00:00:00.000 Top 10 Ridiculous Alex Jones Moments.
00:00:02.740 Who ordered the Satanist New World Order with a side of general conspiracy theories?
00:00:07.520 Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we're...
00:00:10.280 Chad, do you believe in all the satanic conspiracy theories that go around?
00:00:16.120 Alex Jones is a big proponent of that.
00:00:17.420 He says that the NWO is ran by Satan worshippers,
00:00:22.400 that they all go on islands, and they go touch kids, and they worship the devil,
00:00:26.260 and they are completely anti-God.
00:00:28.040 and the elites are all evil and they're completely against religion.
00:00:33.400 A lot of people say that's crazy, but I agree with all of it.
00:00:36.320 Counting down our picks for the top 10 ridiculous Alex Jones moments.
00:00:40.360 He loves defrauding the bitches.
00:00:42.780 He loves slapping them upside the head and having them beg him.
00:00:47.560 Beg him for more.
00:00:49.420 Before we begin, we publish-
00:00:50.860 Yes, yeah, okay, you agree?
00:00:53.300 Okay.
00:00:53.680 if you don't agree then why for example is every new hip-hop artist using satanic imagery in their
00:01:01.580 music all of them every celebrity you could find pictures of them doing satanic shit like that
00:01:06.080 devil horns covering their eye let me show you when you want to start a rap career or you want
00:01:11.280 to get really famous and be in movies and when you succumb to the hollywood elite program all
00:01:16.120 the biggest people in hollywood are on the island too look what you got to do hello youtube today
00:01:21.800 i'll be exposing that ksi is a devil worshipper first i want to teach you a few devil hand
00:01:26.360 gestures pulling the six eyes a devil worshipper this is the shit i'm talking about not saying
00:01:31.240 that ksi is part of this so that he does this but this is the type of shit that you got to do
00:01:35.920 the eye is a really famous one you'll see a lot of these weird celebrities doing them
00:01:41.840 also pulling the devil horns which i'm sure most of you already know and covering one eye
00:01:46.840 this shit it's when you want to get successful in music this is the type of shit you got to do
00:01:52.460 and covering one eye one eye represents that not only god is always watching but so is the devil
00:01:59.540 and you'll notice that pretty much all of these devil worshiping weirdos
00:02:06.340 just block one eye in their photos what they did was they signed their name in blood also knowing
00:02:13.820 has sold their soul in return for money and fame and carry on getting more rich and famous by doing
00:02:19.100 rituals in the song bad low vibe he says this and he also says ambition is my religion when i play
00:02:28.380 but it's so much harder when the devil made me say then it goes into the chorus that's not the
00:02:34.460 first time he's mentioned soul selling in the devil so basically i'm now part of the illuminati
00:02:38.940 I've already sold my soul to the devil
00:02:41.260 Chickard patterns is one of the main Masonic patterns
00:03:01.640 And it represents duality
00:03:03.020 Also the chain that he's wearing is a Masonic pattern as well
00:03:05.840 If we slow down the video when it flicks through pictures
00:03:08.480 i'm not trying to put this weird conspiracy theory out there i'm just trying to say that when you
00:03:12.760 start a music career when you start making music videos when you want to make it as a rapper you
00:03:16.800 got to do all this shit why though you're just making like average ass auto-tone music that is
00:03:22.300 pretty simple and formulaic and you've heard it a billion times but why is all the imagery this
00:03:26.980 there's a girl covering one eye masonic patterns duality patterns and does that look like a cobra
00:03:32.160 to you you'll see officer throwing up two sixes as upside down crosses are in the background then
00:03:36.800 shows a girl in a cage the light shines on the upside down cross and then on horns then you see
00:03:41.520 the jaguar pattern and as that crosses on his ass then ksi pulls six and then says
00:03:48.560 reverse see how i flick through pictures and one eye is covered and if you didn't already
00:03:52.320 notice the candles and all the triangles in the background and that masonic pattern is a part of
00:03:56.320 this person's t-shirt at 038 in ksi's song number two hidden in the background is this symbol which
00:04:01.680 which represents anarchy, as well as human and animal sacrifices.
00:04:05.540 I think he's going a little far.
00:04:06.960 I think he's going a little too deep into it,
00:04:08.700 but I'm just trying to point out that you have to do this shit
00:04:11.140 if you want to make it in Hollywood.
