00:00:00.000 We're living in a time when lies are really easy and the truth is costly.
00:00:04.280 And nowhere is that more devastating than in the battle for life that rages through this country every day.
00:00:09.520 That's exactly what Natalia faced.
00:00:11.360 Her first reaction to her pregnancy was abortion because that's the lie she was told.
00:00:16.540 But once she heard the heartbeat of her child, she knew that God wanted her to have her baby and that all things would be possible through him.
00:00:24.360 Natalia chose life.
00:00:25.480 She was provided with the love, support, and the resources she needed.
00:00:28.780 At Preborn Network Clinics, this happens on average 200 times a day across the country because of support from people like you.
00:00:36.460 Moms who are overwhelmed and pressured suddenly see their child, hear the truth, and realize that they're not alone.
00:00:41.680 That moment of truth costs only $28.
00:00:44.540 That's what it costs to sponsor an ultrasound.
00:00:46.460 An ultrasound doubles a baby's chance at life.
00:00:49.360 This is not the time for silence.
00:00:50.980 Give now, dial pound 250, and say the keyword baby.
00:00:53.600 That's pound 250, baby.

00:01:53.320 Hey guys, welcome to Relatable.
00:02:03.680 Happy Wednesday.
00:02:05.020 Hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far.
00:02:07.720 Today, we are going to talk about Halloween.
00:02:10.060 This is a question that I get all the time, every year.
00:02:13.280 How should Christians think about Halloween?
00:02:15.160 There are a lot of competing opinions and narratives about whether Halloween is a pagan ritual
00:02:22.100 that Christians should have no part of, or if there is a way to redeem Halloween, or is
00:02:29.400 Halloween actually Christian in origin?
00:02:32.060 And we have talked about this, I think, every year probably that Relatable has been around.
00:02:37.400 It was last year, I believe, that we talked to the guys from Cultish, and they study this
00:02:43.420 kind of thing, talk about it a lot.
00:02:45.240 And so we talked about these different competing narratives, and I just want to give you a summary
00:02:50.160 of not only the history of Halloween, but also my perspective on it and what the Bible
00:02:56.060 says about it.
00:02:56.960 Also, we're going to talk about satanic ritual abuse, how Satanists view this day, and how
00:03:02.680 this might inform the Christian perspective on Halloween.
00:03:05.860 So let me play you some of the conversations going on on TikTok, some opinions that are
00:03:11.500 out there that might have even informed your opinion on Halloween.
00:03:15.340 Here's top one.
00:03:16.560 Don't stop supporting Halloween.
00:03:18.400 Like, I shouldn't even have to say this as a Christian or a follower of Christ, but that
00:03:23.260 just shows how many people are not in their word and can't recognize witchcraft for what
00:03:27.380 it is.
00:03:28.000 So I challenge you guys to get in your word and ask the Lord to reveal to you what Halloween
00:03:32.980 truly is and how it's demonic, because y'all see these angels of death and all these skeletons
00:03:37.500 and all this, and y'all just think it's for fall.
00:03:39.840 That's not, no, fall is pumpkins and leaves, and no, that's not fall.
00:03:46.400 It's witchcraft.
00:03:48.000 Well, she's absolutely right that the Bible prohibits witchcraft.
00:03:51.480 I've actually talked to people who identify as Christians who tell me that they can be a
00:03:55.480 Christian witch.
00:03:56.980 Well, that's like saying you can be a Christian atheist.
00:03:59.320 Practicing witchcraft and sorcery was punishable by death in the Old Testament, and that's
00:04:04.840 not to say that we have to have the same punishment today here in the United States, but Jesus Christ
00:04:10.260 is the same yesterday, today, and forever, Hebrews 13, 8.
00:04:13.460 So how God felt about sin in the Old Testament is the same way that he feels about sin today,
00:04:19.520 and the severity of trying to channel power through demonic forces and through the dead,
00:04:28.440 using mediums to communicate to the dead.
00:04:32.240 God still prohibits that for Christians today.
00:04:34.800 That is a form of idolatry, and it is massing with a very real power that we don't want to
00:04:40.280 mess with today.
00:04:41.280 So I agree with her that Christians should have nothing to do with witchcraft.
00:04:44.760 I agree with a lot of what she says there, that Deuteronomy passage that you saw there
00:04:48.800 on the screen, if you're watching this, references the evils of witchcraft and that kind of demonic
00:04:55.720 activity.
00:04:58.060 However, the debate still stands of whether Halloween always and perpetually represents
00:05:04.480 those things and whether or not Christians can play any part in it at all.
00:05:09.320 Here is another TikToker articulating this position, Sot2.
00:05:13.000 I don't know why people still celebrate Halloween.
00:05:15.840 It's widely known that it has demonic origins.
00:05:18.280 Why are you dressing your little children up as demons and devils and thinking that's
00:05:21.920 okay?
00:05:22.680 Then on top of that, you teach children in schools to stay away from strangers who try
00:05:26.280 to give you candy.
00:05:27.260 But on Halloween, you let them go door to door to strangers' house to get candy.
00:05:30.980 You are confusing your kids.
00:05:32.880 Honestly, we should throw away the concept of Halloween.
00:05:35.520 Nothing about it is holy, and nothing about it is meant for children.
00:05:38.240 Don't blame me.
00:05:39.080 It's science.
00:05:39.540 So on that confusion piece, because I think that's a fair thing to explore, we've got another
00:05:45.300 mom who is like, you know, I think that this kind of gives conflicting messages to our kids,
00:05:50.080 and this probably represents maybe what a lot of you feel.
00:05:53.300 Sot3.
00:05:53.620 All right, I think I'm finally on board with thinking Halloween is demonic, and we're done
00:06:00.860 celebrating.
00:06:02.560 After enough prayer and research, and I've heard enough, okay, we're not celebrating, okay?
00:06:10.400 That being said, I do feel like there is a place for like, trunk or treats, or like, letting
00:06:18.880 them dress up, or have treats, but for fun, I don't, I don't know what that looks like yet.
00:06:29.020 But I feel like there's a place probably for something like that.
00:06:32.460 I'm sure that that is how a lot of you feel, and I think that that is kind of a fair feeling
00:06:39.100 to have, that tension of, I want my kids to be able to have fun, but I don't want to
00:06:43.300 celebrate a day that is demonic.
00:06:45.480 So here's the question.
00:06:47.040 Is Halloween demonic?
00:06:48.240 Does it have exclusively pagan and demonic origins?
00:06:52.140 So as I said, there are varying narratives and opinions on this.
00:06:55.460 I thought Desiring God, John Piper's ministry did a good job of summarizing what is believed
00:07:01.580 to be the history of Halloween.
00:07:04.120 So here's what this article says.
00:07:05.800 The origin of Halloween is a bit murky, but it likely has its oldest roots in ancient pagan
00:07:10.800 Celtic festival of Samhain.
00:07:12.820 So that's spelled Samhain, but in Celtic, it's pronounced Samhain when the Celts of Ireland,
00:07:18.460 Britain, and Northern France celebrated the end of harvest at the beginning of their new
00:07:22.400 year on November 1st.
00:07:24.120 They believed that on the last night of the year, of their harvest year, October 31st,
00:07:29.820 the spirits of the dead would haunt the living.
00:07:32.200 So they would leave food and wine on their doorsteps to appease and ward off spirits.
00:07:36.940 If they had to leave the house, they would wear masks to fool the ghouls.
00:07:41.040 In the 9th century, Pope Gregory moved All Saints Day, this was a Catholic holiday, from May 13th
00:07:48.160 to November 1st.
00:07:49.600 We don't know why, but it is believed that maybe his purpose was to subsume the Celts'
00:07:55.600 Samhain festival.
00:07:57.740 And this, of course, it's believed that it succeeded in doing that.
00:08:02.920 In the Middle Ages, vigils were commonly held the night before high church feast days.
00:08:07.220 So it was natural that one be held on the eve of All Saints Day, which would be, of course,
00:08:12.800 October 31st.
00:08:14.000 And this became known as All Hallows' Eve.
00:08:17.520 Hallowsis or hellosis in Old English.
00:08:20.780 That is the Old English word for saints.
00:08:24.180 Or as the Scots pronounced it, Halloween.
00:08:26.880 So young people dressed up in costumes for fun on Halloween that emerged in the 16th century
00:08:33.280 Britain.
00:08:33.980 That was also called guising, kind of like disguising.
00:08:38.920 These, it says this article said, these fun lovers would go house to house singing, reciting
00:08:43.560 poems or telling jokes in exchange for treats.
00:08:46.720 The tradition of trick or treating, as we know it, began essentially as a revival of guising
00:08:51.780 among Irish and Scottish immigrants in late 19th century North America and was fully embraced
00:08:57.520 by American pop culture by the end of 1940s.
00:09:01.020 So it's actually like pretty recent that we have been celebrating Halloween in this way.
00:09:05.540 So from this perspective of the origins of Halloween, how we practice Halloween today is certainly
00:09:11.140 a convergence of the ancient Catholic, or not ancient, but I guess you could call it ancient
00:09:18.960 many centuries ago, the Catholic practice of holding vigils and going house to house and
00:09:25.460 the pagan practice of putting treats out on your front porch to ward off spirits.
00:09:31.640 And then it has, of course, evolved into what it is today.
00:09:34.660 And we'll look at the modern revolution or evolution rather in just a second.
00:09:38.900 Let me pause and remind you that if you did not make it to share the arrows, or even if you

00:10:14.860 That's the beautiful part of having this on demand.
00:10:17.340 So go to blazetv.com slash Allie.
00:10:20.080 That is available today.
00:10:21.660 It was supposed to be available Monday, but then our server was down and so we weren't

00:10:28.640 Watch Share the Arrows today.
00:10:30.320 Also, let me tell you about WeHeart Nutrition, just one of my favorite sponsors because they're
00:10:34.900 one of my favorite companies, period.
00:10:36.900 They are Christian, family-owned, pro-life, and they make amazing supplements for women.
00:10:42.460 I use all of their supplements.
00:10:44.100 I use their iron supplement.
00:10:46.120 I use their multivitamin, their omega-3s, their magnesium, and it has really helped my
00:10:52.340 hair, skin, and nails.
00:10:53.400 It has helped me remain healthy.
00:10:54.920 I just had a huge blood panel done and everything was looking so good.
00:10:59.800 And I was really excited about that, especially my iron levels, because I've traditionally been
00:11:04.360 anemic and they're looking good.
00:11:06.320 And that's because all of their products come in the most bioavailable form.
