00:00:00.000 Hey everybody, PJ. Got an update for you guys on Alberta independence. About a month ago,
00:00:10.320 exactly on July 4th, the Alberta Prosperity Project, the organization, not-for-profit
00:00:16.660 organization, spearheading the effort to see Alberta become independent from Canada,
00:00:21.880 deposited the petition with Elections Alberta to have the referendum question approved to begin
00:00:27.740 the official collection of signatures. As you guys know, the law was updated by the Alberta
00:00:35.860 government to go from like 600,000 signatures to 177,000 and the APP waited for the rules to change
00:00:45.700 since they have about already 250,000 people signed up that are willing to sign the petition to see a
00:00:52.760 referendum in Alberta. So you guys can see here, this is a tweet from Jeffrey Rath, one of the
00:00:59.460 leaders of the Alberta Prosperity Project, which was posted exactly on July 4th. And it says here,
00:01:07.780 breaking Edmonton, Alberta, Mitch Sylvester, Dennis Modry, and Jeff Rath just filed the constitutional
00:01:14.060 independence referendum petition question at Elections Alberta. As the Sylvester question is
00:01:20.420 constitutional, absent a perverse ruling by the chief electoral officer, it will supersede
00:01:27.860 Lukasik question brought under the old statute to preserve the status quo. What he's referring to
00:01:34.400 when he mentions this individual here, Lukasik, is the competing referendum question, which basically
00:01:41.520 is looking to maintain the status quo, keep Alberta locked to Canada, no matter the abuse,
00:01:47.860 no matter the amount of unfair treatment, no matter how much Canada continues to disenfranchise
00:01:55.420 Albertans, they want to keep Canada, Alberta forever, forever Canadian is what they call their
00:02:02.380 campaign, no matter the amount of damage that Canada has caused Alberta historically and continues to
00:02:08.620 cost to this day. What he's saying here is that the question posed by the Alberta Prosperity Project
00:02:13.920 is constitutional. The other one is a policy question. Make government policy that Alberta
00:02:20.000 stays within Canada forever, you know, but this one is constitutional. A province separating and forming
00:02:27.100 its own country is a question that is much higher in the totem pole of constitutionality than the other
00:02:32.520 one. It seems that the sabotage and the effort to undermine the Alberta independence movement has
00:02:41.760 already begun at the courts.
00:02:44.700 So as we can read here, Edmonton, a potential referendum question on Alberta separating from Canada has been
00:02:55.400 referred to a judge for confirmation that the question doesn't violate the constitution. The proposed
00:03:01.560 question seeks a yes or no answer to, do you agree that the province of Alberta shall become a sovereign
00:03:07.740 country and cease to be a province in Canada? Alberta's chief electoral officer, Gordon McClure, in a news
00:03:16.520 conference or in a news release Monday said, provincial laws require potential referendum questions to
00:03:22.220 respect more than 30 sections of the constitution, including the charter of rights and freedoms.
00:03:28.060 I'm sure like that document means anything anymore in Canada.
00:03:33.240 McClure's release doesn't say which, if any, specific sections he's unsure about and his office didn't
00:03:39.540 immediately respond to questions asking for details. The potential referendum question was submitted to
00:03:45.180 the electoral officer earlier this month by Mitch Sylvester, an executive with the Alberta Prosperity
00:03:51.560 Project, a not-for-profit group that has been touring the province promoting independence.
00:03:56.020 Sylvester, who didn't immediately respond to an interview request Monday, has said he thinks interest
00:04:04.240 amongst Albertans in holding a separation referendum increases with every speaking event his group
00:04:11.880 organizes. Quote, the more people that hear what the message is, the more people that will be in
00:04:18.940 favor, he said in an interview last month. The Alberta Prosperity Project said on social media that
00:04:25.540 McClure's decision was a delay tactic and that the group would respond in court if need be.
00:04:32.020 Yeah, so the Alberta Prosperity Project, Jeff Rath already tweeted out that they're ready to take this to court if need be.
00:04:39.940 The electoral officer's release says the court of King's Bench will schedule a proceeding
00:04:45.280 for the matter, for the matter, and that Sylvester and the provincial justice minister
00:04:50.440 have been notified of his decision to refer the question to a judge.
00:04:56.360 An spokesperson for elections in Alberta said that once the question is assessed in court,
00:05:01.540 McClure will have 30 days to determine if the proposed question meets other legislative requirements.
