Rebel News Podcast - EZRA LEVANT ｜ J.D. Vance and the antisemitic 'Nick Fuentes Wing'

00:00:00.140 Hello, my friends. Big show today. We're going to talk with Lorne Gunter about the possibility of a general strike in Alberta.

00:00:05.840 But first, I had a bit of a back and forth with J.D. Vance today. He is not pleased with me.

00:00:11.180 I'll tell you what I wrote about him and my thoughts with his reply.

00:00:15.040 Also, should Republicans and conservatives accept anti-Semitism in the name of uniting with the far right?

00:00:23.360 I'll take that on, but really I wanted to get you to get the video version of the show.

00:00:28.140 I'm going to show you about 15 video clips about a guy named Nick Fuentes and, of course, of Tucker Carlson.

00:00:34.000 I want to show you 15 clips because I want to make sure you know what I'm talking about when I say anti-Semitism and other crazy ideologies. 0.54

00:00:41.120 I want you to learn who is trying to take over the Republicans.

00:01:01.060 You like the hat? Me too.

00:01:03.200 Same strong message about making Canada great again, but in a really cool color.

00:01:08.580 Black and gold.

00:01:13.540 So if you want to signal your tribe or trigger a liberal, go to mcgahats.ca today.

00:01:22.140 Tonight, is anti-Semitism seeping into the conservative movement?

00:01:26.780 It's Halloween and this is the Ezra LeVant Show.

00:01:29.140 You've got it for freedom!

00:01:32.520 Shame on you, you censorious bug!

00:01:35.700 If you're over 50, you might not know who Nick Fuentes is.

00:01:48.760 And that's because he's not generally in mediums that people over 50 use.

00:01:53.980 He's not on TV.

00:01:54.940 But he's online.

00:01:56.300 He's on fake TV, YouTube TV.

00:01:58.280 He's on online and he's definitely on TikTok.

00:02:01.500 He's everywhere on TikTok and other social media.

00:02:04.840 TikTok, I signed up for it a couple years ago, contrary to advice that it was spyware and malware.

00:02:10.620 I signed up to it for one reason.

00:02:13.360 It is my primary source for anti-American propaganda. 0.65

00:02:18.700 And I'm pro-America, as you may have detected, but I want to know what America's enemies have to say.

00:02:25.220 And by setting up an account on TikTok, and I don't behave any differently on TikTok than I do on Twitter or other social media,

00:02:32.820 the algorithm over the last few years now might change when the company is sold to Americans at the end of the year.

00:02:38.020 But I had never seen the Russian side of the story, the Iranian side of the story, the Chinese side of the story,

00:02:45.880 or the Hamas side of the story put forward like a Niagara Falls.

00:02:52.080 Like it was a huge torrent.

00:02:53.960 You would get the odd scrap on Twitter.

00:02:56.320 But I actually joined TikTok because I wanted to hear what the bad guys were saying.

00:03:01.340 And you get overwhelmed.

00:03:02.840 It's so different.

00:03:04.840 You can tell.

00:03:06.100 I mean, listen, there's comedy in there.

00:03:07.600 There's movie clips.

00:03:08.720 There's dancing.

00:03:09.840 There's karaoke.

00:03:10.560 There's fun stuff, too, for sure.

00:03:12.880 But the algorithm is so different.

00:03:15.600 That's where you learn about Nick Fuentes.

00:03:18.100 And Nick Fuentes, if I have to sum it up, I'd say he's a 20-something neo-Nazi.

00:03:25.060 Although that doesn't quite work because he's also for Stalin, the arch-communist.

00:03:29.720 And that doesn't quite work either because he's for the Democrats and he's against Trump.

00:03:34.400 It's confusing. 0.98

00:03:35.140 I think the best way to look at him is a troll who will basically blame the Jews and the blacks for anything. 0.98

00:03:42.920 But he just sort of bounces around with whatever outrageous thing he says next. 0.97

00:03:47.120 I want to show you some examples.

00:03:48.280 Here's Nick Fuentes.

00:03:50.100 And if you have a child or a grandchild on TikTok, I guarantee that they have been bombarded with this guy. 0.99

00:03:55.920 Here he is just randomly talking about how he wants to rape women. 0.98

00:03:59.840 I'm not surprised why women don't support me. 1.00

00:04:03.440 Women are irrational and sensitive. 1.00

00:04:05.620 It's just like my whole life. 0.98

00:04:07.100 My whole life. 0.91

00:04:09.240 Because I was always like the class clown. 0.90

00:04:11.160 I was always like bullying women. 1.00

00:04:13.000 And women have always been like simultaneously charmed, but also like, oh, stop it. 1.00

00:04:23.380 Oh, oh, you're so annoying.

00:04:25.680 You know what I mean?

00:04:26.400 That kind of thing.

00:04:27.220 That's how women are with like a, with this, with like my personality type. 1.00

00:04:34.560 You're like a rascal. 1.00

00:04:35.860 You know, you're like a, you're like a bastard. 1.00

00:04:38.140 And they're kind of like, cause I'm like a rule breaker and stuff. 1.00

00:04:45.960 And so women simultaneously are intrigued by that, but they're also, they also have to pretend like they're not. 1.00

00:04:51.580 Cause women, it's sort of like how women, a lot of women want to be raped. 1.00

00:04:57.740 And when I say raped, I mean like, that sounds bad when I say it like that. 1.00

00:05:02.340 But there's like a lot of women that really want a guy to beat the shit out of them. 1.00

00:05:09.140 But also they have to pretend, but part of it is they have to pretend like they don't. 0.98

00:05:13.680 That's not so ideological, but it shows you who he is.

00:05:15.880 Here he is saying that Hitler is really cool. 0.99

00:05:21.040 Hitler was a pedophile and kind of a pagan. 0.97

00:05:24.960 It's like, well, he was also really cool. 0.99

00:05:28.720 So, you know, time to grow up.

00:05:31.600 We're not, we're not children anymore.

00:05:33.680 Am I right?

00:05:34.620 Am I right?

00:05:35.620 Am I right, boys?

00:05:37.220 Am I right?

00:05:38.100 Let's go.

00:05:39.520 He was also really cool.

00:05:42.540 And, and any boy knows that anybody who watches these videos where he's rolling down the street and stuff.

00:05:49.340 It's like, this guy's, this guy's awesome.

00:05:52.040 This guy's cool.

00:05:53.700 Here's a longer clip.

00:05:54.960 This is actually the first video I ever saw him do talking about how Auschwitz, the concentration camp, could not have killed more than a million Jews.

00:06:03.280 It just couldn't have, he said.

00:06:04.840 Hitler was a German statesman.

00:06:06.360 And what was there, was there concentration camps?

00:06:12.780 Were there death camps?

00:06:14.280 I think so.

00:06:15.100 I think there were, I think there were death camps.

00:06:16.740 I do.

00:06:17.080 So, but there were also death camps against the Germans.

00:06:21.160 And there were, there were lots of camps.

00:06:22.820 There were camps everywhere.

00:06:23.680 We were in a global war.

00:06:25.160 We had Japanese internment camps.

00:06:26.720 There were lots of camps.

00:06:27.620 There were lots of atrocities going on. 0.73

00:06:29.920 But Hitler was the most uniquely evil guy in the world. 0.89

00:06:33.480 And we get these cartoonish depictions of electric floors and mattresses made out of human hair and lampshades made out of lips.

00:06:41.100 And, and we created this completely like cartoonish, nonsensical narrative.

00:06:46.920 And then that, that's the, that's the standard.

00:06:49.680 That's the myth.

00:06:50.780 That's the narrative that, that defines all of our politics now.

00:06:53.980 Here he is talking about Charlie Kirk's Turning Point USA and how he was going to screw it over.

00:06:59.680 He actually used a different word.

00:07:01.400 Take a look.

00:07:02.080 Whether he chooses to confront me or not, whether he has dignity and honor or not, it's just a matter of time.

00:07:09.100 My ideas are already there.

00:07:10.740 I've already impregnated your organization. 0.97

00:07:13.580 I took Turning Point USA and I f***ed it. 0.98

00:07:18.140 I took your organization. 0.98

00:07:20.280 I took your baby, Turning Point USA, and I f***ed it. 0.99

00:07:26.000 And I've been f***ing it. 0.98

00:07:27.660 And that's why it's filled with groipers. 1.00

00:07:31.240 That's why your whole crew, that's why the people around you, that's why your chapter presidents, that's why your attendees, they're all groipers. 1.00

00:07:40.600 So whether you choose to confront me or not over the honor of your Turning Point USA, it's immaterial to me.

00:07:49.520 I'd like it.

00:07:50.500 I'd, I just get a sick satisfaction out of it.

00:07:53.300 Because I like to win.

00:07:56.220 He hated Charlie Kirk so much, and he would say that his goal was to undermine Charlie Kirk, and sometimes he used unfortunate language like, turn your guns on Charlie Kirk.

00:08:06.600 Here he is, not long before Charlie Kirk was actually assassinated.

00:08:10.440 Let's, let's focus all our firepower on Charlie Kirk.

00:08:13.120 Why are we doing this? 0.99

00:08:14.500 It's because Charlie Kirk is a fake patriot, a fake Christian, and he hates his people. 1.00

00:08:18.600 He's anti-white. 1.00

00:08:19.780 This is our angle.

00:08:20.720 Like I say, Nick Fuentes is not a conservative.

00:08:23.600 I don't even think he's deeply thoughtful and principled.

00:08:26.740 Here he is saying that he's against Trump and for Kamala.

00:08:30.340 In my opinion, if you're a Catholic, you can't vote for Trump.

00:08:35.160 You cannot vote for somebody who is now frequently supporting abortion rights.

00:08:41.140 Frequently.

00:08:42.040 It seems like every week he supports abortion.

00:08:44.620 Catholics should not support Trump.

00:08:46.500 If you are anti-war, you cannot support Trump.

00:08:50.220 Trump is the war, World War III candidate.

00:08:54.220 Trump is talking about wiping Iran off the map.

00:08:57.840 That's where the war is going to go. 0.77

00:08:59.360 Nuclear, not Ukraine. 0.91

00:09:01.060 You can't vote for Trump.

00:09:02.320 If you're an immigration restrictionist, you can't vote for Trump.

00:09:06.100 They're not deporting any illegals.

00:09:09.080 Okay, that's not happening.

00:09:10.500 They admitted as much.

00:09:12.120 And they're going to bring in more legal immigrants than ever before.

00:09:17.600 She's a good candidate. 0.98

00:09:18.840 I'm not going to lie.

00:09:20.220 I know a lot of Republicans don't want to admit it.

00:09:25.560 She's likable.

00:09:27.220 She's good looking.

00:09:28.600 She's likable.

00:09:29.840 Good energy.

00:09:30.740 Now, the thing is, he doesn't have a big backer or a sponsor.

00:09:42.440 He's not polite company.

00:09:43.800 But because he has so many views, this Nick Fuentes, and because he's a good talker, he's glib and he's very articulate in his nonsense, he has attracted a large audience, particularly of people who are rebelling against various things, including censorship, and young men who are rebelling against a society that is anti-young men.

00:10:04.720 And he's sort of the younger, more radical version of Jordan Peterson, who at least has a calm, practical, hopeful purpose in life.

00:10:13.320 So for, I think, mainly the reason that Fuentes is getting views.

00:10:19.500 And I don't know how many of those views are, like I say on TikTok, promoted and pumped up by Russia, China, Iran, Venezuela.

00:10:26.960 So just the other day, Tucker Carlson, who also is a very large online platform, had Nick Fuentes on, and it was an extended love in.

00:10:37.920 I mean, let me just show you a few of the craziest parts.

00:10:40.660 Here's Tucker Carlson hearing from Nick Fuentes that Fuentes loves Stalin so much that he marks Stalin's birthday.

00:10:49.320 So it was like mid-December, mid-late December.

00:10:52.060 It's actually funny.

00:10:52.900 It was December 18th.

00:10:53.820 I remember it because that's an important date to me.

00:10:55.540 And it's Joseph Stalin's birthday.

00:10:59.220 I'm a fan.

00:11:00.580 You're a fan of Stalin's?

00:11:01.800 I was an admirer.

00:11:03.260 But we don't need to go into that, I guess.

00:11:06.420 Well, that's, okay, let's get back.

00:11:08.720 We'll circle back to that.

00:11:10.060 It was weird because the reason I mentioned that, it was almost like, because I woke up that day and I was like, oh, it's December 18th.

00:11:18.320 And I was just like very acutely aware of like, today's like a strange day.

00:11:22.440 This is the day that the attempt happened.

00:11:24.220 And spoiler alert, they never did come back to that little thing.

00:11:28.300 I mean, contrast that to when Ted Cruz last went on Tucker Carlson's show.

00:11:32.760 Oh, my God.

00:11:33.260 I've never seen Tucker Savage, a guest like this before.

