00:01:14.380 Welcome to Rebel Roundup, ladies and gentlemen, and the rest of you,

00:01:32.580 in which we look back at some of the very best commentaries of the week by your favourite rebels.

00:01:37.380 I'm your host, David Menzies.

00:01:39.280 Well, our Quebec-based reporter, Alexa Lavoie, was harassed by security guards for shockers

00:01:46.640 filming on the grounds of the National Assembly in Quebec City,

00:01:51.140 all of which further strengthens Alexa's thesis 0.99

00:01:54.620 that current Quebec Premier, François Legault,

00:01:58.480 really does resemble former Quebec Premier Maurice Duplassé

00:02:03.460 when it comes to the bully boy factor.

00:02:06.820 Alexis will join me to try and make sense of it all.

00:02:10.820 And we have notched yet another success on the Fight the Fines front.

00:02:15.480 This time, our legal team saved Brian Landrieu of Stellarton, Nova Scotia

00:02:21.200 from having to pay a $1,000 ticket that he received

00:02:25.560 simply for doing some grocery shopping at the local Sobeys.

00:02:30.400 Sheila Gunn-Reed has all the details.

00:02:32.700 And letters, we get your letters, we get them every minute of every day.

00:02:36.700 And you had plenty to say about Ontario MPP Rick Nichols,

00:02:40.960 who was first kicked out of caucus for not getting vaxxed

00:02:44.200 and then coerced into giving up his deputy speaker gig at Queen's Park

00:02:49.480 because his unvaxxed status was offensive to the NDP.

00:02:55.260 And, oh, Mr. Nichols has some very interesting things to say indeed

00:02:59.420 about Corey Tanik of Rubicon Strategy Inc.,

00:03:02.940 a man who A, allegedly represents big pharma clients such as Pfizer and AstraZeneca

00:03:09.480 and B, has the ear of Premier Doug Ford.

00:03:14.220 How does that saying go again?

00:03:15.820 Oh yeah, follow the money.

00:03:17.920 Those are your Rebels, now let's round them up.

00:03:25.760 Maurice Duplessis is a Canadian lawyer and politician

00:03:29.380 who served as the 16th Premier of Quebec.

00:03:33.720 The period during his Premiership is known as the Great Darkness.

00:03:39.360 Towards the end of 1944, Jehovah Witnesses embarked on a massive door-to-door operation 0.96

00:03:49.960 to distribute their newspaper, the Watchtower.

00:03:55.100 The clergy, supported by the Unionist government of Maurice Duplessis,

00:04:01.580 denounced this campaign and encouraged the arrest of church members,

00:04:06.960 which was carried out between 1944 and 1946.

00:04:13.120 More than 400 Jehovah Witnesses were accused of sedition

00:04:18.560 and concerted revolt against the established authority.

00:04:24.240 So in 1944, 41 Jehovah Witnesses were arrested in Montreal,

00:04:29.440 105 in 1945 and 241 in 1946.

00:04:34.080 This form of repression garnered attention and publicity.

00:04:40.740 It was then that restaurateur Frank Roncarelli intervened

00:04:45.920 by paying the bond for the detained Jehovah Witnesses.

00:04:50.740 Autranged by the attitude of Roncarelli,

00:04:55.900 then Premier Duplessis redrew his liquor license,

00:05:00.040 a wind of protests arose across Canada over this arbitrary measure.

00:05:06.300 Doesn't that sound awfully similar to what is currently happening here in Canada?

00:05:11.520 trying to be heard before a judge?

00:05:15.900 Roncarelli, Lodge, complaint against...

00:06:31.800 J'aurais fait ma vidéo, ça aurait été « that's it », là.

00:06:57.660 It's completely crazy.

00:06:58.620 Did you see like that?

00:07:00.220 They authorise any other media,

00:07:02.420 but Rebel Media is not allowed here,

00:07:05.640 in this place.

00:07:06.700 C'est ça.

00:07:07.500 No, I'm reporting what is going on here.

00:07:10.800 You enforce this...

00:07:12.000 Je suis juste en tête de vous...

00:07:12.920 No, you are enforcing this kind of thing.

00:07:15.680 I'm not doing anything wrong.

00:07:17.360 I'm just filming,

00:07:18.300 and you come to me, two officers,

00:07:20.240 to tell me that I'm not allowed to film for...

00:07:22.740 not even 10 minutes.

00:07:24.000 I find that horribly,

00:07:25.720 completely outrageous.

00:07:27.540 And if you don't understand English,

00:07:29.640 it's not my problem.

00:07:30.440 Have you seen that?

00:07:33.200 What did you just do?

00:07:34.560 They came to me,

00:07:35.560 I was just recording one video,

00:07:38.120 and they came to say that I'm not allowed to film here,

00:07:40.940 when all the tourists who come to the Parliament of Quebec

00:07:43.860 are allowed to shoot their video.

00:07:47.420 Can you believe that?

00:07:48.560 In which kind of Canada we are,

00:07:50.220 which kind of democracy we have,

00:07:52.300 I'm not allowed to record anywhere.

00:07:54.980 That's not supposed to be.

00:07:56.220 So folks,

00:07:56.980 how does that saying go again?

00:07:58.420 The more things change,

00:07:59.680 the more they remain the same.

00:08:01.300 Case in point,

00:08:02.180 going back to 1944,

00:08:03.860 Quebec Premier Maurice Duplassé

00:08:06.060 resented the Jehovah's Witnesses,

00:08:09.240 likely because the witnesses back then

00:08:11.240 embarked on a massive door-to-door operation

00:08:14.040 to distribute their newspaper.

00:08:16.940 The church was supported

00:08:18.360 by the Unionist government of Duplassé,

00:08:20.660 and incredibly,

00:08:22.360 the arrests of more than 400 witnesses

00:08:24.820 were carried out between 1944 and 1946.

00:08:28.820 But the inconvenient truth was

00:08:31.080 that the witnesses weren't actually breaking any laws.

00:08:35.940 And then Duplassé goes after the man

00:08:38.200 who helped them seek justice,

00:08:39.840 Ron Corelli,

00:08:40.560 by getting his liquor license revoked.

00:08:43.600 It was equal parts outrageous and scandalous.

00:08:47.440 Well, we fast forward to the tape to 2021

00:08:50.480 and just look how Quebec's current premier,

00:08:53.620 Francois Legault,

00:08:54.580 is behaving.

00:08:55.760 But this time,

00:08:56.920 it is the unvaccinated citizens 0.98

00:08:58.680 who are playing the role of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

00:09:01.820 And as you just saw,

00:09:03.780 Legault's goon squad

00:09:05.180 doesn't like any negative media coverage

00:09:08.280 taking place on the grounds of the National Assembly.

00:09:11.220 So they shut it down.

00:09:13.800 Unbelievable.

00:09:14.440 And joining me now with more on this story

00:09:17.160 is our Quebec-based reporter,

00:09:19.080 Alexa Lavoie.

00:09:20.280 Bonjour, Alexa.

00:09:21.960 Bonjour.

00:09:23.180 So, Alexa, lots to unpack here.

00:09:26.140 Let's begin with your treatment

00:09:27.860 by those security guards.

00:09:30.080 Now, I could tell you were absolutely furious

00:09:33.380 with those guards following you around,

00:09:35.940 and your fury was indeed justified.

00:09:38.460 But what's the problem

00:09:41.080 with anyone filming

00:09:42.840 outside the National Assembly

00:09:44.620 in the first place?

00:09:46.420 But I think it's mostly because

00:09:48.660 it was the same day

00:09:50.060 that I bring the petition

00:09:51.100 at the parliament

00:09:52.780 where six officers and police

00:09:56.460 came towards me,

00:09:58.640 and they were keeping following me everywhere.

00:10:00.940 And I think they just saw me

00:10:04.360 on the parliament.