00:04:12.320 If you want to be famous, if you want to get to that level of clout,
00:04:15.040 this is the shit you got to do.
00:04:16.340 Let's go back to Alex Jones,
00:04:17.560 because he's been calling this shit out his whole career.
00:04:19.320 Flash new videos every day,
00:04:21.460 so be sure to subscribe for more great content.
00:04:24.880 For this list, we're looking at some of Jones' most outrageous
00:04:28.260 and unbelievable conspiracies and bizarre rants.
00:04:32.060 After you're done drinking your little juices,
00:04:34.780 well, I mean, you're ready to go out and have a baby.
00:04:39.340 Number 10, Pizzagate.
00:04:41.240 Anthony Weiner is going to be investigated
00:04:43.800 for child porn on his phone and contacting minors.
00:04:47.940 The 2016 American presidential race
00:04:50.320 was characterized by much controversy and mudslinging.
00:04:53.760 But even so, this was one seriously out there accusation.
00:04:57.040 When the Podesta emails leaked and there were several mentions of pizza and pizza-related phrases, an odd theory began to take shape.
00:05:04.920 Following the logic outlined by online forum...
00:05:07.020 See that Jeffrey Epstein, one of the leaders of this, who hosted all these satanic rituals on islands,
00:05:11.800 look who's going to his, not even just Bill Clinton, but some of the most famous people in Hollywood.
00:05:18.620 It's all connected. To be famous, you need to go to these islands and do rituals with them, touch kids, eat them,
00:05:23.380 and then you're part of the crew and then they'll put you in movies and they'll give you big album
00:05:27.580 deals and you could be at the Grammys. And far right news sites, Alex Jones proceeded to explore
00:05:32.240 the possibility of a satanic pedophilia ring that was connected not only to the Clintons,
00:05:37.300 but also to a pizzeria called Comet Ping Pong. Satanic rituals, royal family, mainstream news,
00:05:44.220 folks. After a shooting occurred at the restaurant where thankfully no one was hurt,
00:05:48.540 Alex actually issued a rare apology and retraction on behalf of InfoWars.com.
00:05:54.280 I made comments about Mr. Alifanis that in hindsight...
00:05:57.720 Yeah, I don't like this video. Alex Jones is a lot of good exposing this stuff.
00:06:00.340 He's a man of God. He's trying to point out the fact that these most famous people are all doing these rituals.
00:06:04.360 But then you see top 10 ridiculous Alex Jones moments.
00:06:06.900 And the people that, what they focus on the most is the fact that frogs are gay or Sandy Hook would never happen.
00:06:12.940 It was all construed by the global agenda, the globalist agenda.
00:06:16.480 They focus on that. They focus on all the times that he was wrong or all the times he retracted
00:06:22.160 statements, but they don't even focus on the parts where he was right. And they should because he's a
00:06:26.220 truth seeker. He never sold out. I regret and for which I apologize to him. Number nine,
00:06:33.540 Machete Race Wars. Do you understand that you politically put yourself in the criminal zone
00:06:39.500 potentially if violence breaks out from this film? Machete is a 2010 grindhouse film written
00:06:45.580 and directed by Robert Rodriguez. The story is about a former federale who is hired to assassinate
00:06:51.260 a Texas senator. Turns out the whole thing was a setup, and so Danny Trejo's character must get his
00:06:57.160 revenge. According to Alex Jones, however, the images and depictions of violence against white
00:07:02.540 people were sure to cause an uprising by the Hispanic community. Robert Rodriguez, I would say
00:07:09.620 it's a 90% chance right now, is going to trigger racial riots and racial killings.
00:07:15.960 He actually said there was a 90% chance the movie would cause a race war.
00:07:20.280 Well, maybe not enough Mexican-Americans saw it because nothing happened.
00:07:23.960 They should focus on the good stuff too, not just all the times he was wrong.
00:07:26.920 But this is what happens when he starts speaking the truth, they will adamantly just try to
00:07:29.820 focus on all the bad stuff because instead of getting mad at the system, they get mad
00:07:32.620 at the truth speaker. So he's under so much scrutiny. He's risked his career many times.
