The Ben Shapiro Show - Like A Dog | Ep. 887

00:00:00.000 The media go nuts over a meme of President Trump giving a medal of ponder to a dog.

00:00:04.000 Drag Queen story hour goes awry in Minnesota.

00:00:07.000 Who could have thought?

00:00:08.000 And the left celebrates censorship.

00:00:09.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.

00:00:10.000 This is The Ben Shapiro Show.

00:00:11.000 The Ben Shapiro Show is sponsored by ExpressVPN.

00:00:19.000 Protect your online privacy today at expressvpn.com slash Ben.

00:00:24.000 Oh man, we have a lot to get to today.

00:00:26.000 And we begin with the most glorious story of the day.

00:00:29.000 It is a glorious story because it just exposes everything that you need to know these days about the nature of the mainstream media.

00:00:36.000 First, a preface.

00:00:37.000 The mainstream media have been doing this routine where they act like Amelia Bedelia, where every time somebody on the right tells a joke, they take it extremely literally.

00:00:44.000 So if you don't remember the Amelia Bedelia books from when you were a kid, or from when your kids were kids, well, the Amelia Bedelia books, there's a series of books about a character named Amelia Bedelia who is basically a maid who took everything extremely literally, and every idiom she would take Extremely literally.

00:01:01.000 So for example, there's a book called Merry Christmas, Amelia Bedelia and her boss told her to bake a date cake and so she literally went over to the calendar and she cut out a bunch of dates and then baked it into a cake, right?

00:01:11.000 Or she would have an instruction in one of her books And says, dust the furniture. 1.00

00:01:16.000 And so she would go and she would find dust, dusting powder in the bathroom, and then she would dust it all over the furniture.

00:01:21.000 Or she is told to draw the drapes.

00:01:24.000 So she sits down and she actually draws drapes on a sketch pad.

00:01:27.000 Right?

00:01:27.000 That is Amelia Bedelia.

00:01:28.000 Where the media play this game lately. 0.97

00:01:30.000 And it's an absurd, ridiculous, insane game. 0.72

00:01:33.000 Where somebody on the right tells a joke, does a satire headline. 0.87

00:01:37.000 And the media take it extremely seriously, very seriously.

00:01:40.000 Very, very seriously.

00:01:42.000 Because they are going to fact-check and bring you the truth.

00:01:44.000 Now, no matter that everybody knew it was a joke.

00:01:46.000 No matter everybody in the world knew that it was a joke, or that it was satire.

00:01:49.000 Instead, the media are going to treat this as though this must be fact-checked.

00:01:53.000 So, you end up with absurdities like Snopes fact-checking the Babylon Bee.

00:01:57.000 Which is an out-and-out satire site, which claims to be a satire site.

00:02:00.000 It's the equivalent of Snopes fact-checking the Onion.

00:02:03.000 It's a Babylon Bee happens to be right-wing and Christian in orientation. 0.92

00:02:06.000 And the media are like, oh, well, you know, that's not a big deal.

00:02:09.000 Of course they should fact check.

00:02:10.000 People could have taken that seriously.

00:02:12.000 People could have taken that seriously.

00:02:13.000 When the Babylon Bee said to draw the drapes, we sat down and we drew an actual picture of the drapes.

00:02:19.000 Or you would get Allie Stuckey, my friend from the Blaze TV.

00:02:23.000 And Allie would do one of the fake interviews with, like, AOC.

00:02:27.000 The same exact sort of interview that people on Comedy Central do all the time, where they cut themselves into interviews with people who they would never get to book on their show.

00:02:35.000 And Allie would say things, and AOC would look ridiculous, and it was obviously satire.

00:02:39.000 It was obviously meant to make fun of AOC and the fact that AOC knows nothing about policy.

00:02:43.000 And the media fact-checked Allie Stuckey.

00:02:45.000 This was not a satire video.

00:02:46.000 It was a fake news video.

00:02:48.000 It was a doctored video.

00:02:49.000 Doctored.

00:02:50.000 And fake.

00:02:51.000 And bad. 1.00

00:02:53.000 Okay, well, the latest iteration of this stupidity comes courtesy of none other than our wonderful social media team over at The Daily Wire. 0.99

00:03:01.000 So, first of all, shout out to our social media team at The Daily Wire. 0.99

00:03:04.000 They are just incredible.

00:03:06.000 Their meme game is spot on.

00:03:08.000 They're really, really good at what they do.

00:03:10.000 So, all this week, Americans have been celebrating the heroism of a dog whose name has now been declassified as Conan, which is just the best.

00:03:18.000 So this dog, Conan, is a very, very good doggie.

00:03:20.000 This is the best doggie.

00:03:21.000 The best doggie I have ever heard of.

00:03:22.000 This doggie went into a cave after al-Baghdadi.

00:03:27.000 Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the head of ISIS, and was ready to take down Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and scared Baghdadi so much that he promptly blew himself up, just incinerated himself. 1.00

00:03:36.000 Unfortunately, he took children with him because he was an evil piece of murderous terrorist scum. 0.97

00:03:40.000 Okay, but Conan was in the cave, and Conan was slightly wounded, and now Conan is back in service. 0.99

00:03:45.000 And so everybody was celebrating the heroism of this dog.

00:03:47.000 Because that's pretty awesome, right?

00:03:49.000 I mean, this is the best dog ever.

00:03:50.000 It's a great dog!

00:03:51.000 I mean, this is the doggy you ask, what is best in life?

00:03:53.000 And the dog replies, to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of your women, and also, biscuits.

00:03:59.000 Kibble is great, also, if you have some of that.

00:04:02.000 So, this is a great doggy.

00:04:03.000 Okay?

00:04:04.000 And, as you know, if you've been listening to my show at all, I am not a huge dog fan.

00:04:09.000 I'm growing warmer toward dogs over time.

00:04:11.000 My children are twisting me into a fan of dogs.

00:04:14.000 But I will say that Conan is really making me want a dog.

00:04:17.000 I said as soon as Conan was wounded that if Conan needed an owner, I would be happy to become a dog person and adopt Conan because this is the best doggie.

00:04:24.000 Okay, so the Daily Wire social media team, who listen to the show and then very often create memes that are kind of drawn from the general themes of the show, they put out A meme.

00:04:34.000 And the meme was a picture of President Trump awarding the Medal of Pawner to the dog.

00:04:41.000 Right?

00:04:41.000 And so they took a picture of President Trump awarding a Medal of Honor to an American hero named James McLaughlin, who is credited with saving the lives of 10 men in a battle in Vietnam.

00:04:52.000 And this photo had nothing to do with McLaughlin.

00:04:54.000 Okay?

00:04:55.000 Like, McLaughlin.

00:04:56.000 The last thing that the Daily Wire would ever think of doing is deriding an actual war hero.

00:05:01.000 Of course.

00:05:02.000 And nobody actually thinks that's what the Dailyware social media team was doing.

00:05:02.000 Of course, of course.

00:05:06.000 Are they really suggesting that this was meant to dishonor the person who's at the center of the photo?

00:05:10.000 No.

00:05:10.000 The Dailyware social media team took this photo and they just put in the dog.

00:05:14.000 Right?

00:05:14.000 They obviously photoshopped in the dog.

00:05:17.000 So it's President Trump putting, not the Medal of Honor, it's a medal that has a picture of a paw print on it.

00:05:23.000 On the dog.

00:05:24.000 Obviously, obviously photoshopped.

00:05:26.000 It has our watermark in the bottom right hand corner of the picture.

00:05:29.000 Okay, nobody's trying to hide the ball here.

00:05:32.000 This is just a cute little tribute to a very good doggie.

00:05:34.000 That's all.

00:05:35.000 It's a joke and a cute little tribute to a very good doggie.

00:05:38.000 And so President Trump sees this and he thinks it's cute.

00:05:40.000 Because, you know, Trump... This is one of the charming things about Trump.

00:05:43.000 There are many things that are not charming about Trump.

00:05:45.000 One of the wonderful, charming things about Trump is that when the man sees something that he enjoys, he sort of just puts it out there.

00:05:50.000 So, he put out our picture with the watermark in the right-hand corner of himself giving the Medal of Honor to the dog.

00:05:56.000 And I point out, again, that it's obviously photoshopped.

00:06:00.000 That, obviously, he did not give a Medal of Honor to a dog.

00:06:03.000 There's no such thing as a Medal of Honor.

00:06:05.000 The actual medal is not the Medal of Honor.

00:06:08.000 Look at that photo, if you're subscribing.

00:06:11.000 You can see, or if you're watching this live, you can see.

00:06:13.000 It is a picture of a paw print.

00:06:15.000 Okay, so President Trump then tweets out, American hero, American hero.

00:06:18.000 Now, this should be the end of the story, right?

00:06:19.000 It's just kind of like a cute, funny little tweet.

00:06:21.000 But no, our intrepid media are on the case.