00:11:10.860 So their ingredients are actually things that your body can absorb rather than the fake
00:11:17.680 synthetic stuff that you get in most supplements that your body is just going to use as waste.
00:11:22.620 You don't want to spend all of that money if your supplements aren't going to help you.
00:11:26.640 So instead, go with WeHeart Nutrition.
00:11:28.900 They donate a percentage of every sale to pro-life pregnancy centers.
00:11:32.360 It really is just a win all around.
00:11:34.420 Go to WeHeartNutrition.com.
00:11:35.980 Use code Allie for 20% off your order.
00:11:38.640 That's WeHeartNutrition.com, code Allie.
00:11:47.060 So there is a kind of like a modernization of Halloween that has happened over the past
00:11:55.440 couple centuries.
00:11:56.920 And it varies a little bit depending on what continent you're on.
00:12:02.200 But if you look at, for example, early 16th century Britain, there was a practice known
00:12:07.200 as souling, which was kind of a medieval tradition where poor people and later children went door
00:12:13.000 to door on All Saints Day begging for soul cakes in exchange for praying for the souls
00:12:17.920 of their deceased relatives that they believed were stuck in purgatory.
00:12:23.840 And so there's been like a lot of superstition and a lot of varying beliefs that have been
00:12:29.360 intertwined with Halloween over the years.
00:12:33.200 You have some sources saying that Halloween in the U.S. traces back to something called
00:12:38.280 Guy Fawkes Day, November 5th, imported by immigrants celebrating the 1500s gunpowder plot with bonfires,
00:12:45.740 masks, pranks that blended with arriving, souling and guising customs that we already talked about.
00:12:52.180 By mid-century, so this is the, you know, the kind of the 1940s that we talked about, 1950s,
00:12:59.060 Halloween in America became this like wholesome Norman Rockwell style kids holiday.
00:13:05.320 For example, we know the classic cartoon, it's the great pumpkin Charlie Brown.
00:13:10.600 And then, of course, America's love for capitalism kind of amplified the commercialization
00:13:17.260 of Halloween, the entertainment attached to it.
00:13:20.940 And then, of course, the selling of candy.
00:13:23.340 And we love any good reason to have fun and celebrate.
00:13:26.980 But certainly over the past several decades, it has become darker and darker.
00:13:30.980 As evil and horror movies, they make a lot of money.
00:13:35.000 And people have really kind of adopted this like personality, I think, of trying to be as scary
00:13:41.960 and haunting as possible.
00:13:43.720 There's also kind of like a sexualization that has been intertwined with Halloween, it seems,
00:13:50.100 over the years.
00:13:50.960 Certainly the sexual revolutions of the 60s and the 70s, the new sexual revolution of the
00:13:59.080 of the probably, I would say, 2010s until now, there has been an increased intertwining of
00:14:06.820 not just very like promiscuous promoting costumes, but there's also an aspect of gender bending,
00:14:15.660 an aspect of subversion of gender norms.
00:14:18.680 There is, I would say, a big intertwining of pride and LGBTQ pride with Halloween as, again,
00:14:28.720 people are kind of pushing back against sexual norms through their costumes and through their
00:14:34.500 celebrations.
00:14:36.080 And so it does seem that Halloween is particularly vulnerable to the societal sins of the day
00:14:43.860 and like the spiritual state of the day.
00:14:46.940 It just kind of takes on the form of society's ills and those end up being amplified and celebrated.
00:14:54.440 There is also this aspect of true Satanism, which really does exist, and there's not really
00:15:01.560 one definition of what Satanism means, but it does exist today.
00:15:05.860 It's existed in many forms for at least decades, if not centuries.
00:15:10.240 Of course, witchcraft has existed for many millennia.
00:15:14.720 But this Satanism as an organized religion, it looks like, I guess you could say, just a
00:15:23.660 group of people who they might actually worship Satan as a deity.
00:15:30.480 They might worship multiple pagan gods, or they might be atheists who just like to be a part
00:15:37.540 of something or who believe in whatever values Satanism has.
00:15:42.200 They might be witches, they might be Wiccan people.
00:15:45.160 I think it describes people with all kinds of anti-God, anti-truth, anti-goodness, anti-love
00:15:52.460 ideas that, again, want to be part of something kind of coherent.
00:15:57.320 And there is such thing as satanic rituals.
00:16:00.200 There is such thing as satanic ritual abuse.
00:16:02.640 In fact, you should go back and you should watch my episode with Jack Marino, and we will
00:16:08.700 put the link in the description so you can go back and watch that.
00:16:12.300 With the rise of the New Age movement and the commercialization of things like psychics
00:16:18.560 and mediums, tarot cards, all of that.
00:16:22.920 And by commercialization, I mean people like Taylor Swift making light of that, glorifying
00:16:27.580 that, singing about some of that kind of stuff.
00:16:30.160 We have seen a desensitization to the evils of that kind of sorcery, and that has real not
00:16:37.420 only spiritual and mental and emotional consequences, but physical consequences, as we saw with the
00:16:43.060 testimony of Jack Marino.
00:16:44.460 And it was amazing.
00:16:45.280 Christ rescued her so dramatically out of that.
00:16:48.340 But we need to understand that Halloween can actually amplify some of the psychiatric disturbances
00:16:57.580 of people who were either victims of satanic ritual abuse or who were just traumatized by
00:17:04.340 the fear and the just depravity that some people like to showcase on Halloween.
00:17:13.260 And I found this article from 1991.
00:17:15.860 This is a Washington Post article about psychiatrists observing their patients with multiple personality
00:17:22.420 disorder on Halloween specifically.
00:17:25.740 Okay, so here's what the article says.
00:17:27.780 Patients with multiple personality disorder, MPD, exhibit bizarre behavior in which personalities
00:17:33.440 with distinct histories and voices called alters emerge from a host personality under
00:17:39.580 the influence of severe stresses.
00:17:41.300 The illness is believed to arise most often as a defense against child abuse that is typically
00:17:47.200 sexual and physically painful.
00:17:49.260 So this is not typically something that someone is born with.
00:17:52.920 This is a defense mechanism that the mind is using to try to forget about the trauma of
00:17:59.260 being abused as a child.
00:18:00.280 So very, very sad.
00:18:01.840 The article goes on to explain the victim often develops an alter that is immune to pain, which
00:18:06.920 emerges under such circumstances, affording the host a form of protection.
00:18:10.740 MPD is part of the family of dissociative disorders, which PTSD of which PTSD is seen in many combat
00:18:18.220 veterans is the most notable example of the 12 patients in the hospital today.
00:18:23.480 This article says this is according to Bruce Leonard, a psychiatrist who treats child abuse
00:18:29.480 victims in the Columbine Psychiatric Center.
00:18:31.740 He says all of the 12 patients in the hospital today, six are having trouble with memories
00:18:35.900 related to Halloween.
00:18:37.720 He added that a former patient was flying to Colorado from her home in Michigan yesterday
00:18:41.920 to spend Halloween in the hospital.
00:18:44.060 Although she has had problems around Halloween before in recent weeks, she has been physically
00:18:48.040 threatening her psychiatrist in Michigan as they get closer and closer to Halloween.
00:18:53.680 Bennett G. Braun, another psychiatrist in this particular field at Rush North Shore Medical
00:18:59.900 Center outside Chicago, said patients become increasingly suicidal, increasingly agitated.
00:19:06.060 We're in the phase for it right now as they approach Halloween.
00:19:09.560 Five of his hospitalized patients are reliving Halloween trauma.
00:19:13.220 He is keeping another patient with a history of satanic cult abuse in the hospital until the
00:19:17.580 holiday is over.
00:19:19.360 Braun said that he also hospitalized a patient this week.
00:19:22.960 Of course, this is back in 1991, largely as as a preventive measure.
00:19:27.920 A middle-aged woman who claims childhood participation in rights involving human sacrifice last year,
00:19:34.140 last year she attempted, I think I might have left out a word when I copy and pasted this,
00:19:40.120 but last year attempted suicide on Halloween.
00:19:43.420 He said about 20% of MPD patients, this article says, claimed that their childhood abuse involved
00:19:50.880 organized satanic rights.
00:19:52.720 Although few psychiatrists treating these patients today deny their patients have a history of
00:19:57.820 child abuse, there's great debate about whether the satanic event actually occurred or are fantasy
00:20:03.320 grafted onto recollections of more conventional abuse.
00:20:06.520 So we don't actually know if this, if they actually endured satanic ritual abuse or if it
00:20:12.580 had something directly to do with Halloween, although some of them seem to be able to cite specifically
00:20:17.880 what happened to them on Halloween or if this is a symptom of their psychiatric problems.
00:20:24.140 But I think it's an interesting phenomenon.
00:20:26.520 And I do think that we should give more weight to presenting very scary, gruesome, morbid things
00:20:35.540 to children before they have the ability to be able to understand it.
00:20:40.000 I think we need to understand that their brains are extremely malleable, that they can be very
00:20:46.500 affected by things.
00:20:47.720 And I'm not saying that seeing a skeleton is going to make them land in a psychiatric hospital,
00:20:52.980 but I simply don't think it's funny.
00:20:55.920 And I don't think it's lighthearted to scare children and to present them with things that
00:21:01.100 celebrate death and darkness and fear.
00:21:04.680 I do think that you are setting them up for some kind of trauma, and I don't think that
00:21:10.720 you're making them tougher.
00:21:12.020 I don't think you're making them immune to fear.
00:21:15.060 I actually think that you are building a paranoia and anxiety in them from an early age.
00:21:20.700 And I think we do need to take that seriously, like no matter what your view is on Halloween,
00:21:27.420 we need to take that really seriously.
00:21:29.380 I saw a couple of years ago, we were trick-or-treating and, well, I kind of just gave away how I feel
00:21:34.960 about that, but we'll talk about that more in a second.
00:21:38.300 But we avoid all the houses with the scary stuff.
00:21:44.280 And I saw at one house, there was like this teenager and he was in a coffin and he was
00:21:49.540 popping out of the coffin and scaring the little kids that were coming to the front door.
00:21:54.140 And I saw that happen and I literally said something to the person that opened the door
00:22:00.060 because this teenager pops out, he's dressed up all scary and he's in this coffin.
00:22:05.620 And this little three-year-old boy dressed up in his little PAW Patrol costume starts
00:22:10.760 screaming, crying, and they're laughing.
00:22:13.340 And I'm like, dude, that's not cool.
00:22:15.100 That's all he said.
00:22:15.760 I said, that's not cool because it's not.
00:22:17.480 But also it's the parent's responsibility to protect your kids from that kind of evil.
00:22:21.460 I'm just saying it has a real effect.
00:22:22.940 All right, we've got more to say about this.
