:30:57.400 for the cosmetics industry.
00:30:59.620 As he relates it
00:31:00.920 their marketing department
00:31:02.220 had been hard at work
00:31:03.380 redefining beauty
00:31:04.540 as
00:31:05.360 not an ideal
00:31:07.300 to be studied
00:31:07.900 by philosophers
00:31:08.640 of aesthetics
00:31:09.640 and realized
00:31:10.660 by artists
00:31:11.320 nor
00:31:12.340 a unity
00:31:13.140 of form
00:31:13.640 and function
00:31:14.200 made manifest
00:31:15.100 in athletes
00:31:15.900 and practiced
00:31:16.600 by architects
00:31:17.320 but rather
00:31:18.740 as a commodity
00:31:20.040 one could purchase.
00:31:21.840 They made Brazil
00:31:23.080 their test case
00:31:24.020 marketing departments
00:31:25.500 will often test out
00:31:26.460 a new product
00:31:27.280 ad campaign
00:31:28.080 or strategy
00:31:28.740 on a limited market
00:31:30.140 to see if it will succeed
00:31:31.420 in the United States
00:31:32.520 and it worked better
00:31:34.460 than anyone
00:31:35.020 could have predicted.
00:31:36.840 Not only did plastic surgery
00:31:38.100 skyrocket
00:31:39.000 so did transsexualism.
00:31:42.460 It seemed that
00:31:43.040 many men
00:31:43.640 were now viewing
00:31:44.440 female beauty
00:31:45.400 not as something
00:31:46.440 that could be earned
00:31:47.420 by wooing a woman
00:31:48.460 but rather something
00:31:49.780 they could purchase
00:31:50.480 in the marketplace
00:31:51.080 and without being forced
00:31:52.680 to engage
00:31:53.240 in meaningful interaction
00:31:54.340 with another person.
00:31:56.840 Of course
00:31:57.640 this story is apocryphal.
00:31:59.880 There's no way
00:32:00.560 to verify it
00:32:01.320 as any of the
00:32:02.580 published documents
00:32:03.340 which might attest
00:32:04.280 to it
00:32:04.660 would be so immersed
00:32:05.900 in plausible deniability
00:32:07.220 and newspeak
00:32:08.440 as to render them
00:32:09.620 essentially meaningless.
00:32:11.460 But for anybody
00:32:12.040 with even a passing
00:32:12.880 understanding of marketing
00:32:14.120 or narcissism
00:32:15.260 it's a simple fact
00:32:16.900 that things like this
00:32:17.620 occur all the time.
00:32:19.400 Perhaps the Brazil story
00:32:20.540 is nothing but science fiction
00:32:21.840 but it's a science fiction story
00:32:23.660 about real marketing technologies
00:32:25.260 and how industry lobbies
00:32:26.940 will apply them
00:32:27.760 to populations as a whole.
00:32:29.000 For present purposes
00:32:31.620 let's take this story
00:32:32.600 at face value
00:32:33.380 and consider the many men
00:32:34.940 who succumb to the marketing
00:32:36.260 of beauty as consumer good.
00:32:39.020 The psychology of gender dysphoria
00:32:40.720 is complicated
00:32:41.740 and hotly contested.
00:32:43.540 There appear to be
00:32:44.080 multiple causes
00:32:44.880 multiple types
00:32:46.020 and multiple treatments
00:32:47.160 for those suffering it.
00:32:48.820 It does not suit
00:32:49.820 our present purposes
00:32:50.520 to take a stance
00:32:51.460 on a politicized
00:32:52.520 scientific matter.
00:32:54.260 Despite all the controversy
00:32:55.760 however
00:32:56.180 it is widely accepted
00:32:57.900 that one type
00:32:59.540 of gender dysphoria
00:33:00.540 is autogynephilia.
00:33:02.860 That is
00:33:03.360 the sexual fetish
00:33:04.740 for viewing one's own male body
00:33:06.620 as that of a sexualized woman.
00:33:10.020 The way this disorder
00:33:11.340 seems to come about
00:33:12.400 is that it starts
00:33:13.460 from the natural desire
00:33:14.580 to be seen
00:33:15.140 as sexually attractive.
00:33:16.740 What man hasn't admired
00:33:17.760 their biceps in the mirror
00:33:18.960 after a good workout?
