00:00:54.880 Welcome to Rebel Roundup, ladies and gentlemen, and the rest of you,

00:01:06.780 in which we look back at some of the very best commentaries of the week by your favorite Rebels.

00:01:11.140 I'm your host, David Menzies.

00:01:13.240 As the Beastie Boys once sang, you've got to fight for your right to party.

00:01:18.580 And you know what? In 2020 Toronto, you've also got to fight for your right to practice journalism.

00:01:25.560 Oh yeah, that's what our entire Rebel team did last week, led by our Commander-in-Chief, Ezra Levent.

00:01:31.840 And Ezra will drop by to prove that, contrary to popular belief, yes, you can successfully fight City Hall.

00:01:40.660 So, what are the rules exactly when it comes to being nasty to statues? 0.96

00:01:45.820 Well, apparently, beheading Catholic statues is merely so much tomfoolery.

00:01:51.780 But if one is to spray-paint the face of a Pierre Elliott Trudeau statue, 0.97

00:01:56.480 oh, that's a hate crime.

00:01:59.640 Sheila Gunn-Reed will delve into the hypocrisy inherent to statue vandalism.

00:02:05.680 And finally, letters. We get your letters. We get your letters every minute of every day.

00:02:09.620 And I'll share some of your responses regarding our incredible video

00:02:13.640 in which we attempted to practice journalism in the public square in Toronto.

00:02:18.960 Neither the thugs occupying the square wanted us there, nor did the City Hall security guards.

00:02:25.380 So, we just walked away.

00:02:27.120 Just kidding. We've stood our ground and we have the bruises to prove it.

00:02:31.460 But it was worth it, folks, because did we ever score a victory for freedom of the press and freedom of expression?

00:02:39.620 Those are your Rebels. Now, let's round them up.

00:02:46.920 I'm going to do a news report on my town square where I pay taxes every day.

00:02:51.960 That's just happening.

00:02:53.000 Whether I do it with the cops, with the security, or by my lonesome, it's happening.

00:02:56.540 All right. We spoke to the security there.

00:03:10.340 They said that at 1234, they trespassed all of you guys.

00:03:16.480 So, here's what I'm going to do.

00:03:19.820 I'm going to walk there now.

00:03:21.840 And that'll go one of three ways, I think.

00:03:24.200 One is, I'll go by myself and I'll probably get attacked.

00:03:29.660 That won't be good.

00:03:31.080 The other is, you come with me and I don't think they're going to lay a glove on you.

00:03:35.840 But I know how tough it is to be a cop these days.

00:03:37.900 They're filming everything. They're going to try and get you.

00:03:39.920 It's tough.

00:03:41.240 The third is, you arrest me.

00:03:43.580 Oh, I don't want that to happen.

00:03:45.200 But I am ready for that to happen.

00:03:46.540 Because the only reason I'm here with 15 of my friends is because we were shooed away from the town square yesterday and thought the president of the company himself is going to come down and prove that in Toronto, the town square is a place where a journalist can go peacefully.

00:04:03.000 So, if that is not true, we need to know it.

00:04:06.000 And if I get personally attacked, we need to know it.

00:04:09.380 If I get arrested, we need to know it.

00:04:11.680 So, I'm going to do that now.

00:04:13.700 I'm going to do it whether or not you guys are there.

00:04:14.900 Well, the thing is, I did mention that to them and they don't launch you on the property right now.

00:04:19.740 You know what?

00:04:20.520 1-800, I don't care.

00:04:22.440 I mean, their opinion matters not at all to me.

00:04:24.780 What I'm saying is, why don't you shoot some footage from here and get what you can get here while we're standing here and make sure that you guys are safe right now.

00:04:33.780 Because I'm a free citizen and that's my town hall.

00:04:38.140 That's my town square.

00:04:39.180 That's the answer.

00:04:39.780 Why there's no other answer to it.

00:04:42.120 I'm explaining to you what security told me.

00:04:44.060 If you're not happy with their...

00:04:45.340 I'm not interested in playing legal games with mall cops, officer.

00:04:47.900 So, unless you have any last minute things to say, I am now going to walk with my bravest cameraman and David.

00:04:55.580 I'm going to walk to the stairs.

00:04:57.040 I hope I don't get beat up.

00:04:58.560 I hope I don't get arrested.

00:05:00.060 Those are two possibilities.

00:05:01.960 I hope you guys will just walk with me to the stairs.

00:05:05.080 I'll do five minutes of journalism and then I'll call it a day.

00:05:08.280 Just to be clear, if I get a trespass...

00:05:09.700 So, Mocha, are you coming?

00:05:11.720 Just to be clear.

00:05:12.460 I thought that was a magnificent performance of, I guess, outdoor lawyering.

00:05:19.020 We're asserting ourselves.

00:05:20.700 You can already hear the moans from the sacred circle of the autonomous city.

00:05:26.000 And we're being met with the mall cops, for lack of a better term.

00:05:32.200 Ezra Levant here for rebelnews.com.

00:05:35.060 Wow, that was kind of like watching an episode of Perry Mason if that classic TV series featured an outdoor courtroom, that is.

00:05:42.660 But seriously, is that what it takes to practice journalism in the public square in Toronto of 2020?

00:05:48.820 Do journalists need to bring a lawyer along with a printout of the Trespass Act as well as, oh, I don't know, seven bodyguards?

00:05:56.300 And meanwhile, a bunch of violence-prone squatters occupy Nathan Phillips Square illegally and even erect a filthy tent city.

