00:02:27.600 It's really, I tried.

00:02:30.260 One of the things I really wanted to do

00:02:31.980 was capture this story to get into the hands

00:02:35.380 of Canadians who supported the convoy,

00:02:37.440 but not just them.

00:02:38.820 Also, I'm hoping that people

00:02:41.200 that didn't support the convoy

00:02:43.480 would read this book and say,

00:02:46.280 that's not what I thought that this convoy was about.

00:02:49.600 Like that has, that's literally not the same

00:02:52.340 as the narrative that people were consuming

00:02:54.640 in the mainstream media.

00:02:56.520 And so it's a book for all audiences.

00:03:03.100 but I will say it is a very in-depth look

00:03:35.680 because I wasn't sure that it was my story to tell.

00:03:45.380 said, yeah, go ahead and do it.

00:03:48.400 I didn't want someone to think that,

00:03:53.740 about something that belonged to all Canadians.

00:03:56.200 But I got the buy-in from,

00:04:36.800 Second thing is I wanted to show all of the warts

00:04:42.880 but I still wanted to be respectful.

00:04:47.580 about division and vilification of other people.

00:04:51.340 You know, not everybody liked me behind the scenes

00:04:55.860 and I wasn't happy with everybody else either,

00:06:03.880 What we were trying to do,

00:06:05.240 what was sort of the intent of that document?

00:06:07.880 I spent a lot of time talking about

00:06:10.440 my personal desire

00:06:13.080 in my attempt to influence everybody

00:06:16.000 to get as many vehicles up

00:06:17.580 onto Wellington as possible.

00:06:19.420 And it turns out that that later

00:06:21.180 became a very controversial issue.

00:06:24.420 So I spent a lot of time

00:06:25.960 talking about what my thinking was

00:06:27.920 and why I was trying to influence

00:06:31.740 So there's a lot of stuff in there

00:06:35.480 to be controversial amongst the supporters

00:06:55.160 you know, other organizers of the convoy

00:06:56.920 and tried to create this awful narrative.

00:06:59.580 And, you know, I also spent a lot of time

00:07:01.980 talking about the MOU.

00:07:03.720 Because I think it's an important chapter

00:07:10.120 what the intent of that MOU actually was.

00:07:12.600 Now, I didn't draft the MOU.

00:07:14.260 I wasn't part of it.

00:07:15.340 I didn't submit it.

00:07:18.160 But over 300,000 Canadians

00:07:20.020 did sign that as a petition

00:07:21.920 and wanted that presented

00:07:24.760 to the Governor General of Canada.

00:07:27.480 So there was a lot of support for the MOU.

00:07:30.500 because people have described the MOU,

00:07:34.180 so the Memorandum of Understanding,

00:07:36.400 from convoy supporters.

00:07:39.400 I don't think it was from the convoy directly

00:07:41.480 as a manifesto to overthrow the government.

00:07:46.620 by in the media and by the liberals.

00:07:49.600 Although I think I always say,

00:07:51.200 I think I'm repeating myself

00:07:53.380 between those two parties.

00:07:55.520 But why don't we stop right there

00:07:57.360 and just explain what was going on

00:08:00.080 with, as you say, the MOU,

00:08:02.140 the Memorandum of Understanding.

00:08:04.300 Yeah, so it's important for people

00:08:05.880 to understand that Canada Unity,

00:08:08.140 which was an organization,

00:08:10.060 James Botter's the one who called me

00:08:11.720 and got me to the convoy.

00:08:13.260 But I didn't know who James was

00:08:14.800 when he called me the morning

00:08:15.960 I actually went to the convoy.

00:08:18.400 No involvement in Canada Unity.

00:08:20.780 But Canada Unity had been working

00:08:22.540 on this Memorandum of Understanding

00:08:24.740 for at least six months

00:08:26.120 prior to the convoy.

00:08:28.420 And it was something that they sent

00:08:31.440 registered mail to the Governor General

00:08:34.520 and to various departments

00:08:35.880 within the federal government.

00:08:37.880 So it had sort of a clear objective

00:08:42.340 to get the Governor General

00:08:45.220 to exercise what Canada Unity believed

00:08:48.720 was within her power to exercise.

00:08:50.820 So it's not like they were trying

00:08:53.440 to create a new body of law

00:08:57.280 or a new mechanism.

00:08:58.240 They were asking for the Governor General

00:09:00.240 to do what they believed

00:09:02.400 was an actual mechanism

00:09:05.900 And if you read through the document,

00:09:08.020 there's no or else.

00:09:15.220 And there's one little tiny sentence

00:09:53.820 Did the mainstream media pick up on that point?

00:09:56.140 It's like, well, how did you give it to –

00:09:59.260 Oh, you mean you didn't storm the front gate

00:10:06.060 at Parliament Hill and, you know, demand?

00:10:11.120 Well, so, you know, that's an important chapter

00:10:14.180 because I never felt like the candidate unity

00:10:19.100 and the drafters of the MOU

00:10:20.560 got a fair shake in the media

00:10:23.520 And I wasn't involved with it.

00:10:26.020 What I – the reason it came onto my radar

00:10:28.660 was because after it blew up in the media,

00:10:32.160 I had a difficult conversation

00:10:34.260 with one of the drafters of the document.

00:10:36.540 And I don't know that it was my influence,

00:10:40.680 but I think he was getting the same pushback

00:10:44.580 from a lot of people at the same time.

00:10:48.220 But they retracted it.

00:10:49.740 Like, they made a public statement

00:10:51.000 basically retracting the MOU.

00:10:53.360 And that's something that was never also put out

00:10:55.780 in the legacy media.

00:10:57.460 You know, it was this big manifesto, as you said,

00:11:00.120 but I think it was a disgustingly unfair indictment

00:11:06.340 and the political opportunists

00:11:17.620 which was the majority of the things

00:11:21.200 were all just ridiculous accusations.

00:11:24.180 So, you know, it was just unfair.

00:11:30.100 And I felt that Canada Unity deserved

00:11:33.860 to get something in writing

00:11:36.160 to discuss their side of the issue.

00:11:39.300 Now, I never interviewed anybody

00:11:41.640 from Canada Unity for the book

00:11:43.380 because I was looking at it from my own lens

00:11:47.240 because it came up

00:11:53.020 Like, I wasn't going to write about the commission.

00:11:56.760 I wasn't going to do that,

00:11:58.080 but because I was there for seven and a half weeks,

00:12:03.540 So I delayed the launch of the book

00:12:04.920 because I realized I need to bring in

00:12:09.340 a lot of the testimony that we heard

00:12:11.560 at the Public Order Emergency Commission.

00:12:14.280 I didn't think the book would be as good

00:12:53.700 And I'm absolutely disgusted by the outcome.

00:13:04.460 and all the agreement that he got

00:13:06.680 from law enforcement and government.

00:13:08.320 But in the end, Injustice Rouleau

00:13:10.940 ruled that the government

00:13:12.700 was completely justified

00:13:14.420 in invoking the Emergencies Act.

00:13:17.360 So, you know,

00:13:19.020 I touched on a lot of different things

00:13:20.940 and I probably could have doubled

00:13:22.520 the size of this book,

00:13:23.740 but I'd be 60 by the time I published it.

00:13:26.320 So I kept it down to 50 years old