00:11:37.260 You saw how gentle Tucker was with someone promoting Stalin.

00:11:41.560 Here's Tucker promoting, attacking Ted Cruz.

00:11:44.420 Take a look.

00:11:44.840 How many people living around, by the way?

00:11:46.740 I don't know the population.

00:11:48.380 At all?

00:11:49.160 No, I don't know the population.

00:11:51.240 You don't know the population of the country you seek to topple?

00:11:53.920 How many people living around?

00:11:56.740 92 million.

00:11:57.460 Okay.

00:11:58.880 Yeah.

00:11:59.300 How could you not know that?

00:12:01.800 I don't sit around memorizing population tables.

00:12:04.580 Well, it's kind of relevant because you're calling for the overthrow of the government.

00:12:08.220 Why is it relevant whether it's 90 million or 80 million or 100 million?

00:12:11.960 Why is that relevant?

00:12:12.720 You don't know anything about the country.

00:12:14.060 I didn't say I don't know anything about them.

00:12:15.200 Okay.

00:12:15.340 What's the ethnic mix of Iran?

00:12:18.240 They are Persians and predominantly Shia.

00:12:21.020 Okay.

00:12:21.500 No, it's not even.

00:12:22.740 You don't know anything about Iran.

00:12:24.560 So actually the country.

00:12:25.500 I am not the Tucker Carlson expert on Iran.

00:12:28.520 You're a senator who's calling for the overthrow of the government.

00:12:31.280 You're the one who claims. 0.65

00:12:32.240 You don't know anything about the country.

00:12:33.340 No, you don't know anything about the country.

00:12:34.880 You're the one who claims they're not trying to murder Donald Trump.

00:12:37.640 No, I'm not saying that.

00:12:38.840 You're the one who can't figure out if it was a good idea to kill General Soleimani.

00:12:41.840 You don't believe they're trying to murder Trump.

00:12:44.180 Yes, I do.

00:12:44.920 Because you're not calling for military strikes against them in retaliation.

00:12:47.800 And if you really believe that.

00:12:48.820 We're carrying out military strikes today.

00:12:50.740 You said Israel was.

00:12:51.760 Right.

00:12:52.080 With our help.

00:12:53.720 I've said we.

00:12:54.440 Israel is leading them, but we're supporting them. 1.00

00:12:56.440 Well, you're breaking news here because the U.S. government last night denied,

00:13:00.180 the National Security Council spokesman Alex Pfeiffer denied on behalf of Trump

00:13:03.760 that we were acting on Israel's behalf in any offensive capacity at all.

00:13:07.240 We're not bombing them.

00:13:08.180 Israel's bombing them.

00:13:09.160 You just said we were.

00:13:10.140 We are supporting Israel.

00:13:12.740 It's just high stakes.

00:13:13.220 You're a senator.

00:13:13.940 If you're saying the United States government is.

00:13:15.720 We're with Iran right now.

00:13:16.960 People are listening.

00:13:18.160 Tucker has gone on from there saying he hates nothing more than a Christian who supports Israel. 0.99

00:13:23.900 He says they're a virus. 1.00

00:13:25.240 They're the worst people in the world. 1.00

00:13:26.320 He despises them. 0.99

00:13:27.480 Here, take a listen.

00:13:28.180 How do you explain Mike Huckabee, Ted Cruz, and there are a lot like that, John Bolton.

00:13:35.940 I mean, I've known them all.

00:13:36.840 George W. Bush, like Karl Rove.

00:13:40.180 I mean, all people I know personally who I've seen be seized by this brain virus,

00:13:45.960 and they're not Jewish.

00:13:47.900 Most of them are self-described Christians.

00:13:49.660 Christians and then the Christian Zionists who are, well, Christian Zionists. 0.90

00:13:56.160 Like, what is that?

00:13:57.220 Right.

00:13:57.440 And I can just say for myself, I dislike them more than anybody.

00:14:04.020 You know, because like, what?

00:14:05.840 Because it's Christian heresy, and I'm offended by that as a Christian. 1.00

00:14:09.120 That's why.

00:14:09.820 So, I don't, like, why not?

00:14:11.300 Like, I'm pissed at the neocons.

00:14:12.900 Very pissed.

00:14:14.020 I've said that a million times.

00:14:15.040 I've been mad since December of 2003 when I went to Iraq.

00:14:19.560 And so, like, I went and hassled, or hassled, asked straightforward questions to Ted Cruz

00:14:24.680 because that seemed like there's a sitting senator who's, like, serving for Israel by his own

00:14:29.280 description.

00:14:29.840 He seemed like a worthy target.

00:14:31.320 I'm not going after MTG, who's, like, the most sincere person.

00:14:36.060 Like, why not go after Ted Cruz?

00:14:37.220 I don't understand.

00:14:37.940 That's really weird.

00:14:39.040 That's contrary to what Tucker Carlson has said in the past when he was on Fox News,

00:14:43.580 or CNN, or other stations before that.

00:14:45.980 And it coincides with him being very friendly to Qatar and having Qatar's prime minister

00:14:51.420 on the show.

00:14:52.220 And here's a bizarre statement he made about Sharia law.

00:14:55.400 I can tell you that Tucker Carlson was against Sharia law at Fox, but he loves Sharia law now 1.00

00:15:01.780 and recommends it.

00:15:03.240 But you should know, Seth, that the real danger is Sharia law. 1.00

00:15:07.480 Sharia law.

00:15:08.120 And you can tell when you go to a place like Abu Dhabi or Riyadh, like, oh, man, I hope

00:15:12.720 we don't ever wind up with a society like this with a rape rate of zero where you leave 1.00

00:15:17.320 your keys in your Lamborghini and don't ever worry about it being stolen.

00:15:21.040 And, you know, if people want to get wasted, they do it at home.

00:15:24.260 You know what I mean?

00:15:25.400 Yeah.

00:15:26.000 Oh, boy.

00:15:26.640 I hope we don't wind up with that.

00:15:27.740 Yeah, I think, I mean, Sharia law is obviously just a punchline. 0.97

00:15:32.420 I don't know that too many people actually believe in the reality of that.

00:15:36.360 And I mean, like I said, you know, I'm a lawyer.

00:15:40.320 I actually studied legal philosophy.

00:15:42.880 Sharia is not that different from other legal codes.

00:15:48.460 A lot of our own legal code, the Anglo-Saxon common law, Anglo-American common law, derives

00:15:55.080 ultimately from religious authorities.

00:15:57.880 He said that Vladimir Putin was the most popular man in the world.

00:16:01.940 He's the most popular leader in the world, by the way, by far.

00:16:04.860 I mean, if you travel.

00:16:05.640 Yeah, I don't think that's true.

00:16:27.580 And I mentioned Qatar lobbying.

00:16:29.120 That's not an accusation.

00:16:30.840 Qatar actually registered under the Foreign Agents Registry,

00:16:34.060 indicating they spent $200,000 to get on Tucker Carlson's show.

00:16:38.480 It's quite something.

00:16:40.200 It's not just detonating allies and conservatives today.

00:16:45.000 Tucker Carlson is trying to revise history.

00:16:47.420 He's actually had historians on who say that Churchill was the evil one in the Second World War,

00:16:53.920 not Hitler.

00:16:55.660 And I'm American.

00:16:56.220 I'm not English, so I don't have any weird motive in asking this.

00:17:00.340 But how would you assess Winston Churchill?

00:17:04.060 I got in trouble with my podcast partner, Jocko Willink, one time,

00:17:07.840 because he's a New England Dutchman who's his family.

00:17:12.100 It's near and dear to their Dutch, but very near and dear to their heart,

00:17:16.100 that Winston Churchill is a hero, right?

00:17:17.800 Well, everyone loves Churchill.

00:17:18.820 Everyone thinks that.

00:17:19.320 He really thinks that.

00:17:20.580 And I told him that I think, and maybe I'm being a little hyperbolic, maybe,

00:17:25.900 but I told him, maybe trying to provoke him a little bit,

00:17:28.480 that I thought Churchill was the chief villain of the Second World War.

00:17:31.300 Now, he didn't kill the most people.

00:17:33.800 He didn't commit the most atrocities.

00:17:36.760 But I believe, and I don't really think,

00:17:39.160 I think when you really get into it and tell the story right and don't leave anything out,

00:17:44.600 you see that he was primarily responsible for that war,

00:17:47.160 becoming what it did, becoming something other than an invasion of Poland.

00:17:50.980 Anyways, this alliance between Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes is astonishing.

00:17:55.880 Tucker is smarter, better educated, more experienced, much older than Nick Fuentes,

00:18:01.320 but they're fast friends.

00:18:02.940 And I think it's because they want to normalize and platform each other.

00:18:07.560 But what's scary to me is that Tucker, at least, if not Fuentes,

00:18:11.360 is part of the larger conservative movement.

00:18:13.840 I mean, you may know, even I was on Tucker's show a few times when he sent a camera crew up to Canada

00:18:19.240 to do a story on Rebel News.

00:18:21.040 Now, that was actually deleted because right before the documentary was about to be aired,

00:18:29.080 Tucker was fired from Fox and the documentary never saw the light of day.

00:18:34.780 But I'm concerned about Tucker and I'm no longer worried.

00:18:37.840 I think all of my worries have been proven true.

00:18:42.640 I think he really is working for the bad guys now.

00:18:46.300 I simply don't believe that Tucker Carlson is conservative anymore,

00:18:49.580 by any definition of that term.

00:18:52.320 If you host people who, and he's a 9-11 truther as well,

00:18:55.560 something he used to be against.

00:18:56.740 He used to say that if you were a 9-11 truther, you were anti-American

00:19:00.700 because you were trying to excuse America's enemies and blame America itself.

00:19:04.660 I don't think that what Tucker stands for, and certainly not Fuentes stands for, is conservatism.

00:19:10.220 Being anti-Semitic is not conservative.

00:19:12.140 Being anti-Zionistic, why would you be against having a homeland for the Jews?

00:19:17.420 Unless you're against Italy for the Italians, France for the French,

00:19:21.160 unless you're against every nationalism.

00:19:23.260 But just to say the one people in the world that don't get a country

00:19:26.240 are Jews in the land of the Bible.

00:19:28.940 Why would you say that?

00:19:30.300 He's anti-Israel.

00:19:31.180 He's anti-Christian. 0.99

00:19:32.420 He hates Christian Zionists. 0.97

00:19:33.780 I think he's anti-American. 0.91

00:19:35.740 He's anti-Trump.

00:19:37.560 And both Fuentes and Tucker Carlson went to bat for Iran,

00:19:43.460 saying that if Donald Trump were to shoot at Iran,

00:19:45.920 it would start World War III, 100,000 deaths in America.

00:19:50.360 In reality, seven B-2 bombers dropped 14 bombs

00:19:55.280 without Iran even knowing they were overhead.

00:19:58.780 There was no war.

00:19:59.520 It was basically a whimpering end to Iran's 12-day war.

00:20:04.420 Tucker platforming Fuentes, though, I think it's a tipping point.

00:20:08.640 And I never really understood what the term woke right meant.

00:20:12.500 But this is what it means.

00:20:13.980 It means does the right, does conservatives,

00:20:17.080 this is mainly an American issue, but it's splashing over in the UK and in Europe and in Canada too.

00:20:22.220 This is what woke right means.

00:20:25.380 Is the conservative movement, is the Republican Party in the United States,

00:20:29.420 is Canada's conservative movement,

00:20:31.440 will it abide our version of the crazies on the left?

00:20:36.440 What I mean is, on the left, the Democrats,

00:20:39.500 and a lot of Democrats are normal people.

00:20:42.320 I mean, they do get almost 50% of the vote.

00:20:45.080 There's a lot of people who are normal there.

00:20:46.820 But the Democrats have succumbed to the most radical elements within them,

00:20:51.460 the Ilhan Omars, the Zoran Mamdani's,

00:20:54.760 the green-haired transgender activists, the Black Lives Matter movement.

00:21:01.360 The Democrats have given the power and the energy in their party to the woke extremists.

00:21:08.360 And I think it's an important reason why Democrats are losing.

00:21:11.840 They're so out of bounds when it comes to normal issues for Americans.

00:21:15.820 Will the Republicans do the same thing?

00:21:18.480 Will they say, we have to accept this, no enemies to the right?

00:21:24.740 But like I say, how are Fuentes and Tucker and their mini-me's,

00:21:28.040 their people like Candace Owens, again, a former Democrat who says she hates Trump,

00:21:34.140 how are they conservatives?

00:21:36.480 Why would non-conservatives who have said they hate Trump,

00:21:40.880 why would they even be in the conservative movement of the Republican Party?

00:21:44.000 Now, I did a bit of a tour last month, you might remember,

00:21:47.780 talking to some people who were getting swept up in this anti-Israel extremism,

00:21:52.380 which I think splashes over into anti-Semitism.

