The government of Alberta is doing the unthinkable against the Liberals' gun grab scheme. The premier of Alberta, Danielle Smith, is pushing back heavily, and her government is throwing down a serious challenge to Ottawa by invoking the sovereignty act. That means Alberta s basically telling the feds, we re not playing along with your plan to treat law-abiding gun owners like criminals. We re not confiscating anybody s guns here. We re standing up for the right of Albertans to keep their legally owned firearms and handle things on their own terms.
00:00:00.000It's a collection J.R. Cox carefully maintains and protects, but keeping these firearms will be illegal soon.
00:00:08.480We will oppose any policy that undermines law-abiding firearm owners and does not combat the criminal use of firearms.
00:00:14.600We will require compliance, so at some point provinces and territories need to come up.
00:00:19.380Setting the stage for another Alberta-Ottawa showdown, with a fight that no promised pipeline can pacify.
00:00:25.700Instruct all provincial entities, including our municipalities and law enforcement agencies, to refuse to enforce or prosecute under the federal gun seizure program.
00:00:38.100The government of Alberta is doing the unthinkable against the Liberals' gun grab scheme.
00:00:45.700The premier of Alberta is pushing back heavily, and her government is throwing down a serious challenge to Ottawa by invoking the Sovereignty Act.
00:01:17.800Same thing for law-abiding gun owners.
00:01:20.040They bought their guns legally in good faith.
00:01:22.480And the last thing we want our policing resources or our Crown prosecutors doing is wasting their time going after law-abiding citizens.
00:01:30.260Let's go after the bad guys there, too.
00:01:31.640We've got plenty of gangs and organized crime and people who are up to no good.
00:01:35.900That's what we're policing and our prosecution priority should be.
00:01:39.340And so we passed a motion in the legislature to affirm that.
00:01:44.220And it is one of the things, one of the powers that we have as a province that, yes, the federal government can put forward criminal code sanctions as part of their constitutional jurisdiction.
00:01:54.540Well, we're responsible for administration of justice and policing.
00:01:57.820And so we can exercise our jurisdiction by declining to make that a priority for policing or prosecution.
00:02:03.700I got a little tip for low-life criminals out there.
00:02:06.780If you don't want to get shot, don't break into someone's house.
00:02:15.160We want our great men and women in law enforcement and our justice system to spend their precious time and effort going after criminals.
00:02:23.200Not farmers, not ranchers or sport shooters, nor Albertans defending their families and their homes.
00:02:29.020Now let's dive into how Premier Danielle Smith is leading this charge.
00:02:33.640She's made it loud and clear that Alberta's not going to let Ottawa's gun grab roll in without a fight.
00:02:39.640In a recent statement, she's basically said, look, our government isn't going to help you disarm our law-abiding citizens.
00:02:46.020She's defending the idea that people in Alberta have a right to protect themselves and their families and that the federal policy is overreaching.
00:02:54.040Her statement against home invaders is the key here.
00:02:56.720If you don't want to get shot, don't break into people's houses.
00:03:00.840It's a real show of defiance in a country where people go to jail for defending themselves and a clear message that Alberta's going to stand its ground.
00:03:09.240I wanted to get your reaction to an incident, I believe, in Lindsay, Ontario, where a man is now facing criminal charges for defending himself from a home intruder.
00:03:21.080What are your thoughts on that situation?
00:03:23.160Well, if you don't want to get shot or beaten up, don't break into people's houses.
00:03:33.620We had a similar incident in Alberta where somebody defended themselves and they determined that there was not a reasonable likelihood of conviction
00:03:42.280because we do expect that people are going to use a reasonable use of force to defend themselves and their families and I support that.
00:03:50.540These are part of the Order and Council ban, ban, ban, ban, ban.
00:03:53.800The federal government granted amnesty to existing owners of the 2,500 types of firearms that were banned in 2020, but that amnesty will be expiring next fall.
00:04:03.880To compensate, Ottawa is offering to buy those guns back before they're ultimately seized.
00:05:26.260They've barely collected any guns because the citizens know better than to surrender their legally obtained property to a tyrannical government.
00:05:35.420The Liberals banned more than 2,000 models of firearms, including handguns and many semi-automatic style weapons, offering to buy them back.
00:05:44.120A lot of young Canadians getting involved in this for various reasons.
00:05:47.740When people start talking about gun owner rights, I get very concerned about the ideological flow of ideas from the U.S.
00:05:59.400We've got our camera set up behind this bulletproof glass.
00:06:01.740Sociologists blame a renewed interest in guns in part on the influence of social media.
00:06:07.300The kind of masculine ideology that is being promoted on the radical right side of the political spectrum.
00:06:12.900It is very much a heroic masculinity, a nostalgic masculinity.
00:06:18.280Well, I guess, God forbid, young men actually embrace their masculinity and learn responsible self-defense.
00:06:25.600Leave it to the woke left to lose their minds over people embracing traditional values.
00:06:31.540The government paid media and anti-gun talking heads are crying foul over Canadians legally owning firearms.
00:06:38.040Just because they're black and they look kind of like each other doesn't make them all bad.
00:06:44.400When the RCMP put out this opinion piece saying that they believe that the R-9 is a prohibited firearm, it has the impact of law.
00:06:55.880Who's going to buy one of my rifles now with this firearms reference table out there that says that the R-9 is a prohibited rifle?
00:07:03.820But there's no way to actually fight the FRT.
