The results of the by-elections in Montreal and Winnipeg are in, and they're not good news for the Liberal Party in either of those cities. And what does that mean for the rest of the country?

00:00:00.000 Welcome back to another episode of Stand on Guard. I'm your host, David Creighton.
00:00:06.120 So nice to see you here on Tuesday, September 17th, 2024. And what a day this is.
00:00:14.800 One day after these by-elections in Montreal and Winnipeg, we'll be back with the results
00:00:21.380 of those by-elections, as if you haven't heard. And what do they mean?
00:00:26.320 So we are in a very precarious position in this country.
00:00:30.000 We need political change, but we also need to resolve to resist.
00:01:00.000 Make sure you're still subscribed. I hate to mention that every day. It means a lot to
00:01:03.940 a channel this size. If you can subscribe, and we're getting close to that magic 30,000.
00:01:09.260 Why is that magic? Well, I don't know. It's the next plateau. One I wasn't always sure
00:01:13.600 we'd make, but I'm so happy with your support. We're getting there, and I think we'll be there
00:01:17.940 very shortly. Big day yesterday. Parliament reopened. There was a protest in front of Parliament Hill,
00:01:24.500 which unfortunately I was not able to attend in person. But this, of course, was the protest
00:01:30.700 regarding why are we not finding out who these spies in the House of Commons are. Just a reminder,
00:01:39.040 Justin Trudeau and opposition leaders, that we need to know. Canadians want to know.
00:01:46.400 So that was a protest about that yesterday, and I'm so happy people of Canada aren't forgetting.
00:01:54.020 The big news yesterday, of course, was the by-election. And, you know, we really can't
00:01:59.900 miss that. I think this is the most cogent remark made about it from Terry Newman over at the National
00:02:06.680 Post. There are no more safe spaces for Trudeau's Liberals. Montreal by-election loss proves it.
00:02:16.140 Yes, the Liberals lost in Montreal. And, you know, let me have a look at the, you know,
00:02:25.040 here's the results from Elections Canada, which I was watching last night. I couldn't believe
00:02:30.540 how slow these things came in. But we have a Louis-Philippe Sauvé of the Bloc Quebec Law winning
00:02:37.760 with under 30% of the vote. It was a really tight race. And the Liberal candidate came in the close
00:02:46.740 second. But, you know, close second, not good enough. Before we go, let's have a look at the
00:02:54.540 other Manitoba writing. Well, that was a little bit
00:03:04.500 tighter than a lot of people thought it would be. The new Democratic Party won.
00:03:10.100 Layla Dance came out on top with 48.1% of the vote. The Conservatives were close second with
00:03:16.620 about 44%. So I'm not sure if that's really good or bad news for the Conservatives. They really
00:03:24.580 didn't expect to win, but they did fairly good. So, you know, we got to give Paulie credit for that.
00:03:31.640 That was interesting. But of course, the NDP thought they'd win that. That's been an NDP
00:03:37.200 seat for all but one election in the last 25 years. Stephen Harper won it in 2011.
00:03:43.340 And it's been, Winnipeg, let's face it, going back to the 1919 general strike, Winnipeg is a
00:03:49.440 red city. And red in terms of what it means in Canada, not what it means in the U.S. And it's
00:03:56.440 almost been hard going for Conservatives in that city. So that's no surprise. But the big surprise,
00:04:05.180 of course, well, no surprise if you know, if you can read your tea leaves, your political tea leaves,
00:04:09.500 the Liberals lost big time in Montreal. Not because coming a close second didn't mean that
00:04:18.500 they weren't competitive. This was a seat, much like St. Paul's in Toronto, Toronto St. Paul's,
00:04:26.420 that had been Liberal for years. Montreal, you have to understand, is a Liberal stronghold. And even
00:04:34.540 during the Mulroney years, it tended to vote Liberal. You have to go back to the age of Sir John A.