00:22:24.740 Let me pause, tell you about our next sponsor, and that is Good Ranchers.
00:22:28.760 So thankful for Good Ranchers.
00:22:30.600 You need to start thinking about Thanksgiving, what you're going to feed your family.
00:22:35.080 It is quintessential American to make sure that on Thanksgiving, such an American holiday,
00:22:41.880 you have American meat on your table.
00:22:44.580 We don't need to be supporting other countries' cheap meat that's imported from who knows where.
00:22:49.400 You need to be supporting a company that puts American industry first.
00:22:55.780 And that's what you get from Good Ranchers.
00:22:57.380 All of their seafood, all of their steak, all of their beef, all of their chicken, all of their bacon,
00:23:02.340 all of it comes from an American farm or ranch.
00:23:06.040 We love their chicken nuggets.
00:23:07.320 We love their bacon.
00:23:08.400 We use their ground beef every day.
00:23:10.480 It is all so good.
00:23:11.940 This is a Christian family-owned company that loves America, wants to glorify God in what they do.
00:23:17.500 And this makes your life easier.
00:23:19.080 Getting that box of meat to your front door every month is amazing.
00:23:22.940 It also saves you money, saves you time, and makes sure that you are supporting the country
00:23:27.660 that God placed you in.

00:23:36.760 So this is a former satanic priest talking about the demonic reverence for the day that
00:23:48.620 he used to have when he was in satanism, Sot6.
00:23:51.400 Halloween is the highest day on the satanic calendar.
00:23:55.540 It is also the night of the year where there is the most human sacrifice on the whole planet.
00:24:02.900 If we look at it in a, let's call it the popular culture aspect first,
00:24:08.520 many people think Halloween is about candy and it's about dress up,
00:24:12.460 but they don't question the meaning behind it.
00:24:15.180 In a neighborhood or an area, there's houses, there's homes that celebrate Halloween.
00:24:21.480 That whole perimeter becomes one big satanic ritual for that whole neighborhood.
00:24:28.100 Okay, so I appreciate his perspective and obviously he has a personal experience on that,
00:24:37.000 but I just want to give us the Christian perspective on all of that.
00:24:40.560 Because while I obviously believe that evil is real, that satanic power is real,
00:24:46.520 Ephesians 2 calls Satan the prince of the power of the air,
00:24:49.940 the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience,
00:24:53.620 among whom we all once walked according to the passions of our flesh and were by nature children of wrath.
00:24:59.100 So that exists. That is happening right now.
00:25:01.320 There is a domain of darkness that exists.
00:25:03.900 Ephesians 6 tells us that there is a spiritual war waging right now in every moment
00:25:09.240 that is not primarily political or cultural, but is spiritual.
00:25:13.600 There are evil spiritual principalities at work and we should acknowledge that
00:25:20.020 and we shouldn't minimize that at all.
00:25:21.580 But I also kind of want to push back against this idea that as Christians,
00:25:27.120 we are inviting Satan into our neighborhoods or into our homes or into our children's lives
00:25:34.640 by living next to someone that celebrates Halloween or decorates for Halloween,
00:25:41.200 giving our children candy,
00:25:45.860 or allowing them to walk by any kind of Halloween decoration.
00:25:52.280 And I'm not even saying that that's exactly what that guy was saying in that particular video,
00:25:56.920 although I do think there are some implications of that there.
00:26:00.380 But I have seen that before.
00:26:02.500 I have seen different content creators saying that by participating in any kind of celebration on this day,
00:26:11.240 you are inviting the demonic into your life.
00:26:13.900 And I just want to encourage you that as a Christian, you are protected from that.
00:26:19.900 That you cannot be possessed by a demon.
00:26:23.140 That demons are not going to come into your home.
00:26:26.360 That you don't have to sprinkle holy water or anoint your house with oil
00:26:30.780 in order to protect yourself from demonic activity.
00:26:34.000 Because you as a Christian have the Holy Spirit living in you.
00:26:38.940 And I just want to read you this.
00:26:40.620 Galatians 3, 13 through 14.
00:26:42.820 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.
00:26:46.920 For it is written,
00:26:47.580 Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree so that in Christ Jesus,
00:26:51.680 the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles
00:26:54.180 so that we might receive the promised spirit through faith.
00:26:58.200 And so that curse of darkness, that curse of sin was laid upon Jesus
00:27:03.320 and we can trust that if by grace through faith,
00:27:08.120 we have been saved in Christ, that we are protected from that curse,
00:27:12.120 that we are indwelled with the Holy Spirit.
00:27:14.580 Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit
00:27:17.540 and we have the power of God within us
00:27:20.920 and we are protected from that darkness.
00:27:23.200 Colossians 1, 13 through 14.
00:27:25.300 He has delivered us.
00:27:27.060 This is Jesus.
00:27:27.860 Has delivered us from the domain of darkness
00:27:29.840 and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved son
00:27:33.580 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
00:27:37.800 So we are in the kingdom right now, not in a future time,
00:27:41.900 but we are in the kingdom of his beloved son.
00:27:44.180 That doesn't mean there is no effect of sin in our lives.
00:27:46.840 That doesn't mean we don't live in a fallen world.
00:27:48.700 That doesn't mean that we don't get sick.
00:27:49.960 That doesn't mean that we don't sin ourselves.
00:27:51.400 Doesn't mean that nothing bad can happen to us.
00:27:54.320 But spiritually, we are protected by Christ.
00:27:57.120 1 John 1, 7.
00:27:59.060 But if we walk in the light as he is in the light,
00:28:01.300 we have fellowship with one another
00:28:02.820 and the blood of Jesus, his son, cleanses us from all sin.
00:28:06.620 So we are cleansed and we are protected.
00:28:11.020 And also, again, James 5,
00:28:13.220 the prayer of a righteous person has great power
00:28:15.940 as it is working.
00:28:17.540 And we cannot assign too much power
00:28:20.800 and too much authority to the demonic realm
00:28:24.160 and to material objects.
00:28:26.820 I think that there is a lot of superstition,
00:28:29.460 even among Christians,
00:28:30.780 surrounding Halloween
00:28:33.280 and surrounding all sorts of material objects.
00:28:36.960 And the irony is,
00:28:38.340 I actually do think that there is
00:28:40.320 a witchcraft-esque mentality
00:28:44.140 among a lot of Christians
00:28:45.800 when it comes to the rituals
00:28:47.900 that they try to employ
00:28:49.680 to protect themselves
00:28:51.180 from the evils of Halloween
00:28:52.520 and the evils of demonic activity.
00:28:54.480 We should be able to discern
00:28:57.320 between light and darkness,
00:28:58.980 evil and goodness,
00:28:59.820 and also understand that we as Christians
00:29:02.380 who are indwelled by the Holy Spirit
00:29:04.220 are protected, okay?
00:29:06.620 And that we walk in victory
00:29:09.220 and in strength with Christ
00:29:11.180 because we have been saved.
00:29:13.540 And we just don't need to assign
00:29:15.680 too much meaning
00:29:17.640 and too much power to the demonic,
00:29:19.500 even as we recognize that it is real.
00:29:22.340 So, how do we, in my opinion,
00:29:27.200 approach Halloween?
00:29:28.680 So, the first thing I would say
00:29:31.100 is that we take no part
00:29:34.100 in the unfruitful works of darkness,
00:29:36.760 but we instead expose them.
00:29:40.420 Ephesians 5, 7.
00:29:41.840 Therefore, do not become partners with them,
00:29:45.280 the sons of disobedience,
00:29:46.760 as verse 6 says,
00:29:48.040 for at one time you were darkness,
00:29:49.800 but now you are light in the Lord.
00:29:51.800 Walk as children of light,
00:29:53.260 for the fruit of light is found
00:29:54.880 in all that is good and right and true,
00:29:57.000 and try to discern
00:29:58.080 what is pleasing to the Lord.
00:30:00.120 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness,
00:30:02.500 but instead expose them,
00:30:03.800 for it is shameful even to speak
00:30:05.320 of the things they do in secret.
00:30:08.000 And then the rest of the chapter is great too.
00:30:10.400 You should continue to read it.
00:30:11.800 One part says,
00:30:12.460 look carefully then how you walk,
00:30:14.160 not as unwise, but as wise,
00:30:15.660 making the best use of the time
00:30:17.400 because the days are evil.
00:30:19.680 Therefore, do not be foolish,
00:30:20.680 but understand what the will of the Lord is.
00:30:24.420 Don't take part in debauchery.
00:30:26.660 Be filled with the Holy Spirit,
00:30:28.700 making melody to the Lord in your heart.
00:30:31.120 Philippians 4 talks about dwelling on only that
00:30:34.080 which is worthy of praise,
00:30:36.120 only that which is righteous and good
00:30:38.640 and holy and lovely
00:30:40.380 and reminds you of Christ.
00:30:41.920 So I think that no matter
00:30:43.560 where you land on Halloween,
00:30:45.120 this is true,
00:30:46.320 not only on October 31st,
00:30:48.360 but on every single day,
00:30:51.060 that we are to take no part
00:30:53.320 in the unfruitful works of darkness.
00:30:55.840 We should not glorify evil.
00:30:57.820 We should not be entertained by evil.
00:30:59.980 We should not allow our children
00:31:01.560 to be entertained by evil.
00:31:03.480 So our children,
00:31:05.600 they have seen the Halloween decorations
00:31:09.120 in different parts of our neighborhood
00:31:12.080 and they have started
00:31:14.480 some really good conversations.
00:31:16.480 At least our older two are at the age
00:31:18.620 where we can have those conversations
00:31:20.240 and they're asking,
00:31:21.320 why does this person have a fake cemetery?
00:31:23.860 Why does this person have
00:31:25.460 like a stabbed zombie in their yard?
00:31:28.900 Why do some people have skeletons?
00:31:30.460 Why do we not do those things?
00:31:32.040 And we get to have the opportunity
00:31:34.280 to say, we don't celebrate death.
00:31:36.840 We don't celebrate darkness.
00:31:38.520 We don't celebrate people getting hurt.
00:31:40.780 We don't celebrate dying.
00:31:43.680 We want love and we want light
00:31:46.040 and we want goodness.
00:31:47.400 And our oldest is asked,
00:31:48.660 do those people not know God?
00:31:50.800 And we don't necessarily know the answer
00:31:54.000 to what is going on
00:31:55.160 in the hearts of people
00:31:56.200 that are celebrating that kind of morbidity,
00:31:59.140 but we can pray for them
00:32:00.900 and we can talk about
00:32:02.160 why we as Christians live differently
00:32:05.300 and why we don't glorify that kind of evil.
