Real Coffee with Scott Adams - Episode 1426 Scott Adams： Freedom and Coffee. Mmm-mm

00:00:00.000 and it's the best time of the day coming to you live from YouTube and from

00:00:06.840 locals I'm gonna be taking some questions a little bit later because

00:00:10.680 it's a slow news day and I'll be taking questions from the locals people give

00:00:16.520 them a little advantage for being on the subscription platform I opened it up

00:00:21.400 today so if you're if you wanted to check it out you would not be behind the

00:00:25.320 paywall just for today testing the live-streaming hey would you like to

00:00:31.200 enjoy the 4th of July more than you've ever enjoyed it before all it would

00:00:37.200 require is the simultaneous sip and all you need is a cup or mug or a glass of

00:00:40.720 tank or chalice style the canteen jar a flask a vessel of any kind fill with your

00:00:45.900 favorite liquid I like coffee and join me now for the unparalleled pleasure the

00:00:53.240 dopamine here today the thing that makes the 4th of July extra extra special

00:00:59.280 yeah it's called the simultaneous sip but it's gonna happen now all around the

00:01:03.200 world go now if you were thinking to yourself I'd like to take a nine-mile run

00:01:14.360 but I can't do it until the simultaneous sip well time to start running because you

00:01:21.660 just had the simultaneous sip I got a suggestion from a user I thought it was

00:01:28.100 quite good because I'm wearing two lapel mics I was doing one of the other but I

00:01:34.040 I think I like the nipple look so on my left nipple we have the locals listeners on my

00:01:41.080 right nipple YouTube that's called fair so before I take questions from the locals

00:01:50.960 people and maybe some from the YouTube crowd as well how does it feel how does it

00:01:59.660 feel now I'm talking mostly to Americans when I ask that question but the rest of

00:02:05.980 you feel free to join in as you know today is one of our sacred American holidays

00:02:12.920 freedom day independence day and I've been saying for quite many months that for me July 4th would be

00:02:23.660 my personal independence day our mics in you said the volume is low on YouTube well that is not the case the volume is perfect on YouTube just check it make sure I'm actually plugged in before I say that yes I'm plugged in and so the volume is low

00:02:30.660 some say the sound is fine okay so it's just the trolls apparently that's a normal troll thing to come in and say the volume is low

00:02:37.660 I'm actually plugged in and so the volume is low and some say the sound is fine okay so it's just the trolls

00:02:49.660 So the volume is low. Some say the sound is fine. Okay, so it's just the trolls. Apparently

00:02:57.440 that's a normal troll thing to come in and say the volume is low, just to ruin the livecast.

00:03:03.420 But sometimes it actually is. So it's a really good troll. But I'm going to ignore all the 0.82

00:03:08.000 rest of the volume stuff, okay? So everybody who's saying stuff on volume, don't bother.

00:03:14.080 I'm not going to look at it from now on. I really am going to just turn this off if you

00:03:23.360 don't stop. All right. I feel better than I have felt in a long time. Because I do think

00:03:33.360 at least in the United States we got through this pandemic. And it was, I don't know about

00:03:40.600 the rest of you, but by far the worst year I've had in decades. Maybe my 20s weren't

00:03:46.320 so hot. But I think I might turn off the comments. Is there a way to turn off the comments? Let's

00:03:54.020 see. All right. I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not. So I may have turned off

00:04:07.780 the comments on YouTube because that didn't work. Screw it. Well, anyway, it's Independence Day and

00:04:17.160 we're feeling really good here in the United States. I hope you are, those of you who are here,

00:04:22.380 because we did something quite remarkable, this whole vaccination thing. I know you're not all fans

00:04:28.960 of it, but there's no doubt that it made a difference at this point. And I was trying to

00:04:35.840 hide the comments. I don't see the way to do that. Hide all chat messages. There we go. Oh,

00:04:42.960 there we go. So if you want to, if you want to chat, go over to locals, locals, scottadams.locals.com.

