00:00:11.900 Like I'm very positive I'm going to eat lunch today, right?
00:00:16.280 It's more guaranteed that I'm going to die one day.
00:00:21.220 Is not the life more?
00:00:23.720 Isn't there something more to life?
00:00:25.480 for we brought nothing into this world
00:00:27.780 and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
00:00:30.840 There should be a red flashing sign
00:00:33.720 that says danger in regards to money.
00:00:36.260 Everything before this
00:00:37.680 is just the luggage you're traveling with. 0.76
00:00:41.260 You're a pilgrim and a stranger.
00:00:43.740 Thou art a God that hide thyself, 0.98
00:00:45.440 O God of Israel, the Savior.
00:00:47.440 It's the glory of God to conceal a thing,
00:00:49.320 but the honor of kings is to search out a matter.
00:00:52.640 So he's not hiding it from us,
00:00:54.500 he's hiding it for us, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. The guy in the
00:01:01.700 pulpit on Sunday morning, the guy with the microphone, that dude is an errand boy for God.
00:01:07.160 Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be
00:01:11.480 added unto you. All right, we're back in Sermon on the Mount, episode 29. We're focusing on the
00:01:23.980 verses Matthew 6, 31 through 34, which we should wrap up chapter six this week. It's been a while.
00:01:31.240 Oh, that's a cool thing on the bottom left. Don't break the third wall. All right. We're cool. We're
00:01:35.520 good. Everything's good. All right. Matthew 6, 31. Therefore, take no thought saying, what shall we
00:01:40.500 eat? And we went over this before where we said, take no thought doesn't mean don't think, stop
00:01:45.040 using your mental capacity. It means take no anxiety. We already unpacked that the last week
00:01:49.100 or two take no anxiety saying what shall we eat or what shall we drink or wherewithal shall we be
00:01:53.660 clothed for after all these things do the gentiles seek for your heavenly father knows that you have
00:01:58.800 need of all these things but seek ye first the kingdom of god and his righteousness and all these
00:02:04.460 things shall be added unto you take therefore no thought for tomorrow for tomorrow shall take
00:02:09.220 thought for the things of itself sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof we left off last week
00:02:15.640 in 2 Timothy 1, 9, we kind of finished there, but we were making the point because right before
00:02:22.740 verse 9 and verse 7, it talks about having power, love, and a sound mind. And we were talking about
00:02:27.820 how that's the opposite of anxiety. I don't have any headphones. That's the opposite of anxiety,
00:02:34.980 right? To have power, love, and a sound mind. So what is the perspective of one who has power,
00:02:40.680 love, and a sound mind? The perspective of that one goes like this. God, who had saved us and
00:02:45.620 called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and
00:02:50.860 grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, right? So before the world began,
00:02:57.160 God had a holy calling for me, right? And holy means like the character of God. If you think
00:03:02.620 about the Holy Spirit, it's like he could be called many, many things, right? But he's referred
00:03:07.080 to as the Holy Ghost, the Holy Spirit. That's the actual character of God, holiness, right?
00:03:12.220 So there's this holy calling that's tied into me with like the character of God, or as this passage says that we're reading now, his righteousness, right?
00:03:22.020 I'm called according to his righteousness.
00:03:26.160 So God who had saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our work, so not according to anything like good in me or any credentials I have or anything I can point to and brag or boast or say, you know, because of that, that's why God called me.
00:03:42.220 He's called me with a holy calling, not according to my works, but according to his own purpose
00:03:47.160 and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.
00:03:51.360 So that's why we don't have anxiety.
00:03:53.060 We unpacked that last week, right?
00:03:54.420 Like I'm called according to his purposes, according to his grace.
00:03:58.500 So he gives me the grace to fulfill whatever that purpose is.
00:04:01.940 And so, can I get headphones?
00:04:03.880 Yeah.
00:04:04.080 And so according to that, that's how I'm living, right?
00:04:08.020 My life is the story of me and God.
00:04:10.000 I've kind of told that before.
00:04:11.100 Or, you know, sometimes you get in these scenarios where maybe you want to argue with people or people are giving you a hard time or there's any there's any of these situations happening in life.
00:04:21.160 And you're simply saying, look, my my life is the story of me and God. It's not the story of me and whatever problems I have at my job.
00:04:28.320 It's not the story of me and whatever problems I have in my family life. It's not the story of me and, you know, how good of an athlete I am or, you know, whatever the things could be about life.
00:04:38.440 My story is the story of me and God. Right. And that's why we don't have anxiety, because we're called according to his purpose.
00:04:48.060 And that's why we seek him. Right. Like that, like that makes it very plain of why we would seek him.
00:04:52.400 We would seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness. That's why we would do that. Right.
00:04:57.460 Because he's got a holy calling, a destiny for me, if you will, from the beginning of time.
00:05:02.360 So like if I've got a destiny called out for by God, you know, I can either spend my life like banging my head against the wall and trying to find the path that works for me.
00:05:11.960 Or I can just get with God and say, hey, what is it that you want to do with me?
00:05:15.640 You see how that would lead to not having the anxiety that a lot of people have today?
00:05:20.780 I mean, yeah, we're not going to talk about it, but I guess both of us are going through that in a bit of a way.
00:05:26.240 I'll tell you maybe after the show.
00:05:28.080 um but it's nice don't bring it up like that and then not say it dude it's not for their business
00:05:33.640 no what so what's happening give me just like a ballpark give me an idea like a topic no it's just
00:05:38.000 the anxiety of things that need to be done that haven't been done and then they pack they pile
00:05:42.320 up and pack up but yeah even though that stuff has happened and has passed it's like okay well
00:05:48.900 now i've like me and my wife had to talk about it it's like now we've spoken about it and now we
00:05:53.500 have things in order and we also have god on our side so it's like okay we're not going to be
00:05:57.400 anxious about this stuff this happened already yeah let's pick this up and let's move forward
00:06:01.280 right and not doing anything is just going to feed the anxiety right yeah not doing anything
00:06:06.400 knowing there's a thing that needs to be dealt with and not dealing with it that just leads to
00:06:10.640 anxiety but we unpacked it last week uh the passage in philippians where it says that um be
00:06:16.580 be anxious for nothing but by prayer and supplications make your request uh known unto
00:06:21.840 god right so it's like that's what you gotta do you find yourself in these anxiety situations and
00:06:26.900 Sometimes it requires you to do a thing physically in the natural realm.
00:06:30.520 But first and foremost, it requires you to pray.
00:06:32.960 Yeah.
00:06:33.360 Like, let's get this right, God.
00:06:34.720 Like, I got this thing that's kind of eating at me.
00:06:36.640 It's causing this anxiety, this uneasiness.
00:06:39.080 How about I get with you first, God?
00:06:40.680 Like, what's your perspective on this?
00:06:42.200 I'm called according to your purpose.
00:06:43.780 So don't let me go off the rails because if every time the anxiety hits, I make up my
00:06:47.460 own mind of what I'm going to do with it, then I can just slowly, like an airplane that
00:06:50.780 just goes like a couple degrees off, just all of a sudden I'm way off, man, by the time
00:06:54.840 I get to my destination.
00:06:56.280 Let me every time just get with you, God, because I've been saved and called by the holy calling according to Christ Jesus before the world began.
00:07:03.860 So that's what we do when we have that anxiety.
00:07:05.600 If we look at 1 Timothy 6, verses 7 through 10, I don't know if we even have that in NLT, but I'll read in King James first.
00:07:19.660 You can get it.
00:07:20.320 I'll read in King James first while you pull that one up.
00:07:23.080 Okay, it goes like this.
00:07:24.300 It goes, for we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
00:07:29.900 That statement alone kind of, I think, is a major cure for anxiety.
00:07:34.460 It's like I was just born a naked, bloody baby that was completely helpless.
00:07:38.340 I started with zero.
00:07:40.080 So whatever I'm so-called accumulating along the path is like whatever.
00:07:44.120 I came in the world with nothing.
00:07:45.220 I'm leaving with nothing.
00:07:48.340 And having food and raiment let us be there with content.
00:07:52.180 Like survival is what that's saying.
00:07:54.300 Like, as long as I'm surviving, like, we're good.
00:07:56.920 We're good. 0.78
00:07:57.900 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and hurtful
00:08:02.240 lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
00:08:06.200 For the love of money is a root of all evil, which while some coveted after they have erred
00:08:10.680 from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
00:08:13.220 The reason I like it in the NLT is just because it makes it a lot more plain.
00:08:16.260 If we just read it again in the NLT.
00:08:18.840 Okay.
00:08:19.420 After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world and we can't take anything
00:08:23.600 with us when we leave, when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.
00:08:29.720 I don't know if people really take that part serious, man. If you have food and clothes,
00:08:35.100 be content. Imagine that in light of American life and all the things and stuff we have.
00:08:40.340 The Bible is telling us like, bro, if you got food and clothes, you're good. You're on planet
00:08:43.960 earth. You're only here for 120 years anyway. So like, regardless of how much stuff you accumulate
00:08:48.740 or how many luxuries you live in down here, it doesn't really matter, man. If you got food and
00:08:53.220 clothes, you're good. That's what I'm saying. Hardcore poverty is bad. Hardcore poverty is
00:08:59.000 really terrible. When you don't have food and clothes and a bed and a pillow and a shower,
00:09:03.720 that is really bad, man. But as long as you have those things, I think when people start to go
00:09:07.740 into major luxuries beyond that, they're not becoming happier. If you know people with tons
00:09:12.720 of things and stuff, they're not happier because of it. For the love of money is the root of all
00:09:18.300 kinds of evil and some people craving money have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves
00:09:24.220 with many sorrows hey check check this out i people know that i did this i know this is kind
00:09:30.300 of aside from what we usually do but this is a some artwork that i did for a new shirt
00:09:34.160 it's pierced with me after we read this that's good dude it's this guy it's got like a he's got
00:09:39.800 a bunch of arrows through his back and the um not the knocks but the uh the end of the arrow
00:09:45.020 is like hundred dollar bills yeah it's just uh i mean that's kind of witty and creative dude i got
00:09:51.000 to the i got to the drawing board i was like this is a but these are very these are these very real
00:09:54.780 passages that we say okay do people believe these passages or no i don't know i mean i mean it's
00:10:00.740 saying it very plain dude we have to be very careful with riches do we have verse 10 too or
00:10:04.920 was that 10 that was 10. did we read nine oh let me see i don't know if we read nine dude i just
00:10:12.260 feel like in the NLT it's just very plain but people who long yeah yeah we need to see this
00:10:16.120 people who long to be rich we've talked about this before man you may work in America and work hard
00:10:20.760 and get a lot of dollars that's okay that's that's part of the game right but you do it with an open
00:10:25.460 hand like the money comes in the money goes out it's all good you're not clamping on to money
00:10:29.660 and being like money is my thing people who long to be rich you know you got to think about where
00:10:35.400 does your mind go in your free time that was that was a big um that was something that really
00:10:40.060 convicted me when I first started to walk with God. I know I've said it before. It was like,
00:10:43.060 I love drugs, but I started to realize that money was, was more of a pull and was more of a thing
00:10:48.540 on my mind all the time than even drugs were. So that says people who long to be rich fall
00:10:55.260 into temptation. That longing for riches makes you fall into temptation and are trapped. Then
00:11:02.640 they become trapped by many foolish and harmful desires. Think about how many people are trapped 0.96
00:11:07.500 because of money in America. And you go to a third world nation, they'd be like, this is crazy.