00:32:09.080 Deuteronomy 18, 10 through 12 says,
00:32:11.140 there shall not be found among you
00:32:12.300 anyone who burns his son
00:32:13.440 or his daughter as an offering,
00:32:15.100 anyone who practices divination
00:32:16.740 or tells fortunes
00:32:17.700 or interprets omens.
00:32:19.400 So divination,
00:32:20.500 like going to psychics,
00:32:22.060 was put on the same level
00:32:23.340 as burning your child
00:32:24.640 at a child's sacrifice
00:32:25.720 or a sorcerer or a charmer
00:32:27.520 or a medium or a necromancer.
00:32:29.220 So that's someone
00:32:29.800 who inquires of the dead
00:32:31.500 for whoever does these things
00:32:33.120 is an abomination to the Lord.
00:32:35.360 And because of these abominations
00:32:36.720 to the Lord your God,
00:32:38.040 the Lord your God
00:32:39.280 is driving them out before you.
00:32:41.000 It's so important for God's people
00:32:42.500 to be holy,
00:32:43.280 to be sanctified,
00:32:44.140 to be set apart.
00:32:45.680 And God knew that idolatry
00:32:47.100 and witchcraft
00:32:47.820 and messing around
00:32:49.140 with the satanic things
00:32:50.840 are so bad for our bodies
00:32:52.280 and our hearts
00:32:53.000 that he shows us
00:32:54.400 in the Old Testament,
00:32:55.220 this is not going to be something
00:32:56.240 that's among my people.
00:32:58.460 Different verses in Leviticus
00:33:00.060 and the rest of the law books
00:33:02.560 repeat the same things.
00:33:04.820 And then in the New Testament,
00:33:06.100 1 Thessalonians 5.22,
00:33:07.740 abstain from every form of evil.
00:33:09.880 Ephesians,
00:33:11.020 actually we just read Ephesians 5.7-11,
00:33:14.780 take no part in unfruitful works
00:33:17.280 of darkness.
00:33:19.120 Now, the question is,
00:33:20.840 is there a way to celebrate
00:33:22.980 what is considered
00:33:24.500 the Christian origins of Halloween?
00:33:26.740 And is there a way
00:33:28.560 to celebrate it today
00:33:31.960 in a way that glorifies God,
00:33:33.860 in a way that does not expose
00:33:35.860 our children to darkness intentionally?
00:33:39.140 And, you know,
00:33:40.100 some people,
00:33:41.080 especially Catholics,
00:33:42.180 would say you should be celebrating
00:33:43.740 All Saints Day.
00:33:44.760 I think a lot of Catholics,
00:33:46.100 not all,
00:33:46.700 would probably also say that
00:33:48.140 like celebrating
00:33:49.480 some parts of Halloween
00:33:50.960 is okay,
00:33:51.760 but our focus should be
00:33:53.340 on the saints
00:33:54.000 and the martyrs
00:33:54.780 that had been celebrated
00:33:55.760 throughout Catholic history.
00:33:58.980 And then others,
00:34:00.340 of course,
00:34:00.700 would say,
00:34:01.200 both Protestant and Catholic,
00:34:02.780 that you shouldn't celebrate it at all.
00:34:04.760 That there should be
00:34:05.900 no trick-or-treating,
00:34:06.940 there should be no candy,
00:34:08.980 and that all of that
00:34:10.360 is partnership with darkness.
00:34:13.160 And my perspective
00:34:14.980 is that
00:34:16.640 you
00:34:17.840 can totally not celebrate Halloween.
00:34:20.960 Like,
00:34:21.180 I think that
00:34:21.760 that is
00:34:22.480 a legitimate
00:34:23.920 stance to take.
00:34:26.860 And I think
00:34:28.340 that if that is
00:34:29.240 the decision
00:34:29.720 that you want to make
00:34:30.700 as a family,
00:34:31.400 and if you have
00:34:32.220 godly reasons
00:34:33.040 for doing that,
00:34:33.920 not paranoid reasons
00:34:35.120 for doing that,
00:34:36.340 as in like,
00:34:37.520 you think that
00:34:38.340 doing that
00:34:38.840 is going to like
00:34:39.560 possess your child
00:34:41.100 or possess your home
00:34:42.240 with some kind of demon,
00:34:43.780 but you're just like,
00:34:44.640 you know what,
00:34:45.100 I just don't even want
00:34:46.220 my kids to see
00:34:46.980 that kind of thing,
00:34:48.100 and candy is bad for them.
00:34:49.560 I think that's
00:34:50.240 totally fine.
00:34:51.580 I do think
00:34:52.820 that there is a way
00:34:53.880 for Christians
00:34:56.280 to do parts
00:34:58.200 of Halloween
00:34:58.840 in a way
00:34:59.980 that glorifies God
00:35:01.480 and does not
00:35:03.340 celebrate darkness,
00:35:04.720 and I'll get into that
00:35:05.820 in just a second.
00:35:06.980 Let me go ahead
00:35:07.560 and pause.
00:35:08.900 I'll tell you
00:35:09.200 about our next sponsor
00:35:09.920 for the day,
00:35:10.720 and that is
00:35:11.160 Every Life.
00:35:11.960 We love Every Life.
00:35:13.060 It's America's
00:35:13.660 pro-life diaper company,
00:35:15.780 high-performing diapers,
00:35:17.460 really good wipes.
00:35:18.260 We use all of their products
00:35:19.520 in our home,
00:35:20.440 but they also have
00:35:22.220 Every Life women.
00:35:23.360 This is a new part
00:35:24.300 of Every Life,
00:35:25.140 so a clean,
00:35:26.520 premium,
00:35:27.380 feminine care line
00:35:28.300 that boldly proclaims
00:35:29.660 God's truth.
00:35:30.440 Womanhood is beautiful,
00:35:32.140 intentional,
00:35:32.960 worthy of celebration.
00:35:34.660 They have all kinds
00:35:35.500 of period care
00:35:36.280 and then even
00:35:36.900 postpartum recovery bundle,
00:35:39.860 and this is,
00:35:40.860 I mean,
00:35:41.140 this is the kind of company
00:35:42.080 that you want to buy from.
00:35:43.340 They not only make
00:35:44.220 really top-notch products
00:35:45.620 with good materials,
00:35:46.540 but they also share
00:35:47.800 our values.
00:35:48.380 You don't have to worry
00:35:49.140 if they're secretly
00:35:49.800 using your hard-earned dollars
00:35:51.380 to support abortion causes
00:35:53.940 and abortion clinics.
00:35:55.040 Unfortunately,
00:35:55.640 that's true of a lot
00:35:56.840 of women's companies today.
00:35:58.400 You don't have to worry
00:35:59.320 about that with Every Life,
00:36:00.620 another Christian pro-life
00:36:01.980 family-owned company
00:36:03.300 that makes really,
00:36:04.460 really good products.
00:36:05.540 So go to
00:36:05.880 everylife.com
00:36:07.200 slash women.
00:36:08.360 When you use code
00:36:09.360 Allie10,
00:36:10.240 you'll get 10%
00:36:11.040 off your order.
00:36:12.180 everylife.com
00:36:13.600 slash women,
00:36:14.400 code Allie10.
00:36:20.940 There is a popular quote
00:36:22.340 that always goes around,
00:36:23.980 and it's attributed
00:36:24.560 to someone named Anton LaVey,
00:36:26.000 who is a real person.
00:36:26.960 He was the founder
00:36:27.580 of like the modern-day
00:36:28.620 Church of Satan.
00:36:29.760 And the quote says,
00:36:30.540 I want to thank
00:36:30.960 every Christian parent
00:36:31.700 who's allowed their children
00:36:32.560 to celebrate Halloween
00:36:33.460 once a year.
00:36:34.380 But that's entirely fabricated.
00:36:36.340 There is no evidence
00:36:37.220 whatsoever
00:36:37.780 that Anton LaVey
00:36:38.960 actually said that.
00:36:41.000 And a lot of people
00:36:41.700 use this as the basis
00:36:43.100 for not celebrating
00:36:45.140 Halloween at all.
00:36:47.120 But that's just not true.
00:36:48.400 You may have other reasons
00:36:49.660 not to celebrate Halloween,
00:36:51.760 but I don't think
00:36:53.440 that that is one of them.
00:36:54.780 And just remember this,
00:36:56.920 that cultural authorities,
00:36:58.600 that satanic authorities
00:36:59.700 do not have any power
00:37:01.060 over the Christian.
00:37:02.420 Their opinion
00:37:03.240 and their experiences,
00:37:05.940 their perspective on things,
00:37:07.400 their practices,
00:37:08.240 they don't have to determine
00:37:10.020 what Christians do.
00:37:11.560 Christians are in the business
00:37:12.580 of redemption.
00:37:13.940 Christians are in the business
00:37:14.900 of bringing glory to God.
00:37:16.780 For the Christian,
00:37:18.180 there is no day
00:37:19.420 that's off limits.
00:37:20.360 There is no day
00:37:21.260 that is not holy.
00:37:22.600 There is no day
00:37:23.420 that is even holier
00:37:24.560 than another day.
00:37:26.060 For the Christian,
00:37:27.680 every day is the Lord's.
00:37:29.400 This is the day
00:37:30.440 that the Lord has made.
00:37:31.640 Let us rejoice
00:37:32.600 and be glad in it.
00:37:34.040 That is not just true
00:37:35.900 of November 1st
00:37:37.220 or December 25th
00:37:38.560 or Easter.
00:37:39.420 It is just as true
00:37:40.720 on October 31st
00:37:43.220 as it is on any day.
00:37:44.640 Every single day
00:37:45.700 is the Lord's.
00:37:46.900 There is no superstition
00:37:48.180 or more demonic authority
00:37:51.560 on one day
00:37:53.200 over another day.
00:37:54.620 So Christians
00:37:55.280 should not operate
00:37:56.620 out of,
00:37:57.660 well,
00:37:57.760 what does this Satanist
00:37:58.900 want me to do
00:37:59.580 or not do?
00:38:00.560 What does this pagan guy
00:38:02.240 say about
00:38:03.600 the significance
00:38:04.460 of this day?
00:38:05.860 Christians use
00:38:06.720 every opportunity
00:38:08.140 to glorify God
00:38:09.520 and to advance
00:38:10.520 his gospel
00:38:11.280 and disciple
00:38:12.240 his children.
00:38:13.400 And I believe
00:38:14.340 that there is a way
00:38:15.880 to do that on Halloween.
00:38:17.620 Here's my perspective.