00:21:54.980 I found that, and I'm grateful to the people who debated with me,

00:21:58.660 but I found that in general they were low information,

00:22:01.120 they had shallow knowledge,

00:22:02.620 they had read something on TikTok or Wikipedia,

00:22:05.080 and suddenly became experts in the Middle East and the Jews and Arabia and things like that.

00:22:11.300 And so they would have these mantras,

00:22:12.680 these one-liners that they would keep repeating back to each other.

00:22:16.120 But there was no depth to it, of course not.

00:22:18.580 These people just, you know, this is the right's version of the latest thing.

00:22:22.600 You know, we always criticize the left for being,

00:22:25.540 well, what's the latest thing?

00:22:26.560 Today you care about Ukraine, tomorrow you care about Gaza,

00:22:30.200 you care about Greta Thunberg and Green.

00:22:32.880 Like, we sort of mock the left for just being faddish.

00:22:37.800 This is the latest madness on the right.

00:22:40.740 It's a mania, it's hysteria.

00:22:42.300 Is it for the clicks?

00:22:43.840 Is it for the traffic?

00:22:45.720 Is it for the fake sense of being taboo?

00:22:49.380 And that's the irony.

00:22:50.440 For people who say the Jews control the media,

00:22:52.900 well, the media certainly is just serving up an enormous helping of anti-Semitism from Tucker and Fuentes.

00:23:00.620 Is it the money?

00:23:02.380 I think that's part of it.

00:23:04.460 Is it just the exhilarating feeling of hating someone?

00:23:08.780 It can be exhilarating.

00:23:10.740 It's a different hatred than other groups, though.

00:23:14.280 As I mentioned the other day, Haviv Redigur said,

00:23:17.320 anti-Semitism is a special kind of hatred

00:23:19.660 because the Jews aren't just responsible for this one thing or that one thing. 0.81

00:23:23.760 They are this cosmic barrier to heaven. 1.00

00:23:27.720 If we could just get rid of the Jews, things would be perfect. 1.00

00:23:31.320 You know, I talked to some folks in Ireland. 0.98

00:23:32.680 I generally don't raise Jewish issues when I'm in Ireland.

00:23:35.220 It's not why I'm there.

00:23:36.140 But for some reason, a country with 0.05% Jews,

00:23:42.600 like there's only 2,000 Jews in the whole country of Ireland.

00:23:45.300 It's one half of one-tenth of 1%.

00:23:48.460 And there are some people in Ireland, typically on the left,

00:23:52.980 who are so anti-Jewish.

00:23:55.140 And I'm just thinking to myself,

00:23:58.020 there hasn't been a Jew in the Irish Parliament in more than a decade.

00:24:01.340 There's only been a handful over the course of time.

00:24:04.400 It's not your universal scapegoat.

00:24:06.700 And if you finally do triumph over the Jews, 1.00

00:24:09.140 it's not going to suddenly...

00:24:10.360 Like, there's this belief, I think anti-Semites in many cases 0.58

00:24:14.380 have decided the Jews are such a cosmic, demonic, supernatural force 1.00

00:24:20.780 that to get rid of them would instantly fix every problem 1.00

00:24:24.460 and every problem can be ascribed to them. 0.97

00:24:27.360 Certainly they won't shut up about the Jews. 0.97

00:24:29.340 It's really crazy to me.

00:24:30.480 Anyways, yesterday things came to a head when Heritage Foundation,

00:24:35.340 one of the largest conservative foundations in America,

00:24:37.860 that historically has been very pro-Israel, by the way,

00:24:40.660 very anti-Anti-Semitic.

00:24:42.900 The head of Heritage put out a video, apropos of nothing,

00:24:47.140 I don't know why he felt compelled to do it,

00:24:49.820 standing by Tucker Carlson and saying he always will,

00:24:55.820 no matter what, and those who are against Tucker

00:24:58.160 are venomous and globalists.

00:25:02.020 Here, it's actually not that long.

00:25:03.220 Let me play the whole thing for you.

00:25:05.040 It just came out of the blue.

00:25:06.560 Take a look.

00:25:07.140 I'll have more to say on this in the coming days,

00:25:10.260 but today I want to be clear about one thing.

00:25:13.020 Christians can critique the state of Israel 1.00

00:25:14.960 without being anti-Semitic.

00:25:17.380 And of course, anti-Semitism should be condemned.

00:25:21.220 My loyalty as a Christian and as an American

00:25:23.480 is to Christ first and to America always.

00:25:27.260 When it serves the interest of the United States

00:25:29.160 to cooperate with Israel and other allies,

00:25:31.560 we should do so with partnerships on security,

00:25:34.680 intelligence, and technology.

00:25:36.000 But when it doesn't, conservatives should feel no obligation

00:25:40.080 to reflexively support any foreign government,

00:25:42.960 no matter how loud the pressure becomes from the globalist class

00:25:45.960 or from their mouthpieces in Washington.

00:25:49.140 The Heritage Foundation didn't become the intellectual backbone

00:25:52.380 of the conservative movement by canceling our own people

00:25:55.480 or policing the consciences of Christians.

00:25:57.720 And we won't start doing that now.

00:26:00.840 We don't take direction from comments on X,

00:26:03.880 though we are grateful for the robust free speech debate.

00:26:07.140 We also don't take direction from members or donors,

00:26:10.320 though we are inherently grateful for their support.

00:26:13.320 And we're adding more every day.

00:26:14.620 This is the robust debate we invite with our colleagues,

00:26:19.400 our movement friends, our members,

00:26:21.580 and the American public.

00:26:23.700 We will always defend truth.

00:26:26.180 We will always defend America.

00:26:27.920 And we will always defend our friends

00:26:30.180 against the slander of bad actors

00:26:32.200 who serve someone else's agenda.

00:26:33.960 That includes Tucker Carlson, who remains

00:26:37.880 and, as I have said before,

00:26:39.980 always will be a close friend of the Heritage Foundation.

00:26:43.540 The venomous coalition attacking him are sowing division.

00:26:47.100 Their attempt to cancel him will fail.

00:26:50.140 Most importantly, the American people expect us

00:26:53.200 to be focusing on our political adversaries on the left,

00:26:56.760 not attacking our friends on the right.

00:26:59.240 I disagree with and even abhor things that Nick Fuentes says.

00:27:04.660 But canceling him is not the answer either.

00:27:07.700 When we disagree with a person's thoughts and opinions,

00:27:10.360 we challenge those ideas and debate.

00:27:12.640 And we have seen success in this approach

00:27:14.920 as we continue to dismantle the vile ideas of the left.

00:27:20.380 As my friend Vice President Vance said last night,

00:27:23.760 what I am not okay with is any country

00:27:25.960 coming before the interest of American citizens.

00:27:28.740 And it is important for all of us,

00:27:31.100 assuming we are American citizens,

00:27:32.680 to put the interest of our own country first.

00:27:36.780 That's where our allegiance lies.

00:27:38.900 And that's where it will stay.

00:27:40.040 Now, I like loyalty.

00:27:49.020 I try and show loyalty,

00:27:50.580 and I think it's a very important personal trait.

00:27:53.740 But are you truly loyal to someone,

00:27:56.140 no matter what they think and say?

00:27:57.780 You may know that I was once

00:27:59.000 pretty close friends with Jason Kenney.

00:28:00.860 In fact, I'd say he was one of my best friends.

00:28:02.820 I haven't had a word to say to the guy in three years.

00:28:05.400 And that pains me.

00:28:08.720 But because as Premier of Alberta,

00:28:10.660 I mean, he was one of my best buddies.

00:28:12.380 We would talk frequently.

00:28:14.300 He led a vicious crackdown on the province,

00:28:18.060 including on churches, on the truckers at Coutts.

00:28:21.260 He brought in painful COVID mandates.

00:28:24.720 I was shocked by it.

00:28:26.060 And we had to speak out,

00:28:27.680 and we had to criticize it.

00:28:29.120 And frankly, it's painful to lose a friend.

00:28:31.460 But if you're in the opinion business,

00:28:32.840 and the commentary,

00:28:33.820 and the news business,

00:28:34.720 and the activism business like we are,

00:28:36.120 we just have to speak the truth.

00:28:37.600 Can you truly say

00:28:39.020 we will always stand by Tucker Carlson?

00:28:41.400 Really?

00:28:42.180 Even if he platforms people who are Nazis,

00:28:44.840 and Stalinists,

00:28:45.740 and people who say that Hitler was better than Churchill,

00:28:48.700 will you really,

00:28:49.680 on behalf of the Heritage Foundation,

00:28:52.060 which is millions of donors,

00:28:53.460 and decades of work,

00:28:54.840 will you really always stand by him,

00:28:57.280 no matter what he says,

00:28:58.520 because he's changing wicked fast?

00:29:01.160 Now, the answer is debate and being collegial,

00:29:05.140 says the head of Heritage, 0.99

00:29:07.200 except for those venomous Jews 1.00

00:29:08.860 and Christian Zionists, I guess. 0.98

00:29:10.740 I mean, who was he blaming?

00:29:13.380 Who was he blaming

00:29:14.380 when he said that Tucker was under attack?

00:29:17.100 And why did he feel

00:29:17.980 that he had to stand up for Tucker?

00:29:21.340 I thought it was quite odd.

00:29:23.460 Now, some Heritage Foundation staff

00:29:25.940 and others in the Heritage Orbit,

00:29:28.020 it's a huge organization, Heritage.

00:29:29.940 I haven't looked it up,

00:29:31.240 but it's got to be tens of millions,

00:29:33.020 probably $100 million a year

00:29:34.260 in conservative donors

00:29:35.660 working on everything

00:29:36.500 from justice files

00:29:38.360 to education to foreign affairs.

00:29:40.720 And by the way,

00:29:41.260 they're quite pro-Israel over there.

00:29:43.200 So this came out of the blue.

00:29:44.760 Some Heritage staff

00:29:45.960 started to rebel in a particular way.

00:29:49.000 Here's Preston Brashers,

00:29:51.120 who made this tweet,

00:29:52.640 which I thought was perfect.

00:29:54.140 It showed free speech.

00:29:55.280 That's an iconic painting of free speech,

00:29:57.760 but that were against Nazis.

00:30:00.600 And I'm worried that Preston Brashers

00:30:02.680 is going to be fired.

00:30:04.620 There's got to be a huge battle

00:30:05.660 behind the scenes

00:30:06.400 at Heritage right now,

00:30:07.820 because for such a flagship

00:30:09.820 conservative project,

00:30:11.220 to endorse Tucker's interview

00:30:15.540 with Nick Fuentes is just startling.

00:30:19.720 I mean, is it true

00:30:20.860 no enemies to the right?

00:30:23.240 Is it true that we have to abide

00:30:24.940 outright haters?

00:30:26.380 Put aside the Jewish thing. 1.00

00:30:27.440 I mean, I'm Jewish,

00:30:28.120 and perhaps I'm conflicted.

00:30:29.540 Let's say there was a huge movement

00:30:32.060 on the right that was anti-Black

00:30:34.220 or anti-Asian

00:30:35.780 or anti-Quaker

00:30:38.460 or anti-Mormon or something.

00:30:41.460 Would I have to abide it

00:30:43.660 to be a good conservative?

00:30:45.480 I just don't think I could.

00:30:46.660 I don't think I would.

00:30:48.520 I mean, put aside the morality of it.

00:30:52.080 You're literally giving ammunition

00:30:54.180 to your critics.

00:30:54.940 Just think practically for a minute.

00:30:57.580 Conservatives are always accused

00:30:59.740 of being Nazis and racists.

00:31:02.020 Even I'm Jewish. 0.58

00:31:02.940 I'm accused of being a Nazi

00:31:04.140 all the time by the left.

00:31:06.080 Obviously, it's not true.

00:31:07.220 It's just a trick to put us

00:31:08.660 on the back foot and be defensive. 0.97

00:31:11.300 Imagine accepting crazy Nazis 0.99

00:31:14.800 and Nazi enablers. 0.99

00:31:17.860 You're handing ammunition

00:31:19.880 to the liberals,

00:31:21.340 to the Democrats,

00:31:22.120 to the left.

00:31:23.180 All those things we always told you

00:31:25.220 about conservatives,

00:31:26.380 well, they're true. 1.00

00:31:27.480 They accept these crazy Nazis. 0.96

00:31:29.740 I don't know why the boss of heritage 0.99

00:31:32.480 is going this way.

00:31:33.480 I can understand why

00:31:35.120 a youth movement,

00:31:36.900 Turning Point USA,

00:31:37.760 very college-oriented,

00:31:39.120 because the kids are following this

00:31:40.620 on TikTok,

00:31:41.220 and they don't have a strong history,

00:31:43.320 or they don't have good moorings.

00:31:45.300 Like, there's no boomers 1.00

00:31:47.860 or Gen Xers supporting this stuff.

