Summary

Block busting is a term that originated in the 1950s where vulture real estate agents looked for white neighborhoods on the edge of the Black Belt color line. In the good old days, many whites would only sell to other whites. Then came the devious, politically and financially motivated white brokers who would bust the white neighborhood by buying properties from white owners and then selling them to blacks with the intent of breaking down the rest of the neighborhood in the same way.
