Rebel News Podcast - Erin O'Toole hires ex-Huawei VP to run Conservative Party strategy

00:00:00.000 Hello, my friends. Some crazy news today. I can't even believe it. Aaron O'Toole just hired the

00:00:05.600 vice president of Huawei Canada to run the conservative issues management and research

00:00:11.240 team. I thought it was a joke. I thought it was just gossip. I thought, frankly,

00:00:16.120 someone was trolling me. No. Aaron O'Toole took Meng Wanzhou's top guy in Canada and said,

00:00:22.600 that's the guy for me. I'll show you the proof in a minute. Hey, before I do, let me invite you to

00:00:27.540 become a subscriber to Rebel News Plus. That's the video version of this. I wish you would,

00:00:31.940 because today I want to show you the LinkedIn page, the resume of this Huawei VP. I want to

00:00:37.900 show you some tweets that Aaron O'Toole was making about Huawei while he was secretly negotiating with

00:00:44.640 this VP. It's pretty gross. To get the video version, just sign up at rebelnews.com and click

00:00:50.940 subscribe. It's eight bucks a month, 80 bucks for the whole year. You get my video show plus

00:00:56.660 one from Sheila Gunn-Reed, David Menzies, Andrew Chapados, and frankly, you're going to get the only

00:01:03.820 independent news left in this country, I'm afraid to say. All right, here's today's podcast.

00:01:08.180 Tonight, Aaron O'Toole hires the vice president of Huawei Canada. What on earth is he thinking?

00:01:30.120 It's March 4th, and this is the Ezra LeVance Show.

00:01:32.380 Why should others go to jail when you're a biggest carbon consumer I know?

00:01:38.140 There's 8,500 customers here, and you won't give them an answer.

00:01:42.200 The only thing I have to say to the government about why I publish it is because it's my bloody

00:01:47.080 right to do so.

00:01:52.820 I thought it was a bad joke. It's not. Aaron O'Toole has just hired Huawei's former vice

00:01:59.440 president in Canada to run the Conservative Party's most important department. Jake Enright,

00:02:05.740 who was the vice president at Huawei, is now in charge of Aaron O'Toole's research and issues

00:02:11.660 management. I can't even believe it. I had heard the rumor and thought, no way. But it's true.

00:02:18.520 They're even bragging about it. Here's the Ottawa-focused news site iPolitics. It's in a story about

00:02:24.760 Hill Movers, as in movers and shakers. Let me quote the story. 0.96

00:02:30.340 And other staff are heading back to the Hill after a brief hiatus in the private sector.

00:02:34.740 Jake Enright, who started a new gig this week handling research and issues management for

00:02:40.160 the Conservatives. Since May 2019, he had worked for National Public Affairs, and he also served

00:02:45.760 briefly as vice president of corporate affairs for Huawei Technologies.

00:02:50.180 But that's not quite true. Here's Enright's LinkedIn page, his own resume. You can see he was

00:02:58.440 hired in June of 2018 as the director of corporate affairs for Huawei Canada. I bet that paid pretty

00:03:05.520 well. He was in charge of corporate affairs in December of 2018, which is when his boss, the

00:03:12.560 company's CFO, and the daughter of the president, her name is Meng Wanzhou, was arrested in Vancouver

00:03:19.080 on charges of fraud. And immediately after that, the Chinese dictatorship kidnapped two Canadian

00:03:25.360 civilians, seizing them right off the streets of Beijing as retribution, Michael Kovrig and Michael

00:03:32.000 Spavor. Enright was the director of corporate affairs for Huawei Canada during this crisis. As you can see

00:03:39.520 by his resume, he left the position the very next month. But not because he quit in disgust with Huawei

00:03:47.060 and in solidarity with Canada, he left his position as director because he accepted a promotion. The very

00:03:53.500 next month, he accepted a promotion to become the key architect of Huawei's propaganda war here in Canada

00:03:59.060 against our country, against the two Michaels, and in defense of the dictatorship. He got the promotion 0.91

00:04:05.120 immediately after the two Michaels were kidnapped. He was made VP. For nearly a full year, he worked for that

00:04:13.260 Chinese Communist Party front company, a company that got its start by hacking into Canada's great tech 0.97

00:04:20.080 hope. Nortel, remember them? Huawei stole their intellectual property and helped bankrupt them.