00:04:39.780 MacDonald, when Montreal was not a Liberal city. It's very Liberal. It votes Liberal because it's the
00:04:48.600 English part of Quebec. It still speaks English as its business language. Most of the Anglophones are
00:04:57.840 living in the Montreal area. And it fears the separatists, the encroachment of the separatists.
00:05:05.680 So it's always voted for the strongest party. And that's in Quebec, that's traditionally been the
00:05:11.140 Liberal Party. So when the Liberals in Quebec, in Montreal, are deserting the Liberal Party for the
00:05:19.100 NDP and the Bloc. Something is definitely askew with the leadership and the policies of the Liberal Party.
00:05:28.540 So we shouldn't be surprised at the result. But bear in mind, this was a seat, a safe Liberal seat, held by
00:05:38.860 the former Justice Minister, David Lamedi. Yes, one of those February criminals who invoked the
00:05:50.420 Emergencies Act against the Freedom Convoy. Lamedi could see the writing on the wall for himself when he
00:05:57.340 resigned over a year ago. And that story had perfect closure last night when that seat did not go
00:06:08.560 to his successor. So what happened in the House of Commons yesterday? Interesting.
00:06:14.660 You're looking forward to this.
00:06:15.900 I have the honour to inform the House that the Clerk of the House has received from the Chief Electoral Officer a certificate of election and return of Mr. Stewart
00:06:22.000 I have the honour to inform the House that the Clerk of the House has received from the
00:06:40.720 Chief Electoral Officer a certificate of election and return of Mr. Stewart, member for the
00:06:47.160 Electoral District of Toronto-St. Paul.
00:06:52.160 This is very symbolic, because of course it was the by-election loss this summer of Toronto-St. Paul, a very stable vote for decades, went to a conservative, that was the beginning of the end of Justice League leadership.
00:07:11.160 So it's very apropos that the fall session of Parliament would begin with this new MP taking his seat.
00:07:19.160 The message here is clear, it's over for you gentlemen too. You lost a safe seat and you're going to lose one tonight.
00:07:26.160 There is a sense the Liberals are going to lose again that night.
00:07:32.160 Mr. Speaker, it is an honour to present to you Don Stewart, the member for the Electoral District of Toronto-St. Paul's.
00:07:41.160 He has taken the oath, signed the role and now claims the right to take his seat.
00:07:47.160 Let the honourable member take his seat.
00:07:50.160 Let the honourable member take his seat.
00:07:54.160 Now I get the hands take from the Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party.
00:08:10.160 And it's a proud moment, there's no question about that.
00:08:18.160 How long is he going to be sitting in that seat before the next election?
00:08:23.160 That's the real question, isn't it?
00:08:25.160 Because he's won the by-election and when he won that by-election, it looked pretty definite that we were going to have a fall 2025 election.
00:08:38.160 Because the NDP coalition was holding up.
00:08:41.160 Now, of course, it's an open question as to whether or not we're going to have a fall 2024 election.
00:08:49.160 It is a very good possibility.
00:08:52.160 Every day it becomes more of a probability.
00:08:55.160 Now, I predict that the NDP win in Winnipeg is going to save Jagmeet Singh's leadership for the moment.
00:09:05.160 Had he lost that seat to the Conservatives, the knives would have been out last night.
00:09:09.160 It would have been over for Jagmeet Singh.
00:09:11.160 This is why he's doing all of this.
00:09:13.160 This is why he's decided to rip up the coalition agreement with the Liberals.
00:09:19.160 This is why he's decided to stop supporting the consumer side of the climate tax, the carbon tax.
00:09:28.160 He's no longer talking like Justin Trudeau about carbon to pollution, carbon to pollution, and the carbon tax is effective.
00:09:37.160 Justin Trudeau is watching Question Period how betrayed he is.
00:09:42.160 He feels so betrayed.
00:09:44.160 And it just oozes out of his pores.
00:09:47.160 Jagmeet Singh saved his leadership last night.