00:07:36.760 he's been to court many times he was just there they want to bring down the person spreading truth
00:07:41.940 instead of bring down the system that's holding all of us back and who was they play around with
00:07:47.460 us like puppets but look how much scrutiny that he faces bro you've been given the green light
00:07:52.580 to create a race riot film to create division in this nation so the globalists can play whites and
00:07:59.200 hispanics and others off against each other number eight government controlled weather
00:08:03.840 and you're saying but sneaker aren't you famous tate as well well tate was just removed off every
00:08:07.620 single platform and they have put strikes on my channel and i've only gotten famous through like
00:08:11.480 you guys clipping myself and put it on tiktok daily reminder that you can download my streams
00:08:15.680 and repurpose it all in youtube shorts reels tiktoks because people want to spread it i've
00:08:19.660 been fighting against that my whole career i've been doing youtube for nine years and i'm only
00:08:22.420 now really starting to get traction because i figured out a way to hack the system i figured
00:08:26.060 out a way to get by bypass the fame fucking level that they want you to use to get famous
00:08:31.680 I don't need to go by the traditional path
00:08:33.960 We can do it ourselves now
00:08:35.200 We can hack the algorithm
00:08:36.720 Once you outsmart the algorithm
00:08:39.020 With the tools that we have with our phone
00:08:40.700 And you get better
00:08:41.400 Then like, okay, let me go sell my soul
00:08:43.800 I'm gonna be a demon worshiper
00:08:45.640 And lick blood and eat children
00:08:47.020 Fuck that
00:08:47.600 We can do that shit ourselves
00:08:48.820 There's no more need for a middleman
00:08:51.060 I don't need to sign to an agency
00:08:52.440 I can just do it with me and you
00:08:54.840 Every night with the camera
00:08:56.840 I'm never gonna sell my soul
00:08:59.120 Ever
00:08:59.500 Fuck that, bro
00:09:00.580 it's not worth it. It's not worth the simple paycheck. I'm in here for the long haul, bro.
00:09:04.860 I want to be there just talking to my audience. It's not like everybody who gets famous needs to
00:09:08.440 do this stuff, but to sell out and to get the sort of movie deals and to get the record label deals
00:09:13.540 and to get the fame that people really desire so badly, you need to sell your soul. You need
00:09:19.920 to be a satanic worshiper. Next 10 minutes, I'm going to break down a subject so incredibly
00:09:26.060 important i don't even feel worthy to bring you this information this was a subject so important
00:09:32.460 that jones said he wasn't worthy to bring us the information about it humility be damned however
00:09:38.140 he did it anyway jones starts off by claiming that quote a whole host of strange and radioactive
00:09:44.540 chemicals have been added to jet fuel since the 1990s a whole host of radioactive isotopes aluminum
00:09:51.260 dioxide, the list goes on and on. Their purpose? Why? To manipulate the weather, of course.
00:09:57.720 Not only that, but he goes on to claim that these chemicals actually create holes in the atmosphere
00:10:02.180 and damage the soil. But the scientists, meteorologists, astrophysicists, and others that
00:10:08.440 I've talked to have said what they're spraying and releasing would actually eat holes in the
00:10:14.200 atmosphere and damage the soils of the planet. As the cherry on top of this piece of hard-hitting
00:10:19.080 investigative journalism, he warns that government weather weapons, such as HAARP, could be used to
00:10:24.440 cause natural disasters like earthquakes and the Oklahoma tornado. The government can control the
00:10:29.920 weather if they want to. They're messing with the weather, they're buying armored vehicles and
00:10:34.360 billions of rounds of ammo and have TV shows badmouthing the founding fathers. Number seven,
00:10:39.820 Satanists taking over America. The new world order, I guess, has read that God's going to
00:10:46.520 destroy the earth next time by fire.
00:10:49.000 We're not really sure what they ever did to him,
00:10:50.860 but Alex Jones sure dislikes
00:10:52.840 Satanists. According to
00:10:54.640 Jones, the demonic high-
00:10:56.140 Why is that even a question that Watchmogers said?
00:10:58.420 We're not really sure why, but
00:11:00.480 Alex Jones hates evil
00:11:02.440 Satan worshippers. Shouldn't we
00:11:04.660 all? Why does that make
00:11:06.740 him a crazy conspiracy theorist that
00:11:08.680 Alex Jones is against Satanic worshippers?
00:11:11.500 What the fuck?