00:33:20.800 But when it comes
00:33:21.600 to raw visual seduction
00:33:23.140 men don't hold
00:33:24.660 a candle to women
00:33:25.600 whom God and evolution
00:33:27.020 designed to be
00:33:27.760 painfully appealing.
00:33:29.460 The disorder begins
00:33:30.500 when the man
00:33:31.100 attempts to possess
00:33:32.040 this appeal
00:33:32.740 within himself.
00:33:34.560 When he starts desiring
00:33:35.580 not to watch strippers
00:33:37.360 or date strippers
00:33:38.860 but to become
00:33:39.920 the stripper.
00:33:41.620 It should then be
00:33:42.180 no surprise
00:33:42.780 that a marketing campaign
00:33:43.900 which says
00:33:44.540 you can purchase
00:33:46.000 feminine beauty
00:33:46.820 it's not an aspect
00:33:48.400 integral to your
00:33:49.420 help meet woman
00:33:50.220 but simply an item
00:33:51.560 which is on sale
00:33:52.300 at Walmart
00:33:52.900 might push
00:33:54.460 a nascent fetish
00:33:56.100 into a full-blown
00:33:57.940 mental disorder.
00:33:59.980 The man has now
00:34:01.220 been induced
00:34:02.140 into narcissism.
00:34:03.740 Rather than pursuing
00:34:04.520 meaningful relationships
00:34:05.760 he's devoting
00:34:07.040 his energies
00:34:07.560 into manufacturing
00:34:08.780 a facade
00:34:09.540 and he'll be choosing
00:34:10.900 his friends
00:34:11.460 based upon
00:34:12.080 who supports
00:34:12.920 this imago
00:34:14.080 while lashing out
00:34:15.440 with great hostility
00:34:16.660 at those who don't.
00:34:19.740 Next
00:34:20.380 we have
00:34:21.080 the borderline culture
00:34:22.220 of the radical left
00:34:23.640 the culture
00:34:24.640 of perpetual victimhood
00:34:26.360 and aggression.
00:34:28.140 These borderline cults
00:34:29.260 spread themselves
00:34:29.960 in two different ways.
00:34:31.640 First
00:34:31.880 they recruit those
00:34:32.960 who have been
00:34:33.400 legitimately victimized
00:34:34.840 either by an abusive
00:34:36.140 parent, spouse
00:34:37.080 or authority figure
00:34:38.060 and have thus learned
00:34:39.520 cluster B behavior patterns.
00:34:41.600 The other source
00:34:42.980 is people who belong
00:34:44.180 to groups
00:34:44.780 that have been
00:34:45.240 historically victimized
00:34:46.700 but were never
00:34:47.600 traumatized personally.
00:34:49.500 The borderline cult
00:34:50.460 then traumatizes
00:34:51.480 these individuals
00:34:52.300 with stories
00:34:53.180 from the past.
00:34:54.980 In practice
00:34:56.040 these two recruitment
00:34:57.420 strategies go hand in hand.
00:34:59.480 Note that the abuser
00:35:00.340 in question
00:35:00.760 doesn't have to belong
00:35:01.780 to the demographic
00:35:02.620 which the leftist cult
00:35:03.840 is explicitly attacking.
00:35:06.160 For instance
00:35:06.960 a terrible mother
00:35:08.320 could drive her daughter
00:35:09.540 into radical
00:35:10.220 man-hating feminism.
00:35:12.040 It's the behavior patterns
00:35:13.500 which matter
00:35:14.040 not the logic
00:35:15.940 of the abuse
00:35:16.940 or who should be blamed.
00:35:19.500 Furthermore
00:35:19.820 it should be acknowledged
00:35:20.820 that similar cults
00:35:21.920 exist on the fringe right.
00:35:23.880 The movie
00:35:24.340 American History X
00:35:25.760 provides an excellent
00:35:27.320 depiction
00:35:27.760 of how exploitative
00:35:29.100 and destructive
00:35:29.740 these cults can be.
00:35:31.320 But they don't gain access
00:35:32.940 to the same social capital
00:35:34.340 as do revolutionary movements
00:35:36.140 from the left
00:35:36.780 in today's society
00:35:37.700 so their destructive potential
00:35:39.520 is currently limited.
