The Ben Shapiro Show

At Least I’m Not You | Ep. 334

Summary

On Thursday, President Trump spoke in Poland where he laid forth his plans for NATO s Article 5 common defense. He also stated his support for missile defense in Poland against Russia. This should have been a ringing rebuke to the American media, who have declared Trump a Putin shill for nearly a year. Instead, the media decided to focus on the fact that Trump received warm praise from the Polish people. CNN's actual headline said, "Trump showered in Polish praise, backs NATO's Article 5. It's difficult to recall CNN running a similar headline during President Obama's magical, mystery European tours." The media also went nuts over Trump ripping CNN while overseas. But the real story is that Trump forcefully chided his supposed conspirators in election hacking. That he s talking about setting up a missile defense system to defend against them. And that he took material steps to check their territorial ambitions in Ukraine and Syria. The media ignores all of that because they are more interested in getting President Trump, even over stupid issues. Ben Shapiro breaks it all down and explains why this is a good thing. Plus, a bottle of wine and a glass of Champagne! Ben Shapiro is a regular contributor to the New York Times, The Weekly Standard, and The Huffington Post. 00:00:00.000 On Thursday, President Trump spoke in Poland, where he laid forth his plans for NATO Article 5 common defense.
00:00:05.000 He said that the United States, quote, has demonstrated not merely with words, but with actions, that we stand firmly behind Article 5.
00:00:11.000 Our defense is not just a commitment of money, it is a commitment of will.
00:00:15.000 Trump went on to explain, quote, our own fight for the West does not begin on the battlefield, it begins with our minds, our wills, and our souls.
00:00:21.000 He even warned the Russian government directly, quote, we urge Russia to cease its destabilizing activities in Ukraine and elsewhere.
00:00:27.000 Trump also stated his support for missile defense in Poland against Russia.
00:00:31.000 This should have been a ringing rebuke to the American media, who have declared Trump a Putin shill for nearly a year.
00:00:38.000 Instead, the media decided to focus on the fact that Trump received warm praise from the Polish people.
00:00:42.000 CNN's actual headline, this is the real headline, quote, Trump showered in Polish praise, backs NATO's Article 5.
00:00:49.000 It's difficult to recall CNN running a similar headline during President Obama's magical mystery European tours.
00:00:55.000 The media also went nuts over Trump ripping CNN while overseas.
00:00:57.000 NBC's Chuck Todd tweeted, quote, A trashing of the American press corps and intel community in Eastern Europe of all places?
00:01:04.000 Could Putin have asked for anything more?
00:01:06.000 Well, yes.
00:01:07.000 Putin could have asked for more.
00:01:08.000 He could have asked for a president who wanted to give him flexibility and withdrew from missile defense in Eastern Europe and handed Syria over to Vladimir Putin.
00:01:15.000 He could have asked for that and actually gotten it.
00:01:17.000 It's not pleasant that President Trump attacks the media while he's overseas.
00:01:21.000 It's unpresidential, but I mean, this is Donald Trump's.
00:01:23.000 Is that any giant shock?
00:01:25.000 But the media's willingness to ignore the real story in Poland.
00:01:28.000 That Trump forcefully chided his supposed conspirators in election hacking.
00:01:32.000 That he's talking about setting up a missile defense system to defend against them.
00:01:35.000 That he went after their aggression in Ukraine and Syria.
00:01:38.000 That's the real story.
00:01:39.000 That he took material steps to check those territorial ambitions.
00:01:42.000 CNN ignores all of that.
00:01:43.000 The media ignore all of that because they are more interested in getting President Trump even over stupid issues.
00:01:49.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.

00:03:13.000 You'll also use the slash Ben so that they know that we sent you.
00:03:15.000 Okay, so.
00:03:16.000 President Trump is over in Poland, and he's been speaking over in Poland about missile defense and about Russian aggression and about Article 5.
00:03:24.000 So, for months we have heard that President Trump was going to withdraw from NATO.
00:03:27.000 Now, some of this was Trump's own fault.
00:03:29.000 He kept talking about how NATO was useless and obsolete and how they didn't pay their bills.