00:11:12.860 I'm not sure what they ever did
00:11:14.620 to him fuck them obviously why is anyone even close to siding with satan why is that a sentence
00:11:21.980 what the tech tyranny of the new world order is led by satanist elites who create economic and
00:11:27.560 health crises in order to advance their agenda of world domination and if you believe the bible
00:11:32.420 it's being run by an ancient powerful entity with super advanced intelligence this group of
00:11:38.180 illuminati has links to hillary clinton marina abramovich and lady gaga in fact he claimed the
00:11:44.280 Gaga's Super Bowl halftime show was a cover for Satanic Rite.
00:11:47.840 Yep, a lot of these concerts are low-key just a big Satan ritual.
00:11:52.220 Come to think of it, if you squint your eyes and tilt your head,
00:11:55.320 it did kind of resemble a Satanic ritual.
00:11:58.280 Kind of.
00:12:00.420 And I'm going to say it again, I like Playboy Carti's music a lot.
00:12:03.180 A lot of those concerts, kind of the same thing.
00:12:05.440 The way you go,
00:12:05.840 And they got flashing upside-down crosses,
00:12:10.980 every Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Uzi Vert, Lucifer,
00:12:13.020 all those concerts it's just basically a satanic ritual and that's what they want you to do when
00:12:17.220 you go mosh pit you lose your mind and you go in there it's it's it's similar to like
00:12:22.920 yeah remember seeing an elite hopper doing that shit i don't know
00:12:26.920 number six the pierce morgan debate how you're a hatchet man of the new world order you're a
00:12:38.500 Things got a little heated when Alex Jones debated
00:12:42.000 Piers Morgan on CNN about gun control.
00:12:45.440 America is among the world leaders when it comes to gun-related deaths,
00:12:49.880 and this reality has led to some pretty polarizing points of view on the subject.
00:12:55.780 In classic Alex Jones fashion,
00:13:02.360 he has some reasonable points about the need for firearms,
00:13:04.860 but he muddies it all up with conspiracy theories
00:13:07.460 and rants about Castro, global tyranny, and illegal immigrants. Jones nearly bursts a blood vessel
00:13:13.400 talking about a new 1776 if his firearms are taken away. Hitler took the guns, Stalin took the guns,
00:13:20.640 Mao took the guns, Fidel Castro took the guns, Hugo Chavez took the guns, and I'm here to tell
00:13:25.260 you, 1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms. Let's go! Alex Jones, man! I wish he
00:13:34.100 you vote for president. 1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms. Chat, would you
00:13:39.840 vote for him? I'm voting. W. Alex Jones in the chat, man. Free that man. Number five, Joker cosplay. Why so
00:13:46.660 serious? Who doesn't enjoy dressing up as their favorite comic book character? Damn it, Creed.
00:13:53.540 I've been up since four. Alex Jones likes to do it and rant about Obama. In a truly unsettling
00:14:00.160 segment. Alex dresses as the Joker from Christopher Nolan's 2008 film The Dark Knight,
00:14:05.120 doing his best imitation of the character that wowed audiences with his unhinged and
00:14:09.300 maniacal behavior. The Infowars host starts the segment with a seriously chilling laugh,
00:14:14.540 and things just get weirder from there. Still in costume, he hits the streets,
00:14:29.260 offering a thousand dollars to anyone who videotapes themselves putting up flyers of
00:14:33.400 barack obama made up to look like the iconic bat villain anyone else confused look at them out
00:14:39.040 there they're pathetic just like the joker himself is pathetic number four goblins look goblins are
00:14:46.820 a serious problem anyone who's seen the hobbit can tell you that or how about jareth that no
00:14:51.520 good baby-stealing goblin king from labyrinth in theory we agree with chat stop calling me the
00:14:56.740 joker just because i go stupid this doesn't make me the joker no i'm not i'm not i'm not the same
00:15:03.180 ones on this one but he loses us when he starts talking about kissing goblins or getting in bed
00:15:08.580 with a goblin in this talk about trump jones weaves an intricate and very detailed metaphor
00:15:13.800 about the dangers of associating with certain political elites so i never expected trump
00:15:18.840 charging into a goblin's nest to not get some goblin vomit and slopping blood on him
00:15:23.660 I just don't want to catch him in bed with a goblin
00:15:26.860 Facts man
00:15:28.040 Trump was an outsider
00:15:29.960 And he did have to get a little bit of goblin butt on him
00:15:32.200 He should have pardoned Assange
00:15:33.560 I'm not happy about that
00:15:35.100 He did get elected in 2016 by saying
00:15:37.960 Oh WikiLeaks, WikiLeaks are great
00:15:40.200 They're the greatest
00:15:40.980 No, they want me to give me the virus
00:15:43.620 But he should have pardoned Assange
00:15:46.400 It's fucked up
00:15:47.520 But you can't be perfect
00:15:49.600 Hillary Clinton knows literally a walking demon
00:15:52.360 Rant gets hysterical, however, when he seemingly gets lost in his own metaphor.