00:35:42.220 The major distinction
00:35:43.680 between a borderline cult
00:35:45.140 and a civil rights movement
00:35:46.800 is that the cult
00:35:48.180 can never stop.
00:35:50.360 Like the borderline
00:35:51.400 it demands
00:35:52.000 constant attention
00:35:53.240 and affirmation.
00:35:55.220 Those who demanded
00:35:56.060 civil rights
00:35:56.820 whether the movement
00:35:58.260 for black rights
00:35:59.100 in the 60s
00:35:59.900 or gun rights today
00:36:01.420 are more than happy
00:36:03.140 to go home
00:36:04.160 and stop protesting
00:36:05.380 once those rights
00:36:06.320 have been achieved.
00:36:07.700 The borderline cult
00:36:08.780 can never stop.
00:36:10.880 And so
00:36:11.260 we see the increasing
00:36:12.400 demands
00:36:13.800 of the LGBT movement.
00:36:16.920 Equal rights
00:36:17.580 marriage
00:36:18.700 adoption
00:36:19.740 hate speech laws
00:36:21.160 mandatory puberty blockers
00:36:22.840 for all children
00:36:23.640 These movements
00:36:26.260 become self-destructive
00:36:27.820 for the individual members
00:36:29.780 as well as
00:36:30.640 for the causes themselves
00:36:31.900 and
00:36:32.660 much like individual borderlines
00:36:34.940 the only treatment
00:36:36.520 is to ignore them.
00:36:37.700 For a detailed discussion
00:36:41.380 of what it's like
00:36:42.820 being in one of these
00:36:43.960 I strongly recommend
00:36:45.200 Benjamin A. Boyce's
00:36:46.820 conversation
00:36:47.420 with Josh Slocum
00:36:49.140 the latter of whom
00:36:50.540 to the best of my knowledge
00:36:51.900 coined the term
00:36:52.740 cluster B capture
00:36:53.860 and inspired me
00:36:55.140 to write this essay.
00:36:57.880 Finally
00:36:58.480 we have the cult
00:36:59.700 of histrionics
00:37:00.700 and while
00:37:02.100 you
00:37:03.180 gentle listener
00:37:04.580 have likely
00:37:06.160 had some
00:37:06.880 brushes
00:37:07.240 with all of the rest
00:37:08.300 it's a near
00:37:09.860 certainty
00:37:10.420 that you've been
00:37:11.080 induced
00:37:11.480 into one of these
00:37:12.440 cults
00:37:12.960 quite heavily
00:37:13.780 and congratulations
00:37:15.100 if you've resisted
00:37:16.160 and broken free
00:37:16.880 of the siren call
00:37:17.780 because the histrionic cult
00:37:20.240 is manufactured
00:37:21.540 by participation
00:37:22.580 in social media.
00:37:25.080 The histrionic
00:37:26.160 is the person
00:37:26.600 that loves
00:37:27.120 starting arguments
00:37:28.360 especially if they're
00:37:29.620 between other people
00:37:30.460 they enjoy
00:37:31.680 shoving cats and dogs
00:37:32.780 into a small room
00:37:33.620 and seeing them fight
00:37:34.480 their standard tactic
00:37:36.120 is the whispered
00:37:36.920 half-truth
00:37:37.560 did you know
00:37:38.840 that your brother
00:37:39.440 is angry at you
00:37:40.300 so that everyone
00:37:41.780 in their social circle
00:37:43.000 is tearing
00:37:43.680 one another apart.
00:37:46.580 Back in 2005
00:37:48.120 Randall Munro
00:37:49.600 published an
00:37:50.200 XKCD comic
00:37:51.760 titled
00:37:52.160 Duty Calls
00:37:53.280 Are you coming
00:37:54.540 to bed honey?
00:37:55.780 Not yet
00:37:56.440 someone is wrong
00:37:58.000 on the internet
00:37:58.820 this was long
00:38:01.280 before the rise
00:38:02.020 of social media
00:38:02.820 and it takes
00:38:03.460 a light-hearted jab
00:38:04.420 at our propensity
00:38:05.180 to argue
00:38:05.800 over pointless topics
00:38:07.160 with strangers
00:38:08.080 we will never meet.