00:04:52.100 You should find it. All right. So 67% of Americans got at least one dose. CNN is reporting that as

00:05:03.560 Biden falling short of his target of 70%. Does that seem fair to you? Does it seem fair to you that

00:05:12.060 Biden had this target of 70% of Americans getting at least one dose by the holiday, but he only got

00:05:20.040 67%. Does it feel to you like you should report that as a failure? You know, I'm not the one who's

00:05:30.460 Mr. Pro-Biden. But let's see. I have a little problem with this interface too. Well, at the same

00:05:44.980 time, I had the messages for YouTube. The messages on locals stopped working. All right. So I got a bug

00:05:53.580 there where the jump to recent messages is not working. Wow. Almost everything's not working

00:06:01.400 today. Do you ever have one of those days when literally nothing works? Apparently, I'm waking

00:06:07.960 up to that this morning. So 67% seems pretty good to me. If I were CNN, who is supportive of Biden in

00:06:17.500 general, I would report this as success. If Trump had said he would get 70% of people vaccinated

00:06:25.320 by today, and he had 67%, I wouldn't call that falling short. Not really. I mean, that's pretty

00:06:34.740 darn good. And one of the things that people forget is that these goals are almost always random.

00:06:40.380 Right? When Biden said 70%, what was that based on? It wasn't based on anything. So my guess is that

00:06:50.360 a lot of people did great work and got it to 67%. And that's pretty darn good. So I would call it a

00:06:57.300 success for Biden. I'm sure Trump would have succeeded as well. So it's not like the biggest success, but

00:07:03.180 it's a success. We should be happy about it. Here's a big development that's just kind of weird.

00:07:11.560 So Christopher Ruffo, who some of you know, has been taking a prominent role in railing against

00:07:19.060 schools teaching critical race theory. The idea being that the teaching itself is just a different

00:07:26.040 form of racism. Nothing against the idea of informing students about our history. No problem with telling

00:07:33.940 people the honest history. It's just the way that it's taught seems to be just another kind of racism and

00:07:39.980 not making things better. So the criticism is that. And one of the biggest pushbacks had been that, you know

00:07:51.140 what, I'm going to have to fix this technical problem, because when I can't see comments, it is just no fun at all.

00:07:58.580 Oh, there we go. All right. That was a user error. So there's nothing wrong with the locals platform. Boom.

00:08:06.180 All right. I guess I was frozen, but now I'm back. Good. Okay. So one of the big pushbacks was that critical race

00:08:16.540 theory was, in fact, not being taught in schools. So we had all these people saying, hey, why are you

00:08:22.600 teaching critical race theory in schools? And the biggest pushback was, that's not happening.

00:08:29.480 Nobody's doing that. Why are you complaining about something you're just imagining? There's no critical

00:08:34.360 race theory being taught in schools. Well, the biggest teachers union, the NEA, represents 3 million public

00:08:43.100 school employees in all 50 states. They have a 350 million dollar annual budget, an army of operatives.

00:08:51.260 I'm just reading from Christopher Ruffo's tweet. And 14 operatives in 14,000 local communities.

00:09:00.140 And they've just declared war on parents, according to Christopher, who oppose critical race theory.

00:09:07.180 So they've made it, apparently their number one objective is to teach critical race theory and also

00:09:15.340 to push back against parents who are opposed to it. So that's your teachers union. Now, here's what's

00:09:23.340 ironic about this. What's ironic is that the teachers unions are the biggest source of systemic racism.

00:09:32.380 So their entire number one priority is to shift blame from themselves as unambiguously the biggest

00:09:45.100 source of ongoing systemic racism. Because if you were to fix the schools such that anybody could get

00:09:53.100 a good education, let's say you had school choice and then competition would improve things like it

00:09:58.460 always does. If you didn't have these teachers unions blocking school choice, which is what they do, 0.67

00:10:05.820 it's one of their biggest effects. If they didn't block school choice, we would already have

00:10:11.420 the ability to improve and, you know, the market forces would allow people to take their funding with

00:10:17.740 them to whatever school they wanted instead of funding the school without the kid. And by now,