00:04:27.700 That's who Jake Enright worked for. Huawei is accused of crimes. It's why Meng Wanzhou is under house arrest in

00:04:35.820 Vancouver. Huawei is untrustworthy. They're an arm of the dictatorship. They spy. I'm not saying that

00:04:42.480 Jake Enright is a criminal. He didn't commit fraud, and he didn't kidnap anyone. And I don't think he's a

00:04:48.040 communist. Sort of the opposite. He probably got paid a lot of money to be Huawei's point man on this.

00:04:54.420 None of that is illegal, but it is disgraceful. Would you go to work for your country's enemy?

00:04:59.860 So gross. But he made his choices. What on earth is Aaron O'Toole doing hiring him as the head of 0.97

00:05:07.680 research and issues management right before a looming election campaign? Aaron O'Toole just hired

00:05:13.500 Meng Wanzhou's right-hand man in Canada to be O'Toole's right-hand man in Canada. Aaron O'Toole just

00:05:19.600 hired the man who spent a year strategizing against Canadian interests to strategize for O'Toole.

00:05:25.740 What is going on? Aaron O'Toole fired Derek Sloan from the caucus? Aaron O'Toole fired Pierre

00:05:32.700 Polyev as finance critic? O'Toole's getting rid of strong conservatives, and I note that both Sloan

00:05:38.980 and Polyev were tough critics of China. So O'Toole is clearing out Canadian patriots like that

00:05:44.840 and hiring a lobbyist for the Communist Party's favorite tech company. Here's Enright's official

00:05:52.100 lobbyist registry in Canada. I don't even understand how that's possible since it would be illegal under

00:05:58.340 the Accountability Act for Enright to have actually lobbied then, given he had worked in the government

00:06:03.400 within the previous five years. I don't know. Maybe he was just registering out of an abundance

00:06:07.140 of caution. But look, none of this is really about Enright. There's a lot of people in Canadian society

00:06:13.120 who would sell out to China for a few pieces of silver. Our universities do. Hollywood does. 0.93

00:06:18.640 A lot of businesses do. It's pretty common. China can buy the loyalty of a lot of people.

00:06:25.640 But what's Aaron O'Toole's excuse? You know, there's more than 37 million people in Canada.

00:06:31.380 Millions of them are conservatives. Was the vice president of Huawei Canada really

00:06:35.940 the most qualified Canadian for the job? There was no one else in our whole country who could do it?

00:06:41.720 Literally the VP in charge of the company during the kidnapping of the two Michaels.

00:06:47.440 O'Toole saw that on this guy's resume and decided, that's the guy I want handling our most sensitive

00:06:53.100 political files. So O'Toole sees Pierre Polyev and Derek Sloan and thinks, they're embarrassing.

00:07:00.080 They're a PR mess. Get rid of them. 0.97

00:07:03.100 But he sees Mung Wan's old servant and says, that's my man.

00:07:05.880 And they're bragging about it to a Parliament Hill news website?

00:07:10.200 Just two weeks ago, you know, the conservatives were saying they don't trust Huawei.

00:07:14.620 Here's a tweet they made. Our allies don't think it's safe to work with Huawei.

00:07:19.580 You see, that's what they tell party members when they're asking for your donations.

00:07:23.660 Look at the date of that, February 17th. Today's March 4th. There's no way.

00:07:28.960 They weren't already negotiating with Huawei's guy to come over to run the conservative party.

00:07:33.380 There's no way. They weren't saying one thing in private to the Huawei guy and another in public

00:07:39.140 to get conservative party donors. Look at this tweet from three weeks ago.

00:07:44.460 A conservative MP was outraged that a liberal party activist went to work for Huawei.

00:07:49.740 At that same time, Aaron O'Toole was surely whining and dining Huawei's former VP to come work for him.

00:07:56.800 What, did they think you wouldn't find this out?

00:07:58.900 What? I'm shocked and grossed out, but I'd be lying if I said I was surprised.

00:08:03.720 Aaron O'Toole is untrustworthy.

00:08:06.540 He said he was against cancel culture, but he's been a practitioner of it. 0.99

00:08:10.080 He said he's against the carbon tax, but now he says he's for a net zero carbon policy.

00:08:15.540 He says he's against Huawei and China, but now he just hired their top man in Canada

00:08:20.480 to run the conservative party.

00:08:22.140 I'm starting to think we can't trust a word he says, except for when he says he wants your donations.

00:08:27.920 That I believe.

00:08:29.820 So fair enough. If you want to go give Aaron O'Toole money, click on conservative.ca.

00:08:35.700 And there's a big donate button right there.

00:08:37.420 I think he needs your donations because I can't imagine this Huawei guy works cheap.