00:06:05.500 But nothing to see here, folks.

00:06:08.020 Absolute madness.

00:06:08.960 And without further ado, here is the Commander-in-Chief of Rebel News himself, Ezra Levant.

00:06:14.820 Welcome to Rebel Roundup, Ezra.

00:06:17.240 So I'm thinking that might have been the Rebel's greatest moment last week, Ezra, where we went to City Hall and basically asserted our right to practice journalism in defiance of these thugs.

00:06:32.860 But, you know, my takeaway, Ezra, is that there's always been bad guys, twas ever thus, since the dawn of mankind.

00:06:40.200 What we have right now in certain cities like Seattle, John Tory's Toronto, is the political masters acquiescing to the barbarians.

00:06:49.400 And that, these are the real villains in my book.

00:06:52.920 Yeah, well, I mean, we've had bad guys since Cain and Abel.

00:06:57.020 And one of the reasons we have police, which is actually a fairly new phenomenon in the sweep of history,

00:07:06.120 is what the philosopher Thomas Hobbes said.

00:07:09.600 It's a social contract where we all agree as a community, with each other, but we don't sign a contract, me and you and me and you.

00:07:17.900 We all agree as a group that we're going to give some power to the Leviathan.

00:07:23.720 That was the name of his book.

00:07:24.800 Some great power that will have a monopoly on violence.

00:07:32.060 That, unless it's in extreme circumstances like self-defense, we give up our natural rights to violence to the Leviathan in return for protection.

00:07:42.320 And Thomas Hobbes said that without that, without the agreement that we're going to be a community bound by certain rules,

00:07:48.380 and if we disagree, we settle it peacefully, and only the police will be marauding about with guns.

00:07:56.760 Life will be, according to Hobbes, nasty, brutish, and short.

00:08:01.320 And if you look at the CHAZ, that's the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone in Seattle, it was an extreme crime zone.

00:08:09.280 There were murders.

00:08:10.480 There were warlords.

00:08:11.980 There were gangs.

00:08:13.400 There was murder.

00:08:14.640 I'm sure there was rape. 1.00

00:08:15.600 There was theft.

00:08:17.080 There was obviously vandalism, trespass, things like that.

00:08:20.740 That's what life without police is like.

00:08:23.580 That's what defund police means.

00:08:25.800 But the craziness about the Toronto Autonomous Zone is that it's not in some neighborhood away from the City Hall.

00:08:33.620 It is right on the steps of City Hall, under the watchful gaze of City Hall security,

00:08:40.960 who actually were telling us to stop bothering the protesters.

00:08:46.980 We weren't bothering the protesters.

00:08:49.040 They were pushing us, threatening us, attacking our property, later punching one of our cameramen, kicking one of our bodyguards.

00:08:57.120 And the Toronto City Hall security were telling us that we were breaking the law.

00:09:05.160 Toronto City Hall gave them, as you pointed out, the porta-potty facilities.

00:09:10.340 And the Toronto police, forget about the mall cop-style security.

00:09:13.220 The Toronto police, I spent nearly 20 minutes haggling, negotiating, begging, compromising to have them let me pass.

00:09:23.640 I didn't mind doing it because, in a way, it was a teachable moment to show, you know, I wanted to explain to them,

00:09:30.660 we've done nothing wrong, we're here with clean hands, we have our lawyer, we're being, like, I wanted to make the points.

00:09:36.620 And I wanted one of those three outcomes.

00:09:40.120 I mean, I said to the cop, either I'm going to get beat up, and I obviously don't want that.

00:09:46.360 I mean, I could be really hurt.

00:09:48.360 But imagine the police standing by, the City Hall security standing by,

00:09:53.940 while I get beat up for doing journalism on the steps of City Hall.

00:09:56.640 That would be a shocking moment, I think.

00:09:59.000 Or they would arrest me.

00:10:01.940 That would be even more shocking.

00:10:02.940 What happened was the best alternative is that the police do their job.

00:10:06.620 Yeah, and it was bittersweet, too, wasn't it, Ezra?

00:10:08.840 Because it was like, okay, go out into the square for five minutes, do your little rant.

00:10:13.000 And we should, if our viewers haven't seen the original stories, we should give the back story.

00:10:18.840 We did that a week ago, Wednesday.

00:10:21.320 On Tuesday, Andrew went down in the morning.

00:10:24.200 I went down in the afternoon to Nathan Phillips Square.

00:10:26.980 We got chased out by the thugs.

00:10:29.020 That was Andrew's case.

00:10:30.280 In my case, it was the City Hall security, the mall cops, as you call them,

00:10:35.120 getting the police to say, you've got to go now or we're arresting you with trespassing.

00:10:39.540 And I got the bum's rush to the parking lot.

00:10:42.400 You said, that's not how we roll at the Rebel.

00:10:45.500 We have a constitutional right to be in that public square.

00:10:48.700 And that's why we went back with added security, with a lawyer, with a copy of the Trespass Act.

00:10:53.500 And Ezra, quite frankly, I think that was your finest hour,

00:10:57.020 talking with those police and giving them, here are your three choices.

00:11:00.780 Yeah, well, and I had to mean it.

00:11:03.580 I mean, I had to actually start to walk.

00:11:06.880 I wanted to, you know, I mean, you might recall I said,

00:11:10.320 unless you have anything you want to say as a last moment thing, I'm going to go in now.

