00:07:24.000 When we left, not only is there no chess scene in England like there's in America, in America, there's lots of chess in the schools and these kind of things.

00:07:33.000 So, for a while, I was kind of lost, I would say.

00:07:35.000 I had four hours free a day that I never used to previously have.

00:07:39.000 And I mean, I didn't get into too much trouble or too much mischief, but I was certainly a bit, how can I replace.

00:07:46.000 This thing I used to do all of the time.

00:07:48.000 What did you replace it with?

00:07:49.000 I ended up replacing it with fighting.

00:07:51.000 Yeah, from a young age.

00:07:52.000 From around about 15, 16, I started kickboxing.

00:07:55.000 And I think that fighting and chess are extremely similar.

00:07:58.000 To me, they aligned, they fulfilled the same gaps in my psyche, right?

00:08:01.000 People always say, How did you go from being a chess player, which everyone sees as geeky, to a kickboxer?

00:08:07.000 And I said, Well, chess is one on one battle, right?

00:08:10.000 That's all it is.

00:08:11.000 There's no luck involved, there's no team, there's no wind that can blow the ball.

00:08:14.000 There's no, you know, it's one on one, it's a fight.

00:08:16.000 If you lose, you messed up.

00:08:18.000 And fighting feels the same for me.

00:08:19.000 So for me, I thought, well, okay, I can't learn chess well enough without a coach.

00:08:24.000 And I can't find a coach in the UK who I trust to teach me chess, but I can find a coach who can teach me to kick people's ass.

00:08:29.000 So that's kind of how it started.

00:08:30.000 How did you end up going through the ranks and winning world titles?

00:08:33.000 Fighting's kind of weird, right?

00:08:35.000 I think if you talk to any fighter, everyone who starts, I mean, lots of people say they had aspirations of being the world title, the world champion at the beginning.

00:08:43.000 I just turned up to training one step at a time, right?

00:08:45.000 I just wanted to be good.

00:08:47.000 So my coach said, you have to train seven times a week.

00:08:49.000 I was like, okay.

00:08:49.000 So I just obeyed.

00:08:51.000 I was just a worker ant.

00:08:52.000 I just did as I was told.

00:08:53.000 And then you win and you win again and you win again.

00:08:55.000 Then you get a title shot, you win.

00:08:56.000 And before you know it, you get up there.

00:08:58.000 My first ever world title fight was on three days' notice.

00:09:01.000 So someone pulled out and I had three days' notice.

00:09:02.000 I had to lose nine kilos in three days.

00:09:04.000 I turned up.

00:09:05.000 Obviously, I was completely destroyed from the weight cut.

00:09:07.000 Everyone expected me to lose.

00:09:09.000 And I won.

00:09:12.000 And I'll say I won because I did win.

00:09:14.000 They gave the decision to the other guy.

00:09:15.000 It was in France and it was in Paris and it was me against the French world champion.

00:09:18.000 They gave it to him.

00:09:19.000 But I whooped his ass, right?

00:09:20.000 And we submitted the video to the ISKA, the organization, and they demanded a rematch because it was so obvious I won.

00:09:25.000 And we fought again, and without the big weight cut problem, I knocked him out in the eighth.

00:09:29.000 And I became world champion for the first time.

00:09:34.000 It was good, but you know, like, I don't ever feel like I'm satisfied.

00:09:37.000 I never, like, won the world title and go, Yes, I'm the champ now.

00:09:46.000 I've always kind of felt, without sounding like a crazy conspiracy theorist, even now to this day, I feel.
