00:02:31.720 time i heard about it was back in probably september and i heard about it on social media and i saw it
00:02:36.880 and i said that's crazy yeah i'm never going to do that yeah um and then i came across it again in
00:02:41.500 december and i said okay it's looking a little more intriguing and by that point i had um applied
00:02:50.180 to pt schools and i actually had already gotten into a couple schools at that point and my stepdad
00:02:56.600 actually talked to me and he said there's one thing i need you to do before you go to pt school
00:03:01.420 and he said i need you to get mentally tougher and i said that's not a coincidence that's like a sign
00:03:07.360 this is a sign and so i said all right i'm doing it i think i looked up your podcast listened to

00:03:38.680 gotten pretty out of shape thanks to covet yeah man a lot of people did yeah um but i grew up fairly
00:03:44.160 active um i played actually a year of college basketball my freshman year and after that i um
00:03:51.620 transferred schools and then i just got into a rut where i was working out sometimes and then not
00:03:56.400 working out but it just got to where i was at my heaviest and was not doing hardly anything

00:05:28.560 so i was home a lot for bridal showers and whatnot and there was when i was home and i was waking up at
00:05:33.660 6 a.m to get my first workout in they were just kind of like what what is she doing yeah i was like
00:05:39.660 i'm i'm just doing i'm doing this right now and then we got to talking about it and i told them
00:05:45.000 and they were like you've been doing that for 35 days and i said yeah i have but yeah at first i
00:05:51.280 didn't really tell anybody but then a few of my friends i remember driving to my second workout at
00:05:56.520 11 o'clock at night and my friend was like i can't believe you're going to work out right now and i was
00:05:59.820 like i have to get it done like yeah what are you talking about so um i didn't get a whole lot of
00:06:05.740 pushback from it really because i just didn't really tell anybody yeah and then by the end of
00:06:11.420 it everyone was just kind of like that's crazy yeah i was like i don't care what you say it's
00:06:16.640 getting done yeah so yeah and dude that's a that's a necessity of the program you know the people

00:07:37.660 to live with that like internal shame of knowing that you're weak you know and that's something that
00:07:44.940 you know i see a lot of people criticize the program they look at it from the outside they
00:07:50.260 haven't done any research into it they think it's an actual program that tells you how to eat and how to
00:07:55.580 work out which it doesn't um and so you know they they throw rocks at it but they don't understand
00:08:02.560 what's actually happening what's actually happening is is we're training out of you um your ability to
00:08:08.280 compromise situations that shouldn't be you know so we're the first couple weeks i know the first
00:08:14.420 time i did it dude i was sore yeah how was that um it was good i i like i said i played college
00:08:22.520 athletics and so i had done the two workouts a day and sometimes three and was used to that but
00:08:28.460 not every single day yeah yeah we may have had two or three workouts a day but we at least had one day
00:08:33.860 off yeah and so to do that every single day yeah i was sore and then i think a weekend i had gotten
00:08:39.780 about seven blisters on my feet yeah um and i was like what have i gotten myself into it's at that
00:08:47.820 point it was it's interesting i read your book um and the how you have the days marked out as
00:08:54.700 did you find that pretty accurate yes yeah there was i mean a few things here and there that were
00:08:59.180 different it's a little different on an individual basis but i mean i i'm always curious to find people
00:09:04.300 who i know actually did the program if they found that in line yes that's basically how it was for me i
00:09:10.080 took very detailed notes the first time through and that's how we came up with those brackets of time
00:09:15.580 yeah so yeah so that first week um because i was used to college athletics i was like okay i'm sore
00:09:24.040 i'm gonna be sore and was used to that but then yeah just doing it every single day and having to
00:09:30.000 keep going because a lot of days i'd be like well for for example the blisters normally i would have
00:09:35.460 been like okay just one workout we're just gonna do upper body keep impact but nope i taped them up
00:09:41.560 i went on my outdoor workout got my walk-in and what happened to blisters they went away that's
00:09:46.560 right yep just like it's um accredited to you i found i found out about uh iron cowboy james lawrence
00:09:54.420 and that man yeah is incredible he sure is um it's just like what he says you just make that decision
00:10:01.960 to take one step and one step will turn into two and two will eventually turn into 26.2 miles yeah
00:10:08.160 and another thing i took from him when i got those seven blisters i said you know what the man
00:10:13.140 lost feeling in his fingers and his toes but knew that his body would adapt yeah so i said okay i have
00:10:20.400 seven blisters now yeah they're gonna go away eventually yeah right now i just gotta deal with
00:10:24.100 it but um yeah that first week was excitement but yeah by the end of it you're like oh god yeah a lot
00:10:32.160 more to go but yeah yeah but you just uh the biggest thing for me was focusing on just today
00:10:38.040 yeah i could not think about tomorrow even yeah or the next workout yeah you just have to think about
00:10:44.540 what's in front of you and so that was hard at times i mean like getting halfway through you're kind
00:10:49.900 of like i'm halfway done i still have halfway to go but i was like you can't do it so let's talk about