00:10:06.220 And I don't know if you know,

00:10:07.760 but during this day,

00:10:09.660 they actually panicked

00:10:11.120 if they saw anybody

00:10:12.700 filming or taking pictures

00:10:15.440 around the parliament.

00:10:17.140 So it's why, like,

00:10:18.940 they keep following me.

00:10:21.260 But I was like,

00:10:22.820 not again.

00:10:23.760 So I get really mad

00:10:25.240 because I was like,

00:10:26.540 I'm just trying to do my job,

00:10:28.940 and you try to interrupt me

00:10:30.900 every time that I'm doing my job.

00:10:34.080 And I was like,

00:10:35.200 you know, tourists come,

00:10:36.680 they take movies,

00:10:39.780 they take pictures,

00:10:41.080 and you don't stop them.

00:10:42.560 But you will come and stop me

00:10:44.340 because you consider Rebel News

00:10:46.980 as a not accredited media,

00:10:49.960 and I should not be around.

00:10:52.760 So we are kind of dangerous media.

00:10:55.240 So it's amazing then.

00:10:57.480 Tourists, you can come

00:10:58.580 and film the statue,

00:10:59.780 no problem.

00:11:00.680 Accredited media

00:11:01.620 to the National Assembly,

00:11:03.220 they can film the statue,

00:11:05.060 no problem.

00:11:06.200 Rebel News,

00:11:07.080 as a member of the independent press,

00:11:09.640 that's a problem.

00:11:10.800 Unbelievable.

00:11:11.640 But you know what?

00:11:12.660 That's a bizarre sidebar

00:11:14.560 to the main point of your story.

00:11:16.740 And I thought you made

00:11:17.600 an excellent point, Alexa.

00:11:19.740 Going back to the 1940s,

00:11:21.520 this jihad by Duplassé

00:11:23.880 against the Jehovah Witnesses, 0.53

00:11:26.440 it was incredible.

00:11:28.180 It was an incredible

00:11:29.660 overreach of power,

00:11:31.280 an abuse of authority,

00:11:32.900 you name it,

00:11:33.660 and the courts eventually

00:11:34.800 shut him down.

00:11:35.960 But like you mentioned,

00:11:38.320 we're seeing a repeat

00:11:40.120 of history, aren't we,

00:11:41.320 with Legault.

00:11:42.120 It's not a religious group

00:11:44.740 that he's concerned with.

00:11:46.000 He's going after

00:11:47.300 the unvaccinated.

00:11:49.680 What do you make of this?

00:11:51.760 It's actually,

00:11:52.940 okay, he's going against

00:11:55.160 the non-vaccinated people,

00:11:57.680 but the people

00:11:58.920 who try to help them,

00:12:00.700 as restaurants who say,

00:12:02.340 I will not ask

00:12:03.400 for your medical record,

00:12:06.280 it's already, okay,

00:12:08.360 we licensee,

00:12:09.780 your liquor license.

00:12:10.720 And it's always

00:12:13.320 the first thing

00:12:14.860 that they will do

00:12:15.560 to restaurants.

00:12:16.840 Your liquor license,

00:12:18.040 it's out.

00:12:18.980 And we will give you

00:12:20.140 a fine as well.

00:12:21.840 But it's actually

00:12:23.880 the same process

00:12:25.120 that what Duplassé

00:12:26.440 did before.

00:12:28.160 So,

00:12:28.700 and now,

00:12:29.660 they actually

00:12:30.360 infringe,

00:12:31.600 like,

00:12:31.880 the right of

00:12:32.640 all unvaccinated people.

00:12:35.140 And because they probably

00:12:36.560 think that

00:12:37.680 more we put

00:12:39.100 some restriction,

00:12:40.840 more they would decide

00:12:41.780 to get the vaccine.

00:12:43.280 But,

00:12:44.040 I don't think

00:12:46.180 it's working.

00:12:47.140 You know,

00:12:47.680 and I think

00:12:49.060 if this comes

00:12:50.220 to a court of law,

00:12:51.000 because Duplassé

00:12:51.860 lost,

00:12:52.420 and he lost badly.

00:12:53.740 He went after

00:12:54.600 Ron Corelli's restaurant,

00:12:56.380 his livelihood,

00:12:57.120 by having the authorities

00:12:58.940 yank his liquor license.

00:13:00.360 And you're absolutely right.

00:13:01.480 There are Quebec eateries

00:13:02.740 having their licenses

00:13:04.280 revoked,

00:13:05.180 their liquor licenses,

00:13:05.960 that is.

00:13:06.460 In Winnipeg,

00:13:07.820 Monstrosity Burger,

00:13:09.200 same deal.

00:13:10.160 The province pulled

00:13:11.080 their liquor license.

00:13:12.420 In Calgary,

00:13:13.600 same deal with

00:13:14.480 Without Papers Pizza,

00:13:16.020 their liquor license

00:13:17.040 being yanked.

00:13:18.380 I have a hunch,

00:13:20.480 Alexa,

00:13:20.900 that whenever this

00:13:21.880 gets to court,

00:13:23.440 if it gets to court,

00:13:24.540 that is too,

00:13:25.680 I think

00:13:26.540 this is going

00:13:27.520 to be recognized

00:13:28.160 as an abuse

00:13:30.100 of regulatory authority,

00:13:31.880 that the government

00:13:33.260 doesn't have the right

00:13:34.840 to yank a liquor license

00:13:36.800 based on this.

00:13:38.600 Maybe if you were

00:13:39.400 serving minors liquor,

00:13:40.980 that's another thing.

00:13:41.920 But this is all about

00:13:43.940 a vindictive way

00:13:45.320 to put somebody

00:13:46.820 out of business,

00:13:47.840 and I think that's wrong.

00:13:49.380 It's just because

00:13:51.160 they consider

00:13:51.720 the liquor license

00:13:52.840 as a privilege

00:13:53.960 for a restaurant.

00:13:56.200 So we give you

00:13:56.980 the privilege

00:13:57.580 to have a liquor license.

00:13:58.900 So because you don't

00:14:00.600 go on what

00:14:02.340 the government

00:14:02.840 say,

00:14:03.980 so we'll just

00:14:04.700 remove your privilege.

00:14:06.620 It's up to you.

00:14:08.560 It's why

00:14:09.440 I think

00:14:10.500 they should

00:14:12.080 bring back

00:14:13.100 the court case

00:14:15.640 about Maurice Duplessis

00:14:17.200 and say,

00:14:18.320 you see,

00:14:19.280 it was an

00:14:20.000 over-abused

00:14:21.020 power

00:14:21.760 in the past time.

00:14:23.520 Why now,

00:14:24.340 today,

00:14:25.520 that should be

00:14:26.660 okay?

00:14:27.040 Yeah,

00:14:28.740 no,

00:14:28.960 100%.

00:14:29.720 And thankfully,

00:14:31.980 Alexa,

00:14:32.280 you have brought

00:14:33.320 this back

00:14:33.920 as a talking point.

00:14:35.160 I'm not sure

00:14:35.920 how known

00:14:36.940 this scandal is

00:14:38.220 outside of Quebec,

00:14:39.520 but certainly

00:14:40.340 we're rehashing it

00:14:41.780 right now

00:14:42.300 and with good reason.

00:14:43.960 And again,

00:14:44.900 you know,

00:14:45.360 if we go back

00:14:46.200 to the 1940s,

00:14:47.600 what I'm trying

00:14:48.220 to figure out here,

00:14:49.440 Alexa,

00:14:50.320 there's such a small

00:14:52.020 number of Jehovah

00:14:52.940 Witnesses

00:14:53.620 in the first place.

00:14:55.000 Whether you love them

00:14:56.300 or loathe them,

00:14:57.860 who cares?

00:14:58.840 They have the right

00:14:59.940 to distribute

00:15:00.920 their literature.