00:38:18.760 This is what I grew up with
00:38:20.120 and this is what
00:38:21.120 we are now passing down
00:38:22.540 to our kids.
00:38:24.320 So my mom
00:38:25.180 would not let us
00:38:26.140 celebrate anything scary.
00:38:27.580 She wouldn't let us
00:38:28.400 dress up as anything
00:38:29.700 evil.
00:38:31.520 I wasn't allowed
00:38:33.020 to dress up
00:38:33.680 like a witch
00:38:34.460 or dress up
00:38:35.240 like anything scary.
00:38:36.780 We weren't even allowed
00:38:37.700 to put like spider webs
00:38:39.540 in the windows.
00:38:40.240 I always wanted
00:38:40.800 to decorate more
00:38:42.480 in like,
00:38:43.180 I don't know,
00:38:43.700 some kind of,
00:38:44.860 not seriously ghoulish way,
00:38:46.880 but just,
00:38:47.720 I don't know,
00:38:48.240 some kind of way
00:38:49.040 for Halloween growing up
00:38:50.140 because I thought
00:38:50.620 it was fun
00:38:51.080 and she just always said,
00:38:51.920 no,
00:38:52.160 like we're just going
00:38:53.080 to celebrate fall
00:38:54.720 and we'll put pumpkins
00:38:55.700 on the porch
00:38:56.680 and all of that,
00:38:57.360 but we're not going
00:38:57.960 to do anything scary.
00:38:59.580 But then she would
00:39:01.200 also use the opportunity
00:39:02.420 and she still does
00:39:03.460 this today
00:39:04.220 to share the gospel
00:39:05.580 with our neighbors.
00:39:06.900 It is such a rare opportunity
00:39:09.520 that we have
00:39:10.380 to get all of these people,
00:39:12.320 many of them
00:39:12.980 not Christians,
00:39:13.880 showing up to our front door
00:39:15.580 and taking something from us
00:39:18.000 and they're going to,
00:39:19.940 they're going to take
00:39:21.160 the candy that we give them.
00:39:22.600 So it is an opportunity,
00:39:24.020 my mom has shown me,
00:39:25.220 to redeem
00:39:25.820 what could be a day
00:39:27.540 that celebrates darkness,
00:39:28.680 could be a day
00:39:29.660 that's dominated
00:39:30.700 by people
00:39:31.760 with dark and evil intentions
00:39:33.420 and bring the light
00:39:35.060 of the Lord into it.
00:39:36.820 Bring the gospel message
00:39:38.100 into it.
00:39:39.060 You can tie a gospel message
00:39:41.960 around the Snickers bar
00:39:43.420 or whatever healthy alternative
00:39:45.540 that you want to give people.
00:39:47.060 You can put it
00:39:47.680 in a little bag.
00:39:48.880 My mom basically
00:39:50.160 puts a little gospel tract
00:39:51.780 like with her candy
00:39:53.540 and she sits on the porch
00:39:54.840 and she hands out the candy
00:39:56.960 and sometimes she talks
00:39:58.640 to the parents,
00:39:59.580 shares the gospel
00:40:00.500 and we've kind of like
00:40:01.520 joined her in that effort.
00:40:03.220 She also makes
00:40:04.020 these really cute signs.
00:40:05.320 She, I've always told her
00:40:06.140 she needs to sell these signs.
00:40:07.740 She doesn't.
00:40:08.640 But these really cute signs
00:40:10.360 that have like
00:40:11.980 little Halloween characters
00:40:13.540 on them,
00:40:14.680 but she'll use a Bible verse
00:40:16.040 like whoever calls,
00:40:18.500 like whoever calls upon
00:40:20.740 the name of the Lord
00:40:21.620 will be saved.
00:40:22.540 And she has all these
00:40:23.700 little puns like that
00:40:26.460 using scripture
00:40:27.480 and using like cute fall
00:40:29.320 or maybe little Halloween
00:40:31.100 costume characters.
00:40:32.820 And she puts these banners
00:40:34.520 in her front yard.
00:40:35.880 And I think that's
00:40:36.960 a really cute way
00:40:38.100 to say,
00:40:38.560 okay, whatever Satan
00:40:39.580 means for evil,
00:40:40.680 God is going to use it
00:40:41.860 for good.
00:40:42.540 And we are agents
00:40:44.040 of his goodness.
00:40:44.920 We are agents
00:40:46.200 of his beauty.
00:40:47.140 We are the aroma
00:40:48.000 of Christ.
00:40:49.100 So how can we use
00:40:50.600 trick-or-treating
00:40:51.260 to our advantage?
00:40:53.180 Like how can we use
00:40:54.640 this day to advance
00:40:55.780 the gospel of Christ?
00:40:57.040 I actually don't think,
00:40:58.460 even though I do think
00:40:59.460 that it's a legitimate
00:41:00.420 choice for you
00:41:01.140 to just opt out
00:41:02.020 of the day entirely,
00:41:03.760 I'm not sure
00:41:04.340 if that's the best choice.
00:41:05.480 From my opinion,
00:41:06.460 it's not.
00:41:07.260 I don't know
00:41:08.400 if the Benedict option
00:41:09.760 when it comes to Halloween
00:41:11.140 is actually the best choice.
00:41:14.320 I wonder if
00:41:16.040 retreating
00:41:17.320 and allowing
00:41:19.180 the darkness
00:41:19.820 to dominate
00:41:20.580 in our neighborhoods
00:41:21.640 is the best option
00:41:23.260 for the Christian.
00:41:24.120 Like what if
00:41:24.880 we pushed back
00:41:25.780 against the darkness
00:41:26.660 with as much light
00:41:27.820 and truth
00:41:28.220 as we possibly could?
00:41:29.640 That is the option
00:41:30.540 that I take.
00:41:31.680 And yes,
00:41:32.240 we do allow our kids
00:41:33.300 to dress up
00:41:33.980 in fun costumes.
00:41:35.720 We do allow them
00:41:37.000 to go to
00:41:37.680 like a select few houses
00:41:39.300 and get some candy.
00:41:40.440 We don't do anything crazy.
00:41:41.660 We don't do scary movies.
00:41:44.480 We don't do
00:41:45.100 anything like that.
00:41:47.200 And like I said,
00:41:48.020 it's an opportunity
00:41:48.840 to have conversations
00:41:50.060 about how Christians
00:41:51.220 live differently.
00:41:52.440 And there are even
00:41:53.140 going to be people
00:41:54.000 who call themselves
00:41:54.800 Christians
00:41:55.340 who indulge
00:41:56.540 in that kind of stuff
00:41:57.700 and we'll talk
00:41:58.680 about that too.
00:42:00.220 And it's a good
00:42:01.700 opportunity
00:42:02.260 to show your kids
00:42:03.680 that it is okay
00:42:05.140 and expected
00:42:06.080 for Christians
00:42:06.780 to be weird
00:42:07.700 in the secular world,
00:42:10.240 for us to be different
00:42:11.880 for the right reasons.
00:42:14.220 But also
00:42:15.140 to not be scared.
00:42:16.740 I don't want them
00:42:17.880 to be scared
00:42:18.580 of Satan.
00:42:19.520 I don't want them
00:42:20.200 to be scared
00:42:21.180 of like demonic powers
00:42:23.980 and paranoid
00:42:24.740 in that way.
00:42:25.480 I think that there
00:42:26.040 is a healthy fear
00:42:27.180 of that,
00:42:28.440 but there should also
00:42:29.260 just be like
00:42:29.900 a repudiation
00:42:30.620 of that.
00:42:31.460 And like an authority,
00:42:33.060 a Christian authority
00:42:34.000 that we give
00:42:34.840 our children
00:42:35.460 when Christ lives
00:42:36.760 in you,
00:42:37.540 that he who is
00:42:38.440 in you
00:42:39.020 is more powerful
00:42:41.080 and has already
00:42:41.920 overcome
00:42:42.820 he who is
00:42:43.760 in the world.
00:42:44.320 So like we want
00:42:45.680 our children
00:42:46.060 to walk in light
00:42:47.100 and hope
00:42:48.000 and victory
00:42:49.060 and truth
00:42:50.060 and that even
00:42:51.020 goes for
00:42:51.840 October 31st.
00:42:53.960 So again,
00:42:54.860 I think there's
00:42:55.560 a way to do it.
00:42:56.520 I think there's
00:42:57.140 a way to redeem it.
00:42:58.260 I think there is
00:42:58.900 a way to push back
00:42:59.880 against darkness
00:43:00.660 without opting out
00:43:01.780 entirely.
00:43:03.420 And while still
00:43:04.980 acknowledging
00:43:05.500 that the demonic
00:43:06.260 does exist
00:43:07.400 and that maybe
00:43:08.960 this is a high
00:43:09.720 holiday for the
00:43:10.740 satanic church,
00:43:11.760 but like we don't
00:43:13.260 have we don't
00:43:13.980 have anything
00:43:14.480 truly as Christians
00:43:15.620 like to fear
00:43:16.700 for that.
00:43:17.380 So there is
00:43:18.220 a lot of nuance
00:43:19.000 here.
00:43:20.080 There is certainly
00:43:20.780 a level of
00:43:21.540 Christian liberty
00:43:22.320 here and I'm
00:43:24.020 sure that this
00:43:24.500 will make some
00:43:24.980 people mad,
00:43:26.080 but this is how
00:43:27.300 we have chosen
00:43:28.080 to approach it
00:43:28.860 and I just really
00:43:29.500 appreciate how my
00:43:30.440 mom approached
00:43:31.000 it growing up
00:43:31.780 and that is
00:43:32.600 what I hope
00:43:33.060 to adopt.
00:43:34.060 Now something
00:43:34.500 that we didn't
00:43:35.320 do growing up
00:43:36.220 that we do
00:43:37.320 now at least
00:43:38.580 to an extent
00:43:39.200 some years
00:43:39.820 have been more
00:43:40.540 all out than
00:43:41.340 others.
00:43:41.940 I'm going to
00:43:42.280 try to do
00:43:42.840 more this year
00:43:43.640 than I did
00:43:44.100 last year
00:43:44.780 and that is
00:43:45.680 celebrate the
00:43:46.240 Reformation.
00:43:47.180 Now my Catholic
00:43:48.000 friends who are
00:43:48.660 listening to this
00:43:49.440 you do not
00:43:50.100 you will not
00:43:51.400 agree with our
00:43:52.500 celebration of the
00:43:53.360 Reformation and
00:43:54.200 we won't get into
00:43:55.120 all of it today
00:43:55.900 but we're going to
00:43:56.600 get into some
00:43:57.220 of it.
