00:00:16.640 joins us live in studio with the latest. Jeremy. So let me start with who benefits from today's

00:00:21.920 ruling. The decision is a win for Albertans who want to stay in Canada. It means the group pushing

00:00:28.160 for separation has to have its referendum question reviewed by a judge before it can start collecting

00:00:33.820 signatures to get it on a ballot. The separatist group Alberta Prosperity Project wants to ask

00:00:39.820 Albertans whether they want to leave Canada and become a sovereign nation. Yesterday a judge ruled

00:00:45.520 a referendum question on Alberta separation must have its constitutionality scrutinized. The ruling

00:00:51.880 means the separatist group Alberta Prosperity Project cannot collect signatures to get its

00:00:56.900 question on a ballot until after the review. In a statement the Confederacy says quote we will

00:01:02.520 continue our unchanging opposition to separatist rhetoric and the idea that Alberta should consider

00:01:08.080 separating from Canada. Adding the push for separation is a direct violation of treaty which

00:01:13.920 are legally binding contracts. Except that the treaties exactly as they exist today are a big part of

00:01:20.860 the problem. One doesn't have to go far to realize that indigenous people in Canada have not been 0.91

00:01:26.880 treated fairly by the federal government and how corruption in the reservations is a major concern

00:01:33.680 especially for those at the bottom. Those at the top who obviously benefit from the current

00:01:39.740 arrangement are the only ones who do not want to see change. So the Canadian courts have decided that

00:01:47.220 it is their job to block the will of the people. The independence referendum is now being delayed by

00:01:53.560 judges and bureaucracy. And the reasons given for the delay leave more questions than answers.

00:02:19.980 And I'll tell you plainly. Alberta staying in confederation is not up to me. And it's not up

00:02:25.380 to the liberal government. It's up to the people of Alberta. And the Albertans know that they have

00:02:29.860 options. You know things are getting real when Alberta independence is being talked about in

00:02:34.640 parliament more than Quebec separatism. And that's saying something. For decades Quebec's been the

00:02:40.640 poster child for separation talk. But now Alberta's taking the spotlight. And the federal politicians?

00:02:47.720 They're panicking. They hope this was just some temporary and fleeting protest. But nope. It's

00:02:54.560 gaining steam. And fast. You've got organized groups and serious people behind it. And support is growing

00:03:01.500 all across Alberta. It's definitely not a fringe idea anymore. Now let's address one of the biggest

00:03:08.140 lies out there. That Ottawa or some special interest group can just veto Alberta's decision if the people

00:03:15.160 vote yes in a referendum. That's not how this works. This isn't a permission slip from Ottawa. We're talking

00:03:23.000 about the will of the people. And if 50% plus one say yes, that's the beginning of the road to

00:03:29.240 independence. After that, Alberta holds all the cards. Stay independent or strike a deal with the

00:03:36.440 United States. Whatever path the people of Alberta choose. But it all starts with breaking away from

00:03:42.520 Canada. First and foremost.

00:03:45.720 I'd like to turn to talk of making Canada an energy superpower. Daniel Smith has said, you know,

00:03:51.880 there could be a referendum next year. And the legislation around that is 170,000 people can

00:03:56.340 put that on the ballot. You know, Brian Mulrooney once perhaps referred to rolling the dice with the

00:04:01.720 future of Canada. Is it appropriate for that few people to put the fate of a G7 nation in the balance?

00:04:08.680 Well, I see what you're trying to do. And look, the province of Alberta, provinces make determinations

00:04:20.520 on the rules governing referenda, voter plebiscites, other factors, and they can make determination of

00:04:27.520 how they come into force. Determinations on broader issues of referenda on a federal level,

00:04:34.040 including supported by Supreme Court decisions, are governed by the Clarity. I will refer to the

00:04:39.080 Clarity Act. But look, what we're interested in, what Canada's new government is interested in,

00:04:45.640 what Parliament, I think most parliamentarians are interested in, is building this country,

00:04:50.360 not breaking it apart. It's working together, working with Indigenous peoples, working with

00:04:54.760 provinces, working with labour, working with business. We have many, you know, we have this

00:05:01.000 threat, this realizing from the US that regardless of what outcome we get, I mean, it matters what

00:05:07.480 agreement we get, but it's changing the world of trade. It is changing the outlook for the global

00:05:12.680 economy in not just immediate, but the medium term. We have to take more responsibility ourselves to move

00:05:18.760 forward, which is what we're doing with the one Canadian Economy Act and what's underneath it,

00:05:24.920 which very much includes, and I'll finish on this, very much includes cooperation with the

00:05:29.960 province of Alberta, the province of Saskatchewan, the province of British Columbia, all the provinces

00:05:33.000 and territories, Indigenous people, for these nation-building projects. And we're having

00:05:38.680 constructive, I would say, very constructive discussions with Premier Smith and stakeholders

00:05:45.560 in Alberta specifically, and we intend to convert those to actual projects, investment, jobs,

00:05:51.960 and a brighter future for the country. Mark Carney's strategy on Alberta independence has been real simple,

00:05:57.880 pretending it doesn't exist. Just ignore it and hope it goes away. But the poor guy can't escape it.

00:06:04.920 Everywhere he goes now, the topic follows him like a shadow. And you can see it. His body language is

00:06:10.920 arrogant and dismissive. But he's really irritated. He's annoyed that the issue won't die. Well, guess
