00:00:37.300 I appreciate it. So what is going on with the referendum question? What's going on with the
00:00:45.020 vote? Many people ask. Well, currently what happens is that the Alberta Prosperity Project
00:00:50.740 did deposit the application with Elections Alberta, which is the governmental body that
00:00:56.500 determines what referendum may or may not go forward. Back in the spring, the UCP government,
00:01:04.620 the conservative government led by Danielle Smith, created or passed Bill 54, which is that bill that
00:01:11.840 lowered the number of signatures from an unrealistic amount of signatures that needed to be collected
00:01:18.020 to a more attainable number. On July 4th, United States Independence Day, the Alberta Prosperity Project
00:01:25.780 deposited that question. The Alberta government will formalize rules on Friday that will make it easier
00:01:30.860 to have a referendum on topics like separation. One group plans to apply to Elections Alberta July 4th
00:01:37.260 to start a petition under those new rules. But it turns out that some bureaucrat at Elections Alberta
00:01:45.040 decided to delay and has not put it through the courts to determine whether the question is
00:01:50.800 constitutional, which is basically a delay tactic. They're trying to push it back.
00:01:56.800 The Alberta Prosperity Project will have to wait a little longer before it can start gathering signatures
00:02:02.800 from supporters. A judge has ruled a judicial review of the separatists' referendum question
00:02:09.040 can go ahead. Today, King's Bench Justice Colin Feesby ruled that constitutional review will benefit
00:02:15.680 democracy and must happen first. You know, this whole hearing process seems to be asking the question,
00:02:22.640 you know, you know, is asking a question to amend the constitution in and of itself unconstitutional,
00:02:29.040 which is to me a pretty remarkable position. And so what's happening now is that this question is
00:02:33.840 being held at the courts. Leadership of the Alberta Prosperity Project is not too worried about that
00:02:39.360 because eventually they're going to have to let the question go through because Danielle Smith knows
00:02:45.200 better. She knows that the APP is a very strong political movement here in Alberta. After the UCP,
00:02:53.200 the conservatives, and maybe the leftist NDP, the Alberta Prosperity Project is one of the most,
00:03:01.280 one of the more powerful political movements going on in Alberta. You have hundreds of thousands of people
00:03:07.680 that have signed their intention to sign yes on a future referendum. You have hundreds and hundreds of
00:03:13.920 volunteers and many of these people are going to go to the annual conservative party, Alberta conservative
00:03:19.600 party, AGM, and they're going to put a lot of pressure on the Alberta government to do the right thing
00:03:26.480 and allow the referendum and let Albertans have their voices heard when it comes to independence.
00:03:32.800 Yeah, my name is Brian. And my question is, if all this is legal and the referendum and everything,
00:03:40.000 why are we letting the government take us through the court procedure to decide if we can do this?
00:03:49.440 Well, again, you know, it's just, you know, it's just game playing on the part of the government.
00:03:54.320 I still want to find out who it was that amended the Citizens Initiative Act to put that provision
00:03:59.760 in. Somebody obviously did that to delay. And another provision of the Citizens Initiative Act
00:04:06.080 is that, you know, the Chief Electoral Officer and Elections Alberta are supposed to work with
00:04:11.920 question proponents to help them if there's any concern that the question that they have isn't legal
00:04:17.040 or appropriate. Needless to say, they never reached out to Mitch Sylvester. They never reached out to
00:04:22.080 our office to say, hey, oh, well, you know, we have some concerns about this. Would you like to add the
00:04:26.960 words, you know, consistent with the Constitution of Canada to the end of your referendum question so
00:04:32.240 we don't have any concerns? We would have done it in a heartbeat, right? But of course, this is game
00:04:36.960 playing. They are trying to delay us, right? And this is going to come back, you know, if Danielle doesn't
00:04:42.240 simply adopt our question and put it forward under the Referendum Act, which she can do, she has the
00:04:47.440 ability to completely ignore the court. If she doesn't do that, I think there's going to be hell
00:04:51.200 to pay come the AGM. And that's why I want all of us there. So thank you. Thanks for the question.
00:04:56.880 And here's the thing. All this delay, all this sabotaging tells you one thing, and that is that
00:05:03.840 they're worried. The left doesn't even want us to have a referendum. The NDP using their proxy,
00:05:11.440 the Lukasok guy, or however you pronounce his name, they're basically trying and attempting to
00:05:18.320 circumvent the ability of the people to have a referendum. And why? Because they know,
00:05:25.360 they know that the results are going to be staggering and shocking. It's going to send shock
00:05:31.680 waves through Canada and North America when they find out that possibly 50 and over 50 percent
00:05:38.000 of the population in Alberta want to become independent. The pollster found 65 percent of
00:05:44.640 Canadians don't want Alberta to leave. However, he also found that 58 percent of Albertans think
00:05:51.520 separation is a real possibility. I think it's a good idea. I'm a redneck. So yeah, I think it's a good
00:06:00.720 idea. I think it's economically good. We'll have control of our own pipelines and make our own
00:06:06.800 decisions instead of being puppets to Ottawa. Like most Albertans, I feel like we've just supported
00:06:11.920 the rest of the country long enough. Now it's time to look after ourselves. Patience is running thin.
00:06:17.440 Jason Wilson, a 28-year-old rancher, hears it from all sides. My neighbours are done. They don't think
00:06:24.240 it's worth it. Do you think we will see a referendum on independence in the next 12 to 18 months?
00:06:29.600 I wouldn't be surprised. Wilson's family came here in 1887. He's sixth generation on this land in
00:06:37.600 our east of Calgary, raising cattle and farming. That's why I'm so pro-Alberta and an Albertan first,
00:06:46.000 I would say, is because of the legacy that was passed on to them. Many of you asked me to update on
00:06:53.360 what events may or may not be taking place when it comes to Alberta independence and I oftentimes