00:06:25.000 They are on the case.

00:06:27.000 So, the Washington Post, and the New York Times, and USA Today, and pretty much everybody else, covers this as though it's actual news, and as though it's a scandal.

00:06:36.000 Not just that President Trump tweeted out a meme, but that it's a real scandal.

00:06:40.000 Here is the headline from the intrepid reporters at the New York Times.

00:06:43.000 They put two of their finest on it, Neeraj Chokshi and Karen Schraig.

00:06:46.000 Okay, their headline is, Trump Tweets Faked Photo of Hero Dog Getting a Medal.

00:06:52.000 Faked photo?

00:06:53.000 Faked pho- Like, was anyone- Like, a faked photo would be something where there was any pretense at realism. 0.85

00:07:01.000 Any pretense at trying to fake out the audience.

00:07:04.000 Fake photos sort of assumes that we are attempting to fake you into believing something.

00:07:08.000 This is just called a funny meme.

00:07:10.000 Like, do you not- Do you not even meme, bro?

00:07:13.000 Like, this is the most obvious joke and tribute ever.

00:07:17.000 Ever!

00:07:17.000 Okay, the New York Times reports it this way.

00:07:20.000 President Trump on Wednesday shared an altered photograph of himself placing a medal around the neck of the dog injured in the raid last weekend that led to the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the Islamic State's leader.

00:07:31.000 Wow, an altered photograph.

00:07:32.000 Ooh, it's fake news.

00:07:34.000 It's bad information.

00:07:35.000 President Trump trying to cede the ground that he likes a dog that was involved in the killing of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

00:07:41.000 Wow, wow.

00:07:42.000 I mean, what a get.

00:07:43.000 What a get, guys.

00:07:44.000 Well done, New York Times.

00:07:45.000 That is some extensively amazing journalisming.

00:07:48.000 Just unbelievable journalisming.

00:07:50.000 He tweeted out a photo of himself giving a fake medal to a doggie, to a very good doggie. 1.00

00:07:58.000 This is your big story, you idiots? 0.99

00:08:01.000 Okay, then they continue along this- the image, which bears a watermark for a social media account for the conservative news site The Daily Wire, appeared to be an altered version of a 2017 Associated Press photograph. 0.99

00:08:11.000 In the original, Mr. Trump is seen awarding a Medal of Honor to James McLaughlin, a retired Army medic who is credited with saving the lives of 10 men during the war in Vietnam.

00:08:20.000 And then they quote President Trump talking about how wonderful the dog is.

00:08:23.000 And then they talk about McLaughlin and suggest that Trump is trying to deride the veteran who was simply in that photo, right?

00:08:30.000 I mean, it was not, again, no one.

00:08:32.000 Trump, Daily Warrior, no one is trying to dishonor the person who won the Medal of Honor.

00:08:36.000 That's insane. 1.00

00:08:37.000 For you to believe that you have to be such a wretched tool bag of a human being. 0.99

00:08:41.000 Like, of course that's not what anyone was trying to do. 0.97

00:08:44.000 But the media tried to twist this into This is, like, McLaughlin knows this!

00:08:48.000 Right?

00:08:48.000 McLaughlin was called up by the New York Times.

00:08:50.000 In a phone interview on Wednesday, McLaughlin, 73, who had not seen the image before a reporter sent it to him, said that he interpreted it as Mr. Trump recognizing the dog's heroism.

00:08:58.000 He certainly was not offended, and laughed when he compared the two images.

00:09:01.000 Of course! 1.00

00:09:02.000 Because McLaughlin is a normal human being, you stupid tools! 1.00

00:09:05.000 Of course! 1.00

00:09:06.000 Like, what the hell is wrong with you people? 0.98

00:09:08.000 What is wrong with you? 0.97

00:09:09.000 Because McLa- Like, to be offended by that, you'd have to be... 0.98

00:09:13.000 You have to be wrong in the head.

00:09:14.000 You have to be wrong in the head to be offended by all of this.

00:09:18.000 And McLaughlin said, after all, Medal of Honor recipients accept on behalf of their entire teams, especially those that did not return from battle, and canines have long been part of war efforts.

00:09:26.000 He said this recognizes the dog as part of that team of brave people.

00:09:30.000 McLaughlin said he had worked with a dog in Vietnam who helped detect enemy activity during missions.

00:09:34.000 They are very courageous, he said, of military canines.

00:09:37.000 Like, come on.

00:09:40.000 Come on.

00:09:41.000 Okay, so that was the New York Times coverage, but it gets even better.

00:09:43.000 Wait until you hear the Washington Post coverage, which is even worse.

00:09:46.000 And again, this is a story that the media treated as a national story.

00:09:50.000 They treat it as an actual national story that Donald Trump tweeted out a meme of himself awarding a hero dog.

00:09:56.000 They treat it as a national story.

00:09:59.000 The story gets better, guys.

00:10:00.000 It gets so much better.

00:11:22.000 Stamps.com.

00:11:23.000 Never go to the post office again.

00:11:25.000 Okay, so the story gets even better.

00:11:27.000 Okay, the story gets even better.

00:11:30.000 The story from Alex Horton, reporter at the Washington Post.

00:11:33.000 Okay, so first note, Alex Horton apparently is an Iraq War veteran.

00:11:37.000 Nothing but respect for his military service.

00:11:38.000 Also, this is insanely bad reporting.

00:11:41.000 Okay, so two things can be true at once.

00:11:42.000 Alex Horton can be an American patriot who served honorably in Iraq. 0.96

00:11:46.000 Also, he can be an unbelievably crappy reporter. 0.87

00:11:49.000 So, here is his report from the Washington Post. 0.96

00:11:52.000 The headline says, Trump tweeted a photo of a Medal of Honor recipient who was edited out and replaced by a dog.

00:12:00.000 By a dog!

00:12:01.000 Oh no!

00:12:04.000 Then it says, In a somber White House ceremony in July 2017, President Trump draped the Medal of Honor around the neck of James McLaughlin.

00:12:11.000 He was credited with saving the lives of 10 men in a brutal, days-long battle in Vietnam, and Trump told the former Army medic that, On Wednesday, Trump posted a photo of that moment with McLaughlin's image replaced by that of a dog.

00:12:24.000 The distinctive star of the medal was replaced with a paw print.

00:12:27.000 Trump and the Pentagon declined to release the dog's name, but the canine has since become a social media sensation after Trump tweeted a photo of the dog on Monday.

00:12:35.000 Since then, the dog has been a feature of countless memes.

00:12:37.000 It also collided with a real-world moment after the conservative site Daily Wire tweeted the image Tuesday with McLaughlin removed.

00:12:43.000 A watermark for the site appears in Trump's tweet, but it is a cropped version that removes the attribution of the source photo, which is the Associated Press.

00:12:50.000 That's because the source photo has now been dramatically altered. 0.99

00:12:52.000 The source photo did not include a dog or a medal of pawnery, you idiots. 0.99

00:12:56.000 It's called a meme. 1.00

00:12:57.000 This is how memes work on the interwebs.

00:13:00.000 That would have indicated it began as a legitimate news photo, raising the question of whether Trump or a staffer knew McLaughlin had been edited out.

00:13:08.000 Okay, so I'm pretty fairly certain that Trump knew he had not actually awarded the Medal of Honor to a dog.

00:13:13.000 I'm fairly certain that Trump knew this.

00:13:15.000 Now, even if you thought that Trump may have forgotten that he awarded the Medal of Honor to a dog, I feel like he would have known that it wasn't real once he looked and saw a Medal of Pawner.

00:13:23.000 It's a paw on the medal! 0.98

00:13:25.000 You dolts! 0.85

00:13:26.000 Okay, here's where the story gets great. 0.86

00:13:28.000 Okay, and then, it says a White House spokesman declined to comment.

00:13:32.000 McLaughlin, 73, could not be reached for comment.

00:13:34.000 Well, actually, he could by the New York Times.

00:13:35.000 He just didn't respond to you.

00:13:36.000 And then, this is the best part.

00:13:38.000 Jeremy Boring, the Chief Operating Officer at the Daily Wire, dismissed emailed questions about whether the altered photo originated from his publication.

00:13:46.000 Okay, this is the part that's totally insane.

00:13:48.000 So, Jeremy, who is my longtime business partner and Chief Operating Officer at Daily Wire, Founder, co-founder of Daily Wire.

00:13:55.000 He, listen to that sentence again.

00:13:56.000 Dismissed emailed questions about whether the altered photo originated from his publication.

00:14:00.000 Okay, first of all, number one.

00:14:02.000 Our watermark's on it.

00:14:03.000 It's like right there, in Trump's original tweet.

00:14:06.000 But, that, the way that's reported sounds like boring dismissed question.

00:14:10.000 Like he wouldn't, we refused, we at the Daily Wire, we were so scared of the question, we refused to answer the question as to whether the altered photo originated from our publication.