00:09:49.160 But this is going to embolden him to say, hey, if I can win in Winnipeg, I think I can pick up seats.
00:09:56.160 I think I can pick up seats from the Liberals who are collapsing.
00:09:59.160 Every once in a while, there is a collapse with a federal party.
00:10:04.160 It happened in 1993 with the Federal Progressive Conservatives.
00:10:08.160 Remember that oxymoron of a party.
00:10:11.160 Brian Mulroney left that party in complete tatters.
00:10:15.160 And, of course, it was Kim Campbell took over the leadership.
00:10:21.160 Horrible, horrible leader.
00:10:24.160 Was very, very briefly the first prime minister, female prime minister of Canada.
00:10:29.160 Lost the ensuing election to Jean Chrétien.
00:10:33.160 Actually, over the H101 helicopter deal, because I was working at NDHQ at the time.
00:10:38.160 And it was all over for the Progressive Conservatives at that point.
00:10:42.160 They never recovered from that.
00:10:43.160 And we know what happened.
00:10:45.160 The Reform Party rose in the West, eventually gobbled up what was left of the Progressive Conservative Party.
00:10:52.160 And now it's the it's really a conservative party again under peer polio.
00:10:58.160 So, you know, these are things that happened.
00:11:02.160 The Liberal Party right now is headed for that kind of extinction in the next election.
00:11:07.160 I don't know if it's going to be permanent, but they're headed for a catastrophic election loss.
00:11:12.160 And they could come in fourth very, very easily.
00:11:16.160 And the NDP could be at the official opposition again, as they were under Jack Layton.
00:11:21.160 And in those days, the Liberals were a backbench party.
00:11:25.160 They were they were they had third and fourth party status at times.
00:11:29.160 It very easily could happen again.
00:11:31.160 The writing is on the wall.
00:11:33.160 And that's what that by-election in Montreal said last night to Justin Trudeau.
00:11:36.160 Of course, Trudeau says he's not going to race.
00:11:38.160 He's already said win or lose in Montreal.
00:11:40.160 I'm staying on as leader.
00:11:42.160 Or have you heard that before?
00:11:44.160 I mean, literally 24 hours before Joe Biden was pushed out of the Democratic presidential candidacy, he said, I'm not going anywhere.
00:11:56.160 I'm not leaving.
00:11:57.160 I'm running again.
00:11:58.160 I am going to seek reelection.
00:12:00.160 24 hours before he was thrown out on his ass and he and he announced it's time to hand the torch to a new generation.
00:12:08.160 I've seen the light.
00:12:11.160 Justin Trudeau can see the light, too.
00:12:13.160 When those Liberal Party backroom bosses, the donors, the people with the money who write the checks, who do the big E transfers, when they say, Justin, it's over.
00:12:24.160 You've destroyed the Liberal Party.
00:12:26.160 You have to go.
00:12:27.160 And we might be able to resuscitate it.
00:12:30.160 We might be able to resurrect it with a new leader.
00:12:33.160 Yeah.
00:12:34.160 Named Mark Carney.
00:12:36.160 That's where they're putting all of their eggs in the Mark Carney basket.
00:12:39.160 They've got nobody else.
00:12:42.160 What?
00:12:43.160 Christia Freeland?
00:12:45.160 Mark Miller?
00:12:47.160 Melanie Jolie?
00:12:49.160 No.
00:12:50.160 All we've got is Mark Carney.
00:12:51.160 And they're going to they're going to sell him as the antidote to Justin Trudeau.
00:12:55.160 Although all he is is a clone of Justin Trudeau.
00:12:58.160 He's the same globalist.
00:12:59.160 He's the same dangerous man.
00:13:01.160 He's the same guy with no ideas that he doesn't get from the World Economic Forum.
00:13:06.160 And the Bilderberg system.
00:13:08.160 And that's exactly what they would be getting.
00:13:11.160 But that's the plan.
00:13:12.160 So Justin Trudeau can say all he wants.
00:13:14.160 I'm not going anywhere.