00:08:42.520 He must have been making around half a million bucks a year working for China.

00:08:46.220 So if you're excited by this new hire, if you're glad Huawei's VP is now Aaron O'Toole's VP,

00:08:52.660 if you think this Huawei lobbyist is a better representation of conservative values than Pierre

00:08:57.760 Pallier or Derek Sloan, click on conservative.ca and give generously.

00:09:02.240 But if you're sort of sick of O'Toole and his lies, and you actually want to fight back

00:09:06.260 against Huawei and China, I have a better idea for you.

00:09:10.020 Sign our petition at banhuawei.com.

00:09:12.620 We'll deliver it to the government of Canada.

00:09:15.900 It sounds like we need to deliver it to the opposition in Canada too.

00:09:19.220 We have to let them know that this is not okay.

00:09:21.760 We are not going to accept this.

00:09:23.800 They need to rescind this job offer.

00:09:28.000 Go to banhuawei.com and sign it if you know.

00:09:31.880 If you actually think Huawei and the Chinese Communist Party,

00:09:36.240 if you actually think they're evil and we should fight against them,

00:09:40.460 not hire their leftovers, seriously, go to banhuawei.com

00:09:45.820 and we will deliver this petition to the government of Canada

00:09:48.760 and to Aaron O'Toole telling them to ban the Chinese spy company

00:09:53.520 just like many of our allies have done.

00:09:57.620 Or, you know, visit conservative.ca to help pay the salary

00:10:00.980 of a former Chinese intelligence asset.

00:10:04.600 That's what Aaron O'Toole wants you to do.

00:10:07.960 Stay with us for more.

00:10:09.020 Well, for a couple of weeks, we've been telling you the story

00:10:22.760 about the Grace Life Church just outside of Edmonton.

00:10:26.880 They have decided that they're going to be just like Walmart,

00:10:31.560 just like Costco, those churches of commerce.

00:10:35.820 Grace Life Church is a real church though,

00:10:37.600 unlike Costco and Walmart,

00:10:39.780 they're not allowed to have more than a handful of people within.

00:10:44.220 Well, they have decided to defy that discriminatory law.

00:10:50.080 And as a result, the government of Alberta

00:10:52.700 arrested and jailed their pastor, James Coates,

00:10:59.220 because he refused to say,

00:11:01.620 I will not open.

00:11:02.700 He's been in a maximum security prison in West Edmonton for more than two weeks.

00:11:08.900 And today there was a bail hearing to see just how long he would stay in.

00:11:14.300 Joining us now via Skype from outside the courthouse

00:11:17.060 is our friend Sheila Gunn-Reed, chief reporter who was there today.

00:11:20.040 Sheila, how are you doing?

00:11:21.720 Hey, Ezra.

00:11:22.440 I'm great.

00:11:22.900 This is one of the weirdest bail hearings,

00:11:24.820 or I guess bail appeals, that I've ever had to tune into.

00:11:27.760 And I've done a lot of WebEx court lately,

00:11:31.080 and things were very strange.

00:11:33.020 It was very busy, very loud on the call,

00:11:36.580 because there were over, at one point,

00:11:39.560 400 regular citizens who were tuning into the call,

00:11:43.540 because there's so much public interest

00:11:46.760 in what's happening to Pastor James Coates.

00:11:49.460 However, you wouldn't really know that

00:11:51.540 if you got all your news from the mainstream media,

00:11:53.520 because they stopped caring about Pastor Coates

00:11:56.920 once their, I suppose, their bloodlust

00:11:59.060 for seeing Christians taken away in handcuffs

00:12:01.820 was sort of satiated after Pastor Coates was arrested.

00:12:06.780 And they didn't then, the RCMP,

00:12:09.660 they didn't then subsequently arrest

00:12:12.200 the replacement pastor, Jacob Spence,

00:12:14.900 in the following weeks since,

00:12:16.660 the two following weeks since he started holding services

00:12:19.920 at Grace Life.

00:12:20.760 When no more arrests were made,

00:12:22.440 the mainstream media stopped paying attention.

00:12:24.960 When this is getting more outrageous than ever,

00:12:27.900 that this pastor has ticked over two weeks

00:12:31.560 in a maximum security prison

00:12:33.420 for the crime of holding services to his flock,

00:12:38.700 which is his constitutionally protected right.

00:12:41.020 Yeah, and I know that not a single outbreak

00:12:43.160 has been traced to this church

00:12:45.160 for those who would try and pick nits.