00:14:20.000 We just refused.

00:14:22.000 Because this is a scoop, guys.

00:14:23.000 It's a scoop.

00:14:24.000 Okay, well, here's how the actual exchange went.

00:14:26.000 Alex Fortin emailed our social media team.

00:14:28.000 He said, hello, I'm with the Washington Post, and I wanted to get confirmation this photo originated with you.

00:14:32.000 And if you digitally removed Medal of Honor recipient James McLaughlin and replaced him with a dog.

00:14:37.000 OK, and Jeremy responded the way that any normal human being would respond. - Yeah.

00:14:45.000 It's a pretty epic response.

00:14:47.000 He wrote back, Alex, on the record, you've got to be effing joking.

00:14:51.000 Please quote me on that.

00:14:53.000 Thanks, Jeremy.

00:14:54.000 We jokingly called Jeremy the God King, but he definitely was great there.

00:15:03.000 That's spectacular stuff from Jeremy.

00:15:05.000 You've got to be effing joking, please quote me.

00:15:07.000 By the way, I didn't see this until like hours later, because I'm over here in Israel, and this is just the best.

00:15:11.000 You've got to be effing joking, because correct!

00:15:13.000 You've got to be effing joking.

00:15:14.000 You're fact-checking whether a photo of a dog being awarded the Medal of Ponder is real.

00:15:21.000 You're expending reporter dollars on this stuff.

00:15:25.000 What?

00:15:26.000 What? 1.00

00:15:26.000 And then it was reported by the Washington Post as, Jeremy dismissed emailed questions about whether, no, he didn't dismiss emailed questions, he dismissed your stupid question. 1.00

00:15:36.000 He dismissed you. 0.99

00:15:37.000 He didn't dismiss the question, he dismissed you.

00:15:39.000 He said you've gotta be, like there's no way to read that as Jeremy saying, you know, we have no comment.

00:15:44.000 We issue no comments all the time here at The Daily Wire.

00:15:48.000 It's a thing that everybody does in the media.

00:15:49.000 That happens.

00:15:50.000 If we wanted to no comment, you know what we could have done?

00:15:52.000 No comment.

00:15:53.000 Instead, Jeremy explicitly said, please quote me.

00:15:56.000 You have to be... Please quote me.

00:16:02.000 You have to be effing joking.

00:16:04.000 Correct!

00:16:04.000 Correct.

00:16:05.000 But I'll get to the deeper thematic here, because there actually is something deeper and kind of disturbing here in this story.

00:16:11.000 It's embedded in a very funny story, but there is something.

00:16:15.000 That is well worth discussing.

00:16:17.000 I'm gonna get to that in just one second.

00:16:19.000 But first, you know, you walk into your home sometimes and you're like, I replaced the furniture, repainted the walls, but something still looks dingy about this place.

00:16:25.000 Well, probably it's because you haven't thought about the window coverings.

00:16:27.000 Who thinks about window coverings on a routine basis?

00:16:29.000 But, good blinds are to a home what a sharp tie is to a suit.

00:16:32.000 It brings everything together.

00:16:34.000 Going blind shopping is not something that I dream about doing.

00:16:37.000 I'm like, oh man, I'm gonna get up today, I'm gonna go blind shopping.

00:16:40.000 But, If you go to blinds.com, you can make it really fast and really easy, which is why I enjoy using blinds.com.

00:17:32.000 Okay, so president, so all of this becomes an issue.

00:17:38.000 By the way, I also tweeted back at the, so I tweeted out all of this, right?

00:17:43.000 I tweeted out this entire exchange.

00:17:46.000 And then I added, And then I added, I said, so Washington Post asked my business partner, Jeremy Boring, about our Medal of Honor dog meme.

00:17:52.000 His glorious response is screen capped below.

00:17:54.000 Their report then suggested Jeremy refused to answer questions about the picture. 0.94

00:17:58.000 Um, no, we think you're being effing insane.

00:18:00.000 And then I added, yes, we created the meme.

00:18:06.000 Yes, it is a joke.

00:18:07.000 Yes, you people are also jokes.

00:18:09.000 Please feel free to quote both me and Jeremy on this, because, of course, of course.

00:18:13.000 Okay, so, then President Trump takes it to the next level, which is just, this is best Trump.

00:18:18.000 I love it.

00:18:19.000 This is best Trump.

00:18:20.000 So, President Trump then tweets out, thank you Daily Wire, very cute recreation, but the live version of Conan will be leaving the Middle East for the White House sometime next week.

00:18:28.000 Which is great!

00:18:30.000 It's a very good doggie!

00:18:32.000 How do you somehow end up on the wrong side of the very good doggie debate?

00:18:35.000 It's a very good doggie! 1.00

00:18:36.000 Why are you upset about things that are paying tribute to a very good doggie, you stupid tools? 1.00

00:18:41.000 Why? 1.00

00:18:42.000 How?

00:18:43.000 And all of these people acting as though Photoshop is a new thing.

00:18:46.000 Oh my god, have you seen?

00:18:48.000 It's a faked, altered photo.

00:18:49.000 It's not a deepfake, okay?

00:18:51.000 It's not like a deepfake of some matinee idol. 0.70

00:18:55.000 Having sex with somebody, for pornographic purposes, is not a deepfake of Barack Obama saying a thing he didn't say.

00:19:01.000 It's not even an altered video attempting to skew things in any way. 0.57

00:19:06.000 It is literally just a meme.

00:19:07.000 And somehow the media ended up on the wrong side of this.

00:19:10.000 One person online was tweeting out photos that were photoshopped.

00:19:15.000 They're very funny.

00:19:16.000 Of President Trump.

00:19:17.000 Remember there's that photo of President Trump on the White House lawn, like yelling at a kid who's mowing the lawn.

00:19:21.000 So he tweeted out a photo of President Trump yelling at the dog, saying, are you photoshopped?

00:19:26.000 Like that's, that's what this is. 1.00

00:19:28.000 It's so unbelievably stupid. 1.00

00:19:30.000 And I'm looking forward to the media fact-checking all jokes, actually. 1.00

00:19:33.000 Like, I can't wait for it.

00:19:34.000 Like, we definitely need the media to fact-check knock-knock jokes.

00:19:37.000 Like, were you aware that when someone tells you a knock-knock joke, they're not actually standing outside your house knocking on the door?

00:19:43.000 Were you aware?

00:19:44.000 Fact check.

00:19:45.000 Fact check.

00:19:46.000 Were you aware that chickens lack the requisite intent to even know really why they're crossing the road?

00:19:51.000 So all of those, why did the chicken cross the road jokes?

00:19:53.000 They're irrelevant.

00:19:53.000 Because the chicken doesn't know why it's crossing the road.

00:19:55.000 It doesn't have the requisite intent.

00:19:56.000 Media fact check!

00:19:58.000 And what the hell is wrong with you people?

00:20:00.000 So I tweeted back at President Trump, no thank you, Mr. President, and say hello to a very good doggie for us. 0.99

00:20:05.000 Because everyone has lost their mind. 1.00

00:20:08.000 They've lost their damn mind. 1.00

00:20:09.000 But there is a deeper point here. 1.00

00:20:11.000 Okay, and the deeper point here is that what the media are doing and they keep doing this, is they are broadening the scope of what they now consider, quote unquote, disinformation.

00:20:19.000 Anything that they don't like, any joke, any meme, any piece of funny satire, they now take seriously, like Amelia Bedelia, specifically so that they can then label the outlet that promotes that content as somehow dealing in misinformation and lies, right?

00:20:36.000 This is their thing.

00:20:38.000 As I say, they did it to the Babylon Bee, they've done it to Ali Stuckey over at Blaze TV, and now they're doing it with regard to an obvious meme with a dog receiving the Medal of Pawner.

00:20:47.000 This is what they are doing.

00:20:49.000 And this has real-world ramifications because what the left is doing is they're making a very simple argument that has very large real-world ramifications. 0.99

00:20:56.000 This is just kind of the outlying stupid case point.

00:20:58.000 Okay, but What the left is attempting to do is they're attempting to say that disinformation has so radically skewed the way that the American public views information that the government needs to step in and stop people from exercising the First Amendment. 0.95

00:21:11.000 We had an article like this by Richard Spangler over a former Time Magazine editor and Obama Administration State Department official.

00:21:20.000 We had an article like that from him in the Washington Post just two days ago.

00:21:24.000 Right?

00:21:25.000 That happened just a couple of days ago.

00:21:27.000 And now you have the media pressuring Facebook and Twitter to shut down free dissemination of speech in the name of shutting down disinformation.

00:21:35.000 So what they do is they keep broadening the definition of disinformation to encompass anything they don't like.

00:21:39.000 So you have an article in the Washington Post by Charlie Warzel claiming that Breitbart should not be included in Facebook's news feed.

00:21:46.000 Yes, CNN.

