The Anchormen Show with Matt Gaetz - Episode 99 - Explosive Highlights from a Historic Debate. Breaking the Sound Barrier...By Accident. A Hot Mic Hot Take on Masks.

00:00:00.000 you ever watch this guy on television you all were not telling the truth and you should not

00:00:06.100 be trusted congressman matt gates thank you for what you did for your country today be offended

00:00:09.760 with the democratic whip not house republicans like a machine matt gates

00:00:13.940 welcome to hot takes i'm congressman matt gates let's talk about the news boy was that presidential

00:00:22.380 debate engaging and provocative and interesting although some wish that maybe we would have had

00:00:29.820 a little more clarity on vision you know in a prior episode of the podcast i warned that this

00:00:35.320 debate would be less serviceable to the country if it was two men in their 70s arguing over grievances

00:00:41.720 regarding the worst parts of the status quo and i thought the winner of the debate would be the

00:00:46.600 person that maybe said the fewest words and i also thought that the winner of the debate would be

00:00:51.700 whichever candidate could use maybe a light moment of humor uh self-effacing humor and certainly vision

00:00:59.220 vision for the country where we're going how they're going to get us here and it appears that

00:01:04.600 neither candidate took my advice in that regard instead choosing to hurl insults at one another

00:01:09.740 i know there are many people who don't like the president who will see the traits that they didn't

00:01:15.640 like reflected in the debate similarly those who were concerned about the fragility of joe biden

00:01:21.320 likely did not have that alleviated he seemed to struggle to complete sentences and thoughts

00:01:27.060 and one could only imagine how he would complete on the execution of any major policy reforms given

00:01:34.140 that frailty clearly on display i had the opportunity to discuss the debate right afterwards on the sean

00:01:40.540 hannity program take a listen joe biden did look frail here's the question america which of those two

00:01:46.300 men are you picking to go up against president xi in a negotiation about your job i'm picking trump

00:01:52.800 i'm not picking slow basement dwelling joe biden i'll tell you who qasem soleimani and al-bagdadi

00:01:59.740 and osama bin laden would pick they'd pick joe biden you know trump killed two of them and joe biden was

00:02:05.680 against killing the third and so i think that the president wins the debate also when he makes joe

00:02:10.820 biden the candidate of lockdowns president trump showed empathy when he talked about the impacts of

00:02:16.120 these lockdowns on people's lives and that's not washington nonsense that's exactly what's happening

00:02:22.200 at the kitchen table for america's families and i think also president trump made joe biden the

00:02:27.300 candidate of the mob it was just sad when trump pressed joe biden for a single law enforcement

00:02:32.540 organization that supported him and by the way sean mostly they support democrats their unions these

00:02:38.200 are police unions that in a lot of state in local races back the democrat candidate but they're all

00:02:43.480 backing president trump because they see joe biden the candidate of the mob very effective night for the

00:02:49.000 president he was the only strong leader in the debate he came prepared for the debate and he

00:02:52.720 probably came prepared to moderate it i thought president trump's questions were better than

00:02:56.140 chris wallace's and it's true we want trump on that wall we need trump on that wall washington is a town

00:03:02.960 that needs to be interrupted if you don't have interrupters in washington dc you just get more of the

00:03:08.800 same people telling you how things always used to be and how the machinery of the entrenched

00:03:14.940 interests really ought to continue operating with the rest of us just standing by and looking and

00:03:20.500 observing president trump in his interviews and his rallies and his exchanges with political opponents

00:03:26.980 is on the balls of his feet he's sharp and that sharpness i think sometimes can cut both ways for him

00:03:34.500 with some groups of voters but all in all i think the president did have the stronger performance and

00:03:40.140 it's very significant that joe biden becomes the candidate of lockdowns we're going to listen to

00:03:44.540 some clips in a moment i'm going to really try to condense this debate so that if you didn't see it

00:03:49.240 you get some of the hot exchanges and key moments but i do think when the president talks about the impact

00:03:56.200 of these lockdowns on people's lives and when he talks about joe biden as the lockdown candidate and

00:04:01.380 the candidate of the mobs it is central to the president's strategy and it will move those voters