00:43:57.640 What the
00:43:58.140 Reformation is
00:43:59.020 on October 31st
00:44:00.520 and why we
00:44:01.880 celebrate the
00:44:03.120 Reformation,
00:44:03.680 why we teach
00:44:04.120 our kids about
00:44:04.720 the Reformation
00:44:05.440 in the car
00:44:06.540 this morning.
00:44:07.120 I was talking
00:44:07.760 to our oldest
00:44:09.720 about the
00:44:10.360 Reformation
00:44:10.780 and she
00:44:11.860 already knows
00:44:12.580 but so
00:44:13.060 asking her
00:44:13.580 some questions
00:44:14.060 who was
00:44:14.420 Martin Luther
00:44:14.920 what did
00:44:15.700 he do
00:44:16.160 what was
00:44:17.020 going on
00:44:17.700 that was
00:44:18.080 wrong
00:44:18.440 does money
00:44:19.260 get you
00:44:19.880 into heaven
00:44:21.020 do good
00:44:21.620 works get
00:44:22.260 you into
00:44:22.640 heaven
00:44:22.920 no
00:44:23.420 no
00:44:24.020 and so
00:44:24.960 it's a
00:44:25.280 good like
00:44:25.720 back and
00:44:26.160 forth
00:44:26.320 it's a
00:44:26.600 good opportunity
00:44:27.200 to talk
00:44:27.920 about like
00:44:28.380 what the
00:44:28.720 gospel really
00:44:29.340 is when we
00:44:29.800 celebrate
00:44:30.120 the Reformation
00:44:30.620 so I'll
00:44:31.240 get into
00:44:31.600 that
00:44:31.860 let me
00:44:32.380 go ahead
00:44:32.640 and pause
00:44:32.920 tell you
00:44:33.160 about our
00:44:33.400 next sponsor
00:44:33.920 I know
00:44:34.200 we just
00:44:34.540 did an
00:44:34.880 ad read
00:44:35.280 but I
00:44:35.900 got a
00:44:36.120 couple more
00:44:36.480 sponsors
00:44:36.900 that I
00:44:37.220 want to
00:44:37.460 make sure
00:44:37.880 that I
00:44:39.080 tell you
00:44:39.420 about all
00:44:39.860 of them
00:44:40.180 and my
00:44:40.740 next sponsor
00:44:41.220 for today

00:44:53.640 your money

00:44:55.180 it to

00:44:56.600 causes
00:44:56.960 and you
00:44:57.720 don't want

00:45:53.460 what is
00:45:53.940 the
00:45:54.080 Reformation
00:45:54.480 why do
00:45:55.040 we celebrate

00:45:55.980 the
00:45:56.100 Stuckey
00:45:56.400 home
00:45:56.640 why do
00:45:56.960 so many
00:45:57.420 Christians
00:45:57.940 around the
00:45:58.500 world
00:45:58.700 celebrate
00:45:59.200 the
00:45:59.420 Reformation
00:45:59.940 well if
00:46:00.560 you don't
00:46:00.800 know
00:46:01.020 and I
00:46:01.400 was not
00:46:02.180 raised
00:46:02.460 learning
00:46:02.780 about this
00:46:03.580 at all
00:46:03.960 I think
00:46:04.340 maybe even
00:46:05.340 Catholics
00:46:05.680 probably learn
00:46:06.220 more about
00:46:06.900 the Reformation
00:46:07.600 and Martin
00:46:08.600 Luther not
00:46:09.120 from a
00:46:09.440 positive
00:46:09.700 perspective
00:46:10.220 negative
00:46:10.680 perspective
00:46:11.180 growing up
00:46:11.820 than a lot
00:46:12.860 of Protestants
00:46:13.480 do I was
00:46:13.920 raised Southern
00:46:14.380 Baptist very
00:46:15.020 thankful for
00:46:15.700 that upbringing
00:46:16.200 learned so much
00:46:17.280 about the Bible
00:46:18.020 and Bible
00:46:18.420 memorization and
00:46:19.520 apologetics but
00:46:20.420 I didn't know
00:46:21.500 anything about the
00:46:22.340 Reformation not
00:46:23.440 until college and I
00:46:24.480 started reading my
00:46:25.140 ESV study Bible and
00:46:26.760 I learned what like
00:46:27.740 reformed theology is
00:46:29.340 it was when I
00:46:30.460 was an adult
00:46:31.340 that I learned
00:46:32.580 how important the
00:46:33.440 Reformation is
00:46:34.340 this recovery of
00:46:35.260 the gospel
00:46:35.840 so Martin Luther
00:46:37.280 nailed his
00:46:38.260 famous 95
00:46:39.100 theses to the
00:46:39.960 Wittenberg church
00:46:40.880 door in Germany
00:46:41.680 on October
00:46:42.440 31st
00:46:43.720 1517
00:46:44.580 he was not
00:46:45.300 trying to start
00:46:45.800 a revolution
00:46:46.360 he wasn't even
00:46:47.040 really trying to
00:46:48.680 start or thinking
00:46:49.360 he was going to
00:46:49.980 start this
00:46:50.400 widespread
00:46:51.440 reformation
00:46:52.760 but he posted
00:46:53.480 the 95
00:46:54.940 problems he had
00:46:56.200 with current
00:46:57.120 practices in the
00:46:58.220 Catholic Church
00:46:58.920 at the time
00:46:59.660 and he wanted
00:47:00.600 to stay a
00:47:01.140 Catholic
00:47:01.380 he believed a
00:47:02.520 lot of things
00:47:02.940 that Protestants
00:47:03.500 today don't
00:47:04.080 believe about
00:47:05.020 Mary and the
00:47:05.800 Pope and so
00:47:06.580 he was a
00:47:08.200 good Catholic
00:47:09.760 monk but he
00:47:11.420 had a problem
00:47:11.980 with a lot of
00:47:12.520 things that were
00:47:12.960 going on one of
00:47:13.860 the problems that
00:47:14.460 he had was
00:47:15.860 the practice of
00:47:17.500 indulgences it
00:47:18.860 was popular at
00:47:19.800 the time because
00:47:20.640 the population
00:47:21.300 could not read
00:47:22.120 they didn't know
00:47:22.860 what the Bible
00:47:23.360 says many of
00:47:24.300 them couldn't
00:47:24.760 understand Latin
00:47:25.540 so they didn't
00:47:26.120 even understand
00:47:26.940 what was going
00:47:27.960 on
00:47:28.340 in the mass
00:47:29.560 at the time
00:47:30.220 and so the
00:47:31.440 religious leaders
00:47:32.200 in that era
00:47:33.380 had full authority
00:47:34.400 to be able to
00:47:34.960 tell them yeah
00:47:35.480 this is how you
00:47:36.080 get to heaven
00:47:36.540 and this is what
00:47:38.080 the Christian
00:47:38.460 message is all
00:47:39.120 about and if
00:47:39.800 you pay us
00:47:40.380 some money
00:47:40.940 then we will
00:47:41.920 spring the
00:47:42.900 souls of your
00:47:43.400 relatives from
00:47:44.080 purgatory and
00:47:44.940 that will give
00:47:45.340 them some credit
00:47:45.920 to get into
00:47:46.420 heaven which of
00:47:47.320 course is horrible
00:47:49.080 spiritual and
00:47:50.160 monetary extortion
00:47:51.400 and so not true
00:47:52.520 it has no basis
00:47:53.680 in Christian reality
00:47:54.640 no basis in the
00:47:55.400 Bible at all
00:47:56.080 and Martin
00:47:56.940 Luther saw
00:47:57.380 this and he
00:47:58.220 was like well
00:47:58.840 this is not
00:48:00.180 good and this
00:48:00.980 is not what
00:48:01.360 the Bible
00:48:01.700 says and
00:48:02.700 then the
00:48:03.140 rallying cry
00:48:04.240 of the
00:48:04.820 Reformation
00:48:05.340 became really
00:48:07.080 kind of at
00:48:08.320 the start
00:48:08.720 unbeknownst to
00:48:10.100 Martin Luther
00:48:10.780 was sola fide
00:48:12.220 or by faith
00:48:13.860 alone that we
00:48:15.100 cannot earn
00:48:16.080 our way to
00:48:16.680 heaven we
00:48:17.080 cannot pay
00:48:17.840 our way to
00:48:18.480 heaven it's
00:48:18.900 not through
00:48:19.280 good works
00:48:19.760 it's not
00:48:20.200 through our
00:48:20.540 donations it's
00:48:21.720 not through
00:48:22.080 our mass
00:48:22.600 attendance it's
00:48:23.280 not through
00:48:23.580 anything we
00:48:24.180 do but
00:48:25.040 Ephesians 2
00:48:25.740 says by grace
00:48:26.800 through faith
00:48:27.440 you have been
00:48:27.940 saved and this
00:48:28.820 is not your
00:48:29.500 own doing not
00:48:30.760 a result of
00:48:31.600 works so that
00:48:32.660 no one can
00:48:33.380 boast over and
00:48:34.320 over again in
00:48:34.900 that passage it
00:48:35.680 reiterates that of
00:48:36.820 course we see
00:48:37.400 that in Colossians
00:48:38.280 we see that in
00:48:39.260 Galatians we see
00:48:40.800 that over and
00:48:41.500 over again in the
00:48:42.240 New Testament and
00:48:43.500 even in the book
00:48:44.580 of James when it
00:48:45.200 says what it
00:48:47.380 says faith without
00:48:48.180 works is dead that
00:48:50.060 is not a repudiation
00:48:51.260 of by grace through
00:48:52.100 faith that is
00:48:53.000 saying that your
00:48:54.780 works are activated
00:48:55.820 by your faith and
00:48:57.320 that your faith is a
00:48:58.640 prerequisite for your
00:49:00.220 works your works are
00:49:01.120 not a prerequisite for
00:49:02.480 your salvation in
00:49:04.080 fact in Ephesians 2
00:49:05.520 10 we read that
00:49:07.420 after that passage by
00:49:09.200 grace through faith you
00:49:09.920 have been saved that
00:49:11.480 you may walk in the
00:49:12.960 good works that God
00:49:14.800 prepared for you
00:49:15.940 beforehand and so
00:49:17.560 the good works are
00:49:18.380 actually a product of
00:49:20.120 our faith again not
00:49:21.940 a prerequisite for it
00:49:23.120 and so that was
00:49:24.860 Luther's rallying cry
00:49:27.100 and it was so
00:49:28.240 important for him
00:49:29.140 that Christians were
00:49:30.060 actually able to
00:49:30.980 understand the gospel
00:49:31.780 for themselves and to
00:49:33.400 do that they needed to
00:49:34.360 be able to read the
00:49:35.320 Bible and so he
00:49:36.640 worked very hard he
00:49:37.840 had to run for his
00:49:38.880 life from the
00:49:39.580 Catholic Church
00:49:40.340 excommunicated him
00:49:42.420 and of course wanted
00:49:45.000 his life in many ways
00:49:46.780 and he worked very
00:49:48.340 hard in hiding to
00:49:49.840 translate the Bible
00:49:51.240 translate the Bible
