Tonight, Justin Trudeau's ambassador to China switches sides and starts making China's case
00:00:05.820
against Donald Trump. It's January 23rd, and this is The Ezra LeVant Show.
00:00:12.040
Why should others go to jail when you're a biggest carbon consumer I know?
00:00:15.860
There's 8,500 customers here, and you won't give them an answer.
00:00:19.920
The only thing I have to say to the government about why I publish it is because it's my
00:00:31.000
Shocking news, but not surprising, John McCallum, Canada's ambassador to China, has publicly
00:00:37.020
weighed into the legal case to extradite Meng Wanzhou, a Chinese business tycoon who was
00:00:43.080
arrested in Vancouver for allegedly violating U.S. sanctions against Iran.
00:00:47.720
And McCallum has weighed in on her side, specifically criticizing U.S. President Donald Trump.
00:00:55.180
I'll show you the video in about 30 seconds, but just a quick reminder.
00:00:58.540
Okay, Meng is the CFO, the chief financial officer of Huawei, one of the largest tech
00:01:06.540
They've also been accused by many Western governments of using their phone equipment
00:01:10.380
to spy on people who use that phone equipment, which is why Huawei is banned from installing
00:01:16.580
next-generation 5G phone systems in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, places like that.
00:01:21.260
Meng also happens to be the founder's daughter of the company.
00:01:24.380
So she's rich, she's powerful, she's connected, and she's wanted for various crimes in the
00:01:30.100
I don't know how the U.S. has jurisdiction over a Chinese citizen doing business in Iran.
00:01:39.760
So she's in Vancouver, one of the world's most livable cities, which also has a large
00:01:45.480
So although her freedom and perhaps her dignity have been limited, she's still living the high
00:01:52.520
Compare that to what China has done in retribution to Canada for making this arrest.
00:01:57.080
China has seized at least 13 Canadian citizens who were in China as obvious retribution.
00:02:05.620
They've also taken a Canadian who was convicted of selling drugs there, and I'm not supporting
00:02:11.620
They opened up his case again, retried him again in one single day, and sentenced him
00:02:17.280
to death as opposed to the prison term he had already been received.
00:02:20.600
So that's just plain murdering a guy as retaliation.
00:02:27.660
Their ambassador actually accused this whole thing of being some white supremacist scheme,
00:02:34.460
So at the very least, I would say it behooves us to let the courts deal with Meng and that
00:02:41.320
our diplomatic officers, including our ambassador to China, our foreign minister, our prime
00:02:44.980
minister, ought to be fighting to get the remaining Canadians held hostage in China released.
00:02:49.160
And I'm not a fan of drug dealers, but if a guy was already sentenced to prison and serving
00:02:53.400
that prison sentence, and then you suddenly declare that he's going to be executed, that's
00:02:59.100
You can't let a foreign country literally kill a Canadian as a diplomatic move.
00:03:05.460
Look at what our ambassador to China said today at a press conference in Markham, Ontario.
00:03:12.680
But funny enough, a press conference to which no mainstream media were invited, just Chinese
00:03:19.380
I think she has quite good arguments on her side.
00:03:23.760
One, political involvement by comments from Donald Trump in her case.
00:03:29.140
Two, there's an extraterritorial aspect to her case.
00:03:37.140
And three, there's the issue of Iran sanctions, which are involved in her case, and Canada does
00:03:47.200
So I think she has some strong arguments that she can make before a judge.
00:03:55.060
So you have Justin Trudeau's hand-picked ambassador to China.
00:04:02.320
So he's not some neutral civil servant, career diplomat.
00:04:05.280
And this was obviously a planned, scripted press conference.
00:04:07.800
And you saw those Chinese-language media that you saw, the little microphone flashes, all Chinese
00:04:12.620
media, and the one that said CCTV, that's the state broadcaster in China.
00:04:22.320
He says twice in 30 seconds that she has a really good case.
00:04:26.420
And any judge who wants to be elevated to, say, the Supreme Court or the Court of Appeal
00:04:30.440
had better please Justin Trudeau's man on this one, wink, wink.