00:38:09.840 But the friendly
00:38:10.680 arguments of yesteryear
00:38:12.140 are nothing
00:38:13.300 compared to the
00:38:14.040 blood sport
00:38:14.720 which exists today.
00:38:16.220 As I wrote back
00:38:17.140 in 2019
00:38:18.060 platforms like
00:38:19.500 Twitter and Facebook
00:38:20.460 are specifically
00:38:21.860 designed
00:38:22.540 to prevent
00:38:23.500 the sort of
00:38:24.160 meaningful arguments
00:38:25.120 we once had
00:38:25.880 on internet forums
00:38:26.840 and instead
00:38:27.920 replace them
00:38:28.740 with short
00:38:29.400 venomous
00:38:30.300 hate-filled
00:38:31.080 statements.
00:38:32.440 No discourse
00:38:33.220 only yelling
00:38:34.580 matches.
00:38:36.000 Turn everyone
00:38:36.720 into a spiteful
00:38:37.760 monster
00:38:38.140 who requires
00:38:38.980 the Twitter
00:38:39.420 safety council
00:38:40.300 and Facebook
00:38:41.320 fact checkers
00:38:42.260 to tell them
00:38:43.040 what they're
00:38:43.420 allowed to say.
00:38:45.300 The result
00:38:46.400 of all of this
00:38:47.100 is that rates
00:38:47.940 of cluster B's
00:38:48.940 within society
00:38:49.760 are skyrocketing.
00:38:51.280 The estimates
00:38:53.280 vary
00:38:53.780 due to the
00:38:54.840 difficulty
00:38:55.340 of definitions
00:38:56.180 and diagnostics
00:38:57.280 but overall
00:38:58.900 we're looking
00:38:59.520 at a five
00:39:00.240 to tenfold
00:39:00.960 increase.
00:39:02.660 Instead of
00:39:03.200 one out of
00:39:04.080 a hundred people
00:39:04.940 being a cluster B
00:39:05.880 it's easily
00:39:07.360 as high
00:39:07.920 as one in ten
00:39:08.900 these days
00:39:09.600 if not higher.
00:39:13.740 Frank Herbert
00:39:14.960 and the
00:39:15.940 double-edged
00:39:16.500 sword of
00:39:17.200 power.
00:39:19.720 I was
00:39:20.480 recently
00:39:20.840 linked
00:39:21.260 to a
00:39:21.640 1965
00:39:22.420 podcast
00:39:24.180 by Frank
00:39:25.400 Herbert
00:39:25.700 in which
00:39:26.520 he discussed
00:39:27.160 the origins
00:39:27.860 of his
00:39:28.200 Dune series
00:39:28.940 a series
00:39:30.020 which
00:39:30.420 as others
00:39:30.860 have noted
00:39:31.300 seems
00:39:31.720 increasingly
00:39:32.400 relevant
00:39:32.880 in our
00:39:33.320 present day.
00:39:34.940 While there
00:39:35.220 are multiple
00:39:35.580 themes
00:39:35.940 throughout
00:39:36.200 the novel
00:39:36.700 of particular
00:39:37.680 note
00:39:38.100 are his
00:39:38.540 thoughts
00:39:38.900 on psychological
00:39:39.880 weapons.
00:39:40.880 The problem
00:39:41.920 with psychological
00:39:42.940 weapons
00:39:43.420 he says
00:39:44.100 is that
00:39:45.340 they're a
00:39:45.720 double-edged
00:39:46.420 blade
00:39:46.860 with no
00:39:47.560 handle.
00:39:49.200 Any
00:39:49.400 psychological
00:39:50.000 weapon
00:39:50.520 sufficiently
00:39:51.400 capable
00:39:51.920 of destroying
00:39:52.540 the enemy
00:39:53.080 will also
00:39:54.360 destroy
00:39:55.140 the wielder.
00:39:56.880 To deploy
00:39:57.420 them
00:39:57.720 is to
00:39:58.620 destroy
00:39:59.000 yourself.
00:40:00.860 And this
00:40:01.400 is exactly
00:40:02.040 what we're
00:40:02.480 seeing with
00:40:02.920 the cluster
00:40:03.340 B
00:40:03.640 behaviors
00:40:04.360 exhibited
00:40:04.920 by so
00:40:05.500 many
00:40:05.720 of our
00:40:06.000 institutions.
