00:00:30.000 The political theorist and sociologist Vilfredo Pareto identified two main personality types among ruling elites.

00:00:38.600 The foxes and the lions.

00:00:40.960 Foxes govern through manipulation and innovation, while lions rely on tradition and force.

00:00:46.720 In a healthy civilization, power circulates between these two types,

00:00:50.920 allowing a balance that meets the needs of society at any given time.

00:00:54.660 For decades, Western nations have been dominated by foxes,

00:00:58.820 who favor manipulation over force.

00:01:01.260 However, as populist movements began challenging their grip on power,

00:01:06.140 the ruling class attempted to pivot to hard power.

00:01:09.300 The American left responded with riots, imprisonment of political opponents,

00:01:13.700 and even an assassination attempt on the populist presidential candidate.

00:01:17.620 Yet these efforts failed, and Donald Trump won office with a decisive mandate.

00:01:23.660 Now, after their failed shift toward coercion, progressives find themselves disoriented and divided.

00:01:29.820 Their system of information control has been disrupted,

00:01:33.400 and their attempts at brute force have backfired,

00:01:36.300 leaving them uncertain about their next move.

00:01:38.720 In his book, The Mind and Society, Pareto explained that every civilization has a ruling class,

00:01:45.700 and that ruling class can generally be divided into two groups.

00:01:49.040 The first type, type 1 residues, or foxes, manipulates information and adapts quickly to shift social dynamics.

00:01:57.640 The second type, the type 2 residues, or lions, is patriotic, courageous,

00:02:02.960 and committed to preserving identity and tradition.

00:02:07.200 Lions excel at physical defense,

00:02:09.800 and thrive in times when societies must carve out territory,

00:02:14.060 settle new lands, or defend borders from external threats.

00:02:18.600 Lions typically rule through hierarchical structures and strategic application of force,

00:02:24.180 maintaining stability through a sense of duty and order.

00:02:27.640 In contrast, foxes rely on deception and social engineering to achieve their ends.

00:02:34.120 When either group dominates for too long without the other's influence,

00:02:38.440 societies risk stagnation, corruption, or collapse.

00:02:43.600 Foxes are intelligent and adaptable,

00:02:46.080 skilled at manipulating ideas and combining concepts.

00:02:49.460 They're not bound by tradition,

00:02:50.820 which allows them to envision and implement radical changes.

00:02:54.020 As societies grow more complex,

00:02:56.360 they tend to turn to foxes,

00:02:58.220 as the challenges faced by elites in advanced societies

00:03:01.480 require abstract thinking and innovation.

00:03:04.660 Foxes typically rule through soft power,

00:03:07.620 using information control and bureaucratic systems to shape society.

00:03:12.540 Pareto argued that functional societies must maintain a balance between these two elite types.

00:03:18.800 When a country overwhelmingly favors one over the other,

00:03:23.320 it eventually declines.

00:03:25.320 For decades, Western nations have prioritized foxes while marginalizing lions in its elite structures.

00:03:32.780 Patriotic, strong, and tradition-oriented individuals have been pushed aside,

00:03:38.040 while cunning and manipulative figures have been elevated.

00:03:41.460 This large imbalance has led to an elite class that excludes many of its most capable potential leaders

00:03:49.620 while embracing mediocrity or even corruption,

00:03:53.460 simply because those in power share a similar mindset.

00:03:57.940 Foxes rule through manipulation and soft power,

00:04:00.900 relying on information control and propaganda.

00:04:04.680 Their preferred tactics involve getting political opponents fired,

00:04:08.360 freezing their bank accounts,

00:04:10.440 or using public shame rather than resorting to direct force.

00:04:15.120 News media, entertainment, and academia serve as their primary tools,

00:04:20.260 while public humiliation remains their most effective weapon.

00:04:24.800 By carefully adjusting algorithmic information delivery

00:04:29.000 and forging partnerships between corporations and intelligence agencies,

00:04:33.680 Fox-style elites can censor dissidents without technically violating civil rights

00:04:39.960 protected by Western constitutions.

