00:00:30.000 All right, so Kevin McCarthy is out as Speaker of the House.
00:00:40.520 He's the first guy to get removed from that position by a motion to vacate vote,
00:00:45.400 which is kind of interesting.
00:00:46.820 A lot of people are very angry about this.
00:00:49.320 Some people are very happy about this.
00:00:51.320 And a lot of people are saying,
00:00:52.420 I don't think this is going to make a difference.
00:00:54.380 Let's go ahead and jump into what happened here and break this down.
00:00:57.340 So, it looks like McCarthy is out because he ended up getting in a back and forth with Matt
00:01:03.360 Gates of Florida.
00:01:05.180 McCarthy secured his position by guaranteeing a number of things to people like the Freedom
00:01:10.400 Caucus.
00:01:11.100 And one of the things that he promised was an end to continuing resolutions.
00:01:15.500 See, way back when I was a kid, the government actually voted on this thing called the budget.
00:01:20.300 Yeah, the power that Congress is supposed to have, the big power that it's supposed to be able to
00:01:25.040 wield is the power of the purse.
00:01:26.820 The reason Congress is supposed to be one of the most powerful, if not the most powerful
00:01:31.220 branch, the reason the House specifically is so powerful as the House of Representatives is its
00:01:37.680 ability to control funding, its ability to control how much money goes anywhere.
00:01:41.640 It's nice to have authority, but if you don't have money to fund all of those different
00:01:45.900 organizations, all of those different institutions, then they really don't matter.
00:01:50.440 And so, with the power of the purse, the House of Representatives is supposed to be able to
00:01:54.720 restrict the different things that the other branches can do.
00:01:58.340 But Congress has basically given up that ability.
00:02:00.800 The House has more or less handed that over to different parts of the executive branch,
00:02:05.720 especially due to the fact that they have just been passing these continuing resolutions.
00:02:10.580 Instead of looking at a real budget and having multiple votes over all these different issues,
00:02:16.220 basically, you just got one big block of funding.
00:02:18.960 You said yes to everything, or you said no to everything.
00:02:22.460 And this is why every congressman has these votes where, you know, during their campaign,
00:02:27.260 people can say, oh, he voted against money for the troops, or he voted against money for
00:02:31.480 senior citizens, or he voted against money for whatever group we're flogging today.
00:02:35.980 The whole reason they get to say that is because everything is wrapped up in these omnibus bills,
00:02:41.300 these one giant spending bills, and they just keep continuing that bill over and over again.
00:02:46.400 They don't actually do new individual budgets.
00:02:48.720 They don't actually do individual votes the way that it was intended.
00:02:52.120 And again, this is so much of why the House of Representatives and democracy in general
00:02:56.780 just has no real impact, because all of this stuff has been streamlined.
00:03:00.880 It has been more and more taken out of the hands of people who are supposed to represent
00:03:05.080 individual districts, individual interests.
00:03:07.760 And instead, it's been put into the hands of bureaucrats, been put into the hands of big
00:03:11.980 power brokers.
00:03:13.020 Everything is centralized behind just a few people who kind of bring this whole process together.
00:03:18.700 And one of the ideas about bringing McCarthy in was he was promising to end this.
00:03:24.920 Obviously, we know that the Republicans did not shut down the government.
00:03:29.040 They went ahead and decided to pass a bill that would keep the government open for like
00:03:33.560 45 days or whatever, keep all the money flowing.
00:03:36.780 And so this was kind of seen as the final straw, the final failure by Gates and many members
00:03:41.600 of his caucus, who then turned around and gave Democrats enough votes that they needed to
00:03:46.480 go ahead and vacate McCarthy from the seat.
00:03:50.320 Now, again, this has a lot of people very angry, especially people in the Republican establishment,
00:03:54.880 even some people who are against a lot of what's going on with the Republican establishment were
00:04:00.520 still very frustrated because they saw this as a failure to govern.
00:04:04.620 They saw this as as a petulant child striking out and getting revenge at somebody and and
00:04:10.280 just attacking leadership just for the sake of attacking leadership.
00:04:14.060 They didn't think there was a real political goal behind this.
00:04:16.860 And so they said this is just really immature.
00:04:19.280 This smacks of people who only want to tear things down, have no interest in actually building
00:04:23.700 things up. This is the attack that many people have leveled at Gates and those who decided to
00:04:28.740 push back and remove McCarthy from the seat.
