Summary

The federal government wants to confiscate all of Canada's guns, but Alberta and Saskatchewan are standing firm and defending the rights of citizens to own and use their own guns. They have the highest levels of gun ownership in the whole country, and it's only climbing.

Transcript

00:00:00.000 Alberta's justice minister issued a joint statement with Alberta's public safety minister
00:00:04.200 saying the province will not enforce what it calls a gun grab
00:00:07.280 and that they expect law enforcement to focus on violent criminals, not hunters and sport shooters.
00:00:12.500 Owners of assault-style weapons have one more year to dispose of them.
00:00:17.220 The federal government initially proposed a gun buyback program
00:00:20.800 that would be operated by the private sector.
00:00:24.000 Saskatchewan doesn't want the RCMP participating in any way.
00:00:28.060 These firearms that we're talking about in Saskatchewan belong to legal firearms owners
00:00:35.540 and they're licensed, they're heavily vetted and monitored by the Firearms Office.
00:00:40.520 In short, you'll see that us and Saskatchewan are going to do whatever we can
00:00:44.620 to make sure that we're defending firearms owners' rights
00:00:46.780 and I know we're coming up to a deadline here so just have some patience
00:00:51.360 because we know how important that is.
00:00:52.960 We just have a different approach we want to take in Alberta
00:00:55.100 and I think that that is what the Constitution allows
00:00:57.420 and we'll see what the courts say about it.
00:01:03.160 Alberta and Saskatchewan.
00:01:05.220 The last two provinces in Canada are still showing a little bit of common sense.
00:01:10.140 While Ottawa wants to strip people of their rights,
00:01:13.880 these provinces are standing firm and protecting the ability of citizens
00:01:17.920 to own and use firearms.
00:01:19.940 Alberta and Saskatchewan also happen to have some of the highest levels of gun ownership
00:01:27.320 in the whole country.
00:01:29.320 And guess what?
00:01:30.680 It's only climbing.
00:01:32.440 In fact, in a previous video, we covered how Albertans were buying more firearms than ever before.
00:01:38.780 And Saskatchewan's right there with them.
00:01:40.620 Folks in these provinces are arming up like never before.
00:01:45.080 And the timing?
00:01:46.360 Pretty interesting, considering the growing talk of separating from Canada altogether.
00:01:52.000 Let's get into it.
00:01:53.520 Very quickly though, if you enjoy these videos, please do me a solid and subscribe.
00:01:58.040 It's free and you can always unsubscribe later if you change your mind.
00:02:01.200 Thank you and back to the video.
00:02:03.780 Despite the government calling it voluntary on the tech briefing for journalists,
00:02:08.380 the bureaucrats made it very clear.
00:02:09.860 This is not voluntary.
00:02:11.220 You will either hand over your gun to the government,
00:02:13.880 you will have it destroyed on your own dime,
00:02:16.680 or you will face criminal charges.
00:02:18.700 You will be in violation of the law.
00:02:20.340 There's no voluntary aspect of like,
00:02:23.640 you know, I just don't feel like participating.
00:02:26.480 You have to participate in one of the ways
00:02:28.960 or face up to 10 years in jail.
00:02:31.640 Make no mistake about it.
00:02:33.520 What they want to do is confiscate each and every single firearm
00:02:37.700 from law-abiding citizens.
00:02:39.740 This is exactly what they're doing.
00:02:41.260 And that's why crime is so out of control in Canada today.
00:02:44.340 And Alberta is no exception.
00:02:46.340 And then they say, well, it's voluntary.
00:02:48.980 How can it be voluntary if you made my property that I purchased legally now
00:02:54.480 illegal to possess?
00:02:56.320 How is it voluntary if I am now in possession of illegal property?
00:03:02.620 They're full of it.
00:03:03.400 That's the answer.
00:03:04.500 The liberal government's gun confiscation scheme.
00:03:08.440 A scheme that by its very design only targets law-abiding gun owners.
00:03:13.780 Because I don't have to tell you, Mr. Speaker,
00:03:16.140 the criminals in this country are not the ones that will be lining up
00:03:20.460 to turn over their illegal firearms to the government
00:03:23.580 regardless of whether there is any compensation.
00:03:27.460 So what we have here is something that the government says
00:03:29.640 will cost three-quarters of a billion dollars.
00:03:31.600 Now, by the way, liberal math, I believe you need to triple it
00:03:34.800 and add 50% or something to get somewhere close to the real number.
00:03:38.460 But even if we take it face value that this will cost three-quarters of a billion dollars,
00:03:43.260 that is money that could be going towards beefing up law enforcement.
00:03:46.140 That is money that could be going towards beefing up the border.
00:03:49.720 We had before the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights last week
00:03:52.900 police experts who were very candid as well,
00:03:55.420 as candid as the Minister of Public Safety is
00:03:57.160 when he doesn't know he's being recorded,
00:03:58.980 in saying that there will be zero effect,
00:04:03.040 not minimal, zero effect,
00:04:05.540 on gun crime
00:04:06.640 when this gun confiscation scheme goes forward.