00:40:07.160 Yes
00:40:07.680 they're
00:40:07.920 harming
00:40:08.180 all of
00:40:08.540 us
00:40:08.840 but
00:40:09.540 they're
00:40:09.720 also
00:40:10.060 harming
00:40:10.440 those
00:40:10.960 within
00:40:11.380 the
00:40:11.580 organizations.
00:40:13.420 In an
00:40:14.840 article
00:40:15.160 back
00:40:15.780 in
00:40:15.980 2012
00:40:16.540 my
00:40:17.280 late
00:40:17.520 friend
00:40:17.800 A4
00:40:18.240 related
00:40:18.660 a
00:40:18.860 story
00:40:19.200 similar
00:40:19.840 to
00:40:20.040 the
00:40:20.360 cosmetics
00:40:20.960 Brazilian
00:40:21.480 tale
00:40:21.900 posted
00:40:22.260 above.
00:40:23.740 A4
00:40:23.980 was
00:40:24.160 speaking
00:40:24.400 with
00:40:24.560 a
00:40:24.680 cousin
00:40:24.900 of
00:40:25.080 his
00:40:25.340 who
00:40:25.700 also
00:40:26.180 worked
00:40:26.540 in
00:40:26.660 marketing.
00:40:27.740 Their
00:40:27.880 conversation
00:40:28.440 went
00:40:28.700 like
00:40:28.920 this.
00:40:31.440 So
00:40:31.600 many
00:40:32.260 of these
00:40:32.580 clients
00:40:32.900 and
00:40:33.060 campaigns
00:40:33.680 whether
00:40:34.340 they
00:40:34.580 are
00:40:34.860 for
00:40:35.200 a
00:40:35.340 product
00:40:35.700 or
00:40:35.960 for
00:40:36.180 obscurity
00:40:36.720 are
00:40:37.120 long-term
00:40:37.680 things
00:40:38.200 I
00:40:38.480 asked
00:40:38.820 her.
00:40:40.000 Yes
00:40:40.240 she
00:40:40.440 said
00:40:40.760 in
00:40:41.100 some
00:40:41.340 cases
00:40:41.780 for
00:40:42.160 decades.
00:40:43.420 At which
00:40:43.920 I
00:40:44.080 raised
00:40:44.300 my
00:40:44.500 eyebrows.
00:40:46.060 Okay
00:40:46.320 there is
00:40:47.100 an 88%
00:40:47.860 chance
00:40:48.320 that you
00:40:48.780 as an
00:40:49.080 adult
00:40:49.340 single
00:40:49.680 male
00:40:50.020 in the
00:40:50.380 western
00:40:50.620 world
00:40:51.020 have
00:40:51.480 shaved
00:40:51.860 pubes
00:40:52.480 she
00:40:52.680 said.
00:40:53.840 Okay
00:40:54.440 got me
00:40:54.960 there.
00:40:55.260 When
00:40:56.780 when
00:40:56.800 you
00:40:56.940 were
00:40:57.060 a
00:40:57.160 young
00:40:57.340 man
00:40:57.620 in
00:40:57.740 the
00:40:57.860 70s
00:40:58.340 did
00:40:58.700 you
00:40:58.880 shave
00:40:59.120 your
00:40:59.300 pubes
00:40:59.720 she
00:40:59.940 asked.
00:41:01.160 Fuck
00:41:01.400 no.
00:41:03.120 So
00:41:03.240 your
00:41:03.440 starting
00:41:03.760 to
00:41:03.940 shave
00:41:04.140 your
00:41:04.320 pubes
00:41:04.740 coincided
00:41:05.520 with
00:41:05.740 the
00:41:05.920 advent
00:41:06.560 of
00:41:06.920 VHS
00:41:07.520 cassettes
00:41:08.040 and
00:41:08.440 easy
00:41:08.880 access
00:41:09.220 to
00:41:09.440 porn
00:41:09.740 and
00:41:10.180 porn
00:41:10.520 stars
00:41:10.800 would
00:41:10.980 shave
00:41:11.240 pubes.
00:41:12.960 I
00:41:13.500 guess
00:41:14.100 yeah.
