Summary

Larry King says no media entity can elect a president. I'm amazed nobody else is talking about this. Larry King believes it's the media's duty to elect a President. I don't think that's a bad thing. That's what a real journalist would say.

00:00:03.000 Welcome to my show!
00:00:25.000 The host's opinions count.
00:00:26.000 So we got right-wing radio, left-wing radio.
00:00:29.000 We got Fox News.
00:00:30.000 We got MSNBC. They're both preaching to the choir.
00:00:35.000 I don't think they have any national impact.
00:00:37.000 I don't think Fox News could elect a president.
00:00:44.000 Did you catch what I just caught?
00:00:49.000 Yeah, that was kind of creepy.
00:00:51.000 Larry King just said, I don't think, forget about Fox News, I don't think a media entity can elect a president.
00:01:01.000 Not, I don't think a media entity should ever try to elect a president.
00:01:06.000 He said it as a condemnation, because let's be honest, it's Larry King, he's not a fan of Fox News, saying, well, Fox News could never elect a president.
00:01:14.000 Meaning, he believes that traditional media, the era of Cronkite, the era of King, that they were able to elect presidents.
00:01:26.000 He believes that's the role of media.
00:01:30.000 That is insane.
00:01:32.000 I'm amazed nobody else is talking about this.
00:01:35.000 Now, he's right.
00:01:36.000 That Fox News, you know, preaches to the choir.
00:01:38.000 Many conservatives, they do.
00:01:39.000 They have a conservative audience.
00:01:40.000 MSNBC preaches to the choir.
00:01:42.000 They have a certain audience.
00:01:44.000 CNN preaches to the same choir as MSNBC. But to say, I don't believe they can elect a president.
00:01:52.000 And he's saying that as a...
00:01:53.000 It should be a great thing.
00:01:55.000 What a real journalist would say is, well, listen, it's a good thing I don't believe that media can elect a president.
00:02:02.000 That's not our job.
00:02:03.000 That's what they should say.
00:02:06.000 But that's not what Larry King believes.
00:02:07.000 He believes it's the media's duty to appoint president.
00:02:12.000 And that's why the media was so furious with Matt Drudge when that happened to Lewinsky scandal, right?
00:02:19.000 What happened with Matt Drudge is...
00:02:22.000 This was all the newspapers, ABC, NBC, CBS, and Matt Drudge was taking this Lewinsky scandal that was buried maybe page 9 in some paper and putting it front page.
00:02:32.000 And that's what blew up the scandal.
00:02:34.000 And again, the media who Larry King believes were able to elect presidents, saying, who is this guy putting on page 1 what we put on page 6?
00:02:43.000 We didn't want that to get out there because we want to elect presidents.
00:02:47.000 We want to ensure that The safety of presidents who we helped elect.
00:02:53.000 Man.
00:02:54.000 Do you realize that with the Monica Lewinsky scandal, for example, if you were watching Dan Rather, you didn't hear the name Monica Lewinsky for several weeks after that story had broken?
00:03:07.000 It's hard to fathom because it seemed like it was everywhere, but I can't remember what the timeline was.
00:03:13.000 Right.
00:03:13.000 No, it was online and they were furious.
00:03:17.000 I'm furious that someone like Matt Drudge, that's why they badmouth everyone now, same with bloggers, ever since Matt Drudge.
00:03:26.000 And everyone, of course, knows Drudge Report.
00:03:28.000 Ever since Matt Drudge, the media has felt that it's the duty of the media to go, oh, some blogger, you know, Vinny in the basement.
00:03:36.000 I mean, Anne Macklin, he was just talking about that super Mexican, you know, broke some of these stories here over at therightscoop.com.
00:03:42.000 Or when they say, some guy on the internet.
00:03:44.000 Right, yeah, that's right.
00:03:46.000 That's right.
00:03:47.000 Someone whose program I've done several times.
00:03:50.000 Yeah.
00:03:50.000 And then after I decide I don't want to do the programming anymore, I become some guy on the internet.
00:03:55.000 Yeah.
00:03:55.000 That was obnoxious.
00:03:57.000 You know, listen, I mean, it's very, very key.
00:04:00.000 Because on the one hand, you have Larry King and Walter Cronkite, who were thought of at one point as my God, actual journalists.
00:04:10.000 And then the other side, you have people who seek the truth, like Matt Drudge, like Andrew Breitbart.
00:04:15.000 Now, I try and seek the truth.
00:04:17.000 I'm an entertainer.