00:15:02.080 What was Maurice Duplessis

00:15:03.700 thinking in the first place?

00:15:06.320 But I think

00:15:07.280 it's just because

00:15:08.120 they were going

00:15:09.060 against the clergy.

00:15:10.920 That was a big deal

00:15:12.320 at that time

00:15:13.200 because

00:15:13.760 Christianism

00:15:15.200 was the main

00:15:16.340 religion

00:15:18.220 who were following

00:15:19.360 as well

00:15:19.820 the government rule.

00:15:20.980 and now

00:15:22.220 we are in

00:15:22.960 a society

00:15:24.380 with a lot

00:15:25.260 of different

00:15:25.980 religions.

00:15:27.260 So what's the point?

00:15:28.920 Like,

00:15:29.280 it's just because

00:15:30.080 you don't follow

00:15:31.260 what the government

00:15:32.060 say.

00:15:33.020 It's the only point.

00:15:35.400 You were able

00:15:37.200 to be like

00:15:37.960 a motorbike person,

00:15:40.000 like a gang.

00:15:41.320 It would be the same.

00:15:42.720 Yeah.

00:15:43.460 But, you know,

00:15:44.160 I would argue,

00:15:45.240 Alexa,

00:15:45.920 that if we go,

00:15:47.280 if we look at Quebec,

00:15:48.240 you know,

00:15:48.480 certainly the Catholic Church

00:15:49.760 has been very prominent

00:15:50.900 in Quebec

00:15:51.420 over the decades.

00:15:53.040 And yet,

00:15:53.520 I would say that

00:15:54.580 if you can't handle

00:15:56.300 some criticism

00:15:57.300 from a very small

00:15:59.140 group of people,

00:16:01.080 well,

00:16:01.640 how strong

00:16:02.620 is your faith?

00:16:03.480 I mean,

00:16:03.720 you should be able

00:16:04.360 to shrug that off

00:16:05.280 like it's nothing.

00:16:06.140 But instead,

00:16:07.380 they jailed people.

00:16:08.620 They went after

00:16:09.280 a restaurateur

00:16:09.960 paying their legal fees.

00:16:11.900 Like I said,

00:16:12.840 the abuse

00:16:13.660 was so over the top

00:16:15.380 for such a

00:16:16.520 teeny tiny target.

00:16:19.140 Buddy,

00:16:19.660 it was a tyranny fear.

00:16:21.200 Like I will show

00:16:22.320 what I'm doing

00:16:23.080 with these people

00:16:24.200 who don't follow

00:16:25.180 my rule.

00:16:25.980 So you will see

00:16:27.060 what will happen

00:16:27.980 if you do it.

00:16:29.380 So they instill

00:16:30.340 like a fear

00:16:31.660 like environment.

00:16:33.540 So every people

00:16:34.560 will do like,

00:16:35.400 oh no,

00:16:35.940 okay,

00:16:36.300 I'm keeping like

00:16:38.140 following the rule.

00:16:40.480 No,

00:16:40.940 you're right.

00:16:41.440 Maybe it was all

00:16:42.220 about making an example

00:16:43.600 out of the Jehovah Witnesses 1.00

00:16:45.300 and telling everybody

00:16:46.080 else in the province,

00:16:47.060 you dare do

00:16:47.700 what they're doing

00:16:48.440 and we're coming

00:16:49.300 after you.

00:16:49.800 One last question,

00:16:51.080 Alexa,

00:16:51.840 when you were last here

00:16:52.820 in our head office

00:16:54.640 in Toronto,

00:16:55.740 you were talking

00:16:56.840 about some potential

00:16:58.160 legislation

00:16:59.040 that might be going

00:17:00.580 through in Quebec

00:17:01.940 and one was,

00:17:02.980 and I still can't

00:17:03.860 believe it,

00:17:04.800 it was Legault

00:17:06.480 trying to have

00:17:07.880 legislation

00:17:08.720 preventing people

00:17:10.100 from calling him

00:17:11.780 a dictator.

00:17:13.160 I can't get this

00:17:16.360 out without laughing,

00:17:17.380 it's so surreal.

00:17:19.040 What happened?

00:17:20.000 Did that get struck

00:17:20.920 from the legislation

00:17:21.900 or is he still

00:17:23.100 thinking about

00:17:23.920 doing something

00:17:24.580 like that?

00:17:25.900 So it was

00:17:26.860 during the project

00:17:28.640 of Law 105.

00:17:31.540 Actually,

00:17:32.360 he wanted

00:17:32.740 to remove

00:17:35.220 the right

00:17:35.760 to call him

00:17:36.580 a dictator

00:17:37.140 or talking

00:17:38.060 bad against him.

00:17:39.440 so Mr. D'Am

00:17:43.300 said,

00:17:43.820 okay,

00:17:44.360 so I can have

00:17:45.160 a board

00:17:45.720 writing,

00:17:46.500 I love Legault,

00:17:47.380 I want Legault,

00:17:48.520 but I cannot

00:17:49.220 have a board,

00:17:50.460 I want Legault out.

00:17:52.300 So he said

00:17:53.420 that actually

00:17:54.520 is stopping

00:17:56.120 free speech,

00:17:58.220 freedom of speech

00:17:59.000 and so it was

00:18:01.440 removed because

00:18:02.180 yeah,

00:18:02.660 it's the freedom

00:18:03.960 of speech.

00:18:04.560 You can say

00:18:05.100 whatever you want

00:18:06.040 because it's

00:18:07.300 what you actually

00:18:08.320 think,

00:18:09.440 so same

00:18:11.040 today,

00:18:11.600 if you have

00:18:12.140 just a board

00:18:12.880 writing like

00:18:14.800 something bad,

00:18:16.960 like if Legault

00:18:17.800 is a dictator

00:18:18.460 and you are

00:18:19.140 less than

00:18:20.240 50 meters

00:18:21.500 from a school

00:18:22.740 or like

00:18:24.060 a hospital,

00:18:28.080 you cannot

00:18:28.460 have a fine.

00:18:30.220 Just having

00:18:31.220 a board.

00:18:32.440 It's amazing,

00:18:33.620 you know,

00:18:33.960 it seems that

00:18:34.880 only Mr. Legault

00:18:36.480 is blind

00:18:37.180 to the irony

00:18:38.040 that the only

00:18:39.260 person that

00:18:40.580 would implement

00:18:41.380 a law saying

00:18:42.620 you're not

00:18:43.000 allowed to

00:18:43.700 call me a

00:18:44.260 dictator is

00:18:45.240 a dictator

00:18:46.360 in a dictatorship.

00:18:48.480 But,

00:18:48.840 oh my goodness,

00:18:49.840 well,

00:18:50.280 you know,

00:18:50.680 Alexa,

00:18:51.380 I love Quebec,

00:18:53.160 I love the people

00:18:53.820 of Quebec,

00:18:54.720 the people in

00:18:55.420 government,

00:18:56.240 many of the

00:18:56.700 law enforcement

00:18:57.340 personnel,

00:18:58.120 that's another

00:18:58.600 story,

00:18:59.460 but that was

00:19:00.060 an excellent

00:19:00.620 report of the

00:19:01.980 similarities of

00:19:03.440 today versus

00:19:04.260 the mid-1940s

00:19:05.960 and look forward

00:19:07.560 to your next

00:19:08.340 reports in the

00:19:09.280 days ahead.

00:19:10.620 Thank you very

00:19:11.220 much,

00:19:11.880 have a great

00:19:12.520 day.

00:19:13.220 You too,

00:19:13.740 Alexa,

00:19:14.060 and have a

00:19:14.460 great Thanksgiving.

00:19:17.020 And that was

00:19:17.880 Alexa Lavoie in

00:19:19.440 Quebec City.

00:19:20.320 Keep it here,

00:19:20.820 folks,

00:19:21.160 more of Rebel

00:19:21.740 Roundup to come

00:19:22.380 right after this.

