The Auron MacIntyre Show - Stay Sane In 2024 ｜ 12⧸30⧸23

00:00:00.000 We hope you're enjoying your Air Canada flight.

00:00:02.320 Rocky's Vacation, here we come.

00:00:05.060 Whoa, is this economy?

00:00:07.180 Free beer, wine, and snacks.

00:00:09.620 Sweet! 0.95

00:00:10.720 Fast-free Wi-Fi means I can make dinner reservations before we land.

00:00:14.760 And with live TV, I'm not missing the game.

00:00:17.800 It's kind of like, I'm already on vacation.

00:00:20.980 Nice! 0.94

00:00:22.240 On behalf of Air Canada, nice travels.

00:00:25.260 Wi-Fi available to Airplane members on Equipped Flight.

00:00:27.340 Sponsored by Bell. Conditions apply.

00:00:28.580 See AirCanada.com.

00:00:30.100 The stretch between Christmas and New Year's always feels like the necessary calm

00:00:34.380 before a moment of great transition.

00:00:37.040 The chaos of holiday preparation has come and gone,

00:00:40.140 the children are still home from school,

00:00:42.280 and work slows to a crawl as the world awaits the beginning of the next cycle.

00:00:47.000 The Christmas season can be hectic,

00:00:48.680 but if observed correctly, it reconnects you to the things that really matter,

00:00:52.100 like faith, family, and community.

00:00:54.640 While it seems impossible after the rollercoaster ride of 2016

00:00:58.580 and the clown show of 2020,

00:01:00.580 the election cycle of 2024 will likely prove to be more insane

00:01:04.760 than anything this country has seen in generations.

00:01:08.380 This moment of calm reflection before the celebration of New Year's

00:01:12.040 is an ideal time to remember what we're fighting for

00:01:14.880 before being plunged into the madness that will likely follow.

00:01:18.300 The constant grind of the news cycle on television and social media

00:01:23.080 can make it easy to think of politics as an abstraction.

00:01:26.840 Algorithms select the hottest takes from commentators

00:01:29.360 and the juiciest drama between candidates

00:01:31.320 and feed them all back to us as entertainment

00:01:33.620 while we scroll through our devices.

00:01:35.360 We cheer our side and boo the other like they're sports teams,

00:01:39.820 and engaging with politics in this manner

00:01:41.680 can easily turn every issue into a way to score points

00:01:44.580 or win an abstract debate instead of solving concrete problems.

00:01:48.960 The stakes of politics are very real,

00:01:51.880 but when politics become a consumer product,

00:01:54.300 it can be difficult to connect the ideological battles

00:01:57.200 of characters we watch on television

00:01:59.140 to the well-being of the people in our day-to-day lives.

00:02:02.280 All signs now point to Donald Trump

00:02:06.760 becoming the Republican nominee for president.

00:02:09.700 Ron DeSantis could pull off a massive upset,

00:02:12.640 but if Trump converts his front-runner status into a win,

00:02:16.140 chaos is likely to follow. 0.94

00:02:18.420 The left have built Trump up as a mad dictator 0.97

00:02:21.160 who's out for revenge, 0.99

00:02:22.660 a villain determined to end democracy

00:02:24.840 and secure permanent dominion over the United States.

00:02:28.980 This is a frankly delusional way

00:02:31.240 to view the former reality television star,

00:02:34.080 but that hardly matters.

00:02:35.760 Progressives have meaned themselves

00:02:37.320 into believing their own propaganda

00:02:39.600 and feel justified in stopping Trump

00:02:41.620 by any means necessary.

00:02:44.120 Democrats will weaponize the justice system, 0.54

00:02:46.560 strip the political opposition off the ballot,

00:02:48.680 and generally create a constitutional crisis

00:02:51.020 if it means keeping the scary orange man out of office.

00:02:54.700 Every four years,

00:02:56.040 American voters must endure endless speeches 0.72

00:02:58.300 about how this election is the most important election

00:03:01.280 of their lives,

00:03:02.500 but the rhetoric of 2024 will be truly apocalyptic.

00:03:06.560 It's easy in this environment

00:03:08.080 to bind our hopes, dreams, and identities

00:03:10.480 to these national political contests,

00:03:13.020 but that's a mistake.