00:11:15.940 So I wanted them to have a chance to make any objection, to put anything to me in advance.

00:11:21.420 But I was going to go, and I had to be ready for that.

00:11:25.000 And I talked, we had that staff meeting in the morning with our lawyer, Aaron.

00:11:29.820 We went through the trespass laws.

00:11:34.900 Someone can eject you from their private property for any reason or no reason.

00:11:40.200 That's the old maxim, a man's home is his castle. 1.00

00:11:43.820 So you can kick someone off your property.

00:11:46.640 You don't even need a reason.

00:11:48.420 But on public property, you need a reason.

00:11:51.260 Because otherwise, I mean, that would be absurd if someone could kick you off the sidewalk,

00:11:55.080 kick you off the street.

00:11:56.600 What? No, this is common land.

00:12:00.460 And so the law is very specific.

00:12:02.060 You have to be doing something wrong.

00:12:04.280 And simply when the mall cops, the town hall security said,

00:12:08.540 get off, I'm saying you have to, so that's not the law.

00:12:12.900 And the police, who are the real muscle,

00:12:15.960 because those mall cops aren't actually going to do anything,

00:12:18.800 the police know the law enough.

00:12:20.760 Now, I don't blame the cop for trying to dissuade me.

00:12:25.480 It's easier for him.

00:12:27.240 There's less chance of a bad outcome.

00:12:29.560 And it is tough to be a cop these days when everyone's cell phone cameras

00:12:33.380 capturing your every move.

00:12:35.320 And if you have one false move, you're toast.

00:12:38.720 But things were so bad the day before we had to make the point.

00:12:42.500 And that's why, I mean, I usually hang out here at the office.

00:12:45.900 We've got a lot of stuff going on.

00:12:47.040 But I was really glad to get out there.

00:12:49.160 And I remember saying to some of my cameramen, Mocha and Efron, I said,

00:12:52.840 I don't want you guys to go to jail.

00:12:54.540 Someone's got to tell the story.

00:12:55.800 Someone's got to take the footage back and edit it.

00:12:58.260 But they were very brave, too.

00:12:59.560 I salute those youngsters for being very brave.

00:13:02.860 And Efron actually took a punch.

00:13:04.280 I think it hit his camera, not him.

00:13:05.860 But we haven't released this yet.

00:13:08.220 Maybe you should do a story on it.

00:13:09.920 Our lawyer wrote a letter to the police chief insisting that they press charges against the man who hit.

00:13:17.300 In fact, I'd invite you to take that lawyer's letter and do a video

00:13:20.440 because I don't think our people know about it yet.

00:13:23.440 I think that we should have had allies.

00:13:26.320 I think we should have had civil liberties lawyers.

00:13:28.340 I think we should have had journalist advocates.

00:13:31.400 There are groups in Canada, and almost all of them are based in Toronto.

00:13:35.720 Canadian Association of Journalists, Canadian Journalists for Free Expression,

00:13:38.920 Reporters Without Borders, Pan-Canada, Amnesty International.

00:13:43.500 All these groups claim to be for free speech, free press, and for journalists.

00:13:48.320 None of them even tweeted a tweet.

00:13:51.380 None of them... 0.52

00:13:52.340 And I contrast that with the ridiculous sanctity of,

00:13:58.340 oh, you can't even heckle a CBC reporter.

00:14:00.740 You know, there's a prank.

00:14:01.960 It's a rude prank.

00:14:02.980 It's profane.

00:14:04.700 People who see a reporter live shout, 0.68

00:14:07.900 F her right in the P! 1.00

00:14:09.560 Like swear words.

00:14:10.740 It's very profane.

00:14:11.940 It's a quick heckle.

00:14:12.940 There's no punching.

00:14:14.680 There's no assaulting.

00:14:15.660 There's no threat.

00:14:16.500 It's become this thing that typically drunk guys shout into a live camera and then run away.

00:14:23.900 It's a very strange phenomenon, and it's startling, and it's profane, and it's vulgar,

00:14:30.140 but it's actually not a crime to swear, and it's actually not a crime to heckle a journalist.

00:14:36.440 That happens.

00:14:37.740 That was sort of a fad for a while, and it's died down, but you still see the odd guy doing it.

00:14:43.020 And whenever it happens, the CBC does a whole story on it, and how, and the other journalists

00:14:51.800 are, are you okay?

00:14:53.280 Should we bring in the grief counselors? 0.98

00:14:55.620 And they call the cops, and sometimes the police say we'll arrest.

00:14:59.120 Sometimes the police actually arrest the guy.

00:15:00.880 There was a famous case of someone who worked for the Power Authority here in Toronto.

00:15:04.680 He was actually fired from his job.

00:15:06.940 And so the mainstream media has a five-alarm fire when someone swears.

00:15:13.160 It's not even swearing at them.

00:15:14.620 It's a vulgar, it's a vulgar heckle, and then they usually run. 0.98

00:15:19.740 That's a five-alarm fire for the media party, but our journalists actually getting roughed up,

00:15:24.800 City Hall security pushing our journalists out, cops giving us a 20-minute hassle.

00:15:28.800 That, not even a word.

00:15:31.480 You'll forgive me if I don't care about the F, her right, and the P, heckle, 0.99

00:15:35.940 when the same journalists couldn't care less about actual censorship.

00:15:40.680 And are we right-wing?

00:15:42.380 I don't care.