00:19:28.940 Brian,

00:19:29.480 why don't you

00:19:29.880 tell us what

00:19:30.260 you were doing

00:19:30.820 when you got

00:19:31.220 your lockdown

00:19:31.680 ticket?

00:19:33.780 Okay,

00:19:34.220 long story short

00:19:35.100 was I was at

00:19:36.140 my Sobeys closest

00:19:38.200 to me,

00:19:38.800 which is in

00:19:39.260 Stellart in

00:19:39.680 Nova Scotia,

00:19:40.540 and it just

00:19:42.320 happened to be

00:19:42.880 the day,

00:19:43.580 it was April

00:19:44.780 30th,

00:19:45.460 and that was

00:19:46.020 when our,

00:19:47.980 the Nova Scotia

00:19:49.200 doctor,

00:19:50.160 Dr. Strang,

00:19:51.060 had issued

00:19:51.960 another lock,

00:19:53.120 a week of

00:19:53.560 lockdowns,

00:19:54.440 and that day

00:19:55.260 it had started.

00:19:56.880 So,

00:19:57.060 but I was in

00:19:57.520 shopping like

00:19:58.080 every other day

00:19:58.720 like I normally

00:19:59.300 do.

00:20:00.120 Mind you,

00:20:00.400 I have a mask

00:20:00.780 exemption,

00:20:01.300 so I was in

00:20:01.820 there without

00:20:02.100 a mask,

00:20:03.280 but,

00:20:03.640 you know,

00:20:03.760 I practiced

00:20:04.200 every other

00:20:04.780 rule,

00:20:05.180 you know,

00:20:05.440 keeping my

00:20:05.960 hands clean,

00:20:07.060 following the

00:20:07.540 arrows on the

00:20:08.100 line,

00:20:08.720 trying to keep,

00:20:09.280 you know,

00:20:09.440 six feet apart

00:20:10.100 from everybody

00:20:10.680 in the store,

00:20:11.420 which was quite

00:20:12.540 as hard that

00:20:12.980 day because it

00:20:13.560 was actually

00:20:13.940 quite busy

00:20:14.600 because I

00:20:15.100 believe a lot

00:20:15.620 of people

00:20:15.960 were there

00:20:16.340 doing panic

00:20:17.960 buying,

00:20:18.440 if you'd call

00:20:18.840 it,

00:20:19.020 because,

00:20:19.760 again,

00:20:20.080 it was just

00:20:20.540 issued that

00:20:21.020 that was the

00:20:21.360 first day of

00:20:21.920 another week

00:20:22.560 of lockdowns

00:20:23.400 issued by

00:20:24.140 Dr. Strang.

00:20:25.540 And as I

00:20:26.300 was going to

00:20:26.720 the grocery

00:20:27.060 store,

00:20:27.420 everything seemed

00:20:27.820 fine.

00:20:28.180 I went up

00:20:28.880 to the

00:20:29.120 checkout and

00:20:30.300 as I was

00:20:30.740 finishing paying

00:20:32.300 for my

00:20:32.680 groceries,

00:20:33.740 a Stullerton

00:20:34.180 police officer

00:20:34.860 approached me

00:20:35.680 and asked

00:20:38.200 to speak with

00:20:38.740 me.

00:20:39.120 So she

00:20:40.160 made it very

00:20:40.560 clear that I

00:20:41.080 was in the

00:20:41.380 store without

00:20:41.680 a mask and

00:20:42.300 that was one

00:20:42.660 of the

00:20:42.840 mandates.

00:20:43.600 She let me

00:20:44.080 finish paying

00:20:44.780 for my

00:20:45.240 groceries and

00:20:47.260 the conversation

00:20:48.140 carried on

00:20:48.760 outside,

00:20:49.760 at which time

00:20:50.780 I informed

00:20:51.440 her that I

00:20:52.140 had a medical

00:20:53.000 exemption and

00:20:54.120 that I didn't

00:20:54.540 have to wear

00:20:54.960 a mask.

00:20:56.100 And she

00:20:56.380 had asked

00:20:56.820 me what

00:20:57.460 was my

00:20:58.180 medical

00:20:58.720 exemption

00:20:59.340 for.

00:21:00.280 And I

00:21:01.500 just explained

00:21:02.120 to her that

00:21:02.440 I felt it

00:21:03.740 was my

00:21:04.080 privacy and

00:21:04.960 not actually

00:21:05.440 the law that

00:21:06.080 I reveal

00:21:06.640 sensitive medical

00:21:07.560 information.

00:21:08.900 And then she

00:21:09.380 asked me to

00:21:09.800 wait in my

00:21:10.120 car because she 0.98

00:21:10.600 wanted to

00:21:10.920 speak to

00:21:11.480 somebody in

00:21:12.260 the store.

00:21:12.700 I guess it

00:21:12.960 was a staff

00:21:13.480 member, the

00:21:14.480 produce manager,

00:21:15.360 I do believe.

00:21:16.600 And her

00:21:17.220 colleague at

00:21:17.880 that same

00:21:18.280 time, her

00:21:18.960 partner showed

00:21:20.760 up.

00:21:21.800 And within

00:21:22.620 about 10

00:21:23.040 minutes, they

00:21:23.420 came out to

00:21:23.800 my car and

00:21:24.460 he himself

00:21:25.260 asked me again,

00:21:26.040 he said, you

00:21:26.440 know, you have

00:21:27.280 a medical

00:21:27.620 exemption.

00:21:28.180 I said, yes,

00:21:28.740 I reiterated

00:21:29.420 that.

00:21:29.740 He said, well,

00:21:30.160 what for?

00:21:30.640 And I said, I'm

00:21:31.100 not going to

00:21:31.840 tell you that.

00:21:33.100 And then he

00:21:33.860 said, well, do

00:21:34.240 you have a

00:21:34.560 note or any

00:21:35.160 medical information

00:21:35.920 on you that

00:21:36.380 would show

00:21:37.320 proof that

00:21:37.940 you're exempt?

00:21:38.900 I said, no,

00:21:39.760 not on me.

00:21:40.620 But I said, I

00:21:41.220 could get

00:21:41.980 something from

00:21:42.820 my doctor stating

00:21:44.180 that I am

00:21:44.840 exempt.

00:21:45.620 I didn't know I

00:21:46.120 had to carry

00:21:46.540 that.

00:21:47.360 The police

00:21:48.280 informed me that,

00:21:49.000 yes, you do

00:21:49.500 have to show

00:21:50.060 proof, even if

00:21:51.260 it is a note.

00:21:51.840 I said, okay,

00:21:52.260 that's new to

00:21:52.740 me.

00:21:53.520 But I said,

00:21:53.960 what I'm

00:21:54.280 willing to do

00:21:55.120 is show you

00:21:55.660 guys that letter

00:21:56.400 at a later date.

00:21:57.160 Is that okay?

00:21:57.760 He said, well,

00:21:58.380 do you have it

00:21:58.840 on you now?

00:21:59.720 I don't know why

00:22:00.200 he would ask me

00:22:00.640 that because we

00:22:01.100 just went through

00:22:01.460 that.

00:22:01.640 I said, no,

00:22:02.080 again, I don't

00:22:02.640 have any proof

00:22:03.220 on me now.

00:22:04.080 And he said,

00:22:04.660 well, no,

00:22:05.220 unfortunately,

00:22:05.620 you're going to

00:22:05.980 get a ticket.

00:22:06.440 So the female 1.00

00:22:09.540 officer proceeded

00:22:10.260 to write the

00:22:10.880 ticket, gave me

00:22:11.860 the ticket, told

00:22:12.860 me what my

00:22:13.280 options were, and

00:22:14.540 it was for a

00:22:14.980 ticket of $1,000.