00:04:31.000 Oh, you're not really helping advance the conservative agenda or anything with the Republican
00:04:35.360 Party. You're not really reforming anything.
00:04:37.340 You're just helping Democrats get rid of their enemy.
00:04:39.820 This has kind of been the storyline that a lot of people have had behind this.
00:04:43.740 And in some ways I can understand this, though, it's funny because a lot of these people
00:04:48.240 are way more angry, especially the never Trumpers or the very establishment conservatives.
00:04:53.040 They're far more angry about McCarthy being removed as Speaker than they are with Trump
00:04:59.940 being indicted. So they have McCarthy who gave this deal like he made this deal.
00:05:05.700 He made himself specifically vulnerable to removal for the ability to be held accountable.
00:05:11.200 That was the whole reason that the deal was structured in this way and that the vote could
00:05:15.000 be put forward this way. And then he didn't deliver on certain parts of the promise.
00:05:19.420 Now, maybe you could say, oh, well, he delivered on some or it's not prudent.
00:05:22.280 Those are reasonable arguments, I guess, to make. But the point is that there was a real
00:05:26.480 consequence for his inability to lead and to bring things forward in the manner he said he
00:05:30.780 was going to, as where Trump is literally just being prosecuted for the purpose of getting rid of
00:05:36.780 political opposition by the regime. The regime is wielding, you know, the law enforcement
00:05:42.700 powers, the judicial powers against somebody just because they happen to be the most prominent
00:05:47.520 candidate on the right, the opposition party of the GOP. And they seem really more angry about the
00:05:55.020 fact that McCarthy was removed than the fact that the guy who is the most powerful opponent,
00:06:01.180 the most prominent opponent of the sitting president of the United States is being indicted.
00:06:05.140 So really interesting way that we're distributing outrage here. But again, I don't think there's
00:06:09.800 no argument that's reasonable for people who wanted McCarthy to stay, who did not like this move.
00:06:16.680 But I just thought it was interesting, the amount of outrage we saw from certain sectors
00:06:19.980 of those who are representing this. Now, to the point of, is this just Gates wanting to be a rebel?
00:06:27.540 Does he just want to burn down things? Is this kind of MAGA caucus? Are they just out for revenge?
00:06:33.360 Do they really have any political aims? I think we have to look at McCarthy. Okay. I chose this
00:06:39.280 picture for a reason. McCarthy's on the floor with a lot of, to be fair, many, many different
00:06:46.140 Republican representatives, of course, along with Democratic representatives. And it's not about
00:06:51.400 America. It's not about displaying your loyalty to America. It's how much loyalty you can display
00:06:57.480 to Ukraine. And I think in a lot of ways, that is very representative of this era of Republican
00:07:04.300 politics. That really shows a lot of people what's going on here. People who were angry at the system
00:07:11.220 definitely voted Trump. That is a huge part of what Trump was. He was a reaction to this. A lot of
00:07:17.600 people want to go back and they want to speculate about, oh, Trump wasn't a good leader. He wasn't that
00:07:22.560 smart in office. He didn't get certain things done. He didn't behave himself well. Well, he failed
00:07:28.280 definitely during COVID. All those things are legitimate criticism. Those are all true about
00:07:33.280 Trump. I don't think Trump is a great statesman. I don't think he's some kind of Messiah figure.
00:07:38.040 I don't think he's somebody who even is particularly competent in certain roles. So I understand why a lot
00:07:43.640 of people have backlash towards him. I'm not against people having backlash towards him. What I want
00:07:49.680 people to understand, the thing that I'm constantly trying to encourage people to understand is what
00:07:53.580 Trump was, what he represented, what he meant. Look, some mediocre, you know, kind of buffoonish,
00:08:01.100 self-centered guy who's a host of a TV show, a reality TV show, doesn't become president in the United
00:08:07.720 States through a series of accidents. Okay. There was a message behind this. It's not just the voters
00:08:15.260 are dumb. That that's the wrong thing to take away from the Trump presidency. It's understanding
00:08:21.520 what Trump was. He was a middle finger to the establishment. People who would say, I would rather
00:08:26.680 vote for this guy who will say a few things that I really care about and will honestly try on a few
00:08:33.160 levels to advance the ideas and the issues I care about and will actually show love and dedication to
00:08:40.940 my country. I will vote for him over you, even though you're far more polished, you're far more
00:08:46.920 accomplished. You have all the bona fides, you have all the policies and procedures and everything down
00:08:52.340 because I don't trust you. I've seen your process. I've seen the establishment go through its process.