00:21:47.000 Yes, Huffington Post.

00:21:49.000 No, Breitbart.

00:21:50.000 Why?

00:21:50.000 Because that's misinformation or disinformation.

00:21:52.000 How do we know that?

00:21:53.000 Well, I mean, you can check.

00:21:54.000 Snopes Facts checks them all the time.

00:21:55.000 And it doesn't matter that Snopes also fact-checks selectively only right-wing outlets, and half the time the Snopes fact-checks are wrong.

00:22:02.000 That doesn't matter.

00:22:02.000 The idea is to create a narrative, and the narrative is that if you see content from a right-wing outlet, that it should be shut down and is not a legitimate exercise of the First Amendment.

00:22:10.000 And so you're seeing members of the media I'm old enough to remember when there was a very famous case called New York Times vs. Sullivan.

00:22:16.000 And it was all about the rights of the media to print material.

00:22:19.000 It was all about slander and libel and the standards for printing material publicly.

00:22:23.000 And the New York Times was on the right side of that fight.

00:22:25.000 It was about broadening the First Amendment.

00:22:27.000 Members of the media used to be very much in favor of broadening the First Amendment.

00:22:31.000 Of recognizing a joke for a joke.

00:22:33.000 Of trying to actually suss out facts rather than create fake controversies of the day for click-baity anti-Trump material.

00:22:41.000 Right?

00:22:41.000 That was like What, five minutes ago?

00:22:44.000 Ten minutes ago, when this was supposedly their top priority?

00:22:48.000 Now they've shifted.

00:22:49.000 Now they've shifted.

00:22:50.000 And so what you see is this vast push by the left to go after right-wing outlets and say that they are, in fact, fake news, who should be banned because they are disseminating misinformation, or to go after Donald Trump's political campaign and say that Trump's political campaign should not be allowed to post ads because if they post ads, the ads might contain information that the left finds to be false or twisted.

00:23:10.000 Because it's called the campaign ad, right?

00:23:13.000 But they don't want that?

00:23:15.000 Or you'll see them say, well, thanks to Russian interference in the 2016 election, we need to use government to crack down on big tech and prevent the dissemination of information.

00:23:22.000 Understand, there's only one type of information that the left truly cares about preventing dissemination of, and that's anything that opposes their agenda.

00:23:30.000 Because we're all on the same page when it comes to the Russians disseminating misinformation.

00:23:34.000 Nobody wants that.

00:23:35.000 I don't want that.

00:23:36.000 You don't want that.

00:23:37.000 Facebook doesn't want that.

00:23:38.000 Twitter doesn't want that.

00:23:39.000 Nobody wants that.

00:23:40.000 But that's not the real agenda.

00:23:41.000 The real agenda is shut down all the speech I don't like.

00:23:44.000 Shut down the quote-unquote hate speech I don't like.

00:23:47.000 Shut down the political speech that I feel like is misinformation.

00:23:50.000 Sure, it may be factually correct, but it's couched the wrong way.

00:23:55.000 I'll get to the real world example of this happening over at the New York Times.

00:23:59.000 Again, used to be the bastion of free speech, but not anymore.

00:24:02.000 We'll get to that in just one second.

00:24:05.000 First, let's talk about communication.

00:24:07.000 Communication in marriage is extremely important, but in certain topics it's kind of challenging.

00:24:11.000 One of those topics is sex.

00:24:13.000 Well, if you are suffering from erectile dysfunction, you know, the fact is that you may feel the necessity to keep that kind of secret.

00:24:19.000 It's kind of embarrassing, but you need to get it solved.

00:24:21.000 So what do you do?

00:25:05.000 Go check them out at GetRoman.com slash Ben.

00:25:07.000 GetRoman.com.

00:25:09.000 Okay, so what are the real-world ramifications of all this?

00:25:13.000 It's the call by members of the media to shut down dissemination of political information on social media websites.

00:25:19.000 It's the call by members of the media and some members of the Obama administration to actually curb the First Amendment and rewrite it. 0.94

00:25:26.000 And the way, again, that they broaden this out is to go after even stupid examples of quote-unquote fake news, like a meme of the president tweeting out himself giving a fake medal to a dog. 0.90

00:25:38.000 You just keep broadening this thing out. 0.97

00:25:40.000 That's the goal here.

00:25:41.000 And so here's where you end up.

00:25:44.000 Yesterday, Twitter said it would ban all political ads.

00:25:47.000 Ban all of them.

00:25:49.000 Outright.

00:25:50.000 Now the left is celebrating.

00:25:51.000 Why?

00:25:52.000 The left is celebrating because they know that they own the means of distribution that are not the main social media platforms.

00:25:57.000 Meaning that if you want to get any sort of non-left news, the best places to get that online are places that used to be sort of an online public forum.

00:26:05.000 Right?

00:26:05.000 Places like Twitter, or places like Facebook, or places like YouTube.

00:26:08.000 And so what the left really wants, they're happy with banning all political ads.

00:26:11.000 They'll say, oh, this isn't politically motivated.

00:26:13.000 They're banning all political ads and we're happy about it.

00:26:16.000 No.

00:26:16.000 You just know that the political ads are then going to be distributed and disseminated in the form of the New York Times, or CBS, or CNN, or all of the other outlets that you guys have.

00:26:26.000 The internet has radically decentralized the methods for disseminating information.

00:26:31.000 Radically decentralized it.

00:26:33.000 The internet has made it possible for you to access information in a way you wouldn't before.

00:26:36.000 You get to watch this show.

00:26:36.000 Right?

00:26:38.000 You get to see this show.

00:26:39.000 You get to read our stuff at Daily Wire.

00:26:41.000 You can follow us on Facebook.

00:26:42.000 You can follow me on Twitter.

00:26:44.000 The goal of the left would be, okay, you know what?

00:26:46.000 If we have to ban, like, all political speech on these platforms and force people to not engage in political speech, we can live with that.

00:26:51.000 Because if we go back to the old system, we were dominant under the old system.

00:26:55.000 Which is true.

00:26:56.000 The left media were dominant under the old system.

00:26:58.000 The New York Times would love nothing better, nothing better, than to shut down the dissemination of information in places like Facebook and Twitter and YouTube.

00:27:05.000 They would love nothing better than that.

00:27:06.000 Why?

00:27:06.000 Because they have legacy media branding.

00:27:09.000 People still know who the New York Times is.

00:27:11.000 It's a barrier to entry to get rid of the social media methods of distribution of information.

00:27:15.000 And the New York Times knows that.

00:27:17.000 They don't want competition.

00:27:18.000 They want to be the only game in town.

00:27:20.000 And the way you ensure you're the only game in town is you basically make it very difficult for people to disseminate information through publicly available fora.

00:27:27.000 So, Twitter went along with the game because Twitter is a horrible outlet run by a guy who is on the very far left and has no principles about free speech, as in none, Jack Dorsey apparently.

00:27:36.000 So Twitter said on Wednesday it would ban all political ads, putting a spotlight on the power and veracity of online advertising and ramping up pressure on Facebook's chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, to reverse his hands-off stance.

00:27:47.000 Yeah, well, Jack Dorsey's probably also willing to kowtow to the Chinese when it comes to censoring Twitter, so he ain't exactly a free speech warrior.

00:27:54.000 Dorsey said political ads, including manipulated videos and the viral spread of misleading information, presented challenges to civic discourse, all at increasing velocity, sophistication, and overwhelming scale.

00:28:05.000 He said he worried the ads had, quote, significant ramifications that today's democratic infrastructure may not be prepared to handle.

00:28:11.000 He added he believed the reach of political messages should be earned, not bought.

00:28:15.000 Okay, now this is his way of saying, I'm not a real capitalist.

00:28:18.000 Really, Jack, give up your stock.

00:28:20.000 Really, like, the idea here is that... I prize civility over money.

00:28:26.000 Shut down your website, man, because let me tell you, Twitter's a cesspool.

00:28:30.000 Anytime you feel like giving up that stock, it is all you.

00:28:32.000 Make the magic happen.

00:28:34.000 But the fact is that Jack Dorsey has no intent of doing any of that.

00:28:37.000 This is virtue signaling to the left.

00:28:39.000 And not only is it virtue signaling to the left, it is an attempt to appease a left that wishes to see speech narrowed rather than broadened.

00:28:48.000 I've seen many political ads for Democrats on Twitter.

00:28:51.000 I think a lot of them are steeped in false information.

00:28:54.000 Do I think that Twitter should stop running those ads?

00:28:56.000 No.

00:28:56.000 I think that it's my job to critique those ads.

00:28:58.000 I think there's millions and millions of people on Twitter who can then discuss whether the ads are true or false.

00:29:05.000 And just promoting an ad on Twitter, just like any other political campaign, preventing that is insane.

00:29:10.000 By the way, it's sort of the equivalent of what the left commonly does when we talk about campaign finance reform.

