00:00:14.980 The horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk should have brought the people of the United States
00:00:19.180 together. Instead, it tore them apart. Conservatives quickly realized that far too many of their
00:00:24.880 countrymen on the left were enthusiastically celebrating the murder, and even those who
00:00:29.200 managed a weak denunciation of the act heavily implied that Kirk ultimately got what he deserved.
00:00:35.200 For a moment, the realization that the average leftist was okay with the murder of Republicans
00:00:40.120 galvanized the right wing as conservatives unified to praise Kirk and call for justice.
00:00:45.540 Unfortunately, that unity quickly dissipated as it became clear that a battle for the
00:00:50.300 Turning Point USA founder's legacy was underway. This is the worst possible outcome, not just
00:00:56.740 because it turns Kirk's legacy into a political football, but because it's destroying the
00:01:01.600 movement he worked so tirelessly to build. In his farewell address, our first American
00:01:08.080 President George Washington spent a surprising amount of time outlining his vision for how
00:01:13.220 the fledgling country should navigate foreign policy. Washington reminded his fellow Americans
00:01:18.720 what a blessing the Lord had gifted the United States by separating the country from the great
00:01:23.840 powers of Europe. Washington warned that foreign influence was a deadly factor that could infect
00:01:30.360 sovereign republics, and being separated from the intrigues of the old world ensured American
00:01:36.000 independence. George Washington told the crowd that the United States should engage only in
00:01:42.280 economic relationships or brief targeted alliances with clear objectives and endpoints. He warned against
00:01:49.160 making any other nation an object of hatred as it would drive the United States to make decisions that harmed
00:01:55.160 its own people just despite the hated nation. Washington also stood firmly against treating any foreign power
00:02:01.660 as a favored nation because it would conflate the interests of the favored nation with the interests of the
00:02:07.700 American people. The first president foresaw a future where two sides formed inside the nation based entirely on their
00:02:15.480 support or rejection of a foreign power, ensuring that foreign influence would come to dominate domestic
00:02:21.800 politics. He also warned that any patriot who voiced their concern about foreign influence would be decried as a
00:02:28.760 traitor for questioning our greatest ally. Washington's prediction has come to pass, but the fracture doesn't just
00:02:35.140 run between left and right. It also cleaves through conservatism itself. The United States has had a close
00:02:41.960 relationship with Israel for decades, sharing intelligence, providing financial aid, supplying military
00:02:47.640 equipment, and offering diplomatic support. Many conservatives, particularly evangelical Christians,
00:02:53.320 have what can be described in the most literal terms as a religious devotion to the modern nation state of
00:02:59.460 Israel. Others claim a more practical benefit of intelligence and military assistance in critical Middle East
00:03:06.680 operations. This relationship is clearly in violation of Washington's advice, but to be fair, the same is true of
00:03:14.040 our relationships with countries like the United Kingdom and Germany. The big difference seems to be the religious
00:03:19.560 aspect that is attached to Israel. We may be longtime allies with the UK or Germany, but you can easily denounce
00:03:26.960 them with little to no consequence. Any questioning of the relationship with Israel, however, will generate a plethora of
00:03:33.800 slurs that you usually only hear from the left. Racist, Nazi, anti-Semite, bigot, you know the drill.
00:03:41.320 Just as Washington predicted, the centering of one nation in our foreign policy has brought about significant
00:03:47.240 internal strife and invited more foreign influence. Many pro-Israel conservatives have correctly noted the
00:03:55.200 increase of investment from Qatar into the United States. While there's some irony in becoming apoplectic about
00:04:02.120 one form of foreign influence while openly courting another, the concerns are at least legitimate.
00:04:08.360 Both Israel and Qatar have become major outposts of American power in the Middle East, and they're
00:04:13.620 spending massive amounts of money and effort increasing their influence in the United States.
00:04:19.200 And that doesn't even begin to address other instances of this, like the Indian diaspora, which is
00:04:24.860 attempting to solidify itself as a power block inside the U.S.
00:04:28.480 This is why Washington warned us about empire and extended alliances. All of this was predictable.
00:04:35.620 All of it was foreseen and warned against. But both sides bicker on as they refuse to heed the wise
00:04:41.740 advice of our first president. Charlie Kirk had many great skills, and one of them was his role as a
00:04:48.480 peacemaker. He was able to bring all corners of the right together and unite them in his support of
00:04:53.820 Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. That's why the Civil War being fought over his legacy is so ugly.