00:04:11.320 As you've seen, we have already taken action in that regard.
00:04:15.080 We told the municipalities,
00:04:16.220 no, you can't have a handgun ban.
00:04:17.940 That is not municipal jurisdiction.
00:04:20.040 We told the RCMP,
00:04:22.000 no, you cannot participate in the confiscation scheme.
00:04:25.100 We've told the sheriffs that.
00:04:26.260 We have told municipal forces.
00:04:27.820 We're working right now
00:04:29.060 on what a legislative framework
00:04:30.900 for an Alberta firearms license would look like.
00:04:33.460 And we're going to fight it out
00:04:34.600 because property and civil rights
00:04:36.780 are our jurisdiction under Section 91 of the Constitution.
00:04:42.060 You know, I keep hearing the Canadian government
00:04:44.120 call this draconian initiative a buyback program,
00:04:47.660 and I got to laugh
00:04:48.520 because how exactly can the government buy back something
00:04:52.220 that it never owned in the first place?
00:04:54.640 That's not a buyback.
00:04:55.960 That's a forced seizure with a gift card attached to it.
00:04:59.740 And they've got the nerve to insist that it is voluntary.
00:05:03.020 Voluntary? Really?
00:05:06.380 Because last time I checked,
00:05:08.040 if you refuse to hand over your legally purchased property,
00:05:11.540 you're suddenly a criminal.
00:05:13.460 And then they say, no, no, it's just about public safety.
00:05:17.000 But let's be real.
00:05:18.420 When you've got the full weight of the federal government
00:05:20.940 threatening to take away your guns,
00:05:23.100 your money, and maybe even your freedom,
00:05:25.720 there's nothing voluntary about that.
00:05:28.480 Call it what it is.
00:05:30.440 Confiscation.
00:05:31.540 Plain and simple.
00:05:32.340 Mr. Speaker,
00:05:34.260 the gun registry,
00:05:36.340 what the government is doing with the gun registry
00:05:38.360 is putting in place a much more efficient way,
00:05:41.540 an efficient way
00:05:44.240 for Canadians to voluntarily return prohibited firearms,
00:05:49.740 voluntarily return prohibited firearms
00:05:52.800 for fair compensation.
00:05:55.520 This government is going to do it right.
00:05:58.520 Here's what drives me crazy.
00:06:00.080 The same government that lets repeat violent offenders
00:06:03.480 out on bail the same day
00:06:05.100 is laser focused on making sure your neighbor down the road
00:06:08.860 can't keep his hunting rifle.
00:06:11.280 They tell us it's about protecting Canadians.
00:06:14.420 But if that was true,
00:06:16.500 why are the people actually causing the violence
00:06:19.120 walking free while law-abiding gun owners
00:06:21.480 get treated like criminals?
00:06:22.700 It's completely backwards.
00:06:25.520 And maybe that's the point.
00:06:27.260 A population that's disarmed isn't safer.
00:06:30.760 It's weaker,
00:06:31.860 more dependent,
00:06:33.000 and way easier to control.
00:06:35.200 They know exactly what they're doing.
00:06:37.900 If you can't protect yourself,
00:06:39.580 if you've got no choice but to rely on Ottawa for safety,
00:06:42.920 well, guess what?
00:06:44.640 You'll obey whatever rules they come up with.
00:06:47.480 That's not about reducing crime.
00:06:49.480 It's about reducing resistance.
00:06:52.880 And that's why they want your guns
00:06:54.100 more than they want to lock up actual criminals.
00:06:57.320 Think about that.
00:06:58.520 With the federal gun buyback program
00:07:00.300 piloting in Nova Scotia,
00:07:02.040 some Alberta gun owners hope
00:07:03.220 it at least leads to clarity
00:07:04.380 on how the program is going to play out.
00:07:06.920 But in the province,
00:07:07.760 it's not a very popular program,
00:07:09.900 even with the Alberta government
00:07:11.160 introducing legislation
00:07:12.500 to try to prevent the federal government
00:07:14.320 from taking restrictive firearms
00:07:16.080 from legal gun owners.
00:07:17.340 Obviously, there's growing pains
00:07:19.220 and they're introducing it
00:07:20.860 as a pilot project in the east.
00:07:23.720 So hopefully, they can resolve those growing pains
00:07:27.760 and we'll see how it progresses.
00:07:30.000 Good morning, P&D.
00:07:31.120 Chris Kaberski owns this central Edmonton gun shop.
00:07:34.060 He estimates sales revenue dropped by 60%
00:07:36.440 since Ottawa introduced the buyback program
00:07:39.100 and banned 1,500 assault-style firearms in 2020.
00:07:43.060 That program will reopen for businesses
00:07:45.200 in a few weeks.
00:07:46.360 We're just in the midst of deciding
00:07:48.600 exactly how we're going to proceed with it,
00:07:50.300 but we are currently sitting on inventory.
00:07:52.520 Some feel the program targets legal gun owners
00:07:54.760 while not having an impact
00:07:56.140 on the illegal gun market.
00:07:57.880 It's irresponsible.
00:07:59.400 It's a waste of time and money.
00:08:01.420 It's to try to control the criminal action
00:08:04.460 on the wrong spot.
00:08:06.360 What you got to do,
00:08:07.040 you got to keep the criminal in jail.
00:08:08.720 The Edmonton Police Service confirms
00:08:10.180 it does not plan to take part in the program
00:08:12.300 based on current staffing and resources.
00:08:14.780 Hey, if you've made it this far,
00:08:17.200 thank you so much for watching.