00:29:15.000 So when we talk about campaign finance reform, they're like, Look at these big, bad, terrible donors.

00:29:19.000 They're so big, and they're so bad, and they're so terrible.

00:29:22.000 Also, you know who we should allow to have more power?

00:29:24.000 The unions.

00:29:25.000 Right?

00:29:25.000 The unions should have more power, and media should have more power.

00:29:28.000 So, I shouldn't be able, with my friends, to form a super PAC to put out political advertising information.

00:29:33.000 I shouldn't be able to spend my own money to disseminate information.

00:29:36.000 Or, for example, buy an ad in the New York Times with my super PAC.

00:29:39.000 But, the New York Times should be able to run whatever it wants on its front page over and over and over, and also unions should probably be able to do that.

00:29:45.000 All animals are equal except for the pigs.

00:29:47.000 This is the way that the left wishes to treat discourse in the United States.

00:29:51.000 So of course they're very happy with Twitter shutting this down because they understand that Twitter is never going to shut down leftist political messaging on Twitter.

00:29:57.000 Twitter will ban people for saying that a man is not a woman.

00:30:02.000 But Twitter will never ban somebody for saying the opposite.

00:30:05.000 Twitter will ban political advertising knowing full well that Twitter also tends to promote leftist causes and leftist politicians.

00:30:11.000 So of course the left is happy about this.

00:30:13.000 But the media is setting this up as a clash of principle.

00:30:15.000 You know what?

00:30:15.000 It is a clash of principle.

00:30:16.000 It turns out that some of these outlets want more speech and some of these outlets want less speech.

00:30:20.000 And it's kind of amazing for Twitter, a supposed free speech outlet, to be curbing political ads in the name of, we're going to fact check it now.

00:30:27.000 Who died and appointed you, the great arbiters of truth, over at Twitter?

00:30:32.000 You guys are a joke when it comes to arbiting truth over at Twitter.

00:30:35.000 I mean, I can't even count the number of false headlines that Twitter has run in its trends over the last nine months about me personally.

00:30:42.000 So no, you guys aren't the arbiters of truth.

00:30:43.000 You're just a bunch of leftists who are motivated to push a particular point of view.

00:30:49.000 And the New York Times is super happy about this.

00:30:51.000 And they say Twitter's announcement that it would eliminate political ads starting November 22nd prompted immediate attacks from the right.

00:30:57.000 Brad Parscale, Mr. Trump's campaign manager for the 2020 election, said Twitter's decision was a partisan act intended to silence conservatives.

00:31:03.000 And of course, that is true.

00:31:05.000 Democrats, of course, praised Twitter.

00:31:07.000 AOC, who is happy to disseminate as much information as humanly possible via her well-followed account, praised Twitter and said if a company cannot or does not wish to run basic fact-checking on paid political advertising, they should not run paid political ads at all.

00:31:21.000 How about this?

00:31:21.000 How about we run basic fact-checking on your tweets, and then if they don't meet basic fact-checking notions, then you get banned from Twitter.

00:31:27.000 How about that? 0.98

00:31:27.000 How about we stop your crap tweets that very often are steeped in absolute falsehood? 0.98

00:31:32.000 How about that? 0.98

00:31:33.000 But it seems to me that all those are still up.

00:31:34.000 Your buddy Ilhan Omar put out an absolutely false tweet about a kid dying who isn't dead the other day.

00:31:39.000 And then she just put like a little addendum. 1.00

00:31:41.000 That thing's still up.

00:31:43.000 It's amazing how so many members of the left are sanguine with the inability of people to disseminate information.

00:31:48.000 Why?

00:31:48.000 Because they know that they always will be able to.

00:31:51.000 They say that they... Even Biden's campaign is saying this is ridiculous, right? 0.93

00:31:55.000 Bill Russo, a spokesman for Joe Biden's campaign, said it was unfortunate to suggest the only way to deal with false claims in political ads was not to run the ads at all, but he added it was encouraging that for once revenue did not win out.

00:32:05.000 Ah, so the anti-capitalism outweighed the free speech principle.

00:32:08.000 So they were all good with the free speech, you can disseminate what you want, until it turned out that you were paying to put stuff on Twitter.

00:32:14.000 Oh, wow, because as we all know, people on Twitter, they don't earn any money for being on Twitter.

00:32:19.000 And they don't spend hours being paid to be on Twitter.

00:32:21.000 Which, by the way, is what every major media figure does.

00:32:24.000 Why do you think AOC's on Twitter?

00:32:25.000 Because it's good for her brand.

00:32:28.000 This is all a concerted attempt to shut down the ability to disseminate information by broadening out the fact-checking abilities of the media into areas that are completely false.

00:32:41.000 It's gaming the system, in other words.

00:32:43.000 And the left is fond of doing it, and now they're trying to leverage it against Facebook. 0.95

00:32:46.000 And as I say, you get complete anti-free speech fools like Kara Swisher writing pieces on this today at the New York Times. 0.95

00:32:53.000 Your move, Facebook, is what Kara Swisher writes. 0.95

00:32:55.000 By the way, the other day she suggested she would like to head up the appeals board over at Facebook so she could determine what stuff to kick off.

00:33:00.000 This is the same Kara Swisher.

00:33:01.000 When a conversation with Susan Wojcicki suggested that she would love nothing better, she said, I can't, I understand you can't really do it, but I would love nothing better than to see Ben Shapiro booted from YouTube because my son watches his videos.

00:33:12.000 I definitely trust her with free speech.

00:33:14.000 I've never suggested that Kara Swisher should lose her job or be booted off social media or be restricted in any way from disseminating her content. 0.91

00:33:21.000 But this lady is the greatest and wisest among us who is going to dictate how you get your information. 0.99

00:33:27.000 So it starts off with like these simple, stupid, fringe stories about the media going nuts over a doggy photo, but that's not really what this is about. 0.99

00:33:34.000 What this is really about is exaggerating the threat of misinformation, assuming that you are a moron who is incapable of assessing your own sources of information, and then saying, well, you know what? 1.00

00:33:43.000 I understand. 1.00

00:33:44.000 You're dumb. 1.00

00:33:45.000 You didn't get that that dog photo wasn't real. 1.00

00:33:47.000 You didn't get it because you're dumb. 1.00

00:33:48.000 So here's what I'm going to do. 1.00

00:33:49.000 I'm going to stop all that information from even hitting your eyeballs.

00:33:53.000 Instead, you'll see the stuff that I think is true.

00:33:56.000 Normally, we would call this censorship.

00:33:58.000 On the left, this is called freedom of speech because language has been completely inverted.

00:34:01.000 Okay, we'll get to more of this in just one second.

00:34:03.000 First, let's talk about your sleep quality.

00:34:06.000 So, I am abroad right now, and that means I am desperately missing my Helix Sleep mattress.

00:34:10.000 I'm sleeping on a mattress.

00:34:11.000 It ain't great.

00:34:11.000 My sleep quality has not been fantastic, but Helix Sleep, when I get back, I am lying on that Helix Sleep mattress after that 16-hour flight, and I am just going to doze.

00:34:21.000 It's going to be fantastic.

00:34:22.000 Why?

00:34:22.000 Well, Helix Sleep personalizes a mattress for you, right?

00:34:25.000 We live in a personalizing of product time, and Helix Sleep is at the very forefront of this.

00:34:29.000 Helix Sleep has a quiz.

00:34:53.000 You get to try it out for 100 nights risk-free.

00:34:55.000 They'll even pick it up for you if you don't love it, but you definitely will.

00:34:58.000 Check out helixsleep.com slash Ben for up to $125 off your mattress order.

00:35:01.000 Again, helixsleep.com slash Ben and get $125 off.

00:35:05.000 They've got a 10-year warranty, by the way, so again, and you get to try it out for 100 nights risk-free.

00:35:10.000 You really have nothing to lose.

00:35:11.000 Check them out, helixsleep.com slash Ben.

00:35:13.000 Okay, we have much more on this topic, plus the extent to which censorship is being taken by the left.

00:35:19.000 I mean, this is a scary time for the First Amendment.

00:35:22.000 And for free speech attitudes in general.

00:35:24.000 Forget about government censorship.

00:35:25.000 For free speech attitudes, it's a very dangerous time in the country.

00:35:28.000 We'll get to more of that in just one second.

00:35:29.000 First, head on over to DailyWire.com.

00:35:31.000 As I've been saying this entire show, the left wants to use these social media platforms to shut down information that you want and that you need.

00:35:39.000 And this is why you should go subscribe over at DailyWire.

00:35:41.000 There are too many people on the left who would like to de-platform Daily Wire, who would like to de-platform me, who would like to de-platform our other hosts.

00:35:47.000 This is their goal in life.

00:35:48.000 They spend every waking moment trying to figure out how they can go after our advertisers, how they can convince social media outlets to dump us.

00:35:56.000 This is their thing.