00:12:49.540 I used to be a practicing lawyer,

00:12:51.760 I haven't practiced in over a decade,

00:12:53.660 but I remember from law school

00:12:55.520 and my brief experience in the courts

00:12:58.240 that when someone has a bail hearing,

00:13:02.700 when they're arrested and brought to a judge,

00:13:05.100 the default is that they be set free until a hearing,

00:13:10.120 but that bail can be denied for one of two reasons.

00:13:13.640 One is a flight risk,

00:13:16.440 as in will someone run away from the jurisdiction

00:13:19.240 and not be found?

00:13:20.920 Clearly that doesn't apply to Pastor Coates.

00:13:23.680 He has a family.

00:13:25.360 He has a church.

00:13:26.620 He has shown no interest in fleeing.

00:13:29.080 His roots are in the community.

00:13:30.480 There's no chance he's a flight risk.

00:13:33.260 The second is, is he violent?

00:13:35.620 That's why when someone who is a killer

00:13:39.300 or an accused killer is arrested,

00:13:41.940 they don't let him out,

00:13:42.900 even if he's not a flight risk,

00:13:44.300 because they're worried he'll commit violence.

00:13:45.960 Although I must tell you,

00:13:47.400 there are some violent offenders

00:13:49.680 and even accused terrorists

00:13:51.540 who are still granted bail.

00:13:53.520 I don't know why, therefore,

00:13:56.380 he remains in jail without bail,

00:13:59.200 because he is not a flight risk.

00:14:00.900 He is not a danger.

00:14:02.080 This is actually the dictionary definition

00:14:06.020 of a political prisoner.

00:14:10.480 Well, I can tell you the Crown's arguments

00:14:13.420 for why they are not lifting those bail conditions,

00:14:18.500 because it really does come down

00:14:19.760 to the discretion of the Crown.

00:14:21.180 They could remove these bail conditions at any time,

00:14:23.700 and that's the thing.

00:14:24.780 Pastor Coates has been granted bail

00:14:27.040 if he agrees to the bail conditions,

00:14:29.700 but the bail conditions are the reason

00:14:31.080 he's there in the first place,

00:14:32.180 and that's because he is not going to turn away

00:14:35.260 85% of his congregants

00:14:38.120 to meet some government target.

00:14:40.680 Now, very interesting stuff today

00:14:42.860 in a routine bail hearing.

00:14:44.580 The Crown prosecutor is not being identified

00:14:48.180 because she says that she is receiving threats

00:14:53.380 from peaceful Christians.

00:14:55.280 So we have a secret prosecution,

00:14:57.120 is what you're saying.

00:14:59.040 Bingo.

00:14:59.700 So this Crown prosecutor is withholding her identity.

00:15:03.580 The judge is fine with it

00:15:06.100 because the whole idea of having an open court system

00:15:10.160 where you can see the judge,

00:15:11.700 you can see the Crown,

00:15:13.080 and you can see the defense,

00:15:14.300 and you can see the accused,

00:15:15.800 is so that you have confidence

00:15:18.640 that there are no such things

00:15:20.500 as secret trials in a free and liberal democracy.

00:15:23.080 Yet, they withheld her identity today.

00:15:25.900 I've never heard of that before, by the way.

00:15:27.500 I mean, you have mafia gangs.

00:15:29.780 You have Hell's Angel gangs prosecuted.

00:15:32.280 I have never before heard of a prosecutor being hidden.

00:15:36.220 And I have to tell you,

00:15:38.540 I'm not saying it didn't happen.

00:15:40.460 I have no knowledge of this

00:15:41.580 other than what you've just told me.

00:15:42.760 But if it's true,

00:15:46.000 did she report it to the police?

00:15:47.860 Have they given her security?

00:15:49.680 Because that's what you do.

00:15:50.920 I wonder if she even reported it to police

00:15:53.460 or if this is some drama queen activity on her part

00:15:57.100 to try and flip the moral emphasis

00:16:02.320 of instead of, oh, poor pastor, two weeks in prison,

00:16:06.820 poor me, government bully.

00:16:08.640 I'm the real victim here, Your Honor.

00:16:10.820 I'm the victim because my political persecution

00:16:14.500 of this pastor has been condemned by the public.

00:16:18.100 She's trying to flip the morality again. 0.99

00:16:20.520 You know, putting a pastor into prison

00:16:23.780 sounds like upside down justice.

00:16:26.240 And having a prosecutor say,

00:16:28.080 I'm a victim is upside down justice.

00:16:30.200 I can't believe this is happening in Alberta.

00:16:33.320 It's crazy.