00:41:15.740 Well
00:41:15.980 guess
00:41:16.360 who
00:41:16.540 started
00:41:16.920 that
00:41:17.200 campaign
00:41:17.740 by
00:41:17.980 getting
00:41:18.340 the
00:41:18.840 porn
00:41:19.120 companies
00:41:19.640 to
00:41:19.820 find
00:41:20.020 and
00:41:20.260 financially
00:41:20.780 supporting
00:41:21.320 them
00:41:21.640 if
00:41:22.360 their
00:41:22.580 models
00:41:22.940 were
00:41:23.240 hairless
00:41:23.820 minimal
00:41:24.360 pubes
00:41:24.980 ideally
00:41:25.600 all
00:41:25.880 over.
00:41:26.960 A
00:41:27.240 campaign
00:41:27.740 that
00:41:27.960 has
00:41:28.120 now
00:41:28.360 been
00:41:28.560 running
00:41:28.860 for
00:41:29.080 30
00:41:29.400 years.
00:41:31.340 Generations
00:41:31.860 are
00:41:32.020 growing
00:41:32.300 up
00:41:32.520 now
00:41:32.840 who
00:41:33.180 start
00:41:33.560 depilating
00:41:34.420 their
00:41:37.140 pubes
00:41:37.760 as soon
00:41:38.220 as the
00:41:38.480 first
00:41:38.740 hair
00:41:38.960 growth
00:41:39.240 starts
00:41:39.840 all
00:41:40.560 so
00:41:40.720 a
00:41:40.880 few
00:41:41.040 companies
00:41:41.480 can
00:41:41.720 sell
00:41:41.920 razors
00:41:42.440 and
00:41:42.700 creams
00:41:43.040 and
00:41:43.240 shit
00:41:43.440 at
00:41:43.620 a
00:41:43.740 rate
00:41:43.900 100
00:41:44.420 times
00:41:44.800 higher
00:41:45.140 than
00:41:45.580 back
00:41:45.860 in
00:41:45.960 the
00:41:46.040 day
00:41:46.220 when
00:41:46.420 men
00:41:46.660 shaved
00:41:46.960 their
00:41:47.160 faces
00:41:47.620 and
00:41:47.920 that
00:41:48.120 was
00:41:48.320 it.
00:41:48.560 So far
00:41:51.460 just
00:41:51.620 another
00:41:51.820 story
00:41:52.120 of
00:41:52.260 marketing
00:41:52.580 manipulation
00:41:53.200 Bernays
00:41:53.760 style
00:41:54.120 with
00:41:54.820 the
00:41:54.940 funny
00:41:55.120 quirk
00:41:55.500 that
00:41:55.760 it's
00:41:56.000 nearly
00:41:56.300 driven
00:41:56.580 the
00:41:56.740 pubic
00:41:57.060 louse
00:41:57.320 to
00:41:57.500 extinction
00:41:58.080 aside
00:41:59.100 from
00:41:59.300 one
00:41:59.440 crazy
00:41:59.780 woman
00:41:59.980 in
00:42:00.140 Norway
00:42:00.420 who's
00:42:00.700 trying
00:42:00.860 to
00:42:01.000 save
00:42:01.220 it.
00:42:02.360 But
00:42:02.560 the
00:42:02.680 real
00:42:02.920 reason
00:42:03.220 he
00:42:03.380 related
00:42:03.720 this
00:42:03.940 conversation
00:42:04.460 was
00:42:04.740 this.
00:42:07.460 Sometime
00:42:07.980 later
00:42:08.240 she
00:42:08.460 left
00:42:08.800 and
00:42:09.220 her
00:42:09.360 parting
00:42:09.600 shot
00:42:09.900 was
00:42:10.080 this.
00:42:11.560 You
00:42:11.660 know
00:42:11.800 what
00:42:11.980 should
00:42:12.260 frighten
00:42:12.660 you?
00:42:13.460 Not
00:42:13.660 that
00:42:13.800 we
00:42:13.900 have
00:42:14.020 a
00:42:14.140 hundred
00:42:14.380 years
00:42:14.740 of
00:42:14.940 practice
00:42:15.360 at
00:42:15.580 manipulating
00:42:16.180 consent
00:42:16.840 but
00:42:17.520 the
00:42:17.660 fact
00:42:17.900 that
00:42:18.040 the
00:42:18.140 manipulators
00:42:18.640 themselves