00:08:59.080 I've seen your experts. I've seen your well-educated people, your well-spoken people. I've seen you
00:09:04.160 with your different documents from different think tanks and bringing all your ideas forward and going
00:09:08.460 through this process and you betray me every single time. You lie to me every single time. When the
00:09:15.360 chips are down, you show that you are far more interested in retaining power to being on the side
00:09:21.820 of high-powered lobbyists, special interest groups, big money, and other people who can provide
00:09:27.320 corporate benefits, all these things that will give you what you want, the status, the money,
00:09:32.660 the reputation back home. You are far more interested in being part of the system
00:09:37.860 and defending the system. And no matter what you tell me about my issues, at the end of the day,
00:09:43.020 you're just going to keep going back to that. I've seen this before and I'm going to elect this guy.
00:09:47.760 And this guy, he may not have any of that stuff. He might be ridiculous, but what he is doing is
00:09:54.660 telling you that you are illegitimate, that you are fake, that you are liars. And he's telling me
00:10:01.260 that he cares about issues that you would never touch. And he's talking about them in a way that I
00:10:07.120 understand and the way that connects with the people around me. Again, that doesn't endorse
00:10:12.180 everything Trump did in office. It doesn't mean that he didn't make major mistakes. He obviously
00:10:16.100 did. It doesn't mean that he doesn't have massive flaws in character. He actually does. Okay. But we
00:10:21.840 need to understand what the MAGA movement is. Because if you don't understand what the MAGA movement
00:10:27.460 is, then you could be very confused about how this is all working.
00:10:31.720 So again, a lot of people, even people, you know, of course, establishment Republicans are furious at
00:10:37.300 this. Of course, never Trump Republicans are furious at this. How could you possibly remove
00:10:41.980 our milk toast, you know, run of the mill guy who's just going to maintain the status quo? They're very
00:10:48.040 angry about that. But to be fair, and again, I want to give people their due because there are people
00:10:52.020 who are respect who don't like this move. And for them, they're saying Republicans are refusing to
00:10:57.940 govern. The MAGA coalition is refusing to govern. They're just striking out. They're just being angry.
00:11:03.240 They just run revenge against the establishment. Even when some of these people aren't part of the
00:11:07.660 establishment, they're just going out to hurt something and strike something and they don't
00:11:11.700 care. And that's what happened here. Now, there's a lot of inside baseball here. Again, I think on the
00:11:17.740 face of it, McCarthy just didn't keep his promises. And to that point, you could just hold him
00:11:24.100 accountable there. And I think Gates is probably within his right to make that argument. Again,
00:11:28.680 maybe you don't think those, the breaking of those promises is severe enough. Maybe you think
00:11:32.680 the continuing resolution process is just a part of life and it's going to continue in perpetuity
00:11:38.100 and shutting down the government is a failing move for Republicans optically. I think there's probably
00:11:42.980 good strategic arguments for that. And so you're just making a practical argument here.
00:11:48.260 But here's the issue. And this is really what people who are trying to make that argument need to
00:11:53.140 understand. That when you try to make practical arguments, when you try to make arguments that say
00:11:59.160 we need to move the ball further down the field and it's about the process, you have to show real
00:12:05.980 results. And you have to show people that what they care about matters to you. People will only trust
00:12:12.800 you to move the ball down the field, you know, by inches if you've shown them that you are actually
00:12:19.800 committed to doing something that matters in their life. And when people, especially those who voted
00:12:25.300 for Trump, especially that MAGA coalition, look at people like Kevin McCarthy with his Ukraine pen on
00:12:33.000 and his Ukraine flag kerchief in his pocket, they don't see somebody who's fighting for them.
00:12:39.820 Kevin McCarthy is not somebody who has consistently shown deep ability to connect with the base,
00:12:46.620 deep ability to connect with the MAGA crowd. He is not somebody who has communicated the shared values
00:12:53.380 between him and the Republican voters. And they are sick and tired of people who will not do this.
00:12:58.600 There's no big changes happening at the border. There's no big changes happening on things like
00:13:03.400 the war in Ukraine. People are sick and tired of this stuff. They want this over. Now, obviously,
00:13:08.820 the House of Representatives by itself cannot do all of those things. But what they can do is use the
00:13:14.520 power of the purse. That's the one thing that they can continuously do without needing to have
00:13:20.120 approval from the courts or the Senate or the president. They can continuously put pressure
00:13:25.060 through that ability to wield the budget on the rest of the government. But they refuse to do it.
