00:33:23.000Amid new whistleblower revelations of Boeing's systematic sacrifice of passenger safety to boost profits, Democratic-controlled Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations held a hearing Tuesday aimed at rehabilitating the megacorporation and military contractor.
00:33:41.000It's been more than five years since a total of 346 men, women and children died in two separate crashes just months apart.
00:33:48.000Part of the problems with a particular aircraft that had a defective automated anti-stall system that the company knew to be potentially deadly.

00:34:45.000When you read a statement from Pfizer or Boeing or whatever, in fact the whole point of branding is to kind of personify a for-profit or potentially on occasion bureaucratic entity.

00:35:05.000Unless, of course, you were a nominated hero of the establishment, then, you know, like many of the people in the public eye that have participated in mass slaughter, you would be celebrated, laurelled and lauded as a hero.
00:35:20.000Boeing are going through a PR exercise, not a tribunal or a trial.
00:35:26.000There have been no criminal prosecutions of the company or its executives.
00:35:29.000Instead, in keeping with the modus operandi of capitalism and the rule of the corporate financial oligarchy, Boeing has been allowed to continue violating federal safety regulations and cutting production corners in order to boost its bottom line and shore up its stock price.

00:35:54.000Think of any environmental disaster or any human disaster and think about how state institutions like the judiciary or whatever senate subcommittee, this one permanent subcommittee, Whatever is being deployed, whatever bureaucratic device is being deployed, how are they going to act independently?
00:36:11.000In the same way that the FDA is funded by pharmaceutical companies and therefore cannot successfully or meaningfully regulate pharmaceutical companies, how can these organizations claim to be objective?
00:36:22.000The whole point of this is to ensure that the system slickly continues providing us with a sort of a convenient and enjoyable spectacle of justice.
00:36:33.000They know what the principles, virtues, and values we aspire to are, and as long as they can give you a satsfaksimile of that, they're satisfied that we won't ask questions.
00:36:44.000But Boeing has taken it so far to the edge, that now these questions are out in the open.

00:36:58.000A series of whistleblowers have come forward to denounce the company for ignoring production standards in order to increase output and for threatening or exacting retaliation for their efforts to uphold legal requirements.
00:37:09.000Since January, two Boeing whistleblowers have died under mysterious circumstances with very little attention paid by the media.
00:37:17.000We're kind of incapable, aren't we, of maintaining focus.

00:37:32.000Tuesday's Senate hearing was stage managed to give the appearance of what the subcommittee chairman Richard Blumenthal called a reckoning for Boeing and the featured witness CEO David Calhoun.
00:37:42.000There were criticisms directed at Calhoun from politicians of both parties, but the entire procedure was a charade.
00:37:48.000Blumenthal called for a new management team to restore the company's credibility.
00:37:53.000We're here because we want Boeing to succeed.
00:38:21.000We're here because we want Boeing to succeed, he said, adding in reference to Boeing's McDonnell Douglas division.
00:38:26.000For the sake of our military, because, as you know, Boeing don't just make airplanes somewhat haphazardly, you know, seemingly using extraordinary techniques, bubble gum and sticky back plastic and...