00:10:23.500 everybody who was born in a bad situation would at least have a good base education or at least the

00:10:31.580 opportunity for one. And if everybody got a good base education, what would happen to systemic racism

00:10:39.260 would still be here in every bit as much as before. If the only thing you did was change the schools,

00:10:45.740 just the schools would be better. But that's most of the problem. If everybody got a good education,

00:10:54.460 all of the other systemic racism would end up being almost trivial. Well, you know, a great annoyance

00:11:01.420 in life, let's say. But it wouldn't stop you from succeeding. If you're a black American with a good

00:11:06.860 education, you're fine. Just like everybody else in America, if you got a good education in something

00:11:14.220 useful, some kind of useful thing, doesn't have to be college, could be a trade. But if you've got

00:11:20.300 some useful skill, you're fine in America. So that would be the single biggest thing that anybody could

00:11:26.700 do to fix systemic racism is to fix education. And the number one biggest problem, the teachers' unions,

00:11:36.620 is now fighting parents who want to stop this, stop critical race theory. And they've become the

00:11:43.420 biggest example of their own problem. It's just weird. They are the problem, and they're presenting

00:11:53.100 themselves as the solution to it, while being obviously the problem. Weirder still, I was reading

00:12:02.140 the Daily Mail, a British publication. And they often cover American news, almost like it's local.

00:12:09.980 So if you don't read the Daily Mail, it's very Americanized, but it's a British publication.

00:12:16.460 And they have a story about a major teachers' union wanting to teach critical race theory. And I

00:12:25.180 thought it was this story. But I think an identical thing is happening at the same time in Great Britain,

00:12:31.260 where the teachers' union wants to teach more about colonization and colonialism and

00:12:39.100 and the bad history of racism in Great Britain. So it's happening everywhere. And anybody who thought

00:12:45.500 that critical race theory was not really being taught in schools, well, joke's on you, because it is.

00:12:52.940 All right. I've got the comments off on YouTube, because you could only complain about the volume over

00:13:00.460 there. So I'm going to take some questions on the Locals platform. And, oh, Australia too. Somebody's

00:13:11.900 saying that Australia is having the same situation with critical race theory. And it's really,

00:13:19.260 it's tough to push back about it on it, because you'll just be accused of being a racist.

00:13:23.340 So there's all, there's sort of no way to win on this, is there?

00:13:29.260 How many of you had any kind of, any kind of plans today? So we've got a little bit of plans,

00:13:39.820 some people coming over. And we're all vaccinated, so we're all safe.

00:13:44.140 Is a call-in function for Locals getting worked on? Well, you know, I, the way to do that is to put

00:13:53.500 it through a mixing board and just take the calls from a separate phone. So I could do that with the

00:13:59.420 right equipment, but I haven't figured out how yet. All right. Yeah, well, we do know that pausing

00:14:09.180 the live stream on Locals would be a big thing. All right. Those of you on YouTube, I, I've hidden

00:14:16.060 the chat, so I can't see your comments just for today. Fireworks sales banned in Oregon. So you're

00:14:25.100 going to the rodeo. Okay. Well, I don't see many questions today. Everybody seems to be in a festive mood.

00:14:30.300 Heading to Cape Cod. Great. Which, which cartoonist did you admire growing up? Well, I tried to model

00:14:43.740 my life after Charles Schultz. I remember when I was probably six years old, I saw an article,

00:14:49.500 I think it was in Life Magazine or Time or something. And it was sort of a story about this

00:14:54.540 famous cartoonist called Charles Schultz. And interestingly, being that he was an old white 0.60

00:15:01.420 guy and I was a young white guy, I said to myself, that looks like me when I'm older.

00:15:07.820 It actually looked like my future. And I set my sights on being a famous cartoonist.

