00:00:00.000 Out of the sea
00:00:04.000 I have a bone to pick with Hollywood because they have a bone to pick with me 0.99
00:00:07.000 What is up with recasting redhead characters with black actors? 0.97
00:00:11.000 Redheads only make up 1% of the world's population and they keep replacing us in TV shows 1.00
00:00:15.000 Annie, an iconic Ginger
00:00:17.000 They remade it, black 1.00
00:00:19.000 Another iconic Ginger
00:00:21.000 Ariel, being replaced by a black actor
00:00:23.000 Now this one literally makes no scientific sense because Ariel lives in the bottom of the ocean
00:00:27.000 I do see the Disney version which dispenses with the immortal soul
00:00:52.000 As a kind of intermarriage metaphor
00:00:58.000 So you have a very different community that hates the outside world
00:01:04.000 And it's associated with Triton
00:01:07.000 And thus a Greek god 0.92
00:01:11.000 And she is, you know, in a very, you know, again
00:01:17.000 In a very kind of moving way
00:01:19.000 You know, fascinated with the outside world
00:01:21.000 In love with this man
00:01:23.000 Whom she saves
00:01:25.000 And he can recognize her by her voice
00:01:27.000 And then she's lost her voice to lose her tail 1.00
00:01:29.000 All the, you know, it's a well-crafted story in the way that they do it
00:01:35.000 But it is, in this version, unlike Hans-Christians Anderson
00:01:39.000 She does get the man 0.65
00:01:41.000 There is a marriage ceremony at the end
00:01:44.000 And they all live happily ever after
00:01:46.000 And the two races, as it were, are united as one
00:01:52.000 And there's a notable rainbow above it all that Triton calls up
00:02:02.000 Which could possibly evoke Yahweh's rainbow symbolism after the flood
00:02:09.000 Of a reminder to himself never to do this again
00:02:13.000 To destroy the world of men effectively 0.92
00:02:16.000 So I think there's actually a lot there
00:02:20.000 But in my tentative reading of Disney's The Little Mermaid
00:02:26.000 I would say that it's no longer really a Christian story
00:02:30.000 In the sense that the immortal soul is
00:02:33.000 Or a platonic story, I guess you could say
00:02:36.000 You know, the immortal soul is this driving aspect of the plot
00:02:40.000 And it actually is a story about intermarriage
00:02:47.000 And the, I haven't seen the new one yet, of course, no one has
00:02:52.000 But the black Ariel was no doubt a conscious choice 1.00
00:02:58.000 And it was, and there was also no doubt a kind of element of political correctness
00:03:04.000 That went involved with all of this
00:03:07.000 Where some executive signed off on a creative's decision
00:03:12.000 That, okay, Ariel's going to be black 1.00
00:03:14.000 And let's find a black singer to do this 1.00
00:03:16.000 And that was at least, it was consciously done
00:03:20.000 And it was at least partially inspired by political correctness
00:03:25.000 Or representation, et cetera
00:03:26.000 But I think it actually might be more than that
00:03:30.000 In the sense that if the Disney version is ultimately a story of intermixing
00:03:37.000 Then the black Ariel is actually an artistic choice
00:03:43.000 And drives that plot forward, in fact
00:03:47.000 And makes it maybe a little more palpable
00:03:49.000 And so all of these people
00:03:53.000 Like, either the right-wing YouTubers
00:03:56.000 Or I've also seen some like middle-aged white women 1.00
00:04:01.000 Like a TERF, I guess
00:04:04.000 Kind of get in on this
00:04:05.000 Where they're like, that's just not the real Ariel
00:04:08.000 That's not my Ariel or something
00:04:10.000 Donald Trump is my president or something
00:04:13.000 They're kind of missing the point
00:04:17.000 Because the thing that you love
00:04:21.000 And that defined your childhood
00:04:23.000 Actually was already about intermarriage
00:04:26.000 Like that's what the message was
00:04:29.000 And now we're making it a little more visible
00:04:35.000 But that message was always there
00:04:38.000 And more subtle, maybe even more profound
00:04:41.000 In the way that it was subtle
00:04:43.000 But nothing has really changed
00:04:45.000 About what Disney is telling you
00:04:49.000 And that's something that's completely missed
00:04:51.000 By the DR, it seems
00:04:52.000 You're like, okay
00:04:53.000 Well, it's all white people in the cast 0.99
00:04:54.000 It's a gangster movie 0.93
00:04:55.000 Yeah, it's all right
00:04:56.000 That gets the stamp of approval, right?
00:04:58.000 But, you know
00:05:00.000 When you have that sort of insensitive of view
00:05:03.000 Of like art, culture, and religion
00:05:05.000 Then don't be surprised that you end up
00:05:07.000 Where you are now, right?
00:05:09.000 Yeah
00:05:11.000 All the characters that you
00:05:13.000 Were your heroes in youth
00:05:15.000 Often they're appearing in parables
00:05:18.000 That do have a kind of ethnic subtext
00:05:21.000 And subversive messaging
00:05:23.000 But you missed it back then
00:05:24.000 And now, you know
00:05:25.000 Now it's kind of
00:05:26.000 They dominate the culture
00:05:29.000 And they've done it through media
00:05:31.000 Which is a kind of
00:05:33.000 Which is a form of religion, ultimately
00:05:35.000 You know?
00:05:37.000 So, anyways, that's what I
00:05:39.000 So, we have to come up with a more
00:05:41.000 Intelligent response
00:05:43.000 And not just be impotently 1.00
00:05:45.000 Complaining and whining about this shit 1.00
00:05:47.000 It's just 1.00
00:05:48.000 Yeah
00:05:49.000 It is demoralizing, ultimately
00:05:51.000 You know?
00:05:52.000 You know?
00:05:53.000 Yeah
00:05:54.000 The secret masochism
00:05:56.000 That lies behind
00:05:58.000 All of this supposed
00:05:59.000 Pro-white activism 0.88
00:06:01.000 Or kind of
00:06:02.000 Southern strategy activism
00:06:04.000 On behalf of these alt-white figures 0.94
00:06:06.000 Who, you know
00:06:09.000 Spend their days endlessly
00:06:11.000 Complaining about Marvel movies 0.97
00:06:13.000 titties 0.87
00:06:14.000 Who, you know 0.86
00:06:15.000 Six years later
00:06:16.000 Yellow movie
00:06:17.000 She was thinking
00:06:18.000 Something that was
00:06:19.000 Talking about
00:06:20.000 Drill
00:06:23.920 Who, named
00:06:25.000 Who, named
00:06:27.060 Some guys
00:06:28.120 Which basically
00:06:31.180 And
00:06:32.040 to
00:06:33.020 You know
00:06:34.220 We
00:06:35.220 Was
00:06:35.400 To
00:06:36.680 To
00:06:37.500 Gotcha
00:06:37.700 You
00:06:38.180 I
00:06:39.060 To
00:06:39.860 Then
00:06:39.960 you
00:06:40.920 I
00:06:41.900 So