00:13:15.160 Really not his decision to make.
00:13:17.160 It was not his decision to be the Liberal Party leader.
00:13:20.160 He was put there by larger forces.
00:13:23.160 He was sustained by larger forces.
00:13:25.160 And he's going to be taken down by larger forces than he.
00:13:28.160 Now, let's watch a little of the question period yesterday because it's quite, quite fascinating.
00:13:33.160 Because I love what Paul Yev said to Trudeau when he said, you know, it's over.
00:13:43.160 The Right Honourable Prime Minister.
00:13:46.160 What we're doing, Mr. Speaker, when we announced in Quebec a significant investment in Telesat to create good jobs in Quebec, which will have.
00:13:58.160 Okay, this is the, Trudeau couldn't stand the fact that Elon Musk said, I can do this for half the price.
00:14:04.160 I can provide internet service to rural Canada for half the price of your Telesat.
00:14:11.160 Your Liberal crony friends can provide it.
00:14:14.160 This is, don't give me the bulk of this BS about this being about Canadian jobs.
00:14:18.160 This is about supplying Trudeau's Liberal friends with money.
00:14:23.160 And Trudeau hates the fact that the Conservatives found a cheaper option.
00:14:29.160 Have an impact on productivity and national security in Canada and all around the world.
00:14:33.160 The Conservative response was to call their friend Elon Musk to say, no, you can't send those jobs here to Canada.
00:14:42.160 Let's have a look. What's he talking about?
00:14:46.160 This.
00:14:49.160 The industry minister is so upset that Michael Barrett got a response from Elon Musk about how much would it cost to have rural service provided.
00:15:01.160 Elon Musk said half of what Telesat is offering.
00:15:04.160 Starlink can do it for half the price.
00:15:06.160 That's what this is all about.
00:15:08.160 Terrible.
00:15:09.160 And by the way, Elon Musk is a Canadian citizen.
00:15:12.160 He has dual citizenship.
00:15:14.160 Actually, true?
00:15:16.160 No.
00:15:17.160 Triple, triple citizenship.
00:15:20.160 South Africa, Canada, and South Africa.
00:15:24.160 Let's go back to it.
00:15:25.160 Trudeau doesn't know this.
00:15:26.160 Instead, you should be giving your money to American billionaires.
00:15:31.160 We find that completely far-fetched.
00:15:35.160 We are here to invest in Quebecers for the future.
00:15:38.160 He's a Canadian billionaire.
00:15:39.160 Go go.
00:15:40.160 After nine years of NDP Liberals, taxes up, costs up, crimes up, times up.
00:15:52.160 Times up.
00:15:53.160 And now he wants a 300% carbon tax hike all the way up to $0.61 a litre.
00:15:58.160 Why not let Canadians choose a common-sense, conservative government that will axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget, and stop the crime now?
00:16:10.160 Time's up.
00:16:11.160 That was beautiful.
00:16:13.160 I don't always praise anything that is said in the House of Commons.
00:16:17.160 And because, you know, he gets into sloganeering again, axe the tax, build the homes, stop the crime.
00:16:23.160 It's sloganeering, but that was inspired.
00:16:26.160 Time's up.
00:16:28.160 Very good.
00:16:29.160 And that is exactly what it is for Justin Trudeau.
00:16:32.160 The writing is on the wall.
00:16:33.160 That's a cliché, but it comes from the Book of Daniel, by the way.
00:16:36.160 If you ever wondered, where does that come from?
00:16:39.160 The writing was on the wall about the fall of the Babylonian Empire.
00:16:46.160 Well, the fall of the Trudeau Empire is on the wall, is being written on the wall right now.
00:16:51.160 And last night was a part of that.
00:16:53.160 And what Pierre Pauliev said here is just so apropos.
00:16:57.160 The Right Honourable Prime Minister.
00:17:02.160 If the opposition has spent any time listening to Canadians over the summer, he would have heard that they need solutions.