00:15:14.780 When I was about 11 years old, I gave up on it because I realized at about that time there was

00:15:20.780 only one Charles Schultz and there were billions of people in the world. And I thought, well, what

00:15:26.140 are my odds? So for a while I thought I would play the odds and become a lawyer or businessman or

00:15:32.220 something like that. But eventually when that stuff didn't work out, did I watch the Trump rally

00:15:40.940 yesterday? I did not. Where, where are they even being broadcast? So I don't think they broadcast them

00:15:48.380 on Fox anymore, do they? Or do they? Oh, just on Rumble. Okay.

00:15:55.100 Wow, a lot of comments coming through. So anybody on, if you want to see the comments,

00:16:00.620 they're at scottadams.locals.com. So I've opened up the subscription service just for this.

00:16:09.420 All right. Will Jeff Zucker be held accountable? For what? I doubt it.

00:16:13.820 Am I related to John Adams, the president? Not descended from, but I've chased my family tree

00:16:25.500 back to Great Britain, surprise, with the last name of Adams. So we might, we might have been related

00:16:31.340 at some point. All right. Might have been a cousin or something.

00:16:41.340 Any future interviews? Well, I took a break from doing interviews, so I'm not sure how long that will

00:16:47.660 last. I felt that I was doing lots and lots of interviews and wasn't getting my own work done.

00:16:54.060 So I took a little pause from there. How can you keep up the news without polluting your mind?

00:17:02.060 Well, watching this, this live stream is part of it. Because, you know, you can take a lot of

00:17:08.060 different approaches to the news. You can take a pessimist or an optimist view. I try to take more of an

00:17:13.980 optimist view. So far, the optimist view has worked out. I'm still pumping at the gym. I did rejoin my gym.

00:17:24.060 So let me give you a little update on my gym. I won't always say the name of it because I don't

00:17:31.020 want to get them in trouble. But they have very strict rules about wiping down your equipment after

00:17:37.260 you're done. Now, do you know how many pieces of equipment I touch during a single workout in the

00:17:43.020 gym? All I do is go from one machine to another machine. I go to the free weights, and I'll do this

00:17:49.420 weight for a while, and then I'll do another exercise with another weight. So I'm just

00:17:53.980 touching stuff the whole time. And the rule is that you've got to wipe it all down.

00:17:59.340 So you have to walk over to a separate table, get your materials and your rags and stuff,

00:18:03.900 and come back and wipe it down, and then take it back to the table, and then go to your next thing.

00:18:10.220 How do you think that's going?

00:18:11.340 Have I ever told you that if you're going to design a system for human beings, you better account for

00:18:20.460 human motivation. You better account for how people act. I would say that 10% of the

00:18:30.380 clients are doing anything close to wiping down the equipment. Because it took me exactly one

00:18:38.300 visit to the gym where I tried to do that for a while. Because I'm pretty much a rule follower.

00:18:44.220 My general approach is, hey, if some, especially a private company, if I willingly join a private

00:18:50.380 company, or I want to do business with them, and they have a set of rules, I'm always going to follow

00:18:56.220 those rules. Because I'm voluntarily, you know, joining into this process. But these are crazy

00:19:03.820 rules. They don't, they don't fit science. I'm vaccinated. You know, we know the virus barely ever

00:19:10.620 travels on the surface. And, you know, I usually am wearing lifting gloves anyway, for whatever

00:19:16.540 difference that makes. So, and I'm, and I'm surrounded by people, right? There are people in the gym,

00:19:22.060 and we know it comes through the air. And I don't have to wear a mask. So what's up with that?

00:19:28.540 All right. So what happened, as you might imagine, is that most of the people who go to the gym just

00:19:35.500 said, you know, I think I would rather be kicked out of the gym than to have to do all this nonsense

00:19:40.860 that doesn't make any sense. So people just stopped doing it. And so far, the gym is being enlightened

00:19:47.820 and letting people just be people. So, all right. All right, I've got to go figure something out

00:19:58.140 here. And so I'm going to cut this short. But have a great 4th of July, if you're American. And if you're

00:20:04.620 not, well, you can have a great, you can have a great 4th of July, too. And I'll talk to you tomorrow.

00:20:09.340 And I'll talk to you tomorrow.