00:11:12.040 You guys have unlimited food, water, and electricity. How could you be trapped? But
00:11:16.420 they're trapped by many foolish and harmful desires. They're foolish desires in the end. 0.99
00:11:21.940 Like all the thing for the money and the stuff and accumulating these temporary things, 0.99
00:11:26.240 they're very foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.
00:11:31.080 don't like wouldn't we wouldn't we be a little more serious in the church today and say guys 0.99
00:11:37.160 there there should be a uh red flashing sign that says danger in regards to money it doesn't mean
00:11:42.880 it's bad it doesn't mean that money is bad like it's money is something we have to use it's like
00:11:47.720 fire yeah you got to be careful with it yeah it's definitely like fire you let it get out of control
00:11:53.740 it's burning your whole house down you need it to heat your house yeah you need it there's a certain
00:11:57.460 amount you need it but it's got to be contained it's got to be in its space that it's supposed
00:12:01.060 to be in and if it gets out of that space it's blows up your whole house yeah it's exactly like
00:12:07.760 fire but i mean you know what on the flip side of that you need an intense amount of fire to melt
00:12:13.080 down i don't know like let's say you want to make like a toilet bowl for porcelain that's like
00:12:17.000 2 000 plus degrees you need that but you need that concentrated so contained if you apply that
00:12:22.660 now we have something beautiful like we have a toilet in every house which is a great thing i'm
00:12:27.700 into that a lot of money is the same sort of ideas like but it must be contained and i think in light
00:12:33.940 of the previous passage you could say that like desiring and chasing money and luxuries and uh
00:12:40.740 monetary gain it may not look bad from the outside it may not people may say no he's doing great not
00:12:47.780 only that like he does great at the church he's in charge of this bible study and you know maybe
00:12:53.300 he does his canned food drive or whatever you know whatever all the things are they're doing in the
00:12:56.580 churches today they're saying like oh yeah all that looks great but it could be derailing the
00:13:00.980 destiny or the calling right if you've been saved and called with a holy calling in christ jesus
00:13:04.900 before the world began and you start to desire riches it may not look like total destruction
00:13:10.900 but again it's like the airplane that just goes a couple degrees off man on the path and it's just
00:13:15.540 derailing your destiny man it's it's really just that simple man a lot of these a lot of these
00:13:20.420 things in life dude me and jess were just talking about this when you look back they were like
00:13:24.340 simple things that ended up being big things in our life dude that the day they happened they
00:13:30.020 didn't look like big things or the day that that pattern started it didn't it wasn't some big
00:13:34.740 change in our life but that slow progression ended up shaping our life you know what i mean
00:13:39.700 yeah and so many things in life are like that it kind of comes back to the thing about like
00:13:43.460 the onesie twosies right like the onesie twosies telling you man a lot of the stuff in life is not
00:13:48.800 this big huge event that happens at one time it's the little onesie twosies that you're not paying
00:13:53.280 attention to or hopefully you are paying attention to and if you are then you're containing it and
00:13:58.400 you're guiding it on this path i try not to pay attention to him in the way that uh like i can
00:14:03.920 just put them together like i'm like okay one two and i'll put them in a corner because if you look
00:14:08.860 at that small pile it's discouraging at first but you do that for a little while then you look and
00:14:14.060 you go oh wow look at look at what we've built after you know x amount of time yeah and when
00:14:20.220 it comes to this like uh anxiety thing i remember maybe people can relate to this i totally remember
00:14:25.140 thinking that was like irresponsible or like uh childish to to like not have anxiety and worry i
00:14:32.520 was like i'm being very irresponsible to not be anxiety and worrying about that right now that's
00:14:37.120 something I should be anxiety and worrying about. And I think that's like a natural thing inside of
00:14:41.580 us that, because there's something in us that knows that something needs to happen. We need
00:14:46.060 to be active in regards to that anxiety into that, in regards to that thing that's on my mind,
00:14:51.300 that's plaguing me. I know I need to be active about it. And so like in our minds, we think
00:14:56.680 that like, yeah, worry and anxiety is the thing I need to be doing. That's the responsible thing.
00:15:01.860 And this whole passage is just unpacking, you know, it's making plain statements. Like
00:15:05.580 nobody can add one inch to their height by worry like like think about it you can't do anything
00:15:10.780 about it or the way it wraps up is like tomorrow has uh evils for itself don't worry about the
00:15:16.080 evils of tomorrow it'll have all of its own it's like this thought that like yeah that no anxiety
00:15:20.400 today is going to change the the things that you have anxiety about for tomorrow like it's like
00:15:25.620 it's that's not useful it's actually destructive so it should take us to the place of prayer though
00:15:30.900 right? So in the sense of like, I used to think it was like childish or immature to not have
00:15:37.300 anxiety about a thing. Now I know that it's, yeah, I'm supposed to have something. I'm supposed
00:15:43.280 to have prayer about it. I'm supposed to go to God about it. I'm supposed to, and then be active
00:15:47.600 about resolving it. But the worry and the anxiety about the thing is just destructive, right? I know
00:15:53.060 I'm probably just carrying on about that at this point, but I don't know. It's important. Okay.
00:15:56.820 Matthew 11, 28 through 30, this gets into something very staggering.
00:16:01.720 We get another option here.
00:16:04.060 Matthew 11, 28, 29, and 30.
00:16:08.120 This is like a lovely passage to me too.
00:16:12.360 Go ahead.
00:16:13.580 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
00:16:19.100 Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart,
00:16:23.480 and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
00:16:25.740 for my yoke is easy and my burden is light okay okay so the picture is it like an animal like an
00:16:32.140 ox with a yoke and a burden and the yoke is would be like the harness you know you put like a harness
00:16:36.040 on your on your dog or whatever you're putting you're putting a harness on this ox right that's
00:16:41.680 the yoke right what does he say about his yoke he says uh my yoke is easy then the burden is that
00:16:47.880 weight that they're that they're carrying behind them the bird so you've got a you've got an oxen
00:16:52.500 he's got a yoke on him and he's got some load that he's pulling along as he's plowing or whatever
00:16:58.360 jesus is saying that to you he's saying my yoke is easy my burden is light right so think about
00:17:04.600 like how uncomfortable and heavy the world's yoke and burden is think about it dude think about
00:17:10.760 think about like think about the reality like you can never stop dude like the world has this
00:17:16.500 yoke on you and you're just kind of like you cannot you can't stop dude you know and in your
00:17:21.920 mind, you're like, well, yeah, no, you get like a summer vacation, right? You're like Christmas
00:17:26.780 break and spring break and summer vacation. And then one day you're a grownup and you realize
00:17:30.460 like, no, no, you don't, you don't have any of that. Like you have this yoke on you. You have,
00:17:35.740 you have this like harness that's on you. That's uncomfortable, man. It's almost like,
00:17:42.140 dare I say, like a crown of thorns in a way, dude. It's like, it's like, so the yoke of the
00:17:46.580 world is so uncomfortable, dude. It's so bad. It's such not a fit. It's such an uncomfortable
00:17:53.300 and like harming, hurting fit is really what it is, man. And I think we've spent our whole life
00:17:59.560 just trying to like loosen it up. And Jesus says, no, no, no, chill, chill, man. Take my yoke.
00:18:04.360 You're going to have a yoke on you. It is what it is. And then he says, my burden is light,
00:18:08.580 man. He says like this weight that you got to carry, mine's light. You don't have to carry
00:18:12.780 this huge burden man he starts off about all ye that labor so he's talking i don't know i might
00:18:20.000 be wrong here but it seems like he's talking to the people who are doing stuff sure is he does
00:18:25.360 this mean like he's if you're just being lazy not worrying about he's not talking to you here right
00:18:29.380 that yeah that's a fair point it's that that's a whole other um that's a whole other correction i
00:18:34.840 suppose he would have for people who are lazy and who don't have any um they don't have any labor
00:18:41.540 they don't have any yoke they don't have any burden they're just kind of la la laing through
00:18:44.860 life yeah that's i that's fair to say that's another group of people but i don't know in a
00:18:48.960 certain sense like all humans have this man like all humans have this yoke and this burden on them
00:18:55.420 yeah right think about american life dude think about think about american life and like
00:19:00.640 bro your mortgage your car payment your light bill your insurance your insurance is because
00:19:07.760 there's like so many insurances now like i'm not even talking about like any luxuries or comforts
00:19:12.500 i'm just talking about like the things that everybody has to pay think about the yoke and
00:19:16.800 the burden on that dude and yeah like i said like you it never comes to a stop it's like well yeah
00:19:22.120 yeah two sevenths of your days you don't have to work it's like yeah but those two sevenths now i
00:19:26.140 gotta do everything else that's not like my job yeah gotta clean the house yeah i gotta catch up
00:19:30.840 on all the other things oh yeah but then one day you get a vacation it's like well do do i because
00:19:36.540 like it's not like my workload goes away when i'm on vacation i'm just piling it up for when i get
00:19:41.120 back dude like i'm saying think about i know a lot of people don't like to think like this or talk
00:19:45.380 like this but it's got to be said like that's the world we live in in america again i don't i don't
00:19:50.440 know what it's like in third world nations like they might look at it a little different but dude
00:19:54.520 the yoke and the burden on american people is heavy heavy and uncomfortable all right so in
00:20:01.760 light of that, the solution is, but seek, man. Like this whole thing is saying like, take no
00:20:06.220 anxiety. It's not saying take no thought because we end up in this passage. We end up in this verse
00:20:10.440 in 33 that says, but seek, right? You got all these things. You got all these anxieties. You've
00:20:16.640 got this burden. You got this yoke. You've got, you know, you're chasing riches. You know, you've
00:20:21.760 been chasing riches. You've been chasing all the things the world tells you to chase. And then
00:20:26.300 Jesus says, no, no, no. Stop with all that, man. Look at the birds. Look at the flowers. They're
00:20:30.800 cared for, but there is something you need to do. I'm not telling you don't think at all. I'm
00:20:34.840 saying think on a deeper level. He's saying, but seek, okay? This is the force of your life, but
00:20:40.440 seek. Almost as if to say everything before this is just the luggage you're traveling with.
00:20:49.480 You're a pilgrim and a stranger. You came in the world with nothing. You're leaving with nothing.
