00:00:22.000He pulled up, pulled off an upset in the June primary.
00:00:24.000He bested President Trump's pick, conservative representative Randy Feenstra, and then he was endorsed by President Trump.
00:00:32.000Well, now Lon is running very heavily on MAHA.
00:00:38.000Actually, both candidates are running very heavily on moving against the use of chemicals and pesticides in Iowa.
00:00:46.000As Politico says, Democratic candidate Rob Sand has already raised more money than any gubernatorial candidate in state history.
00:00:52.000He's making water pollution a central part of his campaign, running on the slogan Cost, Corruption, and Cancer.
00:00:57.000He's trying to cut into the sort of RFK Republican MAHA base.
00:01:02.000As Politico says, it's impossible to ignore the presence of farm chemicals in Iowa.
00:01:06.000More than 83% of the state's land is used for farm operations, with 77% of farmlands growing corn or soybeans, according to 2025 Agriculture Department data.
00:01:18.000Well, Lon would like to sue a couple of the big companies that are generating enormous amounts of soybeans because, again, what he is saying is that they are using practices that actually damage people with the, with the chemicals they're using.
00:01:34.000He wants to incentivize more farmers to adopt regenerative practices that reduce reliance on pesticides as he's done on his own farm.
00:01:41.000The farm lobby is still sort of figuring out how to respond because again, it is a lot cheaper to use these chemicals, but Iowa does have extraordinary rates of cancer, like some of the highest in the nation.
00:01:50.000And so a lot of people have drawn a correlation between the use of chemical pesticides in places like Iowa and the, and the cancer rates in Iowa.
00:01:58.000Republicans in the Iowa legislature have become quite maha.
00:02:02.000It revived the presidential fitness test to ban certain food dyes and school lunches and it eased access To COVID 19 treatments, controversial ones, apparently.
00:02:11.000So, again, the race is sort of fascinating over in Iowa.
00:02:14.000Right now, Sand is leading Lon pretty heavily, but again, Sand is saying many of the same things about chemicals that Lon is saying.
00:02:21.000Lon is a political outsider, he's a farmer himself.
00:02:24.000Sand is attacking him, saying he's a carpetbagger.
00:02:29.000He splits his time between Kansas and has a blended family and criticizes Sand for crossing ethical lines and attacking his kids.
00:02:36.000Meanwhile, Sand served as Iowa's state auditor.
00:02:45.000And there's some pretty dicey things that he did as state auditor.
00:02:48.000By 2024, the Iowa Supreme Court, for example, ruled that Sands' office failed to catch a long running accounting issue and they misallocated like $25 million.
00:02:55.000His platform includes legalization of marijuana, universal all day pre K, and reversing privatization of Medicaid.
00:03:04.000And he did not deny that he is going to raise taxes on Iowans.
00:03:07.000But bottom line is that Maha is making some pretty extraordinary inroads, obviously, in Iowa.
00:03:14.000This also, by the way, is true in the Senate race.
00:03:16.000Both candidates, Josh Turek and Ashley Hinson, have sort of embraced some Maha platform elements.
00:03:24.000It is obvious that Iowans are, in fact, thinking about their health this election season.

00:03:40.000By the way, speaking of Iowa, there was a very weird thing that happened in Iowa the other day.
00:05:02.000So first of all, why are they allowing the invocation to be satanic?
00:05:06.000Can I just point out the founders would have been appalled by this?0.98
00:05:08.000All these people who are misinterpreting the First Amendment to mean that the founders were neutral about, you know, Satan, they're just crazy.0.99
00:05:15.000First of all, the First Amendment does not apply at the state level.
00:05:18.000Second of all, even if the First Amendment were applied at the state level, that does not mean that the government is neutral between Satan worship and religion.
00:05:30.000At the time of the founding, if you openly profess Satan worship, not only was it not protected by the First Amendment, in most of the original colonies, conduct understood as devil worship would have been punishable by law.
00:05:41.000Pretty much all of the original colonies had laws against blasphemy, idolatry, witchcraft, heresy, or offenses against God.
00:06:50.000I'm sorry, but it's time to move forward.
00:06:51.000So, as mayor of the city of Tumblr, as mayor of the city of Tumblr, the one rolling this, running the meeting, I'm going to ask right now that we do a moment of silence to reflect on whatever it is we need to reflect on at this time.
00:07:05.000And then we will move to the consent agenda.
00:07:07.000So, with that, we'll go into a moment of silence.