00:04:34.680
Since when do senior politicians tell judges what to do, without even hearing the evidence
00:04:43.220
But even if the trial had been done, since when does a politician tell the courts what's
00:04:48.680
I mean, that's how they do it in China, of course.
00:04:51.260
And come to think of it, that's the kind of waste-no-time-with-democracy style that Justin
00:04:59.120
There's a level of admiration I actually have for China.
00:05:03.420
Because their basic dictatorship is allowing them to actually turn their economy around
00:05:13.180
Here, watch that clip of McCallum just one more time.
00:05:19.920
I think she has quite good arguments on her side.
00:05:24.780
One, political involvement by comments from Donald Trump in her case.
00:05:30.900
Two, there's an extraterritorial aspect to her case.
00:05:37.880
And three, there's the issue of Iran sanctions, which are involved in her case.
00:05:44.400
And Canada does not sign on to these Iran sanctions.
00:05:48.440
So I think she has some strong arguments that she can make before a judge.
00:05:53.220
He specifically says that Donald Trump is wrong, and she's right.
00:06:01.260
Oh, and he disparages Trump's sanctions against Iran, or at least disavows them.
00:06:07.020
John McCallum has not only taken the side of this accused criminal against the United States,
00:06:15.240
But we have the courts, and that's where these things are supposed to be resolved.
00:06:18.060
But no, he has made up his mind, based on whatever political briefing notes he has,
00:06:22.280
that she's right, she has a strong case, she should probably be let go.
00:06:26.060
If you have a strong case, that means you should be let go.
00:06:27.980
And Trump is wrong, wrong on China, wrong on Iran, and he doesn't mind saying so in public,
00:06:33.580
McCallum, for the delight of the Chinese language media.
00:06:44.940
Just a few weeks ago, Chrystia Freeland was begging Donald Trump's cabinet for help on this case.
00:06:52.280
The extradition process is a criminal justice process.
00:06:56.780
This is not a tool that should be used for politicized ends.
00:07:00.940
I can't say much about the process, because we have a U.S. judicial process that is underway,
00:07:08.140
The unlawful detention of two Canadian citizens is unacceptable.
00:07:13.460
The United States has stood for that, whether they are our citizens or citizens of other countries.
00:07:17.720
We ask all nations of the world to treat other citizens properly, and the detention of these two Canadian citizens in China ought to end.
00:07:28.700
And Chrystia Freeland was asking for his help because she knows that the Chinese laugh at Trudeau.
00:07:38.040
A couple years ago, she was actually part of the joke, too.
00:07:41.240
We're quite proud the prime minister has been given a fond nickname in China, which he is called Pudou, which I believe means potato.
00:07:53.280
And he is, I can't say the Chinese, but it's sian, Pudou, little potato, because his father, Pierre Elliott, Pudou, was senior potato.
00:08:13.260
So she's begging Pompeo for help just weeks ago, and then she's bashing Pompeo's boss, saying he's wrong?
00:08:21.280
Gee, I wonder if the U.S. State Department will notice this.
00:08:25.060
I wonder if their embassy in Canada will notice.
00:08:28.300
And do you think this will make them more or less likely to actually help?
00:08:33.080
Maybe if Krista Freeland or John McCallum wear another one of her bizarre T-shirts, bad-mouthing Trump, I don't know.
00:08:40.920
Just thinking, what would the world's best diplomat do?
00:08:43.900
I note that Markham's ethnic demographics, according to the 2016 census, are 45% Chinese.
00:08:56.780
So this is probably an election move also, I guess, to shore up the Chinese vote for Justin Trudeau,
00:09:03.300
especially after they just kicked out Karen Wang as their candidate in Burnaby last week.
00:09:09.360
But one thing I do know, John McCallum is not on our side anymore.
00:09:16.920
I don't think he ever really was on our side to be candid.
00:09:19.820
But remember when he announced Canada's negotiation strategy for a proposed Canada-China trade deal?
00:09:27.360
Within 24 hours of arriving in China, I was invited to present my credentials to President Xi Jinping.