00:04:18.000 I'm not a journalist.
00:04:19.000 I've never claimed to be a journalist.
00:04:21.000 But there is a line in the sand, and it's becoming more and more clear.
00:04:26.000 And that's why you have people out there who are willing to do the job that the media isn't going to do.
00:04:31.000 Why were James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles able to go into ACORN and every single office except for one were willing to aid and abet underage prostitution?
00:04:42.000 So you're saying, I mean, they went into many and all of them were willing to.
00:04:46.000 You mean to tell me that no one in media, no one on Larry King's staff?
00:04:51.000 No one on Dan Rather's staff thought to go investigate this organization.
00:04:55.000 We knew that it was corrupt for years.
00:04:57.000 Everyone who works in the political arena or the media industry knew.
00:05:01.000 It was an ongoing joke, both with conservatives and liberals.
00:05:04.000 But Larry King, not one thought, let's go in and do an investigation.
00:05:08.000 They're too busy investigating diners where an owner might not be pro-gay.
00:05:13.000 The reason is because they believe the media Can and should elect presidents.
00:05:21.000 You hear that here.
00:05:22.000 It seems benign.
00:05:24.000 He doesn't realize what he's saying, and most people don't realize what he's saying.
00:05:28.000 Liberals will go, yeah, he's right.
00:05:30.000 Fox News can't elect presidents because Barack Obama won twice.
00:05:34.000 Well, that's true.
00:05:36.000 He's not incorrect in that.
00:05:38.000 Fox News doesn't have the influence to elect presidents.
00:05:42.000 But that's not the job of media, of journalists.
00:05:46.000 It should never be the job to elect presidents.
00:05:49.000 They should think that that's a great shame hung around their neck if at any point people who are journalists, not opinion editors, are trying to elect presidents or affect outcome of politics.
00:06:03.000 I mean, is it just me?
00:06:07.000 Well, it's weird because I think that Rush brought a great amount of power during the Contract with America era.
00:06:17.000 I had the big poster that he sent out with the Limbaugh letter back then of the Contract with America, and Newt was everywhere, and I think that Rush directly influenced the entire nation.
00:06:30.000 But he doesn't claim to be an unbiased journalist.
00:06:32.000 Yeah, true.
00:06:33.000 Larry King does.
00:06:34.000 Larry King here in this exact clip is condemning media not for being biased, right?
00:06:41.000 He's condemning them for having an opinion and then saying, and I don't think they can elect presidents.
00:06:49.000 So in other words, he's saying you should be biased.
00:06:51.000 You should try and elect presidents.
00:06:54.000 Just make sure people don't catch on because then it appears publicly that you're preaching to the choir.
00:06:59.000 This is so pivotal.
00:07:01.000 I mean, this is a guy who...
00:07:03.000 I mean, obviously, listen, his ratings were nothing by the time he left, and then they couldn't make Piers Morgan work.
00:07:06.000 They can't make anything work in the CNN time slots.
00:07:08.000 The only guy who has stuff there, I think, that is actually doing well is Mike Rowe with his mini-series, because it's interesting, and he's a guy who people really like, and he also happens to be more conservative.
00:07:21.000 It's one of those things...
00:07:22.000 Listener, please, go to ladderwithcrowder.com.
00:07:26.000 We'll get this clip up on the website.
00:07:28.000 Or actually, we'll probably provide this in a video cast for you with the clip in there so you can have it all self-encapsulated and send it to your friends.
00:07:36.000 But this is what behind closed doors...
00:07:39.000 Every now and then you get a glimpse, right?
00:07:40.000 Because they've been trained through years of college.
00:07:43.000 In media school, journalism, school where you learn journalism, it doesn't really teach you how to be an unbiased journalist.
00:07:51.000 It teaches you how to present the journalism.
00:07:55.000 And most of those professors teaching it...
00:07:58.000 Are just as far left as the people here who removed American Sniper from U of M campus.
00:08:02.000 So they're teaching you how to play this shell game.
00:08:06.000 Oh, I'm unbiased.
00:08:07.000 I'm unbiased.
00:08:08.000 Here's just the news.
00:08:09.000 By the way, we're going to try and elect presidents.
00:08:12.000 Like Larry King said, he made it sound like that's the ultimate end goal is for media to elect presidents.
00:08:19.000 So whenever someone tells you they missed the golden era of unbiased journalism, the era of Walter Cronkite, who said you couldn't be a journalist and not be a liberal, just know that it's all an absolute crock.
00:08:30.000 Everyone has an opinion.