00:11:05.760 know if you're if you're 400 or 500 pounds there's things that you can do to work this

00:11:26.140 develop your grit help sharpen your mental toughness uh your fortitude your self-control
00:11:32.120 your self-esteem your self-worth uh your confidence let's talk about that for a minute you know what
00:11:38.580 did you notice mentally going through the program um because like at first you said like dude we're
00:11:45.960 all excited right the first week and we get through that for i think for a lot of people you know we've
00:11:50.880 had hundreds of thousands of people go through the program now a lot of people will say that first
00:11:55.860 week that on day seven or eight where they've gone a whole week with because that's a big day for them
00:12:01.440 and i get that because i had i don't think i've i had gone a full week without cheating on my diet
00:12:06.260 before this program so it was a huge deal for me to get to that day seven or eight i remember that
00:12:13.140 very clearly where i was like fuck dude this is a huge milestone for me yeah but then after that yeah it
00:12:18.920 was like what you said where i'm like holy shit like i barely started yeah so let's talk about that
00:12:25.540 i mean what what were some of the changes that you noticed you know in your confidence as you
00:12:32.100 progress through the program well to start um i have to bring in all the physical aspects of it for
00:12:39.560 sure because um it's a huge part but for me at first workout specifically it was like okay this is
00:12:47.400 what i think i'm gonna do and maybe i can do it maybe i'm not we'll just try and get it done
00:12:53.700 um but then as it progressed it was like all right i this was my previous mile time all right we're
00:12:59.480 beating it today yeah or um we did i did a circuit this fast i want to do it faster yeah you're
00:13:06.980 training with a tent now yeah oh yeah at first it was just get it done it was it was get it done with
00:13:12.760 but still with intention but then it turned into a competition and really like wanting to see
00:13:20.580 improvements yeah um but then yeah mentally for sure i actually um did the david goggins 4x4x48
00:13:28.380 around day 50 yeah and so you threw that right in the middle yep yeah that's cool it was it was
00:13:34.340 awesome a lot of people have done that that was really cool it was yeah horrible yeah um it's funny
00:13:39.720 though because the that those 48 hours really mimic the program itself yeah like you start i
00:13:45.100 remember when i was going to run those first four miles i was pumped i was like let's do this
00:13:49.300 and then after that first four i was like what have i done which they weren't even that bad but just
00:13:54.520 i think i had to do it that much more and then yeah you get through it and that was that's a whole
00:14:00.940 other story but um but i remember doing it and i was like yeah i'm gonna get it done i don't care if
00:14:06.420 i'm crawling those four miles yeah and a friend of mine was like i'm not gonna lie i didn't think
00:14:10.400 you were gonna make it and i was like what are you talking about yeah and that's something i noticed
00:14:16.040 was the and it just the program proves that the only person you can count on is yourself and anything
00:14:22.040 you do yeah and so mentally at that point that for me when my friend told me that i was like okay
00:14:27.520 i've seen a shift now where i was said i was going to do something yeah and you're not questioning it
00:14:33.040 right i was like i don't it didn't matter how i felt right um i had like a knee injury at the time
00:14:38.900 um and then that just lack of sleep and all of that just played in but yeah it was it was gonna get
00:14:45.940 done that's pretty cool dude because that's like your your friend sort of making an assumption based
00:14:51.740 off who you were previously to that point and that much difference had happened in that short a time