00:15:56.940 But hey, goblins are an interesting topic of conversation.
00:15:59.780 Even the best of us get sidetracked when talking about them.
00:16:02.680 I don't want to see him kissing goblins, having political succubus with goblins.
00:16:08.340 I don't want to see him ingratiating goblins.
00:16:13.140 Number three, BBC Sunday Politics.
00:16:15.740 So now we know that Bilderberg has given us the euro.
00:16:21.140 Things sure can get weird when two worlds collide, huh?
00:16:24.680 In this segment, the realm of real-world news and journalism
00:16:27.720 smashes straight into the conspiracy tornado land of Infowars and Alex Jones.
00:16:33.280 During this BBC segment, fellow guest David Aronovich takes him to task,
00:16:37.920 pointedly asking Jones why it is that he's been allowed to live
00:16:41.280 if he is in fact uncovering all of these New World Order conspiracies.
00:16:45.060 Which is the explanation?
00:16:46.820 One, they don't exist.
00:16:49.500 Or two, you're part of the conspiracy.
00:16:51.020 No, let me tell you a story. Let me tell you a story.
00:16:53.120 A fair question, but rather than answer it, Jones flies off the rails.
00:16:58.260 Of course, Jones also uses this as an opportunity to name drop his website, Infowars.com, every other sentence.
00:17:05.920 Infowars.com.
00:17:06.920 Hey, shout out to the Creativity Kit. Right now it's closed. We have all the members in there.
00:17:10.220 We're working hard. We're doing regular networking calls.
00:17:12.320 I'm just having the concentrated amount of people who are there right now.
00:17:14.780 I don't want to overwhelm it, but soon I think we're going to release it to the public,
00:17:17.560 but right now the Creativity Kit.com is not available to the public.
00:17:19.840 It's just the people who signed up first.
00:17:21.880 It's gone half past 11.
00:17:24.400 You're watching The Sunday Politics.
00:17:26.820 We have an idiot in the program today.
00:17:28.960 Coming up in just 20 minutes.
00:17:30.820 You will not stop the republic.
00:17:32.540 Freedom!
00:17:34.160 Humanity is awakening.
00:17:35.720 Number two, Hillary Clinton and the pickle jar.
00:17:38.500 She supposedly opens a can of pickles.
00:17:44.860 After suffering a severe medical episode during her presidential campaign,
00:17:48.160 Hillary Clinton staged several bizarre stunts designed to prove her health.
00:17:53.000 One of these stunts, clearly meant to be in good fun,
00:17:55.860 involved her opening a pickle jar on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
00:17:59.040 Fake news! That's a fake pickle jar! There's a demon in there!
00:18:02.600 Believe it or not, that pickle's actually Lil Nas X.
00:18:04.860 But Alex claimed the whole thing was fake because he didn't hear a pop.
00:18:08.900 You would hear the pop of the can. Facts.
00:18:11.800 He also points out that pickled vegetables have a top that doesn't turn all the way around like the jar in the segment.
00:18:17.060 Her appearance on The Late Night Show was clearly political theater,
00:18:20.100 but being a few pickles short of a jar himself,
00:18:22.800 Alex Jones just took the conspiracy theory too far.
00:18:26.220 There's no pop.
00:18:27.360 She acts like it pops at the end.
00:18:29.920 This is completely and totally fake.
00:18:32.620 Before we unveil our number one pick,
00:18:34.780 here are some honorable mentions.
00:18:36.320 And actually, they're gonna make up frogs are gay.
00:18:38.420 He was right about that.
00:18:40.080 The water's turning the frogs gay.
00:18:42.140 Frogs are gay!
00:18:43.060 Oh my god, he's crazy!
00:18:44.180 He was right.
00:18:44.780 He loves betraying people. He gets off on it. He's committed to Satan.
00:18:49.420 And the film roles couldn't come to the Van Allen radiation belt.
00:18:51.780 They had to broadcast back a TV signal.
00:18:53.920 So they did doctor up photos and stuff for the public.
00:18:56.940 See, 666 is a doubling of 33. And 33 is pi.