00:31:50.480 It's kids.

00:31:51.440 So I don't understand

00:31:52.520 why an organization

00:31:53.980 made up of boomers and seniors,

00:31:56.000 funded by boomers and seniors,

00:31:57.460 would try and get a piece

00:31:58.380 of the Nick Fuentes action.

00:31:59.580 It's really crazy to me.

00:32:02.420 You know, the racism,

00:32:03.580 it's astonishing,

00:32:04.400 and none of it was brought up

00:32:05.420 by Tucker Carlson.

00:32:07.380 Here's Nick Fuentes

00:32:08.560 doing a little rant

00:32:10.620 on J.D. Vance

00:32:11.940 and Gavin Newsom

00:32:13.860 as the potential lineup

00:32:15.800 for the 2028 U.S. presidential race.

00:32:19.340 Take a look at this,

00:32:20.660 comparing the race

00:32:21.820 of the two families.

00:32:25.360 So this is the image

00:32:26.540 of Gavin Newsom.

00:32:29.020 And we'll zoom in on it

00:32:30.480 so you can get a better look.

00:32:31.800 This is Gavin Newsom's family.

00:32:35.300 Okay?

00:32:36.540 Now, this is who

00:32:37.860 the Republicans

00:32:38.760 want you to think

00:32:40.080 is literally the devil.

00:32:42.700 Okay? 0.98

00:32:43.160 This guy is Satan. 1.00

00:32:44.840 This guy is evil. 1.00

00:32:46.300 This guy is woke. 0.99

00:32:48.160 He is a left-wing,

00:32:49.640 socialist, Muslim.

00:32:51.800 He's a radical Muslim socialist

00:32:53.580 like Barack Obama.

00:32:56.380 But, you know,

00:32:57.400 right off the bat,

00:32:58.420 we could just make

00:32:59.060 some observations.

00:33:00.580 You know, he's white.

00:33:02.260 He's tall.

00:33:03.340 He's handsome.

00:33:05.100 His wife is also white.

00:33:07.820 She's tall.

00:33:08.660 She's good-looking.

00:33:09.400 His children,

00:33:10.960 four of them,

00:33:11.940 are beautiful

00:33:14.080 and they're all white

00:33:15.200 with blue eyes

00:33:17.220 and blonde hair.

00:33:18.060 And they're in California.

00:33:20.620 Or maybe this is Hawaii?

00:33:22.780 I don't know.

00:33:25.200 But they're in a beautiful state,

00:33:27.220 our beautiful land.

00:33:29.620 Their beautiful blood

00:33:30.740 and our beautiful land

00:33:31.920 in America.

00:33:32.440 If only there was

00:33:33.200 some way to combine

00:33:34.920 those things.

00:33:36.600 They're beautiful genetics.

00:33:38.180 They're genes.

00:33:39.460 Weren't Republicans 0.55

00:33:40.280 just talking about that?

00:33:41.660 Beautiful genes?

00:33:42.700 Look at these beautiful genes.

00:33:45.200 It's really a sight to behold.

00:33:47.080 This is our enemy,

00:33:48.020 they say.

00:33:50.440 Now, here's the other image.

00:33:51.760 This is our fearless leader.

00:33:54.120 The entity known as J.D. Vance.

00:33:56.700 The entity known as J.D. Hamill

00:34:00.900 since the last operating system update

00:34:05.460 is now J.D. Vance.

00:34:06.680 This is his family.

00:34:07.760 Now, let's make some observations here.

00:34:14.120 So, this is our fearless leader,

00:34:15.760 the entity known as J.D. Vance.

00:34:18.420 He's fat. 0.86

00:34:19.260 Okay, he's visibly, 0.89

00:34:22.980 we'll just zoom in here

00:34:24.520 just so you can get a better look.

00:34:26.840 He's visibly obese 0.98

00:34:28.340 and very ugly. 0.99

00:34:30.720 He's got a fat face, 0.99

00:34:32.680 no jawline, 0.98

00:34:34.460 no chin, 0.99

00:34:35.740 and he's quite ugly. 0.99

00:34:38.040 He had to grow a beard 0.99

00:34:39.140 because his face was so ugly.

00:34:42.040 The Ozempic didn't even help. 0.73

00:34:44.500 Let's make some other observations.

00:34:46.800 His wife and kids are not white.

00:34:49.680 Okay?

00:34:50.840 You know, a lot of people debate

00:34:52.420 whether I'm white.

00:34:54.200 People say,

00:34:55.080 your last name's Fuentes,

00:34:56.180 are you white?

00:34:58.620 Maybe I am,

00:34:59.580 maybe I'm not.

00:35:00.760 I know this is definitely not white.

00:35:03.080 Okay?

00:35:04.000 Brown skin,

00:35:04.860 black hair,

00:35:07.040 a Hindic phenotype.

00:35:10.420 This is an Indian woman, 0.99

00:35:12.120 as a matter of fact.

00:35:12.960 She is from the subcontinent of India.

00:35:15.060 Her parents are Indian.

00:35:16.440 They're actually from India.

00:35:17.780 She's first generation. 0.99

00:35:19.260 Yeah, like I say,

00:35:20.640 Nick Fuentes is no conservative,

00:35:22.680 he's no Republican, 0.99

00:35:23.920 and he hates Jews a lot, 0.99

00:35:25.700 but he hates others too. 0.84

00:35:26.840 Now, that video was on my mind

00:35:28.600 because I saw that.

00:35:29.920 It was on my mind

00:35:30.840 when I saw this question and answer

00:35:32.780 put to J.D. Vance

00:35:34.220 at a Turning Point USA event.

00:35:36.920 Just take a look.

00:35:37.680 We won't play the whole thing,

00:35:38.540 but here's,

00:35:39.480 actually,

00:35:39.880 I think we will play the whole thing.

00:35:40.860 Here, take a look.

00:35:41.320 And yes,

00:35:42.200 my wife did not grow up Christian.

00:35:43.740 I think it's fair to say

00:35:44.620 that she grew up

00:35:45.320 in a Hindu family,

00:35:47.080 but not a particularly religious family

00:35:48.900 in either direction.

00:35:50.040 In fact,

00:35:50.440 when I met my wife,

00:35:51.480 we were both,

00:35:52.100 I would consider myself

00:35:52.980 an agnostic or an atheist,

00:35:54.440 and that's what I think

00:35:55.340 she would have considered

00:35:56.020 herself as well.

00:35:57.520 You know,

00:35:57.840 everybody has to come

00:35:58.980 to their own arrangement here.

00:36:00.200 The way that we've come

00:36:01.060 to our arrangement is,

00:36:02.320 she's my best friend,

00:36:03.200 we talk to each other

00:36:04.060 about this stuff.

00:36:05.100 So we decided

00:36:06.480 to raise our kids Christian.

00:36:08.020 Our two oldest kids

00:36:09.160 who go to school,

00:36:09.900 they go to a Christian school.

00:36:11.460 Our eight-year-old

00:36:12.460 did his first communion

00:36:13.760 about a year ago.

00:36:14.960 That's the way

00:36:15.680 that we have come

00:36:16.400 to our arrangement.

00:36:18.140 But,

00:36:18.800 thank you.

00:36:22.960 My eight-year-old

00:36:23.800 was also very proud

00:36:24.660 of his first communion.

00:36:25.440 Thank you, guys.

00:36:26.020 I'll tell them

00:36:26.460 that Ole Miss wishes them the best.

00:36:28.700 But I think everybody

00:36:29.860 has to have this own conversation

00:36:32.180 when you're in a marriage.

00:36:33.200 I mean,

00:36:33.340 it's true for friends,

00:36:34.800 of mine,

00:36:35.480 who are in Protestant

00:36:36.520 and Catholic marriages,

00:36:38.020 friends of mine

00:36:38.540 who are in, you know,

00:36:39.560 atheists and Christian marriages.

00:36:41.540 You just gotta talk to your,

00:36:42.780 the only advice I can give

00:36:43.880 is you just gotta talk

00:36:44.760 to the person

00:36:45.400 that God has put you with

00:36:47.080 and you've gotta make

00:36:48.180 those decisions

00:36:49.100 as a family unit.

00:36:50.280 For us,

00:36:50.620 it works out.

00:36:51.500 Now,

00:36:51.740 most Sundays,

00:36:52.500 Usha will come with me

00:36:53.380 to church.

00:36:53.980 As I've told her

00:36:55.060 and I've said publicly

00:36:55.980 and I'll say now

00:36:56.680 in front of 10,000

00:36:57.560 of my closest friends,

00:36:59.400 do I hope eventually

00:37:00.600 that she is somehow moved

00:37:02.920 by the same thing

00:37:03.960 that I was moved in

00:37:04.840 by church?

00:37:05.840 Yeah,

00:37:06.180 I honestly,

00:37:06.780 I do wish that

00:37:07.920 because I believe

00:37:09.120 in the Christian gospel

00:37:10.100 and I hope eventually

00:37:11.400 my wife comes to see it

00:37:12.540 the same way.

00:37:13.520 But if she doesn't,

00:37:14.920 then God says

00:37:16.280 everybody has free will

00:37:17.720 and so that doesn't

00:37:18.320 cause a problem for me.

00:37:19.820 That's something

00:37:20.360 you work out

00:37:21.060 with your friends,

00:37:22.140 with your family,

00:37:22.840 with the person

00:37:23.340 that you love.

00:37:24.280 Again,

00:37:25.100 the most,

00:37:25.740 one of the most important

00:37:26.560 Christian principles

00:37:27.340 is that you respect free will.

00:37:29.140 Usha's closer

00:37:29.960 to the priest

00:37:30.780 who baptized me

00:37:31.860 than maybe I am.

00:37:32.960 They talk about this stuff.

00:37:34.540 My attitude is

00:37:35.540 you figure this stuff out

00:37:36.860 as a family

00:37:37.620 and you trust in God

00:37:39.320 to have a plan

00:37:40.100 and you try to follow it

00:37:41.000 as best as you can

00:37:41.980 and that's what I try to do.

00:37:43.160 Now,

00:37:43.440 I tweeted that I thought

00:37:44.580 J.D. Vance

00:37:45.200 was throwing his wife's religion

00:37:46.520 under the bus

00:37:47.680 to appease

00:37:50.300 the Nick Fuentes wing

00:37:51.980 because there was a mass

00:37:53.300 of anti-Semitic

00:37:54.840 and anti-Israel questions

00:37:56.040 that always show up

00:37:57.620 in the Turning Point USA.

00:37:58.540 The Fuentes people 1.00

00:37:59.660 try to invade

00:38:00.540 and I thought that

00:38:01.700 by publicly talking

00:38:03.840 about his wife

00:38:05.320 and how he preferred it

00:38:06.920 if she would

00:38:07.400 become a Christian,

00:38:09.160 I know,

00:38:09.400 I guess I'm just not used

00:38:10.420 to personal family discussions

00:38:12.200 like I want my wife 0.90

00:38:14.200 to become Christian.

00:38:15.840 That seems like

00:38:16.720 a strange thing to me

00:38:17.840 to talk about

00:38:18.600 in public

00:38:19.520 that feels like

00:38:20.180 a conversation

00:38:20.900 maybe you have

00:38:22.040 in private

00:38:22.460 with your wife

00:38:23.040 and I thought airing it,

00:38:24.400 I don't know,

00:38:24.820 I thought it was,

00:38:26.120 I guess maybe

00:38:27.000 I was oversampling

00:38:28.120 the Fuentes BS

00:38:29.500 so I thought it was

00:38:30.340 a way

00:38:30.940 that J.D. Vance

00:38:33.120 was repelling

00:38:34.620 that attack 0.71

00:38:35.400 and to my surprise

00:38:36.360 J.D. Vance replied

00:38:37.220 to me,

00:38:38.360 to my tweet.

00:38:39.060 He said he was disgusted

00:38:40.140 with my comment

00:38:41.180 and thought it smacked

00:38:42.060 of anti-Christian bigotry.

00:38:44.800 And I wrote back

00:38:45.460 to the Vice President

00:38:46.200 saying I accepted

00:38:47.020 his explanation

00:38:47.820 that this was how

00:38:49.380 he does his Christianity,

00:38:51.000 he's always trying

00:38:52.000 to move people over.

00:38:54.040 Okay,

00:38:54.320 I accept that

00:38:55.240 but not his

00:38:56.480 implication

00:38:57.160 that perhaps

00:38:57.660 I'm anti-Christian 1.00

00:38:58.460 but I did ask him

00:38:59.800 a few more questions

00:39:00.780 while we were talking

00:39:02.220 like,

00:39:03.520 does he think

00:39:04.800 Tucker

00:39:05.280 is anti-Christian?

00:39:07.360 You saw Tucker

00:39:08.080 smear

00:39:08.860 conservative Christians

00:39:09.980 and why did he let

00:39:11.600 this question

00:39:12.560 go unchallenged?