00:16:34.580 And again, you make a great point.

00:16:36.000 I mean, there are prosecutors

00:16:37.120 who are prosecuting organized crime,

00:16:40.600 Hell's Angels, the mafia,

00:16:42.580 and their identities aren't hidden.

00:16:44.800 So why is her identity being hidden?

00:16:47.260 And surely she has access to sheriffs and bailiffs

00:16:50.760 and all kinds of security.

00:16:53.580 And if it is indeed happening to her

00:16:54.980 that she is being threatened,

00:16:56.820 I mean, that's outrageous.

00:16:57.940 But there are remedies for that

00:17:00.220 that don't require secret bail hearing

00:17:03.280 crown prosecutors.

00:17:05.160 Now, she also argues

00:17:07.500 that there is a substantial likelihood

00:17:10.000 of endangerment to the public

00:17:12.460 if Pastor Coates is released

00:17:14.740 because he will continue to hold

00:17:16.440 the maximum capacity services

00:17:18.560 instead of meeting that 15% target.

00:17:21.700 Now, on the flip side,

00:17:23.540 James Kitchen from the Justice Center

00:17:24.980 for Constitutional Freedom,

00:17:26.100 so Pastor Coates' lawyer,

00:17:27.860 he's saying they've held capacity services

00:17:30.880 since July.

00:17:33.620 So there's historical evidence

00:17:35.320 that there is not a problem

00:17:37.500 with COVID at this church.

00:17:38.940 And if you needed to prove

00:17:40.300 that he wasn't an endangerment,

00:17:42.040 well, we've got six months

00:17:43.620 of the height of the pandemic

00:17:45.240 to demonstrate that it is not a problem.

00:17:48.500 And the crown prosecutor,

00:17:50.500 the secret crown prosecutor, by the way,

00:17:52.620 she said that if they don't

00:17:53.960 make Pastor Coates abide by these conditions

00:17:59.300 that violate his religious freedom,

00:18:01.500 that it will undermine the justice system

00:18:05.800 to release him without conditions.

00:18:07.240 And James Kitchen argues on the flip side again

00:18:10.260 that for normal people,

00:18:11.580 the imprisonment of a Christian pastor

00:18:13.320 on a matter of conscience

00:18:15.140 is truly what is drawing the justice system

00:18:17.860 into disrepute.

00:18:18.720 It's actually something Kitchen called

00:18:20.440 in his argument

00:18:21.520 an embarrassment to the court.

00:18:24.040 So that's what happened today.

00:18:25.540 The judge is going to withhold his decision

00:18:28.000 until 9 a.m.

00:18:29.380 I've been in communication with the church.

00:18:31.340 They're not sure if they're going to be

00:18:32.480 down here rallying again,

00:18:34.220 but either way,

00:18:34.860 we're going to be all over this covering it.

00:18:36.340 Well, Sheila, there's one more point,

00:18:38.140 and I don't know if James Kitchen,

00:18:40.140 the lawyer for the church, mentioned it,

00:18:42.020 or maybe it's obvious.

00:18:44.480 Keeping Pastor Coates in jail 0.78

00:18:46.840 so that the church will not be at full capacity

00:18:51.320 doesn't make sense as an argument

00:18:54.240 because the church is at full capacity

00:18:57.360 even though he's in jail.

00:18:59.860 So it's not like,

00:19:00.940 oh, Your Honor,

00:19:01.640 we got to keep this political prisoner in jail

00:19:04.120 because if he gets out,

00:19:05.980 the church will be full.

00:19:07.140 No, the church is full now.

00:19:08.580 You've been there the last few weeks.

00:19:10.920 They're staring down the government,

00:19:14.400 and the government is the one blinking.

00:19:16.140 That church is packed,

00:19:17.560 and if they arrest the next pastor,

00:19:19.820 someone else will take his place,

00:19:21.080 and it'll be packed,

00:19:22.220 and they arrest him.

00:19:23.280 They'll have to arrest every single one.

00:19:24.740 They'll have to start building new prisons, 0.89

00:19:26.240 but the actual,

00:19:28.200 put aside morality,

00:19:29.860 put aside public health,

00:19:32.660 just from its own logic,

00:19:34.180 saying, Your Honor,

00:19:35.480 if he's let out,

00:19:37.800 then the church will be full,

00:19:40.040 fails.

00:19:41.220 Because the church is full now.

00:19:44.240 There is no correlation

00:19:45.880 between him being a political prisoner

00:19:48.420 and the church being full or empty.

00:19:50.060 It will be full no matter what.