00:13:32.460 The FBI, we've just found out, again, we already knew this. But the FBI, again, Newsweek just recently
00:13:38.600 had another piece about how different parts of the security state apparatus are targeting people who
00:13:46.000 are Trump voters, targeting MAGA loyalists, right? We already know that they're the FBI sending people
00:13:52.280 into Catholic church services because they have the wrong prayers being said or they're adhering to the
00:13:59.740 old Latin mass. We already know that they target people like parents who don't want their kids trans
00:14:06.100 and are protesting at school board meetings. We already know that so many of these government
00:14:12.420 organizations are deeply corrupt, targeting the political opponents of their current masters,
00:14:19.020 going out of their way to shut down political opposition in the United States while it pretends
00:14:25.700 to be a free country, while it pretends to care about democracy, while it pretends to care about the rule
00:14:30.800 of law, while it pretends to care about the voice of the people. They know about this already, okay?
00:14:36.480 They already know these violations are going on. And what do they do? They just keep giving these
00:14:41.120 people money. They keep signing on to fork over money and pay every one of these agents who is destroying
00:14:48.560 their voters and destroying the people who wanted them to represent them. That's what he's doing.
00:14:55.840 He's shipping endless money to Ukraine. He's making no serious moves about the border or anything else.
00:15:02.960 And everybody knows it. Everybody knows this truth. And so when people look at guys like Kevin McCarthy,
00:15:09.200 they say, we're done with this. We are done with this. I don't care if the Republicans can't govern
00:15:15.520 in this scenario. They can't govern anyway. And when they do govern, all they do is hand money over to
00:15:22.080 our enemies. All they do is hand money over to people who want to destroy us or launder our tax
00:15:28.320 dollars through their defense contractor buddies and through all of their Ukrainian oligarch connections
00:15:35.040 into a place that has no relationship to our national security, just so they can continue to inflate our
00:15:42.160 money, make things worthless, make it harder and harder for people to make a living in the United States.
00:15:46.800 That's who the Republicans are. That's what they do. They're not an opposition party. They're not
00:15:52.080 providing any real pushback against these people. They are going to destroy our liberty. They are
00:15:57.600 going to take our money. They're going to send that money to their corrupt friends. They are going to
00:16:01.760 funnel all that money to all the agencies that are seeking to destroy the very people who vote for them.
00:16:07.120 So yes, this is about revenge. And yes, MAGA loyalists will continue to bring that attitude
00:16:16.720 to the Republican establishment until something is done because nothing is getting done and everybody
00:16:23.040 knows it. So sitting around and saying, we don't look responsible. We don't look like we're all on the
00:16:27.600 same page. Good. We're not on the same page. What's better than a well-marbled ribeye sizzling on the
00:16:33.360 barbecue? A well-marbled ribeye sizzling on the barbecue that was carefully selected by an
00:16:38.480 Instacart shopper and delivered to your door. A well-marbled ribeye you ordered without even
00:16:43.680 leaving the kiddie pool. Whatever groceries your summer calls for, Instacart has you covered.
00:16:49.600 Download the Instacart app and enjoy zero-dollar delivery fees on your first three orders.
00:16:54.400 Service fees, exclusions, and terms apply. Instacart, groceries that over-deliver.
00:16:59.760 These people do not represent the country. They do not represent conservatives. They do not represent
00:17:05.600 the GOP. They do not represent the wider Republican voting base, and they do not represent the right.
00:17:13.280 That is not who these people are. They are spoiled, corrupt swamp creatures. That's all there is to it.
00:17:19.600 Again, I understand the desire to have a disciplined, responsible Republican party who can get out there
00:17:27.920 and get things done on the behalf of the people. But that is not what we have. And pretending like
00:17:33.920 it's what we have, just because we show some moments of unity or professionalism, that's ridiculous.
00:17:39.920 These people should have rhetorical bombs thrown at them. They should be harried from the vanguard.
00:17:47.200 Okay? Yeah, I get it. Right now, you know, AOC is backing Joe Biden. She's showing her ability to be
00:17:54.720 behind what they're doing. But you know why? That's because the Biden administration is already going
00:17:58.480 to do everything she wants. Yeah, they might not do it as fast as she wants, but she's going to get
00:18:03.120 everything she wants from the people in leadership. If she wasn't, she would be holding these people
00:18:09.520 accountable. And you've seen this before. The left does do this. The left vanguard has held
00:18:14.160 their mainstream party accountable. They have held up proceedings. They have launched insurgencies
00:18:19.840 inside the party to make sure that they conform to what the radical part of the party wants.