00:39:14.180 Here's another question

00:39:14.900 that was put to him.

00:39:15.900 Israel,

00:39:16.780 sometimes they have

00:39:17.720 similar interests

00:39:18.420 to the United States

00:39:19.140 and we're going to

00:39:19.600 work with them

00:39:20.180 in that case.

00:39:21.420 Sometimes they don't

00:39:22.460 have similar interests

00:39:23.240 to the United States

00:39:23.980 and this example,

00:39:25.120 the most recent

00:39:25.860 Gaza peace plan

00:39:27.200 that all of us

00:39:27.920 have been working on

00:39:28.520 very hard for the

00:39:29.240 past few weeks,

00:39:30.380 the President

00:39:30.800 of the United States

00:39:31.700 could only get

00:39:32.780 that peace deal done

00:39:33.940 by actually being

00:39:35.560 willing to apply

00:39:36.500 leverage to the

00:39:38.180 State of Israel.

00:39:39.140 So when people say

00:39:40.360 that Israel

00:39:41.600 is somehow

00:39:42.560 manipulating

00:39:43.600 or controlling

00:39:44.540 the President

00:39:45.180 of the United States,

00:39:46.280 they're not controlling

00:39:47.260 this President

00:39:48.100 of the United States

00:39:48.880 which is one of the

00:39:49.540 reasons why

00:39:50.360 we'd be able to have

00:39:51.520 some of the success

00:39:52.180 that we've had

00:39:52.620 in the Middle East.

00:39:53.200 Now you ask about

00:39:54.400 sort of Jews 0.69

00:39:56.380 disagreeing with

00:39:57.060 Christians on 0.98

00:39:57.640 certain religious ideas.

00:39:58.740 Yeah, absolutely.

00:39:59.920 It's one of the

00:40:00.460 realities is that

00:40:01.520 Jews do not believe 1.00

00:40:02.540 that Jesus Christ

00:40:03.380 is the Messiah.

00:40:04.740 Obviously Christians 0.99

00:40:05.460 do believe that.

00:40:06.240 There are some

00:40:06.620 significant theological

00:40:07.860 disagreements

00:40:08.620 between Christians 0.95

00:40:09.640 and Jews.

00:40:10.520 My attitude is

00:40:11.420 let's have those

00:40:12.380 conversations,

00:40:13.500 let's have those

00:40:14.180 disagreements

00:40:14.720 when we have them,

00:40:15.520 but if there are

00:40:16.180 shared areas of interest,

00:40:17.720 we ought to be

00:40:18.260 willing to do that too.

00:40:19.620 For example,

00:40:20.840 I really care about,

00:40:22.020 one thing I really,

00:40:23.540 really care about

00:40:24.320 is the preservation

00:40:25.280 of the Church

00:40:26.120 of the Holy Sepulchre

00:40:27.040 in Jerusalem.

00:40:28.360 Christians believe

00:40:29.140 that that is the site

00:40:30.660 where Jesus Christ

00:40:32.020 was crucified

00:40:32.700 and also that

00:40:34.140 his tomb

00:40:34.860 is right there

00:40:36.340 as well.

00:40:37.280 My attitude is

00:40:38.340 if we can work

00:40:39.400 with our friends

00:40:40.000 in Israel

00:40:40.420 to make sure

00:40:41.280 that Christians

00:40:42.120 have safe access

00:40:43.100 to that site,

00:40:43.900 that's an obvious area

00:40:45.220 of common interest.

00:40:46.460 I am fine with that.

00:40:47.680 What I'm not okay with

00:40:48.940 is any country

00:40:49.940 coming before

00:40:50.580 the interests

00:40:51.160 of American citizens

00:40:52.200 and it is important

00:40:53.420 for all of us,

00:40:55.080 assuming we're

00:40:55.520 American citizens,

00:40:56.260 to put the interest

00:40:57.360 of our own country first.

00:40:58.460 That's what we're going to do.

00:40:59.780 That's what we try to do

00:41:00.640 every single day,

00:41:01.260 I promise you.

00:41:02.300 Thank you.

00:41:02.800 Is it true

00:41:04.580 that Israel and Jews

00:41:06.060 persecute Christians?

00:41:08.060 I've been to Israel

00:41:09.380 and I've been to Iraq

00:41:10.440 and I've been to

00:41:10.940 the United Emirates

00:41:11.720 and I've seen

00:41:13.260 other countries

00:41:14.020 that I haven't been to.

00:41:15.180 I know that Egypt 0.62

00:41:16.060 is a place

00:41:16.640 where Coptic Christians 0.99

00:41:17.640 are killed by 0.99

00:41:18.880 Islamic terrorists 1.00

00:41:19.620 all the time. 0.99

00:41:20.240 I know that Christians

00:41:21.880 have been purged

00:41:22.740 from Lebanon

00:41:23.300 and from Iraq.

00:41:24.400 I've been to Bethlehem

00:41:25.600 and I've seen

00:41:26.400 how the tiny Christian community 0.96

00:41:27.940 is being pressured

00:41:29.340 by the Muslim majority.

00:41:30.660 Israel is actually

00:41:32.960 the only country

00:41:34.440 in the Middle East

00:41:35.380 where Christians 0.77

00:41:36.360 have their full rights.

00:41:38.140 Hopefully,

00:41:38.920 the United Arab Emirates

00:41:39.960 and Bahrain

00:41:40.520 are slowly moving

00:41:41.300 in that direction too.

00:41:43.560 But to accuse the Jews

00:41:45.020 of persecuting Christians

00:41:46.340 is something that

00:41:48.160 I think in his day

00:41:49.340 Charlie Kirk

00:41:50.740 would have swatted down.

00:41:52.400 But J.D. Vance

00:41:53.600 just sort of accepted

00:41:54.480 the premise of the question

00:41:55.560 and said that

00:41:57.700 no one controls

00:41:59.180 this president

00:42:00.400 implying that

00:42:01.960 maybe other presidents

00:42:03.420 are being controlled

00:42:04.120 by Israel

00:42:04.680 and saying that

00:42:05.500 he wants Israel 0.92

00:42:06.320 to protect access

00:42:07.380 to Christian sites

00:42:08.660 like the Church

00:42:09.220 of the Holy Sepulcher.

00:42:10.720 Yeah, Israel does. 0.76

00:42:12.060 I just found it so weird

00:42:13.540 that J.D. Vance

00:42:15.540 did not rebut

00:42:17.480 or counter

00:42:18.780 or even just put on

00:42:19.680 the record

00:42:20.000 that he disagreed

00:42:21.020 with any of those things.

00:42:23.100 Charlie Kirk

00:42:23.660 would have smashed

00:42:24.400 those questions.

00:42:25.100 I don't know.

00:42:25.360 Maybe it's asking too much

00:42:26.440 for the Vice President

00:42:27.180 of the United States

00:42:28.500 to fact check

00:42:29.360 people in a town hall.

00:42:30.740 But he did sign up

00:42:31.800 for that project.

00:42:33.400 So I put to J.D. Vance

00:42:35.060 three questions

00:42:36.100 given that I had

00:42:37.760 his attention.

00:42:38.320 I said,

00:42:38.580 do you think Jews

00:42:39.560 or Judaism

00:42:40.240 do persecute Christians?

00:42:43.040 Do you think Israel

00:42:43.820 is a threat

00:42:44.680 to Christianity

00:42:45.980 in the Middle East?

00:42:47.540 I mean,

00:42:47.760 we all remember

00:42:48.300 those horrific

00:42:49.000 ISIS pictures 0.97

00:42:50.460 of them beheading 0.99

00:42:51.260 the Coptic Christians 1.00

00:42:52.120 in Egypt.

00:42:53.680 Do you really think

00:42:55.740 Israel controlled

00:42:56.620 other U.S. presidents

00:42:57.820 like Barack Obama

00:42:59.040 maybe?

00:42:59.520 Like Joe Biden?

00:43:00.660 Like,

00:43:00.860 which ones?

00:43:02.500 And I wrote,

00:43:03.000 P.S. I'm a fan.

00:43:04.900 Probably the biggest

00:43:05.620 Trump supporter in Canada.

00:43:06.780 Not an easy thing to be.

00:43:08.180 I said,

00:43:08.500 I like your style too.

00:43:09.360 I do.

00:43:09.760 But I say,

00:43:10.980 you say I've misinterpreted

00:43:12.180 your comments

00:43:12.700 about your family.

00:43:13.760 I obviously accept

00:43:14.500 your explanation,

00:43:15.520 but I'm hoping

00:43:16.040 I've misinterpreted

00:43:17.060 your other comments too.

00:43:19.400 Looks like you're

00:43:19.900 trying to appease

00:43:20.520 an insatiable

00:43:21.400 racist movement 0.99

00:43:22.560 led by a troll 0.99

00:43:23.900 who praises 0.96

00:43:24.460 both Hitler and Stalin 0.63

00:43:25.600 and who has repeatedly

00:43:27.060 called for opposition

00:43:28.020 to both you

00:43:28.660 and President Trump.

00:43:30.180 Say it ain't so.

00:43:33.100 Anyways,

00:43:33.620 obviously I don't like

00:43:34.380 quarreling with

00:43:35.220 the Trump administration.

00:43:36.540 If I had to score them,

00:43:38.720 I'd give them

00:43:39.100 an 11 out of 10

00:43:40.100 on literally

00:43:41.760 everything they're doing.

00:43:42.920 They're not just

00:43:43.420 saving America,

00:43:44.400 they're saving the world.

00:43:45.640 Even though it might not

00:43:46.520 feel that way in Canada

00:43:47.740 right now on the tariffs,

00:43:49.280 I believe that

00:43:50.080 Donald Trump

00:43:50.600 and his administration

00:43:51.520 not only are bringing

00:43:52.760 peace to the world,

00:43:53.680 they're bringing

00:43:53.920 prosperity to the world.

00:43:55.620 And in so many ways

00:43:56.960 there's what's stopping

00:43:57.940 the world from falling

00:43:58.760 into violence and chaos.

00:44:00.900 I mean,

00:44:01.060 imagine a world

00:44:02.080 where America

00:44:03.160 wasn't the key country

00:44:04.240 but where China was,

00:44:06.300 which is, I think,

00:44:06.900 the alternative.

00:44:08.420 In terms of Jews

00:44:09.680 in Israel,

00:44:10.220 no president has been

00:44:11.100 a better friend

00:44:11.640 to Jews or Israel

00:44:12.360 than Trump,

00:44:13.140 by the way.

00:44:14.340 And no one would have

00:44:15.280 been worse than

00:44:16.080 Kamala Harris.

00:44:16.880 I mean,

00:44:17.540 Zoran Mamdani

00:44:18.500 is the center

00:44:19.420 of the Democrats now.

00:44:20.440 I just find it incredible

00:44:22.240 that so many

00:44:22.880 anti-Jewish activists

00:44:24.260 who claim to be

00:44:24.980 pro-America

00:44:25.680 are either silent

00:44:27.200 on the actual threat

00:44:28.940 posed by Islamism

00:44:30.520 or, like Tucker Carlson,

00:44:32.140 they positively go to bat

00:44:33.820 for Islamists in Qatar.

00:44:36.040 Look, I'm worried about

00:44:36.920 anti-Semitism

00:44:37.380 in the Republican Party

00:44:38.320 because I think it's

00:44:38.860 a corrosive socialist mindset.

00:44:41.180 I think that 0.65

00:44:41.640 blaming all the Jews 1.00

00:44:43.260 is a way 0.65

00:44:44.020 of absolving yourself

00:44:45.180 from responsibility

00:44:45.840 in your own life.

00:44:46.720 and it's collective

00:44:47.720 punishment

00:44:48.300 of an external group

00:44:49.600 I think is false.

00:44:51.160 I think Israel 0.98

00:44:51.800 and America

00:44:52.240 have been true allies.

00:44:54.040 And I think

00:44:54.360 that when you compare

00:44:56.440 the costs

00:44:57.100 of Israel's friendship

00:44:58.440 with America,

00:45:00.440 it's much lower

00:45:01.180 than the cost of Qatar,

00:45:02.660 where America

00:45:03.380 has a $10 billion

00:45:04.480 a year base,

00:45:05.540 or Turkey,

00:45:06.440 where America

00:45:07.080 has a $10 billion

00:45:08.440 a year base.

00:45:09.480 Do you know

00:45:09.820 that America

00:45:10.220 even stores its nukes

00:45:11.260 in Turkey?

00:45:12.260 There's so many ways

00:45:13.980 that this

00:45:14.540 U.S.-Israel relationship

00:45:16.640 is positive,

00:45:17.720 and I think

00:45:18.300 it's being poisoned

00:45:19.140 in part by funding

00:45:20.080 from Qatar.