00:22:16.600 I even got my

00:22:17.540 local MLA

00:22:18.580 involved who was

00:22:21.160 aware of my

00:22:21.680 medical exemption

00:22:22.300 who contacted

00:22:23.400 the police

00:22:26.120 department and

00:22:26.680 let them know,

00:22:27.200 listen, I know

00:22:27.800 we didn't have

00:22:28.220 any proof on

00:22:28.740 him at the

00:22:28.980 time, but our

00:22:30.700 office can vouch

00:22:31.480 for Mr.

00:22:32.000 Landrieu and say

00:22:32.720 that he has a

00:22:33.300 medical exemption

00:22:34.000 during this time

00:22:35.080 of the ticket.

00:22:35.480 And, you

00:22:36.520 know, could

00:22:36.780 this ticket,

00:22:37.280 could this be

00:22:37.700 resolved?

00:22:38.240 Like, could it

00:22:38.540 be rescinded?

00:22:39.500 And they said,

00:22:40.280 no, they said

00:22:40.880 it's going to

00:22:41.100 be passed on

00:22:41.600 to the crown.

00:22:42.420 It'll be in

00:22:42.760 the crown's

00:22:43.140 hands and then

00:22:44.180 they can kind

00:22:45.080 of deal with

00:22:45.520 it, right?

00:22:45.980 So at that

00:22:47.180 point, I'm a

00:22:49.340 single father and

00:22:50.460 my income is like

00:22:52.500 a lot of

00:22:52.860 people's is just,

00:22:55.580 you know, making

00:22:56.100 ends meet some

00:22:56.860 months, right?

00:22:57.440 And I thought

00:22:57.880 to myself, you

00:22:58.540 know, I have a

00:22:59.020 medical exemption

00:22:59.640 and I don't

00:23:01.500 believe this should

00:23:02.220 have been done

00:23:02.640 this way, but I

00:23:03.820 need some help.

00:23:04.600 And being a

00:23:05.960 rebel subscriber

00:23:06.820 and I knew you

00:23:08.860 guys had fight

00:23:09.460 to find, so I

00:23:10.320 thought I'll

00:23:11.120 fill out the

00:23:11.580 application, go

00:23:12.900 from there, had

00:23:13.820 my fingers crossed

00:23:14.620 and lots of

00:23:15.080 prayers and I

00:23:15.580 said, I hope

00:23:15.920 they can, I hope

00:23:16.740 rebel can come to

00:23:17.420 my rescue.

00:23:18.140 And come to his

00:23:19.480 rescue is precisely

00:23:20.900 what we did.

00:23:22.400 Indeed, our legal

00:23:23.300 team saved Brian

00:23:24.900 Landrieu from having

00:23:26.320 to pay a $1,000

00:23:27.700 fine and we saved

00:23:29.800 him from the 1.00

00:23:30.760 stupidity and 1.00

00:23:32.020 ignorance of a 1.00

00:23:33.300 police officer and 0.98

00:23:34.320 a store manager

00:23:35.140 who were demanding

00:23:36.460 information that

00:23:38.040 they had absolutely

00:23:39.280 no right to see.

00:23:41.480 It just goes on

00:23:43.000 and on, doesn't

00:23:43.820 it, folks?

00:23:44.720 And joining me now

00:23:45.680 for more on this

00:23:46.700 egregious story,

00:23:47.780 albeit one with a

00:23:48.580 happy ending, is

00:23:49.740 Sheila Gunn-Reed.

00:23:51.160 How you doing there,

00:23:51.900 Sheila?

00:23:52.860 David, I'm great.

00:23:53.860 Thanks for having me

00:23:54.480 on the show.

00:23:55.140 Always a pleasure.

00:23:56.300 Sheila, Brian seems

00:23:58.020 like such a down-to-earth,

00:24:00.040 super nice guy.

00:24:01.080 He doesn't strike me

00:24:02.880 as the sort who is,

00:24:04.080 you know, wearing

00:24:04.880 trouble on his shirt.

00:24:06.380 You know, he's not

00:24:07.000 going into the grocery

00:24:07.920 store, you know, to

00:24:09.260 cause trouble.

00:24:09.940 He's just doing some

00:24:10.660 shopping.

00:24:11.640 But the maddening thing

00:24:13.120 here is this.

00:24:14.880 We are more than a

00:24:15.940 year and a half into

00:24:16.900 this bloody pandemic

00:24:18.140 and yet even now,

00:24:20.320 people who should know

00:24:21.300 better, i.e.

00:24:22.340 law enforcement

00:24:23.080 officers, are still 0.57

00:24:25.260 clearly ignorant of

00:24:26.720 the laws that they

00:24:28.160 are entrusted to

00:24:29.100 enforce.

00:24:29.860 Sheila, what gives?

00:24:31.800 Well, that's the

00:24:32.500 thing.

00:24:32.800 Like, if Brian didn't

00:24:34.180 have fight the fines,

00:24:36.000 Brian probably would

00:24:37.020 have just paid the

00:24:37.760 ticket.

00:24:38.580 And Brian's just a

00:24:39.840 regular guy.

00:24:40.460 That's a lot of money

00:24:41.300 for anybody, really,

00:24:43.360 to just make the

00:24:46.400 ticket go away.

00:24:47.740 But that's, for us,

00:24:49.280 that's not the right

00:24:50.360 thing to do because

00:24:51.660 Brian didn't do

00:24:52.740 anything wrong.

00:24:53.820 Having a medical

00:24:54.560 condition or any

00:24:56.040 condition that prevents

00:24:57.840 you from wearing a

00:24:58.700 mask is not a crime

00:25:00.020 in this country.

00:25:01.080 And if you need to

00:25:02.920 get groceries, you

00:25:03.940 shouldn't have to

00:25:04.560 choose between risking

00:25:05.960 my physical health or

00:25:07.660 my mental health to put

00:25:09.320 on this mask to go get

00:25:10.840 groceries.

00:25:11.180 You should just be able

00:25:12.500 to do what you need to

00:25:13.600 do.

00:25:13.880 And everybody else should

00:25:16.480 just mind their business.

00:25:18.960 You see, that's where

00:25:20.680 most of the problems of

00:25:22.160 the pandemic come from,

00:25:23.560 right?

00:25:24.200 Somebody not minding

00:25:25.300 their business and just

00:25:27.160 worrying about what

00:25:28.440 they're doing.

00:25:29.400 Somebody worried about

00:25:30.620 what Brian was doing and

00:25:32.280 why Brian wasn't wearing

00:25:33.880 a mask.

00:25:34.280 So they called the cops and

00:25:35.800 then put Brian through this

00:25:37.060 big ordeal.

00:25:37.880 And then we had to step in

00:25:39.600 and help Brian fight his

00:25:41.220 ticket thanks to a

00:25:42.600 partnership with the

00:25:43.400 Democracy Fund and

00:25:44.900 everybody's generous

00:25:45.820 donations.

00:25:46.980 But that's where it seems

00:25:48.640 to me that all the

00:25:49.360 problems of the pandemic

00:25:50.160 come from.

00:25:51.180 Just worry about what

00:25:53.240 you're doing in a grocery

00:25:54.340 store.

00:25:54.840 And if you see somebody

00:25:55.760 who's not wearing a mask,

00:25:57.780 keep going.

00:25:59.020 Smile under your mask and

00:26:00.700 keep going because you

00:26:01.720 don't know what that

00:26:02.540 person is going through.

00:26:03.560 You know, we've discussed

00:26:05.240 this before, Sheila, this

00:26:06.780 pandemic, these, this is

00:26:08.760 the salad day time for the

00:26:11.060 COVID Karens out there.

00:26:12.880 And I'm not being sexist

00:26:14.380 with that language.

00:26:15.080 If it's a male acting that

00:26:16.820 way, I also call him a

00:26:18.580 COVID Karen.

00:26:19.560 The fact that they love

00:26:21.840 ratting out people, they

00:26:23.320 love lecturing people.