00:09:34.980
And I conveyed to him a message from our prime minister that can be summarized in three words.
00:09:42.940
Yeah, you don't announce in advance in public that you will give everything to the Chinese side
00:10:02.600
Let me read to you a headline from 15 years ago.
00:10:08.640
John McCallum builds links with Chinese conglomerate by Jeffrey York.
00:10:13.940
Less than two months after stepping down as prime minister,
00:10:16.860
John McCallum is moving quickly to forge a relationship with China's wealthiest and most powerful business conglomerate.
00:10:23.180
Making a surprisingly speedy entrance onto the global business stage,
00:10:28.080
Mr. McCallum will arrive in China this weekend with a team of Power Corp executives
00:10:32.780
to meet some of China's most influential business leaders.
00:10:40.640
Five weeks after Khrushen stepped down as prime minister, five weeks,
00:10:47.380
he was already a senior lobbyist working with the Chinese government.
00:10:51.700
Do you really think that was only all set up after he left office?
00:11:00.300
He runs the family businesses, that Power Corp they mentioned.
00:11:02.980
And massive billion-dollar investments in China.
00:11:09.100
Do you doubt that when he retires as Canada's ambassador to China,
00:11:12.500
that John McCallum will immediately get a huge lobbying consulting gig with China, in China, for China?
00:11:22.140
And that video of him at the press conference today was his audition tape.
00:11:27.860
Justin Trudeau was asked about this bizarre statement by McCallum today.
00:11:31.700
Do you agree with your ambassador to China that Ms. Meng has a strong case against extradition?
00:11:38.040
We have always highlighted that Canada is a country of the rule of law,
00:11:42.200
and we will make sure that the rule of law is properly and fully followed.
00:11:47.360
That, of course, includes the opportunity for her to mount a strong defense.
00:11:53.960
That is part of our justice system, and we are going to apply that justice system in its integrity,
00:12:00.880
as all Canadians and, indeed, as people around the world expect us to do as a country.
00:12:08.100
We will stay grounded in that at the same time as we advocate and engage in serious efforts
00:12:16.040
to support the Canadians who have been arbitrarily detained in China.
00:12:21.500
So do you agree that she does have a strong case?
00:12:23.780
I think part of the strength of our justice system is people get to mount their own defense,
00:12:33.280
We will ensure, as a government and as a country,
00:12:36.640
that all the rules and the independence of our justice system is properly defended and properly supported.
00:12:46.500
Your hand-picked ambassador specifically, deliberately, forcefully did weigh into the courts.
00:12:53.300
He ended their independence, and Trudeau didn't disown it.
00:13:05.040
He knows that China laughs at the little potato.
00:13:20.300
Too bad, really, because an ambassador who is loyal to Canada
00:13:23.120
would probably have used the opportunity to go to bat for our hostages still held in Chinese prisons,
00:13:28.240
not for Chinese Communist Party elites still living the high life in Vancouver.
00:13:40.380
Do you feel from this experience that you owe anybody an apology?
00:14:00.440
As far as standing there, I had every right to do so.
00:14:06.400
My position is that I was not disrespectful to Mr. Phillips.
00:14:15.300
I mean, in hindsight, I wish we could have walked away and avoided the whole thing.
00:14:20.580
But I can't say that I'm sorry for listening to him and standing there.
00:14:25.180
A disgraceful question by NBC put to a teenage boy from Kentucky
00:14:30.000
who was waiting around at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington,
00:14:33.200
waiting for a bus to take him back to Kentucky from the March for Life
00:14:36.100
when he was accosted first by a gang, and I'm going to call them a gang,
00:14:40.320
of so-called black Israelites, a bizarre sect that shouted racial abuse at the boys.
00:14:48.180
They responded by having upbeat, positive school chants,
00:14:54.220
at which time an Indian activist going by the name Nathan Phillips walked right up to them
00:15:00.060
and started banging a drum inches away from that boy, Nick Sandman's face.
00:15:07.240
As you can see, that young boy didn't flinch, was not aggressive, did not raise his hands,
00:15:13.800
He just smiled and he later said, was praying that things would work out right.