00:15:02.400 people about this program and you know this because i know you've actually done it you know
00:15:06.640 there's people that coast through that don't really you could just tell that they didn't fucking do it
00:15:11.240 um but one of the things i always hear is people are super surprised at how fast they make the switch
00:15:19.380 from not being able to control literally anything including a beer or a cheap food or french fries or
00:15:27.240 anything to that having zero impact on whether or not it affects them right and and dude when you
00:15:34.980 think about that and you think about all the decisions that we as humans um make in in in times
00:15:44.980 of like weakness right for the instant gratification and we think about all these decisions that we we
00:15:50.880 make and how it negatively affects the big picture of our life to have the control that someone has in
00:15:59.460 just 50 days or 75 days to be able to look at a plate of food and say no i'm not doing that it's not
00:16:06.780 for me or to have be faced with an 11 p.m workout and say dude it's getting done yeah like that's an
00:16:13.020 extremely massive amount of progress to be made in a very short time especially when you think about
00:16:21.540 what it's going to be like after the program that now you know that you're in control of that there's
00:16:28.620 no more of the lexi who was um you know unsure that she was going to be able to finish something
00:16:36.520 you know for me i know that's been the biggest takeaway of living this lifestyle for me is knowing
00:16:43.560 like there is no like my confidence at this point in time it's it's immune from outside influences
00:16:53.980 you know what i mean like you can't fucking dent it and i don't care who you are you know what i mean
00:16:58.800 and how did you like how has it been since you finished the program so i so i have decided to go
00:17:08.180 on and do live hard yeah and i finished phase one and i can now start phase two but i think i'm gonna
00:17:12.980 wait until i move yeah anyway um i wasn't sure if i was going to do it yeah until day 76 um i felt i
00:17:23.000 obviously felt great from date from 75 hard and had seen all these benefits but then it wasn't
00:17:28.680 until the next day when i let like i mean i let myself have a cheat meal that day i didn't do
00:17:33.940 there's nothing wrong with that right yeah and so i did that and i just remember thinking
00:17:37.540 why yeah you and it right then and there i said i'm doing live hard it's getting done let me ask
00:17:45.960 you a question did it scare you a little bit a little bit yeah me too because i had gotten
00:17:52.140 not to make excuses but i had gotten sick and was dealing with a knee injury so i said i'm gonna give
00:17:58.320 myself a couple days if i'm feeling better i'll continue resting if not forget it yeah why why
00:18:04.980 waste my time but those next couple days i just remember thinking this is what i've let myself do
00:18:12.460 yeah and you get a real big slap in the face of reality you're like holy shit i used to live like
00:18:19.520 this every day you know it was yeah it was scary yeah it was and that scared me to the point where
00:18:27.280 like because the first time i did it i did have a day between my phase one and it was the same reason
00:18:32.100 that you did i was i was fucking my feet were fucked yeah like i couldn't do anything with them but that
00:18:38.420 next day i ate a meal and i remember thinking like dude it would be this quick for me to go back
00:18:45.460 exactly and i'm not fucking going back and that decision that was made on day 76 for me
00:18:51.240 was that i'm never ever ever fucking going back yeah ever i'm never going back to that life and uh
00:18:57.520 i think that meal that you know that one day off that i hear that a lot like a lot of people will
00:19:02.620 take one day and they're like oh fuck that i'm getting right back in yeah i i ended up taking about
00:19:07.000 a week yeah but that just that week too um yeah i was just laying around honestly a lot just trying to
00:19:14.540 feel better but at the same time i was like i feel awful at the same time and it was exactly
00:19:21.580 what you're saying it was i mean it was a it was a couple days and i was like i feel like i had
00:19:26.340 lost a month's worth of progress in those two days yeah because you're addicted to the progress now
00:19:33.340 yeah and so i was like yeah forget it because i remember the the cold shower for me was what i was
00:19:38.700 like do i want to do phase one yeah but then i said forget it it's yeah and it's um it's like
00:19:43.120 what you've said in the book too you feel the best about yourself when you've done hard things
00:19:47.180 and i said i felt great doing so just and i hadn't like physically changed i hadn't put on the 30
00:19:55.300 pounds that i lost in those two days yeah at the same time i felt like mentally like i had yeah and
00:20:01.840 i felt honestly embarrassed yeah you went right back to that same person that was on day one and
00:20:07.200 you're like fuck this i don't like this yeah i was i didn't want to walk out of my house i didn't
00:20:11.320 want to and i was like even though you look no different right like that's crazy yeah it shows
00:20:16.340 it's a big huge wake-up call for sure and so i said i'd rather feel physically in pain from soreness
00:20:24.400 and be proud of myself every day then maybe not be feel sore but like it's going to take a toll on
00:20:31.920 like my organs and whatnot and i said i'd i'll take the soreness in that pain over the mental pain
00:20:39.780 of not having my life together yeah essentially and so yeah day 76 i said yep i'm doing i'm
00:20:47.160 starting phase one that's awesome and we're getting it done dude i totally relate to that
00:20:50.940 that's exactly how it went for me too i went i remember i stopped my feet were i'm like i'm
00:20:56.480 taking at least a day to let my feet rest and i'll eat and i think i had like i think i had like
00:21:02.860 sushi and some french fries or something which really wasn't that bad considering like how i used
00:21:07.300 to eat before and i was like no i'm going right back in like i'm not risking going back to being
00:21:13.340 that it's almost like how um you know that the alcoholics anonymous like like where people quit
00:21:22.800 drinking forever that's almost how i feel like i'm just like dude i'm not fucking doing it yeah you
00:21:27.760 know i'm not going back like it's total abstinence for me now when it comes to like laziness you know
00:21:33.360 i can't fucking do it and i get a lot of people that reach out now and they're like you know dude
00:21:38.400 you could get better results if you just rested every yeah that might be true i might look a little
00:21:42.900 better but you don't see what's going on the inside you don't see how i feel mentally you don't see how