00:03:33.000 Well, now he finally goes where it is necessary for him to go to talk about NATO, and that is the countries that border the Russia that would like to invade
00:03:42.000 Eastern Europe.
00:03:43.000 So he went over to Poland.
00:03:44.000 You recall that when President Obama was president, he helped dismantle a missile defense system in Poland.
00:03:49.000 He took it out of Poland that would defend it against Russian aggression.
00:03:52.000 Trump goes over there and he says, we are going to help you reinstall that missile defense system against Russia.
00:03:56.000 Then he says, we want Russia to stop its territorial ambitions in Ukraine and in Syria.
00:04:01.000 So in other words, this is not spoken like a guy who spends his days coordinating with Vladimir Putin on just what Vladimir Putin wants.
00:04:08.000 But that is not stopping the media from portraying it that way.
00:04:10.000 See, the media are fully invested at this point.
00:04:13.000 They're delusional, okay?
00:04:13.000 We have a delusional media and a delusional left.
00:04:15.000 They are fully invested in the idea.
00:04:18.000 Two-fold idea.
00:04:19.000 Number one, Hillary didn't actually lose.
00:04:21.000 And number two, Trump is going to be impeached at any moment.
00:04:23.000 These two ideas are related, but the idea is that Hillary didn't actually lose because she could never be beaten by a dunderhead like Trump.
00:04:29.000 Therefore, it must have been that Trump was colluding with Russia
00:04:32.000 We're good.
00:04:46.000 The media is treating this as though Trump actually went there and made a sop to Putin.
00:04:50.000 So, Adam Schiff is on CNN.
00:04:52.000 He's on CNN every two minutes, Adam Schiff, because apparently he just lives next to the camera for CNN at the Capitol.
00:04:58.000 He actually sleeps on the floor like he's sleeping out at a Thanksgiving Day sale.
00:05:02.000 And then they wake him up and Adam Schiff pops up, puts on a little makeup and goes on TV.
00:05:07.000 Adam Schiff, he says,
00:05:09.000 You know, what Trump was really doing here is he refused to acknowledge Russian hacking of the election.
00:05:14.000 So it's true.
00:05:14.000 During the press conference, Trump was asked about Russia and their interference in the election.
00:05:19.000 Now, number one, Russia didn't actually hack the election.
00:05:21.000 A CNN reporter named Chris Chaliza was on all over Trump because he said Trump wouldn't acknowledge that Russia hacked the election.
00:05:27.000 Russia didn't hack the election.
00:05:28.000 If anything, Russia worked with WikiLeaks to interfere in the election by getting a bunch of emails from the DNC and then weaponizing them for at least during the election cycle, undermining election credibility.
00:05:37.000 But there's no evidence of collusion, so Shaliza is wrong.
00:05:40.000 But Adam Schiff says, because Trump refuses to acknowledge so-called election hacking, he's giving Putin everything he could possibly want.
00:05:47.000 And you heard Chuck Todd say that when Trump attacks the media, this is giving Putin everything that he could possibly want.
00:05:52.000 Well, how about when Barack Obama routinely attacked Fox News throughout his entire presidency?
00:05:58.000 Was he giving Vladimir Putin everything that he wanted?
00:06:01.000 Is it just possible that Trump may have a legit complaint?
00:06:03.000 And here's the thing for CNN.
00:06:05.000 Every time they attack Trump and suggest that he is in collusion with Russia and giving Putin what he wants, all they're doing is undermining their own credibility and lending credence to everything that Trump says about CNN.
00:06:16.000 Trump so far has done nothing egregious in Poland.
00:06:18.000 In fact, his initial speech, which a lot of people were concerned about, was quite good, right?
00:06:22.000 He talked about, we don't have clips of it yet, but he talked about the fact that Western civilization had to unite against the Islamic fascist threat.
00:06:29.000 He talked about how Russia was providing a threat to Eastern Europe.
00:06:33.000 He paid homage to the heroes of Poland's past, right?
00:06:36.000 All of this is great stuff.
00:06:37.000 There's nothing wrong with that.
00:06:38.000 At the press conference, he ripped on CNN, but at this point, that's rote.