00:15:20.260
And the disgrace of NBC saying, will you not apologize?
00:15:25.060
Do you not have anything to say about being at fault?
00:15:29.020
Shows that the media is not done demonizing this boy.
00:15:36.280
is the first reporter to call BS on this official media narrative,
00:15:41.360
of the narrative that Nathan Phillips, the drummer, was somehow the victim,
00:15:44.820
and that this boy who stood silently was somehow the aggressor.
00:15:49.100
I'm talking about our friend Cassandra Fairbanks, a reporter for the Gateway Pundit,
00:15:57.260
I think you were really the one who first said, this is fake news.
00:16:08.620
The first, when this first came out, people were jumping down my throat.
00:16:12.620
They were so angry because I was a little hard on the Native American far left activist.
00:16:19.840
But it turned out I was right and they were wrong.
00:16:26.080
Yeah, there were so many elements of fake news in it.
00:16:29.520
I mean, one of the early versions of the video that was circulated, the sound was off.
00:16:34.080
So the allegation that the boys were taunting the man couldn't be instantly disproven.
00:16:40.620
Then a video of the Indian activist saying he was taunted with Build That Wall
00:16:46.840
was proved false when the audio was finally released.
00:16:55.720
That Native American whose real name is not Nathan Phillips, by the way,
00:17:00.860
He never served in Vietnam and he's a perpetual liar about it.
00:17:15.740
Everyone else was saying, yikes, it looks real.
00:17:18.740
And I don't want to speak against the tide because I don't want someone to call me racist.
00:17:22.320
How did you know in your bones this whole thing was a hoax?
00:17:26.180
Well, I'm a mom and apparently it seems that a lot of these liberal journalists and celebrities
00:17:33.200
who immediately jumped on bashing these kids have never been around teenage boys.
00:17:38.780
The fact of the matter is, when kids are uncomfortable, they do awkward things.
00:17:50.140
Like when an adult confronts a younger child or a teenager, they freeze up.
00:18:04.140
And so I was immediately angry at this man who was confronting and harassing these children
00:18:15.600
Like, why is an adult man confronting these children?
00:18:20.840
On yesterday's show, I played about four minutes worth of the drumming in his face.
00:18:25.580
I sped it up because just to sit and watch that for four minutes would be too much.
00:18:31.180
It was still excruciating watching this man, 64-year-old man, pound a drum in the face
00:18:38.640
of a, I mean, he's 16, so he's not a child of tender years.
00:18:42.340
I would not have had the patience and self-control to take that kind of physical invasion of space
00:18:50.580
I don't have, that child, that 16-year-old boy, and even in that interview with NBC, showed
00:18:55.960
more restraint than I certainly would have, Cassandra.
00:19:01.740
Right now, there's a GoFundMe that is raised, I haven't even looked at it today, but last
00:19:07.480
They want 100% of the money to go to Students for Life.
00:19:11.080
These kids, they were in town protesting on behalf of unborn babies.
00:19:17.940
And as Nick said, he was standing in silent prayer, hoping that by being calm, he would
00:19:24.140
What they did was more adult than how any adult that I know would have handled this at
00:19:37.300
And I want to tell you the most disappointing part of this whole thing in my mind.
00:19:41.040
The media, the fake news media, as Donald Trump calls them, they lived down to their
00:19:47.480
These professional activists, you know, in one case the trickery was exposed, but 48 hours
00:19:54.720
To me, the great disappointment, Cassandra, was the school, the Catholic school, Covenant
00:20:00.780
Catholic in Kentucky, that immediately, without doing any due diligence, without finding the
00:20:09.720
When you go to their website, it jumped up at you, a pop-up ad where they condemned these
00:20:17.380
kids, said it tainted their whole trip, and threw them under the bus in such a disloyal
00:20:25.840
And this is a Catholic school that was so immoral in my mind.
00:20:32.140
I was angry at the media, angry at this provocateur, but I was disgusted and furious with their own
00:20:41.360
I know you've been in touch with some of the parents of the kids.
00:20:43.600
What's the latest on the bad behavior from their Catholic school?