00:20:54.300 Like if we're putting this in right context, he's saying all this other stuff, all these other
00:20:58.540 dollars, all these other commas and zeros and cars and houses and whatever the other things are that
00:21:04.100 you have, this is just the luggage that you're carrying on this journey. This is the true
00:21:09.200 adventure. This is the true adventure. Seek God. Seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness.
00:21:15.500 Imagine how silly it would be if I said, bro, how was your vacation on the cruise? And you're like,
00:21:20.760 oh, dude, it was awesome, man. I had 20 suitcases, dude. It was the coolest, man. I had blue ones
00:21:26.120 and pink ones and green ones. And dude, like my wheels on them, they were like rollerblade wheels,
00:21:30.880 dude. Like I have like the coolest wheels. I had the best luggage. Like, dude, I had,
00:21:34.120 I had one suitcase just full of underwear. I'd be like, this is so stupid. That's how stupid 1.00
00:21:40.240 this conversation is when we like, when we don't recognize that all the other things, 1.00
00:21:44.520 it's just the luggage we're carrying on in our life, dude. But the life, the true adventure is,
00:21:49.480 but seek, right? Seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness, right? You're just a pilgrim
00:21:56.100 him in a stranger. It's like when you seek the king, you seek the kingdom. Like that's what's 0.93
00:22:00.060 wrapped up in all this. There's no kingdom without a king. So you're seeking the king, right? The
00:22:04.280 plan, the playing field of the king, you're seeking him. And when you seek the king, you
00:22:09.100 absorb his character, right? Which is righteousness. So seek ye first the kingdom of God and his
00:22:14.280 righteousness. Remember we brought up several times now about Moses. He spends time with God.
00:22:17.900 Now he's like acting like God, right? And so in the same sense, like in 1 Corinthians 1 30,
00:22:22.900 it says, Christ Jesus has made unto us righteousness. You don't even have to pull it up.
00:22:26.980 I'm simply saying, we don't have a righteousness of our own. Christ Jesus has made unto us
00:22:31.660 righteousness. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. In all these things,
00:22:36.820 all the luggage will be taken care of. You show up and get on the adventure,
00:22:41.020 the luggage will be taken care of. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,
00:22:46.540 and all these things shall be added unto you. So let's look at a little bit about this seeking
00:22:51.940 concept. I'm kind of into this. I like the seeking thing. If we look at Isaiah 45, 15, it says this.
00:23:03.660 It says, verily thou art a God that hide thyself, O God of Israel, the Savior.
00:23:10.840 This is very subtle, right? It's not part of most people's theology, but I'd say
00:23:14.240 we've got to understand this about God because it teaches us about his nature, right? That he's
00:23:20.420 almost like playful. Playing hide and seek? Yeah. I just think a lot of people don't know this about
00:23:27.300 God. I don't know if playful is the right word, but in my mind, it's like playful. It's like the
00:23:31.040 same way he teaches in parables. Like this is his character. This is nature. Or the Holy Spirit may
00:23:36.180 teach in dreams, may speak in dreams today, right? Like there may be some of that because it's the
00:23:40.660 same as Jesus speaking in parables, right? He's a God that hides himself. I think this matters
00:23:46.260 because it matters who God is.
00:23:48.540 It matters if you know his ways, right?
00:23:50.960 Well, stories are important in that way.
00:23:53.900 Like, I think God operates in stories.
00:23:56.560 This is how people operate as well.
00:23:58.580 We need to have stories of our past,
00:24:00.160 of the things that might happen,
00:24:01.260 things that have happened,
00:24:02.120 things that we imagine in the future.
00:24:03.900 And the best stories don't tell you
00:24:07.220 their story on its face,
00:24:08.780 if that makes any sense.
00:24:10.020 Like, if you watched a movie
00:24:11.420 and the director was telling you
00:24:14.040 what to think at every turn, 0.99
00:24:15.300 you'd be like this movie is stupid and it also assumes that the the it's direct the director is 1.00
00:24:20.980 assuming that their audience is stupid yeah but if the director leads you and then like they lead 1.00
00:24:27.300 you to ask a question which they're going to reveal it's it's that fun playful back and forth 0.98
00:24:33.380 thing yeah and it become you become part of the story and that's what makes a good movie story
00:24:37.940 whatever you're doing and i think that's how god opera that that is how god operates and that's how
00:24:43.080 good media operates as well people that have realized that function yeah and some people
00:24:48.320 can't handle this right john 10 24 says this it says then came the jews round about him and said
00:24:54.280 unto him how long does thou make us to doubt if you be the christ tell us plainly they're like
00:24:59.820 hey hey man we've got our cold dead doctrine two plus two is four did you just freestyle that pull
00:25:05.160 that up yeah i just pulled it over here why you didn't have it in the notes didn't have that one
00:25:08.860 in the notes. I had it highlighted. Dang. It's all right. It's all good. Missed that one.
00:25:11.920 But, uh, but that they're saying like, and there's some people were like, just tell us
00:25:15.020 plainly, you know, and you can almost see him smiling, you know, imagine God, he's just smiling,
00:25:21.360 you know, tell us plainly. And he, and he doesn't dude, he doesn't look at Proverbs 25 too. I'll
00:25:26.680 show you why he's like this. Like, I'm just saying, this is, this is, this is an aspect
00:25:30.180 of God. You have to know, like we have to know God. It's great. If you have like doctrine,
00:25:36.100 in theology, intellect. These are all great things, but they're, they're a different thing
00:25:40.320 than knowing God and knowing who he is and knowing what his character is. Look what he says here. He
00:25:44.680 says, it's the glory of God to conceal a thing, to hide a thing, right? Just tell us plainly.
00:25:53.080 That's what the Jews said. Just tell us plainly. He's a God that hides himself. The Jews said,
00:25:57.700 just tell us plainly. It's the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the honor of Kings is to
00:26:01.920 search out a matter. So he's not hiding it from us. He's hiding it for us. That's what that's
00:26:08.700 saying. He's saying he's hiding it for us as if to say like the process is what matters, right?
00:26:14.720 The process.
00:26:15.760 Yeah. And you'll learn that. You learn that in the seeking process. You learn that like,
00:26:19.800 oh, this process was like, if you're him, tell us plainly. It's like, yeah, I could,
00:26:25.640 but then you lose the whole process. You lose the whole seeking. This is a big thing. Seek
00:26:30.940 ye first, the kingdom of God and his righteousness. Like there's an element of its
00:26:34.500 hiding and you need to find it and you need to be on an adventure for it. Don't get, don't get
00:26:39.700 sidetracked. Don't get derailed with the luggage. Don't get derailed with the money and the riches,
00:26:44.380 but seek God. He's hiding things not from us, but for us, right? Let's look at Hebrews 11.
00:26:51.980 I was going to do one through six, but how about just six? Cause it kind of, um, it kind of lays
00:26:57.100 it down. It's up to you. We could do, yeah, there we go. Okay. But without faith, it is impossible
00:27:04.660 to please God, to please him. For he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is
00:27:12.460 a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Right? So that's a sign of true faith. Those
00:27:19.440 that diligently seek him. This, like this passage, I had no clue how much it shaped my life, man.
00:27:25.620 there's another one of those passages just like
00:27:28.660 in John where it says that the Holy
00:27:30.740 Ghost will teach you all things
00:27:32.660 it's another one of those passages where like I just 1.00
00:27:34.660 read it and believed it I was just too stupid 0.99
00:27:36.920 to like not believe it it was another 0.99
00:27:38.720 one of those things dude I was like okay God is
00:27:40.760 a rewarder of those who diligently seek
00:27:42.720 him I'm going to diligently seek
00:27:44.780 him I don't even know what reward I'm
00:27:46.720 looking for I honestly was
00:27:48.720 like I don't even know what I'm looking for like I don't even
00:27:50.760 know exactly what I'm trying
00:27:52.740 to get out of this but I'm going to diligently
00:27:54.860 seek him. And so far, what I do know about him, whatever the reward is, it's going to be good.
00:28:00.120 It's going to be good. And that's why like me and Jess talk about like looking back on our life,
00:28:04.020 we're like, who could have even imagined that this is the path that it took? Like if you would
00:28:08.360 have talked to us 20 years ago and say, you know, write out a script for your life, like we couldn't
00:28:12.440 have wrote it out to be this cool. Like we couldn't have wrote it out for it to have evolved
00:28:17.020 like this, if you will. But it was, I look back and I know that passage, that verse shaped me
00:28:23.360 very much, man. I was like, I'm going to diligently seek God. You know, whatever I'm
00:28:28.320 doing now, I don't really like these rewards. So I think I'll take a chance on God and his rewards.
00:28:35.000 All right, let's look at Deuteronomy 29, 29, same kind of concept here.
00:28:42.080 Same concept. These are just all passages that talk about like seeking God,
00:28:46.320 like going after him. I just want to make it clear that like, this is not a spectator sport.
00:28:51.780 I guess that's the big thing I want to like say, man, is that there's a lot of people that just think like, okay, my religion is Christianity.
00:28:59.560 I believe I'm a spectator.
00:29:01.700 I go watch a show and I do that one day a week.
00:29:05.160 And that kind of makes me, you know, that's my religious life.
00:29:08.640 And so I'm good.
00:29:09.760 And it's like, no, no, no.
00:29:10.780 This is like your whole life is spent seeking God, diligently seeking him.
00:29:15.960 The secret things belong unto the Lord our God.
00:29:18.460 So he's got some secret things.
00:29:19.900 I'm not saying we're ever going to know everything about him.
00:29:22.940 I'm definitely not saying that.
00:29:25.760 He's got some secret things.
00:29:28.700 But those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever.
00:29:35.620 This is staggering.
00:29:37.360 This is staggering.
00:29:38.240 I'll read the rest of it in a second.
00:29:39.420 But I can seek God and receive revelation that will be passed on to my descendants.
00:29:45.980 the secret things belong into the lord our god but those things which are revealed belong into
00:29:51.680 us into our children forever you know this passage shook me too i found this one when i first got
00:29:56.800 converted early and i always remember people that were it it seemed as though they were really
00:30:03.460 chasing the money and one of the things that people who love money say i feel bad saying it
00:30:10.160 but i stand behind this statement is they're like i just want to give my kids the things i didn't
00:30:14.500 have. You know how many times I heard that from like people who loved money. They loved like
00:30:19.940 fancy vacations. They loved fancy food and fancy cars and fancy clothes. And they look, you know,
00:30:25.860 and there was a nice way to kind of justify it to say, well, I just want to give my kids the
00:30:30.140 things I never had. What about giving them that dude? What about giving them those revealed
00:30:35.040 things? You want to talk about like a real inheritance, like a true inheritance. You
00:30:39.480 really want to pass something onto your children. Like this is much better than fruit trees. And I
00:30:44.180 think that like that type of thinking is what guided me into like growing a farm because i was
00:30:48.560 like well i want to i'm doing this for the eternal that's the most important thing but if i'm going
00:30:54.200 to have some hobbies in the natural realm i have to have some things that i do if i'm made of spirit
00:30:57.960 soul and body i have to have some stuff i'm doing in the earth i think i'd rather have whatever i'm
00:31:02.540 doing in the earth that hobby if you will be consistent with my mindset about eternity that
00:31:07.880 like i just want to like i want my hobby to be a thing i'm building to pass on to somebody else
00:31:13.060 I don't think I get like great joy from just me doing some super fun thing that I like to do.