00:49:52.880 from the original
00:49:54.040 Hebrew and Greek
00:49:55.080 into German and
00:49:57.100 when that happened
00:49:58.120 that was the that was
00:50:01.240 the wild fire of the
00:50:02.600 Reformation once people
00:50:04.260 could read the Bible
00:50:05.000 for themselves once
00:50:06.280 people understood the
00:50:07.620 gospel once people
00:50:09.340 understood like what it
00:50:10.800 means to actually be
00:50:12.300 saved it went so far
00:50:14.500 beyond Martin Luther
00:50:15.700 and a lot of people
00:50:17.040 will say well it's
00:50:18.120 caused all this
00:50:18.660 division you've got
00:50:19.460 all of these
00:50:20.000 denominations now
00:50:21.340 well first of all
00:50:22.220 that 32,000 number
00:50:23.760 for the denominations
00:50:24.740 that's not even true
00:50:25.700 that's like every
00:50:26.660 single tiny iteration
00:50:27.940 of every denomination
00:50:29.100 there's really like
00:50:29.960 12 different
00:50:31.060 denominations and
00:50:32.000 by the way there are
00:50:32.760 a lot of disagreements
00:50:33.920 in different parts
00:50:35.380 of the Roman
00:50:36.060 Catholic Church as
00:50:37.040 well even if they
00:50:37.840 are not officially
00:50:38.820 different denominations
00:50:40.680 but division that is
00:50:43.840 for the sake of truth
00:50:45.800 is not necessarily
00:50:47.180 bad it is the nature
00:50:49.220 of liberty like the
00:50:50.900 fact that we have
00:50:52.880 all of these varying
00:50:53.880 states who have
00:50:55.380 different state
00:50:56.340 constitutions and
00:50:57.260 different state laws
00:50:59.380 and different different
00:51:01.460 ways of doing things
00:51:03.580 that is a product of
00:51:05.020 the liberty of America
00:51:06.940 separating from England
00:51:09.060 and yet it has been
00:51:10.800 a huge net positive
00:51:12.120 because in our
00:51:13.480 pursuit of liberty
00:51:14.420 we have also
00:51:15.780 recovered the goodness
00:51:17.320 of inherent rights
00:51:18.340 that have been given
00:51:19.000 to us by God
00:51:20.060 and so division
00:51:21.840 might be the product
00:51:22.880 of liberty
00:51:23.500 but the truth
00:51:25.220 that comes from
00:51:26.180 the freedom
00:51:26.740 that individuals
00:51:27.560 have had to seek
00:51:28.720 the scriptures
00:51:29.300 for themselves
00:51:30.200 it is worth it
00:51:31.300 every single day
00:51:32.560 of the week
00:51:33.100 and I would say
00:51:33.820 that even the
00:51:34.460 Roman Catholic Church
00:51:35.460 has benefited
00:51:36.320 from the products
00:51:37.740 of the Reformation
00:51:38.440 which has been
00:51:39.540 the study of scripture
00:51:40.740 I don't think
00:51:41.760 any Roman Catholic
00:51:42.460 can deny
00:51:43.200 that today
00:51:44.180 Roman Catholics
00:51:45.360 know more about
00:51:46.360 the Bible
00:51:46.760 than they used to
00:51:47.560 that there are
00:51:48.940 more Bible studies
00:51:49.920 and more seriousness
00:51:51.580 of studying scripture
00:51:53.180 than there used to be
00:51:55.100 in the Roman Catholic Church
00:51:56.380 you should go listen
00:51:57.280 to my episode
00:51:58.080 on with Stage Steel
00:51:59.680 on her show
00:52:00.580 about that
00:52:01.900 she was raised Catholic
00:52:02.700 and she would say
00:52:03.560 today she knows
00:52:04.240 nothing about the Bible
00:52:05.940 she would say that
00:52:07.040 those are her words
00:52:08.140 and that she wishes
00:52:10.700 that she was raised
00:52:12.160 reading scripture
00:52:12.960 and it's totally different
00:52:14.320 from the evangelical experience
00:52:15.860 it's like
00:52:16.500 I mean it is
00:52:17.200 Bible, Bible, Bible
00:52:18.160 from preschool
00:52:19.180 Awana
00:52:20.720 every single kind
00:52:22.080 of like
00:52:22.400 Bible blast
00:52:24.040 what was
00:52:24.420 what was the
00:52:25.300 competition
00:52:26.160 that we used to have
00:52:27.380 oh I thought
00:52:28.140 Chief Related Bro
00:52:28.840 was in here
00:52:29.500 was it called
00:52:30.920 Sword Drills
00:52:31.780 did someone say
00:52:33.180 Sword Drills
00:52:33.760 Sword Drills
00:52:35.100 oh yeah Sword Drills
00:52:36.120 where we would like
00:52:36.980 have to have competitions
00:52:38.980 for who could find
00:52:39.980 the book of the Bible
00:52:40.720 fasted
00:52:41.120 so so different
00:52:42.020 than the evangelical upbringing
00:52:43.140 and a lot of that
00:52:44.000 is the product
00:52:44.620 of the Reformation
00:52:45.480 this emphasis
00:52:46.700 on knowing scripture
00:52:48.180 and the authority
00:52:49.480 of scripture
00:52:50.020 it's not that we don't
00:52:50.900 believe in the authority
00:52:51.780 of the local church
00:52:52.720 or that theologians
00:52:53.620 can teach us nothing
00:52:54.480 it's not that we don't
00:52:55.320 care about unity at all
00:52:56.660 it's just that God's
00:52:58.240 God's word
00:52:59.000 is the only infallible
00:53:00.460 and inerrant source
00:53:01.540 that we have
00:53:02.160 and even though
00:53:02.880 we're fallible
00:53:03.620 and we won't always
00:53:04.740 get every interpretation
00:53:06.220 right
00:53:06.900 again that liberty
00:53:07.840 to seek the truth
00:53:08.940 by reading the Bible
00:53:09.800 for ourselves
00:53:10.580 has been an incredible
00:53:12.260 positive because
00:53:13.080 it's showed people
00:53:13.840 what the gospel
00:53:14.600 really is
00:53:16.340 and this is
00:53:17.760 Luther's desire
00:53:19.300 to refocus the church
00:53:20.740 on salvation
00:53:21.740 by grace
00:53:22.300 through faith alone
00:53:23.100 he said
00:53:23.780 God receives none
00:53:24.800 but those who are forsaken
00:53:26.000 restores health
00:53:26.800 to none
00:53:27.220 but those who are sick
00:53:28.080 gives sight
00:53:28.900 to none
00:53:29.420 but the blind
00:53:30.020 and life
00:53:30.600 to none
00:53:30.980 but the dead
00:53:31.540 he does not give
00:53:32.540 saintliness
00:53:33.080 to any but sinners
00:53:34.020 nor wisdom
00:53:34.580 to any but fools
00:53:35.420 in short
00:53:35.920 he has mercy
00:53:36.840 on none
00:53:37.320 but the wretched
00:53:37.880 and gives grace
00:53:38.680 to none
00:53:39.240 but those who are
00:53:40.340 in disgrace
00:53:41.060 therefore no arrogant
00:53:42.500 saint
00:53:42.960 or just
00:53:43.720 or wise man
00:53:44.540 can be material
00:53:45.260 for God
00:53:45.820 neither can he do
00:53:46.620 the work of God
00:53:47.440 but he remains
00:53:48.360 confined within
00:53:49.280 his own work
00:53:50.020 and makes of himself
00:53:51.220 a fictitious
00:53:51.940 ostensible
00:53:52.840 false
00:53:53.540 deceitful saint
00:53:54.540 that is a hypocrite
00:53:55.860 in other words
00:53:57.040 you don't earn
00:53:58.460 your salvation
00:53:59.080 God is not
00:54:00.600 proud of you
00:54:01.400 because you've done
00:54:02.280 all of these good things
00:54:03.640 to merit his love
00:54:04.620 that is actually
00:54:05.260 the distinction
00:54:05.860 of Christianity
00:54:06.540 versus every other
00:54:07.620 religion in the world
00:54:08.540 every other religion
00:54:09.840 in the world
00:54:10.340 tells you how to get to God
00:54:11.440 Christianity is distinct
00:54:13.080 because it says
00:54:14.600 you can't make your way
00:54:15.680 to God
00:54:16.020 you can't climb up
00:54:17.020 this mountain
00:54:17.420 that is why
00:54:18.000 God
00:54:18.740 embodied
00:54:20.120 human form
00:54:21.240 came down to earth
00:54:22.180 to save us
00:54:22.900 that is why we read
00:54:23.880 that we are dead
00:54:24.560 in our sin
00:54:25.220 can a dead person
00:54:26.320 save himself
00:54:27.060 can a dead person
00:54:28.180 give an indulgence
00:54:29.080 to spring
00:54:30.340 a sinner
00:54:31.900 out of purgatory
00:54:32.840 can a dead person
00:54:34.040 clean himself off
00:54:35.380 and make himself
00:54:36.220 acceptable
00:54:37.040 no of course not
00:54:38.860 we are made alive
00:54:40.040 by grace
00:54:40.640 through faith
00:54:41.140 that is the gospel
00:54:42.340 that was recovered
00:54:43.120 through the reformation
00:54:44.200 and we are still
00:54:45.860 living
00:54:46.800 in the light
00:54:48.280 of the reformation
00:54:49.200 today
00:54:49.460 and I am so
00:54:50.340 incredibly thankful
00:54:51.240 for that
00:54:51.740 so yes
00:54:52.380 absolutely
00:54:53.200 we celebrate that
00:54:54.560 in our homes
00:54:55.280 and I
00:54:56.280 there are lots
00:54:56.860 of like kids books
00:54:57.720 about the reformation
00:54:58.740 and Martin Luther
00:54:59.440 on Amazon
00:55:00.020 I can't vouch
00:55:00.740 for all of them
00:55:01.600 we have a couple
00:55:02.340 I think
00:55:02.680 one is the ABCs
00:55:03.640 of the reformation
00:55:04.540 which are really good
00:55:07.120 and I just encourage you
00:55:08.200 if you're like me
00:55:09.000 and you were not raised
00:55:10.000 learning about the reformation
00:55:12.260 I think that it's really
00:55:13.280 important for we as Christians
00:55:14.700 to know church history
00:55:16.300 and that's not where
00:55:17.440 church history starts