00:05:00.720 Conspiracy theories over Kirk's death abound, denunciations of people he clearly loved are
00:05:06.040 called for in his name, and personal text messages between the dead father and different conservative
00:05:11.760 influencers are now regularly divulged and used as weapons against the other side. It really is one of
00:05:19.020 the more inhuman displays we've seen in a very long time. At Desjardins, we speak business. We speak
00:05:27.320 startup funding and comprehensive game plans. We've mastered made-to-measure growth and expansion

00:05:49.640 business. In a strange way, the impulse to interpret Kirk's personal messages as some form of sacred
00:05:58.880 text, which justifies your version of conservatism, reminds me of the way people now look at the
00:06:04.220 Constitution. The left strips our founding document of all literal meaning in the hopes of remaking the
00:06:10.180 country, and the right strips it of all context to form an ideology. Both sides are more worried
00:06:15.660 about the Constitution justifying their political program than they are in understanding its real
00:06:20.620 meaning and intention. In truth, it's clear that Charlie Kirk held a great deal of affection and
00:06:27.200 support for the state of Israel. He clearly supported its existence and believed that it held biblical
00:06:32.440 significance. That said, Kirk really was America first and seemed concerned about the military
00:06:38.380 intervention that the U.S. relationship with Israel often entailed. He also expressed frustration
00:06:44.240 about the fact that his Zionist donors applied a great deal of pressure on TPUSA to cancel
00:06:50.200 conservatives that they didn't agree with. Despite these misgivings, Kirk regularly stated that he was
00:06:56.100 worried about the growing animosity towards Israel on the right and sought ways to defuse it, both by
00:07:01.500 counter-messaging domestically and curbing Israeli excesses abroad. Charlie's position was nuanced,
00:07:08.060 like most of our opinions are on the issue once we're allowed to talk instead of screaming at each
00:07:13.680 other. Now, instead of using the political momentum from Kirk's assassination to crush the left-wing
00:07:19.760 terror network responsible for his death, the conservative movement has decided to draw its
00:07:24.020 long knives and turn on each other. Both sides failed to heed Washington's advice, one hating Israel with
00:07:31.360 enough fury to harm their own nation, and the other declaring that any deviation from total support of our
00:07:37.180 greatest ally is tantamount to treason. At a moment where conservatives should be banding together for
00:07:43.880 their very survival, they would rather settle scores than defend the future of their own nation.
00:07:49.680 The reality is obvious for anyone to see. Israel is not going anywhere, at least in the short term,
00:07:57.080 and the conservative movement will need a coherent plan for addressing relations with the nation.
00:08:02.320 The religious commitment will continue among evangelicals at some level, but this is a
00:08:08.620 generational phenomenon that is quickly fading among younger Christians. Advocates for Israel will
00:08:14.760 need to make their case on a far more practical basis if they want to win over the younger conservative
00:08:20.320 cohort. Those that wish to rethink or even completely abandon our relationship with Israel will also
00:08:26.500 continue to exist, and their number is frankly likely to grow. If fans of Israel want to avoid the
00:08:32.960 radicalization they claim to fear, there needs to be space inside the movement to voice those reasonable
00:08:39.160 opinions without experiencing a leftist struggle session. Those that oppose the current relationship
00:08:44.720 with Israel would do well to keep their arguments practical and factual. Washington's warning about
00:08:50.800 self-sabotage due to hatred is just as serious as his warning about favored nations.
00:08:57.180 A sizable portion of the left wants you and your children dead. That's a horrible thing to realize
00:09:02.560 about your fellow countrymen, but we all saw it after Charlie Kirk's assassination, and you just can't
00:09:08.400 unsee it. Whether a conservative is a Zionist or an Israel skeptic, they're not calling for you to be shot.
00:09:15.480 They're not hoping for a bullet to find the heart of your children.
00:09:18.800 That might sound like a low bar for coalition building, but it is the situation we're in,
00:09:24.360 and you shouldn't ignore that fact because someone was mean to you on the internet.
00:09:28.980 We don't have time to fight each other, and that's exactly the opposite of what
00:09:32.820 Charlie Kirk would have wanted done in his name. Now to be clear, I'm not playing the part of the
00:09:38.380 enlightened centrists here too good to have an opinion. I have opinions on this issue and have not
00:09:44.120 been shy about sharing them, but the left must be defeated thoroughly. We don't have time for
00:09:49.320 these squabbles. The conservative civil war must end. The stakes are simply too high.