00:31:19.480 I get some joy from that, but like I get like a lot greater joy from saying like I'm building something that's going to bless other people.
00:31:27.440 Not to say it doesn't bless me too, but it's like blessing others.
00:31:30.920 It's like this thing that I'm happy to progress towards.
00:31:33.780 And that's what that's talking about.
00:31:34.840 If we can pull it back up, it says the secret things belong unto God, but those that have been revealed belong unto us and to our children forever, man.
00:31:45.180 So, like, I can go after God.
00:31:46.980 Like, I can spend hours in my closet chasing God in his word and prayer, studying out the word of God, communicating with him, having fellowship with God.
00:31:58.040 And I can pass that on to my kids, man.
00:32:00.360 Don't you guys talk a lot about, like, the bad stuff you pass on?
00:32:04.840 Yeah, there's generational iniquity, but there's generational blessings.
00:32:07.620 Yeah, that's that, man.
00:32:08.740 I can go after God and access revelation that I can pass on to my kids, dude, that they can take and pass on to their kids.
00:32:16.240 Now, this is a big part, too.
00:32:17.200 The end of it is that we may do all the words of this law, right?
00:32:22.120 So this is spoken to Israelites who are under the law of Moses.
00:32:26.580 And the context is the secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever,
00:32:32.740 that we may do all the words of this law.
00:32:35.080 They're under the law.
00:32:35.960 They're under the law of Moses. 0.78
00:32:37.380 The same thing applies to us today
00:32:39.020 that we may do all of the commands of God,
00:32:42.020 that we may live according and in obedience to God, right?
00:32:45.700 Like that's how Jesus even wraps up
00:32:47.100 the Sermon on the Mount.
00:32:48.040 He says, any man who hears these sayings of mine,
00:32:50.720 that would be my context,
00:32:51.880 is the teachings and commands of Jesus.
00:32:53.800 Any man who hears these sayings of mine and do with them,
00:32:56.620 he's like a wise man who built his house on a rock.
00:32:58.960 Any man who hears these sayings of mine
00:33:00.340 and do with them not, 1.00
00:33:01.160 he's like a fool who built his house on sand. Same thing, man. It like getting revelation, 1.00
00:33:06.540 getting to know God, seeking God. It's so that we will live this life. It's so that we will do it.
00:33:12.340 Right. It's not, it's not just so that we'll know it, put it in our back pocket,
00:33:16.160 have it memorized. It's so that we will do it. Right. Okay. That's a big thing. All right. Let's,
00:33:22.520 go a little further with this if we look at John
00:33:24.820 11
00:33:25.400 verses 9 and 10.
00:33:37.400 Jesus answered,
00:33:39.240 Are there not 12 hours
00:33:40.580 in the day? If any man walk in the day,
00:33:42.740 he stumbleth not.
00:33:44.260 So man either walks in the day or walks
00:33:46.440 in the night. Sorry, go ahead.
00:33:48.260 Because he seeeth the light of this world.
00:33:50.980 But if a man walk in the night
00:33:52.500 he stumbleth because there is no light in him. There's no light in man, right? Man needs the
00:33:57.160 light of God. Otherwise he walks in darkness. And man chooses to either walk in night or day.
00:34:03.320 Man either walks in darkness or light. You know, this makes you think of these passages like,
00:34:07.820 I think it's 2 Corinthians 4.6 or 2 Corinthians 6.4 or something like that. I know it's on this
00:34:13.300 column in my Bible, but it's, you know, it says like Satan has blinded the eyes of those who
00:34:17.900 don't believe, right? They're walking in darkness. We have to keep that context when we're dealing
00:34:22.120 with the lost, man. They're walking in darkness. Before you go to like slice their throat, just
00:34:25.960 remember that's a blind person. Like, oh, but they're so mean and nasty. They're an enemy of 1.00
00:34:30.460 God. They're a blind person though. They're blind and you are an enemy of God and God saved you in 0.99
00:34:34.780 that state. But the only thing I'm trying to say here is just that man either walks in the day or
00:34:39.280 he walks in the night and he needs the light of God. All right. If we look at John 12 verses 35
00:34:45.860 and 36 it says this it says then jesus said unto them yet a little while is the light with you
00:34:55.620 walk while you have the light less darkness come upon you if you if you have the light
00:35:01.540 and you don't walk in it you better be careful because darkness will come upon you for he that
00:35:07.620 walks in darkness knows not where he goes while you have the light believe in the light that you
00:35:13.700 You may be the children of light.
00:35:15.240 So he set up this whole thing about light and darkness and choosing light.
00:35:19.560 These things spake Jesus and departed and did hide himself from them.
00:35:24.420 Here he goes again.
00:35:25.320 He's hiding.
00:35:27.100 He's saying these are your two options, light and darkness.
00:35:29.640 Walk in the light, like progress, move forward, seek in the light.
00:35:34.660 Will you seek light instead of darkness?
00:35:38.200 Like he hides and says, will you seek me?
00:35:40.320 that's what all this stuff's revolving around we'll stay in john we'll look at three
00:35:45.320 i know you love uh 316 so we'll start in 316 we'll go um 316 through 21 like here's the whole
00:35:53.580 issue of why people uh you say well why wouldn't everybody go to the light right if you can choose
00:35:59.900 light and darkness like if you if you can seek god why would people choose not to seek god remember
00:36:05.500 the whole thing we're doing here is seek seek ye first the kingdom of god and his righteousness
00:36:09.820 and all these others, all the luggage will be added unto you. You'll have plenty of luggage
00:36:13.740 for the journey, but seek God, right? You say, why would people not seek God? Well,
00:36:19.340 he breaks it down right here. It says, for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son
00:36:24.860 that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life because God sent not
00:36:31.100 his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.
00:36:37.080 He that believes on him is not condemned.
00:36:40.340 But he that believes not is condemned already because he had not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God.
00:36:47.200 And this is the condemnation.
00:36:49.200 Right.
00:36:50.720 This is where the rubber meets the road.
00:36:52.960 Right.
00:36:54.600 This is why some seek him and some don't.
00:36:57.020 This is the condemnation, that light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.
00:37:07.640 That's it, man.
00:37:08.640 Like, that's it.
00:37:09.320 For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
00:37:17.720 But he that doeth truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are a rotten God.
00:37:23.900 so so in verse 20 you have do with evil and in verse 21 you have do with truth those are opposites
00:37:30.780 man which is which to me man i always think about this because um it doesn't say like do with evil
00:37:38.080 and then do with good it says do with evil and do with truth right it's like um what does he mean
00:37:44.580 by uh when he says that that your deeds are wrought in god that they're rooted in god that
00:37:51.380 they're uh that they're like bound to god it's it's the same concept as like saved and called
00:37:56.740 with a holy calling in christ jesus before the world began gotcha right it's like it's linked
00:38:02.180 to god i don't we could probably pull it up and blew it our bible what does it say uh
00:38:06.800 do a truth come to light these days may be manifest that they are wrought in god i don't
00:38:12.140 know that's one of these old weird king james words but i'd imagine that that's what it's saying
00:38:16.640 is that like your deeds are attached to God,
00:38:19.260 like connected to God.
00:38:23.420 And ultimately why this is staggering to me, man,
00:38:26.420 is that like it says, you know,
00:38:30.240 he that doeth evil and the opposite of that is doeth truth.
00:38:32.980 And I think this is another main thing about God
00:38:35.100 and why he rails on hypocrites so much
00:38:37.080 is like he can deal with you as long as you're true 0.90
00:38:39.420 and honest and sincere with him.
00:38:41.340 Yeah.
00:38:41.540 It doesn't have to do with how good or bad you are.
00:38:43.460 So this word is actually more interesting
00:38:45.600 then uh i thought it's air ergo ergozami ergozami and uh it means to do business with
00:38:55.000 like to be like tied with in labor yes well that's what it means that's what me and the
00:39:01.020 raven are about to unpack in the corinthian letter that we've been called into fellowship
00:39:04.280 with god that we're co-laborers with him so yeah that's what i'm saying it's like it's connected
00:39:09.060 to god it's rooted in god and fellowship a lot of people don't understand this there is a business
00:39:14.560 element of that. Like I'm not, I'm not saying like money business, but just, but just that,
00:39:19.360 uh, we're co-laborers with him. We're not just fellowshipping with him because we're friends,
00:39:25.200 but what we're doing a specific task, if you will, maybe business isn't the right word,
00:39:29.820 but it's a task that we have to do. Fellowship is wrapped up in that. It's not just we're friends
00:39:34.180 that watch football together. It's that we're called into fellowship with them and that, uh,
00:39:39.700 our works are in him. Like we have a task to do. Right. So yeah, you're saying that's what that
00:39:44.520 word rot has to do with i thought that it meant like he was angry but yeah that that makes a lot
00:39:49.560 more sense yeah yeah i knew it meant like bound to him in some way but i like it that it's
00:39:53.740 specifically saying that there's like business to do in labor and business yes that's true
00:39:59.080 fellowship for whatever reason he calls us to be co-laborers together with him that's that's how he
00:40:04.860 does it dude he he doesn't just say yeah i'll do everything he says he calls co-laborers servants
00:40:10.560 deacons if you will it's one of the is one of the words and it means servants dude it means an errand
00:40:16.160 boy dude i'm the only reason i really that's fresh in my mind is because i'm looking at the
00:40:20.820 corinthian letter with the raven and that's what it says when paul says we're just ministers
00:40:24.880 remember he says one waters he said i planted apollos watered so what are we we're just ministers
00:40:30.540 in english that we're serving boys dude it means deacon it's like daikonos in greek and yeah the
00:40:37.520 core of it is like errand boy it's like that's great we're just those that run errands for god
00:40:42.640 we're just we're told what to do we don't pick what we're doing we're told what to do and we're
00:40:47.280 errand boys for god yeah yeah i watered because i was told to water because i'm a i'm in fellowship
00:40:51.500 with god i'm a co-laborer together with god i don't want to unpack the whole corinthian thing
00:40:56.420 but no no it's just because i'm reminded of my childhood and uh when i grew up in the black
00:41:00.980 church and it'd be like deacon william has something to say and deacon william like
00:41:04.440 shuffled to the front like and he was like deacon you know it was a title but it means
00:41:09.300 yeah dude yeah amen it means what a contradiction they had there yeah but dude it's paul's saying
00:41:17.020 that so he's not even like deacon such and such from your church like it's paul it's the apostle
00:41:23.240 paul he's referring to himself as a deacon as a servant i just i don't i think we've lost sight
00:41:29.620 of that dude it's like yeah the guy in the pulpit on sunday morning the guy with the microphone
00:41:33.740 That dude is an errand boy for God.