00:55:18.460 I think it's really important
00:55:19.500 to read the church fathers
00:55:21.300 and to understand
00:55:22.100 the whole history
00:55:22.960 of the church
00:55:24.140 but certainly as Protestants
00:55:25.740 like we need to know
00:55:26.560 why we believe
00:55:27.240 what we believe
00:55:28.040 I actually have
00:55:29.020 on my necklace
00:55:29.940 right here
00:55:30.340 I've got the five solas
00:55:31.720 which was really
00:55:33.800 like the motto
00:55:34.640 of the reformation
00:55:36.120 sola scriptura
00:55:37.040 that's scripture alone
00:55:38.380 sola fide
00:55:39.080 faith alone
00:55:39.780 sola gratia
00:55:40.560 grace alone
00:55:41.160 solus Christus
00:55:42.160 Christ alone
00:55:42.900 and soli deo gloria
00:55:44.120 to God's glory alone
00:55:45.220 sometimes you'll see me say
00:55:46.220 SDG
00:55:47.320 and that's what I mean
00:55:48.580 soli deo gloria
00:55:49.780 for God's glory alone
00:55:51.300 and it was said like this
00:55:52.640 by grace alone
00:55:53.440 through faith alone
00:55:54.320 in Christ alone
00:55:55.180 according to scripture alone
00:55:56.600 for God's glory alone
00:55:58.440 and that's what I have
00:56:00.000 on my necklace
00:56:00.700 along with the cross
00:56:01.620 and the heart
00:56:02.140 in the middle
00:56:03.520 and that should still be
00:56:05.620 our rallying cry
00:56:06.640 I believe as Christians today
00:56:07.900 so there's so many ways
00:56:09.580 to redeem
00:56:10.840 this day of October 31st
00:56:12.700 without fear
00:56:13.440 without paranoia
00:56:14.620 without superstition
00:56:16.240 that can actually like
00:56:17.340 look closer to witchcraft
00:56:19.220 than someone who is
00:56:20.800 sharing the gospel
00:56:21.920 with their neighbors
00:56:23.580 on Halloween
00:56:24.260 just got a couple more
00:56:25.540 things to say
00:56:26.180 let me go ahead

00:57:25.020 Constitution Wealth
00:57:25.920 is a registered
00:57:26.460 investment advisor
00:57:27.320 registration does not
00:57:28.620 imply a certain level
00:57:29.440 of skill or training
00:57:30.380 before considering
00:57:31.100 their services
00:57:31.680 you should carefully
00:57:32.600 review Constitution Wealth's
00:57:33.940 disclosures
00:57:34.380 at ConstitutionWealth.com
00:57:35.700 to understand all
00:57:36.620 material risks
00:57:37.460 conflicts of interest
00:57:38.540 and fees
00:57:39.360 all investing involves risk
00:57:40.880 including the risk of loss
00:57:41.960 this is a paid endorsement
00:57:43.020 and I am not a client
00:57:43.860 of the firm
00:57:44.280 okay
00:57:51.220 so here are just
00:57:52.180 a few things
00:57:52.740 to kind of close us out
00:57:53.820 Christians can create
00:57:55.260 more quote unquote
00:57:56.440 holy days
00:57:57.240 celebrating Christ's victory
00:57:58.420 reclaiming calendar time
00:58:00.000 rather than ceding it
00:58:01.600 to pagans
00:58:02.520 this is such
00:58:03.220 an important point
00:58:04.560 we don't have to cede
00:58:05.560 anything to the demonic
00:58:06.640 we don't have to cede
00:58:07.760 anything to pagans
00:58:09.340 and remember
00:58:10.360 every day
00:58:11.360 for the Christian
00:58:11.980 is holy
00:58:12.500 because we have the Holy Spirit
00:58:13.800 living in us
00:58:14.580 Hebrews 11 talks about
00:58:16.120 all the people of God
00:58:17.280 in the Old Testament
00:58:18.380 who lived by faith
00:58:19.620 and what they accomplished
00:58:20.780 through God
00:58:21.840 because of their faith
00:58:23.380 and so he lists several heroes
00:58:24.740 and then in verse 33
00:58:25.960 who through faith
00:58:27.020 conquered kingdoms
00:58:27.800 enforced justice
00:58:28.760 obtained promises
00:58:29.700 stopped the mouths of lions
00:58:31.020 quenched the power of fire
00:58:32.580 escaped the edge of the sword
00:58:33.900 were made strong
00:58:34.860 out of weakness
00:58:35.440 became mighty in war
00:58:36.680 put foreign armies to flight
00:58:38.100 women received back
00:58:39.380 their dead by resurrection
00:58:40.620 some were tortured
00:58:41.820 refusing to accept
00:58:42.740 their lease
00:58:43.100 so that they might rise again
00:58:44.480 to a better life
00:58:45.840 and then others
00:58:46.880 endured persecution
00:58:48.340 by faith
00:58:49.400 this is what Christians
00:58:50.360 can accomplish
00:58:51.040 by faith
00:58:51.840 not because
00:58:52.540 we are strong
00:58:53.500 but because God is strong
00:58:54.720 that is the power
00:58:55.600 that is within us
00:58:56.460 every day
00:58:57.600 because the Holy Spirit
00:58:58.600 living in us
00:58:59.360 we don't want to fall
00:59:01.560 into fearful
00:59:02.600 avoidance
00:59:04.020 and therefore
00:59:04.840 refuse to push back
00:59:07.000 against darkness
00:59:08.240 Matthew 28
00:59:09.060 19 through 20
00:59:10.660 go therefore
00:59:11.520 and make disciples
00:59:12.260 of all nations
00:59:13.000 baptizing them
00:59:13.740 in the name of the Father
00:59:14.500 the Son
00:59:14.980 and the Holy Spirit
00:59:15.700 teaching them to observe
00:59:16.720 all that I have commanded you
00:59:18.160 also we need to prioritize
00:59:20.440 family discipleship
00:59:21.700 and family worship
00:59:23.560 we need to explain
00:59:24.560 to our kids
00:59:25.420 Christ's supremacy
00:59:27.160 over evil
00:59:27.980 choosing
00:59:28.420 non-occult costumes
00:59:30.340 non-demonic costumes
00:59:31.540 and obviously
00:59:32.820 avoiding all kinds
00:59:34.140 of demonic activity
00:59:35.100 and remembering
00:59:36.920 that he has transferred us
00:59:38.440 from the domain of darkness
00:59:39.700 into the kingdom of light
00:59:41.860 1 John 4 4 says
00:59:43.740 little children
00:59:44.320 you are from God
00:59:45.020 and have overcome them
00:59:46.300 for he who is in you
00:59:47.460 is greater
00:59:48.080 than he who is in the world
00:59:49.780 we should also disciple
00:59:51.480 our kids
00:59:52.140 when it comes
00:59:52.940 to the reality
00:59:54.200 of darkness
00:59:54.920 and evil
00:59:55.700 Proverbs 22 6
00:59:57.060 tells us
00:59:57.560 train up a child
00:59:58.220 in the way he should go
00:59:59.200 even when he is old
01:00:00.420 he will not depart
01:00:01.440 from it
01:00:02.080 and we should also realize
01:00:04.580 that the trauma
01:00:05.200 that comes from Halloween
01:00:06.680 for some people
01:00:08.600 is real
01:00:10.340 decisions surrounding this
01:00:12.540 they require humility
01:00:13.620 they require wisdom
01:00:14.820 and they do
01:00:16.400 as I said
01:00:16.920 have a level
01:00:17.640 of liberty
01:00:18.920 James 1 5
01:00:20.540 if any of you
01:00:21.080 lacks wisdom
01:00:21.680 let him ask God
01:00:22.640 who gives generously
01:00:23.660 to all without reproach
01:00:25.080 and it will be
01:00:25.980 given to him
01:00:28.180 let convictions
01:00:29.280 form through the Holy Spirit
01:00:31.060 not just your impulses
01:00:32.340 not what you're seeing
01:00:33.120 on TikTok
01:00:33.600 not what I'm saying
01:00:34.500 or what anyone else
01:00:35.460 is saying
01:00:36.160 we should be engaging
01:00:37.240 culture to glorify God
01:00:38.940 and reclaiming it
01:00:39.900 Romans 14
01:00:40.920 5 through 6
01:00:42.500 one person esteems
01:00:43.440 one day is better
01:00:44.220 than another
01:00:44.720 while another
01:00:45.260 esteems all days alike
01:00:46.400 each one should be
01:00:47.920 fully convinced
01:00:48.500 in his own mind
01:00:49.180 the one who observes
01:00:49.920 the day
01:00:50.240 observes it
01:00:51.180 in honor of
01:00:53.220 the Lord
01:00:54.000 so every day
01:00:55.420 should be observed
01:00:56.400 in honor of the Lord
01:00:57.380 to glorify him
01:00:58.320 in everything we do
01:00:59.480 and in many ways
01:01:01.000 that will look the same
01:01:01.940 no matter who you are
01:01:03.040 but in some ways
01:01:04.460 depending on where God
01:01:05.740 has placed us
01:01:06.640 and our own convictions
01:01:09.720 that may look different
01:01:11.320 to a degree
01:01:12.780 that's not to say
01:01:13.740 everyone is right
01:01:14.600 or every choice
01:01:15.460 is equally right
01:01:16.760 we don't believe
01:01:17.600 in relativism
01:01:19.080 but we do believe
01:01:21.000 that where the Bible
01:01:22.580 is not explicit
01:01:24.060 that there could be
01:01:25.460 good faith disagreements
01:01:26.640 among Christians
01:01:27.320 but we should unite
01:01:28.500 that we do not fear Satan
01:01:29.980 we only fear God
01:01:31.380 and that we walk
01:01:33.000 in holiness with him
01:01:34.120 in uprightness with him
01:01:35.500 and seek to evangelize
01:01:37.680 and to glorify God
01:01:38.760 in everything we do
01:01:40.040 both inside our homes
01:01:41.060 and how we teach our kids
01:01:42.120 and also how we
01:01:43.800 engage our neighbors
01:01:45.420 all right
01:01:46.300 that's all we got time
01:01:47.460 for today
01:01:47.880 we will be back here
01:01:48.660 on Friday
01:01:49.100 we will be back here
01:01:52.700 we will be back here
01:01:52.760 and we will see you
01:01:53.080 as next Question
01:01:57.780 You
