00:00:00.000 Last week, Logan Riley and Brandon Mitchell went viral when the gay couple shared a post
00:00:20.620 of the baby boy they had acquired through surrogacy.
00:00:23.660 It has become very common for gay couples to celebrate purchasing children from their
00:00:28.080 mothers on social media, but as the horrific consequences of surrogacy have become more
00:00:32.960 well-known, public opposition has become more common.
00:00:36.880 Many on social media raised concerns that the gay adoption was not in the interest of
00:00:41.640 the child who may experience severe consequences for not being raised by a mother.
00:00:47.620 These entirely reasonable concerns were of course met with the usual accusations of bigotry
00:00:52.640 by gay activists seeking to silence the opposition.
00:00:55.620 The activists, who viciously smeared any critics of the gay couple, suddenly fell silent when
00:01:01.760 it was revealed that one of the new fathers is a convicted sex offender.
00:01:07.300 The argument for gay adoption was always flimsy.
00:01:10.880 Formative experiences shape a child when they're young and the dynamic of having both a loving
00:01:15.860 father and mother in the house to provide critical influence from both sexes is key.
00:01:21.500 Initially, it was accepted by gay activists that two males are even more detrimental because
00:01:27.320 they don't provide the feminine, motherly qualities on which infants are so dependent.
00:01:33.140 The pitch for gay adoption was framed more as a last-ditch effort to provide a loving,
00:01:38.460 if suboptimal, home for children who otherwise would be languishing in foster care.
00:01:43.560 This argument was always a Trojan horse, but at least it came with a certain level of humility,
00:01:48.600 recognizing the inherent inferiority of a gay couple as parents.
00:01:53.960 As the LGBTQ movement gained first cultural acceptance and then cultural dominance,
00:01:59.720 the nature of the argument changed.
00:02:02.280 Gay adoption was no longer an inferior solution of last resort,
00:02:06.720 but something that was seen as equal to heterosexual couples adopting.
00:02:11.440 In many cases, adoption agencies began restricting their placements with religious Christians
00:02:16.720 who were labeled as extremists, while preferring homosexual couples who were considered more
00:02:22.180 culturally acceptable.
00:02:23.980 The argument was still that the couple was providing a home for a child in need,
00:02:28.540 but the idea that the quality of the home provided by an LGBTQ couple,
00:02:33.680 maybe lacking something critical by its very nature, had been abolished.
00:02:37.900 Once the equality or even superiority of homosexual couples as adoptive parents had been established
00:02:45.080 as an unassailable dogma, the pretense of adoption could be discarded.
00:02:50.020 Gay couples, who by their very nature can't reproduce, decided that they wanted genetic offspring of their own.
00:02:57.060 The excuse about rescuing abandoned foster children was discarded,
00:03:01.040 and LGBTQ activists made surrogacy their new vehicle for creating an artificial family.
00:03:06.960 Surrogacy was relatively new, and few people understood the process.
00:03:11.640 The public had spent zero time thinking about the moral implications.
00:03:15.600 Gay people were just now parents like everyone else.
00:03:18.280 If surrogacy made that possible, then it was probably a net positive.
00:03:22.820 Surrogacy does technically involve the adoption of a child,
00:03:26.520 but the two practices could not be more morally distinct.
00:03:30.140 Traditional adoption involves taking on responsibility for a child that's not yours,
00:03:34.940 because they would otherwise lead a perilous existence, often as a ward of the state.
00:03:39.800 There are still very serious problems with gay adoption,
00:03:43.280 but at least the practice of adoption itself is inherently noble,
00:03:47.460 and a fine alternative for heterosexual couples who can't have children.
00:03:52.120 Surrogacy, in contrast, is the intentional creation of a life for the express purpose
00:03:57.580 of ripping it from its mother and selling it to strangers.
00:04:00.780 The process itself is intense, exacting a brutal physical and emotional cost on the mother.
00:04:07.640 The horror stories are also incredibly dark,
00:04:10.120 as children are often custom-ordered like designer fashion accessories.
00:04:14.820 Forced abortions, abandoned infants, and extreme emotional trauma are not uncommon.
00:04:20.500 And that is before we even broach the subject of abuse.
00:04:23.640 Claudia was leaving for her pickleball tournament.
00:04:26.400 I've been visualizing my match all week.
00:04:28.940 She was so focused on visualizing that she didn't see the column behind her car on her backhand side.
00:04:34.960 Good thing Claudia's with Intact,
00:04:36.880 the insurer with the largest network of auto service centers in the country.
00:04:40.660 Everything was taken care of under one roof,
00:04:42.640 and she was on her way in a rental car in no time.
00:04:45.080 I made it to my tournament and lost in the first round.
00:04:48.300 But you got there on time.
00:04:50.460 Intact Insurance, your auto service ace.
00:04:53.040 Certain conditions apply.
00:04:54.800 Unrelated adults present in the home are one of the most common sources of child abuse.
00:05:00.100 One study found that preschool-aged children are 40 times more likely to suffer abuse
00:05:05.940 in a home with a step-parent in comparison with those with two biological parents.
00:05:11.260 There are, of course, many wonderful step-parents out there,
00:05:14.300 but the risks can't be ignored.
00:05:16.100 Adults, especially men, are just far more likely to abuse children to which they are not related.
00:05:23.420 This makes every gay surrogacy case a game of Russian roulette for the child that they've purchased.
00:05:29.460 The fact that we made the purchase of children by gay couples something to be publicly celebrated
00:05:34.920 speaks to what a very dark place we are at as a society.
00:05:39.260 Our culture is now basically built on the idea that the purchasing of slaves was the greatest moral crime in history,
00:05:45.560 but somehow we've also made homosexuality so sacred that it justifies the legal child trafficking we see today.
00:05:53.980 While adoption by a sex offender is banned under Pennsylvania law where the couple lives,
00:05:58.920 there is no similar restriction for surrogacy.
00:06:01.860 The child these men purchased is still in the care of a sex criminal.
00:06:06.680 It's time for conservatives to speak out against and ultimately work to ban this repugnant practice.
00:06:13.180 Surrogacy is an abomination that was snuck in through the back door
00:06:16.820 because most people didn't understand the process or its consequences.
00:06:21.440 I'm sorry, but ignorance is just no longer a justification for our complacency.
00:06:26.780 If the right truly believes in protecting children, it must take action to end this horrific practice.
00:06:33.720 We have to end the creation of human children for the purpose of commerce by both straight and gay couples.
00:06:42.500 Vulnerable children can't be left in the hands of sex offenders
00:06:45.980 just because they have the cultural shield of the LGBTQ identity.