00:41:36.020 As long as we keep that, we'd probably be doing good.
00:41:38.680 When we lose sight of that, it can go off the rails.
00:41:42.040 All right, I kind of was just looking for a reason
00:41:44.400 to throw this story in there, to be honest.
00:41:46.340 I love this story in Luke 2.
00:41:48.300 It's Luke 2, 25 through 38.
00:41:51.380 And the reason I got it in there is just,
00:41:53.100 it's an example of some, two people actually
00:41:56.100 seeking the kingdom of God, man.
00:41:58.220 These are just like heavy and weighty examples to me
00:42:00.840 because they, they both seem like whole, whole heart, whole lives, whole lives set on God, like
00:42:07.020 waiting on, waiting for his kingdom. And I just really liked the story. All right. It starts in
00:42:12.100 Luke two 25. It goes like this. It says, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon
00:42:17.160 and the same man was just a devout waiting for the consolation of Israel. And the Holy ghost was
00:42:22.760 upon him. You know, this is before the day of Pentecost and it was revealed unto him by the
00:42:28.500 Holy Ghost. I don't know how much we've said that lately, man, about how God has to be revealed by
00:42:33.580 the Holy Ghost. It was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost that he should not see death before
00:42:39.840 he had seen the Lord's Christ, right? So they have these prophecies. They have these promises
00:42:45.640 of the Messiah all through the Old Testament. And the Holy Ghost has revealed to this dude,
00:42:50.100 Simeon, you're not going to die till you see the Messiah. Isn't that wild? I don't think he went
00:42:57.040 out and did like seminars and took up offerings and said, listen, brother, that, you know, God
00:43:04.120 does say at the Lord, I'm going to see the Messiah. Everybody, you know, I don't think
00:43:07.620 you don't get the feeling he's doing any of that. You don't get the feeling he's trying to capitalize
00:43:10.660 on that. You get the feeling. He's just like, yeah, man, I'm going to see the Messiah. And
00:43:14.960 like, that's just a thrust and focus of his life, man. And he came by the spirit because remember
00:43:19.720 the spirit revealed it to him. He came by the spirit into the temple. And when the parents
00:43:24.540 brought in the child Jesus to do for him after the custom of the law. Then took he him up in
00:43:29.440 his arms and bless God. Did he just grab him? I don't know, man. I don't feel weird when I ask
00:43:36.540 people if I can hold their baby, dude. I think it's because I read stuff like this, man. It says,
00:43:40.100 then took he him up in his arms and bless God and said, Lord, now let us thou thy servant depart in
00:43:46.480 peace according to thy word. He says, man, I could die now. I'm good. Let your servant depart in
00:43:52.940 peace according to your word for my eyes have seen thy salvation salvation was through a man
00:43:59.780 which thou has prepared before the face of all people a light to lighten the gentiles
00:44:05.600 in the glory of thy people israel and joseph and his mother marveled at those things which
00:44:11.220 were spoken of him so joseph and mary are watching this whole thing and they're marveling that he's
00:44:16.560 saying this and simeon blessed them and said unto mary his mother behold this child is set for the
00:44:22.920 fall and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be spoken against.
00:44:28.640 Yeah, a sword shall pierce through your own soul also, that the thoughts of many hearts may be
00:44:33.360 revealed. And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher.
00:44:40.060 She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity.
00:44:44.700 And she was a widow of about 84 years, which departed not from the temple, but served God
00:44:51.980 with fasting and prayers night and day.
00:44:54.420 These are people who are sold out, dude.
00:44:56.780 And she coming in that instant
00:44:58.320 gave thanks likewise unto the Lord.
00:45:00.680 So she comes up like while this is happening,
00:45:03.200 she comes in that instant,
00:45:05.220 gave thanks likewise unto the Lord
00:45:07.040 and spake of him to all them
00:45:09.160 that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
00:45:11.000 So she goes on to like tell everybody.
00:45:14.020 And when they had performed all things
00:45:15.640 according to the law of the Lord, 0.86
00:45:17.060 they returned into Galilee
00:45:18.240 to their own city, Nazareth.
00:45:20.080 So I just like these stories, dude,
00:45:21.760 because it just feels like people who are sold out for God.
00:45:27.100 These are people who are seeking the kingdom of God and his righteousness.
00:45:29.860 You don't get the feeling that that widow is seeking anything else in life.
00:45:33.100 Do you think that Mary and Joseph were surprised
00:45:36.840 because of the mention of the Gentiles?
00:45:38.720 Because wouldn't they have already known this about Jesus?
00:45:43.720 There's other places where it's like they say something
00:45:46.500 and it's like Mary pondered it and stores it up in her heart.
00:45:49.980 I don't know, man.
00:45:50.840 I think even if an angel comes and tells you you're giving birth to God, I know this sounds
00:45:57.600 crazy, dude, but I just wonder if the busyness of life just starts happening, man, and things
00:46:02.260 start going.
00:46:03.440 A lot of diapers.
00:46:04.540 It's like, you know, okay, you know what I've been told.
00:46:08.620 This is the Messiah.
00:46:09.920 This is the Son of God.
00:46:11.540 Now he's born.
00:46:13.780 I don't think there's anything in that where she was like, what?
00:46:15.940 He is?
00:46:16.880 I don't think so.
00:46:18.120 I don't think she thought, well, maybe I was just dreaming.
00:46:19.940 I don't think that, but maybe the fact that other people know is like what shocked her.
00:46:25.020 Like, okay, like we know this.
00:46:26.480 Like we're like, you know, maybe Mary and Joseph looked at each other.
00:46:28.820 They're like, yo, we're the only ones that know this.
00:46:30.740 But now this guy knows too.
00:46:33.460 And so does the, so does Anna.
00:46:35.100 Now Simeon knows.
00:46:35.960 And so does Anna, you know, and they're marveling.
00:46:38.700 They're saying like, well, I wonder who else knows.
00:46:41.000 Cause it's not many, man.
00:46:42.500 I mean, that's the wild thing about as the, as his life unfolds is not many know it's him.
00:46:47.340 those two did when he's a baby right right when he's born yeah it's just interesting man i think
00:46:53.020 people like that those are people seeking the kingdom of god they know these secrets they know
00:46:57.100 these mysteries like secret things belong to god but those that have been revealed belong into
00:47:02.460 people like simeon and anna you know like they're going after god they know these secrets man that
00:47:06.640 nobody else knows and i don't think like i said i don't think they're using it to like capitalize and
00:47:11.640 do seminars and taking offerings for it it's just they're just they have a life in god
00:47:16.480 all right i'll say a thing about verse 34 real quick it's just uh before we before we um we're
00:47:22.880 going to get into the ending here in a minute verse 34 just says take therefore no thought for
00:47:27.200 tomorrow for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself sufficient unto the day is the
00:47:31.000 evil thereof i think i said it earlier but like you can't kill tomorrow's anxiety by being anxious
00:47:35.920 about it today right the solution is seek god the anxiety is not the solution right and it's a hard
00:47:41.880 thing to learn and to put into practice. But that's what we're taught in scripture.
00:47:48.380 In this word evil, it says, take therefore no thought for tomorrow, for tomorrow will take
00:47:52.620 thought for the things of itself. Sufficient on the day is the evil thereof. It really means like
00:47:56.080 perplexity. Like tomorrow will have its own perplexities that your anxiety today will do
00:48:01.580 nothing about, right? This is very real to me because I didn't know there was a thing called
00:48:10.060 the Sunday scaries do you know what I'm talking about no you don't know no yeah it's where you
00:48:14.360 get like so nervous and anxiety about the Monday work day oh yeah uh I used to get that with school
00:48:20.600 though dude I used to get it like I was a UFC title fighter with like a title fight Monday
00:48:25.120 morning at eight like I used to get so anxiety Sunday night about work yeah and it was like I
00:48:31.240 don't know dude it went on for I've been a full-time worker since I was 16 I mean I was well
00:48:36.080 into my 20s dude till i was like bro how many mondays have you gone through now like the world
00:48:43.680 doesn't blow up on monday let's tell you how bad i had that that occasionally when i don't really
00:48:48.440 have dreams that much but when i do have dreams it will be of that because i have to go to school
00:48:54.440 and it's a project or something i haven't oh you still have stressful like nightmare dreams about
00:48:58.440 school every so often less and less but like same those are the only kind of crazy like stressful
00:49:04.340 dreams i have i'm like why is it always about so it's a deep-seated trauma in my life i guess
00:49:09.620 think about it that's where we got like shaped and told like this is reality yeah you know what i
00:49:14.820 mean it was it wasn't like a natural growing up where you're just growing up like playing in the
00:49:21.060 river playing in the creek and swinging on a swing and taking care of your chickens and going out and
00:49:26.500 you know working with your mom or your dad in the garden and it's like no no you're in this
00:49:30.100 institution single file line getting a single file line you talk when you're not supposed to
00:49:33.700 a talk you're in trouble dude that is so crushing you want to talk about a yoke and a burden that is
00:49:38.700 a yoke and does american school system i know there's normal people dude even bella she thrived
00:49:44.440 in it but i i don't know i it gave her anxiety and like yeah you know what i mean like that system is
00:49:50.720 very destructive to the human spirit it seems it's like teaching a human at a very early age like
00:49:56.340 you're an eagle stuck in a cage do not get out of the cage yeah i mean there's also a trade-off of
00:50:01.960 what you can learn from it um but yeah there's certainly an aspect global warming and no not
00:50:08.700 like the things you can learn but the ethic that you can learn to the work ethic to learn you know
00:50:14.260 what i mean i think i don't know but again my kids don't go they don't go to school so i'm not i'm
00:50:18.540 not promoting it but i'm saying that there is something about that that's like i was a teacher 0.99
00:50:23.360 i would tell people like if you don't if this isn't for you it's not because you're stupid 0.99
00:50:27.520 I think that'd be a very important thing 0.99
00:50:29.380 for teachers to tell kids.
00:50:30.360 You'd be fired.
00:50:32.300 That's what you need.
00:50:32.960 No, I'm just saying it's like this idea
00:50:34.520 that like, oh, if you can't do this this way, 1.00
00:50:36.720 you're stupid. 1.00
00:50:37.620 And then you find out like, no, no, 1.00
00:50:39.200 there's like a lot of people
00:50:40.260 that can't do that, dude.
00:50:42.100 As a matter of fact,
00:50:42.780 the most successful people
00:50:43.840 are the people who haven't done it your way.
00:50:45.860 Those are the ones that are making new things,
00:50:47.540 but that's an aside.
00:50:48.680 Okay, the end of this section,
00:50:50.180 we're going to wrap it up with this
00:50:51.320 because I think verse 25 says an interesting thing.