00:19:00.960 Number one, gay frogs.
00:19:03.500 A recurring theme on Joan's show is the conspiracy that the United States government is actively trying to turn things gay.
00:19:11.560 In one segment, for example, he claimed that the chemical lining in juice boxes
00:19:15.700 is meant to turn kids into homosexuals.
00:19:18.640 But the reason there's so many gay people now is because it's a chemical warfare operation.
00:19:22.480 I have the government documents where they said they're going to encourage homosexuality
00:19:25.480 with chemicals so that people don't have children.
00:19:27.900 Most famously, however...
00:19:29.200 Facts. Facts. That's why it's not just soy. They say soy boys, but it's way deeper than that.
00:19:34.740 All the food that's processed, all the food that you get, the cereal, the McDonald's,
00:19:38.520 the fast food the microwave the processed foods is all designed to keep you weaker dumber slower
00:19:42.500 and make you not think have you ever eaten one of those like lunchables boxes and then after we
00:19:46.720 just feel lethargic and slow and maybe even a little gayer swear to god you microwave that
00:19:52.480 bowl of soup you're gonna be sucking dick in 24 hours i'm just saying i'm just supporting the fact
00:19:57.160 bro he asserted that the u.s has a gay bomb which it has already used if you're a new listener just
00:20:04.220 A side effect of these weapons of mass homosexuality
00:20:13.140 is that the runoff chemicals in the water
00:20:15.220 are turning the frogs gay.
00:20:21.760 We're not sure how he knows the true feelings
00:20:23.700 of our amphibian friends,
00:20:25.220 but we'll take his word for it.
00:20:26.800 Either way,
00:20:28.580 I don't like them putting chemicals in the water
00:20:30.720 that turn the friggin' frogs gay!
00:20:32.900 We're not sure how he knows the true feelings of our amphibian friends,
00:20:43.860 but we'll take his word for it.
00:20:45.680 Either way, Alex Jones clearly won't stand for it anymore.
00:21:02.900 Do you agree with our picks check out these other great clips from WatchMojo and subscribe for new video
00:21:32.900 Thanks for the 20, GME.
00:21:38.500 I'm sick of the Globless Agenda, let's turn into the freaking frogs, gay!
00:21:46.180 Three thought experiments that no one can solve.
00:21:48.680 I have no idea what this is, but I'm interested.
00:21:50.660 Because they call me the R-word every day and I want to get smarter.
00:21:54.260 This video is sponsored by the Book Summary app.
00:21:57.060 Oh, is it? Oh, is it?
00:21:58.640 Probably part of the Globless Agenda.
00:22:00.140 Imagine a hallway containing three different rooms.
00:22:06.940 In each room, there is a person being experimented on.
00:22:10.800 A captive subject to a rogue clandestine operation headed by the world's greatest, most intelligent neuroscientist.
00:22:17.260 This neuroscientist has been contracted by an intelligence agency group to research consciousness, perception, and intelligence, all in an effort to develop new understandings and technologies related to the mind.
00:22:30.140 In each room, we find brains running experiments on brains.
00:22:34.920 Experiments run on thought.
00:22:39.500 As we enter the hallway, we find ourselves at the first room.
00:22:43.800 The door is closed and locked.
00:22:45.980 Inside, there is a man named John.
00:22:48.820 He is not allowed out, and no one is allowed in.
00:22:52.380 He has been completely isolated for some time, provided food and water through a contactless delivery system.
00:22:57.900 A woman who works at the lab has now recently been instructed to begin periodically communicating
00:23:03.060 with John by slipping him notes under his door. She is not told anything else. She does not know
00:23:09.040 who is in the room or why. One morning, after she begins following this instruction, John wakes up
00:23:15.180 to a note in his room. He is both immediately curious and hopeful of what it might say.
00:23:20.780 However, to great disappointment, when he picks it up to read it, he finds that it is written in
00:23:26.300 Chinese, a language he does not know at all. However, John quickly notices that now also
00:23:37.220 placed in his room are boxes full of papers, pencils, and erasers, as well as books containing
00:23:42.800 comprehensive instructions for how to appropriately respond in Chinese to statements and questions
00:23:48.100 the woman might write. In the books, John can locate and match the symbols the woman
00:23:52.640 writes and then write the relevant corresponding symbols that the book provides, facilitating
00:23:57.340 a conversation.
