Summary
A new oil pipeline between Alberta and the United States has been in the works for some time, but is it a reality? Former Energy Secretary Dan Bruyette joins me to talk about the possibility of a new pipeline and what it could mean for American energy production and exports.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says a proposal for a new oil pipeline in Canada is
00:00:05.560
highly likely. His words. Well, I wouldn't trust a word coming out of Mark Carney's mouth,
00:00:10.780
but an oil pipeline is definitely in the works and it's likely going to be between Alberta and
00:00:15.380
the United States, possibly Keystone XL, given that Trump indicated his interest in reviving
00:00:21.340
this pipeline, which Biden killed in 2020. Premier Danielle Smith has also hinted multiple times
00:00:28.020
that she's been in consistent talks with members of the cabinet from the Trump administration,
00:00:33.380
particularly Doug Burgum, to advance cross-border oil production, energy security,
00:00:39.480
and the further integration of Alberta energy with the American industry.
00:00:43.580
Former Energy Secretary under Donald Trump, Dan Bruyette, joins me now. So Dan, if it happens,
00:00:49.280
and that's a big if, what does that mean for American energy? Well, it's a really big if,
00:00:54.500
David, thanks for having me this morning. Look, the bottom line is a new east-west coast
00:00:58.580
pipeline in Canada is good for Canadians. It's good for world markets in that we have access to
00:01:02.980
more supply. But I think you have to look at this through a political lens. Canada is in a tough
00:01:08.400
situation. It is very dependent upon U.S. refiners and U.S. refinery markets. So a lot of their oil comes
00:01:15.120
to the U.S. And given the conversations that are occurring today around import duties and tariffs,
00:01:20.080
this could be seen as a hedge against that conversation with the United States. The real
00:01:24.880
bottom line here is that unless a private sector player steps up and helps finance this pipeline,
00:01:30.080
it's going to have the same outcome as perhaps many of its predecessors. It's going to die a slow death.
00:01:40.000
Look, Mark Carney's many things, mostly negative, and I've called him at least 90% of those things on
00:01:45.600
this channel. But one thing he isn't is naive or dumb. Unlike Prime Minister Fancy Sucks Trudeau before
00:01:53.200
him, this guy isn't just a useful idiot who's mostly clueless and just acting as a figurehead for the
00:01:59.280
World Economic Forum and other globalist multinational organizations. You all know the ones.
00:02:06.160
Carney sees the writing on the wall when it comes to Alberta and how if he doesn't let Albertans have at
00:02:11.840
least one concession and the long overdue proverbial win, the desire for separation is only going to
00:02:18.800
continue to increase as the tolerance for the status quo in Alberta is at an all-time low.
00:02:24.400
Danielle Smith, as the politician that she is, is also capitalizing on this. Many people, myself
00:02:30.640
included, believe that she's trying her best to play the middle, not come out and fully support
00:02:35.680
independence from Canada, but taking steps to remind the Feds that the threat of Alberta independence
00:02:41.360
is real and she'll try to extract as many concessions as she can from that, including big energy projects
00:02:48.080
like a west-east pipeline. She's also expressed her intent to have Canada open the constitution to
00:02:55.360
create some reforms that will make things more equal for Alberta. All of this enabled by the independence
00:03:01.760
threat. Do I agree with her methods? Not necessarily. But do I understand them? You bet. It's the old Quebec
00:03:09.760
technique. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, if you will. Except most Albertans who support independence
00:03:16.560
ain't really bluffing. Today marks an important step forward in uniting our country as Alberta joins
00:03:21.440
forces with Ontario to pursue our shared goals of economic growth, opportunity and prosperity.
00:03:27.360
We're signing two memorandums of understanding that will see us advance pipelines and pathways to boost
00:03:32.720
exports of homegrown energy and critical minerals to markets across Canada and across the world.
00:03:38.880
Today's signing marks an historic partnership founded in a mutual ambition to reach the full potential of our
00:03:44.720
provinces, to grow our list of global customers for our energy resources and to achieve long-term prosperity for all Canadians.