00:03:14.580 The problems our nation faces are deep,

00:03:16.820 and superficial political change will not fix them.

00:03:19.660 While it may be necessary to support Ron DeSantis

00:03:22.560 or Donald Trump,

00:03:23.700 neither of these figures will save us,

00:03:25.780 nor is their victory the true goal.

00:03:28.820 American communities have been torn apart

00:03:31.180 by leaders of both parties

00:03:32.660 willing to burn the social fabric

00:03:34.440 that once bound us together

00:03:35.940 for votes and for profit.

00:03:37.960 During the fever pitch of the election cycle,

00:03:40.480 it can be easy to forget

00:03:41.700 that the only reason these battles really matter

00:03:44.460 is that they impact the people closest to us.

00:03:47.200 So you've always been picky about your produce,

00:03:50.180 but now you find yourself checking every label

00:03:52.500 to make sure it's Canadian.

00:03:54.560 So be it.

00:03:55.640 At Sobeez,

00:03:56.700 we always pick guaranteed fresh Canadian produce first.

00:03:59.900 Restrictions apply.

00:04:00.860 See in-store or online for details.

00:04:05.000 We all feel the need to make a difference,

00:04:07.740 but making a difference is messy and inconvenient.

00:04:11.260 Abstract political contests at the national level

00:04:13.920 are the ideal outlet for our desire

00:04:15.960 to do something

00:04:17.420 because they require little to no effort.

00:04:20.560 We slap a bumper sticker on the car,

00:04:22.820 listen to our favorite pundits,

00:04:24.420 argue with a relative at Thanksgiving,

00:04:26.280 and feel like we've made a difference.

00:04:28.420 We can get deeply outraged

00:04:30.140 about the latest court ruling

00:04:31.720 in a state that is thousands of miles away,

00:04:34.280 even as the neighborhood around us falls apart.

00:04:37.160 The coming year is guaranteed

00:04:38.640 to be full of political outrage,

00:04:41.060 but if we lose sight of what really matters,

00:04:43.440 then we've already been defeated.

00:04:45.060 If conservatives want to conserve anything,

00:04:48.740 we have to start close to home.

00:04:50.660 Building stronger families and stronger churches

00:04:52.740 will take more sacrifice and involvement

00:04:55.200 than being politically engaged,

00:04:57.520 but it'll also yield a far more tangible result.

00:05:01.480 Founding organizations

00:05:02.460 that bring like-minded individuals together

00:05:04.800 and provide aid to those in need

00:05:06.760 may not provide the same dopamine rush

00:05:09.480 as winning an argument online,

00:05:11.240 but it'll advance the cause much further.

00:05:14.740 By grounding ourselves in the communities

00:05:16.640 we claim to value,

00:05:18.380 we can get a better understanding of their needs,

00:05:20.940 not just as ideological pawns

00:05:22.900 in an abstract political battle,

00:05:24.720 but as the true reason

00:05:25.940 to engage in politics in the first place.

00:05:29.060 So as you pack away the Christmas decorations

00:05:31.560 and buy your fireworks for the new year,

00:05:33.960 take a moment to remember what really matters.

00:05:36.700 With the madness this election cycle

00:05:38.500 is guaranteed to produce,

00:05:40.100 it would be easy to invest

00:05:41.200 all of our emotional energy

00:05:42.880 in the latest outrage.

00:05:44.640 But what will really matter

00:05:45.980 is the investment that we make

00:05:47.180 in our families and community.

00:05:49.560 You may not be able to ultimately change

00:05:51.800 the course of the 2024 election,

00:05:54.440 but you can win a school board seat,

00:05:56.480 make sure your child is being taught

00:05:57.860 the values that you hold dear,

00:05:59.640 and ensure that he has a good church

00:06:01.240 to help guide him.

00:06:02.980 Don't let 2024 be the year

00:06:05.220 that you burn out on political drama,

00:06:07.280 but instead maintain your relationships,

00:06:09.460 care about the people around you,

00:06:11.060 and better the place where you live.

00:06:13.480 The year ahead of us is going to be a wild ride,

00:06:16.840 but you can stay sane by staying focused

00:06:19.440 on what you're really fighting for.

00:06:21.160 Thanks for watching, guys.