00:50:53.540 It says, you know,
00:50:56.000 it says, take no thought for your life. Don't have any anxiety for your life. What you shall eat,
00:50:59.700 what you shall drink, you know what you're going to put on your body for clothes, what you shall
00:51:04.860 put on is not the life. That's the question that says in the King James, it says, is not the life
00:51:11.000 more. And then it goes on. It says more than me, you know, in your body, more than clothes.
00:51:16.260 But I like this phrase, man, is not the life more. Isn't there something more to life? And I,
00:51:23.160 and it is answered in verse 33, man, because it says, is not the life more? Yeah, like I know the
00:51:30.040 commas and zeros in the bank account, they're really important, man. The house is really
00:51:33.000 important. The cars are really important. All the things and the stuff, they're really important.
00:51:37.080 But isn't there more? Isn't there more? And that's what 33 is the answer to, man. But seek. You go,
00:51:43.820 oh, there is more. There is more to this whole thing. Like, yeah, I was doing the thing in the
00:51:49.180 kindergarten all the way to like the senior year of high school. And like, it just seemed like
00:51:54.380 something's not right. Yeah. Because there was more, there was always more, right? Like I loved
00:51:59.420 drugs because it took me out of that so-called reality and gave me a different reality. But
00:52:03.680 that's just because I was a pilgrim and a stranger that never belonged in that system to begin with
00:52:07.340 is not the life more. And this, and this is saying, yeah, there's more, man. There's more
00:52:12.580 seek the kingdom of God. It's unseen. It's an eternal unseen realm. Seek that. That's why
00:52:18.340 you're having anxiety because you think all the rules just apply to this natural realm punch in
00:52:23.500 punch out mow the lawn wash the car no wonder you have anxiety right like no like no wonder people
00:52:29.480 are having a rough time we're not close to the end i got a full page here i'm just saying like
00:52:33.360 this is like towards the end so i want to pull up this ecclesiastes 311 do you have any of these uh
00:52:39.480 okay so ecclesiastes 311 says uh something very intriguing very intriguing you know we got to
00:52:45.740 remember, it's written by a guy who's kind of lost sight of eternity, but he's saying some
00:52:49.820 profound things. Speaking of God, he hath made everything beautiful in his time. Also, he has
00:52:55.820 set the world in their heart. That word world, I'm not exactly sure what the Hebrew word is,
00:53:01.440 but in other translations, it's translated eternity. He hath set eternity in their heart
00:53:08.800 so that no man can find out the work that God makes from the beginning to the end.
00:53:12.360 so he puts this mystery in us like there like there's there's something more and somewhere
00:53:18.340 inside of us we know there's something more how deep inside i suppose it's different for different
00:53:22.900 people man right like the guy who's just forsaken all for all the dollars and the material gain and
00:53:28.420 the lust of the flesh maybe it's way deeper down in there but he's got eternity set in his heart
00:53:33.860 man that word olam olam yeah olam it means uh i feel like there's a music guy named olam and
00:53:39.500 that's what it means it's like eternity yeah long duration antiquity futurity forever ever yeah
00:53:45.400 forever ever yeah dude it's that is set in men's hearts dude eternity is in our hearts like and
00:53:51.940 i think you think about that for a minute you're like yeah i knew that i always knew there was
00:53:57.200 more man i knew there was more than mowing the lawn and washing the car like i knew that there
00:54:01.140 was something more and he's put that inside of us like he's placed something inside of us that knows
00:54:05.820 there's more but what are we going to do with that and i think the more we try to silence that
00:54:10.060 that probably leads to the most anxiety right so seeking god is this endless adventure
00:54:15.540 that you won't get bored of that's another great thing man like all the things in the earth dude
00:54:21.280 you can play fortnight it's super fun for a while and then it just gets lame after a while
00:54:25.280 yeah you know or you could like whatever the other hobbies and things and stuff are
00:54:29.280 you know you can watch movies but like eventually you're just like okay this is getting old like
00:54:34.180 the seeking of God doesn't get old, right? Now, the religious plateau happens, like the people 0.56
00:54:40.300 who are in the church system and get burned out by the church system, those stories are unlimited.
00:54:45.120 Those stories are all through every denomination, all through church in America. But that's like
00:54:50.700 a religious system that you've grown burnt out from. That is not the same as seeking God,
00:54:56.680 not even remotely close. That might be the most destructive to seeking God because it's a
00:55:02.080 counterfeit. If you're seeking drugs and then you turn to God, you know those are in stark
00:55:08.480 opposition. Those are different things. But when you're seeking this religious institution
00:55:13.460 and the gain that comes from that, maybe the dopamine rush or whatever it is, when you're
00:55:18.160 in a religious system and thriving and doing good and people think you're cool inside that system,
00:55:22.840 that's a counterfeit. You're getting tricked by it. That's the one that'll really take you off
00:55:26.480 the rails. And when you hit that religious plateau, that can be an end. But there's no 0.83
00:55:31.480 end to the actual seeking of god all right psalms 103 13 through 16 says this psalms 103 13 through 16
00:55:47.080 like as a father pitieth his his children so the lord pitieth them that fear him
00:55:52.280 for he knoweth our frame he remembereth what that we are dust for um for man as for man
00:55:59.480 His days are as grass, as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.
00:56:03.420 So we're back at this flower thing, right?
00:56:05.320 Remember we read last week or maybe two weeks ago, like in the same passage, look at the
00:56:09.440 birds, look at the flowers of the field.
00:56:12.780 It's the same concept.
00:56:14.160 Like as a father pities his children, right?
00:56:17.100 This is the context through this whole thing, right?
00:56:19.920 Is that God's our father.
00:56:21.280 He's the provider, right?
00:56:22.900 This is kind of summing up this whole thing right here, actually.
00:56:25.380 And maybe Jesus is even drawing from this and is thinking, like, as he, as he's saying this
00:56:29.240 around the mountain, maybe he's even thinking about this in the Psalms. Like, as a father
00:56:32.840 pities his children, cares for them, provides for them. So the Lord pities them that fear him
00:56:37.480 for he knows our frame. Like, that's the context here. He knows, man, that we're just dust.
00:56:44.440 He's like, Hey, that's my guy down there, but he's made of dirt, man. Like he's got a spirit
00:56:47.900 inside of him, but he's just made of dirt. That's fragile. Like, I know that I got, I know what it's,
00:56:52.980 especially now Jesus has come down and lived the life here as a man.
00:56:55.840 He says, I know what that's like.
00:56:57.840 I know all the things down there.
00:56:59.160 I know what that's like, man.
00:57:00.260 He's dust, he's fragile, but he pities his children and cares for them,
00:57:04.560 and he has compassion on them and takes care of them, right?
00:57:08.640 As for man, his days are as grass, as a flower in the field, so he flourishes, right?
00:57:13.320 But it's temporary.
00:57:14.940 That's the point we want to get at here.
00:57:16.200 For the wind passes over it, and it's gone, and the place thereof shall know it no more, man. 0.64
00:57:22.040 So we have to balance the reality of the 120 years of the dirt man with the reality of our eternal nature and decide which one we're going to live for, right?
00:57:32.980 God has mercy, love, and compassion for us as we work through it.
00:57:37.500 That's what I'm saying.
00:57:38.060 Like he pities them like a father, like he wants to work with us.
00:57:42.940 But we have to decide here which one are we going for, man.
00:57:46.380 this, this dirt man life that is described as being like a grass or being like a flower
00:57:52.780 and how quick it goes. Are we going to spend all of our life on that? Or are we going to focus on
00:57:58.140 eternity? All right. If we look at James four, 13 and 14, this is saying something too, man,
00:58:05.880 in regards to like, these, these are just going to be passages to talk about how quick life is,
00:58:10.100 man, how temporary it is. He says, go to now you that say today or tomorrow, we will go into such
00:58:17.420 a city and continue there a year and buy and sell and get gain. Whereas you know, not what shall be
00:58:22.680 tomorrow. Right. So what this passage was saying earlier too, is like, don't, you know, don't worry
00:58:27.940 about the anxieties of tomorrow. There'll be plenty of anxieties tomorrow. Don't worry about
00:58:31.080 the perplexities. Whereas you know, not what shall be tomorrow for what is your life. It's a vapor.
00:58:36.420 it's a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away
00:58:42.340 that's staggering a vapor that's like when the when you make the coffee with the uh gooseneck
00:58:49.300 kettle and the steam comes off of it you could go like that and it just it's a vapor or like
00:58:54.920 the batch brew machine you go to pour the first coffee it's like super hot and it steams like
00:58:59.100 that you go like that it's a vapor it's gone dude it's like it's that it's almost kind of
00:59:04.740 not even really there to begin with dude a vapor you know what i'm saying it's like a it's a vapor
00:59:10.020 but it's you can't touch it he's like dude your life is that quick it's that quick and and this
00:59:16.440 passage isn't saying like don't make decisions like don't don't plan for your future when he
00:59:20.400 says you know you guys say you're going to go do this and go do that tomorrow and go to another
00:59:24.080 city and get gain and do all these things he's just saying don't make decisions without god in
00:59:28.820 the calculation it's crazy when you consider like the idea of a vapor even if you had like a lot of
00:59:33.440 like an entire civilization of people that equals some condensation on your window you know yeah
00:59:41.280 yeah that's like the most but then you're going into a very real realm right the opposite of that
00:59:45.840 is the reality that we're going into a very real eternal realm right so do people think about how
00:59:51.040 quick their life is and and uh that it'll be over and the fact that it'll be over that's guaranteed
00:59:59.040 dude. I don't think people think about that, man. Like your life is very short. It's like grass.
01:00:05.860 It's like a flower. It's like a vapor that's kind of there, but kind of not. And then it's
01:00:10.740 guaranteed that it's coming to an end. How many people like live light, live life in light of the
01:00:17.860 reality that like, this is definitely coming to an end. It's guaranteed, dude. Like, like I'm very
01:00:26.020 positive, I'm going to eat lunch today, right? It's more guaranteed that I'm going to die one day.
01:00:33.860 You think I shouldn't be thinking about that? I shouldn't be thinking about eternity
01:00:37.440 and like what's next? And furthermore, what do I want my death to look like? Like,
01:00:41.540 do I want to be on my deathbed and have like so-called regrets? Dude, I don't want that
01:00:47.460 because in that moment, there's nothing left to do. There's no fixing it. You know, in life,
01:00:51.740 if you can screw things up and you go, man, we're in a rough spot now, but I can kind of shake and
01:00:56.300 maneuver and shift and kind of correct this, do it on a deathbed. You can't do anything.