00:20:48.540
Yes, I've been in contact, constant contact, with a couple of the mothers.
00:20:53.880
One of them, especially me and her, hit it off very well.
00:20:58.080
But if you go on Gateway Pundit, I have an interview up that I did with them over the weekend.
00:21:04.320
They are more upset with the bishop and the school than they are with pretty much anything
00:21:11.120
One of the mothers said to me, these boys have been victimized twice.
00:21:15.820
First, they were victimized, well, three times, because first they were victimized by these
00:21:23.000
And then they were victimized by their own school in the diocese.
00:21:30.180
You know, President Trump, and I'm talking about him again, but he was the proximate,
00:21:36.660
he was what sparked the lighting of the fuse here, because those Make America Great Again
00:21:45.220
Trump has said that he wants to host these kids in the White House.
00:21:50.780
I think that's great, and I think that will help redeem them.
00:21:57.220
He says it was very unpleasant, but it might end up in a dream that this might turn, something
00:22:02.380
I thought Trump was actually very grown up, too, if I can use that phrase.
00:22:06.900
But I see one of your stories, and you've published at least 20 stories in the last three
00:22:14.960
Well, listen, let me just read this headline here from one of your latest pieces.
00:22:20.580
Covington Catholic bishop and school administration who threw the kids under the bus, now barring
00:22:26.260
them from speaking to media to defend themselves.
00:22:28.820
I'll just read the first sentence of your story, and then you can tell us a bit more about this,
00:22:33.460
The bishop and school administration of Covington Catholic that immediately threw these kids
00:22:36.860
under the bus without full information has now told students they cannot speak to the
00:22:41.680
Neither the diocese or school has apologized to the kids for believing leftist activist
00:22:46.320
Nathan Phillips and the liberal media as they smeared the students, both even apologized on
00:22:51.220
their behalf and have not yet retracted it, even though the original narrative has been
00:22:56.800
So I've spoke to some of the mothers about everything that's been going on, and they've
00:23:02.180
made the great point that these kids have been victimized three times.
00:23:06.840
First, they were victimized by the protesters and the adults who were bullying them in Washington,
00:23:11.880
Then they were victimized by the media, and then they were victimized by their own school
00:23:15.740
and their bishop in the diocese who threw them under the bus without even getting the
00:23:21.820
full story or attempting to get the full story.
00:23:29.640
And now these poor kids who have been thrown under the bus by their school, who are supposed
00:23:33.760
to protect them, can't even go defend themselves.
00:23:38.020
I want to show you one last thing, Cassandra, because I think the, you know, I said that
00:23:43.440
the school's reaction was the most disheartening to me.
00:23:46.200
But let me show you a tweet by a new congresswoman from Minnesota, a Democrat, the first Somali Muslim
00:23:59.220
She said, the boys were protesting a woman's right to choose and yelled, it's not rape if
00:24:07.940
They were taunting five black men before they surrounded Phillips and led racist chants.
00:24:16.840
They didn't surround Phillips and they didn't lead racist chants.
00:24:19.080
Sandman's family hired a right-wing PR firm to write his non-apology.
00:24:28.820
After a day of this tweet being up, she finally took it down.
00:24:36.720
Does it make sense for these kids or their families to sue anyone for these smears?
00:24:50.180
When I saw that tweet last night, my blood was on fire.
00:24:53.480
First of all, she is calling these men who, the black Israelites, who were calling these
00:25:00.360
kids sexist, I mean, homophobic slurs, racist slurs, and calling them future school shooters.
00:25:11.260
And she has the audacity to say that they were taunting them.
00:25:19.340
Second, I hope that Nick's PR guy is right-wing because obviously the left can't be trusted
00:25:27.420
And then regarding lawsuits, Robert Barnes is representing multiple families.
00:25:36.500
And they've compiled a huge list of verified accounts, representatives, media outlets, and
00:25:44.720
So if they don't retract and apologize by Friday, then they're potentially going to be named in
00:25:50.640
And I'm sure that her name is going to be at the top of the list.