00:26:25.220 And we've seen videos,

00:26:26.580 haven't we, Sheila, where

00:26:27.420 you're in a dollar store

00:26:28.860 or what have you, and

00:26:29.640 somebody's running up to an

00:26:31.180 unmatched shopper saying,

00:26:32.760 you're putting my life at

00:26:33.880 risk.

00:26:34.220 But they're getting in

00:26:35.380 their grill as opposed to

00:26:37.200 if they really believed

00:26:38.100 that, you'd be walking

00:26:39.820 away.

00:26:40.420 But by the same token,

00:26:42.940 law enforcement, surely by

00:26:45.120 now, should know the rules.

00:26:47.240 They should know that we do

00:26:50.380 not have the right to ask

00:26:52.720 for your papers, please.

00:26:54.700 Maybe they're going to

00:26:55.300 change that.

00:26:56.240 So why is this still going

00:26:57.600 on?

00:26:58.000 They must know what the lay

00:27:00.640 of the land is by now,

00:27:01.760 Sheila.

00:27:02.760 Do you know, I was

00:27:03.340 talking to Brian's fight

00:27:04.460 the fines lawyer, Christina,

00:27:05.940 this morning on another

00:27:07.400 case.

00:27:08.220 Stay tuned.

00:27:09.000 That's a huge one.

00:27:10.000 You won't even believe how

00:27:11.000 bad that one is.

00:27:12.180 And she said that part of

00:27:14.720 the problem is that these

00:27:16.380 rules are changing so fast

00:27:18.860 all the time that you can't

00:27:21.860 expect even law enforcement

00:27:23.340 to know them, let alone the

00:27:25.220 people who are trying to

00:27:26.380 stay on the right side of

00:27:27.420 them.

00:27:27.600 And so that's part of the

00:27:28.960 problem here.

00:27:29.600 But I don't think that

00:27:30.920 that's the real problem

00:27:32.320 here, because I think most

00:27:34.500 cops know that there are

00:27:36.040 people out there who can't

00:27:37.460 wear a mask for whatever

00:27:38.920 reason.

00:27:39.360 And then when they tell you

00:27:40.780 that, that's where it should

00:27:42.280 stop, because they're really

00:27:43.720 not putting anybody else in

00:27:45.180 danger.

00:27:46.160 One of the things that I

00:27:46.980 despise about the the

00:27:48.960 pandemic is.

00:27:51.040 Like, if your mask works,

00:27:53.000 why doesn't it work?

00:27:53.860 Like, if your mask works,

00:27:55.040 what do you care if I'm not

00:27:55.960 wearing one?

00:27:56.480 If your vaccine works, what

00:27:58.100 do you care if I'm not

00:27:58.920 vaccinated?

00:27:59.980 But it's it's not about

00:28:02.380 efficacy.

00:28:03.540 It's not about science.

00:28:05.160 It's that we all must agree

00:28:07.420 all the time on all these

00:28:10.000 issues.

00:28:10.460 And if we all don't agree,

00:28:12.760 then the cops are going to

00:28:14.140 make us all agree.

00:28:15.060 Apparently, that's how it

00:28:16.100 works.

00:28:16.360 And and you're so right about

00:28:17.840 this whole idea now that we

00:28:19.920 must produce papers, that we

00:28:21.720 have to tell perfect strangers

00:28:23.060 our our private medical

00:28:24.920 history.

00:28:25.400 I've taken to putting this

00:28:27.620 all into context.

00:28:28.540 I call these people medical

00:28:30.340 voyeurs or public health

00:28:33.120 peeping toms because that's

00:28:34.400 really what they are.

00:28:35.200 If they were looking in your

00:28:36.180 window to find out.

00:28:38.660 Are they wearing a mask?

00:28:40.220 What is their medical history?

00:28:41.760 You would call the cops on

00:28:42.960 them.

00:28:43.420 But now they're calling the

00:28:44.360 cops on you because you

00:28:45.300 won't tell them what your

00:28:46.440 medical history is.

00:28:48.040 Oh, and Sheila, you know,

00:28:49.380 there is a surreal element to

00:28:52.020 this, don't you find?

00:28:52.940 And I mean, I think back to a

00:28:55.020 few months ago, a story I did

00:28:56.280 on a Toronto home hardware

00:28:58.060 store that shooed out a

00:28:59.480 customer who purposely went

00:29:01.160 there to give the little home

00:29:02.240 hardware store business as

00:29:03.420 opposed to the big box just

00:29:05.180 two clicks away.

00:29:07.080 And he pointed out that right

00:29:09.320 on the sign in their own

00:29:10.460 window, there is an

00:29:12.620 exemption, a medical exemption

00:29:14.300 for customers.

00:29:15.080 And the home hardware employee

00:29:17.260 went into the store, came back

00:29:19.200 out and duct taped over the

00:29:22.340 law on the sign, which you're

00:29:23.880 not allowed to do.

00:29:24.720 And then, of course, an added

00:29:26.640 layer of surreality was one of

00:29:30.440 our very first fight the fines

00:29:31.900 stories.

00:29:32.720 It was yours, Sheila.

00:29:34.420 Also, also out on the East

00:29:36.220 Coast, the senior citizen in his

00:29:39.400 car by himself at a Tim Hortons

00:29:42.260 parking lot that had a window

00:29:45.060 rolled up windows rolled up

00:29:46.840 that had a very rude RCMP

00:29:51.280 officer read him the riot act

00:29:54.380 and give him a ticket.

00:29:56.360 You know, Sheila, I don't know

00:29:57.760 where I'm going with this other

00:29:58.900 than have people lost their

00:30:00.660 minds during this pandemic?

00:30:02.980 You know, Walter Matheson's

00:30:04.800 story, we should have paid

00:30:05.920 closer attention to it because it

00:30:07.360 was a harbinger of things to

00:30:08.560 come.

00:30:08.940 Yes.

00:30:09.260 At the time, we thought it was

00:30:10.440 ridiculous that a man sitting 1.00

00:30:11.780 alone in his car with the 0.98

00:30:13.040 windows rolled up eating a

00:30:14.200 muffin would somehow be a danger

00:30:15.480 to public health.

00:30:16.180 But now we have the federal

00:30:17.480 government mandating vaccines

00:30:19.140 for federal employees who work

00:30:20.900 from home and people who work

00:30:22.600 in federally regulated industries

00:30:24.680 from home, like doing remote

00:30:28.020 tech help for a telecom company

00:30:31.000 like Rogers or Telus.

00:30:32.320 Those people all have to get

00:30:33.620 vaccines now because it's a

00:30:36.080 federally regulated industry and

00:30:37.600 they might not ever come in

00:30:39.180 contact with another co-worker

00:30:41.120 physically speaking during their

00:30:43.700 entire employment.

00:30:45.340 But now the federal government

00:30:47.200 says they too have to be

00:30:48.460 vaccinated and it doesn't make 1.00

00:30:50.340 any sense because they are alone

00:30:52.080 and we should have paid closer

00:30:53.340 attention to Walter Matheson's

00:30:55.140 case at the time because it

00:30:56.580 doesn't matter if you're alone.

00:30:58.300 Apparently, you can be alone in a

00:30:59.720 car with the windows rolled up and

00:31:00.980 be a public health danger.

00:31:02.500 Likewise, you can be sitting at

00:31:03.680 your kitchen table working on your

00:31:05.000 work computer, just you and the

00:31:06.300 dog and a cup of coffee.

00:31:07.860 And according to Justin Trudeau,

00:31:09.640 you are also a public health

00:31:10.940 danger.

00:31:11.920 Unbelievable.

00:31:12.740 Well, Sheila, this story has a

00:31:14.680 happy ending and good for Brian.

00:31:16.140 I mean, he's a single father.

00:31:17.720 As he mentioned in your interview,

00:31:19.080 some months he's just making ends

00:31:21.200 meet.