00:04:06.720 to vote for the president who may not like him i mean look we all know that in 2016 president trump

00:04:11.800 won this election because people who don't like him personally were willing to vote for him based on

00:04:17.260 what they believe he could do for the country and i think that talking about the 10.4 million jobs that

00:04:22.560 have been onboarded since coronavirus talking about our economic success before coronavirus showcasing

00:04:29.080 the policy choices that led to that success certainly is the way the president is going to get the votes

00:04:35.840 of people who again may not like the style may not like the tweets but who sure like the roaring

00:04:41.460 trump economy and the sense of prosperity that america has enjoyed so i want to give you a chance

00:04:46.560 to listen to that clip and plenty more from last night's debate we closed it down and now we're

00:04:51.200 reopening and we're doing record business we had 10.4 million people in a four-month period that we've

00:04:56.860 put back into the workforce that's a record the likes of which nobody's ever seen before he doesn't

00:05:01.900 have any law would you support he has no law enforcement that's not true almost that's not

00:05:07.400 that look all right who do you have name one group that supports you name one group that came out

00:05:12.140 and supported you go ahead think we have time we don't have time to do anything all right

00:05:17.280 all right one law enforcement group that came out and i think i'm going to i'm going to take back

00:05:23.600 the moderator yes there is there's just systemic injustice in this country let me just tell you

00:05:30.060 joe i've done more in in 47 months i've done more than you've done in 47 years joe we've done things

00:05:37.340 that you never even thought of okay president trump you're holding large rallies with crowds packed

00:05:42.220 together thousands of people outside outside yes sir agreed uh vice president biden you are holding

00:05:48.640 much smaller uh events with nobody will show up people with did you use the word smart uh so you

00:05:56.820 said you went to delaware state but you forgot the name of your college you didn't go to delaware

00:06:01.580 state you graduated either the lowest or almost the lowest in your class don't ever use the word smart

00:06:07.360 with me don't ever use that word oh give me a break because you know what and there's nothing smart

00:06:11.940 about you joe 47 years you've done let's have this debate if you would have had let me just tell you

00:06:16.420 something joe now if you would have had the charge of what i was put through i had to close the

00:06:22.560 greatest economy in the history of our country and by the way now it's being built again you see

00:06:26.880 the economy in the next segment sir president trump did a phenomenal job we did we got the gowns we got

00:06:33.480 the masks we made the ventilators you wouldn't have made ventilators and now we're weeks away from a

00:06:38.440 vaccine but i'll tell you joe you could never have done the job that we did you don't have it in

00:06:42.520 your blood you could have never done that you i beat bernie sanders not by much i beat him a whole

00:06:47.360 hell of a lot i'm here i'm here standing facing you o'clock hunters would have left two days early

00:06:51.780 you would have lost every primary knows how to do it on super tuesday you got very lucky

00:06:55.540 director of national intelligence john ratcliffe sent a very significant letter recently to judiciary

00:07:05.560 chairman lindsey graham regarding the russia hoax i had a chance to discuss right as this was

00:07:11.840 happening on lou dobbs take a listen i am very disappointed that we are not getting indictments

00:07:17.060 from john durham before the election but just the clinesmith indictment shows that you've got more

00:07:23.900 people that have committed crimes at the fbi than you ever had in the trump campaign or in the trump

00:07:28.500 white house but remember lou it was myself and jim jordan mark meadows who back in 2017 said that we

00:07:35.640 don't we needed a special counsel to investigate the activities of hillary clinton and had we done that 1.00

00:07:41.580 we would have known what john ratcliffe just told us well before but we had the spineless speaker

00:07:46.840 paul ryan who blocked us at every turn you know he acted like we were the tinfoil hat wearing crazy

00:07:52.820 republicans but the reality is we were telling the american people the truth people in washington on

00:07:57.940 both sides of the aisle were lying to the american people and now we know exactly where the russia hoax

00:08:03.420 began exactly what the purpose was and you know what this mail-in ballot nonsense the ballot harvesting

00:08:09.000 that's the new russia they're going to use ballot harvesting to try to delegitimize what will almost 0.64

00:08:15.400 certainly be a win for president trump on election day and you talked in your reporting about the