00:15:43.680 The Constitution, Section 2B, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, all those freedoms there,

00:15:49.640 they apply to any Canadian and every Canadian.

00:15:52.400 They even apply to people that the CBC doesn't like.

00:15:55.960 Well, Ezra, two things about what you just said.

00:15:58.580 I would bet you a donut that there are journalists at the CBC, the Toronto Star, the Globe and Mail,

00:16:04.040 that would actually applaud the idea of an Afro-Indigenous sacred circle, tent city.

00:16:10.200 So it's better to be silent than play our cards that, oh, this is a great thing that's happening.

00:16:15.760 Secondly, I mentioned off-camera, a week ago Friday, in Durham Region, here in Ontario,

00:16:20.780 there was a trial involving police brutality.

00:16:23.120 Desmond Cole, if you don't know that name, folks, he's a black activist and a failed journalist,

00:16:28.440 got up in the public square outside the courtroom to make a speech.

00:16:32.440 I don't know what the speech is because it was never recorded.

00:16:34.960 He said to all the journalists there,

00:16:37.640 turn off any and all recording devices, your cell phones, your cameras, your tape recorders, etc.

00:16:43.500 And they bent the knee, they complied.

00:16:47.360 Contrast that with what we did in standing up for our rights,

00:16:51.960 and I would argue for Canadians' rights at Nathan Phillips Square.

00:16:55.720 Yeah, we have a rule here, and you've heard me say it, and I say it to all the young journalists.

00:17:00.680 We keep the cameras rolling no matter what.

00:17:03.600 And if later on, when we're editing the footage, there's a reason we don't want to publish something,

00:17:09.280 there might even be a legal reason why not to, we'll make that decision ourselves.

00:17:14.440 We don't turn the camera off because someone says, turn the camera off.

00:17:18.860 And even if someone is getting pushy, in fact, that's when you want the camera on, it's evidence.

00:17:23.540 So some politician says, turn the camera off, and the media comply.

00:17:28.500 My immediate thought is, who else have you turned the camera off for?

00:17:32.660 What other censorship have you embraced so lovingly?

00:17:38.040 And if you'll do so for Desmond Cole, who I actually don't know much about, I've never met him,

00:17:43.440 what would you do for Justin Trudeau, who pays your company, you know,

00:17:47.940 he pays $600 million a year in bailout money.

00:17:50.420 So, if these journalists proudly censor themselves, because some yahoo says so,

00:17:57.260 who else are they bending the knee to? 0.97

00:17:59.940 And, you know, we talk about telling the other side of the story and being independent,

00:18:05.000 and, you know, we've said it a million times, but it really is true.

00:18:10.660 And I just don't trust the other media anymore.

00:18:15.880 Neither do I.

00:18:16.320 You know, I was joking with a friend of mine at the National Post.

00:18:18.640 I used to work there 20 years ago, so I still have some friends there.

00:18:22.120 And I showed him the video of when we went down to City Hall, we were talking about it.

00:18:27.920 And I joked with him, I said, if your National Post newsroom went down to City Hall,

00:18:33.460 they probably would have joined the protesters. 0.80

00:18:35.700 Because that's the National Post newsroom, 30 of whom signed a denunciation of Rex Murphy

00:18:41.720 because he was a white male.

00:18:43.260 Well, first of all, every one of them should be fired for being racist.

00:18:48.440 If you're denouncing a co-worker for his age and his race, that is, I mean, that's ageism, but that's racism. 0.84

00:18:56.920 If you're denouncing someone because they're black or Jewish or Sikh or Muslim or white, that's racism.

00:19:05.340 But on the contrary, Matt Gurney, the commentator, apologized for running the column and threw Rex under the bus. 0.53

00:19:12.060 And he should apologize for being a straight white male because that's the greatest outrage. 0.90

00:19:15.920 I mean, what a disgrace.

00:19:17.480 I worked at that newspaper more than 20 years ago.

00:19:19.560 And I can only imagine, it's unthinkable, but they're the number one recipient of Trudeau's bailout money.

00:19:31.080 I think they get, I'd have to check, $140,000 or $170,000 a week from Trudeau.

00:19:37.560 But it's bad hiring.

00:19:38.740 I mean, they hire people there who believe the Marxist, racist, critical theory of the universities.

00:19:45.740 And there's an old saying, personnel is policy.

00:19:48.480 When you hire someone, you're making a statement about who you are, too.

00:19:53.680 And the National Post, for years, has hired politically correct leftists.

00:19:59.360 And I get it. 0.99

00:20:00.000 They're just a content mill churning out crap these days, mainly. 0.96

00:20:03.680 Their stars are Rex Murphy, Conrad Black, I think Jordan Peterson is back. 0.97

00:20:08.220 But they've just got the same crappy millennial bloggers working for them that worked for Vice, that worked for the CBC. 1.00

00:20:14.660 In fact, a lot of the people who were signing this petition worked for Vice or the CBC or the Huffington Post just a few years ago.

00:20:19.920 Well, that paper isn't Conrad Black's National Post anymore, Ezra.

00:20:23.840 You know, so much to talk about, but we have to wrap it here.

00:20:26.420 I think your finest hour, our company's finest hour, last week at Nathan Phillips Square.

00:20:32.340 And folks, if you haven't seen the video, you must.

00:20:34.240 I know the year is only at the halfway mark.

00:20:37.140 So far, the quote of the year, I think, goes to Mr. Ezra Levin, when the police say we're going to have to negotiate with mall security to see what they feel about you coming on to the square.