00:21:53.600 look like you know so um what books did you read let's see i started with james lawrence
00:22:01.940 his book um then i read david goggins can't hurt me um i read your book 75 hard i read gosh i have a
00:22:12.480 stack of them you think i'd remember well those are some good ones well those are four winners to read
00:22:17.780 during that program yeah yeah they were i mean all phenomenal and i hated reading growing up it was
00:22:24.460 um we had to for school and all that kind of stuff hated it but that was something that i really enjoyed
00:22:31.280 about this program because i was reading books that were helping me and i learned so much um reading those
00:22:39.300 books and that's something regardless of if i'm in a phase or if i'm not that's something i'll continue
00:22:44.580 for sure um but and it and it shows you along with the whole program like i'm i've learned so much
00:22:52.980 since that first day yeah but i also know now that there's so much more for me to learn yeah and i think
00:22:59.880 that's something that mentally i saw throughout the program and that's something that i would catch
00:23:06.580 myself doing beforehand i kind of would put on a front like i knew this i knew that or you don't want to
00:23:11.480 you don't want to seem weak and that you don't know things but now i know that it's right of me
00:23:19.200 to like want to learn and to like express that i need to learn these things and the books were
00:23:23.200 phenomenal dude that's such a huge thing to learn especially at your age like most people don't learn
00:23:29.960 that that ability to humble them i didn't learn that ability to humble myself until i was probably in
00:23:35.340 in my mid 30s where i i did the same thing where i thought i knew a lot more shit than i did
00:23:40.820 and i was afraid to show that there was stuff that i didn't know because i was looked at as like
00:23:45.740 the ceo still then you know what i'm saying like i have to know all the shit but the truth is is fuck
00:23:50.940 nobody knows all the shit and um you know i i think that's a that's an awesome thing to hear you say
00:23:56.940 especially for where you are in life that a lot of times i get you know interviewed on podcasts or
00:24:01.920 whatever i get q a and they're asking you know what what do i regret i think that's my one of
00:24:07.200 my only regrets is not learning how to learn earlier you know what i mean and the book thing

00:24:35.940 question um i i think the biggest thing is just it goes back with just taking one step at a time

00:24:52.020 day right it's it's you have to win the day that's right all you have to do that's right and i think
00:24:57.720 just then having the confidence to take the first step in whatever it is you need to do like there's
00:25:04.080 going to be so like do do hard things do scary things i think and there's a lot of times in my
00:25:09.480 life where i had backed off from things like that and didn't want to do it but now just with the
00:25:15.480 confidence and the fortitude that i have just to be willing to take that first step and whatever it
00:25:22.360 may be yeah that's probably my biggest takeaway is i'm willing to do so much more now that's huge
00:25:28.140 because it's like your life you know i'm saying like so many people don't do things because they're
00:25:34.920 afraid they're going to look stupid or they're afraid they're not going to be any good or people
00:25:38.940 are going to laugh at them and once you start to have that confidence that you've built which you
00:25:43.840 have built um that stuff starts to not matter and you start to live in a more free way exactly you
00:25:51.420 know that's a that's a really cool takeaway what would you say to people who say it's too extreme
00:25:57.380 or it's too hard on one hand i'd want to just turn away and say you don't yeah you don't get it

00:26:09.660 like and that's something i've noticed too is i can't deal with a lot of stuff now yeah excuses

00:26:58.580 he have certain workouts you're supposed to do does he sell a diet i said no it's a free program
00:27:04.560 and all you have to do is make up your mind to do it yeah and if all you can do is march your legs
00:27:10.880 in place for 45 minutes and do that that's it you got to start somewhere man exactly i mean i started
00:27:15.880 and all of my outdoor workouts were walking and then um i'd incorporate some running when i was
00:27:22.240 actually in the gym but i couldn't run for more than three or four minutes at a time and then by the
00:27:26.820 end of it i was running five six miles that's awesome and so i mean i didn't it's i didn't start