00:31:21.980 A thousand dollars is a very big

00:31:24.620 deal indeed to Brian.

00:31:26.280 And I'm so glad we helped him.

00:31:28.620 And one last point, Sheila, if any

00:31:30.480 of our viewers want to help us with

00:31:32.960 his legal fees, where do they go to

00:31:35.080 make a donation if they're able?

00:31:36.300 They can go to fightthefines.com.

00:31:39.780 All donations there now qualify for a

00:31:41.700 charitable tax receipt through our

00:31:43.080 partnership with the Registered

00:31:44.300 Canadian Charity, the Democracy Fund.

00:31:46.760 And let me just thank everybody who

00:31:48.560 donates and continues to donate because

00:31:50.720 you may not get to speak to the people

00:31:52.800 who are being helped through Fight the

00:31:54.920 Fines.

00:31:55.560 But while I mean, in this pandemic, you

00:31:59.240 might feel like you can't change the

00:32:01.100 world.

00:32:01.320 The world is sort of changing for the

00:32:03.000 worse.

00:32:03.380 And you feel like you can't change

00:32:05.100 the world.

00:32:05.440 But let me tell you, your donations

00:32:07.420 are changing the world for people

00:32:10.660 like Brian, because if he had to pay

00:32:12.380 a thousand dollar ticket, it would

00:32:13.480 have been a catastrophe.

00:32:15.340 And because he didn't have to, through

00:32:17.320 your generosity, he can carry on, take

00:32:20.040 care of his kids and take care of

00:32:21.480 himself.

00:32:21.860 So that is the difference of the

00:32:23.700 Fight the Fines program and the

00:32:25.460 Democracy Fund and all of you at home.

00:32:27.920 A hundred percent.

00:32:28.520 And basically, Sheila, who else is

00:32:31.240 going to bat for these people that

00:32:32.960 are being victimized and bullied by

00:32:35.560 law enforcement people that really

00:32:37.320 should know better?

00:32:38.760 Sheila, you have a wonderful

00:32:40.060 Thanksgiving with your family and we

00:32:42.820 will chat next week.

00:32:45.040 I will.

00:32:45.400 I'm going to be breaking all the

00:32:46.980 gathering rules, too.

00:32:48.620 Yeah, that's right.

00:32:50.480 Or Vaxgiving, as Mayor John Tory calls

00:32:53.440 it in these parts.

00:32:54.300 Unbelievable.

00:32:55.200 Thank you so much, Sheila.

00:32:56.860 Hi, David.

00:32:57.340 And that was Sheila Gunn-Reed,

00:32:59.980 somewhere in the northern hinterland

00:33:01.660 of Alberta.

00:33:02.380 Keep it here, folks.

00:33:03.200 More of Rebel Roundup to come right

00:33:04.840 after this.

00:33:10.520 When we try to reverse engineer

00:33:13.260 this, Rick, what is behind all this?

00:33:16.700 Is it necessarily Premier Doug Ford or

00:33:19.380 is it Corey T'Nike, who has

00:33:22.380 apparently the ear of the Premier and

00:33:24.560 is also the lobbyist?

00:33:27.420 He runs Rubicon.

00:33:29.840 He has several pharmaceutical clients,

00:33:32.980 including, I believe, Pfizer and

00:33:34.520 AstraZeneca.

00:33:35.700 And I understand you had discussions

00:33:38.740 with him when you were still in

00:33:39.960 caucus.

00:33:40.760 Didn't go nicely, did it?

00:33:42.340 You know, I noticed that several times

00:33:43.980 during caucus when I would question

00:33:46.000 the science table or I would question

00:33:49.200 ministers on the direction that we were

00:33:51.440 headed, one time I actually caught him

00:33:54.220 because we were doing these Zoom

00:33:55.580 meetings, caught him just shaking his

00:33:58.480 head negatively.

00:34:00.180 And I thought, oh, okay, so he's not

00:34:01.800 agreeing with what I'm saying.

00:34:03.380 And however, you know, I challenged.

00:34:05.500 I stood up for children.

00:34:07.220 I stood up for, you know, the reasons.

00:34:09.180 Why are we doing these vax passes?

00:34:11.220 Why are we doing, you know, all of this

00:34:13.240 vaccination per se?

00:34:14.660 I said, listen, I'm not an anti-vaxxer.

00:34:16.240 But again, I want to reiterate, though,

00:34:18.140 that now you have companies, just

00:34:20.000 because John Tory came out the day

00:34:22.200 after I was removed from caucus, he

00:34:24.980 said that he was going to make it

00:34:26.360 mandatory for all public service

00:34:29.180 workers for the City of Toronto.

00:34:31.260 They had to be vaccinated by a certain

00:34:33.420 date, I believe around in October

00:34:35.480 sometime.

00:34:36.540 And if not, they were going to be

00:34:37.720 fired.

00:34:38.480 Well, excuse me, you know, what makes

00:34:40.740 you so almighty?

00:34:42.280 And so I had some real serious

00:34:43.680 concerns about that.

00:34:44.420 But here's the downside, further

00:34:46.120 downside.

00:34:47.160 You know, a lot of municipalities

00:34:48.220 decided, well, then if John Tory's

00:34:50.020 doing it, perhaps maybe the thinking

00:34:51.600 was we better do it, too.

00:34:53.540 And I'm thinking, what changed from

00:34:55.240 yesterday to today?

00:34:56.640 Really and truly.

00:34:57.520 Our workplaces were safe.

00:34:58.780 We had proper COVID protocols in

00:35:00.820 place.

00:35:01.240 People were working.

00:35:02.220 People were happy.

00:35:03.520 You take a look at our health care

00:35:04.660 situation right now and you look at

00:35:06.880 the nurses who these nurses for 0.99

00:35:09.500 18 months, 18 to 20 months, they

00:35:12.480 would go in and they would care for

00:35:14.040 these people.

00:35:14.840 Most of them had the COVID

00:35:16.360 patients had additional

00:35:18.000 comorbidities.

00:35:20.400 And yet, you know, and they wore the

00:35:21.780 proper PPE, but they weren't

00:35:23.620 vaccinated.

00:35:24.700 And very few of them ever caught

00:35:26.280 sick, you know.

00:35:27.360 And then all of a sudden now they

00:35:29.280 have to be vaccinated or else

00:35:31.240 they're going to be fired.

00:35:32.500 You go from hero to zero.

00:35:34.520 And that's not right.

00:35:36.060 And now it's affecting even

00:35:37.240 children, too.

00:35:38.200 You know, you're absolutely right,

00:35:39.300 Rick.

00:35:39.500 I mean, they were the frontline

00:35:40.520 hero celebrated for last year and a

00:35:42.740 half and how they've become modern

00:35:44.720 day typhoid Marys, if you will.

00:35:47.520 It's despicable.

00:35:48.560 But I understand when you had

00:35:50.440 conversations with Corey, he used

00:35:53.920 language that I thought was very

00:35:56.240 inflammatory.

00:35:57.760 I think he, and please correct me if

00:35:59.400 I'm wrong, he called you a cookie

00:36:01.300 conspiracy theorist.

00:36:03.060 He said the party would be better off

00:36:05.400 without you than with you in the

00:36:07.900 party.

00:36:08.140 Corey, I'm staggered by that.

00:36:10.200 In the brief time we've known each

00:36:11.460 other, I think you're a man of

00:36:12.640 principle.

00:36:13.240 I think you're a good man.

00:36:15.260 Why would he say this?

00:36:17.600 Well, that's an excellent question.

00:36:19.080 I don't know why he would say this.

00:36:20.960 He has obviously his own agenda and

00:36:23.340 he has people in caucus that I think

00:36:25.080 that he would like to see removed.

00:36:27.020 And so he does what in football, they

00:36:29.600 call it a straight arm.