01:01:01.660 Yeah. Like that's it. I don't want to be there and be like, oh no, I should have did such and
01:01:07.280 such a thing. I should have lived my life in such a way. I should have thought about eternity. I
01:01:11.820 should have prayed more. I should have like read my Bible more. I should have known God more. I
01:01:15.280 should have poured into the people around me more. That's anxiety, huh? It sure could cause it,
01:01:20.320 right? If you're not doing those things, but I'm just saying at the end, dude, yeah, that would be
01:01:24.980 like the ultimate anxiety about tomorrow, right? Yeah. I'm just saying the Bible goes to great
01:01:34.520 lengths to explain to us that our life is very temporary, right? And so do I really, like in
01:01:39.220 light of all that, do I really want to live for temporary luxuries? I think food is the big one
01:01:44.440 because you end up just crapping it out, right? Like that's one that like people love to spend
01:01:48.620 expensive money for food and i'm not just talking about for like healthy food because it costs so
01:01:53.180 much to buy healthy food today but i'm just saying like fancy restaurant food that one seems the most
01:01:58.300 silly i met a guy the other day he's uh he called himself an epicurean which is like a person that
01:02:05.180 enjoys the finer things in life uh food being one of them and i thought about that immediately 0.94
01:02:11.500 because like like he has like a a refined palate and he's telling me about all the things and i go
01:02:15.900 So you pooped that out, huh?
01:02:18.280 Like I didn't say it to him, but I was just thinking like,
01:02:20.960 oh, you know, good for you, I guess,
01:02:22.540 if that's what you're into.
01:02:23.640 But it's just, for me, I'm like, what a waste of time.
01:02:25.840 But in the end, it's all that.
01:02:27.460 I don't care if it's fancy cars or fancy houses
01:02:29.960 or fancy jets or fancy like, I don't know.
01:02:32.760 Whatever, dude, the people are spending
01:02:34.120 a lot of money on the stuff, dude.
01:02:35.880 They have this thing called like GDP.
01:02:38.000 There's these numbers and there's like
01:02:40.260 these retail numbers that come out
01:02:42.140 and there's like stock market companies
01:02:43.800 that post their number.
01:02:44.960 dude people are spending money on tons of stuff dude i don't know what all normal people like
01:02:49.520 spend money on but they're spending money on a lot of stuff it's all just food they're pooping
01:02:54.240 out in the end dude you know what i'm saying even the vehicle who was i just talking to about it oh
01:02:59.820 my this my buddy at the gym i got this new buddy at the gym this lawyer and uh but he's like humble
01:03:05.960 with the money like with the buying of the stuff we've been having some interesting conversations
01:03:11.700 but uh he doesn't he doesn't spend much money and we were talking about how like i read the
01:03:17.480 menu from right to left like when i'm in a restaurant or like if i'm looking for clothes
01:03:21.300 i go to the clearance rack and just see if something will fit you know i don't pick the
01:03:24.900 best thing and we were it was kind of cool man because the lawyer dude's got a lot of money
01:03:29.540 investments and stuff but we were just talking about like the meaninglessness of just buying
01:03:34.920 the fancy things and the fancy stuff yeah so i don't know all right ecclesiastes 6 11 says this
01:03:42.280 you know that i tried to just make this a full study this time
01:03:48.680 you know how before i told well i just before it's always just like this rolling study it's
01:03:53.700 just we're just gonna roll so if i don't finish the notes it'll just roll right into the next one
01:03:58.840 yeah but this one's like a hard finish because we're finishing chapter six and then heart you
01:04:02.780 know seven verse one is a clean cut yeah yeah so i just did this and i think i i think i got it on
01:04:08.280 time do you think it's like it's okay because i'm just i'm like oh if i make a hard finish and a
01:04:12.680 hard stop what if it's three hours or what if it's 45 minutes whatever you do whatever you want no i
01:04:18.040 know but i don't like to keep you here i know you're a busy man all right so six uh ecclesiastes
01:04:21.900 6 11 and 12 says this it says seeing there be many things that increase vanity or emptiness
01:04:28.680 Seeing there be many things that increase emptiness.
01:04:31.880 What is the man better?
01:04:34.240 Okay, we got to keep in mind that this is written by someone who's lost sight of eternity, right?
01:04:38.680 If you read Ecclesiastes, all of this phrase keeps popping up over and over, under the sun, under the sun, under the sun.
01:04:45.060 He's talking about the temporary realm.
01:04:47.240 It's weird because it doesn't seem like he's lost sight of God.
01:04:50.560 He's got concepts of God and it mentions of God, but it's just in light of the temporary realm.
01:04:58.020 that it's just temporary.
01:04:59.440 It's very intriguing, man.
01:05:01.640 It's very intriguing.
01:05:02.980 If you look at Solomon's life
01:05:04.360 and you look at like David's view of eternity, 0.95
01:05:07.960 because even when David sins with Bathsheba
01:05:09.640 and they have the child
01:05:11.060 and then God strikes the child sick
01:05:13.460 and the child dies and he's fasting
01:05:15.780 and he's hoping that God will save the child,
01:05:20.340 then the child dies
01:05:21.400 and then he just kind of like packs up
01:05:22.840 and gets like moving.
01:05:23.840 And they go, whoa, whoa,
01:05:24.800 like you were all messed up
01:05:26.620 when he was still alive.
01:05:27.420 now that he's dead, you're like, okay. He says, yeah, there's nothing I can do now. I can't bring
01:05:31.440 him back to me, but I will go be with him. So David has this concept of eternity. He has this
01:05:37.180 concept of the eternal realm. Very clearly, he makes that clear by that statement. I'd argue
01:05:43.620 the end of Job makes that clear too, because he starts with seven sons and three daughters,
01:05:47.680 whatever it is. He got 10 kids. And then in the end, when he gets double everything, he gets
01:05:50.760 double the camels and double the chickens and whatever, he doesn't get double the kids. He
01:05:55.460 just gets 10 kids again you look at that that makes me think like yeah they had a concept of
01:06:00.560 eternity in the eternal realm he will have double right there's the animals that's that wouldn't
01:06:05.020 apply to that with the humans he's got double in the eternal realm solomon seems to have lost sight
01:06:10.420 of the eternal realm is what it is what it seems like right especially as you read ecclesiastes
01:06:15.820 always this phrase under the sun under the sun under the sun lost sight of his own soul you mean
01:06:20.480 i don't know man i don't know i mean what it's it seems like a fair description of him right if he 0.99
01:06:28.800 if like the whole thrust of his life is just banging hoes from all these other countries and 0.98
01:06:33.220 stuff like all these other nations even to the point of like worshiping false gods and building 0.98
01:06:37.960 like these temples to false gods i know we can get into like the key greater and lesser keys of
01:06:41.900 solomon we get in all this extra biblical stuff but i'm just saying like even if you just go
01:06:45.300 straight bible you go this is an intriguing thing with this dude man like did he lose sight of
01:06:50.560 eternity but he still knows he still he still understands that there's a god there but has lost
01:06:57.720 because i don't think you lose sight of eternity if you understand god but you you can lose your
01:07:02.240 soul paul says this in the corinthian letter he says um well i didn't read the corinthian
01:07:06.360 i'm not on those episodes if our hope of god is in this life only we are of all men most miserable
01:07:13.200 That's what he says, dude.
01:07:14.360 So it's like, you don't lose sight of God, right?
01:07:18.060 And how much is set up around God just based on the temporary natural realm benefits today, dude?
01:07:23.500 How many people are so-called Christians because of the benefits and gain they get in natural life?
01:07:30.120 Yeah. 0.97
01:07:30.480 So yeah, he says that.
01:07:31.760 He says, if our hope of God is in this life only, we are of all men most miserable.
01:07:37.120 So yeah, I think that's a passage that made me start to think about Solomon like that.
01:07:40.660 was like, dude, did he, he didn't lose sight of God, but it was, what it was as far as this life
01:07:45.280 only. And that's a man, you look at him, you say, dude, he's become most miserable. He spent his 0.88
01:07:50.460 life just on chicks from other nations, dude, to the point of like trying to satisfy and please
01:07:55.440 them by building temples of worship to false gods and stuff. But, but if he's lost, if he's lost the
01:08:01.840 fear of God, if he's lost sight of like, it's like, well, yeah, in the end, it's just, I'm just 0.87
01:08:05.480 going to be on the earth for so long and I'll just bone all these chicks and just do my thing.
01:08:09.040 like yeah it's all good like i'll get the gain that i get from the god from the true god but i'll 0.99
01:08:13.420 get this gain that i'm getting with all these chicks over here by worshiping their gods and
01:08:17.580 i don't know i don't know man it's mysterious the solomon story is like very depressing for me
01:08:22.700 because i didn't you already told you like i didn't know he fell off for like eight years and
01:08:26.360 then and then one day i read that he fell off like eight years later and i was like depressed for a
01:08:30.540 week dude because i had like shook my view of reality i was like dude i didn't know that he
01:08:35.320 fell off. And I didn't know he could fall off like that, like that, like man. Okay. But anyway,
01:08:40.920 it says this, it says, seeing there be many things that increase emptiness. What is man,
01:08:45.520 the better for who knows what is good for man in this life, all the days of his empty life,
01:08:52.460 which he spends as a shadow for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun.
01:08:58.620 That's this whole context is like, if everything just revolves around what comes after you under
01:09:03.020 the sun. Who knows what dynasty comes next or what nation rises up next or whatever. This is
01:09:09.460 all in light of just the natural realm. But he talks about life as being a shadow. So we've got
01:09:16.940 these ideas of it being a vapor. Life's a vapor. Life's a shadow. Life is a grass. It's just so
01:09:24.720 quick and so fleeting. But a shadow is real, but it's not the full story. If there's a shadow,
01:09:30.100 then there's got to be something more and i feel like that's what we keep coming back to is there's
01:09:34.980 something more right there's eternity is set in man's heart he knows there's something more our
01:09:41.300 life is a shadow that means there must be something more well yeah the vapor there's something that
01:09:45.540 that originates from there's something more that creates that vapor the grass there's the entire
01:09:50.340 earth that creates that grass so there's something always yes behind this concept of life yeah and
01:09:56.180 And we're just like the hair, the hair on your head, right?
01:09:59.360 The hair on your head falls out, but like you as an entire body are much more than that one hair.
01:10:04.180 Yeah, you are.
01:10:05.340 No, you.
01:10:08.020 So I don't know, man.
01:10:09.140 This is like a, I don't know.
01:10:11.000 This is a heavy topic, man.
01:10:12.900 All right, we're going to get into a couple passages real quick about sojourners or pilgrims and strangers.
01:10:18.720 And then this will be really close to the end.
01:10:20.340 This is 1 Chronicles 29, 10 through 19.
01:10:26.720 It's in man to know that there's something more.
01:10:29.660 I think that's really what, you know, what is a big thing here, man.
01:10:32.920 That's why he says, but seek.
01:10:34.220 He's a God that hides, but seek the kingdom of God.
01:10:36.800 Like, you know, there's more, you know, there's more.
01:10:39.180 And the longer you just, you know, deny that and pretend that that's not true, like the worse it gets, the more anxiety you have.