00:35:57.000 The way that you fight back against that, I get all sorts of letters.

00:35:59.000 How do I fight back against left?

00:36:00.000 Honestly, it sounds self-serving, and in a way it is, but the fact is we are bringing you information that you want.

00:36:04.000 Obviously, that's why you're listening to the show.

00:36:06.000 Go subscribe over at dailywire.com.

00:36:08.000 $9.99 a month or $99 a year brings you this.

00:36:10.000 The very greatest in beverage vessels, the leftist here is hot or cold tumbler.

00:36:13.000 I also want to remind you that the Daily Wire's app is finally here, and it is fantastic.

00:36:17.000 I mean, it's really great.

00:36:35.000 Plus, if you subscribe, you also get our fantastic Sunday special on Saturday.

00:36:39.000 This week's Sunday special features Peter Robinson, This is a pet peeve of mine.

00:36:43.000 We're not allowed to say that our side won the Cold War.

00:36:46.000 It just ended.

00:36:47.000 Well, let me point out one thing.

00:36:49.000 The United States is still here and the Soviet Union went defunct.

00:36:52.000 of mine, we're not allowed to say that our side won the Cold War.

00:36:57.000 It just ended.

00:36:58.000 Well, let me point out one thing.

00:37:00.000 The United States is still here and the Soviet Union went defunct.

00:37:04.000 We won.

00:37:05.000 It's really first rate stuff.

00:37:07.000 I I think you're gonna love it.

00:37:08.000 Check it out this Saturday if you're a subscriber, or Sunday if you are not.

00:37:12.000 Also, go check us out over at dailywire.com.

00:37:16.000 Please subscribe.

00:37:16.000 We really appreciate it.

00:37:17.000 We are the largest, fastest growing conservative podcast and radio show in the nation.

00:37:20.000 So Woke's golden chief and censor Kara Swisher has a piece entirely about this today called Your Move, Facebook.

00:37:31.000 Twitter will no longer allow political advertising, a move that places Twitter and Jack Dorsey in stark contrast to Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg.

00:37:38.000 That's one small step by Jack, one giant leap for tweet kind.

00:37:42.000 It's not as significant as a man conquering space.

00:37:44.000 Yeah, see, A Man Conquering Space was about achieving something. 0.97

00:37:46.000 This is about shutting down political speech.

00:37:48.000 So, yeah, those aren't the same, it turns out.

00:37:50.000 But Twitter's chief executive, Jack Dorsey, moonwalked into the digital future on Wednesday with a move that was both unexpected and inevitable.

00:37:57.000 In a Twitter thread, of course, he declared that the company would no longer allow political advertising on Twitter globally.

00:38:02.000 Why not just extend it?

00:38:03.000 Why not just say no political speech on Twitter globally?

00:38:06.000 Because you know the next step.

00:38:07.000 It's going to be that powerful people in the media, on the right, are, quote-unquote, disseminating false information.

00:38:12.000 They need to be kicked off Twitter.

00:38:13.000 That is the next step.

00:38:14.000 It starts with the paid political stuff because, after all, they can rip Twitter for being corporate-driven and profit-driven.

00:38:21.000 But it's not going to stop there.

00:38:22.000 Tara Swisher has made clear over and over she doesn't want it to stop there.

00:38:26.000 To those hoping that Mr. Dorsey would also take action against one of the platform's most famous rules violators, let's make one thing clear.

00:38:32.000 Donald Trump can still huff and puff away on his disingenuous digital sousaphone, but his campaign cannot pay to do so.

00:38:38.000 Still, it was a bold- See, she wants Trump kicked off Twitter.

00:38:40.000 I mean, she's not even hiding the ball here.

00:38:42.000 She says, still, it was a bold and epic poke that seemed to aim directly at Mark Zuckerberg since Twitter's announcement came just as Facebook was dropping its current earnings report.

00:38:51.000 While Facebook's earnings were spectacular, especially in comparison to Twitter's weaker showing a week ago, the announcement now places Twitter and Dorsey in stark contrast to the social networking giant and its co-founder and CEO.

00:39:02.000 Why?

00:39:03.000 Well, Mr. Zuckerberg said in a disastrous series of recent appearances in Washington, D.C., his huge platform would not only keep accepting political ads, but also would allow politicians to lie in them.

00:39:12.000 Well, what Zuckerberg said is, it's your job to fact check, and it's my job not to shut down speech.

00:39:17.000 Which is called freedom.

00:39:19.000 Coincidence?

00:39:20.000 Actually, it feels like the best subtweet ever.

00:39:22.000 It is yet another example, like last year's widespread deplatforming of conspiracy troll Alex Jones, of social media not only starting to clean itself up, but beginning to understand the major responsibility it has to the well-being of society at large, well beyond just making money. 0.96

00:39:35.000 Oh, bullcrap. 0.71

00:39:36.000 Here's what happened. 0.98

00:39:37.000 Hillary Clinton lost in 2016.

00:39:39.000 You guys were pissed. 1.00

00:39:39.000 You blamed Russian trolls and quote-unquote disinformation instead of yourselves for running a crap candidate. 1.00

00:39:43.000 You're very angry that Donald Trump is president and now you're going to take it out on all of the outlets and ask them and then demand that they and then push them to de-platform everybody you don't like. 0.98

00:39:54.000 Your response to losing an election is that you don't like the principles that underlie American elections on a fundamental basis.

00:39:59.000 That is what is going on here.

00:40:00.000 You have a similar article from Thomas Friedman in the New York Times called Trump Zuckerberg and pals are breaking America.

00:40:05.000 Now, what does Trump have to do with Zuckerberg?

00:40:07.000 They apparently don't even like each other.

00:40:08.000 So, what exactly do they have to do with each other?

00:40:11.000 Apparently, Zuckerberg is a problem.

00:40:13.000 Why?

00:40:13.000 Because he's allowing political ads to run on Facebook.

00:40:16.000 You know, because dissemination of information is good.

00:40:18.000 More information is better.

00:40:20.000 More debate is better.

00:40:22.000 But Friedman says, this is all about money for Zuckerberg, as opposed to Thomas Friedman, who gives all of his salary to charity, who works for the New York Times for free, and just runs around the globe writing bestselling books on his own dime.

00:40:34.000 I mean, what a giver he is.

00:40:36.000 Profit, profit, oh, terrible profit.

00:40:38.000 Or alternatively, Mark Zuckerberg has given up an awful lot of profit by not actually allowing his service to be available in China just so he would not have to bow to the Chinese censors.

00:40:48.000 I have not heard the same about Twitter.

00:40:51.000 So, there it is.

00:40:52.000 I mean, it's just, it's absurd.

00:40:54.000 It's absurd.

00:40:56.000 Friedman says, yeah, right, as if average American citizens are able to discern the veracity of every political ad after years of being conditioned by responsible journalism to assume the claims aren't just made up.

00:41:07.000 What does that even mean?

00:41:09.000 Basically, you believe that people can't make decisions on their own about the veracity of information. 1.00

00:41:13.000 They're all idiots and morons, unlike Thomas Friedman, who's been taken in by regimes including the Iranians and the Chinese, and who wrote a column several years ago suggesting that one-party democracy in China may be more effective than two-party democracy in the United States. 0.99

00:41:25.000 Thomas Friedman should definitely determine what sort of information you can see. 1.00

00:41:30.000 This is the stuff that's scary.

00:41:32.000 And then they use Russia as the front.

00:41:34.000 All these conversations always start with Russian disinformation.

00:41:37.000 Again, we all agree.

00:41:39.000 Russian disinformation?

00:41:40.000 Bad.

00:41:40.000 Foreign countries interfering in American elections?

00:41:43.000 Agree?

00:41:43.000 Bad.

00:41:44.000 Agree.

00:41:45.000 But that's not where it ends.

00:41:46.000 It doesn't start with, you know what, we really need to find these sort of Russian bot accounts and shut them down because that's interference by a foreign government.

00:41:53.000 It turns very quickly into, we need to stop Trump from running ads.

00:41:53.000 We shouldn't allow that?

00:41:57.000 And then it turns very quickly into, Trump should be banned from the platform.

00:42:00.000 And then it turns into, everybody that you hear from on the right should be banned from these platforms.

00:42:04.000 We need to de-platform everyone.

00:42:06.000 These platforms, in fact, should just become outlets for the left.

00:42:08.000 And that's what the left would like.

00:42:10.000 That's what the left would like.

00:42:11.000 This all springs from the same attitude that says that anything that you don't like is dangerous to you, right?

00:42:16.000 That any information that you disagree with is, in effect, Russian disinformation.

00:42:21.000 That any information that you don't like is in effect incitement.