00:05:08.060 If his question is approved, Sylvester and the Alberta Prosperity Project would need to collect
00:05:12.700 177,000 signatures in four months to put the question of Alberta separation on a ballot.
00:05:19.220 In June, the chief electoral officer approved a competing question that seeks to have Alberta
00:05:25.140 make an official policy that the province will never separate from Canada. That's the petition that I
00:05:31.820 talked to you guys about, the competing one by a former politician who popped out of nowhere to
00:05:37.320 be. He's suddenly the most patriotic Canadian ever, and he wants to preserve Canada and keep things the
00:05:44.600 way they are, even though Alberta has continued to be treated unfairly by the federal government for
00:05:49.940 decades and decades, and it's only gotten worse over the past 10 years. The machinery of government,
00:05:57.000 you got to remember these people are in power. They control the federal government.
00:06:01.240 They control the media. They control, heck, even sports. Even sports people can't speak against
00:06:08.600 the government in this country. Canada has become very draconian in its approach to dissent to people
00:06:17.620 who have different opinions than the general government narrative. Just look at what they did to
00:06:23.000 the truckers, and that tells you everything about the state of Canada in today's day and age. In other news,
00:06:29.520 you have apparently the premier and the justice minister, I believe his name is Mike Emery,
00:06:37.360 and they came out. I don't know how much of this is theater, because again, you got to remember these
00:06:41.040 people are politicians, and a lot of people are saying, including myself, that Danielle Smith is
00:06:46.640 playing the middle here. She's not straight up coming out and saying, yes, I'm all in for independence.
00:06:53.280 She's trying to say, yeah, I want Alberta within a united Canada, sovereign Alberta within a confederated
00:06:59.920 Canada or whatever it is, but she's also made some moves that have facilitated the move towards
00:07:07.760 independence, including lowering the required amount of signatures in order to trigger that
00:07:13.600 referendum, which was insane before. It was literally an insurmountable amount of signatures that
00:07:20.000 you have to collect within 90 days. This was done by the previous premier, who was a federalist.
00:07:27.760 This headline says from CTV News, Alberta premier and minister called for separation referendum question
00:07:33.680 to be approved. It seems that they came out against the whole delay tactic by the judge and the court
00:07:44.720 to go through some sort of bureaucratic procedure to take longer. They came out against that and they
00:07:53.120 say in declarations that at the end of the day, it's up to the government of Alberta whether the
00:07:58.880 question will be approved and whether it is constitutional or not, that it shouldn't be the courts judging that.
00:08:04.960 I checked a few of the comments here. This guy climate changer says we either go down with the sinking ship
00:08:13.280 with the sinking Canada or get in the Alberta independence life raft, life raft. Think about it.
00:08:21.120 Then we have let the people decide by Calgary guy. Separation is essential to avoid
00:08:27.680 Carnies third world Canada and famine. So this is what we're looking at.
00:08:32.320 This is what's going on in Alberta when it comes to independence.
00:08:36.240 The sabotage continues, the effort to destroy the movement, the effort to undermine it,
00:08:43.680 keep it, you know, not let it get to an actual question. These people do not want it to get to
00:08:50.480 an actual referendum question because they know that once that happens, we are farther than we've
00:08:55.520 ever been before. Because Quebec, they've threatened to separate and they had a couple referendums and
00:09:01.760 one came really close, but a lot of people say that they never meant to leave. With Alberta, they don't
00:09:06.080 want us to have a referendum because they know that Albertans mean to leave. Quebec separating from Canada,
00:09:12.720 it wouldn't do so well because they depend on Canada for all their socialist programs and their
00:09:17.840 finances. They receive to the tune of like $15 billion a year, a big chunk of that coming from
00:09:24.160 Alberta directly. Alberta, on the other hand, is a net contributor to this country. So that's why they
00:09:31.920 take Alberta independence much more seriously than Quebec separatism. Albertans actually, those who
00:09:38.240 believe in independence, actually know that their province would be much better off
00:09:43.200 independent from Canada. Thank you to all of you tuning in. I appreciate it. Please hit the like
00:09:49.680 and subscribe button. Share this video with everyone you know that could use this information and I'll
00:09:55.120 see you in the next one. All right. Thanks for watching. Thank you for subscribing. Special thanks to
00:09:59.680 those of you who have donated to this project. It is much appreciated and it helps me continue making
00:10:04.880 videos. See you on the next one. Peace.