00:19:52.100 Well, I'm disgusted with this whole concept

00:19:55.020 of a secret prosecution.

00:19:56.740 Frankly, that sounds unconstitutional to me,

00:19:59.120 and it also sounds like political games,

00:20:01.480 and it also sounds like a bit of BS

00:20:03.300 because I simply don't believe

00:20:04.860 that the most pacifist,

00:20:06.380 peaceful people in the province,

00:20:08.260 namely that Grace Life Church,

00:20:10.080 are more scary than,

00:20:12.080 as you mentioned,

00:20:12.860 Hells Angels,

00:20:13.920 terrorist groups,

00:20:15.080 gun gangs,

00:20:15.860 drug gangs

00:20:16.500 that are prosecuted all the time.

00:20:18.360 I think it's frankly

00:20:19.360 a deep embarrassment,

00:20:20.620 not just that Pastor James is in jail,

00:20:23.040 but that the government of Alberta,

00:20:25.060 including Jason Kenney,

00:20:27.060 who I think is a good premier,

00:20:28.740 and Casey Madhu,

00:20:29.620 who I think is a good justice minister,

00:20:31.480 but how long can I say that

00:20:32.940 if this prosecutor

00:20:34.300 tries the tricks that she's doing?

00:20:36.560 After a certain point in time,

00:20:37.880 you say,

00:20:38.160 Where does the buck stop?

00:20:39.540 And you're sending a secret prosecutor

00:20:41.340 to cry victim

00:20:42.620 and to make illogical arguments

00:20:44.700 like we've got to keep

00:20:45.440 a Christian man in prison

00:20:46.480 lest the church be full.

00:20:47.820 The church is full.

00:20:48.940 This is a deeply embarrassing moment

00:20:51.260 for the province of Alberta

00:20:52.400 and let the world know.

00:20:54.060 The fact you say

00:20:54.840 that hundreds of people

00:20:56.260 watch this via Zoom

00:20:58.240 tells me

00:20:59.340 that just because

00:21:00.860 the media party

00:21:01.820 and the political establishment 0.93

00:21:03.560 hate Christians 1.00

00:21:04.820 and love the lockdown, 1.00

00:21:06.240 the rest of the world

00:21:07.240 does not agree.

00:21:08.480 And I hope that this 0.90

00:21:09.800 burns down

00:21:12.140 the popularity

00:21:13.580 of whatever politician

00:21:15.460 stands with it.

00:21:16.500 And so I would say

00:21:17.280 to all my friends

00:21:18.240 in the Alberta government,

00:21:19.820 and I have plenty of them,

00:21:21.480 I would say

00:21:22.280 own it

00:21:22.880 or disown it.

00:21:24.560 And by the way,

00:21:25.620 you own it

00:21:26.720 until you disown it.

00:21:29.320 This could absolutely

00:21:30.780 stop

00:21:31.360 this afternoon.

00:21:32.920 If

00:21:33.440 that

00:21:34.280 Crown prosecutor

00:21:35.280 was told

00:21:36.140 drop these conditions,

00:21:37.980 this is outrageous,

00:21:39.160 you are opposing

00:21:40.040 the release of this man

00:21:41.260 more ferociously

00:21:43.180 than the Crown

00:21:43.900 normally opposes

00:21:44.760 the release of sex offenders

00:21:46.040 and child violators.

00:21:48.080 That's what they're doing here.

00:21:49.300 I mean,

00:21:49.700 what Pastor Coates

00:21:50.680 is behind bars for

00:21:51.940 is telling the truth.

00:21:53.780 Because all day,

00:21:55.520 sex offenders, 1.00

00:21:56.580 recidivist criminals

00:21:57.580 stand up in these

00:21:58.380 law courts,

00:21:58.960 look a judge in the face,

00:22:00.440 lie,

00:22:01.140 the judge knows

00:22:01.960 they're lying,

00:22:02.640 the Crown knows

00:22:03.340 they're lying,

00:22:03.860 and they say,

00:22:04.360 oh, let me out,

00:22:05.560 I'm not going to

00:22:06.280 commit another crime.

00:22:07.420 And what's the worst thing

00:22:08.800 that those guys do?

00:22:10.620 Repeat the horrible crimes

00:22:12.160 that got them put in jail

00:22:13.060 in the first place.

00:22:14.140 What's the worst thing

00:22:15.500 that Pastor Coates

00:22:16.520 is going to do?

00:22:17.760 Say service on Sunday.

00:22:19.260 That's it.

00:22:19.960 That's it.