00:23:59.060 At first, John is confused, but desperate for social interaction, he soon engages with
00:24:03.820 the woman, writing back notes according to the book's instructions.
00:24:07.960 As time passes, the woman begins to like and then fall for John, believing she is communicating
00:24:13.740 with a charismatic man who is fluent in Chinese.
00:24:20.640 Of course, however, John has no idea what he is saying.
00:24:25.640 In this experiment, referred to as the Chinese Room, we find the following question being
00:24:30.240 asked, what does it mean to be intelligent?
00:24:34.400 With the advent and rapid development of digital computing and artificial intelligence, the
00:24:39.060 question concerning when or if a machine could be considered intelligent, able to think and
00:24:44.400 possess an understanding, is only becoming increasingly relevant.
00:24:49.080 If John can convince the woman he is intelligent, or fluent in Chinese, based on what he outputs
00:24:54.060 from the room, but can do so without ever actually understanding Chinese and what he
00:24:58.700 is saying, then the output of John's behavior is not sufficient in qualifying him as intelligent,
00:25:05.180 or in this case, possessing an actual understanding of what he is saying.
00:25:09.640 And so, likewise, if a computer program can follow syntactic rules well enough to provide
00:25:14.860 an output that can convince a person that it is thinking and fully understanding that
00:25:19.300 does not necessarily mean that it is.
00:25:21.980 This experiment challenges the philosophical positions known as functionalism and computationalism.
00:25:27.720 Functionalism arguing that mental states are to be identified by what they do rather than
00:25:31.920 by what they are made of, and computationalism arguing that the mind is an information processing
00:25:37.220 system and consciousness is merely a form of computation.
00:25:43.700 According to the Chinese Rooms proposition, however, for intelligence of mind to actually
00:25:47.940 exist there needs to be understanding, which is inevitably always missing from a digital
00:25:53.540 computer.
00:25:54.700 This poses the question though, what constitutes understanding?
00:25:59.780 Obviously John understanding Chinese or not is essentially binary, but can John still
00:26:03.940 understand what he is doing in a situation without understanding Chinese?
00:26:09.360 In other words, does John's understanding of the fact that he is intaking and sending
00:26:13.320 out messages in Chinese still constitute some form of understanding.
00:26:18.400 On what level is a computational system required to understand what it is doing for it to be
00:26:22.820 considered sufficient enough for intelligence?
00:26:25.700 Is it a total, comprehensive understanding that is required?
00:26:28.840 A partial understanding in a specific way?
00:26:31.520 How does one determine this?
00:26:32.920 How does one verify it?
00:26:34.640 After all, do we as humans really understand what we mean even when we know what we are
00:26:39.920 saying?
00:26:40.920 Ultimately, if the door to John's room was suddenly opened, and the woman saw John showing
00:26:45.300 emotion and effort as he wrote his responses down from the instruction books, clearly understanding,
00:26:51.720 not the language, but the significance of it, his role in the exchange, would this change
00:26:57.280 things? Would the woman still find him worthy of love and possessing of a sufficient enough
00:27:01.780 understanding to be intelligent? Likewise, if a machine functioned as if it understood,
00:27:06.680 behaved as if it did and made the explicit claim that it felt as though it
00:27:10.820 all based on a program's code do we believe it how do we treat it what are
00:27:28.040 the ethics now needed as we move further down the hall in the next room there's
00:27:34.700 a woman named Mary. Mary has been contained in this room ever since she was born, completely
00:27:40.740 closed off from the rest of the world. No one has gone in, and she has never been let
00:27:45.660 out. She has been communicated with exclusively through an intercom system. Inside the room,
00:27:51.980 there is no color, and there never has been. It is completely black and white. Her skin
00:27:57.460 and hair have all been modified and dyed black, white, and gray. Through a delivery system,
00:28:02.940 She has only been given food and drink, completely dyed with black and white food coloring.
00:28:07.580 The only other things in the room that she has been given to pass the time are books and research papers, all also in black and white.
00:28:14.880 Contained inside the books and papers is all of the known knowledge on one subject, color perception.
00:28:21.680 Without having ever seen a color in her entire life, Mary has become an expert on color.
00:28:29.460 She knows everything there is to know, the physics of it, the process by which different
00:28:36.480 wavelengths of light stimulate the retina in the eye, how it triggers different electrical
00:28:40.420 signals that affect neural activity in the brain, and how the brain interprets these
00:28:44.320 signals into conscious experiences in the forms of different color perceptions.