00:42:23.000 We saw that article, as I mentioned again, yesterday from Richard Stengel, that former Obama administration official, who said we should pursue hate speech laws in the United States, the home of the First Amendment, because, hey, people might get offended. 0.99

00:42:34.000 And this is how you end up with the stupidity over at Stanford. 0.97

00:42:36.000 So next week, I'm supposed to speak at Stanford University? 1.00

00:42:40.000 I'm very much looking forward to it.

00:42:42.000 It's always fun.

00:42:43.000 I like hearing questions from people who disagree.

00:42:44.000 We have a basic rule at all of my speeches.

00:42:47.000 It's been true for years. 0.97

00:42:48.000 If you disagree, you raise your hand, you go to the front of the line, and then we have a discussion about it.

00:42:52.000 And so these are open, free speech events.

00:42:56.000 And all of the posters are being vandalized by people on the left.

00:43:00.000 And hours after postering in the Nordelpha dorm, the Conservative Club's members, according to Young America's foundation, found their posters removed, with a note from RAs being put in place, quote, We, the Nordelpha staff, care about you and your feelings, your physical and emotional health.

00:43:13.000 This is in response to the fact that the lecture is titled, Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings.

00:43:18.000 We, the Nordelpha staff, care about you, your feelings, your physical and emotional health.

00:43:22.000 This is after taking down the poster for the event.

00:43:24.000 This isn't in response.

00:43:25.000 It's not next to the poster for the event.

00:43:26.000 It's they took down the poster for the event and then they replaced it with a note saying that they care about your feelings.

00:43:34.000 Right, so I can't think of a better metaphor than that.

00:43:36.000 Taking down the poster that says facts don't care about your feelings and replacing it with a note that says we care about your feelings and we do so so much that we are going to remove material you don't like.

00:43:45.000 I say you matter and are welcome here in this space.

00:43:47.000 We welcome and center the voices that some may wish to specifically marginalize and target and that we support black people, people of color, non-binary folks.

00:43:55.000 LGBTQIA folks, Muslims and Jews, people from diverse backgrounds learning and flourishing together is what makes Stanford and Nordelphia special.

00:44:03.000 Thank you for being you.

00:44:04.000 You are a star and don't let anyone tell you you're not.

00:44:08.000 Please reach out to any of us if you need to talk or need us to support you in any way.

00:44:11.000 With love, your Nordelphia staff. 0.98

00:44:14.000 Creating a generation of losers. 0.99

00:44:16.000 This is how you create a generation of losers. 0.99

00:44:18.000 You say to them, you know what? 0.91

00:44:19.000 We're not even going to allow you to see a poster that doesn't even have any political material on it.

00:44:23.000 It just says that facts are more important than feelings.

00:44:25.000 We're going to replace that with a poster that says, you are a star, lest you be offended in some way.

00:44:31.000 The conservative group apparently also attempted the, yeah, chapter over at Stanford, also attempted to enter Stanford's Hispanic-focused dorm, Casa Zapata, where they were met with a mob of screaming leftists who hurled expletives at the chapter members.

00:44:42.000 The unhinged leftists blocked the students from entering the dorm and followed them to the next dorm where they intended to poster, encouraging the staff in that building not to let them inside either.

00:44:51.000 Stephen Sills is president of the conservative group on campus and said, Homophobia!

00:44:55.000 Homophobia.

00:45:07.000 Wow.

00:45:08.000 Apparently you don't care about the feelings there, do you?

00:45:10.000 Sills described that after leaving and heading over to another dorm to poster, they'd been followed by a group of eight students.

00:45:16.000 Quote, they shouted obscenities, heckling us and keeping us from entering the other dorms.

00:45:20.000 Never before have I ever feared as much for my safety on campus as I did then.

00:45:24.000 The conservative students were then accused of targeting at Casa Zapata, despite the fact that they went to a bevy of different dorms.

00:45:29.000 Angry leftists discussed potential disciplinary action against the group at a meeting with Stanford's provost, Persis Drell.

00:45:37.000 The conservative group plastered nearly every dorm with posters to advertise for them. 1.00

00:45:40.000 By the way, I'm a libertarian, you idiot! 1.00

00:45:43.000 I've been in favor of broadened legal immigration for Hispanics for years. 1.00

00:45:47.000 For years!

00:45:48.000 I'm in favor of work permits.

00:45:49.000 What the hell are you even talking about?

00:45:51.000 What are you talking about? 0.97

00:45:52.000 I mean, this is just, it's just absurd.

00:45:56.000 I'm sorry, it's absurd.

00:45:58.000 And by the way, the tickets sold out in like five seconds, of course, because people actually still care about free speech in America, although the left is doing its best to shut it down.

00:46:05.000 But it's not just the left in the United States, it's also the left in Canada.

00:46:08.000 Megan Murphy, who was kicked off of Twitter for the great sin of pointing out that a man is not in fact a woman, she held a lecture in Canada, and this drove the mayor of the town of Toronto, To rip on the library that allowed her to speak.

00:46:21.000 The anti-free speech movement on the left, internationally, is strong and growing much, much stronger.

00:46:27.000 And it's happening day in and day out because the left doesn't like the results of free speech.

00:46:30.000 Because they don't like the results.

00:46:31.000 I have not called for the deplatforming of anyone on the left.

00:46:34.000 And listen!

00:46:36.000 I have significant suspicions that 2020 may not in fact be a great year for Republicans, right?

00:46:40.000 The polls right now show Republicans not doing well in the White House, in the House, in the Senate, right?

00:46:44.000 All of that may be true.

00:46:45.000 I have never called for anybody on the left to be platformed for expressing a political viewpoint, even when I think they're twisting the truth.

00:46:50.000 Even when I think they're twisting the truth, because it's my job to then re-inform you as to what they are saying wrong.

00:46:55.000 And it's their job to fact-check me, right?

00:46:57.000 This is everybody's job.

00:46:59.000 But the goal here is to create this... It's so funny.

00:47:03.000 What the left will say is that they're trying to just suss out the misinformation.

00:47:06.000 We have to target it.

00:47:08.000 We have to destroy the misinformation.

00:47:10.000 But they're not doing that.

00:47:11.000 Instead, they're carpet bombing the informational distribution centers and saying...

00:47:16.000 True, false, doesn't matter.

00:47:17.000 You can't distinguish.

00:47:19.000 To save this village, we need to burn it.

00:47:20.000 We need to burn this free speech village in order to save free speech.

00:47:24.000 This is their goal.

00:47:25.000 This is why you end up with people tearing down posters at dorms.

00:47:28.000 This is why you end up with the Toronto mayor, John Tory, who is now calling on libraries to cancel events.

00:47:33.000 From Megan Murphy, a feminist, who says that it's bad for women if men who say they are women are allowed to go into women's dressing places and locker rooms. 1.00

00:47:42.000 All of this is designed to shut down dissent, to shut down debate.

00:47:48.000 By the way, I'm just going to juxtapose really fast the activity of Toronto's mayor with activities that took place in Minnesota last night that apparently have received no actual governmental talk about censorship despite the fact that they basically amount to child abuse.

00:48:01.000 So this library in Toronto allowed Megan Murphy to speak.

00:48:04.000 About the fact that men are not women. 0.88

00:48:06.000 Contrast that to a story from Ann Taylor writing at Caffeinated Thoughts who attended an October 17th event at Hennepin Country Library in Minnesota.

00:48:15.000 A taxpayer-funded event.

00:48:16.000 A drag queen story hour.

00:48:18.000 This has become a thing in some major left-leaning cities. 0.97

00:48:21.000 Apparently, a drag queen showed up wearing nude-colored underwear and proceeded to expose his crotch to the children. 0.97

00:48:28.000 Quote, We're talking a sleeveless cut-off t-shirt resembling SpongeBob SquarePants with midriff exposed, a pink mini skirt, rainbow ankle socks, a black spiked heels that went above six inches.

00:48:37.000 The wig he wore, the drag queen, was mermaid-style crimping in the color of bright orange and the makeup that was far too much under the neon lights. 1.00

00:48:44.000 The drag queen, quote, strode in suggestively past the children, sitting down in a chair before several preschool-aged girls, with his legs spread wide, exposing his nylon-covered crotch in front of children sitting at eye level. 0.99

00:48:55.000 We noticed he did this often while reading nervously before the children.

00:48:59.000 Taylor says, I initially thought drag queen story hours were a hoax and simply unfathomable until I experienced one myself. 1.00

00:49:06.000 Apparently there are about 22 kids ranging in age from infant, toddler, and preschool into elementary grades.

00:49:12.000 The library is set to host another Drag Queen Story Hour on November 2nd.

00:49:16.000 Now listen, I think that libraries should be allowed to host these things. 0.99

00:49:20.000 I think parents are morons for having their kids there. 0.99

00:49:22.000 I think that parents are doing an act of deep disservice to their own children by exposing them to sexualized performances at a young age. 1.00

00:49:28.000 I think that's child abuse.

00:49:30.000 I think that if the library has found a way to desexualize a Drag Queen Story Hour, which I don't see any way to do that, but if you find a way to do that, free speech, more power to you.