00:20:48.340 And Ezra says, after you do that, give Colonel Sanders a call to him and see what he has to say.

00:20:55.140 He has just about as much authority in this matter as they do.

00:20:59.540 Oh, my God.

00:21:00.540 What a day that was.

00:21:02.040 Keep it here.

00:21:02.600 More of Rebel Roundup to come right after this.

00:21:10.220 Another year, friends and Christians continue to be the most persecuted religion on the face of the planet.

00:21:16.420 And while we like to think the second class citizen treatment is exclusive to the Middle East, parts of Africa and that evil empire of China, 0.99

00:21:25.320 that difference in treatment can still be seen in policing and media and political concern levels right here in North America.

00:21:34.340 Just look at this from Sudbury.com.

00:21:37.940 Eight religious statues depicting the stations of the cross at Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in downtown Sudbury have been beheaded.

00:21:48.160 Hang on for a second here, not just vandalized, beheaded.

00:21:51.380 Their heads were chopped off. 0.91

00:21:52.860 How do you even behead a statue?

00:21:54.240 That requires a lot of planning and forethought and some serious tools brought to the scene of the crime.

00:22:00.960 It hardly seems like a spur of the moment drunken prank to me.

00:22:04.140 It seems very premeditated.

00:22:06.420 Let's go on.

00:22:07.380 Those responsible for the vandalism, however, remain unknown.

00:22:10.960 And with no video surveillance of the area, no suspects and no witnesses,

00:22:15.540 it doesn't appear as though this fact will be changing anytime soon.

00:22:19.800 Vandalism of the four bronze statues, they were bronze,

00:22:23.760 at the property in the care of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie

00:22:27.340 is suspected to have occurred between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on May 22nd.

00:22:31.860 So, in broad daylight, said Staff Sergeant Sherry Young of the Greater Sudbury Police Service.

00:22:38.000 Should a suspect be identified, she said they would be charged with mischief

00:22:42.080 either above or below $5,000 depending on the value of the property.

00:22:47.660 Restitution would also be requested.

00:22:50.740 Oh, really?

00:22:51.320 So, it's not a religiously motivated hate crime, just some plain old mischief, hey?

00:22:56.280 Wonder why that is or why police are already making that determination

00:23:00.720 before they even have a suspect in custody.

00:23:03.920 So, when exactly is the vandalism of a statue a hate crime

00:23:08.240 and when is it just merely simple mischief?

00:23:11.720 Well, as you just saw, the authorities in Sudbury are treating the gruesome beheadings

00:23:16.120 of Catholic figures as, well, just a little mischief. 0.98

00:23:20.300 Boys will be boys. 0.98

00:23:21.460 And besides, those Catholics were probably white supremacists or something. 0.87

00:23:25.620 But contrast that to what happened in Vaughn last month 0.85

00:23:29.460 when someone in the wee hours of the morning visited the statue of Pierre Elliott Trudeau

00:23:34.360 and spray-painted the face black.

00:23:37.960 Hey, to me, that's kind of like art-resembling reality when it comes to the Trudeau clan.

00:23:43.420 Oh, but the York Regional Police, they were not amused.

00:23:46.360 The hate crime unit is already investigating.

00:23:50.080 Wow.

00:23:50.420 And with more on this tale of the truth and consequences inherent to statue vandalism

00:23:57.140 is Sheila Gunn-Reed.

00:23:58.920 Welcome to Rebel Roundup, my friend.

00:24:01.300 Hey, David.

00:24:01.800 Thanks for having me on the show.

00:24:02.880 It is always a super pleasure.

00:24:04.580 So, Sheila, you are a practicing Catholic yourself.

00:24:08.540 Yes.

00:24:08.680 How did you feel when you first heard about this story?

00:24:11.340 And how did you feel when you saw the milquetoast response to this story by those who are in charge?

00:24:20.140 It's, for me, it's, you see this constantly.

00:24:24.040 You see the different treatment when it comes to Christianity and oftentimes Judaism

00:24:30.100 versus other religions when it comes to these sorts of acts of vandalism.

00:24:35.780 And I would call this a hate crime.

00:24:37.300 You know, when we hear about a mosque being vandalized, the community rallies around the mosque

00:24:45.060 and it's signal boosted by the mainstream media.

00:24:48.940 And that's a good thing.

00:24:49.940 Don't get me wrong.

00:24:50.620 That's a good thing.

00:24:51.540 I believe in religious freedom.

00:24:53.860 I don't think that religious sites of any kind should ever be subject to vandalism.

00:24:58.120 It's one of the grossest things that can happen.

00:25:01.000 But we never see that when it comes to Christianity.

00:25:03.880 In fact, this happened over a month before the public knew about it.

00:25:10.100 It happened like in the beginning or sorry, in the end of May.

00:25:15.340 And the police had no suspects for four weeks.

00:25:19.780 It wasn't in the news for four weeks.

00:25:22.260 And only when the police did a press release saying, hey, we've got no suspects, but it's

00:25:28.540 probably just mischief, maybe over 5,000, maybe under 5,000.

00:25:32.600 Who knows?

00:25:33.620 No big deal.

00:25:34.420 But if you know something, let us know.

00:25:36.360 That's how the public found out about this.

00:25:38.340 And if this were another religion, I don't think the narrative would have been quite the

00:25:43.360 same.

00:25:43.980 And, you know, let's talk about that, Sheila, because I agree with you.