00:45:21.540 I do think

00:45:22.340 I overstated the case

00:45:23.380 on J.D. Vance

00:45:24.260 discussing his wife's religion,

00:45:27.020 and I think

00:45:27.720 he took it personally,

00:45:28.520 which is fair enough.

00:45:29.300 But I really would like

00:45:30.820 to hear his answers

00:45:31.600 on the other questions.

00:45:32.760 Is Tucker Carlson

00:45:33.740 also anti-Christian,

00:45:35.220 or is that okay?

00:45:37.560 You know,

00:45:37.940 Tucker Carlson's son

00:45:38.880 works for J.D. Vance.

00:45:39.940 I wonder what that's all about.

00:45:42.120 Does J.D. Vance

00:45:42.720 really think

00:45:43.500 Israel and the Jewish

00:45:44.440 religion itself

00:45:45.760 persecute Christians?

00:45:47.280 Can you really say that

00:45:48.520 in the Middle East

00:45:49.540 where ISIS

00:45:51.020 would purge

00:45:52.320 entire Christian towns

00:45:53.620 in Iraq?

00:45:55.020 It's not his job

00:45:56.700 to rebut every conspiracy

00:45:57.920 in the world,

00:45:58.340 but when you agree

00:45:58.940 to take questions

00:45:59.760 at a TPUSA event,

00:46:01.460 you sort of make it

00:46:02.280 your job for an hour.

00:46:03.860 I'm not against J.D. Vance.

00:46:05.100 I sort of like him,

00:46:05.980 and I think he's strong

00:46:06.700 on freedom of speech.

00:46:07.700 I love watching him

00:46:08.480 talk in places like

00:46:09.560 Europe and Munich

00:46:11.200 and talking to the

00:46:12.860 British Prime Minister

00:46:13.460 about free speech,

00:46:14.080 but I am a bit worried

00:46:15.680 by him.

00:46:16.520 Not by his comment

00:46:17.400 about his wife,

00:46:18.060 which I think

00:46:18.700 I now understand,

00:46:20.120 but about his lack

00:46:21.340 of comments

00:46:21.820 on other things.

00:46:23.960 You tell me.

00:46:24.780 What do you think?

00:46:26.580 Stay with us for more.

00:46:27.600 Well, the other day

00:46:37.380 we talked about

00:46:37.840 the possibility

00:46:38.480 of a general strike

00:46:40.080 in Alberta.

00:46:40.920 Those aren't things

00:46:41.600 that happen in Canada a lot.

00:46:43.260 There was a general strike

00:46:44.420 in Winnipeg

00:46:45.020 about a century ago.

00:46:46.200 My research tells me

00:46:47.280 the last general strike

00:46:48.300 in Canada

00:46:48.820 was actually in 1976,

00:46:51.360 almost 50 years ago,

00:46:52.940 and funny enough,

00:46:53.820 it was about wage

00:46:54.660 and price controls

00:46:55.400 imposed by Pierre Trudeau.

00:46:57.420 Now, if I've missed

00:46:58.160 a general strike out there,

00:46:59.260 let me know,

00:47:00.160 but the idea seems

00:47:01.300 so old-fashioned

00:47:02.400 and sort of,

00:47:03.460 well, a little communist.

00:47:04.840 The idea that everyone

00:47:06.080 would strike

00:47:06.860 in general disgust,

00:47:08.700 I suppose that's sort of

00:47:09.740 an emergency,

00:47:11.820 press the red button,

00:47:13.100 you know,

00:47:13.400 like a fire alarm

00:47:14.820 that you pull.

00:47:15.580 I suppose it is

00:47:17.480 like an emergency button,

00:47:18.640 and if things got

00:47:20.480 to that stage,

00:47:21.280 maybe it's a sign

00:47:22.260 that democracy

00:47:23.400 is off the rails,

00:47:24.240 but in this case,

00:47:25.220 it's the Alberta

00:47:26.220 Teachers Union

00:47:27.000 who, having been offered

00:47:28.460 the highest wages

00:47:30.340 in Western Canada,

00:47:32.480 want a little bit more

00:47:33.520 and want a little bit

00:47:35.100 of political control

00:47:36.140 in the classrooms.

00:47:37.320 Well, I was delighted

00:47:38.060 to read

00:47:38.560 in the Edmonton Journal

00:47:40.280 just today an article

00:47:41.320 by Lorne Gunter

00:47:42.600 entitled

00:47:43.000 General Strike,

00:47:44.720 Very Unlikely,

00:47:46.640 But UCP Could Survive One.

00:47:49.920 I read the article

00:47:50.800 very carefully,

00:47:51.640 and it also suggests

00:47:52.940 that the UCP

00:47:53.720 might not survive.

00:47:55.340 One joining me now

00:47:56.080 is the author

00:47:56.900 of this article,

00:47:57.560 our friend Lorne Gunter,

00:47:59.060 who joins us via Zoom.

00:48:00.380 Lorne, great to see you again.

00:48:01.260 Thanks for taking the time.

00:48:01.680 Good to see you.

00:48:03.000 I read your piece,

00:48:04.380 and you thought

00:48:05.220 there was a chance

00:48:06.520 that there's enough

00:48:07.780 burning anger there,

00:48:09.380 but I don't know.

00:48:10.740 Like, would other unions

00:48:12.140 break their agreements?

00:48:13.260 Would private sector unions

00:48:14.860 care at all?

00:48:16.000 Like, what do you think

00:48:16.600 would happen?

00:48:17.340 I don't think so.

00:48:18.360 I think if you tried

00:48:19.140 to get, say,

00:48:20.100 pipe fitters

00:48:20.940 or unionized plumbers

00:48:23.020 to go out of work,

00:48:24.400 to go out off of work

00:48:26.040 to support

00:48:27.220 the teachers' demands,

00:48:28.960 you'd be really hard-pressed

00:48:30.880 to find any of them

00:48:31.680 who would.

00:48:32.180 Why would they give up

00:48:32.860 a paycheck

00:48:33.320 to go and help teachers

00:48:35.120 who are making,

00:48:36.320 we're going to get

00:48:36.880 a 17% raise,

00:48:38.600 most of them,

00:48:39.660 out of this deal,

00:48:41.560 and really what

00:48:43.260 they're fighting over

00:48:44.260 is the use of

00:48:45.960 the notwithstanding clause

00:48:47.540 in the back-to-work legislation.

00:48:49.700 So that might animate

00:48:51.420 some other unions,

00:48:53.040 but it's a pretty obscure

00:48:54.340 reason to go out

00:48:56.080 on a strike.

00:48:56.900 So, yeah,

00:48:57.520 I'm not confident.

00:48:59.280 And besides,

00:49:00.340 the Alberta Federation

00:49:01.680 of Labor,

00:49:02.160 which is behind

00:49:02.960 the general strike talk,

00:49:06.040 has been,

00:49:07.820 has now a two-point

00:49:09.400 plan in place

00:49:11.140 before they would

00:49:12.020 do a general strike.

00:49:13.300 Well, the general strike

00:49:14.520 has to come

00:49:15.160 when the anger

00:49:16.880 is there.

00:49:18.260 When the,

00:49:19.280 it's got to be immediate.

00:49:21.120 If they're not

00:49:21.880 out on strike

00:49:22.760 within about 10 days,

00:49:24.600 they're not going.

00:49:25.760 Yeah.

00:49:26.040 So,

00:49:26.700 and the AFL says,

00:49:29.000 well,

00:49:29.220 we want you to

00:49:30.160 go and start

00:49:31.100 recall petitions

00:49:33.000 against UCP MLAs.

00:49:35.360 And we,

00:49:35.740 like,

00:49:36.020 you know,

00:49:36.200 volunteer for the

00:49:36.920 opposition parties

00:49:37.920 and work for them

00:49:38.620 to get rid of the UCP.

00:49:40.100 Wow,

00:49:40.360 that's not two weeks

00:49:41.500 from now.

00:49:41.960 So,

00:49:42.220 I don't think

00:49:43.220 a general strike

00:49:44.360 is going to happen.

00:49:45.380 Huh.

00:49:46.620 So,

00:49:47.360 the notwithstanding

00:49:48.600 clauses invoked

00:49:49.340 for the right

00:49:50.340 to strike,

00:49:51.200 but has it also

00:49:52.280 been used,

00:49:52.780 and perhaps I misunderstood

00:49:53.540 this,

00:49:54.320 it seems to me

00:49:55.080 that a lot of teachers

00:49:56.240 and the NDP

00:49:57.100 and the Alberta

00:49:58.580 Federation of Labor,

00:49:59.720 they also don't like

00:50:00.900 a particular ideology,

00:50:03.020 Danielle Smith,

00:50:04.020 on transgenderism.

00:50:06.640 Or,

00:50:07.080 have I conflated

00:50:08.400 the two issues?

00:50:08.960 Because it seemed

00:50:09.420 to me

00:50:09.780 that one

00:50:10.360 of the things

00:50:10.740 that teachers

00:50:11.260 were really

00:50:11.900 dead set against

00:50:12.820 was Danielle Smith

00:50:14.160 having some say

00:50:15.820 about what books

00:50:17.500 were in libraries

00:50:18.240 and maybe even

00:50:18.960 gay straight alliance 0.83

00:50:19.920 clubs.

00:50:20.640 Have I

00:50:20.960 inadvertently

00:50:22.280 confused the two issues?

00:50:23.460 No,

00:50:24.520 but

00:50:24.720 the second part

00:50:27.160 didn't come up

00:50:27.780 much in labor

00:50:29.100 negotiations.

00:50:30.160 So,

00:50:30.340 it is a problem.

00:50:32.620 There are a lot

00:50:33.280 of teachers

00:50:33.680 who are upset

00:50:34.440 with the

00:50:36.020 provincial government's

00:50:37.200 policy,

00:50:37.940 which says

00:50:38.680 if a student

00:50:40.660 wants to change

00:50:41.520 pronouns at school,

00:50:42.600 you have to

00:50:43.020 notify the parents

00:50:44.960 and you're not

00:50:46.740 allowed to

00:50:47.480 start pushing

00:50:49.120 puberty blockers

00:50:50.460 and things

00:50:51.240 for people

00:50:51.600 under 16.

00:50:53.320 So,

00:50:53.900 there was some

00:50:54.460 pushback on that

00:50:55.860 a few months ago,

00:50:56.860 but I think

00:50:57.580 that the heat

00:50:58.100 has come out

00:50:58.700 of that

00:50:59.100 for a while.

00:51:00.740 But the province

00:51:02.020 has talked about

00:51:02.640 using the

00:51:03.140 notwithstanding

00:51:03.760 clause on that

00:51:04.500 too.

00:51:04.940 So,

00:51:05.200 there is a

00:51:05.660 general concern

00:51:07.420 that the

00:51:07.940 notwithstanding

00:51:08.600 clause is going

00:51:09.800 to be used

00:51:10.540 more often.

00:51:11.980 And therefore,

00:51:13.180 the province

00:51:15.260 is going to

00:51:15.780 step on

00:51:16.480 fashionable

00:51:17.380 progressive

00:51:18.020 rights.

00:51:18.680 and so

00:51:19.700 the union

00:51:20.840 leadership

00:51:21.360 with the

00:51:21.940 ATA

00:51:22.440 and to some

00:51:24.180 extent the

00:51:24.660 AFL

00:51:25.120 doesn't like

00:51:25.880 that.

00:51:26.720 And so

00:51:26.960 they want

00:51:27.440 to see

00:51:27.940 that

00:51:28.300 curtailed.

00:51:29.960 But

00:51:30.080 there's a

00:51:31.860 very fascinating

00:51:32.680 study by a

00:51:33.440 couple of

00:51:33.760 academics in

00:51:34.580 Ontario

00:51:35.720 that said

00:51:36.680 that up

00:51:37.260 to 2014

00:51:38.400 only 30%

00:51:41.040 of provincial

00:51:42.180 laws that

00:51:43.060 went to the

00:51:43.540 Supreme Court

00:51:44.260 were overturned

00:51:45.780 on constitutional

00:51:46.600 ground.

00:51:47.020 since then

00:51:48.860 over 60%

00:51:50.040 have been

00:51:50.980 overturned.

00:51:51.900 And so

00:51:52.040 the province

00:51:52.500 was getting

00:51:52.860 tired of

00:51:53.320 watching the

00:51:54.140 Supreme Court

00:51:54.760 dismantle that

00:51:55.580 legislation.

00:51:56.960 Notwithstanding

00:51:57.420 clause was put

00:51:58.160 in the charter

00:51:58.780 specifically to

00:52:00.020 deal with that.

00:52:01.260 And so now

00:52:01.840 more of them

00:52:02.540 are starting

00:52:02.940 to use it.

00:52:03.820 Yeah.

00:52:04.400 And, you know,

00:52:05.480 I just can't

00:52:06.020 think of anything

00:52:06.680 more removed

00:52:08.060 from everyday

00:52:09.200 ordinary life

00:52:10.060 for most

00:52:10.620 severely normal

00:52:11.240 people.