00:25:57.360
But if you say, if you smear a national and international, we're in Canada, obviously,
00:26:03.260
in international news, if you say that a young man had Nazi racist taunts surrounded and bullied
00:26:11.880
and shouted at an Aboriginal man, and if that yields directly death threats to the boy, yeah,
00:26:18.700
that's pretty much actionable anywhere in the world, including in the home of the First
00:26:28.200
We actually set precedent for this case with my case.
00:26:31.820
I ended up suing a reporter who had accused me of making a white supremacist hand gesture
00:26:37.900
We had done the OK sign, which everybody was doing just as a way to show that we support
00:26:41.720
Trump because he does it when he's giving a speech often.
00:26:44.040
And I had sued her, but the judge decided that, well, what she said was illegal libel because
00:26:51.380
you can't accuse people of being racist if they're not.
00:26:55.580
I failed my case because I was a public figure and we couldn't prove actual malice.
00:27:00.580
In the kid's case, because they're not public figures, you do not have to prove actual malice.
00:27:06.620
You only have to prove that they didn't do due diligence and that or that they were sloppy,
00:27:19.400
And Barnes, the lawyer who's representing the family has actually represented me in this
00:27:26.840
Well, we'll have to keep in touch with him once that deadline passes.
00:27:29.660
Cassandra, we lost the video feed from you via Skype, but we continued our conversation
00:27:33.560
on audio and we showed some of the infuriating clips from that day in Washington.
00:27:38.880
I want to salute you for being the first journalist to push back on this and the best journalist.
00:27:44.780
You have two dozen stories on this and I would encourage all of our readers, if they haven't
00:27:48.720
already, to go to thegatewaypundit.com where you're just on fire on this stuff.
00:27:58.160
Our friend Cassandra Fairbanks, I should remind you that she was one of the four independent
00:28:02.440
journalists that traveled all the way to London to report on Tommy Robinson's trial
00:28:23.260
On my monologue yesterday, Mark writes, hey, Victoria, I get a climate change charge on
00:28:35.260
It's so gross to me that I was reading about it.
00:28:38.180
I don't want to gross you out, especially if you're eating or something.
00:28:40.300
I was reading, all they do is like they like have a very like a grill just to strain out
00:28:57.240
Well, listen, San Francisco is a toxic dump too.
00:28:59.980
Jerry writes, nice piece on Victoria and the sewage pipeline they love.
00:29:04.740
You forgot to mention the 13 kilometer pipeline from Washington State through Richmond to Vancouver
00:29:09.280
Airport that was approved because Vancouver International couldn't run out of jet fuel.
00:29:18.460
Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline that exists comes right.
00:29:21.380
Being there, I've seen it with my eyes, comes right out where this old Chevron refinery
00:29:28.540
And, you know, I'd like to see Vancouver go without gasoline for 12 hours.
00:29:37.300
Can they not use their cars or their planes for one day?
00:29:43.460
On my interview with Pardes Saleh, Wendy writes,
00:29:47.100
the left needs to learn that children are off limits when it comes to their grubby politics.
00:29:50.840
Yeah, I mean, 16 year old, I mean, you saw a clip of the boy today, 16 years old is still
00:29:59.520
The national media not only criticized them, but called for violence against them.
00:30:05.320
First of all, they just called him a Nazi, which is so atrocious.
00:30:09.000
Frankly, when you're calling that kid a Nazi, that's a form of Holocaust revisionism.
00:30:29.040
And I'm not even going to make a drunk joke because I don't, I think he was stone cold
00:30:34.680
I think he was as sober as, I don't know, a sober person.
00:30:41.040
I think that was a scripted plan press conference with Chinese language media.
00:30:44.760
And you saw the Chinese state broadcaster microphone right in the middle.
00:30:50.920
And I bet you a dollar that Jean Chrétien had his hand in it, too.
00:30:56.420
All right, folks, until tomorrow, on behalf of all of us here at Rebel World Headquarters,
00:31:01.660
I will have some more news for you about the elections commissioner in Alberta tomorrow.
00:31:08.420
Until then, good night and keep fighting for freedom.