00:25:47.760 If that had been an individual, and from time to time, this kind of story pops up where

00:25:52.540 somebody tears up a Koran or burns it.

00:25:55.980 It is national news.

00:25:58.500 In the aftermath, they even have a little funeral for the defaced Koran. 0.98

00:26:03.720 And so that's a follow-up news story.

00:26:05.620 And there's outrage, and it's Islamophobia, and it's hatred towards Muslims.

00:26:10.440 And by the way, it's not something I would do.

00:26:12.060 I don't, I like creating things.

00:26:13.660 I don't like tearing things down and destroying things and carrying out acts of vandalism.

00:26:18.100 But why is it, Sheila, that we go to the extreme for that particular faith if, you know,

00:26:26.480 in the example I gave, a Koran is defaced, whereas these beautiful Catholic statues are

00:26:32.240 beheaded.

00:26:33.140 And it's like, hey, you know, things happen. 0.95

00:26:36.320 Move on.

00:26:36.760 Well, and it's very strange to see how when something happens to a mosque or when something

00:26:44.720 happens to a Koran, it becomes indicative of a greater, to use this word that is so popular

00:26:50.800 these days, systemic problem.

00:26:52.820 That this one incident of religiously motivated vandalism becomes a problem that we're all

00:27:02.740 guilty of, and that needs to be addressed.

00:27:05.220 And it becomes national news.

00:27:06.480 We just have to look at the hijab hoax to see how quickly, and that wasn't even an actual

00:27:11.860 hate crime.

00:27:12.620 A little girl said she had her hijab snipped on the way to school by a, quote, Asian man.

00:27:20.680 I think she meant Caucasian, but whoever coached her to commit the fake hate crime didn't really

00:27:25.820 make sure she had all the details clear, that prompted breathless articles, a tweet from

00:27:34.820 the prime minister.

00:27:35.700 It was indicative of a greater problem that Muslims suffer in our country when it wasn't 0.88

00:27:43.480 even true.

00:27:44.680 And, you know, when you can get a tweet from the prime minister because somebody snipped

00:27:49.700 at your hijab on the way to school, which didn't even happen, I would say things are pretty

00:27:55.320 good.

00:27:57.000 Whereas with this, eight statues, and these aren't just, like, concrete statues that,

00:28:03.400 you know, if you smashed them with a hammer, they'd crumble.

00:28:06.100 These were bronze statues.

00:28:08.580 So that requires some tools, some foresight, some planning.

00:28:12.860 They were beheaded in broad daylight, in the afternoon in Sudbury.

00:28:18.560 And it takes a month for us to find out about it.

00:28:21.960 And the police, they don't have a suspect yet, but they're sure this isn't a hate crime.

00:28:25.320 They don't know why anybody did this.

00:28:27.820 But they're 100% sure that they won't be proceeding with this as a hate crime.

00:28:33.260 I guess apropos of nothing except for the fact that this happened to Christians.

00:28:37.840 And, you know, Sheila, you said earlier that you have no doubt that this is likely a hate

00:28:43.500 crime.

00:28:44.100 I'm not so sure.

00:28:45.300 I don't know if these, you know, if these statues were desecrated by people who hate 1.00

00:28:50.860 Catholics or by garden-variety morons. 1.00

00:28:54.640 And I say that, Sheila, because if we look south of the border, in recent weeks we've seen 0.99

00:28:59.620 these Black Lives Matter protesters go on the offensive against statues.

00:29:05.800 But with the statues that are tearing down and desecrating and vandalizing, some of those

00:29:11.060 statues are statues about anti-slavery.

00:29:14.700 Some of the statues are statues honoring all-black military units that fought with valor. 1.00

00:29:21.580 What I'm saying is that there's a degree of stupidity, a degree of people that have no 0.99

00:29:29.780 knowledge of history, and that the statues are actually defacing is something that if 1.00

00:29:35.880 they knew the history of these statues, they should be supporting.

00:29:39.280 So what do you think?

00:29:40.560 Do you think these are truly Catholic haters out there? 1.00

00:29:44.540 Or, like I said, a bunch of idiots that simply don't know better and just want to behead 1.00

00:29:50.140 statues for the sake of beheading statues? 1.00

00:29:53.600 Normally, I would say don't attribute malice to something that can be explained with stupidity. 1.00

00:29:58.940 And that is so often the case with these rioters and BLM protesters in the United States. 0.99

00:30:04.920 As you rightly point out, they're pulling down things that are representative of great equal

00:30:11.480 rights achievements.

00:30:12.460 However, part of these protests do have a strong anti-Christian side to them.

00:30:22.200 When we look at what happened to the president's church across the street from the White House,

00:30:27.800 it was burned and then it was vandalized again just, you know, like a week and a half ago.

00:30:33.580 Nobody seems to care about that.

00:30:35.300 We've seen priests and street preachers being attacked by these people.

00:30:39.500 Cathedrals and churches in at least six states have not just incidentally been vandalized

00:30:49.320 by these people, but actually targeted attacks by the rioters and protesters.

00:30:56.460 So there's a strong underlying anti-Christian current in all of this and anti-Israel and anti-Judaism

00:31:06.440 current in a lot of this because we know a lot of the Black Lives Matter movement has a strong

00:31:13.600 anti-Semitic sentiment in it, as you found out when you made a trip to food benders.

00:31:19.960 So while I think there's a lot of anti-Christianity and anti-Judaism, that I think comes from a place

00:31:29.540 of pull down everything that built the society in which we live, tear it all down.