01:10:47.720 Wherefore, David blessed the Lord before all the congregation.
01:10:51.560 This is towards the end of his life.
01:10:52.800 He's handing off the kingdom to Solomon.
01:10:54.180 wherefore david blessed the lord before all the congregation and david said blessed be thou lord
01:11:00.160 god of israel our father forever and ever thine o lord is the greatness and the power and the
01:11:05.360 glory and the victory and the majesty for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine
01:11:09.100 i love what he's about to unpack here thine is the kingdom o lord and thou are exalted as head
01:11:15.200 above all both riches and honor come from you and you reign over all and in your hand is power and
01:11:21.780 might. And in thine hand, it is to make great and to give strength unto all. Everything comes from
01:11:28.180 you, God. Now, therefore, our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name. But who am I?
01:11:34.180 And what is my people that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? He's got this,
01:11:39.920 he's prepared for the temple, like he's preparing everything. He can't build the temple,
01:11:43.960 right? But he can prepare all the stuff ahead of time for Solomon. And he's doing the sacrifice.
01:11:47.760 he sacrifices big. Who am I and what is my people that we should be able to offer so
01:11:52.560 willingly after this sort for all things come of you and of your own. Have we given me like,
01:11:58.800 yeah, we've got all this sacrifice. I've stored up like gold, silver, timber, all this stuff to
01:12:04.620 build this temple, but it's all yours to begin with. Like what have, what have I really given
01:12:09.820 you for? We are strangers before you. Look at this concept of life. We're strangers before you
01:12:17.120 and sojourners, as were all our fathers. Our days on the earth are just a shadow and there's none
01:12:23.880 abiding. Oh Lord, our God, all this store that we have prepared to build you a house for your holy
01:12:30.520 name comes from your hand and it's all your own. He's like, yeah, we're doing this thing.
01:12:37.640 We're building this building, but it all comes from you to begin with. I'm not really giving
01:12:42.940 you anything. It all belongs to you. I know also, my God, that you try the heart and has pleasure
01:12:49.180 in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart, I have willingly offered all these
01:12:54.540 things, and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer willingly unto
01:13:01.540 thee. O Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the imagination
01:13:09.840 of the thoughts of the heart of the people and prepare their heart unto thee and give unto Solomon,
01:13:15.540 my son, a perfect heart. So he prays for this. He prays that Solomon would have a perfect heart
01:13:21.080 to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies and thy statutes, and to do all these things
01:13:25.720 and to build the palace for the which I have made provision. So I was just keying in on David saying,
01:13:32.620 look, life is a shadow. Everything belongs to God in the first place. What am I really giving to him?
01:13:39.080 What am I really accumulating for myself if I came in the world with nothing and I leave
01:13:43.060 with nothing?
01:13:44.180 Just want to emphasize this point.
01:13:45.400 It's all just luggage.
01:13:46.320 We're pilgrims and strangers on this adventure to seek God, and all that stuff's just luggage,
01:13:51.680 right?
01:13:52.880 And I don't know.
01:13:54.260 I wonder, did David spend too much time on the provisions for Solomon in the natural
01:13:57.920 temporary realm and kind of lose sight of the eternal?
01:14:01.680 I don't know.
01:14:02.400 I don't know.
01:14:02.720 He prayed for him that he'd have a perfect heart.
01:14:04.320 Like, we know that.
01:14:04.920 But, like, did he get so caught up on storing up this natural provision for him to build the temple and forget to, like, instill in him, like, hey, dude, it's God and God alone.
01:14:16.060 Don't go crazy for the chicks, dude.
01:14:17.720 Like, bro, your dad of all people knows what it's like to go crazy for the chicks.
01:14:21.480 And then it takes you off the rails, dude.
01:14:23.380 Like, don't do that.
01:14:24.300 Make sure you have a heart set for God and never turn from him and never worship false gods.
01:14:28.640 I don't know, man.
01:14:29.460 Did he lose that emphasis?
01:14:32.040 I don't know.
01:14:32.520 It's weird because you see all the kings that have that, you know, they're raised up in Israel and then they have a bad son, man.
01:14:38.920 Like even the ones that know God, then they raise up a son who just goes off the rails.
01:14:43.560 And so there's this preparation like, hey, man, we prepare for our kids in the natural.
01:14:47.340 I'm trying to help my kids out in the natural, but the eternal is the most important.
01:14:52.500 All right.
01:14:52.800 One Peter 2.11 says this.
01:14:54.520 We only got a couple of passages left.
01:15:02.520 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war
01:15:09.900 against the soul. So fleshly lusts war against the soul. We got to keep that in mind, man. We're
01:15:15.020 talking about eternity. We're talking about all the other stuff, the money that pierced people's
01:15:20.280 through with many sorrows. There's these fleshly lusts. They're carnal, temporary desires, and
01:15:26.780 they're destructive because we lose sight that we're a pilgrim and a stranger because of those
01:15:30.920 things. You know, Galatians 5, 16 and 17, do we have that in the notes? Galatians 5, 16 and 17
01:15:37.920 kind of sums this up good as well. It just says, this I say, then walk in the spirit and you shall
01:15:44.500 not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Like these are, these are things, man, walk in the spirit,
01:15:49.060 walk in light of eternity, in light of eternal things, not in the temporary fleshly desires,
01:15:54.360 right? Because the flesh lusts against the spirit and the spirit against the flesh. That's why,
01:15:59.260 man. And these are contrary to one to the other so that you cannot do the things that you would
01:16:03.940 people who just crave and desire the temporary realm luxuries. It takes them off the rails
01:16:10.560 because those two are contradictory, man. You've got to focus on the eternal, the money and the
01:16:15.260 things of the stuff. I know that's not saying anything new. That's what we've been unpacking
01:16:18.180 in this whole passage, especially that Timothy passage. It's like those things will take you
01:16:22.480 off the rails. Uh, Galatians six, seven, and eight, I think says it even more plain than that.
01:16:29.260 it says, be not deceived. God is not mocked for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap
01:16:36.480 for he that sows to the flesh, right? Carnal desires, carnal luxuries, fleshly lust,
01:16:46.000 right? He that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that sows to the
01:16:51.280 spirit shall of the spirit reap life everlasting. Those are your choices, man. Spend your life
01:16:56.820 focused on the flesh, the natural, the carnal, the temporary realm, or the eternal. Those are
01:17:01.760 the choices. All right. Hebrews 11, 13 through 16 says this. It says, these all died in faith,
01:17:14.660 not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off and were persuaded of them and
01:17:19.380 embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. So there
01:17:23.020 they died in faith. They didn't receive these things, but they saw them afar off. They saw
01:17:27.700 the unseen. And that was what their thrust and focus of their life was, was seeking the kingdom
01:17:32.080 of God. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country or a kingdom.
01:17:37.960 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from where they came out,
01:17:41.620 they might have had an opportunity to have returned. They could have went back to it 0.99
01:17:47.000 because they said, well, you know what? I got this religious life now. I got this whole network of
01:17:50.500 Christian people, I could really crush in the money game now. I was doing good before, but then 1.00
01:17:55.240 I got linked up in this church game. And I could kind of go back to that now, man, I really crush
01:18:00.520 in the money world. But now they desire a better country, a better kingdom. That is a heavenly
01:18:05.920 kingdom. Wherefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he hath prepared for them
01:18:10.500 a city, right? So ultimately, that's what we're looking for. We're pilgrims and strangers in the
01:18:16.220 earth. He's building for us an eternal city, an eternal kingdom. He goes to prepare a place for
01:18:21.480 us. We truly are focused on that. It's not just a concept or a theory or like a cute thing to talk
01:18:26.900 about with church people. Like it's the reality and the thrust of our life. So we're going to
01:18:30.820 close with this. We got like two more. We got two more passages. We got Psalms 90 verse 12.
01:18:35.580 This is a big, this is a big verse for me, man. This is like a big one that I'm like, yeah,
01:18:39.940 I need help with this, man. This is, this is a, this is a prayer to God, right? So teach us to
01:18:46.620 number our days that we may apply our hearts into wisdom. Like God, give, give me a concept
01:18:51.920 of how short my days are. We've, we've read it through this whole section that we've done today,
01:18:56.260 right? It's like, my days are just like a shadow. They're just like a vapor. They're just like grass.
01:19:01.240 They're just like a flower. They're very fleeting and temporary. God, please let me live in light
01:19:06.500 of that reality, please let me make the most of even my conversations with my son and my
01:19:11.620 conversations with my daughter, my conversations with my son-in-law, my conversations with my wife,
01:19:16.540 like my conversations in this little sphere that you've put me in, the way I'm dealing with people,
01:19:21.460 the way I'm conducting business. I know I have to have clean hands and a pure heart.
01:19:25.820 God, give me the reality of like how quick this is. Can we pull a verse up again and help me
01:19:32.340 to apply my heart to wisdom. Teach us to number our days. What word, man? God, teach me to number
01:19:40.520 my days, to value my days, to not have days where I'm just like, oh yeah, whatever. It's just another
01:19:45.680 day. No, don't let me do that, God. Let me realize how valuable. If my life's just a vapor,
01:19:51.220 it's just grass, it's just a flower, it's just a shadow, I want to apply my heart unto wisdom
01:19:57.220 in these days. I don't want to take it for granted. I want these days to be valuable to me.
01:20:01.940 I want my time to be valuable.
01:20:03.500 I want it to be spent right.
01:20:04.980 Teach me to apply my heart to wisdom.
01:20:07.260 And I think how I want to wrap this whole thing up is because it keeps coming back in
01:20:11.080 the Corinthian studies that you're going to jump in with me and Raven today.
01:20:14.560 But it's 1 Corinthians 1, 9 and 1 Corinthians 15, 58.
01:20:20.320 You could say that like this is what the Corinthian letter is really about.
01:20:23.960 Everything in between those two passages is almost a parentheses.
01:20:27.660 And this is what I want to spend my time doing.
01:20:29.540 I want to apply my heart into wisdom. I want to, I want God to help me number my days and value my
01:20:35.300 days. And this is what I want to be doing. I want, I want to be looking at it, looking at my life in
01:20:39.420 light of this. God is faithful by whom you were called under the fellowship of his son, Jesus
01:20:44.900 Christ, our Lord. So that's that thing. Again, we're talking about fellowship. We're called into
01:20:48.420 this business relationship. How did you say it earlier that there's a, uh, rot in God that it's
01:20:53.440 right that it's a um it's it's like a duty there's something tied to it it's a job that we're doing
01:20:59.200 together yeah he's he's faithful by whom you were called into the fellowship of his son jesus christ
01:21:04.580 our lord not just hanging out and watching football together but we're called into fellowship
01:21:08.800 in the work that we're doing in the earth for his kingdom
01:21:11.900 therefore my beloved brethren brethren be steadfast unmovable always abounding in the
01:21:20.640 work of the Lord for as much as you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. Amen.
01:21:50.640 Thank you.