00:52:11.600 I mean,

00:52:12.160 when you say

00:52:12.620 notwithstanding

00:52:13.220 clause,

00:52:13.680 first of all,

00:52:14.340 those two

00:52:14.840 words,

00:52:15.680 what does

00:52:16.080 that even

00:52:16.460 mean?

00:52:16.820 Like, I think

00:52:17.480 a lot of

00:52:17.780 people, their

00:52:18.140 eyes will start

00:52:18.680 to close and

00:52:19.200 have a nap.

00:52:19.860 And I'm not

00:52:20.400 looking down on

00:52:21.040 anyone.

00:52:21.360 I'm just saying

00:52:21.760 it's such an

00:52:22.720 abstract technical

00:52:23.600 thing.

00:52:23.940 And even if you

00:52:24.440 explain it to

00:52:25.100 people, I don't

00:52:26.980 think people are

00:52:27.580 outraged by it.

00:52:28.560 I mean, I know

00:52:29.160 the fancy people,

00:52:31.000 oh, well, of

00:52:32.020 course you're

00:52:32.700 against the

00:52:33.180 notwithstanding

00:52:33.660 clause.

00:52:34.080 It's an attack

00:52:34.540 on democracy.

00:52:35.700 But if someone

00:52:36.580 says, well, what

00:52:37.140 is it again?

00:52:38.220 Oh, it

00:52:38.560 allows the

00:52:39.220 legislature to

00:52:40.340 not be

00:52:41.720 overturned for a

00:52:42.460 period of five

00:52:43.020 years, but they

00:52:43.460 have to, like,

00:52:43.960 it's so

00:52:44.540 inoffensive.

00:52:46.280 I don't know.

00:52:46.840 I just don't see

00:52:47.640 that as motivating

00:52:48.600 people.

00:52:49.260 I don't see it.

00:52:50.680 And I think the

00:52:52.420 one thing that

00:52:52.960 people have to

00:52:53.660 remember is that

00:52:54.920 if it weren't for

00:52:56.120 the notwithstanding

00:52:56.880 clause, there

00:52:57.740 would be no

00:52:58.420 charter.

00:52:58.820 Right.

00:52:59.100 Because there

00:52:59.540 were six

00:52:59.960 provinces at

00:53:00.720 the time of

00:53:01.660 charter negotiations

00:53:02.620 in 81, 82,

00:53:04.000 who didn't want

00:53:05.240 the charter.

00:53:05.780 And they

00:53:07.600 only agreed to

00:53:08.620 allow it to

00:53:09.100 go ahead with

00:53:09.920 the notwithstanding

00:53:10.580 clause because it

00:53:11.680 also includes

00:53:12.860 earlier in the

00:53:14.040 document the

00:53:16.000 right for

00:53:16.440 judicial review,

00:53:17.560 which had not

00:53:18.420 been an

00:53:19.620 enumerated right

00:53:20.580 in Canada before

00:53:21.440 that.

00:53:22.200 But it says

00:53:22.800 judges have the

00:53:23.540 right to

00:53:24.520 invalidate laws

00:53:26.080 based on

00:53:27.000 constitutional

00:53:27.560 grounds.

00:53:28.180 And so the

00:53:28.500 provinces, six

00:53:29.320 provinces, said,

00:53:30.160 look, you can

00:53:31.020 do that.

00:53:31.700 We need to

00:53:32.220 have something

00:53:32.680 to counterbalance

00:53:33.360 it.

00:53:33.660 So with the

00:53:34.460 notwithstanding

00:53:34.960 clause in,

00:53:35.780 yeah, well

00:53:36.900 I'm, I

00:53:37.980 think it

00:53:38.420 should be so

00:53:39.020 normalized, my

00:53:40.280 own view, is

00:53:41.340 that notwithstanding

00:53:42.040 clause should be

00:53:42.620 added in like

00:53:43.640 salt and pepper

00:53:44.380 in just to

00:53:45.320 almost every

00:53:45.980 dish just to

00:53:47.100 get over this

00:53:47.700 weird fake

00:53:48.380 taboo.

00:53:49.200 And let me

00:53:49.480 switch gears if

00:53:50.180 I may.

00:53:50.540 I really

00:53:50.720 appreciate your

00:53:51.400 info on the

00:53:52.820 province, but I

00:53:53.500 want to switch

00:53:53.920 gears just for

00:53:54.460 one second to

00:53:55.820 an example of

00:53:56.640 where I think

00:53:57.240 the notwithstanding

00:53:57.840 clause that is

00:54:00.140 just, it was

00:54:01.020 designed for this

00:54:02.000 moment.

00:54:02.640 Earlier today,

00:54:03.560 Lorne, the

00:54:04.720 Supreme Court

00:54:05.360 of Canada

00:54:05.820 came out

00:54:06.440 with a

00:54:06.760 ruling striking

00:54:08.040 down Stephen

00:54:09.780 Harper, I think

00:54:10.400 it was Stephen

00:54:10.780 Harper's, policies

00:54:12.020 on mandatory

00:54:13.560 minimum sentences

00:54:14.420 for child

00:54:15.300 pornography.

00:54:16.340 And it was a

00:54:17.300 five to four

00:54:18.280 ruling.

00:54:18.920 So nine

00:54:19.940 judges, if just

00:54:21.520 one of them had

00:54:22.440 gone the other

00:54:23.040 way, the

00:54:24.360 mandatory minimum

00:54:25.720 would have been

00:54:26.180 upheld.

00:54:26.640 So basically,

00:54:27.340 one human

00:54:27.960 being, one

00:54:29.060 judge, and

00:54:29.840 and I bet

00:54:30.560 you, I bet

00:54:31.720 you not one

00:54:32.380 in a hundred

00:54:32.780 Canadians could

00:54:33.540 name all nine

00:54:34.120 Supreme Court

00:54:34.620 judges.

00:54:35.020 I'd be

00:54:35.220 pressed to do

00:54:35.780 it.

00:54:36.120 I bet you

00:54:36.860 it wasn't

00:54:37.140 one in a

00:54:37.640 hundred thousand.

00:54:38.580 Yeah.

00:54:38.960 I mean, we

00:54:39.580 probably know

00:54:40.020 more American

00:54:40.700 Supreme Court

00:54:41.380 judges because

00:54:41.940 they're in the

00:54:42.280 news more.

00:54:43.200 So one

00:54:43.760 elect, unelected

00:54:46.200 judge that no

00:54:47.800 one could even

00:54:48.320 name, it's one

00:54:49.440 person, or you

00:54:50.380 could say nine

00:54:51.180 people, you

00:54:51.920 could say nine

00:54:52.720 people, have

00:54:53.520 made a decision

00:54:54.220 that in my bones

00:54:55.160 I know 90% of

00:54:56.180 Canadians are

00:54:56.720 against.

00:54:57.440 And what are you

00:54:58.000 going to do?

00:54:58.820 The notwithstanding

00:54:59.500 clause would say

00:55:00.680 we're going to

00:55:01.620 judge proof this

00:55:03.120 law for at

00:55:04.080 least five years.

00:55:05.700 And, and so

00:55:06.640 I think that the

00:55:08.080 liberals now have

00:55:08.820 a choice to make

00:55:09.460 federally, do

00:55:10.340 they use the

00:55:10.900 notwithstanding

00:55:11.420 clause to

00:55:12.520 preserve this

00:55:13.960 mandatory minimum

00:55:14.900 sentence from

00:55:15.500 child pornography?

00:55:16.680 No, they 1.00

00:55:17.460 don't.

00:55:18.120 Because on

00:55:18.960 another matter

00:55:19.740 that's before the

00:55:20.540 court, on

00:55:21.500 Quebec's Bill

00:55:22.540 21, which is

00:55:23.540 the secular

00:55:24.100 law that, you

00:55:25.740 know, no

00:55:26.200 public servant

00:55:27.100 or teacher

00:55:27.640 or police

00:55:28.400 officer can

00:55:29.380 wear a

00:55:29.760 turban, a

00:55:30.620 hijab, a

00:55:31.460 kippah, a 0.91

00:55:33.020 cross.

00:55:34.560 The feds are

00:55:35.580 there fighting

00:55:36.440 at the Supreme

00:55:37.260 Court to have

00:55:38.060 the notwithstanding

00:55:39.080 clause nullified.

00:55:40.380 So they're not

00:55:41.460 going to use the

00:55:42.160 notwithstanding

00:55:42.720 clause on this

00:55:43.540 bill.

00:55:44.460 And Carney has

00:55:45.560 said many times

00:55:46.660 that he thinks

00:55:48.200 the notwithstanding

00:55:49.280 clause is

00:55:49.920 anti-democratic.

00:55:51.220 No, it's

00:55:52.020 precisely the

00:55:53.300 opposite.

00:55:54.060 Yeah.

00:55:54.360 You have elected

00:55:55.840 officials in

00:55:56.720 every province

00:55:57.540 and nationally

00:55:58.580 who should

00:56:00.060 have the

00:56:00.480 last say.

00:56:02.380 They shouldn't

00:56:03.180 do it

00:56:03.500 willy-nilly.

00:56:04.200 They shouldn't

00:56:04.640 do it

00:56:04.940 trivially, but

00:56:05.720 they should

00:56:06.600 have the

00:56:06.960 last say

00:56:07.420 because they

00:56:08.140 have the

00:56:09.200 mandate from

00:56:09.900 the people

00:56:10.460 in order to

00:56:11.840 change these

00:56:12.560 things.

00:56:13.460 But that

00:56:13.960 decision at

00:56:14.860 the Supreme

00:56:15.280 Court is

00:56:16.020 weird because

00:56:17.620 the case

00:56:19.440 before the

00:56:20.700 court was

00:56:21.660 two men

00:56:22.160 from Quebec

00:56:22.720 who pleaded

00:56:23.660 guilty to

00:56:24.340 being in

00:56:24.720 possession of

00:56:25.340 child pornography

00:56:26.120 that showed

00:56:27.120 violent acts

00:56:27.900 being done on

00:56:28.580 children as

00:56:29.200 young as

00:56:29.860 three.

00:56:31.540 And the

00:56:32.260 Supreme Court

00:56:32.720 is cruel and

00:56:34.360 unusual punishment

00:56:35.340 to give them

00:56:36.900 a one-year

00:56:37.420 minimum.

00:56:37.980 Give them a

00:56:38.740 five-year

00:56:39.280 minimum.

00:56:39.800 I mean, it

00:56:40.540 seems so

00:56:41.280 obnoxious to

00:56:42.060 me what they

00:56:42.980 were doing that

00:56:43.760 they should go

00:56:44.600 away for a

00:56:45.100 very long time.

00:56:46.100 But the

00:56:46.540 court's reasoning

00:56:47.420 was, well

00:56:48.880 technically if

00:56:50.240 an 18-year-old

00:56:51.500 had a

00:56:52.940 salacious

00:56:53.460 picture of

00:56:54.140 his 17-year-old

00:56:55.420 girlfriend on

00:56:57.260 his phone,

00:56:58.680 he might be

00:56:59.580 considered to

00:57:00.180 be in

00:57:00.980 possession of

00:57:02.600 child pornography.

00:57:03.840 And so 0.89

00:57:04.020 because of

00:57:04.460 that hypothetical

00:57:05.180 we think that

00:57:06.660 the minimum

00:57:07.020 is unconstitutional.

00:57:09.520 Well, first

00:57:10.080 of all, there

00:57:11.400 aren't many

00:57:11.780 provinces that

00:57:12.420 are going to

00:57:12.640 tell their

00:57:13.040 prosecutors to

00:57:14.560 prosecute an

00:57:15.240 18-year-old

00:57:15.840 boy because

00:57:16.300 he's got

00:57:16.680 a salacious

00:57:18.380 titillating

00:57:19.180 picture of

00:57:19.760 his girlfriend

00:57:20.260 on his

00:57:20.760 phone.

00:57:22.060 And the

00:57:22.660 consent laws

00:57:23.660 in Canada

00:57:24.260 clearly say

00:57:25.860 that you

00:57:27.060 can have

00:57:27.860 sexual activity

00:57:29.600 with underage

00:57:30.560 people if

00:57:32.300 they are

00:57:32.720 consenting and

00:57:33.460 there is no

00:57:34.200 relationship.

00:57:34.940 You're not

00:57:35.180 their guardian.

00:57:35.900 You're not

00:57:36.340 their boss.

00:57:37.900 You're having

00:57:38.660 no authority

00:57:39.640 over you.

00:57:40.080 You're not a

00:57:40.380 coach.

00:57:41.080 None of those

00:57:41.760 things.