00:17:08.160 They need answers to the challenges they're facing.
00:17:11.160 That's not what he's offering.
00:17:12.160 Indeed, he doesn't care about Canadians.
00:17:14.160 He just cares about himself and his own political.
00:17:17.160 How many times have I said Justin Trudeau is an expert at projection, at distraction?
00:17:25.160 Like the Democrats in the United States who accused Donald Trump of everything they're doing, like persecuting their political enemies, like taking away free speech, like destroying democracy.
00:17:35.160 Justin Trudeau accuses Pierre Pauliev and the Conservatives of doing everything he's doing.
00:17:40.160 Justin Trudeau is the consummate narcissistic individual.
00:17:43.160 He's the consummate egotist.
00:17:45.160 He's the consummate politician who doesn't care about anything except his own political future.
00:17:51.160 And when he knows it's over in Canada, he's going to know he's got a future with the globalists, he's got a future with the UN, WEF, or someone giving the orders to Canada.
00:18:06.160 And that's where Justin Trudeau's mind is going.
00:18:10.160 We're going to keep focused on doing the things that he refuses to do, whether it's him voting against dental care, whether it's against him voting against childcare, whether it's him voting against a national school food program.
00:18:22.160 We're going to still deliver the things that matter to Canadians, like food in kids' bellies, childcare spaces, and supports for seniors to go to the dentist, many of them first time in years.
00:18:35.160 The Honourable Leader of the Opposition.
00:18:39.160 Children are hungrier than ever after nine years of the NDP Liberals.
00:18:43.160 In fact, 25% of them are not getting enough food.
00:18:45.160 And we now know why a carbon tax fraud has been perpetrated by this NDP Liberal Prime Minister who kept secret Environment Canada documents that showed that the carbon tax was blowing a $25 billion hole in our economy.
00:19:02.160 Our economy per capita is smaller today than it was 10 years ago, during which time the American economy has grown by 19%.
00:19:10.160 Instead of a reckless plan to hike the tax to $0.61 a liter, why not allow Canadians to vote to axe the tax?
00:19:17.160 The right Honourable Prime Minister.
00:19:21.160 Here's a news flash for the Conservative leader.
00:19:24.160 Climate change costs money.
00:19:26.160 And what would cost the most money to Canadians at all is his do-nothing climate plan.
00:19:32.160 Once again, the assumption that climate change has anything at all to do with all of these catastrophes that Justin Trudeau lists here.
00:19:44.160 Floods.
00:19:45.160 Fires.
00:19:46.160 He blames it all on climate change.
00:19:49.160 This is absolutely asinine.
00:19:51.160 This is a gong show of a government.
00:19:54.160 And this is a poor excuse for a political leader to suggest it's all climate change.
00:20:01.160 And the more money we waste on fighting climate change, the more we're going to save on floods.
00:20:06.160 There won't be any more floods.
00:20:08.160 And this is just, you have to be absolutely unhinged and without any thoughts in your head to actually buy this.
00:20:17.160 News flash.
00:20:20.160 When the Toronto subway gets flooded, it costs money.
00:20:24.160 News flash.
00:20:25.160 And climate change is behind the Toronto subway getting flooded.
00:20:29.160 What kind of a moron would even say that?
00:20:32.160 When fire forest fires hit communities across this country, it costs Canadians money to rebuild.
00:20:38.160 When you have droughts that hit farmers and agricultures across this country, it costs money.
00:20:44.160 What doesn't cost money is putting money in eight out of ten of Canadians' pockets with the Canada carbon rebate to support their families and fight climate change.
00:20:54.160 He can't even get his own talking points down.
00:20:56.160 He's stuttering and sputtering.
00:20:59.160 How many times has he said that his stupid carbon rebate, Canadian carbon rebate, puts money back in the pockets of eight out of ten Canadians?
00:21:10.160 Even I can repeat his talking points.
00:21:12.160 I've heard them so often.