00:03:52.080
Friends, this is how we protect Canada. We need to protect together to unlock the country's full potential. We need to build
00:04:01.680
infrastructure that will bind Canada together and support workers in every part of the country. We need to
00:04:08.160
respect and celebrate every province, every territory and do everything in our power to help workers, businesses and
00:04:16.480
communities thrive. I'm honored to do my part to help the amazing people of Alberta. And I thank my friend,
00:04:24.240
Premier Smith, for helping the people of Ontario. We're going to keep working to build Canada. We're going
00:04:30.480
to stand united. We're going to protect the true north, strong and free. Except the true north is not strong and
00:04:39.040
it's the farthest thing from free nowadays. So they sent out fat Dougie Doug Ford as part of the new
00:04:45.920
Canada Alberta outreach program. A diplomatic effort, if you will, to try to appease Albertans and make them feel
00:04:53.680
that they're not alone in this fight and they're being heard. I don't buy it, obviously. Doug Ford couldn't care less
00:05:01.280
about Alberta and that's been proven over the many years he's been in government, having never advocated in favor of our
00:05:08.160
province. Hell, quite the opposite. If anything, he was buddy buddies with Trudeau for political gain and never did
00:05:15.680
anything to help advance the energy industry in Alberta or Saskatchewan. But they expect us to believe
00:05:21.920
that he suddenly had an epiphany and is an ally of Alberta now that the province is moving towards
00:05:27.520
leaving Canada. How convenient. Here's Premier Smith a few weeks back reminding the rest of Canada why at
00:05:34.880
this point pipelines being built is a matter of Alberta staying or leaving Canada.
00:05:40.560
Why tie the issue of getting a commitment for an oil pipeline to a national unity?
00:05:48.800
Well, you have to understand just how damaged Alberta is by the fact that we didn't get pipelines built.
00:05:54.080
If we had built Northern Gateway, if we built Keystone and we built Energy East, we'd have 2.5 million barrels
00:05:59.440
more per day of production which is 55 billion dollars a year worth of GDP value which is worth 17 billion
00:06:06.160
dollars to my government alone and about an equal amount to the federal government. So this is not
00:06:10.880
this is not just an ideological argument. It's not just a minor disagreement. Oil is by far the most
00:06:17.440
valuable export for Canada. Any of the projects that you have that you will see on the ultimate list,
00:06:22.320
I will tell you that a bitumen pipeline will be by far the greatest benefit to all of Canada.
00:06:28.400
That's why we're going to continue to push for it because it's just it's a good project. It's good
00:06:31.760
for our country. There's nine trillion dollars worth of value in discoverable and achievable
00:06:36.960
reserves right now. And so why would you leave that in the ground? No other country in the world would
00:06:40.880
and we shouldn't either. You see, I'm fairly cynical when it comes to politicians. So my view is that
00:06:46.800
they're not choosing to leave it on the ground out of a real concern for the planet more than they have
00:06:52.880
their own agendas in which Alberta being an energy superpower doesn't really benefit their own
00:06:58.240
personal goals. Carney knows that crude oil isn't going anywhere anytime soon. He doesn't really
00:07:04.800
believe in that whole climate emergency fairy tale. If he did, he wouldn't have invested, personally,
00:07:12.640
in multiple pipelines in the United States, Brazil, and other parts of the world. All these people care
00:07:19.200
about is power and money and for you to have less of it so you're easier to control. The whole Doug Ford
00:07:26.320
coming out to Alberta to, quote, show his support for our oil sector is the most ironic thing to watch,
00:07:33.600
considering the fact that a few months back he was telling Alberta to shut off its oil shipments to the
00:07:38.720
United States, which represents the overwhelming majority of Alberta's exports. What do you make
00:07:44.720
of Doug Ford's vow to cut off energy to the US in the wake of the 25% tariff threats?
00:07:49.360
Well, let me be clear from the Alberta perspective. Under no circumstances will Alberta agree
00:07:56.480
to cut off oil and gas exports. We don't support tariffs. I don't support tariffs on Canadian goods,
00:08:02.800
and I don't support tariffs on US goods because all it does is make life more expensive for everyday
00:08:09.680
Canadians and everyday Americans. So instead, we're taking a diplomatic approach and we're meeting with
00:08:14.880
our allies in the US. We're making the case for Alberta oil and gas to be part of the solution
00:08:20.400
to energy affordability, to energy security, and to, generally speaking, North American
00:08:27.120
defense security as well. And of course, we'll work with our counterparts in Montana in a shared
00:08:35.440
border arrangement so that we can improve public safety, crackdown on illegal migrants and illegal drug
00:08:40.400
trafficking. All right. Thanks for watching. Thank you for subscribing. Special thanks to those of
00:08:45.280
you who have donated to this project. It is much appreciated and it helps me continue making videos.