00:57:42.740 And so

00:57:43.220 the hypothetical

00:57:45.060 that the

00:57:45.560 court came up

00:57:46.160 with is 0.99

00:57:46.480 ridiculous. 0.97

00:57:47.720 Yeah. 0.98

00:57:48.340 Well, I

00:57:49.100 tell you,

00:57:50.120 that is a

00:57:52.340 crazy case

00:57:53.920 for anyone

00:57:55.020 to die

00:57:55.560 on. 0.94

00:57:57.180 And it'll

00:57:58.720 be amazing.

00:58:00.000 I think you're

00:58:00.420 right.

00:58:00.940 I think the

00:58:01.420 liberals will

00:58:01.940 not use the

00:58:02.600 notwithstanding

00:58:03.000 clause because

00:58:03.560 of this other

00:58:04.300 attempt they

00:58:05.200 have to

00:58:05.860 denude the

00:58:06.840 constitution of

00:58:07.900 that clause.

00:58:09.020 You know, I

00:58:09.320 forget who it

00:58:09.780 was who once

00:58:10.800 used this

00:58:11.520 phrase with me

00:58:12.980 and it really

00:58:13.320 clicked.

00:58:13.700 all decisions

00:58:15.020 will be

00:58:15.440 decided by

00:58:16.460 vote.

00:58:17.660 The question

00:58:18.140 is, is it

00:58:18.900 a vote of

00:58:19.440 nine people

00:58:20.480 in a court?

00:58:22.380 Will it be a

00:58:22.900 vote of

00:58:23.200 340 people

00:58:24.680 in parliament?

00:58:25.900 Or will it be a

00:58:26.680 vote of millions

00:58:27.400 of people in

00:58:27.880 election?

00:58:28.440 It will be a

00:58:29.100 vote.

00:58:29.320 The question

00:58:29.680 is how

00:58:30.180 democratic or

00:58:31.280 how elite

00:58:31.820 will it be?

00:58:32.260 I don't know.

00:58:32.840 There's some

00:58:33.400 wiggle room in

00:58:33.900 that idea, but

00:58:34.460 I sort of

00:58:34.840 thought, yeah.

00:58:35.240 I mean, basically

00:58:37.080 these nine

00:58:38.340 super citizens

00:58:39.320 think that by a

00:58:40.740 one vote margin

00:58:41.660 they're going to

00:58:42.880 strike down, as

00:58:44.180 you say, quite a

00:58:45.480 lenient mandatory

00:58:46.480 minimum.

00:58:47.180 I don't know.

00:58:48.120 I think that's, I've

00:58:49.660 just seen the

00:58:50.180 reaction to that

00:58:50.880 ruling so far and

00:58:51.720 it's shocking to

00:58:52.460 me.

00:58:53.540 Yeah, me too.

00:58:54.880 Well, we'll see

00:58:55.700 what comes next.

00:58:56.500 So I want to ask

00:58:57.080 you one last

00:58:57.480 question before you

00:58:58.060 go.

00:58:58.300 I should have

00:58:58.780 asked it before

00:58:59.220 we switched over

00:59:00.180 to the federal

00:59:00.780 scene.

00:59:01.420 In your article,

00:59:02.780 and you mentioned

00:59:03.640 it about 10

00:59:04.160 minutes ago today,

00:59:04.780 that one of the

00:59:06.160 things in Alberta

00:59:06.820 they're looking to

00:59:07.400 do is have MLA

00:59:08.900 recall.

00:59:10.340 That they, in

00:59:11.000 Alberta, you can

00:59:12.200 actually get a

00:59:13.040 petition, and if

00:59:13.940 you get a certain

00:59:14.420 number of votes,

00:59:14.940 you can force a

00:59:16.680 special election, a

00:59:17.600 by-election.

00:59:18.340 And I think that's

00:59:19.080 great, and if I'm

00:59:20.060 not mistaken,

00:59:20.620 Danielle Smith has

00:59:21.280 lowered the

00:59:21.880 hurdles for these

00:59:23.100 because Jason

00:59:23.660 Kenney had them

00:59:24.320 absurdly high.

00:59:25.400 I'd have to check

00:59:26.060 that to know for

00:59:26.900 sure.

00:59:27.480 Do you think

00:59:28.280 there are any

00:59:30.040 conservative MLAs

00:59:31.140 who are at risk?

00:59:32.100 Because my

00:59:32.940 understanding of the

00:59:33.740 map is,

00:59:34.780 most conservatives

00:59:35.860 are in fairly

00:59:37.060 friendly territory.

00:59:38.160 Edmonton was

00:59:38.720 basically a desert

00:59:39.660 for them, and

00:59:40.820 that this is

00:59:41.400 basically an

00:59:42.760 empty threat.

00:59:43.340 You tell me if

00:59:43.840 I'm wrong.

00:59:44.280 I couldn't tell

00:59:45.820 you how all,

00:59:46.760 you know, 83 or

00:59:48.340 whatever number

00:59:49.100 the MLAs are,

00:59:49.980 but is it an

00:59:50.720 empty threat?

00:59:52.760 It's going to be

00:59:53.520 really hard for

00:59:54.220 them to get a 0.97

00:59:55.240 recall vote on

00:59:56.160 any MLA,

00:59:57.940 because the

00:59:59.240 standard is still

01:00:00.120 fairly high.

01:00:01.040 you have to get

01:00:02.540 60% of the

01:00:04.440 number of

01:00:05.360 people who

01:00:05.920 voted in the

01:00:07.300 last election.

01:00:08.100 It doesn't have

01:00:08.560 to be 60% of

01:00:09.960 the people who

01:00:10.960 voted.

01:00:11.520 You don't have

01:00:11.840 to go and find

01:00:12.440 all the names

01:00:13.080 on the electors

01:00:14.880 list and make

01:00:16.000 sure that these

01:00:16.700 people are now

01:00:17.440 signing a petition.

01:00:18.320 It could just be

01:00:18.720 60%, but the

01:00:20.140 people have to be

01:00:20.880 living in the

01:00:21.340 riding, and they

01:00:23.260 have to be over

01:00:23.820 18.

01:00:24.240 So it's going

01:00:26.960 to be tricky

01:00:27.600 to do that.

01:00:28.060 There's already

01:00:28.580 a recall petition

01:00:29.580 that's been

01:00:30.080 accepted by

01:00:31.460 Elections Alberta

01:00:32.840 against the

01:00:33.800 Education Minister,

01:00:35.820 and it was

01:00:36.620 started by a

01:00:37.800 dissident teacher,

01:00:39.800 but they said

01:00:41.660 to her,

01:00:42.340 okay, well,

01:00:43.960 we're going to

01:00:44.580 accept that this

01:00:45.200 is a valid

01:00:45.900 recall question,

01:00:48.660 but you now

01:00:49.240 have to get a

01:00:49.800 petition with

01:00:50.460 16,000 signatures

01:00:52.240 on it, all

01:00:53.280 from one

01:00:53.800 riding.

01:00:54.520 Yeah.

01:00:55.540 Yeah, well,

01:00:56.360 I mean, if they

01:00:57.180 can organize that,

01:00:58.320 then maybe they

01:00:59.000 do have a

01:00:59.840 rebellion on

01:01:00.320 their hands.

01:01:00.800 Again, I'm a

01:01:01.520 skeptic, but you

01:01:02.180 never know with

01:01:02.580 Alberta.

01:01:03.100 It's a rambunctious

01:01:03.800 place.

01:01:04.380 Hey, Lauren,

01:01:04.700 great to catch

01:01:05.260 up with you.

01:01:05.600 Thanks for

01:01:05.920 spending so much

01:01:06.520 time with us

01:01:06.980 today.

01:01:07.680 No worries.

01:01:08.400 All right, there

01:01:08.860 he is, Lauren

01:01:09.320 Gunter.

01:01:09.740 We've been

01:01:09.940 talking about

01:01:10.360 his article

01:01:10.680 in the Edmonton

01:01:11.140 Journal called

01:01:11.940 General Strike,

01:01:13.160 Very Unlikely,

01:01:13.960 but UCP Could

01:01:14.840 Survive One.

01:01:15.760 Stay with us.

01:01:16.900 Your letters to

01:01:17.780 me next.

01:01:24.240 Hey, welcome

01:01:27.740 back.

01:01:28.180 Your letters to

01:01:29.020 me.

01:01:29.180 The first one on

01:01:30.000 my conversation with

01:01:30.960 Drea last night about

01:01:32.120 the land grab that's

01:01:33.960 coming in BC and

01:01:35.120 other places.

01:01:36.300 Nellis Foisier says,

01:01:37.520 everyone better read

01:01:38.500 Bill C-15, UNDRIP.

01:01:41.300 That's the UN

01:01:41.960 Declaration on Rights

01:01:43.040 of Indigenous

01:01:43.400 People, which is

01:01:45.200 Canadian law.

01:01:46.500 The wording of that

01:01:47.160 bill makes it seem

01:01:47.880 like everywhere a

01:01:48.680 land use declaration

01:01:49.460 is used, the

01:01:50.660 property is

01:01:51.180 traditional land and

01:01:51.940 the indigenous own 0.99

01:01:52.920 it.

01:01:53.940 You know, Drea said

01:01:55.860 the court ruling was

01:01:56.720 800 pages long and

01:01:57.880 I have not read it,

01:01:59.240 but the very fact that

01:02:00.340 it's 800 pages long

01:02:01.360 shows that it's a,

01:02:02.600 like, if you can't

01:02:03.960 elucidate a ruling in

01:02:05.620 100 pages,

01:02:06.380 the very fact that

01:02:08.480 it's 800 pages sounds

01:02:09.520 insane to me.

01:02:10.920 It's designed to be

01:02:12.400 impenetrable to

01:02:13.400 ordinary people and

01:02:14.540 it makes me scared.

01:02:16.140 If you start messing

01:02:17.080 with people's property

01:02:18.000 rights, that's the

01:02:19.220 building blocks of

01:02:20.600 the economy.

01:02:21.740 Not just the economy,

01:02:22.780 of your life, of

01:02:23.740 your home.

01:02:24.480 Imagine investing

01:02:25.200 everything you have in

01:02:26.020 your home and then

01:02:26.840 hearing it's not your

01:02:27.620 home.

01:02:29.260 On my monologue last

01:02:30.620 night, Marilyn

01:02:31.200 Hagerman says,

01:02:32.660 everyone should know,

01:02:33.920 understand, and

01:02:34.660 remember that the

01:02:36.360 unions countrywide

01:02:37.520 are far left

01:02:38.180 leaning, riddled

01:02:40.340 with Marxist

01:02:40.960 communist ideologies

01:02:42.040 taking down a

01:02:42.960 province and

01:02:43.400 creating unrest.

01:02:44.700 Hatred and

01:02:45.240 bankrupting fiscal

01:02:46.020 responsibilities are

01:02:47.820 just some of their

01:02:48.460 playbook tools.

01:02:49.740 Can the post unions

01:02:50.500 fall under these

01:02:51.140 same tactics?

01:02:52.280 Union CEOs and

01:02:53.280 senior officials are

01:02:53.980 focused not on your

01:02:54.720 kids, but on their

01:02:55.880 own communist

01:02:56.540 ideologies and their

01:02:57.500 highly paid salaries.

01:02:59.380 I don't know if I'd

01:03:00.020 go so far as to call

01:03:01.040 every union that way,

01:03:02.220 but a lot of the

01:03:04.060 government sector

01:03:04.800 unions are really

01:03:05.880 political unions.

01:03:07.040 We've been talking

01:03:07.660 with Lauren Gunter

01:03:08.300 about how the

01:03:09.320 unions in Alberta

01:03:10.140 are effectively the

01:03:11.240 NDP opposition.

01:03:12.420 There really is no

01:03:13.080 dividing line.

01:03:14.640 I think that the

01:03:16.160 traditional idea of a

01:03:17.320 union was protecting

01:03:18.280 workers, I mean,

01:03:19.140 from the industrial

01:03:19.860 age, the industrial

01:03:21.300 revolution, maybe to

01:03:22.640 protect children or

01:03:24.220 basic health and

01:03:25.740 safety.

01:03:26.200 I really think

01:03:28.800 society has moved a

01:03:30.020 lot away from that

01:03:31.500 and if you look at

01:03:32.520 who benefits from

01:03:33.640 unions now, it's not

01:03:35.280 the poor working

01:03:36.580 class, it's the

01:03:37.700 pink-clawler

01:03:38.620 government workers

01:03:39.940 who are typically

01:03:40.620 six-figure earners.

01:03:42.100 It's very different

01:03:42.920 than when unions

01:03:43.740 were formed.

01:03:45.500 Well, that's our

01:03:45.980 show for today.

01:03:47.260 Until tomorrow,

01:03:48.100 actually until Monday,

01:03:49.440 on behalf of all of

01:03:50.300 us here at Rebel

01:03:50.940 World Headquarters,

01:03:51.820 to you at home,

01:03:52.400 good night and keep

01:03:53.760 fighting for freedom.

01:03:56.200 We'll be right back.