00:06:41.000 Okay, if you're pretending that you're really shocked by Trump's behavior, it's not to say Trump's behavior is grand or glorious in attacking American press outlets while he's on the road, but let's be real about this.
00:06:51.000 It is the new normal, okay?
00:06:53.000 We can pretend all we want that it's not the new normal.
00:06:55.000 It is the new normal.
00:06:56.000 So why don't we focus on the fact that what he's actually there to do, not rip the media, but talk with the Polish, that's actually going quite well.
00:07:02.000 But the media can never acknowledge that because, again, point number one is that they think that he didn't actually win the election.
00:07:08.000 And point number two is they keep hoping for this kill shot.
00:07:11.000 They keep hoping that the time will come when they get this one moment, this one grand moment, where they reveal everything there is to know about Trump, and Trump just collapses.
00:07:19.000 His presidency ends.
00:07:20.000 And they're basing their ratings off of this, okay?
00:07:22.000 This is a ratings game for MSNBC and CNN.
00:07:24.000 Proof is in the pudding, okay?
00:07:25.000 MSNBC, last week, there was this spat between Trump, this idiotic spat between Trump and Mika Brzezinski, where he was tweeting out about her bloody facelift and all this stupid nonsense.
00:07:34.000 The day after he tweeted that, Morning Joe's ratings went up 70%.
00:07:39.000 You think that MSNBC and CNN are not invested in the fight with Trump?
00:07:43.000 You wonder why they cover every Trump tweet as though it's the end of the world?
00:07:45.000 One, it raises their ratings because Trump is ratings.
00:07:48.000 And two, they are hoping...
00:07:50.000 That's right.
00:08:11.000 The Democrats have built their entire platform now.
00:08:13.000 It's really amazing.
00:08:13.000 The Democrats have built their entire platform around just hoping that Trump clocks himself in the face with a frying pan.
00:08:19.000 They have nothing to present.
00:08:20.000 There is no program.
00:08:21.000 There are no ideas.
00:08:22.000 There is no actual agenda.
00:08:25.000 The only agenda is just insulting Trump and hoping he implodes and saying, we're not that guy.
00:08:30.000 We're not that guy.
00:08:31.000 And then meanwhile, on the other side, the Republicans are sitting around going, well, at least we're not Democrats.
00:08:35.000 So both sides, who are becoming each other at an incredibly rapid pace, right?
00:08:39.000 Obamacare is now being reinshrined by a Republican Senate.
00:08:44.000 Donald Trump's White House chief strategist, Steve Bannon, is now talking about raising taxes on the rich.
00:08:48.000 So Republicans who are becoming Democrats, and Democrats who are hoping to become Republicans, are both pointing at each other and saying, well at least we're not that guy.
00:08:55.000 This is the new politics in the United States.
00:08:57.000 You wonder why people who like ideas, you know, I like ideas, why I'm frustrated with the political situation?
00:09:02.000 I'm frustrated because neither of these things matters.
00:09:05.000 I am not a Democrat is not a slogan.
00:09:08.000 I am not a Republican is not a slogan.
00:09:10.000 Your idea should be your slogan.
00:09:11.000 What you're going to do should be your slogan.
00:09:13.000 But nobody talks about any of that crap because we are so ensconced in this WWE fight fest where Republicans slap Democrats and Democrats slap Republicans and then they all go out for a beer afterward, right?
00:09:24.000 All these media members go out for a beer with each other, okay?
00:09:26.000 They like each other.
00:09:28.000 This idea that people at Fox News don't get along with people on CNN, it may be true for, like, Sean Hannity, who actually is a true believer, but it's not true for the vast majority of people at Fox News.
00:09:36.000 Those people have friends at CNN.
00:09:38.000 People at MSNBC have friends in the White House.
00:09:40.000 Joe and Mika were friends with Trump until literally five seconds ago, and now they're not.
00:09:45.000 But it's all a game, okay?
00:09:46.000 It's all a big game, and the only losers are the American people who are sitting here wondering, okay, well, you say you're not a Republican, and you say you're not a Democrat, but how are you different?
00:09:54.000 You look exactly the same to me.
00:09:56.000 And it's not just me saying this.
00:09:57.000 These are the actual slogans that are now being unleashed.