00:22:20.800 That's the worst

00:22:21.440 he's going to do.

00:22:22.080 I see your point.

00:22:22.980 Because he wouldn't

00:22:24.160 lie to the judge.

00:22:25.400 Yeah, the judge says,

00:22:26.260 just tell me you're not

00:22:27.040 going to go back to church

00:22:28.220 and I'll let you go.

00:22:29.660 He says,

00:22:30.060 sir, I can't lie.

00:22:31.320 I know everyone else

00:22:32.340 in this whole justice system

00:22:33.380 lies to you,

00:22:34.180 but I just can't.

00:22:36.060 So I got to tell you,

00:22:37.080 I will go back to charge.

00:22:38.180 Oh my God,

00:22:39.060 we've got a criminal.

00:22:40.720 Keep him in prison. 0.91

00:22:42.100 Mr. Rapist,

00:22:43.020 what do you have to say?

00:22:43.700 You're on there.

00:22:44.500 I swear I won't do it.

00:22:46.980 You know what?

00:22:47.860 This is bringing

00:22:49.960 the justice system

00:22:51.380 into disrepute.

00:22:53.200 And by the way,

00:22:55.320 this secret prosecutor business

00:22:57.640 cannot stand.

00:22:59.620 And I don't know

00:23:01.000 who approved that,

00:23:02.900 but it must become undone.

00:23:05.360 And that is a subject

00:23:06.680 for an investigative journalist

00:23:08.680 to work on

00:23:09.560 because we do not,

00:23:11.000 and who,

00:23:12.380 who,

00:23:12.680 is it a lie?

00:23:13.760 Is it a fake?

00:23:14.500 Is it a drama queen moment?

00:23:16.020 Did she report it to security?

00:23:18.460 You know,

00:23:19.000 you're at a courthouse.

00:23:20.160 There's plenty of cops around

00:23:21.500 if you're feeling scared.

00:23:22.720 Was the threat by phone or email?

00:23:24.640 Or was it in person?

00:23:26.060 You know,

00:23:26.380 you can track phone and email

00:23:28.000 and in person

00:23:28.740 pretty easily these days.

00:23:30.560 So I am skeptical.

00:23:32.040 I think it's a lie

00:23:33.460 by a government

00:23:34.480 that doesn't know what to do 0.99

00:23:35.820 because they are face-to-face

00:23:37.920 with their moral superior

00:23:39.660 and they just can't make

00:23:41.780 the pastor blink.

00:23:43.060 This is outrageous

00:23:44.040 and I will dedicate myself

00:23:45.800 and I know you will too,

00:23:46.960 Sheila, 0.98

00:23:47.720 to burning down,

00:23:49.060 metaphorically speaking,

00:23:50.420 sorry,

00:23:50.760 don't call the fire department

00:23:52.160 secret prosecutor,

00:23:53.740 to burning down 1.00

00:23:54.620 their edifice of lies 1.00

00:23:55.860 by which they are

00:23:57.040 imprisoning this pastor

00:23:58.840 with a more brutal imprisonment

00:24:02.600 than serious violent criminals get.

00:24:05.000 I think I've told you this before.

00:24:06.540 My very first day

00:24:07.700 I was ever in court

00:24:08.680 as a baby lawyer

00:24:09.680 when I was in law school,

00:24:11.140 when I went to docket court,

00:24:12.520 I saw a man convicted

00:24:13.860 of sexual assault

00:24:15.280 against a child

00:24:16.160 and I saw him get

00:24:17.260 a sentence of 30 days

00:24:18.540 which meant under parole

00:24:20.120 he would be out

00:24:21.120 in maybe 10 days.

00:24:22.560 This pastor has served

00:24:23.860 more hard time

00:24:24.960 than that convicted

00:24:26.300 sex offender

00:24:27.580 that I saw

00:24:28.240 when I was in law school

00:24:29.400 in my first visit

00:24:30.420 to criminal court

00:24:31.220 and that is what's

00:24:33.700 bringing this court

00:24:34.500 and this justice system

00:24:35.940 in a disrepute.

00:24:36.660 Last word to you, Sheila.

00:24:38.420 You know, Ezra,

00:24:39.060 that's a really excellent point

00:24:40.260 that I think is being missed

00:24:41.320 in all of this.

00:24:42.780 What the pastor

00:24:43.700 is in jail for

00:24:45.020 is not a jailable offense.

