00:05:46.700 Let me back up a little bit to set the scene to show you how this came about.

00:05:50.260 As you know, Donald Trump's main campaign platform

00:05:53.300 was to stop mass immigration in the United States.

00:05:56.360 Most of that is illegal mass immigration,

00:05:59.320 whereas here in Canada, most of it, appallingly, is legal.

00:06:02.640 We let millions of people into Canada on purpose.

00:06:05.200 In the U.S., I suppose you could say that

00:06:07.200 Joe Biden and Kamala Harris let them in on purpose, too,

00:06:10.220 but only in the sense of not enforcing the law, not guarding the border.

00:06:14.680 There are millions, perhaps tens of millions, of illegal migrants in the U.S.,

00:06:19.060 and Trump says he's going to kick them out.

00:06:21.960 Most of them came in from the southern border with Mexico, to be sure,

00:06:25.680 but they're not all Mexicans.

00:06:27.680 Other migrants from other Latin American countries, too.

00:06:30.900 They come in through what they call a caravan.

00:06:33.580 People from Africa, people from the Middle East, people from China,

00:06:36.560 they all know the southern border is the easy way into America,

00:06:40.720 but increasingly, Canada is, too.

00:06:48.400 We took in about 100,000 or more illegal immigrants at Roxham Road,

00:07:01.500 He said he's going to stop that.

00:07:03.640 It's an extension of his first-term promise to build a wall.

00:07:08.120 So as you remember, a few weeks ago, Trump tweeted,

00:07:10.560 or actually he posted it on his own social media platform, Truth Social,

00:07:14.140 that he expects Canada and Mexico to steal off the borders

00:07:18.100 to both illegal immigrants and illegal drugs by January 20th, when he's inaugurated,

00:07:24.300 or he'd hit each country with a 25% tariff.

00:07:27.580 Now, it's a bit odd, including Canada and Mexico in the same post.

00:07:32.080 I mean, the scale of the problem is much greater on the Mexican side.

00:07:36.480 I think Trump just wanted to be, you know, avoid being seen picking on Mexico.

00:07:41.200 He wanted to show that he's concerned about all borders.

00:07:44.680 And by the way, he's not exactly a fan of Justin Trudeau.

00:07:48.000 Well, the new Mexican president, who is a socialist like Trudeau,

00:08:30.440 He's showing that he's the de facto president while sleepy Joe Biden is sleeping somewhere.

00:08:34.420 I think he was looking to make things easier for himself when he finally does take office

00:08:40.760 And he's trying to build momentum of world leaders showing respect to America and to him

00:09:31.780 Georgia Maloney, the prime minister of Italy, was there.

00:09:40.380 And he had a brief interaction with Trump, and he tweeted about it.

00:09:44.400 I think it was sort of interesting that Legault went and Trudeau didn't.

00:09:49.160 Don't you find that unusual?

00:09:50.600 My point is Donald Trump is back.

00:09:53.900 And even though he's not actually the president for another month and a bit,

00:09:57.360 he's sure being treated as the president.

00:09:59.400 So his demand to Canada and to Mexico, while not a formal act of diplomacy,

00:10:11.440 And Mexico's president understood that enough to remove the risk,

00:10:15.960 to pull the stinger out just to get through the problem.

00:10:28.000 Now, whether or not the crisis will actually be resolved on the ground remains to be seen,

00:10:35.700 What Trump really got from Mexico was a moral pledge to strengthen the border.

00:10:51.620 and we have our own reasons to do this, but we're doing it,

00:10:54.960 which I think is probably true, and I think that's the right thing to say.

00:11:06.440 Now, compare that to Justin Trudeau.

00:11:11.240 It didn't resolve the matter, so then he zipped down to dinner at Mar-a-Lago,