00:10:00.000 So, yesterday, the Democrats unleashed their new slogan.
00:10:04.000 This is an actual bumper sticker that they are putting out there.
00:10:07.000 This is their new Democratic slogan.
00:10:08.000 We can show it.
00:10:10.000 The new Democratic slogan, really, this is a real thing, this is not a parody, was Democrats 2018.
00:10:15.000 I mean, have you seen the other guys?
00:10:18.000 That's legitimately what it says on their slogan.
00:10:21.000 I mean, have you seen the other guys?
00:10:22.000 That's their slogan.
00:10:23.000 So it's not, here's what we're going to do, here's why Republicans are bad.
00:10:26.000 It's just Republicans are a crap show, and at least we're not them.
00:10:29.000 At least we're not them.
00:10:31.000 They don't have any other agenda, right?
00:10:32.000 Their only agenda is we hate Trump and we hate Republicans.
00:10:35.000 And they're making this clearer every day, hoping and praying Republicans destroy themselves, and then they can just point and laugh.
00:10:40.000 So, the Democrats continue to push for, for example, a commission on President Trump's fitness.
00:10:47.000 You're not going to oust President Trump under the 25th Amendment.
00:10:49.000 I know there's this crazy idea floating around there.
00:10:51.000 I know Ross Dude had from the New York Times had talked about it, that somebody's going to invoke the 25th Amendment and claim that Trump is incapacitated, he's mentally incapable of being president.
00:11:00.000 The Trump who is now the president is exactly the same guy who ran.
00:11:03.000 He's exactly the same guy he has been for all 71 years of his life.
00:11:07.000 Nothing has changed.
00:11:08.000 He's not senile.
00:11:09.000 He's not had a drop-off in capacity.
00:11:11.000 If you think his capacity is not up to snuff, it wasn't up to snuff a year ago either.
00:11:15.000 And if you think that he was perfectly fine a year ago, he's perfectly fine now.
00:11:19.000 In any case, the Democrats are pushing, really, a commission on presidential fitness.
00:11:23.000 They're trying to claim that Trump is incapable of actually being president.
00:11:27.000 So Katie Turr of NBC, even she was looking at this and going, you guys have to be crazy.
00:11:30.000 This is what you're wasting your time on?
00:11:33.000 Oh, well, of course it does because the body is contemplated by the Constitution in the 25th Amendment.
00:11:39.000 It was adopted 50 years ago.
00:11:40.000 We're in the 50th anniversary of this provision in the Constitution.
00:11:45.000 And it's, you know, as I said, it's been used multiple times.
00:11:49.000 And so this simply follows through on our constitutional responsibility.
00:11:53.000 I hear you, but this has so far only been signed on, and correct me if I'm wrong, by Democrats.
00:11:58.000 Democrats don't control Congress.
00:12:00.000 They don't control the Senate.
00:12:01.000 They don't control the House.
00:12:02.000 They don't control the White House.
00:12:03.000 So, I mean, without any Republican support, do you think that this is a good use of time right now?
00:12:09.000 Well, you know, things in Congress do take time to happen, and it's been, you know, 50 years that the 25th Amendment has been in place.
00:12:17.000 But the body itself would be nonpartisan.
00:12:20.000 It would only be activated upon bipartisan, bicameral action by Congress.
00:12:25.000 So there's nothing for anybody to be afraid of, except for a presidential incapacity, and that's what the 25th Amendment was all about.
00:12:33.000 It was adopted after the assassination of President Kennedy, and of course we've had
00:12:37.000 Multiple assassination and assassination attempts take place in our history.
00:12:42.000 We've had lots of presidents incapacitated by different kinds of illnesses, physical and mental, and so on.
00:12:48.000 So we need to be prepared.
00:12:56.000 We're good to go.
00:13:14.000 No dice, you're not getting the data, and you'll never get it.
00:13:17.000 Governor, I never get to talk to you, so you're going to have to forgive me when I press you on this.
00:13:22.000 You are a savvy guy.
00:13:23.000 You are plugged in.
00:13:24.000 You've been around Democratic politics a long time.
00:13:27.000 You no doubt are having conversations behind the scenes.