00:31:37.540 And we know that, you know, Western society is founded on Judeo-Christian principles.

00:31:42.420 So target those things, take them apart, erase them from history, and then you can rewrite history.

00:31:51.460 It's so sad, Sheila.

00:31:52.680 We've got to wrap it here.

00:31:53.680 I guess to paraphrase an Orwellian line from Animal Farm, all religions are created equal.

00:31:59.780 It's just that some religions are more equal than others in today's day and age.

00:32:04.520 Sheila, thanks so much.

00:32:05.680 And let's hope they find who is responsible for this, regardless of the motivation.

00:32:10.840 Someone should have to pay for that horrible crime.

00:32:14.360 Thanks again.

00:32:15.680 Thanks, David.

00:32:16.220 Have a great weekend.

00:32:17.100 You got it.

00:32:17.920 And that is Sheila Gunn-Reed somewhere in the northern hinterland of Alberta.

00:32:23.000 Keep it here, folks.

00:32:24.100 More of Rebel Roundup to come right after this.

00:32:30.980 We've got 15 people here today just to assist you doing a story.

00:32:36.320 So we're going to go into this camp now, and you're going to do a normal story.

00:32:40.400 What I'm going to be looking for, and so will our lawyer, is will John Tory's politicized police, who have ignored this illegal encampment, will they try to crack down on you, on me, on our professional licensed insured security?

00:32:58.880 If so, we have a serious problem.

00:33:02.540 Let's go to the front steps of City Hall, and let's let you do journalism.

00:33:09.380 We're going to be so compliant with the law.

00:33:11.360 We're going to be professional.

00:33:13.560 We're going to be lawful.

00:33:14.980 We're not going to cause a scene.

00:33:16.880 We're going to be so perfect in our conduct that the police will literally have no cause to eject us other than political bias.

00:33:26.380 We're controlling every other variable.

00:33:30.780 Any people here now?

00:33:35.380 All right, here they go.

00:33:37.400 Well, folks, we are at literally the scene of the crime.

00:33:40.820 This is the illegal encampment.

00:33:43.620 It's supposedly a circle.

00:33:45.400 It's not quite geometrically correct.

00:33:47.880 But this is where we were yesterday, and evidently there's a phony baloney rule that I think people and even media are allowed to be outside the circle, but we can't venture inside the circle.

00:34:02.760 Now, here come the umbrellas.

00:34:04.080 You can tell there's not a raindrop in the air today.

00:34:07.140 It's a nice sunny day in Toronto.

00:34:08.320 So this is going to be to attempt to block our cameras so, you know, we can't capture their crimes on video.

00:34:18.200 It's a typical Antifa 101 tactic in massaging the narrative to their liking.

00:34:25.620 Also, as you can see, as I alluded to earlier, we got a couple of porta-potties established by the city.

00:34:31.200 So not only are the police coming in and John Tory saying you cannot be here, it is illegal, they are making these squatters have a comfortable place to be.

00:34:44.660 It should also be noted that despite this illegal occupation, there is 0.0 police presence.

00:34:54.500 And then we have one solitary security guard there.

00:34:59.620 Notably, he is behind a steel wall of sorts, a temporary steel fencing.

00:35:06.420 Very funny that, isn't it, folks?

00:35:08.120 The left is typically against building walls so that a country can maintain its sovereignty in terms of illegal aliens coming to the country. 0.98

00:35:19.720 But when they are threatened at City Hall, walls are very effective indeed.

00:35:26.400 Now, as you can see off camera too, this is where they start shoving umbrellas and whatnot into our faces.

00:35:32.800 And they start complaining, don't touch me, and that this is an assault on them.

00:35:38.600 Here's this guy.

00:35:39.980 As you can see, I don't know what he's got.

00:35:43.240 They don't want free speech.

00:35:45.920 They don't want freedom of the press.

00:35:48.100 They don't want freedom of expression.

00:35:52.560 They want tyranny.

00:35:55.100 They...

00:35:55.500 Not to spread lies and...

00:35:57.440 Oh, is that right?

00:35:58.380 What's the truth, ma'am?

00:36:02.220 See, again, you ask them a question, and they can't answer it.

00:36:06.880 They respond with vulgarity.

00:36:08.900 A conversation when people are against you.

00:36:10.680 They don't want anyone to hear the true story.

00:36:12.060 Well, maybe, ma'am, if you put your umbrella down...

00:36:14.100 By the way, why is it that you people don't want your encampment filmed?

00:36:19.280 No, you people.

00:36:19.820 No, you people.

00:36:20.560 You people in the encampment, ma'am.

00:36:22.600 You people.

00:36:23.140 This is an occupation.

00:36:23.840 Who is you?

00:36:24.300 Oh, it's an occupation.

00:36:25.620 Okay, well, we're dealing with semantics right now.

00:36:27.760 You're on my land.

00:36:28.460 You're on my territories.

00:36:29.440 Who are you, colonizer?

00:36:30.360 Can I see a deed, please?

00:36:31.980 Pardon me?

00:36:32.560 Can I see the deed? 0.99

00:36:33.740 You don't need to see my f***ing deed. 0.98

00:36:35.280 Do you know what the history is? 0.99

00:36:36.840 Are you able to respond to a question without profanity?

00:36:39.720 Are these your lands?

00:36:41.120 Were you your original person of these lands?