00:36:31.420 And of course, I'm sure that that's

00:36:32.920 exactly what he's doing.

00:36:34.400 He has the ear of Premier Ford.

00:36:35.840 And of course, it's not just him.

00:36:38.220 There are others that perhaps have

00:36:40.520 comments and thoughts with regards

00:36:43.400 to caucus members.

00:36:44.760 But I was appalled at the fact that he

00:36:47.600 would actually bully me, telling me you

00:36:50.700 have 72 hours to get vaccinated or

00:36:53.260 you're going to be sitting with the

00:36:54.220 independents.

00:36:55.180 So you either better have a very good

00:36:56.840 medical exemption, reason why you

00:36:59.580 cannot get the vaccine or you're going

00:37:02.060 to be gone.

00:37:02.640 And I tried to reason with him and

00:37:03.880 he'd have nothing to do with it at all.

00:37:05.700 He says, I don't care.

00:37:06.760 He said, 72 hours.

00:37:08.980 Not by 5 o'clock on Thursday.

00:37:11.220 That was back on the Monday.

00:37:13.080 Then, of course, then I'm sitting in

00:37:15.420 the independent side and the rest is

00:37:16.860 history.

00:37:17.260 Here I am sitting in the independent

00:37:18.400 side.

00:37:19.200 Never been freer to speak my mind over

00:37:21.760 the last three plus years than right

00:37:23.720 now.

00:37:24.500 Well, that must feel good.

00:37:25.540 But I think, Rick, as always, as we

00:37:27.680 say in this business, follow the money.

00:37:29.400 And certainly what's good for

00:37:31.560 AstraZeneca and good for Pfizer, i.e.

00:37:34.380 mandatory jabbing policies is very good

00:37:37.740 for Rubicon and extremely good for the

00:37:40.620 co-founder of Rubicon.

00:37:42.040 And that would be one, Corey, tonight.

00:37:44.380 Is that what this is all about, perhaps?

00:37:46.540 Well, again, you have to follow the money

00:37:48.720 on that one.

00:37:49.540 Might one might perceive that that is, in

00:37:52.800 fact, the case because a lot of the things

00:37:55.080 that have been happening and a lot of the

00:37:56.480 rules and regulations, even here at

00:37:58.040 Queens Park, don't make a lot of sense.

00:38:00.160 Yes, follow the money indeed.

00:38:03.280 How sad that a MPP standing up for

00:38:06.240 principles is booted from caucus and then

00:38:09.900 has to relinquish his deputy speaker gig.

00:38:13.380 Yet Premier Doug Ford, well, he's only too

00:38:16.020 happy to do the bidding of a powerful

00:38:18.120 lobbyist representing Big Pharma.

00:38:20.420 And surely it is only a coincidence that

00:38:24.360 Ford is now all in when it comes to

00:38:27.060 mandatory vaccinations.

00:38:28.400 Whereas he used to say he was dead set

00:38:31.900 against such coercion.

00:38:34.040 Unbelievable.

00:38:35.120 In any event, you had plenty to say about

00:38:37.640 the fate of Rick Nichols and the fact that

00:38:40.380 an unelected lobbyist seemingly has the

00:38:43.540 Premier doing all his bidding.

00:38:47.360 In Finlor writes, none of this is legal.

00:38:51.400 How is it just constantly rolling ahead

00:38:54.140 without any pushback?

00:38:55.600 Well, in Corrie tonight, we have a

00:38:58.240 lobbyist for Big Pharma who enjoys a very

00:39:01.460 cozy relationship with the Premier.

00:39:03.840 A Premier who, of course, would go on to do a

00:39:05.980 policy flip-flop and mandate the compulsory

00:39:09.280 injection of certain Big Pharma products.

00:39:13.040 If you want the full rights and freedoms of

00:39:15.460 citizenship, that is.

00:39:17.140 In my eyes, this is immoral and unethical.

00:39:20.080 But hey, maybe there is indeed a case to be made here

00:39:23.500 regarding illegal influence peddling.

00:39:27.080 So who knows?

00:39:28.020 Maybe one day this will indeed be headed to a courtroom.

00:39:32.140 Stay tuned.

00:39:33.500 Sheila Chapman writes,

00:39:34.860 Doug Ford is something else.

00:39:37.200 Please, people from Ontario, never let him back in. 1.00

00:39:40.520 We need a new Premier.

00:39:41.960 His business is open during a pandemic,

00:39:44.960 selling decals and pandemic stuff.

00:39:47.440 Yeah, sounds about right.

00:39:49.360 That and cheesecake.

00:39:51.600 Wow.

00:39:52.380 Doug will never live down that cherry cheesecake video, eh?

00:39:56.140 And you are right, Sheila.

00:39:58.280 The pandemic has been very good for his company, 1.00

00:40:00.680 Deco Labels, which has never shut down

00:40:03.260 to the best of my knowledge.

00:40:04.960 But the problem is this.

00:40:07.180 The progressive conservative government

00:40:08.940 has done an awful job managing the pandemic.

00:40:12.340 And I have met scores of people who voted PC back in 2018

00:40:16.960 who will definitely not be voting PC in 2022.

00:40:21.200 But if the Liberals or the NDP were in charge,

00:40:24.100 would things really be any better?

00:40:26.400 Talk about being between a rock

00:40:28.180 and a stale slice of cherry cheesecake.

00:40:32.040 Kevin Wants to Shred writes,

00:40:34.180 Well said, Kevin.

00:40:43.620 But in Doug Ford's government,

00:40:45.320 the slogan that is embraced

00:40:46.900 seems to be that lyric from the song

00:40:49.200 Home on the Range, you know,

00:40:50.820 where seldom is heard a discouraging word.

00:40:54.020 Because if you dare voice

00:40:55.820 a contrarian opinion to Premier Dofo,

00:40:59.320 you are kicked out of caucus,

00:41:01.120 just ask Rick Nichols and Belinda Carajalios

00:41:04.620 and Randy Hillier and Roman Baber.

00:41:08.740 And I'm sure I'm missing a few others

00:41:10.680 that were abruptly showing the door.

00:41:13.380 Yet meanwhile, Ford has plenty of time

00:41:16.220 for the unelected Corey Tanek.

00:41:19.140 After all, Corey represents clients

00:41:21.200 that earn billions of dollars.

00:41:23.780 And apparently in Ford's Ontario,

00:41:26.300 money talks and contrarian MPPs walk.

00:41:31.780 And Old School writes,

00:41:33.380 So in 10 years from now,

00:41:35.340 no one will be hired

00:41:36.480 because they are unvaxxed?

00:41:38.740 Well, Old School,

00:41:39.760 if you are not getting the COVID-19 vaccine,

00:41:42.560 that is certainly going to be harmful

00:41:44.600 to your economic health.

00:41:46.860 Every day here at Rebel News,

00:41:48.780 we get emails from people

00:41:50.480 who are being threatened with termination

00:41:52.640 or have already been fired.

00:41:54.780 Meanwhile, I'm sure business

00:41:56.640 has never been better at Rubicon.

00:41:58.360 I can only ponder how many millions

00:42:01.520 Corey Tanek is raking in

00:42:03.640 thanks to his puppet premier,

00:42:05.920 Doug Ford,

00:42:07.100 mandating vaccines

00:42:08.440 that are being manufactured

00:42:09.780 by Corey's big pharma clients.

00:42:13.500 Sickening.

00:42:14.560 Well, that wraps up

00:42:15.780 another edition of Rebel Roundup.

00:42:17.580 Thanks so much for joining us.

00:42:19.140 See you next week.

00:42:20.500 Have a happy Thanksgiving.

00:42:21.980 And hey, folks,

00:42:22.960 never forget,

00:42:23.840 without risk,

00:42:25.160 there can be no glory.

00:42:26.500 Good night.

00:42:26.920 Good night.

00:42:26.960 Good night.