00:13:29.000 No doubt those conversations are being had probably every day.
00:13:33.000 Who is the leader of the Democratic Party right now?
00:13:36.000 I think there are many leaders of the Democratic Party.
00:13:39.000 I will always default.
00:13:40.000 Give me a name, Governor.
00:13:41.000 Give me a name.
00:13:42.000 I'm not going to give you one.
00:13:43.000 I'll say the governors who are leading their states, creating jobs, building infrastructure, building an education system that works.
00:13:49.000 We have to balance our budgets.
00:13:50.000 Unlike Washington, they print money.
00:13:51.000 They still can't balance a budget.
00:13:53.000 We create jobs.
00:13:54.000 We build infrastructure.
00:13:55.000 We do education.
00:13:56.000 Governors need to lead the way.
00:13:58.000 And, listen, I compliment the folks on Capitol Hill who are doing what they're doing, but, you know, we need some action out of Washington to help us compete on a global basis.
00:14:06.000 And today, we're not seeing anything out of Washington.
00:14:08.000 It is broken.
00:14:09.000 Governor, you are a governor.
00:14:10.000 Are you talking about yourself?
00:14:11.000 Yeah.
00:14:13.000 Oh, no.
00:14:14.000 As chairman of the National Governors Association, I love all of our governors that we have today.
00:14:19.000 Okay, so McAuliffe is obviously trying to say that he's the leader, but nobody believes Terry McAuliffe is the leader because Terry McAuliffe doesn't even believe Terry McAuliffe is the leader.
00:14:26.000 And Tara McAuliffe is more colorless than a glass of water.
00:14:29.000 I mean, the guy is just dull as anything that has ever been put on this earth.
00:14:34.000 There are no leaders of the Democratic Party, and so they are basically running back to that slogan, at least we're not Republicans.
00:14:40.000 Now, they can do well with that slogan.
00:14:42.000 I'll explain why in a second, but first I want to say thank you to our sponsors over at FrameBridge.com.

00:16:04.000 Okay, so I do want to explain why Democrats can win based on this.
00:16:09.000 And the reason that Democrats can win based on the we're not Republicans is if Republicans suck.
00:16:13.000 Okay, that's how you win, right?
00:16:14.000 So Republicans were able to win based on that because they would say at least we're not Obama, at least we're not Democrats.
00:16:19.000 And then people said, well, that's true.
00:16:21.000 I guess you have a point.
00:16:21.000 I mean, this was basically Donald Trump's slogan.
00:16:23.000 At least I'm not Hillary.
00:16:24.000 He said it during the campaign many times.
00:16:27.000 You have no choice but to vote for me.
00:16:28.000 At least I'm not Hillary Clinton.
00:16:31.000 Woo!
00:16:32.000 Yeah, up for it.
00:16:33.000 All right.
00:16:33.000 Everything's good.
00:16:34.000 Choo-choo.
00:16:34.000 Get on the train.
00:16:35.000 That was sort of Trump's slogan.
00:16:37.000 So it's not that it doesn't work, but it requires the other party to suck a lot.
00:16:40.000 Fortunately for the Democrats, the Republicans do.
00:16:42.000 They suck a lot.
00:16:43.000 So we're going to talk about how much the Republicans suck and why they have nothing and why that matters more than the Democrats having nothing.
00:16:49.000 In just a second.
00:16:50.000 For that, you're going to have to go over to dailywire.com.
00:16:52.000 So first of all, before I say this, I just want to thank the folks over at The Blaze for providing us this space today.
00:16:57.000 I want to thank Glenn and Glenn Beck, who had me on his show earlier, and Jonathan Schreiber, who's the CEO over here.
00:17:04.000 I want to thank all the people at The Blaze for providing us this space, because it really is magnificent.
00:17:07.000 No, we didn't actually just, we said we were going to have a new studio, but our new studios did not involve us, involved in an armed takeover of The Blaze.
00:17:15.000 They're just lending us the space because they're kind and generous people, so thanks for that.
00:17:18.000 Anyway, if you want to, go over and subscribe so you can see the rest of the show live from these beautiful new studios that we just hijacked and will refuse to leave.

00:17:39.000 You can get his mailbag as well.