00:21:13.160 But Justin Trudeau can't even remember.
00:21:15.160 The Honorable Leader of the Opposition.
00:21:19.160 Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister just proved my point.
00:21:26.160 His tax doesn't stop floods, fires or droughts.
00:21:30.160 All it does is create more poverty.
00:21:33.160 This also from a high-flying, high-taxing, high-carbon hypocrite who flew 92,000 kilometres in a fuel-guzzling tax-funded private jet while he taxes single moms and seniors for heating their homes.
00:21:49.160 Now, Carbon Tax Carney wants him to put the tax back on home heating oil.
00:21:56.160 Will he reject Carbon Tax Carney and instead allow Canadians to choose to tax the tax?
00:22:02.160 And that, my friends, was the highlight of Question Period yesterday.
00:22:12.160 In just a couple of minutes, Polyev managed to expose Trudeau as a liar about the effectiveness, the efficacy of the carbon tax.
00:22:22.160 It does nothing to stop floods or famine or drought.
00:22:27.160 No thing.
00:22:28.160 Polyev really wanted to say climate change is not responsible because he's not there yet.
00:22:34.160 Because you say that it's going to be a media firestorm.
00:22:37.160 You can't.
00:22:38.160 That makes him a climate change denier.
00:22:41.160 So what he said was, Trudeau's carbon tax doesn't do anything to stop these things.
00:22:46.160 And that's undeniable.
00:22:47.160 Trudeau would admit that.
00:22:49.160 His climate tax has done nothing to stop it.
00:22:52.160 We've had his climate tax, his carbon tax for years now.
00:22:55.160 And it's done nothing to stem any of these floods or droughts or fires.
00:23:00.160 We keep having them.
00:23:01.160 So obviously his carbon tax isn't working.
00:23:03.160 But Polyev was able to say the other elephant in the room is that our standard of living is declining.
00:23:13.160 And I showed you that chart the other day.
00:23:16.160 Our standard of living is declining vis-a-vis the United States.
00:23:20.160 Trudeau keeps lying about us being number one in the G7 for debt to ratio.
00:23:26.160 We're number one in foreign investment.
00:23:28.160 It's all lies.
00:23:29.160 The economy is shrinking in Canada.
00:23:31.160 And as I've said, the liberals have been stealing from the pension fund for years.
00:23:35.160 And that's how they make up the difference.
00:23:37.160 They've been playing wacky math with Canadians for years.
00:23:41.160 And that's how they do it.
00:23:42.160 So Polyev decimated Trudeau again yesterday in question period.
00:23:47.160 All Trudeau can do is stand up and sputter about his carbon rebate and about how effective his government is at giving dental care to children who can't use it and elderly people who have no teeth left.
00:24:00.160 So it's absolutely bizarre, but this is a prime minister on the ropes and he will continue to be on the ropes until a non-confidence motion defeats this government.
00:24:11.160 Stay tuned, people, because it's going to happen in the fall and we're going to have a November election.
00:24:18.160 My prediction, a November election.
00:24:21.160 And it remains to be seen whether or not the liberals do that under Justin Trudeau.
00:24:28.160 They might well do it.
00:24:30.160 Trudeau might agree to have this election to save his political skin because he really believes when the chips are down, Canadians love him.
00:24:40.160 Canadians will vote for his party again and they want another four years of Justin Trudeau.
00:24:47.160 He believes that because he is a narcissistic person.
00:24:52.160 Thanks for watching today, folks.
00:24:54.160 I'll be back again tomorrow.
00:24:56.160 And I tell you, these are exciting times.
00:24:59.160 There's so much to look at.
00:25:01.160 We'll spend a little more time tomorrow talking about what's happening with the latest assassination attempt.
00:25:08.160 But we'll keep keep our fingers on what's happening with Justin Trudeau and the demise of the Liberal Party.
00:25:14.160 Thank you for watching.
00:25:15.160 We'll be back again tomorrow with all the news you need to know.