00:04:42.960 Soft power allows elites to establish totalitarian practices

00:04:46.920 without provoking the direct resistance that comes with brute force.

00:04:52.040 But it depends on the credibility and prestige of the institutions enforcing it.

00:04:57.160 People comply with these institutions because defying them

00:05:01.180 can mean social and professional ruin,

00:05:04.560 losing jobs, friendships, and status in polite society.

00:05:08.980 To maintain control, Foxes rely on institutions that command, respect, and influence.

00:05:16.260 When does fast grocery delivery through Instacart matter most?

00:05:20.020 When your famous grainy mustard potato salad isn't so famous without the grainy mustard.

00:05:24.880 When the barbecue's lit, but there's nothing to grill.

00:05:27.540 When the in-laws decide that, actually, they will stay for dinner.

00:05:31.260 Instacart has all your groceries covered this summer.

00:05:33.540 So download the app and get delivery in as fast as 60 minutes.

00:05:37.500 Plus, enjoy $0 delivery fees on your first three orders.

00:05:41.180 Service fees exclusions and terms apply.

00:05:43.380 Instacart. Groceries that over-deliver.

00:05:46.560 These institutions can manipulate narratives and even push absurd claims on occasion,

00:05:53.540 but overreaching regularly threatens their credibility.

00:05:56.460 This became most evident during the pandemic lockdowns when scientific, medical, and government

00:06:03.180 authorities were caught lying so frequently that much of the public just stopped trusting

00:06:09.180 them at all.

00:06:09.780 At a certain point, the cost of compliance with these institutions' demands outweighed the

00:06:15.960 social penalties of defiance.

00:06:18.720 Faced with growing dissent, the Foxes began to panic.

00:06:22.080 As their grip on power weakened, the Foxes turned to new tactics to reassert control.

00:06:28.760 First came the violence of Black Lives Matter and Antifa, two groups that effectively serve 1.00

00:06:33.860 as the Democratic Party's paramilitary arms.

00:06:37.040 This mob violence cloaked in plausible deniability aimed to intimidate those that had abandoned institutional

00:06:43.820 authority back into compliance.

00:06:46.040 Once the election was secured, Democrats shifted to more overt hard-power tactics, deploying the

00:06:53.000 FBI to monitor church services and intimidate parents at school board meetings.

00:06:58.240 Fearful of losing control, the Fox-style elite attempted to rule like lions.

00:07:04.520 Nowhere was this desperation more evident than in the left's relentless attempts to stop

00:07:09.900 Donald Trump.

00:07:10.780 The real estate tycoon provoked such an unhinged response that the progressives sought to bankrupt 0.72

00:07:17.400 him, remove him from the ballot, imprison him, and even assassinate him.

00:07:22.240 These blatant displays of force resembled tactics used by a third-world dictator, but a wounded

00:07:28.900 animal is the most dangerous, and Foxes are willing to do anything to hold on to power.

00:07:35.360 Despite their best efforts, both soft power censorship and hard power crackdowns failed.

00:07:43.180 Trump secured a resounding mandate in both the popular vote and the electoral college.

00:07:49.220 At this point, Democrats faced a stark choice, embrace full-scale authoritarian repression or

00:07:56.760 allow the duly elected Republican to take office.

00:08:01.060 Their manipulation of information had collapsed.

00:08:04.300 Their attempts to jail or kill Trump had backfired.

00:08:08.900 In the end, Foxes both lacked the skill and the resolve required for violence.

00:08:15.760 They are neither suited for nor adept at wielding force, and their sudden shift towards hard power

00:08:22.820 tactics only underscores their desperation.

00:08:26.920 Now that the attempt to transition to brute force has failed, the left is in disarray.

00:08:32.800 The American people rejected both manipulation and coercion.

00:08:37.260 So what options remain for them?

00:08:39.680 For now, progressives seem trapped in a state of confusion, waging an internal battle between

00:08:45.120 radical activists pushing for even more extreme measures and establishment scrambling to rein

00:08:51.260 in the movement that they've unleashed.

00:08:53.640 Their failure to shift from soft power to hard power has left them completely demoralized.

00:08:59.440 And let's hope that it stays that way.