00:24:47.400 If he is found guilty

00:24:49.040 in May,

00:24:50.520 two months from now,

00:24:51.960 of violating

00:24:53.140 the public health order

00:24:54.160 that saw him arrested

00:24:55.320 the first time around,

00:24:56.560 it is not a jailable offense.

00:24:58.800 So why is it

00:24:59.840 a jailable offense before?

00:25:01.660 This is absolutely

00:25:02.700 without precedent.

00:25:03.900 They're holding him

00:25:04.920 behind bars

00:25:05.780 for something

00:25:06.520 that if he were found

00:25:07.520 guilty of it,

00:25:08.460 they could not hold him

00:25:09.380 behind bars.

00:25:10.200 What a great point.

00:25:10.920 You know what?

00:25:11.660 This is the kind of thing

00:25:12.700 that when it happens

00:25:13.400 in China or Iran

00:25:15.060 or Russia

00:25:16.020 or Venezuela,

00:25:17.660 you and I

00:25:18.440 and frankly,

00:25:19.940 Jason Kenney

00:25:20.540 and Casey Maddu

00:25:21.400 would rail about

00:25:22.600 and yet it is happening

00:25:23.980 in the capital city

00:25:25.020 of a province

00:25:26.060 whose motto is

00:25:27.140 strong and free.

00:25:28.740 I think that's becoming

00:25:29.800 false advertising.

00:25:30.740 You stay on this story,

00:25:31.840 Sheila,

00:25:32.100 and we will too out here.

00:25:33.300 All right.

00:25:33.640 Great to talk to you.

00:25:34.300 Thanks for being there today.

00:25:36.080 Thanks, Ezra.

00:25:36.760 All right.

00:25:37.140 There you have it.

00:25:38.080 If you want to join

00:25:39.000 our petition,

00:25:39.760 go to freepastorjames.com.

00:25:43.440 I can assure you

00:25:44.560 that we will be back

00:25:45.680 at the church this weekend

00:25:46.940 to document any more activity

00:25:49.140 by the government.

00:25:51.200 Stay with us,

00:25:51.920 Maureen.

00:26:03.680 Hey, welcome back.

00:26:05.020 Boy, there's a lot going on.

00:26:06.400 I'm so glad Sheila was there

00:26:07.780 at that hearing today,

00:26:09.520 that bail hearing in Edmonton.

00:26:11.140 There's two reasons

00:26:11.860 someone doesn't get bail.

00:26:13.440 They're a danger,

00:26:14.900 like they're violent, 1.00

00:26:15.640 they're a murderer, 1.00

00:26:16.300 a rapist, whatever, 1.00

00:26:16.940 who might commit

00:26:17.680 that crime again,

00:26:18.360 or a flight risk.

00:26:20.120 Pastor Coates is

00:26:20.680 neither of those things

00:26:21.720 and yet he sits in jail

00:26:23.300 longer than actually

00:26:24.600 convicted violent people do.

00:26:26.380 The fact that it's

00:26:26.920 a secret trial

00:26:27.580 is super gross in my mind.

00:26:29.640 But speaking of gross,

00:26:30.820 what do you think

00:26:31.100 of Aaron O'Toole

00:26:31.740 literally hiring

00:26:33.080 the former vice president

00:26:34.680 of Huawei Canada

00:26:35.580 as his own VP?

00:26:38.780 I mean,

00:26:39.340 I'm not saying

00:26:39.900 that it should be a crime

00:26:41.040 to work for Huawei Canada.

00:26:42.340 I'm not saying that.

00:26:43.840 But it sure shows

00:26:44.620 bad judgment

00:26:45.340 and frankly,

00:26:46.580 a lack of loyalty

00:26:47.600 to Canadian interests.

00:26:49.420 Huawei is an arm

00:26:50.540 of the Chinese Communist Party.

00:26:52.840 It's controlled by them

00:26:54.240 and it's a security asset

00:26:55.500 of the Chinese state.

00:26:57.840 I mean,

00:26:58.320 if you really want

00:26:59.220 to work for Huawei,

00:27:00.480 I'm not going to say

00:27:01.300 go to jail.

00:27:02.780 But what's Aaron O'Toole

00:27:04.020 doing saying,

00:27:04.780 yeah,

00:27:04.960 that's the guy for me?

00:27:06.540 I can't believe it.

00:27:08.500 I can't believe it.

00:27:10.020 If you want to sign

00:27:10.580 our petition,

00:27:11.120 go to banhuawei.com.

00:27:12.400 All right,

00:27:12.580 that's our show for today.

00:27:13.960 Until tomorrow,

00:27:14.700 on behalf of all of us