00:18:25.680 Well, guess what? Conservatives need to learn a lesson from that. Okay? I'm sorry. But moderate
00:18:31.280 Republicans are not going to get anything done. Establishment Republicans are not going to get
00:18:35.280 anything done. They're going to continue to double down on this failed strategy. They're going to continue
00:18:40.320 to fund organizations that want to destroy the people that they're supposed to be protecting.
00:18:44.480 They're going to continue to ship tax dollars to foreign wars that we have no interest in being
00:18:49.840 involved in. Nobody wants to be a part of this who's part of the MAGA coalition. And I'm sorry,
00:18:55.920 but if the Republican party is just the party of rubber stamping the Democrats ideology, if they are just
00:19:02.240 as Michael Malice says, just the left going the speed limit, if that's all that the Republicans can be,
00:19:09.040 then they deserve to lose power. And the people who should be removing them for power should be
00:19:14.720 their vanguard, should be the MAGA coalition, should be people who don't want to continue to
00:19:20.480 see this. If you don't put pressure on leadership, if you don't show them real consequences for falling
00:19:27.120 short, they will continue to do so. Now, again, you can quibble over whether or not you like Matt
00:19:33.600 Gates. You can make decisions about whether or not you think that McCarthy's inability to bring
00:19:38.800 certain things forward was enough for him to remove. Those are fair talking points. You can have
00:19:43.920 that discussion. But if you do not understand that the MAGA coalition will continue to be outraged
00:19:50.720 and will continue to push back against this kind of stuff, then you don't understand what Trump was.
00:19:57.680 And you don't understand the magnitude of change that needs to occur. I'm all for better governance.
00:20:03.520 But you need to understand that the system has to be shaken to its core before this happens.
00:20:07.520 This is not about small little changes to what's going on that are going to fix this. You're not
00:20:13.440 going to have a slightly better appropriations process or slightly better different committee
00:20:18.640 assignments. And all of a sudden things will snap into place. There needs to be a major fear of the
00:20:23.680 base, a major fear of falling short of what real conservatives want. Okay. What real people on the
00:20:32.480 right want. If you do not have that fear instilled in these representatives of the fact that if they
00:20:38.960 do not deliver, they will be removed from power, then nothing's going to happen. If you do not as a party
00:20:45.040 have the ability to discipline the leadership and say no to them, if you as a movement can't go to your
00:20:52.320 leadership and say, you will get removed if you do not do these basic things we want you to do.
00:20:57.200 If you can't display primary loyalty to the United States, if you're wearing other countries'
00:21:02.320 flags, I want you out. Period. That's it. That's all I care about. I'm sorry. And that should be
00:21:09.040 sufficient. That's enough. That's not a ridiculous stance to take. If you cannot show primary loyalty
00:21:14.800 to the United States and the people you are supposed to represent, if you are not willing to go to bat and
00:21:19.280 shut down corrupt institutions that are applying the law incorrectly, that are using this biased
00:21:25.360 justice system to attack your very voting base and your main candidate for president, if you do not
00:21:34.000 have the ability to do that, if you do not have the dedication to do that, then I'm sorry, but you
00:21:38.080 deserve what's coming. Until you grasp that, your own base is going to continue to throw you out. I hope
00:21:44.080 they do. I hope his message is sent. You have to care about these people. Yes, I understand. Some
00:21:50.000 of the people who come in with the Freedom Caucus and the MAGA coalition, they're not the most
00:21:54.880 professional. They don't have the biggest strategy. That's fine. Guess what? The professional people
00:21:59.600 with the strategy have failed over and over and over again. Sorry, but you need some discipline. Yes,
00:22:04.400 I'm behind having a real professional set of guys who can get things done. But that only matters once you
00:22:11.440 are dedicated to this cause. And until then, you deserve to be stripped of power and you deserve
00:22:18.400 MAGA coalition members. You deserve conservatives. You deserve real right wingers be coming after and
00:22:24.640 saying, you have to get this stuff done. You have to stand on these principles. You have to represent me.
00:22:30.240 And if you don't do that, you are out of power. This is something that the conservative movement has to
00:22:35.120 do. This is something that the right has to do. You're not willing to go after a completely corrupt,
00:22:40.400 completely useless leadership, then nothing will ever change.