00:08:19.880 importance of this debate i guess joe biden didn't get his two breaks i think earlier he'd requested

00:08:24.520 nap time or something like that but when you talk about businesses outside boarding up they're not

00:08:29.440 boarding up for people with maga hats you know nobody with a maga hat is running down the streets

00:08:33.760 setting stuff on fire trying to destroy our nation it's the radical left that threatens safety and

00:08:39.600 security and tranquility on our streets that should be the central point that donald trump makes joe biden

00:08:45.640 will allow the portland woketopia to take over america this is still the greatest country in the

00:08:52.080 world you write about it in trump's century and it's still a country worth fighting for it is very

00:08:56.160 consequential that hillary clinton cooked up the russia hoax fed it to the obama team and then used it as

00:09:04.000 an excuse for the obama biden clinton team's policy failures and hillary clinton's election losses

00:09:11.760 everything we were saying about this being a setup about the president being targeted about bias at the

00:09:18.000 fbi and the department of justice a willingness to carry out the most devious plans cooked up by hillary 0.80

00:09:23.120 clinton it has all turned out to be true how fake the russia hoax really was

00:09:32.720 there are a lot of flash polls that come out following these presidential debates some have an

00:09:38.160 ideological tilt based on who they survey some do not telemundo had one that caught my eye in the

00:09:46.160 flash telemundo poll two-thirds of respondents saying that donald trump won the debate only one-third

00:09:52.400 saying that joe biden won the debate and if you've been listening to the podcast we've been

00:09:56.800 chronicling this movement of hispanic voters toward donald trump in a substantial degree i think if

00:10:02.880 there was any one issue any one substantive policy matter discussed that likely influenced that telemundo

00:10:09.920 poll with a lot of hispanic respondents it would likely be just the inability of joe biden to distance

00:10:15.840 himself from the mob from the chaos and destruction and arson that has been visited upon

00:10:22.400 too many american cities and communities and that is not something that the hispanic voters that i've

00:10:28.080 spoken to in florida want to see and it very well may be why the president continues to do well

00:10:34.320 with this key demographic it'll matter in florida it'll matter in arizona it'll matter in texas and 0.99

00:10:39.520 look you know even in places like pennsylvania and michigan where thousands of votes hundreds of

00:10:45.120 votes may decide the election everyone is key and this major shift certainly enores to the benefit of

00:10:50.960 the president pennsylvania governor tom wolf on the hot mic saying that masks are political theater

00:11:01.280 take a listen so wendy i'm gonna take i'm gonna take my mask off i don't as well i'm just i'm waiting

00:11:07.760 so that we can do a little political theater okay so that it's on camera it does feel sometimes at

00:11:16.240 public events where you're outside or where you've got a lot of sunlight directly on you or whether

00:11:21.680 it's windy and you've got distance that people do feel pressured to wear the mask over the virtue

00:11:27.040 signaling i still support wearing a mask i wear one when i'm close to folks as much as practical i'm

00:11:33.280 sure i could be even better at it but it's just indicative of the way people view politics to see

00:11:41.040 folks saying one thing doing another and then expecting everyone to sort of watch the show and

00:11:46.880 adhere to it and i think that we ought to be honest if we have disagreements with the mass policy if

00:11:53.600 masks aren't necessary in a particular setting we shouldn't just wear them for the virtue signal

00:12:02.880 if you happen to be in paris france last night and you heard a loud noise that sounded like an

00:12:08.320 explosion french police have confirmed that it wasn't a fighter jet was flying over paris and

00:12:14.560 i guess accidentally broke the sound barrier and so that noise was a sonic boom from that experience and

00:12:22.080 i wonder how you even accidentally break the sound barrier i wonder if there's a fighter pilot in

00:12:27.520 trouble for that that can have quite the effect and certainly the people of paris were initially

00:12:32.640 concerned but now can rest easy it's not the sound of an explosion it's the sound of freedom it's the

00:12:38.880 sound of your military protecting you we hope no one was injured by the noise we hope everyone is

00:12:44.480 able to get back to normal in paris france whatever that may be thanks for listening to hot takes i'm