00:28:49.300 Soon, however, the door to Mary's room will be opened, and she will be let out.
00:28:54.340 For the first time in her life, she will see color firsthand.
00:28:58.400 The question this experiment will then ask is when Mary leaves the room, will she learn anything new about color?
00:29:06.180 If she already possesses and understands all of the known knowledge on color perception,
00:29:10.400 is there still something unknown to her contained in experiencing it firsthand via the eye?
00:29:17.360 This experiment, referred to as Mary's room, attempts to demonstrate what is known as the knowledge argument,
00:29:22.900 which is the claim that there are truths related to conscious experience
00:29:26.320 that cannot be described or known by mere knowledge of physical facts.
00:29:30.940 In other words, there is a property of knowledge and understanding
00:29:33.680 that can only be found through first-hand conscious experience,
00:29:41.560 which, according to the argument, extends beyond the mere physicality of the experience.
00:29:46.820 This argues against the theory known as physicalism,
00:29:49.180 which is the counter view that argues that everything in the universe
00:29:52.240 including mental states is physical with physical explanations. The belief that Mary will experience
00:29:58.960 and learn something novel when seeing color for the first time might seem obvious but if she does
00:30:04.700 what exactly is it that is new? If the experience is tied to something physical she at least
00:30:10.820 theoretically should have already known. If it is not physical what is it? Is it the mental state
00:30:16.840 felt by the color? But what is being felt other than the physical state in the brain that the
00:30:21.580 color produces in the form of a mental state, which again, Mary should have, or at least could
00:30:31.280 have, already known. If she knows all the characteristics of a mental state through
00:30:36.180 knowledge, wouldn't she already know how it feels? Perhaps then, this experiment is and will remain
00:30:42.660 restricted by the limits of language and knowledge itself. Perhaps rather than any ineffable quality
00:30:48.260 of subjective conscious experience, Mary will demonstrate that language as a vehicle of
00:30:53.420 thought and understanding is simply far too limited to get near the mental state equivalent
00:30:58.300 to first hand experience, but nonetheless, theoretically, with advanced enough language,
00:31:03.760 it would be possible.
00:31:09.860 As we move down to the end of the hallway, in the final room is you.
00:31:15.020 Your brain currently floats in a stasis tube of nutrient solution.
00:31:20.400 Wires are implanted into it and plugged into a machine that actively processes and stimulates
00:31:25.000 all of your brain's nerve impulses.
00:31:28.500 Everything you are experiencing right now is mapped, modeled, and created by this machine,
00:31:34.140 your brain being stimulated into sequences of various mental states that reproduce your
00:31:38.220 regular perceptions.
00:31:40.200 You are not in the world as you think you are.
00:31:42.840 You are not in your body.
00:31:44.420 You are not physically encountering any environment through any senses.
00:31:48.520 Your memory is actively being altered and updated to create cohesiveness in the story
00:31:52.620 you imagine about yourself in order to make this illusion completely and constantly believable.
00:31:59.560 Of course, all of these are just thought experiments.
00:32:02.560 But the point of this last one is to pose the question, how can you know for sure?
00:32:09.600 How can you know that all of the aforementioned, the VAT, the lab, the neuroscientist, and so
00:32:14.880 on, isn't actually happening right now, and what you think is happening right now actually
00:32:20.120 isn't?
00:32:21.380 What can you really know with certainty to be true?
00:32:24.200 Can you be certain that anything exists outside your mind?
00:32:28.080 Can you be certain of the nature and conditions of your mind?
00:32:31.040 Can you be certain your senses are not deceiving you, that you are awake and not dreaming,
00:32:35.260 you are in the real world and not a simulation, or a vat, isn't the only thing you can be
00:32:40.940 certain of is that you are somewhere, somehow, in something, existing as a thinking thing.
00:32:47.860 Since all your abilities to think and know occur exclusively inside your mind, there
00:32:51.760 is no way for you to ever step out of it to know or prove of anything else.
00:32:59.420 All of the ideas and questions found in this hallway of thought experiments, the Chinese
00:33:03.160 room created by John Searle in 1980 Mary's room created by Frank Jackson in
00:33:09.820 1982 to experiment with itself in oh we did it we did it we learned something
00:33:15.780 okay
00:33:16.780 that's it
00:33:22.560 this is your job