00:49:39.000 But, the fact that the left wants to shut down Megan Murphy for saying men are not women, but celebrates Drag Queen Story Hour, and then condemns anyone who condemns Drag Queen Story Hour, tells you everything you need to know about the censorious left.

00:49:52.000 The Hennepin County Library told The Blaze the program is relatively new and it is unfortunately making mistakes.

00:49:57.000 Oh, unfortunately making mistakes.

00:50:00.000 Most storytime performances involve a performer in brilliantly colored costume and theatrical makeup.

00:50:05.000 They read books and share songs about characters who are different in some way and who learn to accept and celebrate differences in themselves and others.

00:50:11.000 Now again, I think that there are plenty of ways that you could do that.

00:50:13.000 You could dress up as a dog and do that, right?

00:50:15.000 But instead you're dressing up as what is inevitably and inherently a sexualized performance piece when it comes to drag.

00:50:21.000 Drag is inherently sexualized. 1.00

00:50:23.000 I have yet to hear a great argument that drag is not inherently sexualized. 1.00

00:50:25.000 I mean...

00:50:27.000 It just, like, explain the argument to me.

00:50:29.000 Really, I'm waiting to hear it.

00:50:31.000 But in any case, they said partway through this year's schedule, we realized the need for a performer dress code.

00:50:36.000 We followed up right away with each of the performers to ensure that their costumes are appropriate for the audience and activity.

00:50:41.000 Now, listen, I think that people have the prerogative not to get involved in this drag queen story.

00:50:48.000 In fact, I think that they shouldn't.

00:50:49.000 I think that parents should not take their kids to it.

00:50:51.000 I think the constituency for this thing should be zero.

00:50:54.000 But I'm not calling for censors to shut down drag queens. 0.99

00:50:58.000 I think that if it's child abuse, if it's sexualized, then again, that's a criminal violation.

00:51:01.000 That's a different thing.

00:51:02.000 But the fact that libraries all over America and in Canada are really pushing Drag Queen Story Hour, but mayors of Toronto are coming out and saying, well, you know, we can't have somebody saying a man is not a woman.

00:51:13.000 That tells you everything you need to know about the censorious left. 0.92

00:51:16.000 They're extending this to the social media sphere.

00:51:18.000 The goal, once more, shut down the dissemination of information.

00:51:21.000 That is what they want.

00:51:22.000 Because when the dissemination of information is equal, it gives a better shot to people who are not in the monopolistic left.

00:51:28.000 And the left did have a monopoly on information up until the last 20 years or so.

00:51:32.000 My friend and mentor Andrew Breitbart used to say that the internet was the greatest leveling force in the history of media, which is of course why mainstream media wants to bring all of that back in, reign all of that back in.

00:51:43.000 It starts with dumb things like fact-checking dogs being given medals by the president, and that's not where it ends.

00:51:49.000 Okay, so it's time for a quick thing that I like, and then we'll do a quick thing that I hate. 0.59

00:51:56.000 So, quick thing that I like.

00:51:57.000 This is kind of some fascinating polling.

00:51:59.000 So there is some new polling out that shows that President Trump is actually running extremely competitively with the Democrats in this race right now, but with a huge percentage of Americans saying they don't know.

00:52:12.000 According to Morning Consult, former VP Joe Biden only leads Trump 41 to 36.

00:52:17.000 Basically, Trump is always between 35 and 37% in all of these polls, but A lot of the Democrats have now dropped below him in these polls because people are not sure about these Democrats.

00:52:27.000 They're too radical and they're promoting an agenda that nobody likes.

00:52:30.000 Bernie Sanders is only up 39-37, which is margin of error.

00:52:33.000 Elizabeth Warren is actually down 36-35.

00:52:34.000 Kamala Harris is down 36-31.

00:52:39.000 Buttigieg is down 35 to 29.

00:52:40.000 Now, again, that's a huge percentage of the population that says they don't know, but that gives Trump time to redefine himself and to define the left, which is obviously what he should be doing today.

00:52:50.000 He should be spending all of his time doing exactly that.

00:52:53.000 Okay, time for a quick thing that I hate.

00:52:58.000 All righty, so big, big story today.

00:53:01.000 Out of Paul Sperry at Real Clear Investigations, he apparently has uncovered the identity of the whistleblower who triggered this whole Trump-Ukraine thing.

00:53:11.000 Apparently he has identified the person who's behind all of this.

00:53:15.000 Now, let it be said up front, the content of the whistleblower report is in and of itself troubling enough that people should ask questions.

00:53:23.000 So it doesn't discredit the actual questions being asked, Who made the report?

00:53:27.000 But does this appear like initially an act of partisanship as opposed to an act of good faith?

00:53:33.000 Given the identity of the whistleblower, the answer is pretty obviously yes.

00:53:37.000 So according to Paul Sperry, the name of the government official fitting the description that has been given is Eric Shiramella.

00:53:43.000 And I'm gonna say his name because I don't think that the whistleblower requires anonymity.

00:53:46.000 I think that we should know what we need to know about the people who initiated the investigation.

00:53:50.000 I don't think anonymity under these circumstances is appropriate.

00:53:52.000 The name of the government official fitting the description, Eric Schiramella, has been raised privately in impeachment depositions according to officials with direct knowledge of the proceedings.

00:53:59.000 Presumably, this is Republicans leaking, which is bad, but Democrats have been leaking too, so everybody's leaking, right?

00:54:05.000 As well as in at least one open hearing held by a House committee not involved in the impeachment inquiry.

00:54:10.000 Fearing their anonymous witness could be exposed, Democrats this week blocked Republicans from asking more questions about him and intend to redact his name from all deposition transcripts.

00:54:17.000 RealClear Investigations is disclosing the name because of the public's interest in learning details of an effort to remove a sitting president from office.

00:54:25.000 Further, the official's status as a whistleblower is complicated by his being a hearsay reporter of accusations against the president, one who has some indicia of an arguable political bias in favor of a rival political candidate.

00:54:35.000 That's the inspector community, the intelligence community inspector general, who said this originally.

00:54:40.000 So, what do we know about this guy?

00:54:42.000 He's 33.

00:54:42.000 He's a registered Democrat, held over from the Obama White House.

00:54:45.000 He previously worked with both VP Joe Biden and former CIA Director John Brennan.

00:54:49.000 He's a vocal critic of Trump.

00:54:52.000 Further, he left his National Security Council posting in the White House's West Wing in mid-2017 because people were concerned that he was leaking to the media.

00:54:59.000 He was then returned to the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia.

00:55:03.000 A former NSC official said he was accused of working against Trump and leaking against Trump.

00:55:07.000 Apparently, Shiromela huddled for guidance with the staff of House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, including former colleagues also held over from the Obama era whom Schiff had recently recruited from the NSC.

00:55:19.000 And apparently, Sharmilla also worked with a DNC operative who dug up dirt on Trump during the 2016 election, inviting her into the White House for meetings, according to former White House colleagues.

00:55:28.000 That operative, Alexandra Chalupa, is Ukrainian-American who supported Hillary and led an effort to link the Republican campaign to the Russian government. 0.93

00:55:34.000 He knows her.

00:55:35.000 He had her in the White House, said one former co-worker, who requested anonymity to discuss the sensitive matter.

00:55:40.000 Documents confirm that she actually attended at least one White House meeting with Sharmilla in November of 2015.

00:55:47.000 So, this has been, you know, this is obviously deeply troubling because it does go to motive, right?

00:55:54.000 It looks like basically a person who hated Trump, who was waiting for the opportunity to jump on the bandwagon of a problem and then blow it up to epic proportions.

00:56:03.000 This wasn't somebody who was like, well, everything's going fine here and, you know, I'm gonna wait for a legit crime in order to make a fuss.

00:56:09.000 Instead, it was somebody who apparently was colluding with Adam Schiff in order to Come up with this entire whistleblower allegation.

00:56:17.000 It was somebody who was an ardent Joe Biden defender, which is why he found this so inappropriate.

00:56:22.000 Now, does this answer all the questions about impeachment?

00:56:23.000 Of course not.

00:56:24.000 Of course not.

00:56:25.000 It doesn't answer the questions about whether Trump's activity on that call was appropriate, whether Trump was in fact leveraging American taxpayer dollars to specifically go after a 2020 political rival without evidence and without any concern for corruption.

00:56:38.000 It doesn't answer those questions and Trump will have to answer those questions, but it's certainly going to lend a lot of credence to Trump's allegation that this entire thing from the beginning was cooked up by a Democrat and somebody inside the quote-unquote deep state who's seeking to selectively leak information to harm Trump.

00:56:52.000 Because apparently that's what this guy did according to Paul Sperry reporting for Real Clear Investigation.

00:56:57.000 So we'll bring you more on that this afternoon, I am sure, when we get to our two additional hours of content.