00:36:43.920 Are these your lands?

00:36:45.160 Well, I believe this is a public square, ma'am.

00:36:47.240 Do you know that these are not your lands?

00:36:50.120 Does somebody come up into your home and take up your space?

00:36:52.960 Does somebody come into your home and they can dictate how you run your household?

00:36:56.360 So, what would you like?

00:36:58.220 What would you like us to do? 1.00

00:36:59.540 F*** off my land. 1.00

00:37:00.500 That's what I would like. 0.99

00:37:01.140 Well, folks, that is just a small snippet of what I believe to be the best video ever

00:37:06.240 produced in the five-year history of The Rebel, and it was an all-hands-on-deck effort.

00:37:12.380 I wish I could play the whole thing, but alas, it's 29 minutes long.

00:37:16.580 If you haven't already checked out the entire video, please do so.

00:37:20.520 In any event, that was the ugly scene that emerged last week when the violent degenerates

00:37:26.120 who have laid claim to Nathan Phillips Square decided not only to disrespect,

00:37:31.140 property rights by conducting an illegal occupation of the public square,

00:37:36.240 but they also decided to toss the Constitution into the paper shredder, too.

00:37:41.080 You know, that part about freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of expression.

00:37:45.760 But this is just one of the ugly byproducts of Mayor John Tory's so-called Sanctuary City, 0.90

00:37:51.740 wherein the rule of law is no longer consistently applied,

00:37:56.120 especially when it comes to those who are the takers and those who are the makers.

00:38:00.920 Welcome to Bizarro World.

00:38:03.060 In any event, you had plenty, and I mean plenty,

00:38:06.920 to say about this egregious and outrageous state of affairs at Hogtown City Hall,

00:38:11.840 so let's get to it.

00:38:13.620 Mike Bessio writes,

00:38:14.740 This is how Toronto Batman is born.

00:38:18.120 Holy pithy prose, Mike.

00:38:19.780 Indeed, if only Toronto had a Caped Crusader, just like the fictional Gotham City.

00:38:25.300 Because one thing is quite evident these days,

00:38:28.460 the inmates have breached the walls of Toronto's version of Arkham Asylum, 0.94

00:38:32.800 and worse yet, our elected officials are actually listening to these lunatics.

00:38:38.880 That's the real crime here, by the way. 0.95

00:38:40.920 The Sorrow writes,

00:38:43.700 Since when do police officers go and ask mall security guards for permission to enter a public park?

00:38:50.720 The world has gone crazy.

00:38:53.340 Since now, Sorrow, and the City Hall Security couldn't even recite the section of the Trespass Act

00:39:00.900 that we were allegedly breaching.

00:39:03.760 That's right. City Hall Security wanted to charge us for trespassing,

00:39:08.660 i.e. practicing journalism in the town square.

00:39:11.820 Whereas the squatters, who were camping overnight, doing drugs, urinating, defecating, you name it.

00:39:18.720 No, nothing to see here, folks.

00:39:20.620 The world has indeed gone crazy.

00:39:22.940 The question is, are we at peak nut bar yet?

00:39:27.440 Mel Moran writes,

00:39:28.500 I guess this is the new normal.

00:39:30.840 Lawlessness.

00:39:31.980 So sick of our politicians.

00:39:33.820 You know, you're right, Mel.

00:39:35.500 The politically correct mantra is keep the peace,

00:39:39.020 even if it means standing down to allow the criminal element to act in a way that is anything but peaceful.

00:39:47.260 Does that make any sense?

00:39:49.320 And I'm also sick of the likes of Mayor John Tory, too.

00:39:52.940 There's always been thugs and barbarians in the world, twas ever thus after all.

00:39:57.560 But when our gatekeepers throw the law book on the fire and tell law-abiding citizens to essentially fend for themselves,

00:40:06.200 that's the real crime here.

00:40:07.620 JCW669 writes,

00:40:11.840 So if people are peaceful protesting, they are allowed to assault people without any consequences?

00:40:19.240 Yes, that's right.

00:40:20.020 In Mayor John Tory, Toronto, and in Mayor Jenny Durkan, Seattle, that is indeed the so-called new normal, my friend.

00:40:28.460 Bigelow Tech writes,

00:40:30.120 Interesting how love and diversity is enforced through violence and racism.

00:40:34.520 What a magnificent observation, Bigelow Tech.

00:40:38.700 And only the protesters are blind to the sheer irony of it all.

00:40:43.600 And Ken Shabu Q writes,

00:40:46.460 Wild savages.

00:40:47.980 Johnson, get me my hunting rifle.

00:40:50.980 Um, sorry, Mr. Q, you didn't hear?

00:40:53.900 Justin Trudeau recently made your hunting rifle illegal via an ordering council.

00:40:59.640 Maybe you ought to buy a slingshot for protection.

00:41:02.720 Well, you still can.

00:41:03.840 Well, that wraps up another edition of Rebel Roundup.

00:41:07.040 Thanks so much for joining us.

00:41:08.280 See you next week.

00:41:09.380 And hey folks, never forget,

00:41:11.020 without risk, there can be no glory.

00:41:13.500 Good night.

00:41:13.980 Good night.

00:41:14.660 Good night.

00:41:17.560 Good night.

00:41:29.320 Good night.

00:41:29.840 Good night.

00:41:29.980 Good night.

00:41:30.520 Good night.

00:41:32.120 Good night.

00:41:33.220 Good night.

00:41:33.840 You
